to the May 18th, 2026 Greencastle School Board meeting. We'll start with the pledge of allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for it stands. One nation indivisible with liberty and justice for all. >> Thank you. All right, starting this off. Uh, are there any adjustments to the agenda? >> There are no adjustments to the agenda this fall. >> Okay, recognition. >> Well, good evening. Um, I have Scarlett Roach here, a second grader at Red Path. Um along with doing a great job at leading the pledge, she is also um a great um at showing teamwork. So Scarlet um is an outstanding example of teamwork, our monthly character trait. Whether working with a partner or in a small group, she is always willing to do her part and support
those around her. She helps keep her group focused, encourages others to participate, and works hard to ensure everyone is successful. Scarlet consistently shows kindness, respect, and patience when collaborating with classmates. And she leads by example through her positive attitude and strong work ethic. Her ability to work well with others makes her a true team player and a wonderful role model in our classrooms. Congratulations, Scarlet. Good evening. I am so excited to introduce you to Bo from Deer Meadow. Bo is a kindergarten student and he has been nominated today because he is such an easygoing kid. Um he makes a great Because Mrs. Ames knows that she can always count on him to be a good partner and a good friend. It doesn't matter who she teams him up with. He is always respectful and a
good teammate to work with. So, congratulations. [applause] Absolutely. >> Hello. So for our student of the month for teamwork, I am going to turn it over to Miss to introduce our >> So we have an here today. I'm lucky enough to have somebody like in my class. There are so many things I'm still learning about him. For example, he went to the state fair [laughter] and he participated on that. But one thing I met him on several different projects and during each one has done his best to share his ideas but also to make sure others are heard. His team there to show others how to learn. He's motivated and resilient. Also a great miss [applause] [clears throat] All right, for GMS we have Kinsley Albbright. Um, her teacher said she keeps uh dialogue going
in class and is always helpful in contributing to the great learning environment. Very studious and hardworking student, very polite, respectful. we can always put her in a group project and know that she's going to do her very best and help her team along the way. She's thoughtful, dependable student who leads by example. Um, we appreciate her creativity and she's full of effort um all the time. We are fortunate to have her in class. The teachers also categorized her as an absolute delight. I think she's straight A's this whole year. Um, and she works really hard with any of the teams or small groups we put her with. So congratulations. [applause] >> Hi, good evening. My student is not here tonight. Um we had baseball. Um so they're doing some team things. Um Nathan Sutherland, leading
by example. a brief moment at the beginning of the school year which consisted of informal interactions between his staff and Nathan. He led led to an opportunity for his strong character to shine. As a senior in the time when expectations are more common than not when reasons to go against the grain are more prevalent or the fight of an expectation happens because it doesn't make sense. Nathan showed up for the students and the staff at Greencastle High School with true integrity and direct decisive moral compass. Our comp our campus is not open for students to leave as they please during lunchtime in the early fall semester. Nathan and many of the others were asked to stay at school rather than to leave at lunch. He was politely responsive, understood what was being asked of him,
and acknowledged the expectation. As the days progressed, as the weeks turned to months, and now to the end of the school year, Nathan at lunch every single day without fail. Most likely, Nathan is unaware of this decision throughout the school year to be a disciplined and responsive young man, upholding, maintaining a single expectation set forth for students resonated so much. But he's a tremendous athlete, an exemplary student, and a leader by example. So, thank you, Nathan. [applause] >> Okay. Uh, next up, public comments. Do we have anybody that would like to speak to the board? Come on. I'm a parent, also a teacher. And I just want to if teacher and parent comments will be considered before. >> I won't share my opinion on that. I'm just wondering if that is happening. >> You elaborate
more. >> Yeah, I mean they're being looked at to purchase to replace or update our projectors any of which the lamps are going out. projector. >> It's not really meant to be a question and answer session. >> I just leave it at that. Just wanted to come here and make it that I would like this to be carefully. >> Sure. Absolutely. >> Thank you. >> Anybody else? All right. Hearing none, uh, we'll move on to the approval of consent agenda existing meeting minutes from regular board meetings. April 27, 2026, allowance of plans, financial report, personnel reports part one and two. >> Yes. Hello everyone. Um, as usual, we're going to start with some payrolls um, for April 2026. The first one's going to be on F1 in your finance packet. It was dated the 10th
of April 2026. payroll of $497,449. If you want to move um forward to F3, that's going to be the um taxes and retirement for the payroll on the 10th. Total for uh taxes and retirement 151956. And then the second regular payroll for April 2026 was dated on the 24th. $474,51.78. And once again, we have the taxes and retirement. The total for that payroll was 136321.96. And then we're going to move forward um to some prepays that I did for April 2026. As you went through the list that begins on finance packet F9 on that page. As you went through the list, did anyone have any question in particular about prease for April? >> No. >> Okay. If there's no questions, the total for prease was 462,52940. [clears throat] And then next in your packet which
is going to be on finance packet page F16 are the claims dated for today May 18th 2026. And once again as you glance through the claims did anyone have any questions in particular? No. Okay. So the claims data today May 18th 531,68634. And then we'll just move on to the finance report. Uh education at the end of April 2026. That's going to be the very first line. Fund 101 balance is 3,190 29010. If you go down three lines from there, that's going to be fun 300, which is operations balance in that account was 43214961. And then if you go to finance packet page F25, that's going to be the last page of the fund report. The last column, the last line, balance in all funds is 8,410,83760. Next in your packet is a depository statement.
