E2 Gowanda HS Library: Called a meeting to order. E2 Gowanda HS Library: And I pledge to the flag of the United States. E2 Gowanda HS Library: I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. E2 Gowanda HS Library: We went on to accepting the agenda, consideration of motion to accept the agenda. So moved. Second. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Any discussion? E2 Gowanda HS Library: Nope. E2 Gowanda HS Library: All in favor? Aye. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Sorry, I'm just reading up my cheat sheet. E2 Gowanda HS Library: They do. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Board of Education Bylaws, please. E2 Gowanda HS Library: The Board remains committed to providing opportunities for the public to

address the board on items of public interest. With that in mind, the Board wishes to remind the public of its adopted policy, 1510. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Which sets forth reasonable guidelines in terms of ensuring an orderly discussion and exchange of information during public meetings. In exceptional circumstances, the board may, as an entity, decide to provide a written or verbal response to issues or questions during public session. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Any person who wishes to address the board may do so by filling out the appropriate form and handing the form to the Board President. E2 Gowanda HS Library: The board president will call upon the person to speak at the appropriate time, and each such person will be permitted to speak for a time limited to 3 minutes. Please stand in front of the

board table and address the board directly. Under discretion of the board, no more than 3 people will be allowed to address the board. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Edgehold time allowed for public comments is 15 minutes. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Thank you. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Moving on to our calendar. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Our next meeting is Wednesday, February 25th. It's a budget workshop meeting. E2 Gowanda HS Library: at 5.30 here in the high school library. And then our next regular Board of Education meeting will take place on Wednesday, March 11th, at 6.30 in the E2 Gowanda HS Library: school library brochure. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Moving on to approval of Consent agenda items? Considering a motion. E2 Gowanda HS Library: to vote for approval of agenda items 2.01 to 5.04. E2 Gowanda HS Library:

Moving. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Second. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Any discussion? E2 Gowanda HS Library: Nope. E2 Gowanda HS Library: All beer? Aye. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Was there any discussion about any of the… Motions? E2 Gowanda HS Library: Thank you. E2 Gowanda HS Library: I think the only question I had, and this could be totally… E2 Gowanda HS Library: Just ignorance. I saw the resignation letters E2 Gowanda HS Library: For a few of the teachers retiring, which, congrats to them, but… E2 Gowanda HS Library: They mentioned something about being interested in the retirement incentive? What does that mean… further contradict. Oh. E2 Gowanda HS Library: You could explain, I mean, there's a retirement incentive and a retirement… Well, yeah, thank you. So, in the teacher contract, currently, there's a teacher retirement award. So… E2

Gowanda HS Library: When you retire, you earn the award, which is… E2 Gowanda HS Library: some money of, times that we use it, it affects service, some sick day payback, so it's just whatever you have left. The setup's a little different, it's probably a little more lucrative, it's still in the contract. That's designed naturally to get those people who are first-time eligible. E2 Gowanda HS Library: To retire at that point. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Gotcha. Thought there is that their highest employees want them not to linger. E2 Gowanda HS Library: So that's the difference. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Some of these folks here may, depending on when they've chosen to hire, may be only eligible… can only be eligible for either a reward or incentive. E2 Gowanda HS Library: I'm not really sure where he

changes as far as the wars and the setup, but… Something pointing. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Useful, maybe we haven't… Talk about it. E2 Gowanda HS Library: errors. E2 Gowanda HS Library: With the breakage we get on retirees and what we're… How, how it impacts… E2 Gowanda HS Library: They retire this year, Howard, and they get an award. Why, why we're doing it? E2 Gowanda HS Library: How it pays out over… Recently. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Any other discussion? E2 Gowanda HS Library: Good to move on to… Public discussion and comment on the agenda. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Oh, I'm sorry, I'm sorry. Yeah, we're having a public discussion. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Alright, so moving on to public discussion, comment on non-agenda items. Nobody here? E2 Gowanda HS Library: And moving on to our superintendent's

report. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Alright, thank you, sir. Good evening, everybody, and happy Wednesday. For your agenda tonight, I want to thank a few folks for some really generous donations. Wanda Boosters. E2 Gowanda HS Library: and Sportsman Federation of Cat County, much appreciated for supporting our students. Congratulations, Emily, Mangio, earned tenure, again, in our district. She, left us. E2 Gowanda HS Library: For other places, came back? E2 Gowanda HS Library: continuing to get her position as a speech pack. Congratulations to her. And then, 3 retirements the board accepts tonight. Really, obviously really long-term, exceptional employees who we greatly missed. Barb Dempsey, she's been around for a long time. She's a wonderful lady, great teacher, she'd be definitely missed, and E2 Gowanda HS Library: Irreplaceable. Beth Robleys, long-term math teacher in the middle school, since I've

been here. We'll miss Beth and her service. And Terry Reeves, really exceptional school psychologist, exceptional school employee, E2 Gowanda HS Library: really difficult to replace all three of them. School sites in particular. So, congratulations, I always kind of want to throw the retirement letters away, because I don't want to retire, but, that seems selfish, so I wish them the best, thank them for all they've done, and, E2 Gowanda HS Library: Hopefully they return to visit. Couple sports news coming up, Gawanda Girls Bowling Team won the, E2 Gowanda HS Library: Chautauquater August Athletic Association Division III title. E2 Gowanda HS Library: kudos to the ladies. The next board meeting up some more updates. Right now, we're finishing up on E2 Gowanda HS Library: winter sports seasons, we're getting into playoffs, qualifiers, stuff like that. So hopefully

some more exciting news, after that. Some announcements. We are on our winter break, believe it or not, next week as the district. Monday, February 16th, the district is closed for observance of Presence Day. E2 Gowanda HS Library: And students are off all next week, returning on Monday, February 23rd. I do want to continue in mind about winter weather, dress appropriately, we'll wait for buses, walking to school, so on and so forth. Unfortunately, we can't close school every time it gets cold, so again, we said we, you know, we'll be back to school for the summer around here, so please dress appropriately. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Couple weekends ago, I had the opportunity to see the high school play Knack Knack. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Love the performance, great. I'm always, always impressed for our student,

That's good. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Update on the Empire State Winter Games. The Torchery Roulette came through on January 30th. Thanks, Mr. Boland, for organizing, facilitating that. Cool day. You can see all the things on, Facebook and, our website about that. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Some capital project updates for you at the pool, never-ending saga. It is moving. E2 Gowanda HS Library: It's on schedule, as promised. Right now, the contractors do now, they're putting the mud, the scratch on the wall. We're smooth that all out. It's pretty amazing, actually. Pretty labor-intensive. E2 Gowanda HS Library: But that unit that was going to be installed on the roof is here, it's installed. Oh, so that's good. So everything is going… as planned so far. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Yeah, I didn't say anything, but it looks

like it should… E2 Gowanda HS Library: Yes. Alright, I'll be fine. Speaking of capital project, the voter-approved 2025 capital project, we're involved pretty in-depth now with user group design meetings. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Looking at the new space, like the elementary library, the auditorium, the fields. We're involved with architects and other people, and people are going to be using those spaces to at least give some ideas what those spaces look like. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Like, so we're engaged in that process right now. E2 Gowanda HS Library: If you tune in at the 5.30 and 6 o'clock, presentation and workshop. E2 Gowanda HS Library: The executive budget proposal was released in January. E2 Gowanda HS Library: No modifications to the zero-emission vehicle mandate. E2 Gowanda HS Library: In the executive budget, Wanda was, Wanda Foundation

Aid formula, looking at a 1.93% increase in Foundation Aid for next year. E2 Gowanda HS Library: modest, but, you know, 68% of school districts in western New York got, or, excuse me, in the state got 1% of the minimum, so… E2 Gowanda HS Library: In Foundation Formula runs 5 different factors, this district being E2 Gowanda HS Library: described as property poor and have a high need of student needs, generally generates additional aid for those purposes. E2 Gowanda HS Library: That's cool. Can I watch them? E2 Gowanda HS Library: Oh, one other… Side point, I asked the board, Erie 2 BOCES is doing their own capital project. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Which makes sense, that's the same issues as we do across all their campuses. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Of course, we send many of our

students today their programs. E2 Gowanda HS Library: They have to fund… E2 Gowanda HS Library: they can't let us go out and borrow money, necessarily, so we can have to be charged… be charged to component districts. So in May, this board will get a resolution E2 Gowanda HS Library: Yes or no to approve? E2 Gowanda HS Library: Their capital project, and then the subsequent capital charges. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Which are aidable, like everything else. E2 Gowanda HS Library: I'm comfortable, I can probably do the presentation about what they're supposed to do and talk about the finances, but it's their project, and they'd be willing to come and spend some time, talking to the board. E2 Gowanda HS Library: the issue for them, and it's really against their issue. E2 Gowanda HS Library: they can't

go out and do that until after their board approves on March 18th, and then that resolution has to be E2 Gowanda HS Library: moved in May. So they have a short window of time to get 27 in Capone District. So, if you're interested, I'll reach out to them, and they can figure out a schedule to do that. If you're fine with me doing it, Barb doing it, it's fine too. E2 Gowanda HS Library: I have no skin in the game either way, necessarily, so whatever you wish to do, I'll convey the message. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Is it 100% hateable? E2 Gowanda HS Library: We have our age ratios, like, 87% or 83%? E2 Gowanda HS Library: It's… Pretty costing. E2 Gowanda HS Library: We have to vote on it April 28th, I believe. So

their presentation… No, no, no, no. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Separate. E2 Gowanda HS Library: It's not their budget, it's not on their budget list. Yeah, it's not the administrative… Oh, okay. That has nothing to do with that, it's a capital project. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Any other… Comments? E2 Gowanda HS Library: What would you want to do? You want me to do it, or do you want them to do it? I don't care either. Yeah, it doesn't matter. I mean, if they have the time to come in, if not… Sure. If it's, create a lot of conflict with things, then… E2 Gowanda HS Library: I reach out, invite them, they can do the… they can promote their stuff, or… E2 Gowanda HS Library: A strong feeling for it either way. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Regionalization,

