001E2 Gowanda HS Library: I would make a consideration motion to vote and approve Agenda Items 2.01 to 6.02. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Second. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Do we have any discussion? E2 Gowanda HS Library: So, full disclosure, I wanted to be transparent that I do work for Beck Electric. E2 Gowanda HS Library: The word in the community. E2 Gowanda HS Library: that you maybe should have been abstained. Yeah, I probably should have abstained from the last meeting and from the last vote, but moving forward, I would certainly hope so. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Thank you for sharing that, I know, E2 Gowanda HS Library: You know, I went through something else, so abstaining doesn't, in fact, A motion carried from Weston. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Do you have any other discussion for consensus items?
002E2 Gowanda HS Library: Can I just ask a question first? Who voted for consent? I had John, and who seconded? E2 Gowanda HS Library: I'd like to remove 505 from consensus. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Separately? E2 Gowanda HS Library: A bunch of pollution. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Staying from that one. E2 Gowanda HS Library: You have to hold on, if you guys can let me know this stuff before the meeting. E2 Gowanda HS Library: We should move 505, the consensus. E2 Gowanda HS Library: And that's Sethra, any other discussion? E2 Gowanda HS Library: None? E2 Gowanda HS Library: Alright, so 4 consensus items. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Less than 505. E2 Gowanda HS Library: All in favor. E2 Gowanda HS Library: You guys aren't gonna see that in front of you right now. E2 Gowanda
003HS Library: Because I had to shut everything down and restart it again to get the change. E2 Gowanda HS Library: It is behind the scenes happening, but you're not gonna see that out of consent right now. E2 Gowanda HS Library: I'm sorry. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Alright, so then we have, subject 505, appointment of bus driver Colton Clarius. Consideration motion upon the recommendation of the superintendent to appoint Colton Clarius as a probationary employee. Decision of bus driver at the contractual rate of probationary service will begin August 7th, 2025, and shall continue for… E2 Gowanda HS Library: 52 weeks. E2 Gowanda HS Library: All in favor? Aye. All opposed? E2 Gowanda HS Library: Understand. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Interesting? Okay. E2 Gowanda HS Library: The reason is because he's a eligibility. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Former
004village you play name. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Oops. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Well, I appreciate the explanation, how long required. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Alright, so motion still carries. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Not all left. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Okay. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Alright, so… E2 Gowanda HS Library: Public discussion, comment on agenda and non-agenda items. We have none this evening. That'll get us right into our system. Well, hey, welcome back to school, everyone. It's been a great start to the new school year. A lot of E2 Gowanda HS Library: You know, there's always some bumps you've stuck, but it's a lot of energy in all the buildings, and it's really nice to see people back, and smell the openings, smell the school. E2 Gowanda HS Library: the fall, and all the goodies, so
005I'm really excited to start the school year. On your agenda tonight, just thank you to a couple community organizations, the Federated Sportsman's Club, the Water Rifle Club, Kwana Lodge 1382, the Collins Conservation Club, for generously donating to our tractor, so thank you to those organizations. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Some congratulations in order. Tonight you accept the retirement resignation of senior Tim Barrett. He's coming back and working with us, but anyway, congratulations, on his retirement. E2 Gowanda HS Library: And lastly, unfortunately, I wasn't present, but I wanted to wish our District Treasurer, Jackie Reeves, congratulations on her upcoming retirement. It's been a real pleasure working with Jackie over these years, and I'm just a real asset, and certainly wish her the best. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Some quick announcements for the board and the public. The
006district's partnering now with Cartwheel K12, which is a clinical service partner to the district. We provide options for teletherapy for students in need. E2 Gowanda HS Library: And coordinate, and we'll coordinate with the school. There's very limited numbers of mental health providers, providers in our area. Transportation's an issue for families, so it's a nice, nice opportunity for people to connect with healthcare professionals. I'll share more as forthcoming, we can roll that out. E2 Gowanda HS Library: This is week two of our quote-unquote cell phone ban. From my perspective, there's been a few instances, you know, in both E2 Gowanda HS Library: middle and high school, but nothing major. I think there's 10 cell phone events, whatever you want to call those, but nothing major. Anecdotally, I've noticed and occurred, people being a little more E2
007Gowanda HS Library: social and talkative at lunch, even in different places, so I think that's a good time for us, but we'll see how it goes. E2 Gowanda HS Library: You know, and keep you up to date. I'm sure may our student board members have different perspectives when they're on the program, or maybe not, I don't know. We'll find out. E2 Gowanda HS Library: There's a couple really interesting visits to our district area coming up. I just want you to be aware of. State Senator George Brillo, E2 Gowanda HS Library: took me up on my offer that I offered him in the spring to come visit our district. As of now, the schedule will allow that October 10th. Just come and visit, it's between 10 and 12. E2 Gowanda HS Library: new. We'll show him
008around some programs, and, appreciate him coming, checking our district out. So, I look forward to seeing the Senator. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Pretty big week for this, I guess. That same week, the Commissioner of Education Betty Rosa will be in our area, and on October 7th. E2 Gowanda HS Library: There'll be a joint dinner between the Chautauqua County and Erie County School Board Associations, to host her. I'm sure there'll be a question and answer, meet and greet. I'm not sure where it's gonna be located yet, but that information will be forthcoming. So, I plan on going. If you want to go, I'd be interested in the area. E2 Gowanda HS Library: It's the evening, so can she wait for some, pork folks. E2 Gowanda HS Library: For the summer, I meant to share this with
009you in August, but in late June, July, Business First always releases their rankings of districts across Western New York, and it generally is no surprise, but to share with you guys get some good press. The middle school was given, and I'm not sure how this is measured, but was given an overall B- rating. E2 Gowanda HS Library: But A for teachers, kudos. E2 Gowanda HS Library: The high school was given an overall B rating, clubs and activities A-, and resources and facilities A-. So, I'll take it. Not bad. Again, I'm not sure how those are determined, but… E2 Gowanda HS Library: Capital updates, the pool, right now it's tenant, demolition is underway, and besides… What's that unit? E2 Gowanda HS Library: HVAC unit? Yeah, the HVAC unit up on… will be up on top of
010the roof. There's… E2 Gowanda HS Library: Kind of delay on that, but we're still looking at spring, springtime having it completed. E2 Gowanda HS Library: So, it's coming along. If you've been down to elementary school playgrounds, that get poured in place. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Surfs down there, it's pretty cool. E2 Gowanda HS Library: And the parking lots, as you know, are looking pretty sharp. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Couple other things… School safety questions, I was asked by a few people about E2 Gowanda HS Library: Cell phones and the parents' role in the lockdown in pharmacy. E2 Gowanda HS Library: So if this helps, just let me know or not. So cell phones, they're not in use in the district, not supposed to be by law. And generally, even if they were, cell phone use
011is really very much discouraged by law enforcement, it's not been taught. E2 Gowanda HS Library: During emergencies, because it just basically jams up communications between first responders and causes problems. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Parent, if there's ever a security emergency for parents, I know that's probably, as a parent, you know, one of your worst nightmares and thoughts that something's going on with your child, but the school or law enforcement will get ahold of the community as soon as you possibly can. I think moms and dads should be on standby, and E2 Gowanda HS Library: rushing down here is not really going to help anything, necessarily. Most likely given away if people really need to do the help. So, that's my advice to parents. Can't tell you what to do, but, especially parents can't hold tight,
012and, E2 Gowanda HS Library: I don't know, it'd be a very difficult situation. E2 Gowanda HS Library: So, good answer questions. Those are the main things. If there's any other questions about safe stuff, I can always bring SROs or Richie or a combination of all this. E2 Gowanda HS Library: That's generally what I was looking for. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Then, believe it or not, E2 Gowanda HS Library: Gave the board a petition I received last week in part of my pile of… Stop. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Mr. Adam Beth, our music teacher, presented with me a petition to share shortly with the board. E2 Gowanda HS Library: in line with honorary name rights policy, which is… we'd like to name our auditorium after Cindy Ripley, long-term music teacher here, and very, very stellar career.