And that basically is showing us what our total balance is at the end of April 2026 in all of our banks. And then it also tells us what the balance is in all of our funds. And as you can see, we are balanced to the penny with the banks. And then we also have a fund transfer report. This is very typical. Each month you give me authorization to move money from bank to bank to pay bills depending on what bills I'm paying. So we've got a transfer in there for that. We have our regular education ops uh transfer. And then we also have that school lunch transfer from 8400 which is a holding account that uh we make a transfer each month after purchases have been made and food has been consumed. And then we've
got um a breakdown of bond 22 expenditures. Uh total expenditures to date which was April 30th, 2026. I left a note on there for you. We have paid all retainage on projects. So any remaining balance that is in this bond will go on uh go on to be used for ongoing uh projects within the corporation. And I'm sure Mr. has shared some of that with you and we'll continue to share some of that with you. But that balance um we'll be we'll just be using for ongoing projects. And then we've got the fund detail report report for the go bond. That is the bond that we hold here. If you go to finance page F34, the very last column, you'll see what the balance was. April 30th, 2026. 113,7475 cents. And once again, I think
Mr. Gibney has already talked with you. We're looking at uh ceiling pro uh uh parking lots, ongoing projects, that type of thing with that uh with that money in that account and pending approval. I'd like to um or pending any questions I'd like to um submit for approval. >> Anybody got any questions? Sorry. Motion to approve. second. >> Any discussions? >> All those in favor? >> Opposed? >> Honor reports. >> Yes. I am going to invite Bailey Boggas and Mrs. Good Pastor up. Bailey is our very first Green Castle High School student to earn the IC. So, she's going to share a little bit about um what that opportunity is going to give her next year when she goes on to Butler um because we're very excited about this and how many that we're going
to have in the future. Go ahead, David. >> Yeah. So, Mr. Kendall approached me last year about the ICC and honestly, I didn't care about it. I just figured that I would take classes that I wanted to and the credits Anyway, however, at that time I was not sure that I was so unbeknownst to me recipient and so that changed everything [laughter] that's why I'm going to Butler and so the at the credit hours and core curriculum includes 27 credit hours and the but one of those. And so that's a pretty big deal. And then on top of that, there are a few 200 level courses um ranging from English to political science to history to regular art sciences um that are also covered by the FCC, which is a really cool opportunity for me.