I just want to give a couple quick updates about last year before the state, a couple budget cycles ago, talked about regionalization, like the state that did, and really want to get it to encourage districts to share services and kind of talk about, you know. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Instead of… E2 Gowanda HS Library: replicating the same stuff every district, how can we share? And I think Erie 2 BOCES, West Sharon Generals, people have a history of sharing things, not really uncommon for us. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Although another side of the state, kind of people got really upset about it, although it's not mandated to do it, it's just kind of curious. But anyway, I've been involved with the superintendents, Erie 2 superintendents working on scheduling issues, you know, where we get common bell

times. E2 Gowanda HS Library: which is a little challenging, because everybody's have different contracts, and then geography is a little barrier, actually, because when we have to transfer to our BOC sites and vice versa, our schedules don't match up well. We'll try again to find where we can share schedules. E2 Gowanda HS Library: DL, teachers, and even professional development schedules. Like, we share Superintendents' conference days. For example, this coming November, we're gonna have a national speaker come here to talk about literacy. E2 Gowanda HS Library: But, we're gonna try to share that with our colleagues, so they're doing the same thing we are, you know, it costs us X number of dollars per day, why not we all share with our names if we can? So, just those are some examples of what we're involved

in right now. E2 Gowanda HS Library: I don't think they're earth-shaking ideas, I knew, but… Okay, question. We hear about teacher shortages. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Oh my god. E2 Gowanda HS Library: have the opportunity to do more of the distance learning with some of the smaller districts around us. I mean, we have a full complement E2 Gowanda HS Library: We're lifting. E2 Gowanda HS Library: everything I'm not sure that all of them do. E2 Gowanda HS Library: No, they don't. So yes, to answer your question. It comes down to… Bell schedules, and contracts. E2 Gowanda HS Library: If you're within 5 minutes or so of the start or end period, it's pretty doable, but when you start E2 Gowanda HS Library: Drifting from that, that becomes a little more challenging. E2 Gowanda HS Library:

And then… E2 Gowanda HS Library: are the schools that we match up best with Belsa, do they need our physics teacher? I don't know, you know, so that gets in that ballgame. E2 Gowanda HS Library: But yeah, people are exploring that option, I mean, why not? E2 Gowanda HS Library: And Mr. Izzard, our physics teacher, English teacher, we shared hippopotamic knowledge once a time. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Any teaching at all. He's been a good dude. E2 Gowanda HS Library: And then… I think that's it. E2 Gowanda HS Library: For me, anyways, yes, good questions, so… That's… that's a point. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Good. E2 Gowanda HS Library: The public's not necessarily aware of. E2 Gowanda HS Library: As we come up to budget time, then… E2 Gowanda HS Library: Yeah, we're trying to

reduce costs by sharing services and… E2 Gowanda HS Library: In these types of areas, I mean, that's the type of thing the public likes to hear. E2 Gowanda HS Library: focus. E2 Gowanda HS Library: We'll get some concrete things that come up well for right now, for example, I know we'll be probably sharing with… I mean, it's small. E2 Gowanda HS Library: at Professional Development Day in November, we have a national speaker company, and there's a fee per the day. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Probably have an intermunicipal contract, but while our coaches are through BOCES, E2 Gowanda HS Library: We do something, we'll share the cost, so it's not gonna be that cost for us, we'll share one. E2 Gowanda HS Library: I didn't know about this. And now I do. Okay! E2 Gowanda HS

Library: -Oh. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Would there be any… E2 Gowanda HS Library: Any opportunity? Like, what would need to happen to actually force the change of contracts and bell schedules? E2 Gowanda HS Library: What would help that process along. E2 Gowanda HS Library: I don't know. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Is there other unique districts? I don't know. E2 Gowanda HS Library: I mean, right now, people are… this isn't a new thing, people asked for it. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Spreadsheet, people just actually looking Compile information, see what we can do. E2 Gowanda HS Library: match. But the districts, to modify their contracts or schedules. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Probably's not gonna happen, because they get their own unique circumstances. E2 Gowanda HS Library: It has to. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Bye, bye. E2 Gowanda

HS Library: No, bye. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Can't gotten to say it in public, so… E2 Gowanda HS Library: You know, Thank you. Thanks, sir. Thank you, everybody. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Moving on to his… Oh, oh, Stevens. E2 Gowanda HS Library: I think it goes up to your standing department, right? E2 Gowanda HS Library: Alright, moving on to the state of our departments. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Yes. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Well, tonight we have our series, State of the Department. E2 Gowanda HS Library: departments, and a couple of our departments called shared some of their highlights from their E2 Gowanda HS Library: their departments in their areas. It's getting late. E2 Gowanda HS Library: And… E2 Gowanda HS Library: You know, we'd like to stay in the buildings, we've been doing this at

least two years, give people an opportunity to showcase what's going on in their areas, have an opportunity to interact with the board, ask some questions, just so you know you're gonna hear from folks. E2 Gowanda HS Library: So, first up tonight, I think, is our state of transportation. Our transportation supervisor. She's been eager to do this now for a very long time. She paid me to let her go first. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Let's half my paycheck. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Yes. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Makes it easier. I'm gonna give Annette kudos, because she does have one of the hardest jobs in the district, along with Rich, so I certainly would want to be in charge of the bus drivers, and the buses, and the snow, and the cold, and everything else, and dealing

with a lot of apples up in the air, so kudos to Annette, and… E2 Gowanda HS Library: Take it away, Annette. We want to get warmed up, let me add. They do it safely, they do it professionally, and… E2 Gowanda HS Library: If you were down in her office, see the amount of things that happen on a daily basis. You have aluminum buses, drivers, just a lot of needs. E2 Gowanda HS Library: You guys think of all the district besides getting kids to and from school every day. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Sports runs, the field trip runs, just a lot goes down there at the jungle, so kudos. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Piggyback on what Mark said, nice job to you and your folks. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Much appreciated, much appreciated. So, what we're

most proud of E2 Gowanda HS Library: that we are doing well is that we've made it through some really tough weather conditions. I'm calling Doc on the phone, going, I don't know what you think, but this is what I'm seeing. So, between the two of us, we kind of chit-chat about it. E2 Gowanda HS Library: And then he hems and haws. Yeah, mostly hems and haws. You know, and he thinks about it, and he talks to all his buddies, and… you know, I don't know. Alright, let's go. E2 Gowanda HS Library: So I'm like, okay, finally, now I can go back to the bus garage and close everything up and shut everything down, let everybody know we're closed. So it is a little bit of a challenge for me out there, plowing snow out in

Perrysburg. So, you know, it's not even so bad there as it is in Cottage. Anyway… E2 Gowanda HS Library: I don't mind doing it, I want to make sure that the roads are going to be good for my drivers. I don't want them out there any more than you would want your kids out there, so I want to make sure everybody's going to be safe. So I get out there and I get it done. E2 Gowanda HS Library: We strive to keep our fleets up to the highest level of safety, cleanliness, and the comfort for the staff and the students. And yes, we do turn on the heat. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Maintaining a positive work environment that's a value… values the well-being of our team. We… E2 Gowanda HS Library: Because it's such a

difficult job, because of what they do, They're put in positions E2 Gowanda HS Library: Sometimes, you know, they get a little aggressive with each other, a little angry with each other, and mostly at me, and I have to try to diffuse that as best they can. So we try to keep things going, we try to keep things intact, we try to keep, well-being for each of us in that environment. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Kudos. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Okay. E2 Gowanda HS Library: This is some things that people don't all know. We have 1,420 students that are in the transportation area in the school district, okay? 16 regular drivers that transport them, 6 substitutes. E2 Gowanda HS Library: 3 monitors, And 3 mechanics. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Then there's me, and we're all subs. E2

