001something to see as low as I could get. 1991, diamond circus. The United States for America. and justice for all. Yeah. Ooh, word… Recognition Week? Just a, um, a couple comments about school board. It's school board recognition week across… New York State, and we always take this time to, um, recognize our school board members. I can wait and pass them out later, but we have a gift for each of you. Uh, for your volunteer service? As well as the students who are now part of our school board. We have a small token of our appreciation. Then I'll give out to you later on. Um, but many people, uh, mistakenly, over the years, think the school board is a paid position, and it's a volunteer position. Um, it's uncompensated role. focused on governance and not administration.

002The core Responsibilities Act legislated, by the body of the school district. and setting the overall vision, adopting a comprehensive policy, and approving an annual budget to ensure resources align with educational goals for all students. Board members officially, uh, um… hire and evaluate superintendent, which I'm, um, honored, and it's my privilege to serve as. This volunteer job often is characterized by significant highs and lows in the position. that intersect with public service and complex… social issues. The highs bring immense fulfillment, such as the pride… of approving a landmark initiative. that measurably improves student achievement, or successfully navigates a major challenge. Uh, to earn the community's trust. Conversely, with the lows that stem with political or financial pressures, inherent in dealing with issues in educational and societal, um, stratifications. This includes emotional strain, Um, to have to

003make deeply unpopular but financially necessary decisions, facing intense public scrutiny, or personal attacks over controversial issues. Um, fortunately, we haven't had to experience much of that. Based upon the board leadership in the community. Um, these highs and lows are defined with a unique difficulty that many do not see, um, that leading the public institution through a collective consensus driven approach, and often politically charged decision making. And the last one, don't see much of that either. And that's a testament to the board. Um, of education and your focus, so I just want to say thank you, and, um, uh, for all that you do, and I'll… and I'll… we have little tokens of our appreciation for you. Um, that I'll hand out at the end of the meeting, so… Thank you. Thank you, thank you, thank

004you. I have a motion to approve the minutes of the September 23, 2005 Board of Education meeting is presented. still moved. Second. Questions, comments, concerns? All those in favor? Aye. Post? Abstain. Motion carries 7-0. Computer's a little slow, sorry about that. Reagan Company's donation presentation. I'd like to introduce Sean Reagan, and uh… Joe Campbell's here with him. Um, he's… he's trying to retire. I would say that, but Sean keeps reeling it back in, which we much appreciated, so… Um, uh, Sean, the floor is yours. Thank you. I'm very pleased to be here today, uh, representing Reagan Companies. out of the, uh, Jim Reagan helping thought. And this, uh, donation is made annually And, uh, recognition, or not recognition, but to assist those students that are both in. So, we set up this fund. years ago,

005uh, and the really goal was to remember Jim Reagan in a way, uh, that he best lived his life, and that was he was an educator himself prior to joining. the insurance industry. And we really felt like that was his true passion. Uh, and he truly loved those students that he worked with. So these funds are designed to assist those students that are most in need, and make sure that their experience can be everything. that it needs to be in an important environment. So, for example, uh, if a student is, you know, not sleeping well because they don't have an updated mattress, These funds are available for the staff to be able to identify that and, say, buy a new mattress. Or they need a new winter coat. to be able to do that. Provide

006money to go on a field trip, or do something extracurricular that other students would be a part of. The goal here is that each of these students would be able to have their full experience. Uh, and we truly feel like this is, uh, the best way for, uh, Jim Reagan's legacy. Uh, to continue on. Uh, so, we're very pleased to be providing this donation of, uh, $4,000. Once again this year. And, uh, great to look forward to our show. This year, um, some of the money, um, this month, not this year, we've used this to, um, help, uh, a Snow student Who needed eyeglasses and their pen and Florida, so we've got some, uh, a new pair of eyeglasses so they can Um, we have Motor Reed, and we'll take in all the other fun

007stuff. This is much appreciated from the school district. Yeah, thank you very much. Glad to hear about me. Thank you. Thank you. Okay, math curriculum update. Uh, Eric and Kate, I'll let you introduce your staff. for the presentation on the new map reveal program that we purchased this year, and it's our inaugural, um, presentation to the students and, uh, the parents. We don't just mascot. Dr. Always. 3 through 5, we have the, uh… And Rocco, we have in Catalina, cardiovanna Toriachi and Maggie Prozac, and they all were very instrumental in the pilot as well, so I asked them all to… Well today of how we're doing… All right, so… So, um, asking for a third, fourth, and 5th grade in what we see, and then they'll share what they see our back. Overall, we feel

008like it's a good construct, sorry, the difference you're implementing, and you're seeing a lot of shifts in how the students are learning and engaging with math and with each other. So we see a lot of people thinking, stronger conceptual understanding, so instead of just knowing why, or how to do things, but understanding more why to fit as well. And as you can see through the exposure to multiple different strategies that could have. So we've only just started diving into literacy units already. big things are given a lot of different ways to engage with how it's going to work best for them, and what makes sense for them. And that's a lot to bring a shift from what we saw recently. There's a lot of digital tools as well that I'm specifically in 3rd, 4th, and

0095th. July's Day. And that's the classroom slide title, the teachers who went to teach, but then the students knowing from their end of the online platform how to access it from home. They can also see replay videos where they can explain. the lesson, and it's not the teacher's doing it, it's the program, so it's in a different way than how we… like, say it with classroom. And then… We can do a lot of things online, like exit tickets, Um, pre-assessment benchmarks, site-of-unit assessments, and that's really helpful for us and for the students, because it provides them with immediate feedback, so you can set it so they can seeing what they got ready, what they got wrong, and we can also use that then to take the data, and we can use it to form small

010groups and to figure out how we can best support our students from day-to-day lessons, and then in general, um, during the back clock. So, there's a lot of predictable routines that will make this really successful that we've seen. One of them is to be curious. Um, it's a routine, so that's just giving them a picture, a prompt to think about, to talk with someone about, and it really allows students of all abilities to engage in math conversations without even realizing that they're having that conversation. That's really important, especially for our… for learners to make sure that they are feeling successful and give them a good mindset to get started. I don't know if we have a good home flexion of this program built into it. One thing that they do is folds for letters, so

011at the beginning of the whole curriculum reads grade level and the beginning of There's a letter that can go home to families, and on there, it just gives you into what we're doing, how we're doing it, what it's going to look like. important to point out there. And then it also gets into what can we do at home to support this, which I think that is a big question for a lot of parents has helped them at both. Everyone thinks it's so different from what they learned to have. So this really breaks it down and gives us a couple of great things to do. And the teacher responds to have been really positive. I feel there, especially, were really enthusiastic, we're ready to dive into it. To learn more, and seeing a lot of good

012things so far. So, angry, you're fine, we've all begun the crusading for real estate love. We were given at the start of the year of materials, all classrooms. So students have a volume 1 and Volume 2 of a class term, um, book, and then there's also the additional workbook, which a lot of teachers use as award for each lesson. And then we have all our tissue materials, lots of tissue materials. Everyone is rostered at Wheeler, rostered in using the online campus students and teachers. And it's different off of the prompt, the teacher book, too, because it offers so many other ways we can support our students, depending on how they're doing. Um, so there's your small group ideas, reinforcing ideas, extension ideas for your stronger against fits. And… then we also have manipulatives. We were

013surprised and surprised by all classroom fails, special ed, Just give it two giant totes that go along with the curriculum, full of hands-on manipulatives, so we have everything. So, the books will tell you exactly what type of manipulatives you should seek out to help the students with the lesson. And it's part of what you do, and that's been… for you to have that hands-on experience for this. Wow. And… do a lot online, too, which is great for us, because I'm starting in third grade to do that online testing, so this is a good way to get used to doing math online. And at 3.5, we had a completed minutes 1 and 2, including practicing taking the end of unit assessment. at Bronco, would you also have? Come in, hold my sister to, you know, we

014just wanted to at all three grade levels. Unit 1 is similar to the grade levels, and it's called math is. And the big difference is that, instead of doing, like, the different set procedures and trying to find out the answers, Um, it… this unit serves. Uh, to help the students to think of math as a way of thinking and problem solving. Instead, just to set the procedures that… We all know that in the past. So, it's a whole different mindset, and everybody's taking that on. Um, As I said, Gibbalta on Univers 1 and 2, and it's not about us are beginning to… dive into clinical creep. Um, we also have an abundance of materials to add to our already present manipulatives we have. Which is nice, because some of them are a little bit bold.

015But, um, at Bronco! We are more hands-on learning, and always have been, because we use the CPA approach, a concrete… Toria Pabstrap giving us learned math. They play with math, they work with math. Using manipulatives, using, you know, real thinking. And then they go into the tutorial, figuring out how to represent things, you know, show the value of the tenant. just a stiff things that are bad, and then to be able to do the abstract thinking, where they can figure out 4 plus 3 is 7. And so on. So it's really important to have all those hands-on materials. We also have the digital materials. However, they're wonderful for the teachers. And we're diving into them with the kits. But at this point, since the children are not independent brothers in terms of platforms, We're going

016at that art slowly to make sure they're really getting to that. So just to piggyback a little bit on what Andy just said, um, I think one of the biggest strengths of this program is Our focus is on helping students understand the why, and then how about why. fact that it's not just memorizing facts. Um, for helping them build their number sets and make real connections between quantities and relationships, um, which will lay a much stronger foundation. Okay. Uh… The program really does support all learners. Uh, like Andy said, there's print, there's digital, there's hybrid options. We really have the flexibility Um, just to switch things up a little bit if something's not working, have, um, differentiated small group lessons that are provided to us. Um, so that's really, really helpful because it'll alleviates the

017teachers having to find supplemental activities and… We have it all written down for us. Um, we're seeing students approach math in… more confidence, um, and persistence, and I think that this will grow. As we continue to teach throughout the year. Right now, we're just getting started. A lot of us are still Um, getting into the routine, the kids are still getting into the routine, but we're starting to see you know, more of the light bulbs going off. Um, the focus on growth mindset and learning from states and trying multiple strategies. Uh-huh, that's made that feel more like a discovery, rather than just… memorizing. Um, something I really like about this program is At the beginning of each unit, the kids are introduced to a STEM character. Um, and, like, for example, we have… See, but