And um my advisor actually said that I'm about two credits away from an environmental science minor, which I have no interest in. It's just a really cool thing um that the IC has provided and it's a testament to the um efforts on behalf of the school to grant better coursework for those of us who want to challenge ourselves more and also um it's just a really cool opportunity for students that want to challenge themselves and get ahead and it's provided that opportunity and most likely I'll be able to graduate a year or two early should I want to not sure if I want to but should there and I sort of get a jump start on my career as a lawyer following in my dad's footsteps probably coming back here. So, it's a pretty big
deal for me and it's benefited me greatly and [applause] >> you wanted to know how many. So, Bailey is our first one. they can opt in. Um the ICC is now a law that a lot of our 2029 would start with and luckily we've been able to set the path to offer some courses and have a partnership with IQ. So Bailey has opted in we have more that will opt in next year. Um and then ultimately it looks like with projected numbers we should have 25 um to 30 and then over 35 that will opt into So the cool thing for us is um it is just as Bailey said where they will be able to [clears throat] potentially done early but what we're finding is just more opportunities. So now they can explore other
things in college um and other opportunities for us. >> Thank you for sharing. Thank you Bailey. I appreciate that. Um I also just want to share our end of the year data is rolling in. Um a lot of that I sure yet because it's not official. Um, but we are staying very consistent K12 three with our I read as what we did last year and um we are we are just doing really great things and I'm really proud of our teachers and our students for all that they're doing. Um so I'm excited to share that when I'm able to >> Yeah. I uh just have a couple month. Just kind of piggy back on Becky's statement statement comments um that students and staff working incredibly hard. It's really nice to see just the efforts and
a lot of the hard work that went into uh learning the new curriculum, implementing the new curriculum with CLA and obviously with math just to kind of see those results paid off. A lot of hard work into that. It's really nice to nice to see. Uh yeah, it's just exciting time of the year with uh with end of the year and a lot of uh organized craziness taking taking place with just a lot of the fun end of the year things. Um certainly with field days. Um hopefully we'll we'll get a couple more in uh tomorrow. Might be a little bit wet. Um but I know that they have uh plan, you know, plans in place to take care of that. Um it's just been really nice to see a lot of community involvement in
those field days as well. seeing the kids uh just having a lot of fun at the end of the year celebrating celebrating with the rest of their uh their classes has been really nice. Uh eighth grade is going to go to holiday world trip and we want them to get down there safe and get back uh back safe. Um again, organized uh chaos. Um and then obviously one of my favorite things uh at the end of this week is graduation 7 o'clock uh Friday night. So looking forward to uh celebrating another great class high school. So just like to thank everybody for uh their efforts here at the end of the year and we're looking to finish on a strong note. >> Great. Thank you for that. All right, moving on. Uh no old business.
Uh so we'll move right into new business. Have approval request for the second reading of the 2026 2027 building handbooks. So you had these last month. Um they were they were brought to uh then and now it's time to bring them back for um a second reading uh and adoption. Uh in between first reading and second reading, there were some minor uh changes to personal communication devices. So cell phones just with with wording wanted to be more consistent with the law, the language of the law. and being powered off and accessible throughout the school. Outside of that, >> all right, any comments, questions? All right, you have a motion to approve. >> Motion second. >> Any discussions? >> We we're going to take care of some formatting issues. Yeah. Yes. >> Split paragraphs. >> Split
pages. There are headings. >> Okay. All those in favor? >> Opposed? Passes. Next one up. Second reading of the job description for the athletic department. >> Yeah. So, we brought with the reorganization the athletic department. We brought these to you. I brought these to you last month for first reading. There have been no adjustments to them. Updated job description as presented. Question. Need a motion. Make a motion. Need a second. >> Second. >> Any discussion? None. All those in favor. 26 2027 employee handbooks. >> Yeah. So as is customary again another of those routine endear items preparing for next school year school year period beginning uh July one. So we met directors and reviewed our handbooks and uh brought them for first reading last month and no changes in between. So, this would be a
second reading uh and adoption so that we have those in place and can have employees sign off on when they return or continue to uh show up for work July one or yearround people. All right. Any questions or points of clarification? I need a motion. Second. >> Any discussions? Hearing none. All those in favor? >> I opposed. >> All right. Next one up. Overnight GHS spring break trip for 2028 to Paris Riviera and Rome. I'm catching up here through my scroll. >> 321. >> Thank you. I'm not usually So, um, yep, Mrs. Frank, uh, is leading and helping to organize, uh, this trip for Tiger Cub Travel, and, uh, we think this is another great opportunity for students, families who choose to, uh, to send their students on an organized trip full of, uh, the