013E2 Gowanda HS Library: Really phenomenal person. E2 Gowanda HS Library: So, looking through the policy. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Any nomination for anybody should be considered. Your policy says an ad hoc committee should be established, but use pre-existing ones if possible, and because the facility, maybe the building committee, would be the best admin to consider the request. E2 Gowanda HS Library: And then the committee has 90 days to complete the review, make a recommendation to the full board, and then it's up to you if you want to accept or reject them. E2 Gowanda HS Library: So, I guess I'm asking if that's sufficient. The building community maybe could consider this? E2 Gowanda HS Library: Proposal. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Evaluate its merits, see what we need to do, and bring it back to the full
014board. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Sorry, was it building, or was it policy? E2 Gowanda HS Library: But it makes sense to me, I don't know how. E2 Gowanda HS Library: So, it's our next holding committee meeting, Kathy. E2 Gowanda HS Library: We do have one scheduled. E2 Gowanda HS Library: That was a trick question. I was like, huh. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Got me nervous. We need to schedule one. Yes, there's no need to schedule. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Ideas. You've got ideas. Yeah. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Recalled. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Does Friday work for people? E2 Gowanda HS Library: Yes, that's right. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Yeah, it was, that was Friday. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Friday's good for community members in that group? E2 Gowanda HS Library: What day you sing? Mmm…
015Not this writing, right? No. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Let's turn around. Seems way too soon. Ambitious. Yeah, very ambitious. Do you have to spend anything, or are you gonna… Well, we can invite him. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Yeah, that'd be nice. This guy's lighter boat, he invited me. E2 Gowanda HS Library: I wasn't sure if there was anything else in the process to be. E2 Gowanda HS Library: No, I'll look at it. E2 Gowanda HS Library: How about Monday, October 20th. E2 Gowanda HS Library: I can do that. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Make sure it's not a Sunday night game. Yeah. I don't know. Fridays are better for me, though. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Those three, Brittany, John, and Daphne. Oh, okay. Well, how about Friday, October 3rd? E2 Gowanda HS Library: A little sooner,
016and… Good to meet. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Like, 9am? Yeah. E2 Gowanda HS Library: 9.30. E2 Gowanda HS Library: We can always do a Zoom. Yeah, we can Zoom it. We can do that. That was Friday, October 3rd at 9.30? Yes, yep. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Good afternoon. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Okay, that's gonna be great. E2 Gowanda HS Library: That's the only two I can think of. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Silicon, Steph Kaiser Vanitorium. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Just wondered. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Alright, perfect. That's all I have. Thank you. E2 Gowanda HS Library: I had a question regarding the pool. You said that the… is the schedule laid out that it'll be completed in the spring? In the meantime, they're doing demo and then retiling it in the interim, so is it
017safe to say that the, really, the last piece that you're waiting on is that piece of equipment, that air handling in it? Yeah. Everything else done except for having that in place by then? I would think so. I would think so, E2 Gowanda HS Library: They said it was 20 weeks out, so they were looking, like, mid to late January for that to show up, and I think we were originally thinking by the end of January, we'd have the pool done. E2 Gowanda HS Library: So now they're saying March would be done. E2 Gowanda HS Library: It's the date they gave you. E2 Gowanda HS Library: No issues with the weather and that thing being outside, or… E2 Gowanda HS Library: I don't know. They didn't seem to be too worried about it. I'm sure
018that if it was really bad, it might delay it a little bit, but I think we're so used to delays at this point. Sure. And hypothetically, in a good case scenario that does in March, when will you then start to enroll in programming or use the pool? E2 Gowanda HS Library: I think we're gonna start working on getting life and life jackets, lifeguards, people that actually combined with the pool. E2 Gowanda HS Library: It could… so that would be our next limiting factor. I would say probably… probably we could try this summer, you know, we'll get people in place, you know, for summer rock and things like that. And during the school year, are our, gym teachers certified as lifeguards? E2 Gowanda HS Library: They will be. E2 Gowanda HS Library: So then we could
019roll it into the school in the fall. E2 Gowanda HS Library: So… Swimming unit every spring. E2 Gowanda HS Library: operations, so this year's class might get a reprint, but next year, get your trunks, all pets are up. I know, they're all excited. Once we get to that point with the pool, are we looking to have some sort of community odd swim lessons? E2 Gowanda HS Library: We really need to find some late gardens. That's what I figured. That's our… that's been our real problem. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Yep. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Yeah, that's gonna be a limited factor. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Start of the year, we can start kind of drumming that up. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Alright? E2 Gowanda HS Library: Next, I'll talk to our student board members. E2 Gowanda
020HS Library: So… All three schools have been through good weeks, good… E2 Gowanda HS Library: they didn't have to have school. We've seen some very positive E2 Gowanda HS Library: Enforcement with the fall policy through the middle school and the high school. E2 Gowanda HS Library: The PTO is working on doing a family For me… E2 Gowanda HS Library: Free Family Fun Night once a month, hosted at GCS. E2 Gowanda HS Library: And, like, movies… it's gonna be, like, movies, popcorns. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Playgrounds, et cetera, like that. E2 Gowanda HS Library: New… there's gonna be a new bus dismissal. Has been improving every day. E2 Gowanda HS Library: All students are safely escorted to their buses for the DC. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Peace. E2 Gowanda HS Library: P-T-S. E2 Gowanda HS Library:
021And the middle school, are doing a pep rally, did a pep rally on Time Tan. E2 Gowanda HS Library: And then activity day, announcing, like, modified teams, teams like that, so that's… Bye. E2 Gowanda HS Library: enthusiastic for them. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Okay, and for the high school year, we have Homecoming week is coming up. Homecoming is… E2 Gowanda HS Library: Indeed, October 11th. You have to be in school October 10th. That is made very apparent here. You have to be in school the 10th to… E2 Gowanda HS Library: go to homecoming. The homecoming football game is that Friday night. We play… E2 Gowanda HS Library: I don't remember, but we… tickets, Ravenville and Elkaville. I believe it is that? The home game. But that Spirit Week is coming up, E2 Gowanda HS Library:
022For the high school families watching, please opt in to receive the texts and email newsletters that we have. I know we do have E2 Gowanda HS Library: So they make some pretty good newsletters, they put a lot of work into it, it's really interesting to read. E2 Gowanda HS Library: On the Hilbert College Fair is coming up Tuesday, September 16th. E2 Gowanda HS Library: That is sponsored by a couple of local schools in the area, and a couple of colleges are coming. E2 Gowanda HS Library: To just, like, give you some background knowledge about those colleges. GHS Open House is Thursday, September 18th. E2 Gowanda HS Library: from 5 to 6.30 p.m. Elementary school open house is the same day from 6 to 7.30, and the middle school open house is also from 5 to
0236.30, all the same day. You will be home in time for the Bills game. Don't worry. If you do come to open house, you will be home in time for the Bills game. E2 Gowanda HS Library: The first progress reports will be available on eSchool after September 19th, and they will be available online only for parents. E2 Gowanda HS Library: New this year, we have 2 digital progress reports each quarter, which will be every 3 weeks. E2 Gowanda HS Library: And we are looking forward to a great 25-26 school year across all three schools. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Thank you. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Right? E2 Gowanda HS Library: 1, the item center 1, vector's impacting. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Phillips? E2 Gowanda HS Library: This sounds like a presentation by Bart. That's my favorite
024topic. E2 Gowanda HS Library: We could probably just swap one. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Just trying to… E2 Gowanda HS Library: Is that size okay for you? Can you make the… make it bigger on the screen? E2 Gowanda HS Library: Yeah, can you make that bigger? E2 Gowanda HS Library: That's good. E2 Gowanda HS Library: So I kind of wanted to just, again, talk about… so we've mailed out the tax bills. E2 Gowanda HS Library: And I know I've kind of always explained this, but I think just reminding everybody in the public after they get their tax bills, that really the district's levy has real no effect on what your actual tax bill looks like when you compare it to the other townships. E2 Gowanda HS Library: So, this chart, I know it's got a
025lot of numbers on it, but I really am going to focus on just a couple things. So, we know that your tax bill's affected by the different townships that are within the district. E2 Gowanda HS Library: The A column is the assessed valuation, so this is the change between, for each town, the change of the total assessed valuation from last year to this year. E2 Gowanda HS Library: And so everything in this is the change. So, what I'm just going to show you, in particular, I want to, look at Collins there in yellow. So, if you look at Collins, their chain, they relatively remained flat in the assessed valuation. E2 Gowanda HS Library: But when you take the assessed valuation divided by the equalization rate to get full value, because their equalization rate dropped another
0266%, it drove up the full value, because you're taking that number and dividing it by a smaller number, it drove up your full value. E2 Gowanda HS Library: So then when you keep… if you keep moving across, you kind of see that their full value ratio, so the full value ratio is what we spread the whole levy across. E2 Gowanda HS Library: So their full value, ratio went up 4%, and you can see all the other townships are either zero or, what, decreased. So then the amount to be raised, so if you look there in the green, that's $64,308, E2 Gowanda HS Library: That's the increase in the total levy. E2 Gowanda HS Library: But the town of Collins went up 286,000. E2 Gowanda HS Library: So, and the other districts decreased. So, again, kind