Gowanda HS Library: So, if I'm not out, which I was this morning, I'm not out, mechanics are out, or we're all out. That makes it very challenging. Very, very challenging when I'm out on the road in the morning, the phone's ringing, and nobody's there to answer it. E2 Gowanda HS Library: It happens. E2 Gowanda HS Library: But it's gotta be done. We can't just say, oh, we'll do it later, we'll postpone it, we'll do it later. It doesn't work that way. They're here, we gotta get them home. E2 Gowanda HS Library: They are coming in because we're having school. We gotta do it. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Hay? Any questions on that? E2 Gowanda HS Library: So again, like I said, the mechanics are doing it. They're doing their jobs, plus their driver, plus their

monitor. I'm a driver, I'm a monitor. We're drivers, number one. Everything else is on the backboard. E2 Gowanda HS Library: King? E2 Gowanda HS Library: These are the bus routes that we have, and we don't do everything. E2 Gowanda HS Library: The contractors do some of it, too, okay? E2 Gowanda HS Library: We have 24 vehicles in the fleet, we have 19 full-size buses, 2 small buses, 2 wheelchair buses, and 1 minivan. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Out of the… over the district, we cover 96 square miles. E2 Gowanda HS Library: In the district, we use… we do 11 daily runs with 4 trips, 2 in the morning and 2 in the afternoon, okay? We have one special needs run that runs around in district, and that's, again, 4 times a day. E2 Gowanda HS Library:

I have out-of-district stuff that goes to, BOCES Carrier Center in Angola. That takes 3 trips a day. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Mckinney-ventos, I have a couple out of districts that, at this point, they need us to go get them and bring them in. E2 Gowanda HS Library: homeless students. So, the way the law works is we have to transport 50 miles away. Within 50 miles, yes. So, unfortunately, something terrible happens to a family here in Wanda. E2 Gowanda HS Library: their new house is in Salamanca. It could go to Salamanca, but that first choice is made here in the school, our district, we'd be responsible for transport. E2 Gowanda HS Library: transport them. Sometimes I think about sharing resources, maybe give you some examples where, you know, we have all these districts going back and

forth, and piggyback customer rights to share those, but it's, it's big. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Yeah, but that idea wants to keep families, students stable by keeping them in their school. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Yep. A little bit of, normalcy for him. E2 Gowanda HS Library: So anyway, we have those that we deal with and that we're taking back and forth. We also have a BOCES run, to North Collins that we do. That's 2 trips a day, so we pick her up and we take her there, and we pick her up and bring her home. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Along with that, that is also connected to another McKinney-Vento right now that we have, and it also does some of the SPED department, transportation for the elementary school. So that one's kind of

busy. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Randolph Academy does the same thing. It's got back and forth to Randolph, and that's two times a day, 2 trips a day, but it also does, in-district. E2 Gowanda HS Library: SPED also, okay? So there's a few that have to get, and the timing works, and boy, am I really good at that. That'll fit in there. Okay, and LaGuitis… the La Guidis run to the CTE also is 3 trips a day, so he goes out, back, out, and back, 3 times a day. Alright? Any questions on those? E2 Gowanda HS Library: Those are all done with our staff and our buses, right? Correct. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Alright, so this is all the contracted transportation. There's 28 students that were… are contracted out on buses to go out of the

district. E2 Gowanda HS Library: They don't do any of the in-district stuff, we do all of that, alright? So we go to Springville P-Tech, we go to Dunkirk P-Tech. E2 Gowanda HS Library: We go to Baker Hall in Lackawanna. We go to St. Mary's School for the Deaf. Again, McKinney-Ventos that are out of district. We have two Bo… or Erie 2 BOCES in Fredonia Sped Run. E2 Gowanda HS Library: We have, Area 2 BOCES Baker Road Run. Maple Avenue, also goes with, the Dunkirk P-TECH together. E2 Gowanda HS Library: And New York State School for the Blind in Batavia, that one is actually only twice a week. We take the students out on Monday, and they stay all week, and we bring them home on Friday, or I should say they do. E2 Gowanda HS

Library: The Summit Center in Buffalo is also a student that we take out there every day. E2 Gowanda HS Library: CNA Falk, I've got 3 Falk schools that we go to, and again, these are mixed together, so they all work. E2 Gowanda HS Library: So, it's not just one school at a time, I put things together so that they meet timing, and they meet distance. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Alright, any questions on that? E2 Gowanda HS Library: kind of confusing, isn't it? This is kind of one of the biggest fluctuations that, when I try to budget transportation, it is very hard to budget for, E2 Gowanda HS Library: the one year, we were short, like, $800,000, like, we were overspent right after COVID. Because the kids came back, and then we had to find them

placements, and you could see by the places that we go. E2 Gowanda HS Library: I mean, it's literally all over the place, and then the cost of the transportation per day went from… used to be around $550, and there's routes that are over $800 a day now. So it's just… it's really hard to budget for this one. E2 Gowanda HS Library: And then I always have to talk to Janine, and say, Janine, why can't we get more kids in one location instead of kind of going all over the place? So, but we're always trying to do the best for the kids, so we try to match them best with the placements, but that's kind of some of the snack drop behind. E2 Gowanda HS Library: kind of all with… when you look at the budget,

this is kind of what's driving that. So for the contracted transportation, we pay for that as well? Yes. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Do we get… We get the same aid back. Okay. E2 Gowanda HS Library: What does the collaboration look like with other districts on that? E2 Gowanda HS Library: Like, in England. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Like, how do you collaborate that with other districts? E2 Gowanda HS Library: As far as what they do versus what I do, at this point, I don't have any shared services, we don't piggyback anything at this point. We have on our runs before, yeah, on our internal runs, going to some of the BOCES, we've worked with other businesses, these… E2 Gowanda HS Library: These are different kinds of situations, generally speaking. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Where the in-district

runs to both, you start here and end here, so if we're going through someplace that we can pick up a kid, or vice versa, if someone's unable to kind of pick up our kids someplace, but these ones we have typically not been able to… E2 Gowanda HS Library: It's mostly McKinney-Vinto's that seems to work best on. If they're already coming in this direction. E2 Gowanda HS Library: You know, and they can drop them off on the way through. We've only had a few issues, or incidences, where we've been able to do that. E2 Gowanda HS Library: A lot of times, it's spell times. Timing doesn't work. E2 Gowanda HS Library: From when they pick it up in their district, or their… E2 Gowanda HS Library: Gotta be in the other district, and they're not going

through, or whatever the case may be. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Alright, anything else? E2 Gowanda HS Library: Me? E2 Gowanda HS Library: Okay? E2 Gowanda HS Library: Come on, there you go. E2 Gowanda HS Library: This is the mileage for extracurricular activities. Regular home to school every day were 200,000 plus miles a day, or a year, I should say. Summer school, we did 22,000 miles this year, so we had a lot of, E2 Gowanda HS Library: A lot of kids that were really interested and came and went, and that was awesome. Supporting our athletes and transportation for away games and so on. E2 Gowanda HS Library: It's over 15,000 miles… or, yeah, 15,000 miles. E2 Gowanda HS Library: And educational trips, including, field trips, musical events, and so on. 7,000, over 7,000 miles we did

this year. So, in total, we're driving. E2 Gowanda HS Library: 284,018 miles. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Okay? E2 Gowanda HS Library: Any questions on that? Does that make sense? E2 Gowanda HS Library: Thank God it's not just me doing it all. Okay, we've had two new drivers join, join our team this year, that was really nice, to have a couple of new ones. And unfortunately, we've lost a couple as well. E2 Gowanda HS Library: But we are proud of ever-improving communications between this department and other departments, and we're responsive. E2 Gowanda HS Library: To… and al- E2 Gowanda HS Library: alternatives when supporting the needs of our students, and we are extremely proud of our staff and their, continued dedication to their jobs and their students and the safety while they're out there on the

road every day. It's not an easy job. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Put 66 of them in there, and we call it the tin can, and it's very loud. E2 Gowanda HS Library: So, I give them all the credit in the world that they can take it. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Alright. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Looking into possibilities of our electric buses and the pilot program, and what that means for the district, so that's going to be an interesting endeavor for us all to get into, and continuously improving driver training and safety protocols. E2 Gowanda HS Library: And our community compliance with the industry safe… E2 Gowanda HS Library: Commitment and compliance with industry state. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Things that we're looking forward to is continued cooperation with parents, students, and staff, understanding the job

we do and how important it is for us to do it, and an excellent safety record with low X in the E2 Gowanda HS Library: Sorry, I'm losing my voice. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Any other questions? E2 Gowanda HS Library: Yes? E2 Gowanda HS Library: Do we still do trading in-house? Yes, I do. Yep. E2 Gowanda HS Library: As far as getting a driver trained, that I send out. But when it comes to the classroom training and that going forward, that's all me. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Okay? But as far as getting their permits, they're on their own there. When they're ready with their permits, then I send them out, and that usually doesn't take very long. E2 Gowanda HS Library: But it takes me longer. E2 Gowanda HS Library: with just trying to shift

the times and whatnot, so it's easier, and it's more cost-effective for me to send it out, and then we get the return faster. Does that make sense? That's why I just can't do it all. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Okay, as far as the classroom training and whatnot, and even sometimes road training, I do that as well. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Alright, any other questions? E2 Gowanda HS Library: Thank you. Thank you very much. Oh, you're welcome. Thank you, I appreciate it. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Yes, sir. Yep. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Thank you. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Beautiful. E2 Gowanda HS Library: No, we got another one, we got a whole bunch of good stuff. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Alright, Janine! Janine! Here she goes! JJ! Are you still picking on her about her curls?