018coming up, the students will meet, um… a video game designer. So they will… it hooks them in a little bit more, because it's relatable to them. They'll see that. You want to be a video game designer, you still need to know numbers, you still need Bam. Um, they were introduced to a nutritionist. So, you need to know how to calculate calories, and we have some pretty interesting conversations about that. Um, so, I do… I do really like it. I think it's, um, student… kid-friendly, uh… And it's been great so far. So, there have been some challenges with the things that we're trying to figure out still as we all get used to this. One of the things we've noticed is just a different shift in how we're teaching and how students are learning, because they're

019used to the old curriculum, the modules, and this has just gone a lot different. We're asking them to talk with each other more, get hands-on more, um, they get different grades, so… The learning expectations are different than they are used to. And we've also noticed some vocabulary differences from the curriculum we're using compared to this. And they're just very slight differences, like, a barcan versus a strip, um, diaphragm, so… Just knowing that you know that's the same thing, we're just going to call it something of the time, and it does align with, for us at least, um, the state test, how we've seen things asked about in the past. We are switches, so we're really working on that heavy exposure to the bathroom category. We're doing that in class by previewing, going over, really highlighting

020the words between their lab. through that parent letter that was sent to all the vocabularies all listed there as well, and we hope that that is a tool that families are able to use. outside of the classroom. And we are setting additional time teaching lessons as needed, since it won't be the first time ever losing it in third grade. And they weren't exposed to something in second grade and first grade. Um, so it might take some time before we see students coming up and be like, oh yes, I've done this the last couple of years. So, for now, at least some lessons, we might have to take two or three lessons to introduce it in the way I think this therapy allows me to introduce it. for them to get swept. And that being said,

021we're not telling them to forget everything when they learned previously, we're finding ways to make sure they're keeping that knowledge they already have, even though it's slightly different from where we're taking them now, and still be the same. what they already know. And, you know, classrooms and student needs, they're all very individualized right now, and we're all going at slightly different paces with what we're trying. I was working with our students, and… Um, that's the great thing about this, is that it's so flexible that we're still all hitting the same kind of goal, and while we get used to it as teachers, the students get used to it in their classrooms, they kind of look a little different, and we're all getting to the same that for Rockefeller has succeed the same thing. Um, so,

022like, for us, as a kindergarten team, because we sprayed youth for our students for ourselves, like, everything is brand new, but I take care from, like, to take up what's saying… or implemented if the program a higher time. So, I feel like… Yes, I don't go see… or, um, message and use two beds to continue to, like, a request in the format. And, uh, those things there aren't. They're trying to call that, so… The teachers are also gathering paid on our… technology challenges, because some of the things start popping up as .NET think would, but more important. That, um, also for, like, the different species for, like, the more packages, I know that, um, second grade or first grade, they're having, um, like, simple minor things, but they're being chocolates, uh, to… with their… So,

023again, just curious to, um, adapt the lesson that you have to simplify the order problems could even see that it's very quirky and it has a lot of things that we still need to go teach our young learners. Constructing that. Um, we're also trying to… level that supports for students that are not up to par with the… With, like, feeding, or in which I mentioned, making sure that… Give them actual individuals. And the collaborative, like, that Tom discussed in the professional development, um, strong, that, like, out. as well as opening up lots of… Um, the frequency of the assessment and monitoring. out on our… are plastic, so there's lots of tippets, there is the facets, there's, um… a lot of those things that you're still adjusting yourself as to be sustainable. but needs to be

024had what, and… It's downtown. We're making sure that the students were learning the concepts of math, not just a big proposal, but also in the body, because off-page appropriate to us in that one. So, looking for the next steps that we're gonna… do as soon as you fill this out, is we're going to see how students perform on grade level standards, and that'll take some time as we move on. And we have been working with each other a lot in the building, um, formally and just more casually to just get feedback. What have you done, what have you noticed? And going forward, we want to really work on that vertical alignment, so we make sure when we think that they were learning, We have a sleep program that we're starting with. you think that they

025left on. Uh, and then he thought spending more time with the real, uh, program as a grade level, and then between the grade level, so on something like a super intense day would be very helpful. Because it's a lot, and we… had some time to get started, and he looked mainly at the beginning parts, the first units or two, and now we have several more units to go. Yeah, so I'm lost. Um, and then do you want to just look at the flow of the lessons, consider a pacing guides for next year, see if you want to even just that. And then further training from reveal themselves. I know a lot of teachers were able to go to an online training or an in-person training this summer, and it was really helpful to, like, get

026started. And now that we're in it, it can be really helpful to continue those limitations of that training. And then, we're always, you know, seeking current feedback. through cash flow conversations, and just, um… I know I asked straight up curriculum, but I have spoken so far? Um, and that was still pretty new, but that's a conversation I had to even talk about it at conference since, and then I figured it was fun, too. Just to see from there perspective how the APCs are going with this from okay. And then some success with new cleaners. So, we're looking at 3rd through 5th grade. We have the online city tests, so… We are looking that they can get comfortable with an online component, so the first time they're not seeing that, again, so we can ask questions

027online, because they haven't address. We feel this is going to do a really good job with it. It's built in safety, so you can have online exit tickets happen through your lesson. And then you can kind of benchmark student tests to assess staffing. Um, we really are excited to have this, like, strong Tier 1 instruction that all students are going to get, and from there, we can meet the needs of learners. We need extra work maintenance. PRs who are really more than ready for the scam periods. And then we're hoping that this… will then show in our New York State assessments with how the students are determining. And again, there's a little bit of a shift, so we can pick up the next couple years, how they're doing, not just… But overall, I'd say that

028it's going pretty well. We're excited to see diving into it, learning more, and… the students excited for it. Thank you very much. Ashley McGraw, capital project company. Catherine, any question? Founder, as well. I want to thank you for inviting us to that, to present to you. Uh, I think we were about… Here, a little over a month ago, um, to give you guys had something… Um, since then, uh, we want to talk about, you know, the project goals, which is a through-line. That is grounding in a lot of decisions that we think. So, uh, in general, what we had identified during pre-referendum was how can we support the student learning through your built environment? Uh, that not only addresses those foundational learning, but also, uh, the additional items that students might be interested in Throughout

029their career and beyond. We also want to make sure that we're addressing critical infrastructure, so that's… on another project, as well as driving opportunities for… community connection of their motors. So, since our last presentation to be a little over a month ago. We've been still having our regular Honor Architect, and construction manager meetings. Uh, we typically have those once We've done working a lot to… Uh, gain collective understanding of what, uh, where we are in the process, what those next steps are, and how we, uh, are successful as we're transitioning from design structure. Um… In early October, we had one of those meetings, and it was a day-long, uh, event where we were able to flip through Uh, these documents variant for label updates to estimates and make refinements, uh, based on… One of the

030things that we're learning throughout the overall process. Um, that evening, we also were able to meet with, uh, representatives of the board in a facilities committee, and so we were able to get into a detailed conversation going through the designs, going through the recommendation documents, and… Being able to talk through, uh, Uh, just different variables that either, uh, warrant additional considering, or it's okay as we were presenting it. Um, and then where do we go from here? So, we are working towards submitting our documents to the state later this month. So that they get approval, and we can then, uh, get them ready to be put on the streets for bidding. Uh, we love to do that in November, so that come the first of the year, or shortly thereafter, you guys can award contracts.

031and begin the process of construction. Uh, different levels for the end of the summer. So, from the Facilities Committee meeting, there were some key goals and takeaways that, uh, we were really charged with, um, as part of that. One is, how do we ensure that this project remains fiscally responsible and viable? Um, so with that, we were able to explore not only the design ideas, but also, uh, explore, are there opportunities where we could potentially scale back some interventions? Whether it be, uh, with equipment that's being proposed or designed, books that are being proposed, Um, and really come to a good resolution on how we could be moving forward. We also, uh… Um, we're beginning to talk through different bid strategies, so when it comes time for us to get the documents out on the

032street, How come we are sure that we have a successful, uh, been opening? Um, so some of those strategies that we were talking through is how do we integrate that pricing into, um, our documents? How do we integrate alternatives? into our designs. Uh, and we do have some answers and responses to some of the questions that were brought up, which Um, we were planning our American Habs shared via email. We can also address them here tonight, and… You're looking into that. But one of the main goals for why we're here presenting is to show you Um, provide options for the industrial arts building. Um, that was one of the key focus areas of the facility. meaning that we can, that we wanted to bring back to the board, who are just… general understanding, and um…

033you know, decision-making on where we want to go, uh, moving forward. So, with these two design options, um… We could have option A and option B. Option A is how, um… Uh, how they… CNS Construction. Um, and it retains as much of the original design intent as possible. We do have some refinements to this design, uh, given from when we met with you guys last month. Then we also have option B, which is a revised design, um, which really has an emphasis on stronger design modes and emphasis in corridors, so that our instructional areas can be a little bit more visually quiet. Uh, to minimize distractions. Um, through all of these conversations, through the work that we've been doing to refine over the course of the past couple of weeks, We've been including CNS in…

034Uh, more understanding of possible implications for some of these shifts in moves. So, again, happy to address those as we are able to tonight, but if there are any more questions that come out that we are not able to respond to, we're happy to take them to follow back up. So, as Catherine mentions, we'll be talking about a specific option for, you know, looking for something. That's mainly for the inside. The exterior, we really only have the one option. It was yield back a little bit. So, I just want to mention a couple things about both exterior and exterior finishes and materials. Um, the goals for… making these twice to prevent you are going to be resilient, first of all, and they're contextual. It's distracting. And they're also encouraged, uh, primates. So it's something that

