001E2 Gowanda HS Library: Thank you. I'd like to call the meeting to order. E2 Gowanda HS Library: We could stand for that pledge of light. E2 Gowanda HS Library: I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. E2 Gowanda HS Library: The consideration a motion to accept the agenda? E2 Gowanda HS Library: Second. All in favor? Aye. Thank you, that'll bring us to our Board of Education bylaws. E2 Gowanda HS Library: The Board remains committed to providing opportunities for the public to address the Board on items of public interest. E2 Gowanda HS Library: With that in mind, the board wishes to remind the public of its adopted policy, 1510. E2 Gowanda HS Library:
002Which sets forth reasonable guidelines in terms of ensuring an orderly discussion. E2 Gowanda HS Library: In exceptional circumstances, the board may, as an entity, decide to provide a verbal response to issues or questions raised during public session. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Any person who wishes to address the board may do so by filling out the appropriate form and handing the form to the board president. The board president will call upon the person to speak at the appropriate time, and each such person will be permitted to speak for a time limit of 3 minutes. E2 Gowanda HS Library: We stand in front of the board table and address the board directly. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Thank you. Next, we have our calendar. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Our next Board of Education meeting will take place on
003Wednesday, June 17th. It will start at 6 p.m. with a public hearing. Immediately following the public hearing, the regular meeting will change. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Next, I make a consideration of motion to vote and approve Agenda Items 2.02 to 5.03. E2 Gowanda HS Library: So… Second. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Do you have any discussion? I have a question. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Just a general question about, like, the keyboard specialists? Is that where we… that's where we are, right? E2 Gowanda HS Library: That's one of the consensus? Okay. So, do they need… are there any, like, probationary, including, like, civil service exams or anything? Just because I was curious. I just wondered how that worked. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Because I saw it said non-certified, and I just kind of wondered what that meant.
004She's been away from the civil service exams, but she's left until probationary time period. Okay. E2 Gowanda HS Library: So that kind of takes the place out of the civil service, sort of… Yeah, through chat. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Yeah, but what more are you looking for here? They're just non-certified. E2 Gowanda HS Library: So we're, like, we're certified, they're non-certified. She's not, she's not on a certifiable list for civil service. There's all kinds of certified and non-certified. She, yeah. So there are still lists. E2 Gowanda HS Library: That they're not certified any longer if there's not enough people on them, and they're no longer giving the exams. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Yeah, okay. Because they felt the tests weren't reflective of the work they're doing? Yeah. 100% accurate. Yeah, I just wondered… E2 Gowanda
005HS Library: About that, if involved. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Okay, alright. Sounds good. That's all I got. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Any other discussion? E2 Gowanda HS Library: Should I… That was adoption level. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Sorry, could you re-read the last portion of it? E2 Gowanda HS Library: There's King goofed up on my screen. 202 to 503. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Sorry. With no further discussion, all in favor? Aye. E2 Gowanda HS Library: On that slide is our forward review of the Treasury important financial statement for April 2026. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Do you have any discussion? E2 Gowanda HS Library: Move along. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Next, we have… E2 Gowanda HS Library: Consideration of motion to vote and approve upon recommendation of the superintendent to appoint the following Appendix C Department
006Chairperson positions for the 2026-2027 school year at the contractual rate. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Yeah, I get all those names right. E2 Gowanda HS Library: So moved. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Okay. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Any discussion? E2 Gowanda HS Library: Oh, so, yeah, just an explanation to abstaining from that, being that it was… Of pinpointed decisions. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Any other discussions? E2 Gowanda HS Library: All in favor? Aye. Aye. Any opposed? E2 Gowanda HS Library: Oh, sorry, yes. I'm sorry, I didn't know you. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Public discussion, comment, and agenda and non-agenda items. I have none for this evening, so I'll move us right into our superintendent's report. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Oh, thank you. Well, good evening, everybody. Happy end of May. I want to start with a few
007thank yous. Last week, I want to thank the community and all the community members who came out, exercised the right to vote. E2 Gowanda HS Library: And overall, the majority supported the 26-27 school budget and the associated propositions. Thank you very much. E2 Gowanda HS Library: And thank you to the board, first work and time developing the budget and associated propositions that were largely supported by our community. Proposition 1, basic budget, passed, 75% voted in the affirmative. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Proposition 2, which is for diesel buses. E2 Gowanda HS Library: 85% of our public voted E2 Gowanda HS Library: Causing for that? Proposition 3, we established the Capital Improvements Reserve Fund, 79% E2 Gowanda HS Library: And then, Practition 4, 82% of people, support a local library organization, so thankful for that. Congratulations to
008our returning and newly elected board members, Zachary Nobles, to my left, and welcome to our new board member, Andrew Granat. School board service really, truly affects the quality of education for all students, so I thank you for your service. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Let's close. E2 Gowanda HS Library: A couple thank yous leading up to that election night. The Kiwanis Club did their annual Meet the Candidate Night. Thank Jerry Greenlee, Dave France for moderating, Mark Matthew and the Better Kiwanis Club putting themselves out for that. It's a good, good opportunity. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Congratulations on the agenda. As you know, Dave Smith, my long-term, long-time friend, colleague, district employee, great job as assistant principal, is retiring. Wendy Luce is being… has been appointed to fill his shoes, starting next year, so welcome to her,
009and she's gonna do great. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Couple athletic congratulations at the end of the year. Boys Lacrosse had a great season, finished 6th in Class D. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Girls lacrosse, great season, good for all those young ladies. Fourth in Class D. Cadence Luther scored 100 career goals, and Nina Gulon had 100 career saves. So, really great seasons for those young ladies. Softball, lost in the quarterfinals to Wilson 2-1, but had a great, great season with Addison Kota. E2 Gowanda HS Library: 400 career strikeouts and 200 career hits. E2 Gowanda HS Library: I think I struck out 400 times literally. He's a phenomenal athlete, great intelligent plays. Baseball's still rolling right now, they are undefeated, 14-0 lead champs. E2 Gowanda HS Library: First in Class C, and they play in the quarterfinals,
010or excuse me, the semifinals here tomorrow night at 5 o'clock versus Brockton. So, we're available here at, next door in our field. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Check out those young men. Track, great, great season. Isabella… E2 Gowanda HS Library: So Isabel's named, Gulier. First place high jump at the CCAA since Super 8, and Olivia Rick, your freshman, broke the pole vault record twice, which is now at 8 feet, so kudos to her, that's pretty amazing. E2 Gowanda HS Library: For a quick announcements, maybe… E2 Gowanda HS Library: A few weeks ago, I talked about, replacing Healthy Kids as our before and after school program. We are in the process of working with another vendor right at school. Really excited to be working with them. E2 Gowanda HS Library: They are having a virtual kickoff, June