national packed itinerary. It's been a positive uh positive experience for our kids. Um and this wouldn't take place until spring break 2028. So that allows families time to prepare basically save money >> um to kind of help budget for that cost. All necessary paperwork uh is accounted for. I would recommend approval. All right. Any questions or concern? Hearing none. I need a motion. >> I have a second. >> Second. >> Any discussion? >> Hearing none. All those in favor? >> I opposed. That carries have fun. >> I'm jealous. >> All right. Next up, we have the overnight ghs trip to discover Japan, Kyoto to Tokyo, June 5th, 2028 to June 13, 2028. >> Yep. And so again, this is another voluntary opportunity um spearheading this effort, initiative, all necessary paperwork. Obviously, Chapron, same organ, same
organization. Uh the difference being this would take place during summer. So no no school being missed again allowing time for families to budget for safe. It would be my recommendation that the board approve this opportunity for our students. All right. Any questions? I need a motion. >> Move to approve. >> Second. >> I'll second. >> Any discussions? Hearing none. All those in favor? >> I opposed carries. Next up, overnight ghs boys basketball team Wesley University June 12th through 14, 2026. >> Yep. So, uh, coach submitted all necessary paperwork. Um, it's not out of state, but it's overnight. So, that's why it requires board approval would be my recommendation board approve this opportunity as presented. All right. Same always. Any questions? >> All right. I need a motion. >> I have a second. >> Second. >>
Any discussion? >> Hearing none. All those in favor? >> I >> opposed. Wish you luck. >> I'll be there. I'm certain of it. >> All right. Uh, next up, the 2026 Elementary Summer School. >> Nope. You're good. I I skipped down one page. >> Yeah. So, uh we're still uh working through we still have IRA scores rolling in, but we're doing our best to uh to continue to plan for summer school beginning on 26th. And u Becky has worked with uh Britney, Brandon, and Lisa on organizing this, kind of setting the the schedule uh parameters and also working to uh select our staff members uh who will be involved um the pay, compensation, everything like that, similar as past years. Um but obviously uh you know, again, kind of continuing on the trend. Summer school
has slowly kind of been whittleled away. by the DOE and they've done that by how they fund fund or don't fund um or reimburse courses. So, it's primarily for remediation I instruction helping kids to prepare for that with the eventual um taking test before summer. So, it would be uh my recommendation the board approve our summer school proposal As presented, we continue to line up transportation, all those things, food service. That would be my recommendation. >> I know it says 36 invitation. >> What did we say? What did you say today, Lisa? That we had was it? >> No. How many would that be? >> 26. We had several pass this first uh opportunity and so then they don't have to come to >> Okay. >> Our goal is to have smaller list. Last year
I think we had >> almost 40 I think attended. So >> good. Good. Any other questions? Balance. >> All right. Motion. >> Motion to approve. >> Have a second. >> Second. >> Any discussions? Hearing none. All those in favor? >> Opposed? Passes. Next up, the updated 2026 2027 teacher payroll schedule. >> Yeah. So, civil board members been around a little bit longer kind of might remember this, but kind of happens. I think about once every seven years you end up with 27 payrolls. Uh essentially in a year you want 26. And so, um we've discovered that for next school year um we need make an adjustment. And so we collaborated with GCA, shared that information, and essentially there'll be a three-w week an extra week in July of 2027 to kind of account for that
to help push one of those payrolls into the into the next year. Um, and by planning for this now, we'll be able to communicate this regularly. It's kind of kind of becomes a running joke from time to time, but the recurring email that people get on payday Friday about the start of second semester. So that way nobody's in a bad spot when it comes to that having to experience that gap. What was the feedback? It was fine. Any other comments, discussion? >> All right, hearing that. I need a motion to approve. >> Motion to approve. I have a second. >> Second. >> Any discussions? Hearing none. All those in favor? >> I carries. I think the last year it was pretty >> Yeah, I was going to say not not too long. >> In the
time period that um that we do the gap, it affects the least amount of employees. It's only the salaried employees. We don't have any hourly employees during that time period. So, it affects a very minimal amount of the staff. [clears throat] >> Yes. Yeah. >> All right. Uh next up, the new line air displays. >> Yeah. So, in your packet, you have a recommendation for uh new line uh interactive uh panels or display uh boards. essentially um many of our uh projectors in our middle school, high school classrooms are 10 to 12 years old. Um it's getting more difficult to get bulbs or the lamps to uh to replace them. Certainly you there was also point in time you worry about the projectors um themselves dying. Uh that's on top of um projectors at Rid
Path, Deer Meadow, and TZ that are also not new or have none of those have been replaced um at least since 2020 when I started. So we are wanting to plan to uh chip away uh at that and not have to replace everything all at once. um you might remember something similar with uh devices um curriculums trying to put those things um on a good rotation and so we have a proposal in the packet the new line Q Pro Elite um it'll be turn key uh installed by power for both middle school uh and high school. Um this would be an item that would be paid for out of the bond proceeds. Um It's not our local operating dollars. It's not any of our education fund dollars. Um, essentially, it's one of those things that