035we're thinking about as we purchase these and get them to you. So, um, as a reminder of the Cultural Arts Building, it's the, uh, bus garage, which changed the one building, and now we're giving us a small faceplook on the outside. Um, a couple new doors and windows are going in. So, because of that, we… Um, it fell to the bricks, um, because there are some coming out as well. Uh, we also wanted to create, um… There will be an additional, um, exterior overhead door. The old exterior overhead door to be replaced. they will be, um, excuse me, uh, insulated. The loss of the bishop Ice might be coming in. We are looking at the context of the frick, that's kind of that nice identical frick that gives you interesting, and on the back side

036of the building, which is the east side, Um, there's vital. What tribal do is sort of get into that as a double PowerPoint. So, dark bronze colors, fruit goes in, Um, to make the limit. So, we'll be salvaging as such bread as we can. the nature of construction could go all into how much it actually put pieces and everything, but kind of the small amount, hoping it'd be… I'm simple enough to be in things like that, who you use. Uh, where we can't really make the impacts as best as possible. Um, and then there will be some areas to synchronize. So, thank everybody. It's a little bit darker than the actual, it's not quite as bright as spindle. The actual button. What we're going to be doing is going to be around, um, The main

037entrance, because there are sleep doors on this entry, It's similar to what's on the back side. We also have some letters there that we removed your page for, uh, we're gonna put it there as a dumping-off point, but of course, all of these Um, images, we would like your feedback… Thank you. Bye! Some of the ballards in front of the entrance there. Not certainly a breakdown that will need them, but we are looking at that, but they're sold, too. So, just approaching a little bit closer so that you can touch your hearts of the thing around it. Again, the, uh, that'll targeted kind of look vital titles on the back side. So thank you. So, next week, moving into quarters. So, as Stafford mentioned, Um, they're shown two different options for the quarters. Um, and

038the base mostly off of what we're also doing with the rest. So option A is sort of what was intentional intended originally, uh, There's look at our color, but without food B, we wanted to… Great. I would kind of make it quieter if… Classrooms paring down a little bit at simplified, and it's a little bit more designated to record orders. So that's what you'll see here. Um, but I want you to a… You'll see that there's, um… Uh, support green. Um, we focus acoustic panels before, they are required to help Functional. There's Tyler Hall agree to help secure the classrooms, um, at the end of the quarter of their space, the main entry. kind of the group there, there's a rank 3… Um, as I've been shallows. Um, again, it's really, uh… Secret Office of

039the clouds between the ceiling and the bottom. And then just turning to the fact that, um, between the wood and metal shops, so same… the same with the… where there might be some, um, learning opportunities for things like typing. So, we can go talk about how… in the space of this, where we're learning about systems. So, option B needs to come down to color overall to add a little bit more, um, energy to the So there are these shapes, um, of these products are similar in price, um, But for, uh, speaking, her piece by just gonna look at the finish. Um, but there's a little bit more, uh, vitamin C and movement in the ceiling. Right. Uh, the rest of the order is posted, right? Yeah, we're also using, uh, ice cream, a dark green

040for all of the frames, and, uh, dark frames and books. So, moving through the classrooms, um, first looking at the end goal for that, which is connected to what will be… greenhouse control program. Um, so… Again, bringing meaningful space, uh, but also having just a moment by and also try to think we're very resilient in a space like this, or people are very useful. seems to be very active in this space. of all of the floor scrum people there are polished concrete. So since I should say it and found a little bit, uh, outside of Intelli. So it does, um… There is an open front door in this space that animals have to have. the plastic right next plugbook, and other supplies. It's another keto, so they will get the same thing to move and

041write them an exit. Um, and we find all those things mostly up and hills, so we have time. But never feedback from school. I know we're… So, option B, uh, very similar, probably just turning back on color to place some of those, um, And, um, so it's a little bit simpler. If you do see more exposed at work here, so the feedback of… I do want to know that I'm showing kind of these images is… That worked looks very great. Uh, make a really comfortable in many different forms. You can paint it. between a use of different spaces as… different systems? Uh, but either way, it will be characterized, so it doesn't really need to cover the big box of location, so I think whether or not you… affect it another way? So, um, that

042was very, very valid if you decide to go this direction, they're left between the… drivers there must have turned out there as well. So, technology stack. So, this is a chat that we definitely add chat, but there's also a little bit of an annex. It has smaller projects that are more handheld, a little bit more of the traditional classroom in the sense that there will be also presentations with you. Uh, things like that, right? So it's more depth. Um, so here, uh, all the fire piece, um, oops. very blind here. I have a specific deadline, but, um… It can be sort of in the same family of the spreadsheets. So, like, here we have the agency feeling, we're all able to have solid surface countertops, too, because it needs to be a little less resilient,

043but… Um, policy. Um… There is a St. here, let's say the least. So, kind of options. not to be, again, very similar, really the only change here is the color. I'd love to kind of think so, less of a, uh, it's less effective. The living industry art, um, in the States, similarly, they have that minority. And then we also have, um… authors. It helps store this in the library projects. Right now, they're the HV. Um, but it's national, but it's basically a plastic metallic type of cereal. It's not metal, they tend to fill quite a bit further, but that's a different valve. Um, again, acoustic file, similar to what we saw in average students. And, um… Right, um… A lot of storage in this space, because there are some materials to be stored. There will

044be ceramics, and there's a lot of currents that have been for those who've heard. So, again, more exposed dunk work. And final states, uh, is what the hellish shop. So, again, he's painted this space of having the outside open door. Here. Other talks, again, need to be very resilient. to the other statistics, and, um… Absolutely. In this particular space, Because it is such a… so material, heavy things, heavy, quiet, and stuff like that. In both schemes, we have, um, I don't know if you will love it. And this came in particular with chemical color, we also have producing panels that are on the wall that are attended, and those have various colors. Um, and then… And then, uh, in the next scheme, which is… should be, again, taking away. color, um… It's a little bit

045less, um, there's some chaos to be able to participate campus, so… There might be some breakfast questions there, but, uh… Again, you still lift your back up. You also have these, uh… Uh, specialized space, but not too convinced. Then you actually are diverse racist. CNS is, um, enterprise development. But, um, again, and those docs may be painted, they can be treated some other way, uh, to function. And then, uh, the only other, uh, main design update as it relates to the layout and come out of that facility meeting was really taking a critical look at The entry sequence, and how people, uh… gather with a vestibule, and what does that mean for access to Uh, uh… The main office through a teller-type window for a check-in. And so, one of the points that was brought

046up was, uh, where it was originally updated was very close about entry numbers, so… Wanting to make sure that it's pulled back. Uh, little bits, because there is from that, creating space, uh, between when you first walk in and when you would, uh, eventually be up at that. that teller window. So, we've worked through and, uh, have been able to shift Uh, the entry door into the main office and that pillar window as much as possible to get some of that space. Um, so we just wanted to provide that update. That's fun. So again, where do we go from here? Um… We are working towards getting our documents to the state. We're, uh, working on submitting next had already adopt her, um, so that we can… Um, in a review that I have to go

047and be in a very strategic Uh, to get contractor interest, contractors… Um, uh, fitting on the board. Uh, presufficient. So with that, um, I'd be happy to go back and answer any questions you would have, provide any additional clarifications for, uh, information on any of Um, pricing on alternates. That might… Cass, just a question on slide 42. in the woodshop, in the metal shop area that's a combined shop. Um, representations for the woodshop equipment and the welding booths. is that, um, uh, in the far back right corner in there? Um, where the welding booths are going. Okay. And then just not having images of table saw. Yeah, we then, uh, speak a little bit, uh, better to this than I have been, but… Um, we have them all placed out in plan, we just don't

048have three-dimensional, uh, yeah, models that would appropriately represent that. I think that goes back to basically kind of OCN, those are volumetric things. capacity and height, I think. Thank you. Some of the key cost savings that would be, uh, ready to go away from um, the meeting that we had just a couple weeks ago, where as it relates to how do we… So, when we were up here for a little over a month ago, Tina and us were presenting, we're in the practical step financially. Um, we've made further adjustments to that. So some of those are… We've decided that in all of the kitchens, And in the areas of buying sinks for, uh, rental areas within. The Industrial Arts Building, we're going to more of an R&D panel. And, um, instead of having that title.

049And those cost savings that… that CNS had provided to us Um, our close to 75,000. Uh, again, just gives us better, in a better position for a big day. Um, some other things that we were actively exploring was, in the original design that we were sharing with you, we were looking at more of a high-fold Um, overhead door for an entrance into… Um, as the structural spaces of the Industrial Arts Building, but we've since… Um, more of a coiling work. Um, so again, still allow for, uh, We were expecting one that had some vision trips, and I feel like I have natural light come through, but it's a much smaller footprint and a much more cost-effective approach. Um, I liked. That we have. A lot of the other dictum we were exploring, was actually a

050little bit more of… a wash, or, like, for one, so… You know, like Gretchen had mentioned, he may be exposed. Uh, Dr. Kirk, um, from… how they come out of the factory versus the maintain. Um, you know, the cost of labor to be protective versus the cost of peeping. It would end up evening out a little bit towards the end. Are you expecting those coiling doors, all of them, to have windows? Um, and they are… one other thing on the mic. flat-lighted. They're usually a little bit foggy. So those are… if you go to… But if we go back to a couple slides… Why would… why would this not have it? But we'll have… people have lights coming in. It's just kind of the way that they explain it in the courts doesn't always have,

051like, full vision, I'll be like, blank. Um, so the big… Well, your previous one showed… the same door with windows in it, or vision strips, whatever you want to call it. I would assume that these are all going to be insulated, I would hope. Right, yeah. So will they all have… window, or will they all not? Uh, it would be like… Yeah, there should be, like, a little windows. Yeah, exactly. So, If there's a discrepancy, then… you know, if we didn't have a model that had, you know, that's fine. Of that image there. Yeah, it'll all be the same. I requested from the manufacturer to… I don't know if they don't want to do it for that time, but that's what… My personal opinion, I think the sweet spot design is between Two things you