E2 Gowanda HS Library: No, I love her curls. I know she bought the wrong hair gel. I did. Yeah, that's why she's got curls, though. E2 Gowanda HS Library: I love it. We love it, though. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Alright, so, State of Special Education. E2 Gowanda HS Library: So here, is our enrollment numbers. This was as of a couple weeks ago. It fluctuates pretty much every day. This is by building, by grade level. So, CPSC is our preschoolers. E2 Gowanda HS Library: And then we have the number of students identified by building, and our out-of-district placements, which are some of those things Annette was just talking about. That number in the parentheses is how much that group of students increased E2 Gowanda HS Library: classified from this time last year when I did a

presentation. So one of the differences you'll see is a decrease at the middle school, an increase at the high school. That's because we had a large cohort of students that went from 8th to 9th grade. E2 Gowanda HS Library: The one I did really want to point out was two things. The elementary school, part of the decrease there is over the past two years, we've needed students who only need speech services. E2 Gowanda HS Library: from having an IEP to having a 504 plan instead, it gives us greater flexibility to kind of get them in and get them out. And typically, there's not a long-lasting disability, it's a temporary disability, and so we can serve E2 Gowanda HS Library: 504 plan instead. But that does have some of the decrease. E2 Gowanda HS Library: The

other thing I wanted to point out was the preschool numbers. So, again, that is just students ages 3 and 4. So right now, students that will be in kindergarten next year, there are 30 students that currently have an IEP in the preschool level, which is, I would say, quite a high number. E2 Gowanda HS Library: And what I wanted to share with the board is, at this school level, K-12, if a student is referred for special education services, you know, I run those meetings, we do the evaluations. E2 Gowanda HS Library: State Ed does not have specific guidelines on whether or not a student qualifies. It's not like, hey, they scored X, Y, and Z on a standardized academic assessment, they qualified, or they didn't, they don't. It's us making that decision as a collaborative

team. So… E2 Gowanda HS Library: you could argue that there's gonna be some bias, right? How Gawanda makes a decision versus how E2 Gowanda HS Library: Frontier makes a decision versus Silver Creek, there's probably gonna be a little nuance for some students. E2 Gowanda HS Library: At the preschool level, however, there are strict guidelines. E2 Gowanda HS Library: So at the preschool level, we run the meetings. Our school psychologist, Terry, is the one that runs our preschool ones. E2 Gowanda HS Library: But the evaluations are done by agencies in the area. So the main two are… E2 Gowanda HS Library: the Children's League and Buffalo Hearing and Speech. So these agencies work with every district in the area. So when they are making recommendations. E2 Gowanda HS Library: it's consistent. You know, they're not saying,

oh, this is a Gawanda kid, they're gonna qualify or not qualify, and this kid lives in Springville, they're gonna qualify or not. They are the same evaluators working with numerous districts. E2 Gowanda HS Library: And using the same criteria, and the specific criteria of how delayed a student has to be on, the standardized assessments that are given. So, to me, I'm always like, this is a real equalizer of what the level of need is, because it's… there's not really bias in this. It is standard across the region. And so, to me, that is… E2 Gowanda HS Library: pretty significant amount of need that we have. Now, not all of 30 of those students will need services once they enter kindergarten, and a large number of them are receiving, therapy only, so, like, speech or OT,

but it is probably the biggest number I've ever had. E2 Gowanda HS Library: And of those, 10 of those students are currently in a self-contained setting, meaning they are in a full-day program that is either a 611, 811, or a 12-1-1 in a program at Buffalo Hearing and Speech or the Children's League. So these are students that already have very significant needs. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Most of them, but not all, have developmental disabilities that were identified probably at infancy. They received services in EI. Some of these students also are… don't have developmental disabilities, but are having delays in several areas that are significant enough that they require a special education placement E2 Gowanda HS Library: As a preschooler. E2 Gowanda HS Library: So there's something to be aware of. E2 Gowanda HS Library: So

next, just what our continuum of services is. So, not really any changes here from last year. We continue to have integrated co-teaching, K-6. We have a variety of different special classes throughout the district. We have some that are for students with developmental disabilities. We have some that are students with academic needs and or behavioral needs. We have some that are credit-bearing. E2 Gowanda HS Library: We customize those classes every year based on the needs of our Gowanda students. So, I like to give the example that a few years ago, I had a student transfer from here to Frontier, which is… E2 Gowanda HS Library: much bigger than us. And their director called me up and was like, which program do you think would be appropriate? We have this 811, and we have this 811, and

we have this 811, and we have this 811, and I was like, you have 4 811s, and each… E2 Gowanda HS Library: met the needs of different students. We do not have that. We look at our students each year, we look for similarity of need, and then we build our programs based on the needs of our students. It would be lovely to have that much variety of choice, but when you're talking a small population, a small number of students. E2 Gowanda HS Library: You know, we aren't able to do that. E2 Gowanda HS Library: So, the outcome data. So, special education is under two different laws, so we're under IDA, which is the federal law, so we report out on, outcomes there. E2 Gowanda HS Library: best data has not been updated yet, so this

is the same data I showed with you last year that's always on a big lag, and they haven't released it yet this year, which is that we met our goal for most of the areas. E2 Gowanda HS Library: The area that we didn't meet was least restrictive environment, which is how much time kids are in a general education setting. And we just barely didn't meet dropout. So, on the least restrictive environment, that is an area we… E2 Gowanda HS Library: I have later on that we did a targeted support plan for. We did that last year and analyzed our students. We get rated on a few areas. How many students are out of district, which we can find on. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Also, how many students are spending the majority of their time in

a general education placement, so with their gen ed peers? E2 Gowanda HS Library: That one, we didn't meet a couple years ago, but based on the data that I know will show eventually, because it's Beth's Day data, we are very close to what their goal is, like, within, like, a percentage point. The area that we do struggle is students who spend a majority of their time in a special class setting. E2 Gowanda HS Library: So, that one, we're not close to the goal, I'll be… E2 Gowanda HS Library: Quite frank. But I've gone through every single kid that falls into that category. In order for us to meet the state ed goal. E2 Gowanda HS Library: The only students who could be in a special class would be students with developmental disabilities, or students with

severe behavioral needs that require, you know, that there's been safety needs, so there's been aggressive behaviors, that level of, when I say severe behavior, that level. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Every single student that is in a self-contained class for significant academic needs or more moderate behavioral needs with academic needs would all need to be in a gen ed class in order for us to meet that state goal. And that is not E2 Gowanda HS Library: really how special education should be. There's no district where the only kids being serviced in special class are developmentally disabled. E2 Gowanda HS Library: So, that is a goal, what I basically shared with our trainer, that this is our dad, and she's like, yeah, I mean. E2 Gowanda HS Library: She's like, there's not much you can do there,

so she said she would share that out with State Ed, like, this is the needs of the population here. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Sir? E2 Gowanda HS Library: Where are you going? The least dis… E2 Gowanda HS Library: What was that? Second to last? Restrictive environment. Yeah, what would that be? So, the least restrictive environment is considered any time special education students are with their general education. E2 Gowanda HS Library: So if a kid is in our integrated co-teaching class, that is a general education placement. That counts as the least restrictive environment. When that student goes to speech, they're now in a specialized setting, because they're in a setting that's really the speech. E2 Gowanda HS Library: So if a student is in a self-contained class, that is a class where E2 Gowanda HS Library:

the kids in the class all have special education needs, they all have an IEP, so that is not the least restrictive environment. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Does content matter? E2 Gowanda HS Library: like, the discipline that's being taught at that time would make a difference on which E2 Gowanda HS Library: Yeah, so the elementary school is heavily reading, writing, and math, with a little bit of science and social studies thrown in, so there's not as much mixture at the elementary school, but at the middle school and high school, I have students that maybe are self-contained for English, and they're out for math, science, and social studies. Or maybe they're self-contained for math. E2 Gowanda HS Library: And they're out for the other three. I have the number of students that it's mixed, and it is