027of what it's showing you is our total amount really doesn't have anything to do with what's happening. So even if we had raised taxes zero, or even decreased, then the town of Collins still would have gone up, because their increase is significantly more than what we raised in the levy. E2 Gowanda HS Library: There's a couple other things that impact everything, but there's exemptions, and Cat County has omitted taxes, so we generally don't have any… much to do… the exemptions have a lot to do, the omitted taxes are very small that I deal with. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Kathy, you want to move on to the next one there? E2 Gowanda HS Library: So just, I kind of wanted to just show this then on… E2 Gowanda HS Library: What it… how it impacts an
028individual tax bill, if you want to maybe blow that up. E2 Gowanda HS Library: So this is a town, or this is a taxpayer in the town of Palins. E2 Gowanda HS Library: you can keep it down so that we could just see those numbers bigger, that'd be great. So you can see, kind of, so it's 3 different years of taxes. E2 Gowanda HS Library: So it kind of showed you what their equalization rate, and it shows you there, there's that minus 6% that was shown on the previous one. So, if they… this household doesn't have any exemptions, so the taxable value remains at the $100,000. E2 Gowanda HS Library: So the tax rate per thousand, the tax rate per thousand gets calculated on a spreadsheet that is captured from the full value. E2 Gowanda
029HS Library: So there's kind of a… there's… all that other stuff goes into this. But you can see that their tax rate per thousand was fairly flat the last two years, but now it's gone up $3 this past year per thousand. E2 Gowanda HS Library: So, then when you look at this tax bill, what happened was, again, the first two years were relatively flat. This year, it's going up $302 for this individual home. E2 Gowanda HS Library: So there's the percentage of the… so their tax bill went down almost 3%, down 0.6, and then up 13.4%, even though the district's levy went up 1%, 1%, 1.2. So that's where… E2 Gowanda HS Library: it kind of proves the fact that, really, there's no correlation between our levy and what happens with their tax bill. Additionally,
030they have star savings. Those star savings, you know, went down the first year, or year two in the middle. E2 Gowanda HS Library: It's relatively flat here, so if you want to scroll down just a little bit, Kathy. E2 Gowanda HS Library: just kind of shows again. So, after the star, they went down 1%, up 1%, and then went up 15%. So, it's kind of, E2 Gowanda HS Library: That's just kind of showing that there's… What's impacting everything. E2 Gowanda HS Library: And that's all I really have. I don't know if anybody has any questions. I know I do kind of touch on this topic, but it's really for the people out there to understand. E2 Gowanda HS Library: I didn't hear Zach screaming. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Jackie yelled at me. E2 Gowanda HS
031Library: It's for a good cost. Yeah. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Expect calls. Yeah. I mean, it's really so much to help you guys kind of be able to answer those questions, or send… E2 Gowanda HS Library: So, in layman's terms… Just to summarize. E2 Gowanda HS Library: the amount, the actual dollar amount that the tax bills increase is based on the assessments, and therefore the calculated full market value, independent of what we're doing with the tax bill. Yeah, New York State sucks at equalization rate, so if they haven't had a reassessment in the townships, that's why the New York State will keep E2 Gowanda HS Library: Kind of decreasing that value and changing it until they go back up to 100. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Harvest that when you do a rebound. E2 Gowanda HS
032Library: Yeah, for sure. Yeah, for sure. E2 Gowanda HS Library: So yeah, you got it, Sue. Alright. Well, sometimes I feel like an alternate, a little bit alternate explanation with different… E2 Gowanda HS Library: like, I don't necessarily know what an equalization rate is, but I understand the fact that it is… it has to do with my assessed value of my home, independent of what the school district is doing with their taxes. Correct. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Yep. E2 Gowanda HS Library: That's all I have. Yep. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Stick's screaming. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Going up next. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Thank you. Thanks, sir. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Mouse, please. Sorry. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Thank you, everybody. This is what I wanted to give, share with you in August, but again,
033unfortunately, I wasn't here. I really want to talk about our district as a professional learning community, and just kind of reiterate some of the concepts and things I've talked about along the way with our E2 Gowanda HS Library: more veteran board members, and then bring our newer ones up to speed, but kind of level set and talk about really where we are at as a district, and what this means. Sometimes we'll talk about PLC, I have some of my slogans I say, but I wanted to share where they come from, and kind of share the logic, the research behind what we're doing as a district. E2 Gowanda HS Library: So, here's my Panther. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Believe it or not, I think… I say the fundamental purpose of school is for all students to
034achieve at high levels, and learning is the goal. Obviously, teaching and all the other stuff, and that's certainly part of it, but at the end of the day, we want students to learn what we feel is important for them to know and be able to do. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Let's talk about the foundation of success. I tried to give this E2 Gowanda HS Library: this particular quote at all our opening day meetings, and pretty much every time I could talk about it. It's this concept with our faculty and staff about the sense of urgency. E2 Gowanda HS Library: you know, I'm starting my 33rd year in this business, feeling like the proverbial geezer at this point. I don't feel that way, but I look in the mirror and, you know, what time does to
035you. But anyway, you know, I've been doing this stuff for 33 years. E2 Gowanda HS Library: And I've had plenty of time to get things right and learn and improve my practice, whether as a teacher, principal, or even my current role. E2 Gowanda HS Library: But the point is, for teachers and people we work with and me too, that our students are only with us for a very, very short period of time. They're passing through this. I can't wait 33 years to get it right. So, we really need to truly act with a sense of urgency, is every day and every class, everything truly matters to the students we're serving. E2 Gowanda HS Library: And I think sometimes, you know, I get guilty of this, but we forget about that. E2 Gowanda HS Library: But
036I try to put that upon our faculty. We just can't wait to get things right. E2 Gowanda HS Library: So… For years, I was struggling, you know, figuring out what is the best framework for E2 Gowanda HS Library: for school improvement. And really, I came upon E2 Gowanda HS Library: about this notion of a professional learning community. So I want to share with the why, that we, as… E2 Gowanda HS Library: district embarked on this journey for the last 4 or 5 years, but now I want us to show you some positives at the end. So I'm not going to tell you all the stuff and blabber, you know, I want to show you some results. So I share the sense of urgency, but the stuff that we work on here in the district is
037really based on research. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Robert Marzano did some important studies called, like, 90-90-90. And what he did, they looked at folks on high-achieving, high poverty districts who were really exceeding E2 Gowanda HS Library: what you'd expect them to do. And what they found was that there's a laser focus on student achievement. E2 Gowanda HS Library: And there's a focus on data-driven decisions. When we go through this presentation, our focus is on learning, student achievement. E2 Gowanda HS Library: data that helps determine if students are learning or not. So it's not a mystery, we're doing assessments and collecting data. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Where was that effective school research was done probably in the 80s and 90s? Like, what is an effective school? So if you go back in the 60s, this colon
038report came out, which, E2 Gowanda HS Library: Concluded at the time, the 60s, that failing background was the most important factor that determined student achievement. E2 Gowanda HS Library: So really what it says is, schools don't make a difference. And at this point, 60s. And that drove a lot of policy and thinking about how students learn. E2 Gowanda HS Library: But, when the 80s rolled around, the 90s, you know, that's not necessarily found to be true. E2 Gowanda HS Library: And Lazate and his group had this effective school research. So, we found schools that, despite their background, really performed well. So, I don't know if the family really had that much to do versus other factors. And what they determined, he found, is one, effective schools have E2 Gowanda HS Library: effective instructional leadership, have
039a clear and focused mission, think about a blueprint for success. E2 Gowanda HS Library: safe and orderly environment, you think about things we do facility-wise to make sure it's safe orderly, a climate of high expectations, and what I would determine there is high expectations for students is grade-level instruction. E2 Gowanda HS Library: for the standards defined by New York State. That's high expectations. I mean, I know we want them to behave and stuff like that, but that, when we're talking language, that's what I'm referring to. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Frequent monitoring of student progress, so when we start talking about our collaborative teams and the four essential questions to ask, you've got to monitor student progress. How do you know if people are learning or not? Oh, that's important to know. Positive homeschool relations, and
040opportunity to learn, and time on task. E2 Gowanda HS Library: So, those are things that affect the schools do. And then I want to put into the example of John Hattie, this is just warning. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Hattie, I'm gonna share some of this work with you in a second, because it kind of gives you the research piece of what we do, is Hattie has done a meta-meta analysis. He's taken a look at, like. E2 Gowanda HS Library: 2,100 studies across the globe, and did a meta-analysis, and found out, put them in chunks, what are things that really work, and have an effect on student achievement. E2 Gowanda HS Library: But what doesn't? And I'm gonna share some of those with you, and show how we tie those in. E2 Gowanda HS Library: So,
041what's professional ranking, though? Talk about a PLC. E2 Gowanda HS Library: It… the Professional Learning Community is our district as a whole. E2 Gowanda HS Library: But we have the process which educators work collaboratively in recurring site schools of inquiry and action research to achieve better results for students. I got a typo in there, I apologize, but E2 Gowanda HS Library: It… Teachers' work will be clever work, an assumption. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Key to improve learning for students is continuous job-embedded learning for educators. E2 Gowanda HS Library: So, it's really about the teachers working collectively together with the belief that they can impact student achievement that's really going to impact, student learning. And, like, say, in the districts at the LCA teachers just work in collaboratively, sometimes it's a little impact. E2 Gowanda HS