052guys just put up tonight. Um, when we talked at the facilities meeting, we talked about getting rid of some of the obsessive colors to keep people focused. I think a… Um, an accent wall, like you've shown here is great. But again, I'm going to say it… 100 times over. Why are we paying the ceilings? Anything other than an off-white. You've got all the ductwork, and you guys even said at that meeting, That we can't do certain things because of all the ductwork. Well… then why are we wasting money on Different colors of paint. When you can't see it because of the ductwork. So, if you're going to paint an accent wall, I'm 100% in agreement with that. But the ceiling paint makes zero sense at this point. I mean, even in the hallway ones you're

053showing, option A in the hall, I think, looked nice. With that ceiling fan, you don't even see it. So what's the point of doing that when… It's not even going to be seen. Yeah, and the top is really a wash, so it's really up to you about that. So whether the sealant's painted green, gray, or white, it doesn't matter. What we're specifying is, uh, the paint quality? And, uh, you know, whether it's a standard grade… For industrial grade, and so it's more of the grade of… not the color. But the difference is when you have to stop and start and stop and start different colors. Now you're adding much more costs on the labor side. If you can go in there before we do anything, whitewash the entire ceiling. And then build. It's gonna be

054the cheapest way. That makes sense. They'll design it however we want it designed. You know, whatever the board's preference is. is if you want the ceilings all and off-white, we'll do the ceilings all and off-white. And… so… I think it's the smartest way to do it. That's all I got. In fact, they found them that I have that between Sarah, I sent them, uh, shortly before the board meeting, so I apologize if you didn't have it in advance. I can read those to you, Catherine? Uh… Sure, you can read to me, I… the one that I'm thinking of is, um, as it relates to a question that come up about… the kitchens and the equipment. Um, and so there was a good conversation around… Uh, the quantity and location of the hand sinks that we

055were showing, um, specifically in the… high school teacher ceremonia. So, based on our design documents and our work with our kitchen consultant, we were showing 4 different locations. If, uh, proximity to… different stages in preparing and cleaning. Um, so there's one located next to the serving area, one located next to… Um, the dishwasher, one pumpkin, like I said, yeah, and then one right next to the, um, area. Um, we did follow back up with our kitchen consultant, just to inquire Uh, wireless quantities were shelved the way that they were, and is located where they were, and… Um, there is no Department of Health requirement on those… Uh, quantities of our location, because we're out of… And so that people didn't have to walk from one end. of, uh, Kitchen for the Others who, um, Wash

056their hands prior to that next stage. Um, that's another item that if you want to reduce the quantity that are being shown for a cost saving, We can definitely explore that. Each and sync is approximately 15,000, so that does add up when you have the form. I know, we were kind of surprised by that, too. We were talking with our, um… with our, uh, MVP development as well, no. But you just said 15. And the high school has 4 sinks. We can reduce that. Yeah, so… You wonder why I brought that up. I know what to do! The other thing that we could talk about, um, was as it relates to… Um, the dishwasher. So, in the high school, we are showing… Inventless dishwasher that has more of a condensate. system within NFM. We are

057showing things. And the reason why we're so much they're two different, uh, types of dishwashers is… Mainly due to the existing structure. One of the limitations of the building. Um, and so, in speaking with, again, our kitchen consultant and our consultants to better understand the cost differential, going to more of the content statement that what we have in… the kitchen at the high school. is going to be a construction cost savings of about $24,000, which is significant, and something that we can definitely pivot to Uh, for the wheel or kitchens. The one thing to note about is that because the air is getting redistributed, throughout the kitchen and throughout the building, not being vented out, you will see an increased, uh, potentially in other costs for day-to-day operations and maintenance. And things of that nature.

058So just things to think about what might be more cost savings for construction and money. a little bit more on the day-to-day basis. So, um… When you're talking about not venting, not putting the hood in, and not, um… Did you mention about, um, putting other vents in? just exhaust vents? Uh, we did speak with… He did speak to Aaron McConnell, he is, um, our Mechanical consultant, and engineering. And they would be working to provide additional needs to ventilate the space. Um, about not what… or at least showing, just to help offset that and minimize it as much as possible. Correct. I would kind of circle back to what the actual designs would be. I… I have my guess, but I could be wrong, so I'll let him operate. Okay. That's a pretty significant thing. Yeah.

059Not to mention, you're not putting holes in the roof or the wall. Yeah, cam lock, so we see a good question? Yeah, good. Um, for the high school, where we have the walk-in… older and freezer. We have… Well, throughout the entirety, we have a fairly shallow space, and so… We have the Walk Learn Freezer, and 8 inches above it is the deck, so it's… it's very, very comply. One of the questions that will come up, how are we accessing Um, of, of these, uh… these units, um, because traditionally, the CAM law is on the device. So, it is actually within… Each of the units, so you can access them once you're in… Thanks. I think that… I think that covers them all from the email. Um, hand sinks… The hand sinks, um… are just to

060reiterate this, because I just got sticker shock, um, you said $15,000 per hand washing sink? And then… so with the high school breakdown was 4 planned in there. And we only need one year of the prep counter. Um, yeah, so the… Department of Health doesn't necessarily provide direction on where to be this. Well, I mean, we have one… Okay. I think one or two is… It's more than sufficient. It's a very long space, if you think about observing to the edge of the kitchen. I would recommend considering each other conjunction. I'm going to add more. Especially if you think growing up. That'd be great. other items. Um, no, she covered all that. Um, just the other big decision is what you… what we want to do with… two different types, um… dishwashers, one that did,

061with a hood. One that's not, and just to recap on that, If we go with non-vented, um… Uh, dishwasher. It's a savings of about $24,000. Um, the downside to that? is that, um, we still would need an exhaust vent, right? And, um, without the exhaust vent, it would probably pass the air conditioning unit a little bit more. But with the exhaust vent, Um, that would help make up for that. extra seating warrant for the kitchen. Does the board want to, um, finalize these, um, right now, or…? They… they take a moment to process. I think we just need to know what a rough estimate is going to be on the exhaust vent before we can do anything that's kind of the… If it's enough in the air, then it's, you know, is it going to

062wipe out savings completely? Uh, and I would… I mean, preferably take it out the wall. You're going to be on an exterior wall anyway. For that dishwasher, I believe. Yeah, the one at Wheeler's on the wall. So, if we can take it out… Yeah. It doesn't have to be algorithm. A running joke, and uh, my firm when I work with, everybody is… I love the mechanicalism, so they don't have to see it. part of a building. Yep. There's no… no way to go out the back, is there? Not really. There's no void space. Are there any, any, any of the design features the board would like to, um, finalize tonight before capturing them? Gretchen, we… Dave, my comments. get rid of two hand sinks. I like that one. Yeah, yeah, we got that one. I

063think the other one is what the cost of the ventilation Um, uh, whether it's out the… out the side of the building to the front, or the roof, what's the, um, cost and the size? of the general exhaust fan. And keep in mind, if you're… If you're going up, just keep in mind that if you go up, you start with warranty issues. Right. That's why I'm saying go out the side wall. You're on an exterior wall anyway. Yeah. You're gonna have good makeup area in there? Also. We really gotta talk to Aaron McConnell. So, then we also get our strengths. Right. 25,000 makeup there. You guys have the blueprint for overhead views of these projects, right? Sorry, Jamie. The overhead views, the blueprints of these projects? Besides these drawings, yeah. Yeah, we have the drawings.

064Yeah. Okay, when we did the page turning, with the, um, during the day, and then with the facilities committee, we went through most of those. Yeah. And I think the office stuff down here, you could probably finalize that. You're not going to get much more space. No, we're limited to the space, it's just… Other things would be better, but there's not… Where the sickness window goes makes sense, moving it further in. Though it's not too close to the entry level. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. And I think the exterior of the industrial arts. as a redesign is fine. Yep. Agreed. And as far as, like, the… Yeah. And the lettering stuff, we can… really doesn't matter. You know, we can… we can change the building's name to… STEAM or STEM, or leave it industrial

065arts, it's really the preference of the board. Board can leave that up to… you can ask staff and students to meet. We've gone past. That could get dangerous. Building the building. Not naming the building after someone. There's a board policy for that. And I think the interior You might want to digest it a little bit, but… Okay. I'm good with keeping it simple. Easier to clean. Simple things like workplace, I mean, honestly, state isn't going to care what color we're… calling things, but us, I mean, even on a good day, if we're going through a painful. Yeah. Um… I would encourage… I'm trying to think of our OECM regularly scheduled this Thursday. I believe we have our next one right around the time when we're trying to book equipment, so… You know, over the course

066of the next… So any color claims, sir? Uh, staff would be beneficial? Yeah, we can figure that out. Yeah, I mean, so things like if you decide you want to pay for us, segment. Circle. Right. That will have an impact on the benchmarks a little bit. And you said, um, just from the color representations that you showed tonight, They're showing up lighter. Okay. They're so bright. But we can certainly bring a field sample before. I just… one of the things that we've been doing in the last couple projects is trying to stick with a color scheme. as, you know, the traditional OCS screen. Yes. It's very nice. Let's bring in those others. Okay. Great. Any other questions? Thank you, lady, thank you. Thank you. Appreciate your time. Okay, financial reports. Motion to accept the following

067financial reports as presented. So moved. Second. Questions, comments, concerns? All those in favor? Aye. Opposed? abstain, 36-0. Hey, Superintendent's report. I was, uh, honored and privileged to be invited to the Micron Clean Room ribbon Cutting. They actually called it a wire cutting. Um, because it's electronic, um, so I keep calling it a ribbon cutting, but it's actually a wire cutting. Um, and uh… the other piece that was nice is one of our alumni Um, uh, was, uh, the keynote speaker, which we shared out on our social media. Mr. Hay did a great job representing Onondaga Central, as well as OCC. in the, um, in his, uh, keynote marks, and, um… Uh, I was very proud to be part of OCS when Mr. Hay was here as a student, as he started out in the automotive