much easier to do that at the secondary level, because it's more content-focused, and also because it's period by period, and we build it that way, so students can be partially in and partially out. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Does that fall in, like, into the high school level when there's electives? Yeah, yeah, so our high school doesn't actually have that many self-contained classes, because students are able to take different electives, so we do have some for, E2 Gowanda HS Library: you know, 9th grade, we have the most. We have a self-contained class in all four content areas. E2 Gowanda HS Library: In 10th grade, we only have it in 3, because typically the students take Personal Finance or Tech Math as their second math credit, which isn't quite as rigorous and challenging as algebra had been

the year before. Then, junior year, it goes down E2 Gowanda HS Library: Again, we usually have students seek elective science their junior year, and then their senior year, we currently don't have any self-contained classes for our seniors. So, generally, they kind of mature a lot, they pick electives that are a little more, a little… E2 Gowanda HS Library: More manageable for them, so it's typically why we're able to E2 Gowanda HS Library: So this is the other thing, other area our district is rated on, which is our ESSA data, which is based on state testing data. E2 Gowanda HS Library: So, this is the most recent, this came out in the fall, so it shows what our levels were rated. So that is comparing the performance of students with disabilities compared to other students with

disabilities across the state. E2 Gowanda HS Library: And the number in, like, the reference in parentheses is how our building is compared to other buildings across the state. So generally speaking, our special education students E2 Gowanda HS Library: relative to other special education students in New York are performing at about the same relative level as our students on a whole are comparing to students on a whole throughout the state. So we're not really seeing that much of a difference. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Alright, so just some recent accomplishments. Last year, we were up to 78% of parent or guardian attendance at our meetings, so we always try and really encourage our families to participate. I think that's a pretty strong number. E2 Gowanda HS Library: We ought to continue to be fully staffed. We had

a couple years there where we weren't fully staffed, so right now, we're doing great. E2 Gowanda HS Library: We continue to have a high number of our teaching assistants and aides that reside in Gawanda. I always like to point that out, because when a student does go out of district, E2 Gowanda HS Library: those are basically also sending jobs out of district. If we're able to keep students in district and hire a TA rather than send them out of district, odds are we're going to be hiring a Gawanda resident. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Only 2% of our students are E2 Gowanda HS Library: And outages of placements, and we have had an overall decrease in our classification rate. If you go by percentage, it's like a 10% decrease over the past couple years. Part of

that is because of moving students to a 504 plan for speech, but we also have had students who really struggled, and now that, E2 Gowanda HS Library: you know, maybe they were classified around COVID time or after COVID that have made growth and have been declassified. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Okay, so our current focus, I talked a little bit about the LRE one already. We were also identified for having too many students taking the alternative assessment, which is students with severe developmental disabilities. E2 Gowanda HS Library: that don't participate in traditional testing. If we had had one less student that was identified for alternative assessment, we wouldn't be identified, so it wasn't a big number there. E2 Gowanda HS Library: And then the other thing is just our department is a relatively newer department. 48%

of our teachers have been with the district less than 4 years. If you guys remember back in E2 Gowanda HS Library: this summer. E2 Gowanda HS Library: we hired 6 special education teachers, one of which had graduated in May, and one had one year of experience. So, that isn't to say this is a good thing or a bad thing, because new teachers bring E2 Gowanda HS Library: They're all doing great. They're all doing great. But obviously, also, when you lose veteran knowledge, that has an impact too, so there are certainly pros and cons. It's just something to point out. E2 Gowanda HS Library: So… I think that's everything. Questions? E2 Gowanda HS Library: Yes, column. E2 Gowanda HS Library: In some ways, we have a relatively new board. E2 Gowanda HS Library: If they so

desire, could they reach out to you to… Are they kidding. E2 Gowanda HS Library: more in-depth. E2 Gowanda HS Library: idea of what special ed actually does or is. Sure. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Each report, we approve everybody? Yep. E2 Gowanda HS Library: The reason that you mentioned it is when I first started on the board, I spent… like a… E2 Gowanda HS Library: half a morning with this director of special ed at the time. E2 Gowanda HS Library: So I could understand what was going on in special ed, and it's worthwhile. E2 Gowanda HS Library: The world is… their world is full of agronom It is. It is indeed. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Alright, yeah, absolutely, anyone that's interested, I would have to say. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Is there any… and this obviously

isn't something you have to produce tonight, but is there some way in the future we can give projection data for those students that are involved in that program? E2 Gowanda HS Library: Like, after… after the 12th… E2 Gowanda HS Library: Oh, like the outcomes for where they go after high school? Correct. Yeah, we could do that. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Sweet. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Nice job. E2 Gowanda HS Library: And next up, last but certainly not least, is Mr. Rich Smith, our, Facilities Director. E2 Gowanda HS Library: I gotta figure out how to get there early. E2 Gowanda HS Library: You actually called me. I'm going first, so… She asked me 3 times while she was sitting here. E2 Gowanda HS Library: She does get up early, I have to give her that one.

Yeah, that's true. True, true. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Before I start, just a little bit about my department. There is someone new here. My name's Rich Smith. E2 Gowanda HS Library: I work with Ross. Oh, well, better or worse. I'm sorry, no. Sometimes, yes. So, my department is comprised of, we have one groundskeeper. E2 Gowanda HS Library: for… I believe it… But it's 64 acres is what we take care of. E2 Gowanda HS Library: We have two mechanics and one maintenance worker. He actually works inside and out, so in the spring, we had added this position 2 years ago, so we have more help outside to get E2 Gowanda HS Library: The lacrosse field's ready, the, the football field is good. The baseball fields are ready for, spring… E2 Gowanda HS Library: really brings a

lot, with, baseball, softball, and lacrosse being outside. E2 Gowanda HS Library: We have, 5 custodians, 2 head custodians that work at both buildings, E2 Gowanda HS Library: We have, 11 cleaners, and that, brings us to a total of 22 staff right now. That's not counting me, so I'd be 23. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Oh… E2 Gowanda HS Library: No. Cancel? Yeah. Just scroll. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Oh. E2 Gowanda HS Library: So I left the Corvetail eggs on there, but… Oh. E2 Gowanda HS Library: So… E2 Gowanda HS Library: with the go on to priorities, our way of adding to this, or making this work, is to provide a safe, comfortable, and inviting environment to assist in meeting those priorities. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Doing that brings pride, when the parents want to come here.

If this place wasn't clean, didn't look nice, wasn't safe, the students in the morning, if they didn't feel safe here, they wouldn't learn as well. If the rooms were 60 degrees, E2 Gowanda HS Library: they wouldn't want to learn, and they won't learn as well, the staff wouldn't teach as well. So that's our part, is making sure it's clean, making everyone that's here take pride in this building. E2 Gowanda HS Library: What we're doing well, E2 Gowanda HS Library: Since July 1st, we have had 1,349 work orders come in. To this point, we've completed 95% of those. And 95% E2 Gowanda HS Library: can vary. That can be… we could get a work order today for something that's gonna happen in 3 months, and that will sit there for a while. We could get something…

someone that wants their office painted. E2 Gowanda HS Library: over the summer, and that could be put in in January. That will sit there until July when we do it. E2 Gowanda HS Library: So that's constantly changing, but the 95%, I believe, is very good. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Assisting students to graduate from BOCES by giving them a place to complete their internship. I just talked to a student, last week about, coming here. They come E2 Gowanda HS Library: It's May. The beginning of May or the end of April, they start, and they're usually with us for about a month, to get their internship done. There's a lot of students that don't have a way E2 Gowanda HS Library: To find a garage. E2 Gowanda HS Library: to do body work. Or, to find someplace

that's gonna take them on that does HVAC work. That's the one this year, is a student that's taking HVAC in BOCES. E2 Gowanda HS Library: But we give them that opportunity to come in, and they work with the mechanics, or I take them around, so they can learn a little bit more about the trade that they're gonna, they're gonna take on. E2 Gowanda HS Library: And giving stu… go on to students, job opportunities, we've had students that have Interned? E2 Gowanda HS Library: Then, worked for us for a summer, or worked for us, as a sub, and then worked for us over summers. E2 Gowanda HS Library: We've had special ed students that have worked with us during the day. E2 Gowanda HS Library: And then work for us now as a sub or full-time.