042Library: So, let me talk about Patty's research with you real quick. E2 Gowanda HS Library: So, effect size is a measure of the magnitude of a given approach. E2 Gowanda HS Library: So, if you have an effect set of zero, it has no influence on student achievement. E2 Gowanda HS Library: The larger the effect size, the more powerful the influence. E2 Gowanda HS Library: The spec size, for example.2, is kind of relatively small. E2 Gowanda HS Library: 0.4 is kind of the medium point, and you can read his book and talk about why he chose that. It's kind of a hinge point. E2 Gowanda HS Library: So, if I just showed up to school in 10th grade, 4th grade, 3rd grade, that alone's a .4. Just showing up, you're gonna learn something. So that's kind
043of the hinge point. Anything above that is a bonus. So, some things are more powerful than just showing up to school, and some things are less powerful than here and now. E2 Gowanda HS Library: So, here I'm gonna give you a little fun tool. E2 Gowanda HS Library: So, you have a little handout in front of you. E2 Gowanda HS Library: And I don't know if you can see on the board, but this is what you have. I have test influences, according to Hattie's research, about impacts on student learning. What I'd like you to take a little bit of time to do is rank them from the most impactful influences to the least impactful. E2 Gowanda HS Library: If you can't see from home, the board has this worksheet in front of them, have collective
044teacher efficacy, socioeconomic status, prior ability, home environment, direct instruction. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Not to be confused with lecturing. We're talking about direct instruction, we're talking about learning targets, setting stage, closure. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Things like that. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Assigning homework, people's favorite. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Self-reported grades? E2 Gowanda HS Library: teacher estimates of achievement, Response to Intervention, or MTSS, And integration of technology. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Give me a couple seconds to kind of think through that, and I'll share the results, and if you need some definitions, what that means, you know, I can show those as well. Some of these are kind of large categories. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Those need to, like, define for you? E2 Gowanda HS Library: Take another minute. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Let's a
045second. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Alright, so… I'm saying, what does anybody think's the most impactful influence on student achievement of these time? E2 Gowanda HS Library: Come on. E2 Gowanda HS Library: It's a collective teacher. E2 Gowanda HS Library: efficacy. Alright, not bad. I agree. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Big nights. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Oh, I would go with… Yeah, the teacher advocacy, direct instruction is also significant. Instruction, triability. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Those are all things that point to somebody being successful, homework, self-reported grades, I would put on the well end. E2 Gowanda HS Library: While homework is a great tool and useful to help refresh after hours, it doesn't necessarily E2 Gowanda HS Library: Help a student, in my opinion, if they didn't get it in the classroom, heaven, they're not going to
046get it on their own at home. E2 Gowanda HS Library: So… Mr. Zachary Chair, anything, any thoughts? E2 Gowanda HS Library: I think assigning homework is, like, one of the least impactful E2 Gowanda HS Library: I agree. I had mine low, I had it low. I had it at 8. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Ready for the big reveal? E2 Gowanda HS Library: Here we go. It's your prize. E2 Gowanda HS Library: And there's plenty more over there. So, according to Hattie's 2016 research meta-analysis, and it's changed a little bit if you get to 2023. This is more data's come, so the numbers have slightly changed, but the concept remains the same. E2 Gowanda HS Library: The 1.57 collective teacher efficacy is generally 1 or 2 in the studies, one of the most powerful influences on
047student achievement. E2 Gowanda HS Library: And I'll tell you here shortly why that's most… E2 Gowanda HS Library: very important for us as a district. And then you go down, signing homework has very little effect, I'd say it has no effect, but if you dig through that a little differently, there's E2 Gowanda HS Library: Probably depends on the level of students. If you look at the research, there's probably as little effect of none, maybe negative in the elementary levels, and then it has a little more positive effect as you go up the chain of grades, and then it really depends on how is it related to the actual learning. So there's some intricacies to that piece. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Home environment, you know, it's a powerful impact, but alone, you know, E2 Gowanda HS
048Library: isn't necessarily a huge driver. Technology seems to be kind of important, but technology generally, at least until AI showed up, I think it's more of a… E2 Gowanda HS Library: inefficiency, you know, I can use PowerPoint or Word and stuff like that, apps to help me, but it doesn't necessarily drive my learning and deeper understanding of the material. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Fire ability, you can dig through this a little bit more. This is that environment and, your identity and the interactions of it. But the point of that is, with teachers, is E2 Gowanda HS Library: You know, teachers just need to know where students are, and help them move forward in their learning. E2 Gowanda HS Library: And then, RTI response intervention. So, that's what it is, but… so that's what it is.
049I can give you some more data later, but these are some of the impacts, and there's about 252 different things that are categorized, like retention as a huge negative impact on student achievement. There's some that… E2 Gowanda HS Library: like, small class size, very small, so there's some things that may surprise with this, but for our purposes, I don't want to focus on these, because we can do these pretty easily. E2 Gowanda HS Library: So, I want to just focus really quickly on collective teacher advocacy, because I think this is where the rubber meets the road for us. E2 Gowanda HS Library: So, the work of collaborative teams that this entire district is divided into when we meet especially an hour a week with our groups, these teams can positively influence student outcomes, including kids
050who are disadvantaged. When you think about us, the impacts, if you look at this stuff. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Collective teacher efficacy is the number one factor influencing student achievement. It is three times the power of the student's socioeconomic status. So, although we may be, quote-unquote, a rural poor school. E2 Gowanda HS Library: We have the ability here to have 3 times the power of the impact on students. It doesn't really matter, I don't want to hear about where kids come from. E2 Gowanda HS Library: we have control. We get teams of teachers believing that, and we're working together professionally, we can make a big, big difference. So I think that's very important to know. So I'm talking about PLC and collaborate teams, all this stuff, it's not really, you know, rah-rah-rah. It's legit stuff,
051and it's based on research, and E2 Gowanda HS Library: So, when we talk about the PLC structure. E2 Gowanda HS Library: The Blueprint for Success. We talk about effective schools briefly, we have our mission, we have our vision, we have things captured, what we're all about. E2 Gowanda HS Library: So, I won't go through this. The four pillars of a PLC is our foundations, mission, vision, goals, values. E2 Gowanda HS Library: We've worked on the Blueprint for Success. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Our fundamental purpose is to ensure all students learn at high levels. Learning's not invitational in our district, it's not just opportunities. I, we, all of us, have to ensure that all students learn at high levels. E2 Gowanda HS Library: And when I say that, you know, we say, learn what? Well. E2
052Gowanda HS Library: It comes down to our collaborative teams identify central standards and skills that all students should know and be able to do as a result of that instruction. That's what I'm talking about. A lot of times that's measured on state tests or not, but that's it. It's not all the other stuff, everything's nice, but those are the razor-sharp focus things on those things. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Three big ideas that we work with, we focus on learning, we're collaborative, results. E2 Gowanda HS Library: The problem that I think I have, and my colleagues can speak to this, is sometimes… I'm gonna show you some real talks of excellence, and I can share some things that aren't great in terms of our work now, but good people in our organization to understand that research
053is real, it needs to impact practice, it's just not some independent thing that hovers around your classroom. E2 Gowanda HS Library: And, I'll show you where we've got people bonding here. E2 Gowanda HS Library: 6 core principles. E2 Gowanda HS Library: We've talked about this. Our collaborative teams, which meet every Tuesday, they focus on four questions. Cyclical patterns. What should students know and be able to do? E2 Gowanda HS Library: Teachers need to wrestle with their standards and what they feel is important, using state assessments and other things to kind of help them do that. You have to measure it. E2 Gowanda HS Library: How do I know a student gives them? How do I know they don't? E2 Gowanda HS Library: And what do you do if they don't? That's where RTI and FSS
054comes in. You gotta give quick remediation to students around those essential standards. And what do you do for kids who get it already? I mean, there's gotta be some sort of enrichment within E2 Gowanda HS Library: the day for those students. And we talked before, I think I shared our master schedules, at least in all… well, the middle and high school had an enrichment period built into them, so we'll work our master schedule around teachers able to do this. And within the elementary school, teams are designed so there's real-time pull-outs. It's more up-to-date between teachers. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Based on the standard. Next, you can pop in if you need to. I'm on a roll. E2 Gowanda HS Library: You are, you're going. I know, 2 cups of coffee, ready to go. So, hey,
055you guys think, Bob, this is all great stuff, you know, people probably doze, and it's all cool, but that's all great, but are we seeing some actual impact? Well, this is trend data from ELA Grade 3, starting in 2021. E2 Gowanda HS Library: It's pretty much where we began our work here. You can see our trend data, we've had 50% of our students' last testing period have proficiency or higher. E2 Gowanda HS Library: it's not nearly enough, we should have 100%, but we were under 30% a few years ago when we started that. So we're making some headway with believing they actually have an impact on students, making sure we're streamlined. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Two things with Fidelity and all those other things. E2 Gowanda HS Library: So that's cool. E2 Gowanda HS Library:
056Book of Grade 3 at a point. E2 Gowanda HS Library: grade 3 math! E2 Gowanda HS Library: It's Grade 3T's really cranking out, making some progress, going right out up there. E2 Gowanda HS Library: 4th grade ELA. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Pretty good when we started, a little dip, but our trend's going back up. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Look at math for grade 4, and I gotta give a shout-out to some of our 4th grade teachers who do an awesome job. Some classes in that building have 100% proficiency or higher this year. E2 Gowanda HS Library: It's because, A, teachers collaborate and work on each other, they're doing grade-level instruction. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Which seems reasonable, but I'll tell you, when I was assistant principal at one point, I was in charge of a