068program. And, um, you know, his story was in Syracuse.com and online as well. And, uh, changed his path to, um… Uh, getting trained to work in the clean room with Micron. And, uh, I just thought that was, uh, uh, it was a privilege to be part of that, and just wanted to share that with the board, and share that with the community. And celebrate one of our alumni. Uh, for consideration going forward with the STEAM school, with Syracuse City School District. Last year, because of budgeting, we did not participate, but I wanted to get this out to the board. Um, and I've already shared it with Mr. Mumford and the guidance counselors. is, um, uh, the ability for OCS to start to think about it. We'll look at it from a budget perspective. Don't look

069at it as an opportunity Um, if we do choose to participate this year and send students would be the second cohort. This year's cohort is a group of 9th graders at the STEAM school. Um, they'll be doing acceptance fees each year as a 9th grade cohort. It's a 4-year program. Um, one of the pieces that many of the schools, and I'll just speak about Onondaga Central, is when a student goes to the STEAM school, different from when a student goes to, um, uh, OCM BOCES. career and technical education program. That student that goes to the STEAM school becomes a STEAM school student. They're no longer an OCS student. And they don't participate in extracurricular activities for, um, Onondaga Junior Senior High School anymore. They participate in athletics and all other extracurriculars. at the STEAM school,

070which in last year's discussion, as we were getting up to the point, and then we decided that, from a financial standpoint, we weren't sending it to students. But, um, leading up to that, we had shared with some of the families and students that they would participate in extracurricular activities at the STEAM school. Some of them opted. stayed on a DACA Central. So, there are some choices to be made with that. with regards to our participation, it's $25,000 a year. Um, for each student, it's aided very, uh, on the same aid ratio that we have for a student attending a… Um, BOCES program, so we'll get somewhere between… Joe, you might know this right off the top of your head, somewhere between 75 And 82% back, I'm sleep. Right? Just about. Just about, yeah. So, just

071in terms of the funding source, they get the funding, we get about 75-82% of it back. Um, last year we didn't participate. There's nothing requiring us to participate. Um, but it's something that we need to take into consideration as we go into budget season. Um, and uh, you know, take that into account. Um, along with, um… budget season, um, and then at the next board meeting, we'll have a little bit more detail as we get closer to the budget. Joe's gonna, um, put together the budget calendar. Um, but there's already some talk, uh, from Albany about the doom and gloom of this year's budget. Um, I'll be interested to see if that… if those rumors come true. Um, they're talking about a structural deficit of around 4.8% right now that could be up around 6.

072For 7%. Um, I have questions on those numbers, on the validity of those, based upon what the state is doing now with the inflation rebate checks. Um, and if we have, um, a structural deficit in the budget, how are we giving out rebate checks and what that's going to do to the school? budget from New York State. So, all things not to worry about, but all things to keep in the premise. you know, keep on the back of our minds as we get ready to head into budget season. Um, it's happened before where they talk about the state budget and doom and gloom. At this time, and then it comes out to be, um, better than expected. It's kind of like managing expectations. So, um, as more comes in that, um, I will share that

073with you. Um, uh, two Sundays ago, uh, um, I was invited to, um, meet the Commissioner of Education and the Board of Regents. at, um, Syracuse University's Veterans Center. Uh, we went up there for about an hour and a half reception. the superintendents, uh, around the area, and some board members that could make it. Um, and was able to meet the commissioner and the Board of Regents. Um, uh, they did a, uh, about a day and a half to two-day tour within the area. Visiting the, um, the OCM BOCES, which was interesting, is the Board of Regents had never visited a BOCES. The current Board of Regents, so that was, um, a pleasant eye-opener for them in learning about the career and technical education programs. Um, and uh, for me, it was an honor to

074meet the, um, Board of Regents members. Um, uh, I know Regent Mannion from our area, who's, uh, from the Manlius area. Um, he's been around a lot, he's very visible, um, very approachable, um, man, um, in my opinion, doing a great job. Um, with his leadership as a Board of Regents. Um, his first name is Patrick. Um… Any questions on what I've done so far and what I've presented? Um, staffing and grounds, we still have the grounds position opening. Um, and we're still looking for a lunch monitor for, um, Rockwell, um, in the interim, we're, uh, filling in grounds. Shane can get into more detail with substitutes that we do have. Um, and uh… Mrs. Kilmore's… making do with staff and, um, filling in with, uh, the lunch monitor. lunch monitors in the interim. So,

075attached our, um… Um, the… some of the photos and the stuff from, uh, the OCC, along with some photos of Nick Hay. So, any of your questions, that's all I have. Great. Yep, you're welcome. administrative? The average 7-day yield for my class is 3.932%, the district would earn almost $46,000 of interest and $700 wage has come back from the general fund. Uh, we met with NBT Bank, on making sure our rates, what we're getting back as competitive. eyeglass, but they're off by just a few bases. That nuclear rate was still… Right now. Uh, we also have a scheduled meeting with the team next week. Um, we are working with New York Bus Sales on the New York's, uh, New York State school bus incentive. program, or it is fit to apply for the voucher that

076we applied for last year. Once awarded, just means a window to take, uh, ownership of the bus, so we're trying to work out our timing, so the recommendation will figure out a bus is We're speaking of November, we'll start working on that application and getting it in. The districts actually can't apply for the voucher. Um, last meeting, we talked about the debt service schedule, what it looked like to go for pre-combustion, um, engine buses, 5 kibbuster. and the electric option, um, attached to that sort of schedule from our fiscal advisor. the kind of quick gist of it is, pre-combustion engines come in an average of about $25,000 per year, or $4 per $100,000. taxes. We've come in at about $40,000 per year, or $6.39 per bus. Um, while working with our fiscal advisor, EV buses

077are funded over 8 years, but the expectation is that we received all the vouchers. So then I asked, well, hypothetically, if we weren't to get a voucher, what would this look like in the future? So that is also part of that report, and the impact of the $8.33 for 3 buses per month. So, it'll be following, yes, less of that as well. I also report out last meeting on our state forms. All state aid forms have been submitted as of October 1st. We're switching them to get back and cleaned. They put out a memo saying, All districts need to have all of their forms submitted by October 15th, so we were well ahead of schedule. wrapped up and answer any questions we'll take us. Matt's not able to mix tonight's meeting, so I'll be doing

078an issue report on his behalf. Um, 5 of our 6 remaining buses sold on Auction International have been picked up. This includes the 3 abandoned buses, um, that were originally purchased, and then the Uh, we named pre-constern Auctions International, and then never communicated with us, and it turned out they actually bought the next round of buses, so we said, hey, your bus… I guess it's a little, you know, Victor that you had the bus stop down to Texas, so they have all six of their bus… 5 of 6 are coming back for their 6 buses. So, all of our boxes are sold constantly out of here. Um, successful bus driver route rebid when four drivers switch routes all went smoothly today. One of the drivers down on Medical and scheduled a return next week, which

079will be helpful, and another is healing up nicely, but again, not ever made about this time, and… That's what I got. You know what the average return was on those buses? Um, not off the top of my head, but I was more experience, I don't know. Um, higher on the September. Yeah, I think the average return, we had two coming in around $25,000. We had a small bus, I think it's average return on all 5 or 6, we got $15,000. If I were to guess, just going from that, you know. built layouts, of course. I will absolutely follow up. That'd be good. maintenance? Thank you, Joe, for taking over Pat's, uh, report. Appreciate that. Thank you, Pat, for getting close to us this Saturday. Uh, so maintenance is working on, um, we're installing some de-icing

080on the roof over at, uh, district office. Over here, we have… money to build up, so they're working on that right now. This reply camera installation, so over here… cameras, update, update cameras. As they go, so we're working on that right now. Grounds, is this continuing to show up? For sports? We have sports almost every day, you know, so we're out there painting. We're working on. We asked a couple of candidates on that. I was trying to get to the right path. Uh, so hopefully next 14 we'll have somebody, uh, to present to the court on that. Uh, so… Also, I just wanted to thank you guys can all possible. Last Friday on the half day, we did an asbestos strain in our 2-hour asbestos drain for all of them. by staff, so that was

081a great thing. Had a couple hours, got everybody in early. Okay. Um, so on the car report, I just want to go over the car report quick. I don't know if anybody's seen it, but just a couple things to go over on that. Uh, Monday we can get the third boiler downstairs. Alright? It's completed, it sounds like there's the same. So that's a great thing. You know, I took most of the day, but it got there, so that was a good thing. Uh, other thing is the key tech unit in, uh, my office has been completed, too. That's permanent bed. That's also a good thing since winter's done. It's getting a little chilly up there. So, um, also… The world belongs the logs up at the, uh, baseball deal, the tall ball field where I

082have to be, uh, working on them right now. Uh, working with CMS and that. Uh, we have a… we're giving them deadlines to pay some stuff in the shop. All right, we also have a couple of things also in, uh, wheeler and manufacturer. finish up balls over there. They're waiting on Friday, so they're trying to come and do a lot of fun for us. But we're… we are getting deadlines as of right now. But at the point, because it's not complicated, it'll suck. We're gonna… we're gonna have some more conversations. Um, so, you know, on that, um… You know, that's pretty much it right now. You know, this little odds and ends, so I'm not… of, uh, based on. You know, I'll punch this stuff, and we're working with contractors closely on that, and that's

083where we're at right now, so any questions? Right, thank you. Good job. to the mental health clinic with, um… on another county. We're currently on hold with providers, so Helio and Liberty don't have capacity currently, so Rob and I have a tentative meeting scheduled with, um, here to talk about next steps and what to do as we're kind of in a… Raphora. Hey, just first, I'll start with some general updates from Rockwell. On Friday, we celebrated Indigenous peoples slash day by having Prince Thomas Punk do a performance at morning program. It was awesome. We extended his stay this time, since we had a half day, and all of the students were able to go out onto the playground tour via and to warm it, interactive learning experience for dances. it's a lot of fun to