0112nd, just next week, I guess, for those parents and families who signed up for the programming. E2 Gowanda HS Library: We're in the process right now of sending all the documents to them to get licensed in our area. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Once they're licensed, families who are eligible for subsidies for child care subsidies from the state should be eligible to still continue to get those. So, really excited about the programming and making sure that it'll be staffed appropriately every morning, every afternoon, which is the problem. And then everything, Kowan Central School District's on Facebook and social media. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Did a couple things about our capital projects. The pool, tile is ongoing. It is upon schedule. I'll send the board some pictures this week, but, it's looking… E2 Gowanda HS Library: It's
012got the shape of a pool, it's got the tile like a pool, it's turned into a pool, so that's exciting. The CAP 2025 capital project, our design team is actively working through the design E2 Gowanda HS Library: They are on target of their 6% completion date by June 3rd, so we're on target of finishing design workup, getting that submitted to SED shortly. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Another storm update? Oh, well, I don't have a huge update, other than what the last time, but, all the facilities now have SED job numbers. We're getting claim checks coming from our insurance companies. We're starting still to inventory repairs, and starting to get them done as we can, but… E2 Gowanda HS Library: I do want to add one thing. On the signage, I know we've had people recognize
013that the signs out front of the schools are damaged. Those should be fixed, hopefully within the next month or two. The scoreboards are not going to be fixed till fall, just so people know. E2 Gowanda HS Library: And I've heard a lot of inquiries about the two trucks that were damaged. E2 Gowanda HS Library: That are sitting by the, shed over there. E2 Gowanda HS Library: They will be going for a public auction on Auctions International soon, so those that are interested, because they seem to be a hot commodity, check on Auctions International and our website for that information. E2 Gowanda HS Library: And we've got all of our checks back for the damage to the buses so far. E2 Gowanda HS Library: I have a question about the, the buses in the Prop 1,
014the four that were approved. What ones were existing that hadn't gotten delivered yet? Were there old buses, or were they all delivered? No, we have all the new buses, some of which got damaged, and then we had E2 Gowanda HS Library: We have 3 or 4 that are sitting over at the sewage… sewer plant that you can see out the road. Those are going for sale as well, and they did not get damaged because of where they were sitting. E2 Gowanda HS Library: But our new buses did get… Of course, yeah. As did our new trucks that we've got, that were years behind. And what would be the estimated delivery for the four new ones? E2 Gowanda HS Library: She doesn't… she'll place them now that it was approved. E2 Gowanda HS Library: It used
015to be November, December. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Everybody in your district is ordering now the diesel buses, although now I expect that should… now things will get delayed. The passage of the ZEV got delayed 5 years. E2 Gowanda HS Library: So hopefully now the diesel buses can kind of catch back up, and we'll see them hopefully December-ish time frame. And is our fleet… E2 Gowanda HS Library: you know, relatively newer because of these additional purchases that we're making over the years, so… Yes, yes, yep, yeah, because we were trying to kind of stock up on the diesel buses the last couple years. E2 Gowanda HS Library: thinking that we had to change to the electric buses sooner than we had to, so… And what's the new year for the zero emission? 2032, and then full
016implementation by 2040. E2 Gowanda HS Library: I'm correct in my direction? Yes, yes. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Yeah, there's really not, yeah. Was there any clarification on if our contracted buses would still have to fall under that? E2 Gowanda HS Library: As far as I knew, they had to. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Because there's still buses, and there's still school buses. I knew you'd asked that question, and then… E2 Gowanda HS Library: I had to root it down, and then after it changed to ZEV, I kind of lost… I lost a little bit of interest, but I think, in talking to our vendor, that the, Wendell that was doing the study, all the school buses had to comply with it. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Yeah. And hopefully the technology changes to suit the buses that
017make these longer runs. Yeah. Hopefully the extra few years gives it… Yeah. I think they started to realize that the capacity wasn't there. So that's one thing I'm glad we weren't the… E2 Gowanda HS Library: the first in line to implement on that end, because I think districts who did implement full bore, they'll see the change in the technology, and have already had some changes in technology, so they're kind of seeing some of the issues. E2 Gowanda HS Library: I'll see the man. Thank you. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Was… sorry, the childcare in the beginning and the end of the day, or before school and at the end of the day? Was there gonna be a virtual meeting, you said, for that? Yeah, it's on, June 2nd. 6 on Tuesday. 6 o'clock. E2 Gowanda HS
018Library: Is there gonna be an in-person one that some people could attend if they wanted to? Once you sign up, they're only doing the virtual option, but it'll be recorded. So, once you sign a children, child, up, you can look at it. E2 Gowanda HS Library: They're very reachable, approachable, so I'm assuming if you have any… E2 Gowanda HS Library: They call them. They claim they have a great chatbot that helps answer questions. Would there be somebody at the district that could assist the family that needs help with E2 Gowanda HS Library: Navigating that, if there was? Yeah, call Electric Scroll, called the scroll. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Thank you, Diego. E2 Gowanda HS Library: So up next, we have our student board member report. Alright. I didn't get a big list from all the
019principals today. E2 Gowanda HS Library: It was principal and assistant principal of the day today, so two very lucky young boys, got that privilege today. That was really exciting. For the middle school, Chef Lorinda John was in Mr. O'Rourke's health classes, teaching food, prep, and safety. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Also for the middle school, their band and chorus concert is June 2nd? E2 Gowanda HS Library: The high school's being horse concert has been moved from tomorrow to next Monday at 7pm. E2 Gowanda HS Library: The high school, there's, we just finished up prom a couple weeks ago. It was great, it was so much fun. The 2020 Travel Club. E2 Gowanda HS Library: is going to Ireland and… E2 Gowanda HS Library: Alright, perfect, I'm glad everybody else knows. So, Ireland in Scotland, if you're
020interested, be sure to talk to Ms. Ridic, pick up the flyers that are out and about. Senior Strut is coming up for the seniors June 15th, the second-to-last day of classes in school. There are a couple mandatory graduation meetings. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Prior to that, so… Mr. E2 Gowanda HS Library: That's all I have from the principals. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Thank you. E2 Gowanda HS Library: So, up next, we have our draft organizational agenda. E2 Gowanda HS Library: So, the… what I have attached is our working agenda. We… actually, today, Dr. Anderson has some corrections for… E2 Gowanda HS Library: That I do not have on the one that is attached. E2 Gowanda HS Library: But it's… it's in constant flux. We're constantly changing and updating what needs to be done on it.