057math department, and the Algebra 2 trick teacher, for, like, a homework, gave kids a word search about rocketry. E2 Gowanda HS Library: I'm like, well, what's that have to do with… I mean, it's cool, I guess, but what's eligible to trade have to do with romantic? That's not grade-level work. E2 Gowanda HS Library: And you're just dooming kids by giving them stuff that's at a grade level, so, that's important. So shout out for there. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Literacy, I actually shared this with you in June. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Our kindergartens last year, started the year. E2 Gowanda HS Library: With very few kids at grade level, I would expect. At the end of kindergarten, 96% were at grade level. E2 Gowanda HS Library: start, finish the year. Ashley, what was the first grade
058benchmark for first graders, or these kids? 100% at Urban. E2 Gowanda HS Library: So, what I'm trying to impart to you, and to my colleagues, is that if we're not… kids are not at grade level, or most of them are at the end of the year, they're at a deficit, and that just snowballs all the way up. So, at this point, kudos to all these people, that's pretty impressive. So, you know, we have some real… I want to show you some things that are good that are happening. E2 Gowanda HS Library: I can show you some things that are not good that are happening, too, but I want to highlight some good stuff. We are moving in the right direction. Clearly. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Our high school's rocking it for the most part. 91%
059graduation rate, that steadily climbed up. That's your graduate… that's your cohort from 2021. We just graduated in June. These are our New York State Regents Exam. E2 Gowanda HS Library: pass rates, you know, 65% or higher. I don't have a comparison to the state peers, it's not available yet, but let me show you the last year's, 2024. This is your high school regions exams. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Every Regence we offered, kudos to our departments for working E2 Gowanda HS Library: how I asked them to do. Everyone exists. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Except the other way, which kind of tied, exceeded the proficiency rate in New York State. E2 Gowanda HS Library: 2024. E2 Gowanda HS Library: And I don't know 2025's not out yet, I'm sure it's very similar, but we're seeing some lot
060of success. So stuff I preach about, talk about. E2 Gowanda HS Library: You know, we have some very professional people in the field working with children who… R. E2 Gowanda HS Library: urgency. E2 Gowanda HS Library: It will change the culture of this district from a teaching organization to a learning one. And it's a slow grind, but we're making things happen. Ash, you want to comment? E2 Gowanda HS Library: I see a lot of stuff day-to-day in your work. E2 Gowanda HS Library: No, I mean, I think that… E2 Gowanda HS Library: when we first started doing the work of collaborative teams, that folks were just concerned it might be just a new initiative that would lose its momentum from district administrators after a year or two. E2 Gowanda HS Library: So, I'm excited. Well,
061it's not an initiative. I don't remember what movie I'm supposed to. I was about to say that. Sorry. So I needed to talk so I could be… my mind could clip. So, I don't remember what movie I'm gonna quote, but one, it's not an initiative. E2 Gowanda HS Library: It's really a way of life for us. It's… when people talk about, you know, Bob, my plate's full? This is the plate. E2 Gowanda HS Library: the work that goes into this, the planning, the preparation, the assessment, the discussion about student achievement, that is the focus of a student teacher's work. It's not an initiative, it ain't going away. Just take over. No, I don't… I wasn't gonna quote anything. That's what I was going to say, was that I think folks might have thought that's where
062we were headed, but… E2 Gowanda HS Library: Nope, it is… it's how we operate now, and so I think our staff has really seen some benefits from working together, and the data doesn't lie. And yeah, so we certainly have room to grow and still… E2 Gowanda HS Library: There's still gains to be made, but we're moving in a really good direction with E2 Gowanda HS Library: The work that the teachers are doing collectively. E2 Gowanda HS Library: So I think the quote was from a, I think, a Lisa Cannon movie? Not a uniform, it's a way of life. Again, I can't tell you everything is all copacetic and hunky-dory. We have a lot of areas, except within a subpopulation of students, maybe some grade levels, we still have work to be done. E2 Gowanda HS
063Library: But I'm really excited about this year, we have… really good years with a lot of energy that are really going to push us in directions that are really positive. E2 Gowanda HS Library: What's everything else we got going on? We've got a lot of good people doing a lot of good stuff. E2 Gowanda HS Library: From food service to transportation, to coaches, to, you know, good stuff, but we're just focused. E2 Gowanda HS Library: No. Any questions for anybody that can answer? E2 Gowanda HS Library: Mark's got some, Mark's got some. E2 Gowanda HS Library: I realize it's hard to get 100% of how much of your staff actually Has bought into this. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Well, I'm gonna tell you 100%. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Because on the Taliban is, I don't
064care if you believe it, you better act it. E2 Gowanda HS Library: So, I think that's a significant portion of our. We have a few people E2 Gowanda HS Library: The thing about teaching is people tend… It's a profession. E2 Gowanda HS Library: But it's a different type of profession, because, you know, a doctor, you're really borrowing from a body of research to inform the practice. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Teaching seems to be, to some extent, isolated from a body of research, because people teach on feeling and how they think it should go. So, in recent training, you know, I could show you all this evidence, but people were… E2 Gowanda HS Library: Admin. E2 Gowanda HS Library: That homework and a home environment were the number one predictors of student achievement. E2 Gowanda HS
065Library: So, I mean, that's okay opinion, I don't have a problem with that, but when you're showing the research, you can't move your thinking. E2 Gowanda HS Library: that's where I get some of the resistance, because if you just think the home environments are number one. E2 Gowanda HS Library: you know, it impacts their achievement, then if you're already dismissing kids who come into the building, and you feel you have, you know, I can't do anything for these kids, they look at their homes, which is not true. So that's where I think I have the disconnect. E2 Gowanda HS Library: But I would say that's probably a large majority of it? I don't think we have one staff member who thinks that if they work in isolation, their results are going to be better than
066if they work collaboratively. I think everybody believes in the collaboration piece. I think some would prefer not to do it for an additional hour on Tuesdays, but… E2 Gowanda HS Library: we have really great, productive work going on during those hours. Really good, and I think kudos to people because they like it, but part of the issue was, our school day is pretty short, people always want PD, food offered after school, or in the summer, no one's show up. So, you know, I can't… E2 Gowanda HS Library: It's difficult to… E2 Gowanda HS Library: you know, train people and give them what they need if we don't have the time. So we built the time in, and now we got it, and it's been, for the most part, working out. So to your question, they're
067all on the board. E2 Gowanda HS Library: When you take the show on the road. E2 Gowanda HS Library: I mean, it's… It's showing what… E2 Gowanda HS Library: Working for a number of years. E2 Gowanda HS Library: And there is food. E2 Gowanda HS Library: I'm not sure. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Hold on. E2 Gowanda HS Library: understands it. E2 Gowanda HS Library: How do we get them from… this presentation to help… You understand? Yeah. E2 Gowanda HS Library: I mean, you can do small groups here and there that… That's it. E2 Gowanda HS Library: I'm impressed with this, in terms of how it's done. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Well, I mean, I don't know, let me think about it. I mean, we could do PR stuff, I can write articles, you know, inform
068the beauty, and educate them about what we're up to. Probably should, I mean… E2 Gowanda HS Library: 25 years ago, I went to, E2 Gowanda HS Library: School Boards Conference, and the City of Rochester came up and said. E2 Gowanda HS Library: We have poor students, we have… E2 Gowanda HS Library: Students from just broken families, and so on, and they gave a whole list of reasons, and I said, this is the reasons we can't teach them. E2 Gowanda HS Library: The next school came up on the presentation said, We bring our teachers in. E2 Gowanda HS Library: You have poor students, you have students from broken homes. E2 Gowanda HS Library: It's your job to teach them. E2 Gowanda HS Library: I could reach me. E2 Gowanda HS Library: And, I mean, it was
069two totally different approaches in terms of how you handled it. E2 Gowanda HS Library: So, a lot of times I get on people's cases when they say, we have poor students, we have disadvantaged students, etc. E2 Gowanda HS Library: You're making excuses, you're not… Yeah, true, but… E2 Gowanda HS Library: And we can always seek to learn. And the research bears out. E2 Gowanda HS Library: We know what the research says. We know we can combat the negative impacts of some of those things. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Three times a flax, or more. E2 Gowanda HS Library: You can buy an RTI, you can buy some of those things I've shared. It's a pretty powerful system. E2 Gowanda HS Library: you know, it's gonna improve. Again, I can't say it's all great, but it's… E2
070Gowanda HS Library: This is the loud section over here. Anyway, first of all, I was gonna say, as soon as you start talking meta-analysis and research, you got me, 100%. I was on it. E2 Gowanda HS Library: But anyway, aside from that, how would you place, or where would you place, attendance concerns in this? You know, like, that kind of, to me, falls with home life, socioeconomic status. E2 Gowanda HS Library: But that's a little more hard-line issue E2 Gowanda HS Library: When the student's not here, we can't teach them. E2 Gowanda HS Library: So, how does that… where does that fall? Well, it happens with John Hattie says about attendance, but what I will tell you, if the kids aren't here, you can't… E2 Gowanda HS Library: Yeah, so, attendance is crucial, I think,
071to student success. E2 Gowanda HS Library: I think what we've experienced is… E2 Gowanda HS Library: COVID kind of changed people's perception about attending school. It seemed to be less important. E2 Gowanda HS Library: There became a disconnect about the importance of school and looking E2 Gowanda HS Library: And I think that's starting… at least anecdotally, starting to change a little bit, but kids need… E2 Gowanda HS Library: That was just important. So I think all the stuff, in terms of education things we do internally, it really mostly applies just to people who aren't here. E2 Gowanda HS Library: So what do we do? And what, what… E2 Gowanda HS Library: Well, where does that fall on this, too? What's our initiative, or what is the plate? Well, the real magic goal for this stuff.