084watch, and um… to participate in, and it was a great extension activity, so that was a great answer. Our half day. We will be celebrating Fire Prevention Week this week. Um, a little delayed due to the holiday, um, and availability, so this Friday, we will be having our fire prevention Morning program, so thank you for everyone for wanting to help out and volunteer with that. Or that it's always very informative and fun. Uh, we could introduce breakfast choice, and our breakfast… I'm gonna go grab those procedures, so the month of September, we were doing cereal, because we wanted to make sure that the had the procedure straight, and everything was going very smoothly, so we were able to reintroduce all the items on the money for rent. And, uh, our PD on a half day

085was very successful. We looked at a portrait of a graduate and unpacked that for a while, began our work and discussion around Portrait of a student for each grade level. Looking at essential standards for our grade level, and able to do some vertical work with the grade levels below, so that we could see and talk to the teachers of those grade levels about what was super essential for the incoming students at that level, and these are going to be hacker throughout here. Um, so an update on the preschool blood test program in partnership with the Onondaga County Lead Prevention Program. Um, we are prepared for this day. We had 28 preschool students currently right now. Of those students, 6 students were identified as not having screened for the blood before, so those families were reached

086out to personally. Um, and we have 3 of those families currently registered, 2 are just awaiting confirmation, and 1 declined. So right now, we have 5 that have been waiting, definitely. past people on that day who have not been previously tested. We also had a square message go out to all pre-K families on the 7th. inviting anyone who would like that testing can also sign up. Um, and they also, he said hopes of hard copies of backpacks. So, um, I really look forward to being able to continue that partnership. We also have, thank you, I want to give a big shout out to Jess Cast, who initiated this project, um, in memory of Nathan Koski and all of our Uh, staff and family members who have battled breast cancer throughout the years that we are

087having a thought and come to Rockwell to serve as center staff or community members for that free campus. So they will be able to sign up and they are currently… that's going to be on November 21st. wires and information was sent to Metro Care Space Group, Facebook group, the Metro Community Group, the Netro Leagues Fire Auxiliary Group, 20 groups, so we're trying to get the word out there if anyone… provide, um, information on that as well, just to get that out to the community. He gives composers to Green Hills as well. Um, and the invitation is by respect to all staff to ask for help citing the word on them. Any questions? Great, thank you. Hey, Wheeler. Miller, a couple updates. Picture Day is tomorrow. Uh, the club started, running club is, is… running. Uh,

088we have about 130 last week. Uh, they're in mile 2, I think. They're getting their certificates. Uh, Passport Club has started. Next week, Character Club will start. Uh, student council will start next week. Uh, we also have, uh, PTO-sponsored, uh, Monster Bash on the 22nd. More information on that, we'll go out to Paris Square at Wheeler. Um… Cabinet Kurtz, an author visit, is going to be the 24th. Uh, at school all day, and, um, just… Everything else is going as planned so far. The fist bump is now every day. So, Friday? Great, yes, special guests lined up the next, uh, few weeks, so stay tuned for that. And we actually have people starting to reach out to us wanting to be. part of that price, so that's good as well. Um, I see Matthew Bill's

089up there again, so if you want to fire a PowerPoint again, I can go through it again. No? Okay. Any questions? Thank you. So, we, uh, had, uh, busy, uh, couple weeks at Junior Senior High School. Uh, we had 6 students attend a field trip to the New York State Unified Courts with Judicial District and government swearing in. Uh, Max was one of them. Right? Yes, yes. And, uh, so they, uh, did, uh, event schedule where the students arrived, they took notes of office, administered by a Supreme Court Justice, Um, and then they had breakout groups with, uh, the judges and court staff about qualities of an effective leader. Um, and I think it was a very… worthwhile field trip. Perfect. Uh, so they had the… the students had the opportunity to speak to judicial

090and non-judicial leaders in the court system. and learn strategies to help them further develop their own leadership skills. Um, the Principal's Cabinet, Matt, uh, as I mentioned at the last board meeting, uh, the topics were wind, backpacks and the cell phone policy. Um, for the most part, the students were kind of opposed to backpacks. Uh, they still feel that it's a necessity that they feel is work for them to be able to carry their personal belongings, uh, with them. Uh, it was, uh, commented on by a few of the students that As I mentioned, the backpacks could be heavy, um, and they said, well, the students need to do a better job of managing that, um, and carrying around the back packs. Um, and I also talked with department chairs about lessening the supply list

091and redesigning the supply list to make sure that we're using the items that are still on there. Uh, so that we can less, uh, supplies at the street. So we're working on that. Uh, the cell phone policy, everybody, uh, was in agreement that the cell phone policy is beneficial, uh, and they like it. The one thing that they have all asked for is to be able to listen to music at some point. And, uh, we are, uh, looking at that. We actually are implementing a reading program for rewarding students for pre-reading. Uh, which is, I think, a valuable, uh, thing that they could do if they're in their downtime, um, and allowing them to do that. Uh, some students feel that they, you know, focus better, um, when are drowned out sound as well. Um,

092we could use their Chromebooks with wired headphones, Um, in there, but right now, the streaming service is unlocked, uh, so that they don't have access to it. So that's something that we will look into in the future, um, and look at, um, moving forward. Um, and then the wind, uh, everybody, for the most part, in the principal's cabinet thought that they went. Period. It's very helpful. Uh, they thought that they really, uh, benefit from being able to meet with their teachers to go over, uh, anything that they're struggling with, get their homework done, ask questions, uh, and it's a time savings. So, just some data. Last year, we did a student survey. Uh, last year and this year, and the results were, um, on a scale of 1 to 5, 5 being the best. Uh,

093how beneficial do you think the win period was, the average rating last year was 3.87? Uh, this year, it's a 4.28. So, um, I think our targeted, uh, assignments of the students to the teachers that they have, um, and areas where they Uh, struggle, uh, has benefited that, and I think that that's helped. Um, the last year, uh, did you build a win period addresses your individual learning needs? Last year was 87%, and this year it's 93%. So they feel like it's more targeted than that. area. Some of the comments, uh, again, we had over 200 people comment. Uh, having club meetings during wind, it allows to actually go to, uh, meetings. Not all people can stay after school. Um, however, we're trying to balance that out because the other opposite at the principal's cabinet

094was, Do we have to have club meetings and or activities during VIN? That's the time I schedule for our meeting with the teacher. So we're working on that. Um, not, uh, much, just annoying how when I have no work to do, I have nothing to do and when. So, I didn't change or edit any of these. I'm reading them straight through what they put… I struggle with the noise levels during wind, but I understand that it can be difficult to manage. Uh, it's great as an athlete, I get my work done, so I don't have to do homework when I get home. Only thing to improve is to make it a little more organized. Allow people with the ability to leave class for a couple minutes to go see another teacher, but not have to

095stay there. Um, which is right now, if you get assigned to it, you can have another smart pass to be eligible. So we're working on that. Um, so somebody made a suggestion of making it later in the day and not just a support period, make it in the afternoon. Uh, maybe having some certain… amount of people come to another teacher to win, because many people go to the teacher they don't have or need anything from. more of a hang-up period. They wanted to be more structured. Uh, making sure that the environments aren't too loud. Currently, it's difficult to concentrate. Uh, making students aware of quiet places so that they can go get work done. So, we're looking at using the library as a quiet space, uh, for students who don't want to go with a

096teacher and just want to sit and have a quiet period to work at. Um, and then, like, don't have pep rallies or mandated activities during when? Uh, one person said nothing, it's great, everything is fine, and sometimes if I don't know something, I may need to look up a tutorial, but you guys block everything. It's not helpful. Stop it. Again, just some of the comments that I thought were, uh, you know, interesting. Max, anything on the principal's Cabinet that… IMS, or that you wanted to share? Right? Uh, we have, uh, about 10,000 and… 20, we introduced the peer mentoring program, um, and they kind of, uh, went away after COVID. Uh, New York State has now set up a program where they will help support us to develop a peer mentoring program. I've reached out

097to the New York State representatives, Um, and met with them actually today, and we are in the process of starting up a new peer mentoring program here, where basically we'll pair our juniors and seniors with 7th and 8th graders, Um, and, uh, try to match them up. Um, the mentors have to go through a training, which we're scheduling for at the end of this month, and then we're going to do, uh, the mentees coming in the week after to kind of meet and greet and do some icebreakers. And then, um, you know, we're using, uh, different data points to identify the students who are struggling by misbeem, one, uh, academics being another, uh, and then counselors and teacher recommendations for… mentees, uh, that, you know, students that could use that little extra support, having somebody

098in the building. Uh, that is not a adult, but is more of a peer. So, we're in the process of setting that up. I'll have more details at the next board meeting about how that's going. Nice thing about it is it's completely free. And it's a grant, and it's through New York State. So, uh, we're having two individuals come to help frame our mentors, um, Um, and then… Any questions? Thank you, thank you. Thank you. Alright, so I have the upcoming game schedules for all models, um, so girls varsity soccer is playing tomorrow at Kelly at 6.30. Boys soccer played tonight at Modern Day. Volleyball has a Teacher Appreciation Night for both JV and Varsity tomorrow night. Football and cheer will be traveling to Pulaski on Saturday for a noon game. And cross-country has a

099home meet tomorrow at 4.30 at Sarah, we have to prepare. Uh, the upcoming modified game schedule, uh, modified football had the game on Thursday. versus Bishop flooded in the stadium at 4.30. Girls hottified Soccer is playing tomorrow at Bishop London at 4.30. Voice, modified soccer, played today as well at Lafayette. And cross-country modified also as part of the Holt Four Third. Uh, the open coaching position that we still have, we have a varsity assistant softball coaching position. We have a JV softball head coach position, which I did actually receive one person of interest. Uh, today, they texted me and said they were interested, so we're gonna look into that. a varsity baseball assistant coach. Once again, the new varsity baseball coach texted me at 5 o'clock tonight and said he had somebody in mind, so

