E2 Gowanda HS Library: We use our allocation of Smart Schools funds for the 26-27 school year. We're required to present our plan. Every year, we, fund the same expenditures. We support our, one-to-one initiative for iPads, Chromebooks, chargers, cases, and then the interactive flat panel. E2 Gowanda HS Library: For our classroom use, so we've been able to stretch those dollars quite far, which I can take absolutely zero credit for. That is all, while previously Doug Pine and now Matt Quadruple, and then their work with Barb in getting, the very best prices, and stretching the money, so… E2 Gowanda HS Library: We, were awarded a total allocation initially of $1.5 million, and so each year, we've continued to use those funds, like I said, for those various expenditures, and so each slide here talks about how much

we've spent each year. E2 Gowanda HS Library: And so, if it's okay with the group, I'm going to jump right ahead to our… 2627 plan. E2 Gowanda HS Library: We actually only need to purchase Chromebooks for the coming year, and that will be a refresh for our students in grades 1, 5, and 9, so students entering those grades will receive new devices. E2 Gowanda HS Library: We need to purchase approximately, 260, and then in addition, we'll get Chromebook cases to go along with those for students. E2 Gowanda HS Library: And then we will be doing a kindergarten refresh. Our pre-K and kindergarten students use iPads. It's just a little bit easier for the little hands than the Chromebooks. So we'll be buying 100 iPads, which includes the care that goes along with it from Apple,

Apple support, and the cases with it. E2 Gowanda HS Library: So… Next year, our, proposed expenditures, $106,764. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Right now, at the end of this year, when everything closes out, we have 365,576 remaining, and so after E2 Gowanda HS Library: the expenditures that we're planning for, for the following school year, we will still have $258,000 remaining, so we should still be able to get a couple of years out of this grant, which is great for the budget. E2 Gowanda HS Library: So, as in previous years. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Comments are open until the next board meeting on July 8th. If there are any particular questions, comments, or suggestions related to how we spend Smart Schools, there is an email address here that our technology team receives those messages from. Just put

Smart Schools Investment Plan on the subject. We'll make sure that we read those and respond accordingly. E2 Gowanda HS Library: And then, hopefully at the next meeting, the plan will be approved. We'll submit it to State Ed, and they're generally pretty quick. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Like I said, we have not changed our expenditure since we started with the grant years ago, so we generally get approval pretty quickly. We've been fortunate to stretch that money. I know a lot of other districts have already gone through there, so we're lucky that we've been able to budget appropriately. And again, that's the tech coordinators, Matt and Doug, and then with Barb's assistance. E2 Gowanda HS Library: We've been able to shop pretty. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Pretty good. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Questions about that? E2 Gowanda

HS Library: Oh my gosh, your last one! For smart schools, anyway! E2 Gowanda HS Library: Okay, Al, will you try to process back and forth? E2 Gowanda HS Library: 2017, the district was basically expanding a one-to-one. E2 Gowanda HS Library: concept here. Recently, It sounds like… The education field is top-paying. E2 Gowanda HS Library: decreasing screen time. I don't know how that… E2 Gowanda HS Library: I actually agree with NYSET wholeheartedly on that, with our primary students. It won't change how we budget accordingly. We will still maintain the devices. E2 Gowanda HS Library: I would say already the recommendations are for pre-K to 2 to reduce screen time. I would say already that our teachers are pretty good with limiting screen time for students and still doing so much of that hands-on, direct support with

kids. The devices are primarily used for, like, our diagnostic assessments when we're testing students throughout the year and progress monitoring. E2 Gowanda HS Library: So… E2 Gowanda HS Library: I support that. Right now, our students at the elementary level up through 4th grade, they don't take their devices home, they stayed in school, they're on carts. So I would say that we'll still have them available to students. E2 Gowanda HS Library: If they're not using them as much, the life of the device, that would be great if it was extended even longer, just with less use, so that might be able to stretch our dollars even further, which would be great. But I think a lot of us do agree with that, especially at the primary level. We try to reduce the tech usage as much