072What I always go back to is this. I think instruction at Tier 1 needs to be engaging for students. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Especially at the high school level. E2 Gowanda HS Library: I can go to ChatGPT, Internet, and I always use the cause of World War I. If I come to school and someone's gonna lecture me about the cause of World War I, I'm just gonna zone out. E2 Gowanda HS Library: So, in that sense, instruction really needs teachers, and there are, kind of adapting, you facilitate engaging lessons that encourage people. E2 Gowanda HS Library: I'm trying to best I can to relate that to other things. I think E2 Gowanda HS Library: really good Tier 1 instruction. Then I think there's a sense of connectedness. You know, not just the academic piece, you
073know, connect kids here through… and we do sports, music. E2 Gowanda HS Library: all the extras, but I think kids need a… well, especially older kids, they have a purpose to come, and I think that's… the secondary level's always been a struggle. E2 Gowanda HS Library: And I go, it's just a really good, engaging team-wide instruction. E2 Gowanda HS Library: make it important. Send Ross to their house? Sure. And he's done that, yeah, they both have. Yeah, they've been there. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Are you talking? E2 Gowanda HS Library: Yeah, Barb and I just joined a meeting in E2 Gowanda HS Library: Salamenca, with several other districts in the region right before the school year started, specifically talking about attendance initiatives. Actually, Gwanda's average daily attendance was the highest in the region, so that
074was exciting. So we got to share some of the things that we find that are working, but we also heard from other teams about things that they're doing, and so we've taken those strategies back to the building principals so that when they're meeting with their attendance teams. E2 Gowanda HS Library: You know, they can kind of replicate some of those strategies that have been most impactful, and then we just want to have consistent messaging going out between all three buildings, which I think all three principles E2 Gowanda HS Library: are aligned with, you know, after so many days, you know, this is what we're doing for the first step, this is what we do, you know, this is what we do after 3 days, after 5 days, after 10 days, etc. Just sending those frequent
075notices home to families. I think sometimes you don't realize how many days have actually accumulated over the course of, E2 Gowanda HS Library: You know, the year, and the impact that it has, so we're gonna… E2 Gowanda HS Library: keep going. It's a standing agenda item on our administrative meetings, and I know each building principal has it on, you know, as an agenda item with their buildings, just to target it, and have teams targeting attendance and making personal connections with families and kids. You know, at the elementary school, it's more about the families. Middle and high, you know, you're having some more conversation with kids. E2 Gowanda HS Library: We… the kids spoke out at Salinca when we met, and they said the number one deterrent to coming to school is a lack of student
076engagement in the classrooms, because post-COVID especially, so much of their, their grades depend on what they can complete electronically, right? Through Schoology, through Google Classroom. E2 Gowanda HS Library: So they said, you know, if I don't have to physically be there, and I can just do things, you know, on my Chromebook or on my laptop at home. E2 Gowanda HS Library: So, we took… we brought that back to our teams and just talked about making sure that kids feel engaged, and that they have, an increase in, you know, collaboration with their peers or hands-on learning opportunities. So, we learned a lot, it was great. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Okay, so I have nothing further for that. I'll bring us to our second reading of policy 5235, school buildings and indoor facilities. Do we have any
077discussion? E2 Gowanda HS Library: With no discussion, it will be on the next agenda for approval. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Board of Education Communications, have none. Do you have any committee reports since our last meeting? The, Building Committee met last Friday, with the team of young and right. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Sochevsky, participated. We got a chance to do a deeper dive on the presentation that was publicly given, prior, E2 Gowanda HS Library: A lot of good information there, and I think they answered all our questions, and we're ready for next steps. E2 Gowanda HS Library: I don't know if there's anything Zach or Brittany you'd like to add? E2 Gowanda HS Library: Kind of like you said, I think it was well-informative when we were able to drill down on some of the issues
078that we had some concern about. Yep. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Yeah, if you could mark your schedule on October 15th, Wednesday, I'd like to have a board meeting that evening. E2 Gowanda HS Library: And it's not on your current agenda. The only business in front of you is we fortunate to pass a series of resolutions to get the capital project from proposed to actually out to the public. Then on the 16th, that all goes to consult. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Well, not promoting it and doing all the things we need to, for a December vote. I don't know… should be a pretty brief agenda, some resolutions. I don't know if you want to start at 6.30, you want to do it earlier, or keep the same time and be done early? E2 Gowanda HS Library:
079First City volleyball game in Randolph at 6.30. E2 Gowanda HS Library: What do you want to do? Do it earlier. Do something earlier? E2 Gowanda HS Library: People think? I would rather do 5, personally. We'll be brief, let's just… E2 Gowanda HS Library: We don't put anything else on the agenda except the capital product stuff. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Any other committee reports? E2 Gowanda HS Library: Misleading? I guess. E2 Gowanda HS Library: the… Delegate voting, so for NISBO, E2 Gowanda HS Library: As far as a district, we don't have a voting delegate as of right now. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Oh. E2 Gowanda HS Library: willing to take that on, but I would also ask that I take an alternate with me, if anybody's willing. E2 Gowanda HS Library: There is a dinner coming
080up to listen to all the resolutions, and I believe the booklet came out yesterday or the day before, as far as all the different resolutions, so… E2 Gowanda HS Library: I know it's a lot to read through, so I'm trying to give everybody kind of a better heads-up now, this year, than I did last year. E2 Gowanda HS Library: That piece. E2 Gowanda HS Library: That's all I have for that. E2 Gowanda HS Library: So you're willing to do that? I am willing to do it, but I would ask if there is anybody willing to be an alternate. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Or if somebody else wants it, by any means, like… I would be an alternate one. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Per second. E2 Gowanda HS Library: So, we have nothing else for committee
081reports, that'll bring us to our board roundtable. Mark? Sure. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Terrific. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Basically… The only comment that I've had E2 Gowanda HS Library: Now, since the last meeting in public is… Pickleball, of course. E2 Gowanda HS Library: the… tennis courts, I mean, it was pretty lighted so that they could play pickleball. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Apparently, with the deterioration of the… E2 Gowanda HS Library: It needs to be relined? Okay. The pickleball? I think it's important to rewind. It's cracked, and it's, like, it's terrible. Is it? Yeah, it's definitely dangerous to be out there and play. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Well, let's look into that rewind and see what it costs to fix it temporarily. See if we can. E2 Gowanda HS Library: I mean, I don't play pickleball.