E2 Gowanda HS Library: So I think that's something that I'm really proud of. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Is that we do that. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Rich, I would just add, I don't know if you have it on here, but… E2 Gowanda HS Library: I mean, your 95% of work orders doesn't involve every emergency that you attend to on a regular basis. No, a queue is just something that someone puts in. E2 Gowanda HS Library: A lot of emergencies this year, and Rich's… Just a few. So, I mean, kudos to you guys. You guys are here all hours of the night, sometimes when the sewer's backed up. E2 Gowanda HS Library: everything. So, I mean, that's… there's a lot more going on behind the scenes of just the work order system. Yeah, that's not just…

that's any… anywhere that has a work order system. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Everything's not put in. It could be me walking down the hall and seeing you, and you tell me that my sink is leaking, and we take care of it. And that queue never gets put in at that point. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Or, like Barb said, the sewer backing up, or a tree falling on the power lines over at the elementary school the one night. Those are things that we stay after for, and we stay after until it's done. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Also, over the last… everyone knows this winter has been horrible. E2 Gowanda HS Library: since, December, or since after break in December, my staff has been here almost every day. E2 Gowanda HS Library: at least Monday through Friday,

from 4 or 4.30 in the morning until 3.30. They have come back because we've had things going on. E2 Gowanda HS Library: And they've been here on Saturdays, and they've also been here on Sundays, and when everyone else is at home on a snow day, and they're nice and warm. E2 Gowanda HS Library: We're here also, doing that snow removal. The last time we had a snow day, my staff worked from 7 until 2. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Making sure that the building was ready for that next day, for that next snow, which was probably that night. E2 Gowanda HS Library: They even came to my office and cleaned up a whole cup of coffee that I just dropped on the floor. E2 Gowanda HS Library: They're very good. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Points of

pride, 77% of the buildings and ground staff are either district residents, or they've graduated, or both. E2 Gowanda HS Library: And I… E2 Gowanda HS Library: didn't realize I had put the snow removal in here, but, it's definitely something that I'm proud of this year. I haven't seen piles the size of what we have right now, and I've been here for 10 years. It's been extreme this year, what we've had to do, and how we've had to move snow to actually make parking spots. E2 Gowanda HS Library: The Buildings and Grounds Department continues to strive to improve our customer service, which will assist Gawanda Central in moving closer to meeting the priorities listed in the second slide. E2 Gowanda HS Library: So the customer service side of it… last night, I got a text about

the hexillion that was here getting, E2 Gowanda HS Library: She got a thank you card from the JV and varsity basketball teams, and was mentioned by a student. E2 Gowanda HS Library: So… That's what I strive for. E2 Gowanda HS Library: And all of my staff, all of us should really strive for, but that's what I strive for for my staff. E2 Gowanda HS Library: My hopes and dreams? E2 Gowanda HS Library: really, for me, it's a capital project. And with the beginning of the new year, brings a start in the work needed to complete the new capital project. E2 Gowanda HS Library: that meets the needs of many of the different facets of the GCSD. My hopes and dreams are to work towards the successful completion of this project. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Now

it's the fun time. We've built the project already. Now it's all the user group meetings. It's getting the staff the buy-in with the staff to… so we get what they need, or as much as what we can get what they need. E2 Gowanda HS Library: And bringing it to a completion, even though it's another… E2 Gowanda HS Library: 5 years. Five years out, before it will be completed. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Is there any questions on… what we do? I'll just say, we hosted our youth wrestling, tournament E2 Gowanda HS Library: the 31st of January. E2 Gowanda HS Library: And, Rich came in, I don't think you were working. E2 Gowanda HS Library: And you lined up cones, and you made sure all the parking was awesome, and you didn't have to do that, so

we really appreciate that. But not only that, I mean, all of your staff, we like to leave E2 Gowanda HS Library: this place, you know, how we found it, we're better. And, truly, like, all the staff that day was so helpful, so friendly, they always are. But, like, we needed anything, they, they helped us get it, they were always around if we needed anything, and… E2 Gowanda HS Library: that goes for the staff all year round. I mean, I could be on my walking break at Hillis at work, and, you know, Scott Tad's over there, always, you know, working so hard, and everything always does look so nice. So, you should take a lot of pride in that. E2 Gowanda HS Library: So, thank you. We do, and they do. Yeah, thank you. E2 Gowanda

HS Library: No, I only look as good as what my staff is. Really. E2 Gowanda HS Library: I'm sure you train him, though, so… Yes, he does. E2 Gowanda HS Library: I would second that. Any evening events that I've ever hear, the custodians are visible, they're asking people if they can help them with anything, you need to find the bathroom, anything, they're always very friendly and approachable, and they do a great job, they really do. Good. So, I second that. Also, not that it's your department, but the, the, E2 Gowanda HS Library: like, the chaperones or the monitors at the different, like, sports vents and stuff, they're also very helpful and friendly, and I… Good. That is good. I've had good experiences with that. It makes us look good for our visitors. E2 Gowanda HS

Library: Thank you. Thanks, Rich. Thanks, Rich. Thank you. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Nothing? We are going to take care of the tree that fell on the fence, just so… I'm sure you saw that. I expected that you… it was that same day that, the tree fell at the elementary school. E2 Gowanda HS Library: And I didn't notice that one until, Scott told me the next morning. E2 Gowanda HS Library: My new fence, too. Yeah, it was part of the new fence. It didn't just take out more of the old, E2 Gowanda HS Library: Thank you. Thank you, Rich. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Introduced to, Barb Smith, our school bus administrator, and he's going to… E2 Gowanda HS Library: Finish it up tonight with, property. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Show the bottom? E2 Gowanda HS Library:

I'm gonna block the street. Talk about this the third time tonight, but hey, third time's a charm. I love it. So, the property tax cap is required by New York State. We have to file it with the state by September, geez. E2 Gowanda HS Library: March 1st. The calculation is, set by law, so the maximum amount that the district could levy is the 3.96%, $214,713. E2 Gowanda HS Library: And then we have the other options that we're still discussing with the board, that we'll kind of finalize at the next, E2 Gowanda HS Library: Budget Workshop on the 25th. So, we're just kind of… this, again, we're showing this, we have to show it for, E2 Gowanda HS Library: the public, and then eventually, file it with New York State. E2 Gowanda HS Library: So, I've

talked about this a couple times. I don't know if there's anything else to add at this point. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Okay. E2 Gowanda HS Library: I want to hear the whole thing again. Start from scratch. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Alright, roll on to, 10.01. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Board of Education Communication. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Yeah, it's more of, like. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Play sets? Yeah. Play the movie. I don't know if anyone wants to. If anybody wants that one. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Then we're going to Board of Education Committee Reports. Anybody meet? No, we meet tomorrow. Yeah, tomorrow. Are we still having the policy committee meeting? I'm sorry, that was one of my questions. E2 Gowanda HS Library: I just want to make sure. Oh, we are? Well, we gotta get

through the audit. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Well, we weren't gonna do the audit. We're gonna do the policies that were… E2 Gowanda HS Library: We have a couple outstanding policies we need to wrestle through. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Sometimes clicking on these. E2 Gowanda HS Library: That's tomorrow. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Friday. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Friday. Or no, tomorrow. Sorry. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Yeah, they're two points together. 3-3. Okay. E2 Gowanda HS Library: So, legislative, I did email out a brief one-page overview to the board members, but, E2 Gowanda HS Library: Quick sum-up would be… Those legislative NSBA action that we're kind of moving forward with is, fair funding. E2 Gowanda HS Library: For all the different districts, a focus on people. E2 Gowanda HS Library: One of the catchphrases there is, fix

Tier 6, for sure. E2 Gowanda HS Library: I'll be more encompassing with that. Sure. E2 Gowanda HS Library: And then… Indian health for all districts and connectivity. E2 Gowanda HS Library: For students, making sure that they're actually connected and available to them. E2 Gowanda HS Library: And then local school, choice. So, essentially, empowering the local districts, kind of voicing that. E2 Gowanda HS Library: We as school board members know what's best for our constitutes. E2 Gowanda HS Library: stands. E2 Gowanda HS Library: That's come in the report I have on the legislative stuff. E2 Gowanda HS Library: I know we are handle… Committee. Committee reports. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Is there a parent. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Went on to… Oh, sorry, there was no other committee reports, right? Didn't meet. E2 Gowanda HS Library:

Moves us to the Boeing Administration Roundtable. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Mark, you want to kick us off? E2 Gowanda HS Library: Sure. E2 Gowanda HS Library: administration or a broad table? E2 Gowanda HS Library: Yep. E2 Gowanda HS Library: A while back, pickleball. E2 Gowanda HS Library: The tennis courts. E2 Gowanda HS Library: The village has actually gotten a grant. E2 Gowanda HS Library: is getting a grant for St. John's Park, and they will be lining for pickles. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Hey, Sam, there you go. E2 Gowanda HS Library: How do you do the nets, so that you're not alone. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Can we get a splash pad. People are gonna be so excited. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Could be done this year. Nice. At St. John's? That's great. At St. John's?