100hopefully we get an afternoon soon for that one as well. Uh, we also have a modified baseball head coach opening and a varsity tennis head coach opening. That's all I have is a question. Thank you. Thank you. Board of Education members! double-check that extra blood. I'm sorry, I thought it was fine. Yeah. Yeah, hold on real quick. Okay. Yep. Maxwell. have anything to talk about this week, or…? It's up to you. No, I don't think I have anything. Thanks for everything, as always. Tomorrow at 4.30. Oh, okay, we have… we got a Thursday. At home. You're talking about boys football. What are you… We have a model of my football game, my third thing. Yes, boys. Yeah. 4.30. At 4.30. I don't have a single time. I don't know if we have the chance. thoroughly

101all set. Okay, Noel? Thank you, everyone. I'm good. Amy? We attended training… board training, on governance Saturday. Oh, yeah? And I went to it, kind of like… This ought to be good. And it was actually very good. It was great. It was money well spent, so… Awesome. Yeah, it's good. How long did it last? The whole time. All day. 9 to 3. I haven't been to it in quite a while. Yeah, but it was… it was… It was really good, really good training, actually. Nice. People that do it, top notch, so… That's good to know. Very good. Good, thank you. Were all three of you guys able to go? Yeah. Nice. And you have, uh, financial training? in, like, a month or something like that? Yeah, like, 20th or 25th of the… So did you

102do that online? Nice. One more class. One more time or end of the month. Okay. Cool. I was just curious. Alright. Maxville has something. Oh, Max. Oh, um, I lied a little bit. It's okay, go ahead. You're mine. So, last week, um, I did go to the swearing ceremony, like, Mr. Buffer said. Oh, yeah. Those are a really nice experience, and um, we got to break off in groups due to… We got… I got to meet with the Judgment Mann. And he did a… he did a couple fun experiments. He did this one experiment, um, he said, like, pink elephant. And, like, he asked everybody what they saw, And I was… I was the only one who saw, like, the word pink elephant. And he asked me if I was left-handed, and I was the

103only one in the room that was left-handed. So, coming back. We, uh, we started talking. We talked a little bit after… Um, the whole state. And I figured out that him and my father went to high school together. Oh, wow. So, we had a couple funk stories about my dad. Cheers. Careful. Yeah, we'll hear about them later. Very good for that, an executive. Yeah, uh, consent basis items, uh, can I have a motion to consent items G1… through G14. So moved. Thank you. Well, it's a good one. Oh, yeah, G2 to G14. removed. Motion and Laurel seconded. Second, okay. Questions, comments, concerns about any of the items? Okay, uh, all those in favor? Aye. Opposed, abstain carries 7-0. Speaking to the board… Andrea Chrysler. Good evening, everybody. Um… For loving things come down. share my

104issue with you. Um, I'm Andrea Kessler, I'm here to discuss, um, curving poster. being torn down without permission. Um, he was supervised throughout the process. Um, by a stint by some staff. to make sure that the poster was not something that could message. Um, and was gonna sort of be… rather simply acceptable, I understand everyone's what it is. Um, but it was approved, and it was taken down, um… I believe it was 4 or 5 times, my teachers, students, staff, like, Um, it was posted on the bulletin boards that are for the kids to everything I'm super bulge going forward, so I'm just going to speak to, like, our incidents that happened. He and a couple of friends requested to put up, um, a day after. Early Kirk was assassinated. And they received first and

105sat right in. They came down several times. Um, as I've said, I understand everyone is not going to agree, but the content of both their I understand that more than you can imagine. But I'm always trying, and I know we all collectively are trying to teach… tolerance acceptance, and I felt like this was… I think licensing his voice and sending the right message that I would like to send to him. And to all of the children at our Super Bowl in the city. Um, our role is divisive enough, so if you have a safe place to And feel protected to use their voice. I know that he had a conversation with a couple other students who did not. They didn't agree with each other, but they had a one-year level. Honestly, like, admirable for adults,

106because I've seen adults in camp. Um, people differently about a topic, and I can handle the way these two did, so I'm very proud of them for that. Um, but what… basically, what I'm here for to ask you board respectfully. Um, if you can, perhaps, going forward amongst yourselves, of course, clarify and reinforce policies on how approach… are handled, and take some steps to prevent similar events happening in the future. Um, like, educating staff on the site, school property and expressions. Despite the possible discomfort that we come along with it. Um, I feel as though Billy and all of his skills should be able to express themselves as long as they are within the boundaries. Um, I hope we can work together to help this incident of burning opportunity. for our school and community, and

107as I said, encourage tolerance and acceptance across all sides. Um, thank you for your time. That is all. Thank you. Okay. E1, discussion of Policy 7411, Censorship of School-Sponsored Student Publications. and activities. we put this on as a policy committee. Um, based upon the events exclusively upload. Um, I just wanted to bring the policy up, put it online. It's in our policy, it's in our board policies that are there. And we wanted to, um, uh, talk about, and it's a nice segue, for Mrs. Chrysler when we started the event, um… when the boys reached out to Mr. Mumford and wanted to, um, do a memorial for Charlie Kirk, Um, we try… we try to devise an opportunity for a learning experience for them. Um, and unfortunately, the posters did get taken down a couple times.

108Uh, one of the pieces that we tried to focus on during this process. And it was… All in the summer, Mr. Mumford? that we had talked about having these, um… bulletin boards where we would advertise, um, uh… things for the student body to, um, put up there, whether you're running for office. um, a class office, that is. Um, whether there was artwork or announcements of events, those type of things on there. So when the boys came and, um, asked if they could do a memorial, um, in honor of Charlie Kirk. we felt that those bulletin boards were the, um, right place to have that… have that happen. Um, and we did that. And then, um, as they stayed up over a period of days, I don't remember how many days they were up, sure how

109many it was, um… But as we got towards the end of that, and um… it was a Friday, I think, a week ago, over a week ago, I think it was, um, we had some unapproved posters, uh, um, get put up, and then we took those down. The people who put up the unapproved posters started taking down the memorial for Charlie Kirk. Um, and things started to get a little pressured within the building. Um, so I decided to, um, shut it all down. Um, in terms of a memorial period ending. And I think one of the things that we learned from this… is, um, we gave the students an opportunity to, um, voice their opinions. Um, one thing with memorials that we didn't think of, is how long do we leave them up? Um, and

110that's something that, you know, that we learn from the process, is do we put a timeline on them? And how long do they stay up? Um, and then… Um, you know, Mr. Cooper and Mr. Mumford, um, uh, you know, address the students that put posters up that weren't approved. met with the students that wanted to do memorial for Charlie Kirk. I met with students who Um, uh, want to do the memorial for Charlie Kirk, as well as our student board members. So, um, I think we, uh, is what we could physically control without controlling people like robots. We could… we controlled what we could do. Um, and we've learned some things from that to move forward. So, at the policy committee, Um, Jamie and, uh, Noel, you can add in, in terms of, we just

111thought we should bring it up. And have it as a discussion item. There's no action required right now for this policy, just to put it out there, to show everyone what the policy is. If people are having trouble finding it on the policy committee, Around the policy pieces online. Um, but that's all I have to say on the policy, and Um, you know, what we, you know, how we handle the situation and tried to make it a learning experience. And that was the policy we already have and still currently have. We didn't change anything, that was… that was just what it is. Yeah, that was the comment I was gonna make as well. We just brought it forward so everyone's aware what the policy is, and that we didn't make any new changes to it.

112Um, and just the… Hmm, superintendent was exercising the part about it having become a disruption and distraction. Which was unfortunate. Moving forward, what are you going to allow or not allow? Well, we have… we have the leeway within our policy of what we can allow and don't allow, and… Unfortunately, sometimes that becomes subjective. You know, it's not always a black and white piece. One of the things that I had said to the kids when we had met, is, you know, we've allowed, um, different posters within the building Um, for different, um, uh, supporting different people in different groups. And we have never, um, discriminated against those posters. And that was kind of where we started when they wanted to do a memorial. is if we've allowed students in the past that we felt it was,

113um, uh, prudent that we afford this learning experience. So, I guess going forward, we can always rely upon our, um, board policy, that if we think something is too desir… too decisive, and this is where it becomes subjective and maybe a little objective. At the same time, if that even makes sense, Um, is in terms of how hot of a topic is it And how hot of a topic will it become in the school where it becomes a distraction to teaching and learning? That's the piece where… Um, we draw the line, and I… I don't have a direct answer for you, Eric. It's just a matter of, you know, when we went down and we provided an opportunity for the kids, We did have some, um, students who, you know, tore down the poster a

114few times. I don't know the number, but they tore down a few. That was disappointing. And then they were putting up posters that weren't, um, approved. And then those posters were getting tore down, and on that Friday afternoon, Mr. Cooper and I were speaking. And I said, before this gets verbal, or into a verbal, or a physical conflict, let's shut it down for right now, so… Is there… Go ahead. Is there a disciplinary action for somebody that's doing this? I mean, what is their rules here? You guys approve it. It could if, um, if we felt like it needed to go that far. Um, anything more than, you know, speaking to Um, uh, uh, speaking to the students and giving them a warning to Something as far as if they could be suspended? You know,

115if the behavior is that insubordinate, and they're destructing what is considered school property, That's all the way to a suspension. Uh, and that's all within the range of our code of conduct. that, um, we reaffirm and approve every year, so… Um, I'm hoping it never comes to that. Um, you know, I don't… you know, I hope it never comes to that, I'll just say. I hope the students don't take it that far, and um… or stat, take it that far. I think… I think there has to be some… minimal disciplinary action. Because if you're going to have something that is there for the students, And as long as, you know, what they're putting up isn't… as long as it meets this policy, which, from what I had… what I saw of these posters, It met