021E2 Gowanda HS Library: So… E2 Gowanda HS Library: If you have any questions, or if you see any issues with it, please let me know, the final E2 Gowanda HS Library: One will be at our next meeting, and we'll make sure that it's set and ready, so that what you're seeing is what we're going to have in front of us, the first meeting in July. Does anyone have any questions about it, or anything? E2 Gowanda HS Library: Did you dream up something about that, or did I dream that? E2 Gowanda HS Library: No, that was… Maybe it was a nightmare, probably. No, I guess it was more specifically to… E2 Gowanda HS Library: before meeting schedule, right? So that'll be the next topic. Oh, okay, sorry. You're dreading it that badly, it's next time. Yeah,
022hey, it all just mushes together. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Sorry! E2 Gowanda HS Library: Alright, so if we have nothing more for the draft agenda, we'll move to our 2026-2027 board meeting schedule. Okay. Absolutely. E2 Gowanda HS Library: I'm judging it too, because whatever. E2 Gowanda HS Library: It's ready. E2 Gowanda HS Library: This is a schedule I created for next year. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Based on exactly what we did this year. So if, if you, want to discuss… the schedule? E2 Gowanda HS Library: Please, please do. This is what I'm presenting to you. Of course, you're welcome to tell me what you'd like to see different. I'll just start off, and then I'll pass the call. I know you have some comments and ideas, and… E2 Gowanda HS Library: I think over the
023last two years, right, we've worked the one meeting a month, and we switched to the one meeting a month due to personal obligations, right, timeliness, those sort of things. So, personally, I feel as though it's gone well. We haven't had the need to have a special meeting to handle business. I know sometimes… E2 Gowanda HS Library: Right, we can lose some of the detail, but… E2 Gowanda HS Library: I think it's important to recognize, you know, what our actual responsibility is of general oversight and governance, so… E2 Gowanda HS Library: That being said, I know Zach has some ideas, to maybe add some information, maybe a community town hall type thing to be able to bring some of it back, maybe not in a formal board meeting setting. I'll pass it over to you. E2
024Gowanda HS Library: share what you were thinking. So, that sums it up really well, and I concur. Like, I know I've done the two meetings a month thing. It seemed rather repetitive, and it didn't seem like we were accomplishing necessarily E2 Gowanda HS Library: more, right, for what we were doing. But what I do miss is the engagement that we had, or the opportunity to be engaged more with the community. That's why I think proposing a town hall model for the initial meeting, and then the secondary meeting be a constructive governance meeting E2 Gowanda HS Library: More formal, like we've been having. E2 Gowanda HS Library: I think would be advantageous. I think it would… E2 Gowanda HS Library: or at least have the option to engage community members more, and get their feedback. So,
025essentially, they could… E2 Gowanda HS Library: isolate that to the meeting that they want to make any sort of presentations to. I know we had a number of things, like our travel club, right, that presented to us. It would be reserved space for those type events. E2 Gowanda HS Library: things. And then we could obviously participate in that by either observing it, or actually being there if we wanted to as just a community member, but then it's something that we can E2 Gowanda HS Library: Kind of narrowed down and just… E2 Gowanda HS Library: To actually talk about the data and the specifics of it, instead of the whole presentation on one night. E2 Gowanda HS Library: The thing that's kind of hard is if you have four board members together in one place, it's
026a meeting. E2 Gowanda HS Library: So that maybe… Like, how many of us… E2 Gowanda HS Library: So there's a couple of questions. One, how often would we be, or would you be looking to do that? Because… E2 Gowanda HS Library: what I'm… E2 Gowanda HS Library: thinking, right, is our staff, our faculty, they're busy, right? And for them to come in to present something, they have done a wonderful job anytime we've asked. But I don't know if it's asking too much to put on their plate. E2 Gowanda HS Library: If we were to say, every month I want something, right, if… E2 Gowanda HS Library: Right, part of the consideration is, right, they would be coming in on their own time, they don't get paid extra to come into a board meeting, so just
027kind of putting that hat on, like, is it too much of an ask as a board or as a board member to say, hey, we want to have this opportunity, whereas maybe E2 Gowanda HS Library: you know, it wouldn't be on the board schedule, right, I think for the formal business, this makes sense, but if we wanted to look at E2 Gowanda HS Library: Hey, can we do a community town hall-type meeting? E2 Gowanda HS Library: in the fall or in the winter, and is there any groups within the district that are interested in presenting instead of saying, hey, you will come up with something, right? If somebody wants to have the opportunity to take the stage, maybe not at the board meeting, and just say, like, hey, yeah, let's… let's pick… E2 Gowanda HS
028Library: you know, December, you know, whatever, first week of December or second week, and, you know, we want to come in and share all the good things that are going on, that might make a little more sense. I don't know. I don't have the answer here, I'm just kind of throwing an idea out. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Yeah, I think that's more reasonable. Because I do think that to… Consider doing that every month. E2 Gowanda HS Library: You know, and then, like we said, if we're there, then it's a meeting, and then what happens, you know, and stuff, so… but I do like the general idea. No, I agree. And my only concern with the E2 Gowanda HS Library: way our schedule has been running, and I wasn't here prior to that, so I don't
029have anything to compare it to. E2 Gowanda HS Library: is I have heard more so from, like, E2 Gowanda HS Library: community members and parents and staff, I guess, that sometimes it does just seem like it takes forever for things to get approved, because we're only meeting once a month. Like, when somebody's waiting for board approval for a position, or whatever, you know, it's that extra, which… E2 Gowanda HS Library: Is that reason enough to have two meetings a month? E2 Gowanda HS Library: Not necessarily. That's just… I'm just sharing what I've done. And I think that's valid. I think one of the things that we've tried to do is if there is, like, an appointment that needs to happen in a timely fashion, right, we go ahead with it, and then we backdate the
030appointment based off of… E2 Gowanda HS Library: our meeting date, right? Because, you know, you think. E2 Gowanda HS Library: to have everybody come in and go through the process, simply for an appointment, does it make sense? I mean, there's nothing wrong with it, don't get me wrong, like, if people need to be appointed, like, I can value that. E2 Gowanda HS Library: But I don't think it happens that often to where we need to… Oh. E2 Gowanda HS Library: you know, change the schedule. We still have the ability to reserve, like, hey, we have some things coming up, let's say September, hypothetically. After our meeting, we know we have a hot topic item. We can say, hey, in 5 days, we're gonna have a board meeting for that special session, and it's approved, so
031we still have the ability to do that. Right. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Okay, yeah, that's good. E2 Gowanda HS Library: But I think for the community town hall, that would be a good one for… E2 Gowanda HS Library: Putting it on the parking lot, and kind of coming up and, like, getting some feedback from E2 Gowanda HS Library: people, probably not right now, with end of school year, I'm sure everything is just chaos. I'm sure the teachers would not appreciate us. We don't have any presentations right now. But, to just get it out there, like, hey, even… it could even be start of school year early fall, like, whatever, you know. E2 Gowanda HS Library: you're kind of envisioning. Yeah, and I guess I… to be clear, some of the things that I would envision
032that we actually get is E2 Gowanda HS Library: Some of the building principles and E2 Gowanda HS Library: that we've already gotten presentations for, it would give them an opportunity to do it on that night and host it in a more community-type manner. E2 Gowanda HS Library: I don't know if there's a reason that we can't do that, if there's a strict reason why we have them present specifically to us. E2 Gowanda HS Library: But if they were presenting to the whole community, and to the point where we still had access to the information… But they are presenting to the community. Yeah, we're live. Yes, we're live, so they're welcome. But here, yeah. That's why we've done it at board meetings, because that's when people are watching. E2 Gowanda HS Library: I think part of