At St. John's. And Gateway is also talking about putting in a pickleball court. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Oh, where's the splash packet? E2 Gowanda HS Library: Where the big round circle is. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Basketball court. Thank you. An iceberg. Oh, did it. E2 Gowanda HS Library: I mean, that was before your time, before my time. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Okay, thank you. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Aldrich. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Are they gonna… It's great. We're gonna go play. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Are they gonna pay for tennis, by chance? E2 Gowanda HS Library: Are they gonna paint for tenants? E2 Gowanda HS Library: I can't get everything, Zach. Just curious. Wait a few more years for those ones to get in. E2 Gowanda HS Library: He is putting in for a lot

of… E2 Gowanda HS Library: major funding there, so… That would be great. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Do we get to know what canons at St. John's Clark, so we don't… canonism? That's another thing. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Are we drawing others? E2 Gowanda HS Library: I really don't have too much. I would just like to say congrats to the retirees, too. In particular, Barb Dempsey. I didn't have her as a teacher, but my daughter has her, my son had her. She's just… E2 Gowanda HS Library: unending joy. She's just friendly. E2 Gowanda HS Library: She has impacted so many students, always positive, always smiling, and yeah, it's… these teachers really do make lifelong impacts. E2 Gowanda HS Library: And, are remembered well beyond, you know, when they are teaching their students in many different ways.

And so, shout out to them that thank you for your service, and congrats on your retirement, and enjoy, and… E2 Gowanda HS Library: And it's, like you say, they're irreplaceable, they really are. E2 Gowanda HS Library: So, yeah, so that little sappy moment, and then, you know, community cheerleader, whatever. So, tomorrow's a band concert, we don't have our students here to give us the rundown of the schedule, so tomorrow is a high school band concert, and… E2 Gowanda HS Library: Featuring modern band, which is really cool. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Pops concert, it's my favorite concert of the year, so it's popular music, it's not the classical long-haired stuff, it's good stuff. So, if you have a free moment tomorrow evening, check them out. E2 Gowanda HS Library: So, anyway. E2 Gowanda HS Library: I

think that's all he has. E2 Gowanda HS Library: I'm gonna lead off, too, with a congratulations to all the retirees. Thank you for your service, and again, I agree with Sue. They leave a long-lasting impact on our students, and we appreciate them, so congratulations and good luck. E2 Gowanda HS Library: The… I did want to comment, so they had Lila's, Cheer for Lindsay, last week. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Great event, love it. We have cheerleaders that come from all sorts of districts, and to add to that, I'm super excited about the foyer coming at some point with the capital project, and the reason why I say that, because there was… E2 Gowanda HS Library: many comments that night from people, regarding, like, the desk that's, for some reason, situated on there. I mean, that is

kind of awkward. It's very awkward. It's very awkward. E2 Gowanda HS Library: That was definitely a point that many people commented to me that night, and I'm not sure, I don't know why. It wasn't even used. Let me say, and I'll get to it later, about the director of the community education, put some of our… her brochures there, or her paperwork for all the coming events. E2 Gowanda HS Library: But it was kind of awkward and kind of disgusting to look at, honestly. E2 Gowanda HS Library: It is old… please just get rid of it. It's not even be used. So, but then the other comment that I did have that… E2 Gowanda HS Library: wasn't commented enough was, the TV screen, the monitor that we have about all the athletics. And I love that

it's there. I was very for it, but my thing is, nobody pays attention to it. And I don't know if it's because E2 Gowanda HS Library: it's not… it would be great to see pop-ups of images of our athletes and things like that. Yes, instead of just saying… showing the G or the palm print, it would be nice to actually… E2 Gowanda HS Library: do, like, a sleep… where a computer monitor goes to sleep and it shows all the pictures, it would be nice to see something like that. Just throwing it out there, because nobody walked up and touched it. It was very disappointing. Between the two gym doors, there's that one monitor that has all the information, and honestly, and I know, I'm sure it's a lot of work. E2 Gowanda HS Library: I'm

sure it is, but it would be nice to see more information on it. And I say things like. E2 Gowanda HS Library: One of the big things that I think in our district is we have state champions, our softball team. E2 Gowanda HS Library: And there was, like, nothing about that on there. Yeah, I'll talk to Candy. She pays for a software program. Okay. But I do know it was… Like I said, I'm not complaining, and I'm sure it is, I'm just… it would be nice to see more information, and again, I don't think we promote our softball team enough. No. And I don't have kids on the softball team, so it's not that I'm doing it for a reason, but I think just, yes, we have state champions. Principal's husband is a state champion.

E2 Gowanda HS Library: At least on a wrestling mat. That's what I'm saying. It's present… E2 Gowanda HS Library: Yes, exactly, but… so, just throwing it out there… I'll talk to Candy. E2 Gowanda HS Library: And I… the Director of Community Education, if anybody remembers, we, you know, they spoke E2 Gowanda HS Library: they were accepted last board meeting, but there aren't a lot of events out there. She's got pickleball, she's got… I mean, and I'm sure if anybody's on Facebook paying attention, I'm sure everybody sees all the things going on, but sign up for it, because these are the things that people are asking for, and let's make sure that, you know, they flourish, and that people actually do these things. I know that we have this Google guru that's being taught, and E2

Gowanda HS Library: So many different things. Pickleball, cookie decorating, all sorts of crazy things. I'm just hoping people take advantage of it. E2 Gowanda HS Library: I feel like there was one more thing that I… oh. E2 Gowanda HS Library: I do want to… at some point, I want to ask about the auditorium and the reading of it. There was a conversation at one point, and I don't remember where that landed. That's in the palace, okay, it's still going. Yeah, it's kind of hanging. Okay. Yeah. Alright. Yeah, well, it's hanging. I think that the comment was that the way your current start is… people are asking. E2 Gowanda HS Library: and I think the committee refined this, the way the policy currently is written, pretty much anybody can write a letter before, and then you

get something named after it, which is cool, which is fine. E2 Gowanda HS Library: But I think people want to have a little different diet. E2 Gowanda HS Library: recognized on the wall space, you know. I think without… currently, the policy doesn't really require any public input, or that it E2 Gowanda HS Library: It doesn't reach generations. I've said, I just find my optic and my own history on the planet, I don't know if people touched, but, you know, Dr. Littlemore comes up quite often. He was a World War I vet, a physician on the board, bequeathed this district. E2 Gowanda HS Library: A bunch of money, and it's gaps, and we still use the interest on that. E2 Gowanda HS Library: purchase time, so… E2 Gowanda HS Library: There's nothing here in the deck.

So they just want to capture, like, a broader range, make sure things are… E2 Gowanda HS Library: Why don't we have someone? I've never even had that name before. Let's fix the policy, and then we can do it! That would be great. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Not that money buys things, I mean, it could be… there's a lot of… No, no, yeah. …we just aren't aware of, because I've never… Right, right. I only ask about the conversation about the auditorium, because I do think she's touched generations as well, you know what I mean? And I think that it would be great to do, and it would be nice at some point to hopefully see that happen. E2 Gowanda HS Library: But, I do remember the discussion, but I've had a couple people bring that up,

too. That's the only reason why I asked. Yeah, there's another gentleman that we're working on who E2 Gowanda HS Library: Passed away recently. E2 Gowanda HS Library: basically left this entire estate for scholarships. We're talking, like, really, $300,000. Wow. So, you know, not that he's the whole loan, I just don't know how it, it's my opinion. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Just gotta be really careful how you do them. E2 Gowanda HS Library: practice names, you know, you're gonna put up on the walls. Sure. You know, look at other places. Bigger school districts have many different buildings, they can probably do different things. E2 Gowanda HS Library: But, like, E2 Gowanda HS Library: We do have a wall of things. Well, right, some people are talking… Right. You know, in her case, she's hiring, though. Agreed.

I don't know, we don't have… E2 Gowanda HS Library: But, like, George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, you know, people of that nature generally aren't schools. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Thank you. I wasn't sure where that was at. Thank you. E2 Gowanda HS Library: I'm done. E2 Gowanda HS Library: We have the Martin Matthew Boardroom. After all these years, yeah. E2 Gowanda HS Library: So, just kidding, but that's… breaking up the island. E2 Gowanda HS Library: I will just echo the, sentiment for our retirees. Really sad to see those folks go. It's a lot of collective knowledge there. E2 Gowanda HS Library: They're all terrific and will be hard to replace. And then, since our student board members are here, I can tell you about the events that I know that are coming up. I know tomorrow

we have a blood drive going on right in the space. E2 Gowanda HS Library: I'm always amazed by how many students and staff, participate. I'm no longer allowed to participate, because the last one didn't go well for me. No, no, it did not, right? Bob was… Bob was fanning me. Yeah, I was brought to duty. Yeah. But so many people do that, and then we have our top 10 announcement coming out. Happy Friday for the high school. E2 Gowanda HS Library: I know at the middle school this Friday, there's honors receptions for each individual grade level that the staff's doing, and we have our infamous Staff for Student Volleyball game taking place. E2 Gowanda HS Library: At the end of the day Friday, and hopefully there aren't any E2 Gowanda HS Library: workers' comp cases

coming our way from that, and then I know at the elementary school, we have a Valentine's Day dance, which I think is probably the first one that I've heard of taking place, PTO sponsored at the elementary school this Friday, so that'll be a really nice event for the kids. So, just some really fun, exciting things happening as we kick off the break. E2 Gowanda HS Library: We also talked about the property tax cap in there? Just a fourth time. For the poorly male. I have nothing. I will miss the retirees as well, but fine, bye. E2 Gowanda HS Library: The desk has been controversial. It's in the foyer. Sorry. No, it is nice, we'll get rid of it tomorrow. No, I mean, when people come, they don't know anything about it, you know, you're like,

what's this going on in the foyer? There's kids out there… E2 Gowanda HS Library: There's kids there in the afternoon, and there's a monitor who monitors the traffic, and they set up shop there, but it doesn't E2 Gowanda HS Library: Inside a different desk. Yeah, a little more professional. We'll figure something out. It does look bad. I do want to shout out again to Rich and Annette, and their departments. You know, often, it's great they come out and share what they do with boards. Often of times, I don't think E2 Gowanda HS Library: showcase what happens, and they're really, truly part of the backbone of the district. I mean, they safely transport kids, buildings are E2 Gowanda HS Library: Clean, they're nice, they have a lot going on, so kudos to those folks. E2 Gowanda