082Yeah, as we talked, we did fix it the last project. Unfortunately, I think, if you looked at… E2 Gowanda HS Library: condition of the ground that's the parking lots, it's the same ground. So, there's some underlying issues there. There's a big interest in pickleball, especially in the community, and I've heard a few complaints of people going up to Collins because they can't come right here in town. E2 Gowanda HS Library: I know we tried to do the indoor stuff for… with Community Ed, and we can maybe do that, at least again? Well, that went well, it did go well, but I know the person that was doing the pickleball has now transitioned to doing something else for Community Ed, so they won't be doing that this season. So, we'll see if we can drum up
083somebody who wants to do that, at least, and still look at the outside. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Young had an opinion on that, right, that they knew of a new material or a different style. They're building ones right now, I think, yeah. We saw them, that's what we saw, yeah. They pulled up might be… E2 Gowanda HS Library: Yeah, good idea. We have to find the long-range facility planning, because, I mean, I think last board, people talk about outdoor basketball court, tennis, pickleball, I mean, we definitely could… people talk about park right now here, so it's definitely something… Or maybe even at the elementary school, I mean, maybe there's a spot for it, so I think that's part of, kind of, a discussion for the next… E2 Gowanda HS Library: But yeah, I'll see what
084we can do about it, what we have now. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Maybe the village could put one over at Gateway. There you go. That's an idea. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Okay, second item was you… there was a mention of digital progress reports going out. E2 Gowanda HS Library: How does that tie in with you? E2 Gowanda HS Library: proposed grading system. E2 Gowanda HS Library: We'd be interested in hearing more about that. Not tonight, but… Whoa. E2 Gowanda HS Library: The only update to the new proposed grading system is it's actually… it's no longer proposed. We did switch to standards-based report carding at the elementary school, so previously they were skills. We actually changed the language so it matches the language of the New York State standards. The progress reports, that was a request
085for staff to bring back, because they felt that they didn't get to communicate as frequently as they would like, and that E2 Gowanda HS Library: formal way of an actual progress report. So, all we do with the progress reports is it's just one more report that's pulled in eSchool, which is where our grades are generated, and it's going to match the same language that you'll see on the standards-based report card. So, at the elementary level, and we're on trimesters at the elementary level, now you'll see a progress report midway through each trimester, and it'll be that same language. E2 Gowanda HS Library: At the middle level and the high school level, we are still using the traditional grading system, 0 to 100, so you'll still… the progress reports that are coming out, the high school's
086going to be doing them. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Twice each quarter, the middle school's starting with once each quarter. Those progress reports, again, will just match a traditional report card that you see. We have not made moves to standards-based grading at the middle and high school. E2 Gowanda HS Library: The other change that we made last year was the, E2 Gowanda HS Library: The Learning Habits Rubric, that is going to continue in our AIS and Flex classes, and again, the language will just match. So the progress reports is just, it's the same language that you see on any report card, it's just you're getting it in half the time instead of at the 10 or the triangle string. E2 Gowanda HS Library: And how does that… Arrive to families that don't have the internet. E2
087Gowanda HS Library: We can print any report… progress report or report card. We've always offered that to families. We'll still continue to mail home their report cards. The progress reports will be available digitally, and anybody that may have trouble accessing them, we will print and send home with students, or we can mail them. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Okay. Last item is regarding the capital projects. I still have some questions on… Hmm. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Spending that much of our reserves on Lightsen. E2 Gowanda HS Library: seating. Seating. We don't do that for that much seating for any other sports. E2 Gowanda HS Library: And the big thing I thought about it in terms of AI is coming. E2 Gowanda HS Library: And it's going to require a lot more E2 Gowanda HS Library: We
088may require a lot more infrastructure here. I'd rather not spend our resources E2 Gowanda HS Library: I don't say on sports. I'm not anti-sports, I'm… E2 Gowanda HS Library: not spend all our resources there. If we don't know what we're going to need for AI, E2 Gowanda HS Library: I don't fully understand AI, you know, I'll be the first to admit it, but… E2 Gowanda HS Library: It's a fear out there, I guess. E2 Gowanda HS Library: That's all I had. E2 Gowanda HS Library: And I did really… I was really impressed with that. E2 Gowanda HS Library: For the report you gave tonight. Oh, thank you. Thank you. My pleasure. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Is it? E2 Gowanda HS Library: My turn. Yep. E2 Gowanda HS Library: I don't know about that area. E2
089Gowanda HS Library: I know, it was kind of long… E2 Gowanda HS Library: kind of doom and gloom there toward the end, just saying. It's coming. On the horizon, you know, like… Anyway, welcome back to school! So, I don't know, I don't have much, it's just exciting, it's always exciting to hear about homecoming coming, and all those things, Spirit Week, and… E2 Gowanda HS Library: Spirit Parade is, like, my favorite day of the entire year. I have that on Mondays. And I am not shy about that at all. So, that would be the Thursday before, E2 Gowanda HS Library: Homecoming? The… E2 Gowanda HS Library: football game Friday, and then the dance on Saturday, and it's always a fun time. So the sports teams are doing good, volleyball's kicking butt, football won their game. E2
090Gowanda HS Library: all the things are positive, the musical's coming along. Not real sure how I feel about it being in the fall versus the winter, the high school. E2 Gowanda HS Library: I don't know, something, maybe a topic for a later day. I feel like a lot of kids are kind of being split between E2 Gowanda HS Library: things that they like to do because of the timing of that, my daughter included. Because it was… the high school musical was always in the winter, and then they changed it now to the fall. The high school play was always in the… And so any of the… like, my daughter wants to do cheer and volleyball, and she also really wanted to do the musical, but, I mean, you can't do everything. And I know other
091students that have done other… you know, they've quit the sports because they want to do the musical. E2 Gowanda HS Library: And I just… it's a lot, and the fall's very busy, and there's not so much going on in the winter. So, that's just my thing with that, but… but, but it's still… it's all good stuff, though. We'll figure it out. It'll shake out, one way or the other, so… So anyway, welcome back, and… E2 Gowanda HS Library: Don't forget that AI is looming. I think that Sue was reading my notes, because a bunch of the stuff that she said. I am going to go back on, I know he talked about pickleball, but I'm going to mention the track again, because I know I had this discussion, like, right after I first started, I
092think I mentioned it, and I was the community ed doing the bootcamp this weekend. E2 Gowanda HS Library: And that other side of the track is that imperfection as you're walking up to it, you can completely see it, and I'm really shocked that nobody complained about it. E2 Gowanda HS Library: while track was going on, because it looks bad. It's definitely lumped, and it's not flat, and it… E2 Gowanda HS Library: it doesn't look good. So, if somebody can get out there and take a glance at it, it's, like, right on the other side. I walked over there. Yeah, so, the imperfection still looks pretty bad. So, doom and gloom, I'm done with that. But I'm gonna jump to all the fun stuff, because I'm so excited about all the sports going on. I mean,
093I heard the volleyball teams are doing amazing. Cross country was awesome last night, they had their, E2 Gowanda HS Library: Their senior night last night, because it's always early, because E2 Gowanda HS Library: It's at the Conservation Club. Super excited about that. Football, I'm definitely gonna have to talk about football a little bit. 33-20, they had a great opening game against Akron. I gotta give some props to Winter Mentley-Peters. He won the Heart of a Champion. E2 Gowanda HS Library: award, and well-deserved, so I definitely have to do a shout-out for him. Pardon? Yeah, exactly. So, it's Character Athlete Award, so, it was a great thing for him to get. I do know that we have Media Day. That was so great to see all the photos out there with Media Day with all the
094sports. I love that. I hope we keep that up, and I hope we do that for every season, because I think that the kids really enjoyed that. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Which helped with our banners for the boosters. We actually just ordered the… we have a person doing those, now, a different person doing them now. She actually just ordered the senior banners today, which I feel bad because cross-country doesn't get them, but your senior night's way too early. So hopefully those will be in the next week. E2 Gowanda HS Library: And then I have October 9th is the Spirit Parade, so hopefully everybody's getting ramped up about that. That is Haunted Mansion this year, so I hope the kids are super excited. 6 p.m. that night, right in front of Hollywood Theater, the kids will
095be there early, just for parents, so they know, hot dogs and snacks and everything will be there for the kids that night, because… Nice. Yeah, boosters are doing that again this year. E2 Gowanda HS Library: And the Powder Puff game will be that night. Yeah. And… don't forget this Friday's first home cut… first home game for football. It's… but it's at the Pine Valley, it's the Pine Valley home game. And… Alumni Weekend. Oh! E2 Gowanda HS Library: September 19th through the 21st, tons of stuff going on. Hop on the Gwanda Boosters page. There's a lot involved, a lot of people nominated. We had Mark Leas as one of the nominated people. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Everybody loves Mark Leon, so… But yeah, hop on the Guana Boosters page, there's this QR code, full agenda, full
096weekend of events going on. What day is the induction? That's on Sunday this year. Because it's a home football game, we didn't want to conflict with that. We actually have, an alumni that's going to be singing, and playing music, Joe Wiens. Joe Wiens. Is it Wiens? E2 Gowanda HS Library: I'm sorry, yeah, Joe Wiens, he's actually coming from… Puerto Rico. Is that where he lives? Oh, yeah. I didn't know that, but he doesn't live here anymore, but he's an alumni, and he's gonna be singing there on Sunday. I don't remember the time, I think it's 4, but pull up the agenda, and all the information's there, a lot of activities going around town that weekend. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Panther Proud. Yeah, sign up for the Panther Proud. Wait, there's… everybody should sign up for
097that. It's a great event. E2 Gowanda HS Library: And lots of other events going on that weekend, too. To name them, I can't even name them all right now. Yeah, and this is the big weekend that we… that's the big weekend that we raise all our money for the scholarships for the graduating seniors. We have the golf tournament on Saturday, which, sorry, it's already sold out. E2 Gowanda HS Library: It's been sold out. It sells out fairly quickly, yeah. So, I think that's all I have. Well, thank you. Hopefully it was a lot of good information. E2 Gowanda HS Library: So, Mark, actually, tomorrow I'm in a workshop about how to prepare students and what changes schools need to make with looming AI, so I will let you know at our next board meeting what
098the experts are suggesting in terms of what changes, we need to make. That's tomorrow morning. E2 Gowanda HS Library: I'll send you the link if you want. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Also, Mrs. Newell, Ms. Girardi, and myself, we have joined a regional professional learning community, so we'll be with a group from Western New York talking about changes that have to be made with Portrait of a Graduate and New York Expi… Inspires, not Expires, New York Inspires, so we'll be part of a planning committee about what pathways schools need to, E2 Gowanda HS Library: have available to kids, and a lot of the things that we need to E2 Gowanda HS Library: adopt or adapt, with the changes that are coming from New York State. And then lastly, I just wanted to say, I think we've