033it is we've tried to E2 Gowanda HS Library: to accommodate that at the board meeting, to then give… You know, that… E2 Gowanda HS Library: You know, when we started, it was the 5 Minutes of Fame, let people come and share that, so it was… E2 Gowanda HS Library: It provided that opportunity to have it all in one night, as opposed to splitting it up, not to… E2 Gowanda HS Library: I don't think. E2 Gowanda HS Library: there's anything wrong with the idea, I just… E2 Gowanda HS Library: the best way to move forward with that. E2 Gowanda HS Library: And there are months that you have, like, two meetings, so we did talk about whether it made sense to maybe on some of those nights… I think some of those nights were longer for
034D&P than others, so I think maybe internally we looked to try and maybe spread those out better. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Because I know some of these dates that were picked for board meeting dates don't align with the budget and the audit. E2 Gowanda HS Library: So they have to be changed anyway. Kathy picked these dates, and like, if there's Veterans Days up there, that's not a day we're gonna have a meeting either. So I think there's room to make improvements with this, to align with the financial statements approvals, the budget timelines. E2 Gowanda HS Library: The budget workshops then, because then we do need extra, and then maybe try to segregate out those dates that were heavy. E2 Gowanda HS Library: the heavier meetings, we can go back and see which meetings were heavy,
035and kind of try and spread those out a little bit. I don't know that you'd probably want two meetings in August. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Typically, that's… the board doesn't want to meet twice in August. Hold on, before we start carving up August. The 5th is marked as a board meeting, but it's really a retreat. Jay Standard's coming that night, so it's 5 o'clock, it's a good… E2 Gowanda HS Library: where we sat, we can do our… whatever we choose to do, but then it's not really a board meeting, it's retreat. So, the 19th's really only August board meeting, nothing right there. And then her point, Arabelle's point, you can call special meetings, E2 Gowanda HS Library: We're a little heavy this year, but we can do workshops, too, prior. I mean, we start at
0366.30, but we can start a workshop at 5.30, and we can do those discussion pieces, give an hour of time to those, then lead into meetings, so not here at 10 o'clock, getting in the meat of stuff. E2 Gowanda HS Library: And also, to Zach, your point, the principles, people come, or either the boards request them, or I have requested them come, because there's something important to their government structure. So, the five minutes of things really highlight all the academic success that we've had year-round. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Where we need improvement. E2 Gowanda HS Library: best to you as a governing body, but it's a public meeting. So, Mr. Gable's here, for example, this evening, got to call you out, we could see you here, but it's recorded, so anybody can participate, so it
037is a public meeting. They can come interact. But then, you know, try to be mindful of our administrator's time. You know, we come on off nights to do a presentation, they would do it, but, you know, we could serve their time as well. E2 Gowanda HS Library: So, that's just from the facts. E2 Gowanda HS Library: I guess the other thing that I would look at is… E2 Gowanda HS Library: Would we have a way, maybe over the summer, late summer, early school year, to kind of poll the community to see if it's something that they would even be interested in? E2 Gowanda HS Library: Because, at the end of the day, we don't want to put the work together, have… E2 Gowanda HS Library: whoever's presenting, and then have no value show. Right, yeah.
038Right, that would be… E2 Gowanda HS Library: It just doesn't feel right, you know what I mean? So, I think it's something we can continue to look at, right? And that might be a good conversation piece during the retreat on August. E2 Gowanda HS Library: It's okay, I'm just saying, you know, we sometimes struggle to make it to our retreats and workshops, so maybe we can do a better job there. E2 Gowanda HS Library: It would be a good time, I think, to, you know, kind of have a think tank. We had good food. I was there. If I can just throw in, this calendar isn't marked this way, but, I should have written draft on it so you know it's a draft. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Because, like, that meeting in November, on the
03911th, yes, that is Veterans Day. I don't know, when I created the calendar, what night we want to move it to. E2 Gowanda HS Library: So, like, what I have in front of you is not what's set in stone. It's kind of the draft of what we've done this year. E2 Gowanda HS Library: So, if you also look in August, I marked 2 days, Only because barb has E2 Gowanda HS Library: Don't you have something that has to be approved? E2 Gowanda HS Library: in August, and I wasn't sure when you had to have that done by, so I don't know when a meeting should be in August. So, there is still work that needs to be done to this calendar. It's not… E2 Gowanda HS Library: which… which night would you like to have
040it this year, Barb? I'll have to double-check, but I think we did it the third week last year. E2 Gowanda HS Library: It's based on the Erie County's tax deadline. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Her calendar's not set. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Well, this is kind of subject to change, right? Yes. When would you like to do the meeting in November? E2 Gowanda HS Library: Would you like to do it Tuesday or Thursday, or do you want to bump it up, bump it down? Well, before you answer the message, the 4th, only because if you go to the 18th, it's going to be 5 weeks from your previous meeting. E2 Gowanda HS Library: You know, we're getting in the holiday season. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Well, October's is wrong, too. October's has to be October 7th,
041not October 14th. E2 Gowanda HS Library: The financial statement audit? So we'll move October to the 7th, we'll move November to the 4th, and that'll clean that part of it out. Okay. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Excellent. E2 Gowanda HS Library: And then for August… We're gonna leave the 18th. The 5th, though, wouldn't be on here because it's not… E2 Gowanda HS Library: It's not your official meeting. E2 Gowanda HS Library: That's what I was thinking. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Sure. E2 Gowanda HS Library: annotated LC. E2 Gowanda HS Library: What kind of splash retreat. Yeah, I can call it a diff… I can pick a different color. Purple. Purple. E2 Gowanda HS Library: And we had discussed about putting the dates for those kind of fringe meetings somewhere else, too, right? Yes, putting them on
042the, E2 Gowanda HS Library: Parking, on the parking lot. E2 Gowanda HS Library: So, do you think… do you want to put… August 8th. E2 Gowanda HS Library: on August 5th on the parking lot, instead of on this calendar. Might be a good place for them. Well, I was just gonna ask about August 5th, too, because I know I didn't… wasn't able to make it last year, because I was… work obligations. E2 Gowanda HS Library: It's gonna be the same this year, so I don't know if there's another date we could do it on, or if everybody else can make it, then it's fine. E2 Gowanda HS Library: comes in, he'll be here 4th and 5th, working with our faculty, so it's really a matter of just convenience. So, other than that, it could be
043really any time. That's fine. Like I said, I know it's the exact week that I missed last… same week last year, I had to go to work, and I know it will be this year, too. E2 Gowanda HS Library: We can zoom here. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Zoom in. Yeah. Again, that could be really any time, just Jason's available. Yeah. E2 Gowanda HS Library: So everybody look at August and see what works best for ourselves. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Well, does anybody else know that they have a conflict for the tip? E2 Gowanda HS Library: I think that being said, we would love to have you there, however. Like I said, I just figured I'd ask, it's no big deal. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Oh, wait, so for right now, we're gonna leave it? It's