HS Library: Here's the PPO down in the elementary school. They've been doing a lot of great work down there, really happy. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Well, I'm not surprised anymore. E2 Gowanda HS Library: very appreciative of that, so kudos to them. They're always doing something pretty good. E2 Gowanda HS Library: I think the PTO does have a great group, though. They really, they do a lot of extra things. It's really amazing. It's great to see. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Do you kidding? E2 Gowanda HS Library: I don't really have much, BOCES is, accepting nominations. E2 Gowanda HS Library: for… the, E2 Gowanda HS Library: Board members, your opponent school districts, foreign education, and… E2 Gowanda HS Library: Sorry, I'm looking for, like, what exactly this is called, and it's just… Don't worry about it. E2

Gowanda HS Library: Most of these board nominations. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Can we have a seat on that, if you're… Isn't it one person? E2 Gowanda HS Library: I thought it was more purity. E2 Gowanda HS Library: one per, and I… That's you, so we cannot… I thought this was something… Is that for BOCES? E2 Gowanda HS Library: For art boards? No, no, it's for the BOCES board. Okay. Okay, sorry. Let's move on. E2 Gowanda HS Library: I want to follow right there. Congratulations to Jayden Fish, kid that's been in varsity from 7th grade till current. Hunter wins, that's a huge accomplishment, and arguably a very, very difficult sport, so I know his family's very proud of him, and that was a huge accomplishment. E2 Gowanda HS Library: And, good luck to the retirees, Mrs.

Rogers. She was here when I was here, and I don't want to date her or, you know, go that route, but, thanks for her service to the district. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Can I add one more to that? Nate Warrior. Nate. Nate Warrior hit his 100th as well. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Yeah. E2 Gowanda HS Library: big accomplishment. They're great accomplishments. And that's a career. I mean, that's a crazy career. And that's your varsity career, that's not counting everything else, so that's an amazing, amazing feat. Sorry. No, I will, I will totally second that. Congratulations to them. E2 Gowanda HS Library: I never anticipated being a wrestling mom, but I'm still in the youth, and… Whoa. E2 Gowanda HS Library: I could never, get out there and do that. So, awesome job, super proud of

them. I think there's been a couple thousand pointer career accomplishments, too. There was, E2 Gowanda HS Library: My sister made the basketballs for one of them. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Lucas Brody had reached out to her, and Presented that, E2 Gowanda HS Library: Trey Lynn? Trey Lynn Ori. Okay. Is it Trey Lynn? Yes. But I feel like there was a girl to CCC. So, congratulations to them. That seems like… E2 Gowanda HS Library: like… totally awesome, too, so… I was not athletic in school. E2 Gowanda HS Library: But, yes, I will also second, E2 Gowanda HS Library: And third and fourth, congratulations to all the retirees. I actually started in Gwanda my 7th grade year, and I had Mrs. Robley. E2 Gowanda HS Library: And then, in high school, I had Mrs. Dempsey, and, we

went to Europe together. I hope we can maybe do that again. But so many fond memories, and I wish them well. Congratulations to, Ms. Mangilo, is that how you say it? E2 Gowanda HS Library: On her tenure, that's awesome. And yeah, so two of my kids, personally, are over at the elementary school, and I feel like every week there's some sort of notice about the PTO putting on some sort of cool thing. E2 Gowanda HS Library: So, I think Heather Pappas is the president of that, so kudos to her for I'm… E2 Gowanda HS Library: Sure, that's not easy to do all the things, but, it's appreciated. E2 Gowanda HS Library: And then, yeah, just… Thanks for the presentations tonight, E2 Gowanda HS Library: I… you couldn't pay me enough to do anything with the

transportation. That's an incredible job. E2 Gowanda HS Library: I can't even imagine the stress that she's under every day. And then Rich, again, just kudos. Everything always looks so nice, and the staff is always so friendly. So, I know, as an outside agency, utilizing the facilities here, we really appreciate that, so… E2 Gowanda HS Library: Other than that… Thank you. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Anywhere to implement? E2 Gowanda HS Library: I guess I'll roll on to… Board of Education Park Department. E2 Gowanda HS Library: That's the field coaches. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Your king's on the board on that. E2 Gowanda HS Library: But here's kind of presentations tonight. We had a… some percentages of… Staff that was local. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Both special ed buildings and grounds and bus drivers. E2 Gowanda HS

Library: I think we need to keep that in mind. I don't necessarily need to throw in the parking lot, but… E2 Gowanda HS Library: in… Bold is for the budget. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Oat. E2 Gowanda HS Library: That is something that's important to the public. E2 Gowanda HS Library: One thing for the The parking lot is harmless. E2 Gowanda HS Library: It's the list from the board in terms of what's coming up, not necessarily the superintendent. E2 Gowanda HS Library: But I'd like to… Think about adding women's foliage. E2 Gowanda HS Library: monitor that list so we don't lose track of it at some point. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Whatever needs to be done. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Wrestling? E2 Gowanda HS Library: Am I added to the list? E2 Gowanda HS Library: It

is happening. It's happening. Yeah, it's done, I mean, it's pretty much done deal. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Apparently, we just come on a loose. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Yeah, I mean, I budgeted for a women's coach. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Yes, yeah, yeah, yeah. E2 Gowanda HS Library: So I don't think it needs to be added. Yeah, we're not… Second. E2 Gowanda HS Library: 10. E2 Gowanda HS Library: And I'm sure that we need more on regionalization at this point. E2 Gowanda HS Library: No, that was… Something here could be put on… E2 Gowanda HS Library: When it was coming out. You want me to take it off, remember? E2 Gowanda HS Library: Not just me, it's… I was gonna say, isn't… E2 Gowanda HS Library: the rest of the board, like, do you feel

you need more information on reaching… I mean. E2 Gowanda HS Library: It's on here, but yeah, Dr. Anderson's doing it regularly. E2 Gowanda HS Library: So that it needs to stay on there. The reminder. E2 Gowanda HS Library: It's already happening. E2 Gowanda HS Library: For the board, is there anything, we've got the mid-year benchmark for February 2026, did we do… E2 Gowanda HS Library: Do we do that? Do we need to do that? Do we need to change? I believe we still need to do that E2 Gowanda HS Library: come March. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Leave it this way until we… E2 Gowanda HS Library: Did I change the date to make sure we do it on March? E2 Gowanda HS Library: I don't need to change the date, just… E2 Gowanda HS Library:

I'll give you the kind of outline of things that are coming up, so hopefully you can take a peek at it, but the blueprint and benchmarks kind of work the same. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Okay, and do we… Do you want to take benchmark off and just have a blueprint on there? E2 Gowanda HS Library: It's up to the board. Or put blueprint slash benchmark update. E2 Gowanda HS Library: So it's all coincides at the same time? Yeah, that's right. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Thanks, Mr. Virtual. E2 Gowanda HS Library: And then, did you ever hear back anything from Black Passport? No! E2 Gowanda HS Library: No, I reached out to him there that one time I heard back. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Yeah, and like, it's hard… I even know I'm the only… E2

Gowanda HS Library: One candidate that probably has seen any sort of presentation. E2 Gowanda HS Library: I think it would be very informative, even if it was just a quick workshop. E2 Gowanda HS Library: We just need the information. Yeah. Is that what we're looking for, or… E2 Gowanda HS Library: Right. Yeah, I mean, something to go on. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Bob, anything else on the… E2 Gowanda HS Library: What time will be distributed, please. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Alright, rolling on to… No, I'd like a recession, we'll move right on to… E2 Gowanda HS Library: 12.01 for adjournment, consideration of motion to adjourn the meet. E2 Gowanda HS Library: All in favor? Aye. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Thank you, everybody.