has been deferred time and time again, and we eventually have to uh address that. >> All right. Any comments, questions? You said that they're going to do all of them or just some days >> middle school and high school all the summer. So, they would be done. I think what was the date that >> gave mid early to mid July date they would get here and then they would install them and then I'm also working with empower on setting up a training for the teachers um we've had our principles came in and they looked at them and all different types of them and they all seem plug it in and you go very similar to what the projector is now so >> so it'll display everything that it does now certainly there's more interactivity um
that you can choose to use and tools of that nature But the main thing is a lot of our staff members rely on displaying their content but there is a lot of interactivity utilized by not just staff students. >> Any other questions? >> [clears throat] >> I guess easy sharing secret. It's just something it's new. I have personally lived one of the very first interactive boards and so we were able to give all our concerns first and how it wouldn't automatic but we were not so low Smart as well. Wasn't just language arts language arts on there as well. It's just so important. time of learn. questions. None. I need a motion. >> I'll make a motion. I have a second. >> I'll second. >> Have a second. Any discussion? Hearing none. All those in
favor? >> I passes proposal for center. >> Yes. So, um also uh part of plans for um we have we would like to finish off the rest of the painting project at TZ. It's something we use bond proceeds for to help to continue to kind of chip away at the needs. And so up to this past fall, most of the common areas um some of the Um the gym, the cafeteria have been updated and painted nice and refreshed. Um this proposal from Flora Brothers who's continued to uh do all that work for us to finish off essentially the rest of the school uh over the summer. We're going to prioritize um classroom spaces um uh primarily because teachers having to take things off the wall uh during the summer and we don't want to have
to bring them in after teachers have spent a lot of time putting things back on the wall. So, we're going to prioritize that and chip away at the list best we can. There may be a need to continue that work uh during fall break when they're ready break for some other spaces that you know that they don't get to. We're going to to tackle as much as possible as time allows. So it would be my recommendation the board approve the orderation. I need a motion. I have a second. Any discussions? None. All those in favor? >> Carries. >> Next up, additional appropriations. >> Yeah. So, this one's a uh a little bit kind of unique um this year because we are seeking an additional appropriation uh for the rainy day fund of a million dollars.
Uh but in reality u we're not going to be eating into our rainy day fund uh cash balance. Um we are we reached the settlement with uh the roofing manufacturer Suprema and also our insurance carrier for the Deer Meadow Roof. And we actually just received last week uh first half of that settlement. the second half um will come in August or September. Um so essentially it's going to cover the cost of that entire roof. We've deposited that money uh into the rainy day fund. Um but we need permission uh to spend those funds because we weren't planning to to spend um out of our local appropriations uh for that. Um, and I believe this year, uh, during last year when we were planning for the 2026 budget, we, um, budgeted for a million dollar appropriation
for the rainy day fund, but we used that a lot when we had another one-time deposit into our rainy day fund when we closed the BA and we paid off the bus leases early. So, we ate into that. So that's why we're having to uh ask for an additional appropriation and go through those steps. Um I'll be going to the county council on June 16th, I think. >> Um of an evening just kind of those steps. So I just wanted to little bit of a background. >> Okay. >> All right. Do I have a motion? Do we have a second? >> Second. >> Any discussions? All those in favor? >> Next up, donations. The Edward and Maryanne Meyer Scholarship Fund within the Give Well Community Foundation to Greencast High School in Nevada. $3,000, right? >>
For the for the scholarship. We like to accept it so we can pass those out to those kids. We'll earn those. All right. Um a motion. >> Second. [clears throat] >> Second. >> Any discussion? >> All those in favor? >> I passes. >> Next up was a glass one. A long one. >> Yeah. Last reading on the left >> volume 38 number two. >> We save the best for last. Um so kind of as is customary this time of year puts out policy updates with the close of the legislative session. Um I met with our rep each of the policies and updated those um discussed those and there's no action being uh taken this month. It's just a first reading but we will bring them back for a second reading approval next month. And again
typically most of these are the results of just the legislative updates to bring us current state law. Enjoy it. >> All right. Uh, any other business? >> No further business. >> Anybody? >> Well, I just like to congratulate the uh academic Super Bowl teams on two fantastic first place wins in the state. science and fine arts and it came in second. It's just >> just amazing. We again we are the high school with the most wins throughout the history of the competition bar none. >> And then the third graders had a wonderful tour last Friday all around the town. >> Yeah. Our middle school academics. We had one state champ and Yeah. So, just excellence all the way around. >> Proud of those kids, those staff members. >> All right. Has anybody got anything else?
If not, I need a motion to make. >> All right. No discussion. All those in favor? >> I [laughter] thank you.