044August 5th. Yeah. E2 Gowanda HS Library: And then for the parking lot, we'll get into that more later, but we'll add the long haul idea to that. E2 Gowanda HS Library: You can call it something else. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Huh? No. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Anything else for the board calendar? April 7th would be… have to be the meeting for April, not the 14th. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Spring breaks over. E2 Gowanda HS Library: It has to do with budget. Yeah. Okay. It has to do with budget consent, that meeting… E2 Gowanda HS Library: And the component vote date won't be decided until probably February 1st. That could be between, the 16th and the 30th, April, where we don't have it. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Kind of like this year, we didn't really equip
045him, and he came back for a second one. That's why I have yellow on the 27th, because that… I'm not sure. E2 Gowanda HS Library: I'm not… because this year surprised me when it was the last week of April. Usually it's the third week of April, but… E2 Gowanda HS Library: As long as that information comes out, we can adjust. Yeah, we'll adjust. E2 Gowanda HS Library: I feel like somewhere in there, we had… that Kathy and I had talked about it being… E2 Gowanda HS Library: too long between meetings this past year, but I don't remember when it was. But if we come up with something, we can always… Yeah, we talked about doing… I feel like it's 3 weeks. Something around in May, or between March and April, I feel like we had
046a lot going on, but I don't remember what, so I'll look back and see. E2 Gowanda HS Library: I mean, we could keep just one right there for now. E2 Gowanda HS Library: And like you said, we can always do something special if necessary. There's 3 weeks right now between the February and March meetings. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Anything more for the meeting schedule? E2 Gowanda HS Library: So I will probably have this on our next meeting also with it. E2 Gowanda HS Library: updated. Okay. E2 Gowanda HS Library: So, next we have our 2026-2027 Standing Committee. E2 Gowanda HS Library: I don't know. E2 Gowanda HS Library: We should wait until our new board member is here before we make any actual decision on that, but it doesn't hurt to take a look and
047see where you're at, and if there's other things that you might be interested in. E2 Gowanda HS Library: So my thought was to put this out there for you guys to see, and to see where our holes are. E2 Gowanda HS Library: I added Amy already to the audit committee, but yes, everything will need to change as more information comes in. E2 Gowanda HS Library: And once Amy is on… officially on the board, probably at the, first meeting in July, we can actually talk about who's gonna move, and do what, and where Amy's gonna fill it in. E2 Gowanda HS Library: This is more for information. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Appreciate it. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Can I advocate for an alternate on that right now, to give everybody a heads up? E2 Gowanda HS
048Library: For legislative team. E2 Gowanda HS Library: So that may be advantageous if I can't attend a meeting. E2 Gowanda HS Library: whatever's, like, unnoticed. I feel like in the past, we have had, and often I just… E2 Gowanda HS Library: The Erie County School Boards does ask for an alternate. In the past, we've had people volunteer for that, so I've added onto it. Last year, no one volunteered, so that's why we don't have an alternate. E2 Gowanda HS Library: But, Erie County School Boards would like an alternate. E2 Gowanda HS Library: So… We can? Still. E2 Gowanda HS Library: So then, up next we have discussion for student board members. E2 Gowanda HS Library: And so I… You're stuck at home? E2 Gowanda HS Library: Go ahead. Okay, E2 Gowanda HS Library: I don't
049know if the link's working on that screen or not. But there… there was some… E2 Gowanda HS Library: regulations that I think had changed back in 2024. But essentially what I was trying to advocate for is that if E2 Gowanda HS Library: We had any interest in doing this. E2 Gowanda HS Library: was… E2 Gowanda HS Library: extending an offer to the students, essentially to have, like, a VP, and then maybe make it a junior E2 Gowanda HS Library: Instead of a senior. So that way it's a two-year type term, if you will, just so that they are not coming into this blind. I don't know how our student board member… let's put you on the spot. E2 Gowanda HS Library: But I don't know how our student board members would feel about that. Maybe
050there's no interest from the students? I don't know, but I thought it might… E2 Gowanda HS Library: A lot more of a… E2 Gowanda HS Library: ease into this role, instead of just kind of starkly coming in for one year. Oh, we got it. Okay. E2 Gowanda HS Library: I don't know if we… E2 Gowanda HS Library: Had any interest in that, and then… E2 Gowanda HS Library: I guess, is the… maybe I'm jumping ahead on the agenda here. E2 Gowanda HS Library: But potentially adding a Appendix C position. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Here's them. E2 Gowanda HS Library: a different time. Yeah, I'll bring that… Yeah, well, tendency to be a little more challenging, because it's teacher's work, and that requires negotiations between the… E2 Gowanda HS Library: me as the residents of the
051district and the teachers. Okay. E2 Gowanda HS Library: As far as the student board member, have we looked at our policy? Because I think our policy… E2 Gowanda HS Library: Up to date? It is up to date, okay. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Shop. E2 Gowanda HS Library: But we could allow that to happen, right? With that policy? Or no? E2 Gowanda HS Library: you want to do a junior and a senior, and have, like, the junior then be there for two… based two-year commitment, right? Yeah. If they wanted. If they wanted to, if they wanted to drop off… Yeah, there's no requirement for grade level anymore. I used to be a senior, and then they got this law, got rid of the grade level requirements, so it can be really anybody, and there's a variety
052of ways that students can be selected. It's up the board, whatever you choose to do, or… E2 Gowanda HS Library: Right now, we're just kind of canvassing seniors, but we could open it up to everybody. E2 Gowanda HS Library: What are we going to do? Yeah, I think if we were to look at… E2 Gowanda HS Library: you know, canvassing the juniors, I think, is fine if nobody was interested, then… E2 Gowanda HS Library: then that gives us our answer. I would need to try to force somebody into the spot. If we have multiple seniors versus, you know, a senior and a junior, right, we have had two board members, or two student board members, so I don't think that that's… E2 Gowanda HS Library: a huge difference. It just comes down to, like, the
053grade level and expectations, so I think, you know, at the start of the next school year. E2 Gowanda HS Library: We can canvas both grades and see what interest there is. E2 Gowanda HS Library: I… E2 Gowanda HS Library: and go from there, as long as the, you know, policy committee looks at the policy and says, hey, everything is on board on our side, I don't… I don't… E2 Gowanda HS Library: I'm not opposed to it, I guess I would say. E2 Gowanda HS Library: We have already canvassed, the juniors, the incoming seniors, and we already have, E2 Gowanda HS Library: through interest for Dr. Anderson to meet with and then bring to the board. Our plan is to have them, in executive session, at the next board meeting. E2 Gowanda HS Library: How many
054are we allowed to have? Two? E2 Gowanda HS Library: I don't think there's an hour, right? We've had one to, like, what, like, 6. We had four. So, I guess, from my experience and ours, probably 2 probably tops, because you just get… kind of lose the experience. I think you get too many bucks. E2 Gowanda HS Library: And I'd feel bad telling you no. That is true. But then you have 3… so we have 3 candidates, just gonna quit… they've already gone through the high school. I'll just meet with them, just make sure they're… E2 Gowanda HS Library: Opacetic, and I plan to bring them to you on the 17th, so they can be appointed at your July meeting. E2 Gowanda HS Library: What's that struggle for? E2 Gowanda HS Library: what she thinks. About
055what's part. Well, what do you think about changing what we currently do? E2 Gowanda HS Library: I think… Do you think about adding a junior? What do you think about having more than one, two, three? E2 Gowanda HS Library: Well, I think the number of board members is really, like, up for grabs, like, it's about the experience, how experienced you want. E2 Gowanda HS Library: The students to… E2 Gowanda HS Library: gain or have, because, like, I feel like if you have 4 plus, like, they're missing out. You can't have… there's not enough space for 4 all at a time, so I feel like that would lead to a rotation, and not everybody gets, like, the same leg in the door. But, as far as the juniors being brought into E2 Gowanda HS Library: this
