Board of Education: All right, welcome, everyone. We'll get started with our annual public hearing for the school resource officer. Board of Education: They're extremely skilled surveying the small business space, Board of Education: So, let me turn it over to Joe. Sorry. Board of Education: Nope. Board of Education: All right, the purpose of tonight's hearing is to review the school resource officer, Patrick between the Village of Marcells and Omnaga Central. We'll review the terms, gather stakeholder feedback, and then roll over next steps. Board of Education: So what is a school resource officer? A sworn law enforcement officer assigned to a school. Responsibilities include safety and crime prevention, law-related education, building positive relationships with stakeholders, and they are employed by the Village of Marcellus. Board of Education: The term of the contract is one year. This comes
up annually. We'll present every single year in the public comment period. The contract is currently posted on the district website. It will remain, Board of Education: all the time, until the updated draft comes up. That's on our annual notifications. Board of Education: The cost to the district per officer is $66,721, which is inclusive of annual salary, equipment, and training. The funding for this comes from our general fund and Title IV funding. The scope of the work is 8 hours a day, 5 days a week, and estimated for after-school-related activities. Board of Education: So, some of the specific duties of the officers, and all of these come verbatim out of the contract is to control and observe all areas of the school building and grounds, be visible and available to students, faculty, and administration, develop and
maintain positive relationships with students, faculty, and parents, participate in district CPT meetings, provide suggestions. Board of Education: in training the transportation department. Board of Education: Assist with district security camera placement, the work that they look at our areas of coverage and where gamers tend to be updated and replaced, conduct residency investigations for the district. Board of Education: Be members of the threat assessment team, assist social workers and psychologists with distraught students, may enforce school rules, but never act as a disciplinarian, and a whole lot. Board of Education: So, it's about two pages worth of their contract again, just, posted on the website. Board of Education: As far as information sharing, the cost of the contract, SROs will have access to student information, and they're confidential. It's in compliance with Ed Law 2&E. Board of Education:
We've also included the Parents' Bill of Rights, the Data Security and Privacy Plan, the district, the contract can be found on the district website, and it's also appended to the district-wide safety plan, where it also links their Board of Education: 24-7. Board of Education: So for stakeholder input, letters went out via, Parent Square. They're posted on the website for any stakeholders to provide, any input that they see fit is put into the contract. Board of Education: We… this is a legal requirement. I've looked at other districts that some do, some don't, but it's our items that we've received from legal, so this is what we ensure that we do continually each year, and share it out with different stakeholder groups, including parents, students. Board of Education: School administrators, teachers, but the bargaining, community members, information
officers, security, defense counsels, Board of Education: Sorry about that. It's like, there's something wrong with the top. Board of Education: horse, and for who works for delivery school district. So, we just… we extend it out, opposed to 30 start out. Board of Education: So where are we in the process? We scheduled a public hearing that was posted in the newspaper April 30th, 26th, so a little over a month ago. We've had that posted on the district website, we've talked about it at all of our board meetings. Board of Education: So the 290 is the public hearing, Board of Education: Public is, you know, welcome to give feedback. Board of Education: The one piece of information we had for received, we, you know, listened to. It was about just, a language change. Something up throughout here
is working in the village and making sure that we have that updated and accurate for the current needs of the district. Board of Education: Stakeholder letter again went out on parents where 526 recommendation legal was, within 5 days of the public hearing, so we're within the statutory, time frame. Board of Education: Questions, open discussion. Unfortunately, we don't have anyone else tied there to administrators and our SRO who's here to answer any questions if anything came up. So, as board members slash community members, if anyone has any questions for our SRO, Officer Nancy, who's here tonight. Board of Education: So, time limits that, we'll have the contract on for, for consideration for approval of the next meeting for the June 23rd meeting. After that, the superintendent works with the mayor of, Marcellus and the chief of
Police to get all three parts and sign it off. Board of Education: And this presentation and recording will be posted on the website for, the community to go and view it their vision. Public comment will remain open, so… Board of Education: Good predictor. Board of Education: You're not comprehend the bargain. Board of Education: It's been quite a few. Six or eight again? Six, seven. He knew exactly where I was going. Board of Education: Well, thank you for coming. Please reach out to the district office if you have any questions or concerns, and work with our SROs, we'll be able to run each building and be happy to help them as well.