as possible. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Good question. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Are there a lot of, E2 Gowanda HS Library: warranty items for all the, like, Apple devices. I know you said you buy the AppleCare and the sporting things. There are a lot of instances of E2 Gowanda HS Library: You haven't utilized that warranty. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Not generally. I mean, I would say that the tech team's pretty good about being able to replace things or fix things. We fix a lot of our devices in-house. I mean, occasionally, you know, a liquid spill or a damaged device in little hands, but… E2 Gowanda HS Library: We haven't had to generally use it. And they'll help us with app support, you know, if something were to happen, we can call, but generally the team is

able to do things themselves, and then BOCES assists also. E2 Gowanda HS Library: But we have to purchase them. E2 Gowanda HS Library: fortunately, so… Any other questions? E2 Gowanda HS Library: Okay, great. E2 Gowanda HS Library: I can just close this one out, Kathy, is that okay? Yes, please. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Yep. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Mitch, the doctor is next to what's open. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Is, your presentation. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Top. Down here? No, up at the top, the very top. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Top, top. Top the screen. Next one. Left. Left. There you go. There you go. Personally challenged here. District-wide safety plan. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Yes, we're here today to talk about the 2627, district-wide safety plan. E2 Gowanda HS Library: So, what is it,

the district-wide safety plan? It's a, the plan provides a framework for, our building level. The building level has all the… all the policies in it, all the procedures that we use. What this, what the district-wide does is give us the framework for that. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Some of the highlights that are in it, the drills that we do each year are talked about in there. We do the, aid evacuation. Those are… E2 Gowanda HS Library: Those are our fire drills. That's considered an evacuation drill, because we do leave the school. And then the four lockdowns that we do. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Section 5, lists the prevention and intervention strategies, so it lists the security measures and the procedures that we use. Some of those would be of our badges that let us in

the building so that we can keep everything locked. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Everyone can get in with these badges, and can get in only where they, where they're given access to. E2 Gowanda HS Library: cameras, we use Raptor system that, whenever a visitor comes in, they have to get their license, and we scan that license, E2 Gowanda HS Library: And it gives them a badge so that they… everyone knows that that person is allowed in. And it lists the security policies. Not that they're not written in there, but it gives you a list of what policies we do have. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Appendix A is a list of emergency phone numbers, so anyone who has access to that, it gives the county EMS, law enforcement, utility companies. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Mental health services,

FBI, and the American Red Cross, so they're easily accessed if we did have something that was going on, and we needed to call those people in. E2 Gowanda HS Library: There's also, prevention intervention programs for each building. The elementary, middle, and high school are all listed on pages 8, 9, and 10. It's what they… the programs that they use specifically in those buildings. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Listed on page 12 are security measures that are, E2 Gowanda HS Library: district currently has in place, and those, again, would be the badges and cameras and other things, keeping the doors locked. Also, at the end of that is the continuation of operations plan for a public health emergency that came about because of COVID. E2 Gowanda HS Library: It doesn't necessarily… when we first did it, it

stated COVID in there. It's taken out now, but it's a general policy that we would use if we ever did get in that situation again. E2 Gowanda HS Library: And sort of talked about this, but while linked to the district-wide safety plan, the building-level safety plan shall be confidential and shall not be subject to disclosure under Article 6 of the Public Officer's Law or any other provision of the law in accordance with New York State Education Law. E2 Gowanda HS Library: I do know of at least one school around here that has their complete plan, online, and you can… if you go to their website, it's there. I don't… E2 Gowanda HS Library: We don't have to, and I don't believe it should be. We should be the ones that know the procedures. The public