099talked about this at the board meetings before, but just wanted to E2 Gowanda HS Library: put it out there that we did bring Seneca language to the elementary school. That has been met with a lot of, positivity down at the elementary level, so that's new for us, so now we're in line with Silver Creek and Lakeshore, all three districts that are offering that. So we do have it now in all three buildings, so early surveying of our kids, they're loving that class, they're bringing what they're learning back into their classrooms, and so that's been… that's been really nice, so our kids are in a E2 Gowanda HS Library: a full rotation, every class is getting that course, so that's been new and really nice at the elementary level. Good. I got that feedback from them,
100so… Yeah, good. I'm good. I had nothing. E2 Gowanda HS Library: I'm good. E2 Gowanda HS Library: So I brought all of that Erie County School Board resolutions. E2 Gowanda HS Library: stop and voting delegate. So, I'll sign you up as a voting delegate. If you have or come across an alternative, let me know, and I'll sign them up. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Brittany, sorry, that's right. And then the, resolutions dinner, did you want to attend that, or… And then for… It's open to everybody, too, right? The resolutions dinner, I think is how I read that? E2 Gowanda HS Library: That is how I read it, too. Even if you're not an alternate boarding voting member, anybody wants to just go there. I think that was an initiative… E2 Gowanda HS Library: To try to
101help inform. E2 Gowanda HS Library: board members, because instead of just going through the booklet, it's nice just to kind of conversate about the stuff, so… If there's anyone else that would like to attend, let me know, and I can answer to that. E2 Gowanda HS Library: And then there is the, special event coming up that, that Dr. Anderson had talked about, the dinner and the convers… dinner and conversation with the SCD Commissioner. E2 Gowanda HS Library: That's gonna be at Michael's Banquet Center in Hamburg, and that is on… Oh, October 7th? E2 Gowanda HS Library: So, if anyone wants to attend that, I need to know, you know, as soon as you can, so I can get everyone registered for that. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Yes. That's something… yeah, I was gonna say that's
102you too, Zach. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Is there anyone else that knows they want to attend that? E2 Gowanda HS Library: I'm going. What kind of zone? E2 Gowanda HS Library: it, starts, well, between 5.30 and 6.15 is registration and networking. Dinner's at 6.15. Okay. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Oh, yeah, I love networking. E2 Gowanda HS Library: I think that's… That's it. E2 Gowanda HS Library: One of the things I just wanted to… we had a lot of… a lot of questions and a lot of, agenda things. E2 Gowanda HS Library: For this meeting tonight, I just want to remind the board members that we release the agenda on Fridays, and the board members have access to that agenda Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Monday, it releases to the public, so if you want to pull
103something out of consent to talk about, let me know. E2 Gowanda HS Library: So that we're doing it, and the public has a heads up. So if we're pulling something out of consent just before a board meeting, or if we're scheduling an executive session to discuss issues, like we did tonight, the public has no notification of that. E2 Gowanda HS Library: So the agenda is out there early for you, so you can let me know those things so I can change that agenda before the public gets it Monday or Monday. You know, just so we can get it out there before the meeting. We really should be making… all of the changes we made for tonight's meeting really should happen prior. The public should have notice of all of that. E2 Gowanda HS Library: So,
104in the future, just please give me a heads up. You're welcome to text me. I can make quick changes quickly, even on my cell phone, I can make a quick change, just so the posts are there. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Can we bump up our access to that? E2 Gowanda HS Library: Or is that… I would have to contact… E2 Gowanda HS Library: board docs, and even… see, I mean, sometimes we're not ready with our agenda, so we release the agenda either on Thursday or Friday. As soon as we release it, you have access, and you have access. E2 Gowanda HS Library: for… right now, it's 24 hours, but I… I mean, sorry, 48 hours, but I can ask them if we can make that longer. Okay. I just wondered if we could work. We
105might not even have an agenda prepared yet. I don't know. Yeah, we wouldn't. E2 Gowanda HS Library: That's okay. E2 Gowanda HS Library: It is. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Homecoming week, very exciting. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Dress shopping. Parade. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Office 30. What building? E2 Gowanda HS Library: Hallway decorating, very exciting. Other than that… E2 Gowanda HS Library: So I did have questions on here in regards to surveys, and I know I had some of them answered. E2 Gowanda HS Library: man on itself. E2 Gowanda HS Library: I still had notes on here for student surveys, if there was any sort of programming that students wanted to have access to that maybe they E2 Gowanda HS Library: Don't have, currently. Didn't know if there was a way we could look into that
106in the future. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Ask them. E2 Gowanda HS Library: And then, I guess maybe, I don't know, the community gets approached about that anyway, if there's any way to ask. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Bye. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Specifically, the students, that was my concern. E2 Gowanda HS Library: I am gonna be the looming AI individual, from the perspective of… E2 Gowanda HS Library: I still would kind of like some raw data reports from, like, Facebook or Meta, our ed process that we use and our website, and just curious what kind of stuff is actually being clicked on, or if there's any sort of feedback, specifically on raw data. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Like, the clicks and everything else, impressions. E2 Gowanda HS Library: If there was any way to… Harvest that.
107E2 Gowanda HS Library: And that's not for selfish games of trying to… E2 Gowanda HS Library: Be informed about the community, that's just trying to understand E2 Gowanda HS Library: the individuals that are interacting with those pieces, if… if they feel that they're interacting with it, I feel like they're giving their opinion. Being the old millennial that I am. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Right? I didn't grow up with Myspace and Facebook until I got older, but at the same time, I had learned how convenient it is, and how… E2 Gowanda HS Library: adept people are to giving their impression on that. So I guess my concern is, is that they feel that they're giving their feedback in that environment that we're speaking out to them. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Maybe they're feeling they're giving their
108opinion and it's not being heard. But it's not necessarily it's not being heard, it's just we're not receiving that data point. And I'm not looking for the gripes and the moans and groans. E2 Gowanda HS Library: context, per se, but, like, at the same time, like, we are. Or at least I feel like we should be. That said, I would… E2 Gowanda HS Library: Advocate in the future, and… E2 Gowanda HS Library: more likely to venture away from Facebook and the more third-party social medias, and I know… I think we had this discussion before, they are, Ed, 2D compliant, but I just wonder if we should… if there's a way we can put them to the website specifically. Those kind of announcements that we put out there. Just to drive them back to our… E2
109Gowanda HS Library: Our source, our site. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Where we have immediate control. But that's just… E2 Gowanda HS Library: Later on down the road, and maybe even a presentation. E2 Gowanda HS Library: only that piece of it. I wonder if there's workshops or something that we could have. E2 Gowanda HS Library: To kind of address some of those concerns, and or… E2 Gowanda HS Library: I know the other topic was brought up tonight, of how to engage the community about some of these other feedbacks. Like, tonight's presentation was a great brag. I feel like… E2 Gowanda HS Library: if there was a way we could actually invite individuals from the community. Like, I don't feel like that presentation should totally be for us, but I think… I know it's accessible online and
110everything else. E2 Gowanda HS Library: I don't know, maybe an in-person invite, if there was a way to do something like that. E2 Gowanda HS Library: And then, just reiterating the NSWA stuff, workshops… Amazing. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Thanks. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Walking through the campus and these buildings, they look fantastic. Hats off to Rich, Wade, and the entire seasonal staff that got this place turned around. It looks fantastic. Parking lots look great, striping, it's all first class. So I definitely want to give them a shout-out. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Also, thanks to the nice donations for the TRAP team. I think those different organizations that donated was nice, helped those, help that program. And lastly, you know, I want to thank Amy Granot for her contributions. I know that she's contributed quite a
111bit here, not only as a staff level, but as a coach, too, and she would definitely be missed. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Great, thank you. E2 Gowanda HS Library: I think everybody said everything I wanted to say. E2 Gowanda HS Library: You don't want to add? Anything to say about AI? The only thing I have, a lot of good things going on in the community, going on in the district, back to school seems to be going well. E2 Gowanda HS Library: I'm not good. E2 Gowanda HS Library: I have a couple of new hired principals, and I've already received a phone call last week from a parent about our elementary school principal and the positive impact that she's had. There's a 4th grade student that E2 Gowanda HS Library: Not to get into too much
112detail, but was anxious about coming to school, and she reached out and made a strong impact, and then even later, next year. So, like, shelter that kid from the rain, bringing her into the building, and really… E2 Gowanda HS Library: really made a strong impression on that kid, so, Chelsea is doing a phenomenal job, from what I've heard, and I think it's important to recognize that, so… E2 Gowanda HS Library: Yeah. I don't think she was a great pick. She's a great asset for all countries. A great book. Not that Ms. Hillman isn't doing a great job, but I've received. E2 Gowanda HS Library: a phone call, and I said I would, you know, make sure she gets some recognition for it. So, a lot of times I get phone calls, and it's usually the
113exact opposite. Somebody is upset about something that somebody did, or the district's done, so there was a little bit of a relief. I'm like, hey, you know, when people do well, it's important that we recognize that, so… E2 Gowanda HS Library: Yeah, just wanted to share that. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Can I add to that? No. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Yes, go ahead. When this parent called, she actually called our office to, also talk about her great experience with the school principal, and I immediately went into complaint mode. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Can I ask your name, your contact number? Who can I have call you back on? I'll have so-and-so get back to you right away. And… and she… E2 Gowanda HS Library: immediately went into telling me this great story, and both of
114her got… both of us, her and I, both got kind of teary-eyed. It was really a beautiful story of just our principal just really making such a huge difference, and such a simple, nice thing to do that just really was fantastic. E2 Gowanda HS Library: That was really a great, great moment. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Alright, so if we have nothing else for the roundtable, I'm gonna get sent to our parking lot. E2 Gowanda HS Library: If anything, anybody wishes. Change? E2 Gowanda HS Library: I'm forced for next month. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Nobody has any changes to make. E2 Gowanda HS Library: Make a consideration motion to adjourn. E2 Gowanda HS Library: All in favor? E2 Gowanda HS Library: Thanks, everybody. Good evening, thank you.