056position, I think… E2 Gowanda HS Library: it has been, like, tradition for seniors, like, I think that's something that a few of the seniors, like, look forward to, and, like. E2 Gowanda HS Library: I think bringing a junior in would not… E2 Gowanda HS Library: Kind of almost, take away the prestige of being a senior and being able to apply for this. E2 Gowanda HS Library: And get this, because, like, if you could do it as a junior, and you could do it as a senior, like. E2 Gowanda HS Library: I just think that… E2 Gowanda HS Library: it just takes away. It just takes away a piece of it. But that's just my personal opinion, I can't speak for everybody. E2 Gowanda HS Library: I think if we didn't have the interest as a
057senior, maybe then we'd look at January. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Well, so, but I guess that doesn't solve the problem of them still coming in blind on their senior year, right? So I guess if… if they were looking to alter governance, or if they were looking to influence us as board members that would alter governance, then I think it extends the… E2 Gowanda HS Library: opportunity offered to them better if they're… if they're allowed to come in when they're a junior. And I'm not saying that they have to take that senior role, maybe they take the E2 Gowanda HS Library: Vice President Role of the student board member. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Delegate, if you will. And then the senior takes the president home. E2 Gowanda HS Library: I guess I'm just looking to allow
058them a longer runway to learn the role. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Well, with that, there's 4 NPCs right there. That's what I was just thinking, too. They don't need a time. So I guess my question is, is do the cheaters know that they can do that, right? Like, I'm not trying to be a jerk, but… E2 Gowanda HS Library: Oh, no, I guess I looked at it the same way as Val was saying, is if they wanted to be here, they would definitely be showing up at a board meeting, and I think that if we say juniors can be allowed, that's going to limit our numbers of the seniors then at that point, too, because if we're saying four is enough, then you're saying that we're going to have to put at least one or
059two juniors in there. E2 Gowanda HS Library: I don't know, I, I, I… Okay. E2 Gowanda HS Library: I want the experience for everybody. If we could have 20 of them sitting here, I would prefer to have all of them, you know what I mean? But I agree, I think there's going to be a limit, and if we're going to have any, it probably should be to a senior. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Above a junior. Yeah, so I guess I just don't want this to be misconstrued as that I'm looking to not have a senior. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Right? Right. We, in the past. E2 Gowanda HS Library: One year, we had 4 seniors. E2 Gowanda HS Library: And the board chose to do two… E2 Gowanda HS Library: half the year, and to
060the other half of the year, and they just got lost in the weeds. They really did, and… If I can just add, one meeting, they actually, because the meeting went so long, and… E2 Gowanda HS Library: The students themselves were no longer interested. They were having a discussion among themselves at the table about something unrelated to the board. And I don't mean that as a negative slight towards them. It was… E2 Gowanda HS Library: We had lost them, because they weren't include… they couldn't be included in the conversations we were having. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Yeah. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Well, and I guess that would… E2 Gowanda HS Library: that's a double-edged sword, right? Like, that would be the point of why it would be good to have that second seat for them, right?
061Because then you learn it that first year when you're a junior. Well, then now you actually know what's going on when you're a senior. E2 Gowanda HS Library: I feel like it's a double-edged sword, because to be honest, why would a junior show up? They can't vote for us. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Like, most likely, right? Unless they're an old junior. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Like, I don't know. E2 Gowanda HS Library: The seniors don't have any vote either. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Well, you're a much higher potential that they might have a vote, right? Like, just be sure… No, I can't vote. Yeah, our students on anything on… No, no, no, I mean, like… Actually, vote us in. Like, there's 18-year-olds and seniors, right? So, like, I guess that's where… E2 Gowanda HS Library:
062I can't… I mean, if they're saying they wouldn't come to a meeting because of that, then why would they? E2 Gowanda HS Library: And that's… One question on there, but… E2 Gowanda HS Library: And maybe I dreamt this, too. But did I not see somewhere there was, like, a student ex officio board member workshop offered by somebody? OCES or something? Yes. The Erie County School Board Association offers it. We're just kind of getting on the right track now, because E2 Gowanda HS Library: They offer it in the fall, and that's when we are appointing our student board member. So now, going with this new law and appointing them sooner, which is what the intention is to appoint them at the July meeting. E2 Gowanda HS Library: then they will be able to go to that
063workshop. Soon, okay. They're gonna offer it sooner, too. No, no, we always approve it too late. Oh, oh, I see, I got it. Yeah. Well, then that would be… There were no rules, there were no laws on it before. I feel, you know, that would be something then to encourage them to do, to learn the process, and more about what to expect, and… And we definitely will. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Yeah. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Yeah, well, that might remedy a little bit of that, maybe, perhaps, I don't know. They won't be coming in blind, because they'll have that training to know what they're… What to expect. What they're even watching, what they're participating in. Right, yeah. They might not even know… E2 Gowanda HS Library: how to participate in a board meeting. Yeah, I
064would… I would encourage that, and that… E2 Gowanda HS Library: I like that idea. E2 Gowanda HS Library: What do you think? E2 Gowanda HS Library: I just feel like everything that we've said, I think there are plenty of pathways for the seniors to gain more experience prior to becoming a student board member than just throwing a junior as… on the board. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Just a couple other things we could look into first. E2 Gowanda HS Library: I'm not against juniors, I just, again, I think I would rather give it to a senior first. That's my only thought. If we don't have the candidates, then send it out one more time. And it sounds like we'll know early enough if we're looking… E2 Gowanda HS Library: to have them come to the July,
065if we know by then that there's not any seniors that are interested, maybe we open it up to juniors at that point. Or if we only have one, you know what I mean? I'm sure, yeah. E2 Gowanda HS Library: But I had it hanging on my fridge trying to get Molly to do it. She didn't want to hang out with Molly? Apparently not. And so at this point, just to pull the room… E2 Gowanda HS Library: If it's semi-official, right? How many would be interested in adding the junior to the board member spot? E2 Gowanda HS Library: If there weren't enough seniors. If there weren't enough seniors, then yes. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Alright, so it looks like you're gonna… E2 Gowanda HS Library: I'm used to it. I'm used to it. It's not a
066terrible idea. It's a good conversation piece, and it, you know, it gets people thinking, like, hey, if there's not seniors, like, hey, the door's open on that side of it, so… E2 Gowanda HS Library: That's why Max is the president, right there. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Yeah. E2 Gowanda HS Library: So, that'll move us into our Board of Education Communications. I have a couple of thank you letters. Thanks. E2 Gowanda HS Library: First one… E2 Gowanda HS Library: Thank you for everything. This is from Barbara Dempsey. Dear members of the Board of Education, thank you so much for the delicious lunch and provided for Teacher Appreciation Week. Your thoughtfulness was much appreciated. Thanks. We have a second one. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Thank you. Dear members of the Board of Education, thank you for providing
067lunch on Friday, May 8th. Your thoughtfulness and generosity are truly appreciated. Thank you for making staff feel valued and supported. Sincerely, Caitlin and Mesh. E2 Gowanda HS Library: yourself. E2 Gowanda HS Library: those. If you would like to take a look at them later, I'll absolutely pass them around. E2 Gowanda HS Library: And then, I also have a letter from the County of Cateragus Industrial Development Agency, just providing notice for, tax. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Jurisdiction, and that sort of thing, so if you wish to take a look at that, you absolutely can. E2 Gowanda HS Library: And that's all I have for communications. So that'll move us into our committee reports. E2 Gowanda HS Library: No, no, not it, you got it. E2 Gowanda HS Library: There was a lot discussed. So we went