can know, you know, the basis for that, those policies, but I don't believe that they should be on the website. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Where the policy can be found. If someone did want to come in and view this policy that we're talking about today, they can come in and go to the, the district office, and they can supply you with that. Or you can go on the website. E2 Gowanda HS Library: While you're on… Further. E2 Gowanda HS Library: When you're on the, the district's website, you click on District, the tab and scroll down to safety plan. When you click on that safety plan, it'll bring up, the district-wide safety plan. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Updates that were made, we met on June 4th, to go through the policy, and the updates, that we

went through were the emergency phone numbers. E2 Gowanda HS Library: we changed the way they were sort… the way they were laid out, so it was a little more under… easier to understand, and then the SRO went through and verified those phone numbers that were in there. And the principals updated the prevention and intervention programs that they use. E2 Gowanda HS Library: It's truly all I have, Davey. Is there any questions? E2 Gowanda HS Library: I wasn't even gonna look at you. E2 Gowanda HS Library: In the past, some schools in central New York have had problems with… E2 Gowanda HS Library: migrants and… And, and protests about that issue. E2 Gowanda HS Library: I don't think it's an issue here, but E2 Gowanda HS Library: Are we prepared if there was any Push back

on. E2 Gowanda HS Library: It might be something that… E2 Gowanda HS Library: I don't know if you can answer any better than… Well, we haven't had any activity here. We haven't had any, but… E2 Gowanda HS Library: I mean, that's the only topic that's coming up in the news. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Anything else? E2 Gowanda HS Library: I have a question about the Raptor system. You kind of alluded to it a little bit. So it says that it takes photos, and it takes a copy of their driver's license, and it gives them a badge to wear. Does that thing for the bad guys that shouldn't be in here? It looks for sex offender. We've had… E2 Gowanda HS Library: contractors that have come in, they're like, I don't want to do that. They

think that we're, you know, looking for a DWI or anything else. Alls it looks for is sex offender status, and it'll let us know. We did put in, custodial. E2 Gowanda HS Library: I'm sure that it has to be updated every year, where… but if that's in there, then, if you came in and you weren't allowed to take your child. E2 Gowanda HS Library: And it was actually in there, you know, you can pick them up on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, and you come in on Thursday, it'll give us a warning. E2 Gowanda HS Library: that you can't do that. Sex offender, it brings up a photo. My name, Richard Smith, comes up as a sex offender. So it frequently, does, but it's… you can look at the photo to verify that, yes, it is

actually me, or no, it's this other person. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Also, in that Raptor system, there is an emergency button that's on the screen, or icon, and if they click on that, let's say someone did come in, and E2 Gowanda HS Library: they're irate, it's an irate parent, they have them in that locked vestibule, they don't want to just call or page something. They can click on that emergency icon, and it will call… it'll call me, it'll call Ben, it'll call Ross, and there's a couple other E2 Gowanda HS Library: people that we have that are on there. If I told you, I'd probably get them wrong right now, but those three are the main, ones that it calls us, calls and texts. They'll let us know where, like, what office is calling. E2

Gowanda HS Library: And do you regularly train on the Raptor system, or is that something that's done manually, or that's just the one where they… E2 Gowanda HS Library: employee gets brought in. When they get brought in, we do. I set up their password, go through everything with them. E2 Gowanda HS Library: We don't normally do a… E2 Gowanda HS Library: An annual with that. But it is when they first come in. E2 Gowanda HS Library: And if they do have issues, they call me. Sure. E2 Gowanda HS Library: I know when you've got an irate person that's trying to come in that sometimes there's not always opportunities to call. Yep, and it… E2 Gowanda HS Library: It's a secret way to do it. Instead, like I said, instead of paging, or calling, if you

did have someone there, then they can just E2 Gowanda HS Library: So you could sit over there. Yeah, makes sense. Please wait a second, and all you have to do is click on that, and we'll… E2 Gowanda HS Library: will come. Thanks. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Anything else? E2 Gowanda HS Library: Mark, one last question. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Alright. Thank you. Yep. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Then I'd make a consideration of motion to adjourn the public hearing. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Suck it. E2 Gowanda HS Library: All in favor? Aye.