068over, the age of entrance into, Kindergarten. E2 Gowanda HS Library: And we also went over, the naming, procedures for… honoring… Staff, E2 Gowanda HS Library: Honorary Navy Rights Policy. There we go. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Are these still a work in progress, or do you guys have stuff you're gonna be presenting? Let's say they're work in progress. Okay. Because we're… we're going… we're gonna have to bring… E2 Gowanda HS Library: both of those policies back to the board for approval. Age Entrance. Age entrance, I think you made a decision. Age of entrance, we're keeping the policy the same. E2 Gowanda HS Library: There's no changes to that policy. E2 Gowanda HS Library: As for honorary naming rights policy, I think we are all on the same page. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Just a matter of
069getting it all on paper, and to make it official, I guess, right? E2 Gowanda HS Library: We'll have first read for preparation of their work, we'll have first read for them at the next meeting. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Okay. E2 Gowanda HS Library: So then does that mean… because I don't remember exactly how that policy read for the entrance, so that means… You want me to read it? E2 Gowanda HS Library: H5, symbol 1 for the cutoff. E2 Gowanda HS Library: So there's no alternate consideration. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Like, case-by-case basis. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Yeah, so, initially, I was all for… It? E2 Gowanda HS Library: But we invited the elementary principal to sit in and give her recommendation. She believes the policy should stay as is. E2 Gowanda HS Library: There's always…
070going to be… Situations for families, right? You know? E2 Gowanda HS Library: My son was born a day after, or two weeks after, or… which seems totally reasonable, like, they should absolutely be, then considered for E2 Gowanda HS Library: entry, right? But then, E2 Gowanda HS Library: what is the date, and who, you know, how… I see where you're going by that. My thought, when we initially brought it up, too, I thought maybe E2 Gowanda HS Library: A parent doesn't request this very often, but apparently it is a request that's made E2 Gowanda HS Library: quite frequently. So changing the policy could open a can of worms, basically. And I also thought there was some sort of entry exam, which I figured, okay. E2 Gowanda HS Library: a child still has to pass this exam
071to enter. However, it's not really an exam, it's more of a screening, and E2 Gowanda HS Library: who's giving the screening, and how's it being measured, and, leaves a lot open to interpretation, right? So, E2 Gowanda HS Library: I think changing the policy would then create, maybe. E2 Gowanda HS Library: A lot of gray area that doesn't already exist. Yeah. E2 Gowanda HS Library: And they do have, I mean. E2 Gowanda HS Library: not to throw you under the bus, but you used to be in Mommy's grade, and now you're not, so they have the ability to… So that was… that was another point. So, starting preschool. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Attending it, even… E2 Gowanda HS Library: You know, if your child is maybe doing a lot more than other kids their age, once
072you're in kindergarten, first grade, second grade, there's… E2 Gowanda HS Library: and she said they currently do this. If they find a child is kind of more advanced, they'll move them for a temporary amount of time throughout the school day. E2 Gowanda HS Library: with some older… Kids to get… E2 Gowanda HS Library: more experience. So, just because you may not be able to enter kindergarten early does not mean your child won't get E2 Gowanda HS Library: advanced… Learning possibilities in the future. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Alright, that's fair. Good job, Brittany. You captured that beautifully. Yeah! You did good! Very good, thank you. And the principal's gonna reach out to the parent that presents. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Good job. E2 Gowanda HS Library: That's a very good job. Thank you. E2 Gowanda HS
073Library: Alright. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Any other committee reports? E2 Gowanda HS Library: So up next, we have our Board and Administration Roundtable. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Sue, if you wouldn't mind starting us off. E2 Gowanda HS Library: I just know after the last minute you were upset, there was nothing left for you. That is true. Good memory, Max. E2 Gowanda HS Library: I don't know, congrats to the baseball team, that's pretty cool. Undefeated, I did not know they were undefeated. That's… that's really exceptional. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Prom was beautiful, my daughter attended, that was great. I appreciate all the efforts put in for that. The stage was beautiful, and all the things. Too bad the stupid rain. What was the theme this year? It was Old Hollywood. It was kind of classy, and
074my daughter tailored her outfit to that theme. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Anyway, what else do I have? E2 Gowanda HS Library: Mmm… Spring sports. E2 Gowanda HS Library: I don't know, I guess just, we're getting to the end of the school year, and… E2 Gowanda HS Library: I know my kid has, like, a… E2 Gowanda HS Library: junior-senuritis, and, you know, kind of coasting out there, and… but you gotta give it one last push, and we're almost there, so… I feel it. Oh yeah, they're all… and staff, and I've… yeah, I've seen it and heard it, and I get it. I don't know, I guess that's all. That's enough hammering for me. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Congratulations again, Zach, for your re-election. Congratulations to Amy Gurnett. Excited that she'll be in our group. E2 Gowanda
075HS Library: Dave Smith, I mean, what do you say? It's exciting for him, but sad for our district, because he's been here so long and has done so much for our students. Congratulations on your retirement. Super excited for the baseball team to keep going. Congratulations so far, and good luck. E2 Gowanda HS Library: And, can't wait for next month for graduation. It's right around the corner. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Congrats to Wendy Luce, really excited that she's joining her team as the assistant principal. She is… she has big shoes to fill, but, you know, she's up for the task. E2 Gowanda HS Library: We have a lot of end-of-the-year events coming up, so just check your school calendars. I mean, our entire elementary school's at the movie theater on Tuesday. That's the first time we've
076done that, so that's gonna be really fun. We have the art show coming up on June 11th. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Elementary school and middle school both have field days, coming up in June. We have the senior strut, the, there's the awards ceremony on the 8th, we have graduation, I mean, there's, like, June is just jam-packed in all three buildings, so if there's specific events people have questions about, reach out to the building principals, just get those confirmed. E2 Gowanda HS Library: That's it? Yeah, that's all she wrote. I wanted to thank Bob and Ashley for both being off on last Friday, because then I was asked by Ms. Kroll to go to the elementary school a particular something fun. E2 Gowanda HS Library: I got to meet… so it was Steven and JJ, and
077they were very entertaining. She prefaced the day that E2 Gowanda HS Library: It was the lady who handles the money that was coming over. They both had a list of things that they were asking. Oh, jeez! From wipes, apparently the nurse needed wipes, and then they wanted air conditioning, which I told them I was working on that one, and I could help them out with some wipes. But they also did say that they needed additional kids' clothing in the nurse's office, so if anyone has spare clothing that used clothing, lightly, gently leave E2 Gowanda HS Library: used slowly for the elementary school, they did advocate for that, too, but it was a lot of fun, so I'm glad that I got to partake in that, so thank you. Mrs. Cole and Bob and Ashley. I'll
078take all four days. I know, I was so excited, I got asked. E2 Gowanda HS Library: What's done. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Well, I don't have much that. I wish I was here at this work, because I would have rather been in that building than logging mulch, plants, dirt, and all sorts of stuff around my home. I have nothing to say. E2 Gowanda HS Library: I'm the laborer at my house. E2 Gowanda HS Library: I do have in board docs, I do have the mandatory training for, new board members. However. E2 Gowanda HS Library: any board member can get an update on those things if they'd like to attend the mandatory training. I don't know, Zach, you want to go back again, you are welcome to. E2 Gowanda HS Library: And, E2 Gowanda HS Library:
079We do have the Western New York Law Conference on August 5th. If there's any board members that would like to attend that, let me know. E2 Gowanda HS Library: You can definitely do that. E2 Gowanda HS Library: And then what about the Rural Schools Association? E2 Gowanda HS Library: summer conference. Zach, are you… are you gonna do that? Yes. Okay. Did anyone else want to do that? E2 Gowanda HS Library: Nope. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Oh. E2 Gowanda HS Library: That's July 12th through July 14th. It's at Lake Placid. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Oh, come on. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Okay. Alright, so it's Shazam. We'll still be able to ask of her. E2 Gowanda HS Library: onboarding. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Will they ask any? Yes, yes. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Not that I…
080Good thought. E2 Gowanda HS Library: That was it for me. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Just another congratulations to a couple other people, a couple other late women I know that are retiring. Mrs. Terry Reeves, Mrs. Janine Drager, and Mrs. Barb Dempsey. Congratulations to you guys for sticking around this long and retiring. E2 Gowanda HS Library: And then, just one last thing, I think, with the chaperone potential, I was just curious if there was any interest in doing that moving forward for student board members. E2 Gowanda HS Library: If they had wanted to attend some of the municipal events. E2 Gowanda HS Library: If there was a way we could get them a chaperone for that. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Like, if there was a way we could work that in. E2 Gowanda HS Library: In
081the future. E2 Gowanda HS Library: I don't know. E2 Gowanda HS Library: I guess I would be curious if the event is open to student board members? That would be part one. So, some of them probably are, some of them probably aren't, so… Yes. Some of them are, some of them are not. I think the list usually comes out in E2 Gowanda HS Library: early… the beginning of the year, and I believe they're gonna notate which ones there actually are. E2 Gowanda HS Library: I think that's… isn't this something new they're doing? I don't know that we've done this in the past. They… certain districts have, have invited certain… their students. I don't know what… E2 Gowanda HS Library: How older districts are doing? E2 Gowanda HS Library: Is it… the meetings you're asking to
082go to, it's, school boards, Erie? School boards? Yes. I don't think you could… it'd have to be another board member. I could be a board member, but I was thinking of something else. I think if you're going. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Well, selfishly, I don't want to be a chaperone, so… Others are welcome, like, I don't think a teacher is welcome to go to a school board and miss the school board meeting. Well, so I would be curious how other districts are doing it, if they're just sending their board members as the chaperone. I thought there was somebody chaperoning. E2 Gowanda HS Library: But so, again, selfishly, I would… E2 Gowanda HS Library: rather not be that, just because if I go right from work, kind of thing, selfishly, like… E2 Gowanda HS Library: That's
083the beauty of them with senior board members, they can drive themselves. E2 Gowanda HS Library: I'll ask, though. Let me find out what it is. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Cheek pad? E2 Gowanda HS Library: But again, something worth looking into. Yeah. Equitably, I guess, I just didn't know if we'd want to put that responsibility on them, that they would have to drive themselves, I think. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Not to mention the liability of it. Like, I don't think… I don't know, can you drive yourself to a sports event? I don't really know. E2 Gowanda HS Library: I mean, if we get a professional driver, we generally can do that problem. E2 Gowanda HS Library: So that's why I guess I went that route, too. What do you find other districts do it? I'll ask.
084E2 Gowanda HS Library: Thank you. That's all I got. Awesome. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Well, congrats, Zach. It's been great sitting next to you. Looks like you're 3 more years of it. We've done a, fantastic job. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Thanks for the participation in the community involvement. Good luck for the boys tomorrow versus Brockton. What time did you say that was at? 5 o'clock. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Yeah. Also a few other congratulations to Nina Kuhl on it. It was cool to hear the 100 saves. Thank you to humans, Luther for the 100 goals. Those are, really huge milestones. All the track and field success, that sounds fantastic. The, E2 Gowanda HS Library: pole vault, thing was, a great, success. And to the softball, you know, another great season. Addison Kota, you know, great
085career. And, E2 Gowanda HS Library: Good luck in the future. That's all I have. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Yeah, congrats, Zach. Three more years. A little while ago. And, congrats to Amy. E2 Gowanda HS Library: And… Thanks, Mark, for your… E2 Gowanda HS Library: dedication to the board for decades. That's huge. Congrats to Wendy Luce. E2 Gowanda HS Library: That is exciting, I think, E2 Gowanda HS Library: big shoes to fill, but I think, E2 Gowanda HS Library: New face in that position. It's gonna be awesome. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Congrats to everyone in the spring sports, and I hope baseball does take it all the way this year. E2 Gowanda HS Library: I feel like they've done well. Jeez. E2 Gowanda HS Library: every season for several years now, since I've been in school,
086even. So, yeah, hopefully, maybe this year's the year. And then, to add to the list of events happening, coming up. E2 Gowanda HS Library: The PTO is putting on a mental health fair Friday at the elementary school, 6 to 7.30, so I think there's gonna be, like. E2 Gowanda HS Library: A bounce house? E2 Gowanda HS Library: And a bunch of tables, vendors. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Things going on. So, come check that out. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Okay. Wonderful, thank you. So, time of year is always an exciting time of year, busy. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Chaos, right? E2 Gowanda HS Library: A lot of congratulations to go around, it's already been mentioned. Spring sports wrapping up, getting ready for summer, getting ready for next year, it's a lot to, E2 Gowanda HS Library:
087Lots to think about, but… You know, I look forward to… E2 Gowanda HS Library: What the future has to bring, so… Moving straight into our, E2 Gowanda HS Library: parking lot. You know, we're gonna end, retreats, the town hall meeting, we can, look at addressing E2 Gowanda HS Library: And then as other workshops come up that we want to add, let's make sure we… E2 Gowanda HS Library: We'll add a little section where you work the… E2 Gowanda HS Library: You throw rural schools in there, just so I have that reference. Rural schools… Yep, it is, the RSA conference is in… it's up the top. E2 Gowanda HS Library: So, are there… Some dates that need to be updated, then. E2 Gowanda HS Library: There's a lot of things, like, I still have some 2025s,
088and then some of the things, like meet the candidates for May, I can add that to 2027, change the date on those. E2 Gowanda HS Library: So I'll update it. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Are you guys all good with… evaluation stuff. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Or leave that alone. E2 Gowanda HS Library: It's an example. E2 Gowanda HS Library: We will have a conversation. E2 Gowanda HS Library: We'll have those wrapped up and probably put it on the agenda for the next meeting to have our early conversation. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Jesus Alright. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Sure. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Anybody else anything for the parking lot? E2 Gowanda HS Library: Open up. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Take a consideration of motion to recess to Executive Session for the purpose of discussing employment
089history of particular persons and collective negotiations pursuant to Article 14. E2 Gowanda HS Library: would be civil service law. Second. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Favorite Knight. E2 Gowanda HS Library: I can go ahead and shut down over there.