116this, no problem. They asked, it was approved. It was put up. If somebody's not willing to go through that process, then, number one, I don't feel that they actually believe in their cause. They're just looking for problems. And number two, it should get taken down if they did not get approval for it. So, these secondary posters that weren't approved, should have been removed. And they weren't… right. Now, the people that were just tearing things down, or putting up unapproved stuff, I feel there should be some disciplinary action, because… If you don't, you set a precedent. of just basically allowing it, and wow, you might get a talking tube. Um, so I think it needs to be a 5-day suspension? No. Um, but it's got to be something. I don't know what it needs to be,

117personally. But another option that might… make a lot of this go away is… What about putting lockable covers over these boards? There's only two of them, right? Three of them. Three of them. potential for putting a lockable… I just want to make sure I made my number right. I mean, potential of putting lockable cover over them. to say, okay, you know, This is what we want to do, we get it approved, whoever it is… whoever it goes to to put it up, I don't care who the keeper or the key is. Um, they put it up. And then flop. Um… You know, if for some reason… It certainly would prevent… it certainly would prevent… It prevents the petty BS stuff. The petty stuff. But I think you're potentially missing a learning opportunity if your goal

118is… to have those discussions, like Andrea said, her son did, with some students, um, I think we're missing an opportunity to do that if we're just locking… I don't know, I don't know how I feel about locking it up. Sit up there, I think you still open the… have full opportunity for discussion. Sure, yeah. I guess in this case, bringing in the students who took it down and using that as a learning opportunity would be important. And I think the way that we dealt with it by initially allowing it and erring on the side of free speech and expression is important, and we should continue to do that as long as it meets the guidelines of this policy, for sure. Um, but kind of like Jason said, the fact that they probably… the people who

119are taking it down got what they wanted is… an issue as well. I agree with it. This… Being in the school, learning school data, who's happening. I mean, I was in the… I was in the classroom with them and all of them, JP and all the other guys that were gonna make all the citizens. And, um, I mean, I didn't… I understood what they were standing for, and I… I agreed with… stop the political violence. Um, and it was just kind of upsetting to see people like, not looking at the bigger picture, and… is taking those things down. You're not letting those kids… Like, letting their voices be heard, and especially, it was even more disappointing that the gates were upperclassmen with older kids, and these kids were just 8th graders, trying to get there.

120opinion, certain hate. Honestly, I remember me being an 8th grader, trying to get my opinion lacrosse. And it was… it would be heartbreaking to know that I… I, as a young kid, can't… have my voice be heard. Um, and I… I'm… I know those… I know the kids. very personally, I talk to them every day, I sit in the classroom with him every day. And… it just… It just became too much of a disruption, if that makes sense. Um, the posters were… the posters were good. I understood what they were standing for. But just the people ripping them down, people missing class, trying to get petitions signed to get them taken down. It was just all becoming too much, and people were coming in and out of the office for it. And it was just

121a huge disruption. for people misunderstanding what was trying to be said. So I… I understand… than just saying, just take the whole thing down, because it just calmed the situation down. for the, like, for the hot second, because… the situation that's… was causing too much of a disruption to the school thing. I appreciate you. might share that with us. Um, I agree with everything Mike said, and I also think the minute it becomes, but it's registered to learning. Obviously, they're there to learn as Priority? Um… I understand that, too. It sort of felt like… I thank you when you have asked a voice to come down to the office and told them what was going on, and that there was a petitioning, or if they were feeling unacceptable, it would have taken Then that work

122felt like they were being hurt. but still being respectful. to their peers and platform. And that was an alternative that I don't know if it was considered. Again, I wasn't there. I don't know, um… quickly it went from, you know, zero to 100. And like I said, once… once learning is disrupted and feels like it could get, you know, violent or… out of control than shutting it down makes sense. But even, like, on Monday morning, calling folks back in and kind of explaining. why I felt at that time. Because of the way some of them took it and some of the parents spoke with them was… didn't like it, they made more noise than we did, and they got what they… Of course, we explained that that's, you know, that wasn't… that's… that's a very

123simplified It's a 13-year-old boy. We did, um, quote him down, and we did… We did have a meeting with, uh… It was… it was me, a couple of the boys, Sam Mumford, and Mr. Price, and we explained to them… Okay. Um, this was before they were 10 calls. No, that's what, yeah, that's… no, I know you read it. I love that you guys had that. No, I… yeah, I think what you're saying is after that Friday, on that Monday morning… Yeah, in there on Friday, like, I understand that it's disruptive to the nearby? Well, they got taken down. for that, they got taken down before that, and that's when Mr. Mumford and I and Max and, um, Abigail, we sat down with the boys, and we had a conversation with them. Uh, that I thought

124was… was fantastic. Um, just in terms of how they articulated their feelings and their beliefs and wisdom. But I thought that was great. And, you know, that Friday, when Mr. Cooper called me, I was at a Title IX training. Mr. Mumford was out of the building. And he's… Max did a much better job of explaining how, um, things were starting to boiler. That was… that was my call. I said, before this boils, If anyone gets in any serious trouble. you know, let's shut this down. I think we've had about 2 weeks time from when the voice first started. Where we got to on that Friday. Um, and, you know, things didn't go perfectly, um, but I was pretty proud. of how it… how long it lasted, and how we were able to provide the students.

125especially 8th graders, you know, their voice for a period. And I appreciated the parents talking with you children. Um, in that, so… That was pretty good, but like with anything, lessons learned. You know, there's things like, oh, you know, we could have done this, or we should have done… So, and I appreciate the feedback. Rob, you said the publication of the posters were approved? But who's involved in approving things that go on the bullet board? Mr. Mumford, and then if he has a question, he sends… he sends them to me. What were some of the things on the bulk service? Um, on the Charlie Kirk poster was, just as Max said, was a, uh, it was a picture of Charlie Kirk. Um, and it said, stop the political violence. And that, and that, that idea

126came up from that meeting after the first um, round of posters were taken down. I think… On the second day, am I right, Mr. Mumson? It was within a day or two. So that… that came up as a discussion about, and then, um, Mr. Sparks then, um, in follow-up as the class advisor and the social studies teacher. He also spent some time talking with the boys and trying to, um, help them define what their message was. And, you know, providing them with some guidance. Um, and uh… from, uh, you know, kudos to Mr. Sparks. Um, about how his conversations And, um, and calling out, um, for the boys and helping them to find what their voice was with standing neutral. not going one side or the other, on such a very potentially hot topic as…

127We saw in school, and we saw across the country. I mean, it's a very hot topic. Before… The incident happened, I never knew. who Charlie Kirk was. And the only thing I do know about Charlie Kirk is the bits and pieces you get from Facebook, TikTok, and Reels. Oh, and I just think as a… educators as a… as a school district. we should be trying to promote togetherness instead. divisiveness. Right. You know, when a person disrespects women, people for being gay, or things like that. That's divisive, right? And we don't need that. as a community, right? And me being an African-American man, I've lived in this area for 20 years. I've had 4 kids come through this district. I've had all kinds of races come through my house. not racist, but different races of people.

128That's a call. And… I'm about preaching love and respect. And I'm not… I'm not gonna disrespect anybody that comes to my house. And I'm not gonna allow anybody to do that. But I think as a school district, we need to try to promote love. and togetherness, and not divisiveness. And I know… I understand that we're… you know, everyone does have a right. Right? But at some point, it's disrespecting other people at some point. So, if somebody's disrespecting Although cultures or beliefs I don't think it should be allowed in the school. And disrespecting women. We will be nowhere without women. You can't discret women. That's just what… the way… I raised my boys in my house. So, that's just my opinion. Not as a school board member, but as an American. Right? And we got a

129lot of stuff that's going on right now. And people are… Separating because of the color of skin? Bring it on. You ain't get nothing but love over here. All right? So, that's just my opinion. As Nate Brown, 56-year-old black male. That's it. Love you guys. they can… Let's go have a joint. Oh, I'm sorry, that's recorded. I do… we're resolved for moving forward with stuff like this, because if something happens tomorrow and somebody wants to put it up, what are we gonna do? Is this something we should talk about in an executive session? Is this something that we should discuss about? I think there's a policy in place to go by. I mean, what are you gonna do tomorrow when somebody comes to you and wants to put it up? Put something up? I'm gonna…

130I'm gonna look at our policy, I'm gonna have to make a judgment call with Mr. Mumford. As I did, I'll send out the poster when I got it, I sent it out to the board. I'll go through the same decision-making process. And it's either going to be nay or yay. Um, you know… If it goes up and it becomes disruptive after 2 weeks? We can take it down. But I think to echo what Nate was saying, like, keeping that inclusivity in mind going forward, I see some things in this policy that if I had… if I were… involved, if there was some kind of group that was proving posters… I do think I would have said, This is inconsistent with the educational mission. The statements stop political violence, obviously, is not. I think that's a

131wonderful statement, and I know that was the message they were trying to convey. But you are going to have a population of students who feel This person was not for me. This person… spoke, said really terrible things about people who look like me, or… you know, twice. I can see that there's, like, wraps up, there's subjectiveness within this policy. Yeah. The problem is… Anybody can find that with anything. Yeah. Oh, absolutely. I don't agree with that. Yeah, anyone can… Anyone can find that same thing with… You know, it doesn't matter. um, you know, a lot of the stuff that gets… posted that has nothing to do with school at all. you know, like I said before, I think as long as it meets this policy and is not… obviously obscene, drugs, you know, language. Obviously,

132we don't want to promote violence, anything like that. Um, but… I just… you're gonna sit here for… months talking about this. Because there is no answer. There's no black and white answer. I mean, I can… I can predict how it will go. is we will approve a policy. And we can have very similar Even with, you know, things that we learned from this, we can approve something else to go up, and we can still get the same reaction from kids. And we can still get the same reaction of kids either tearing them down, or we put them behind a lot, um… uh, face, like you recommended. Um, uh… you know, the most important piece that we tried to attempt with this is to have a learning experience for the kids. Um, and I think those

133intentions are pure. Um, and are we gonna get it all right all the time? No, we're not going to. We're human, and what we did see on that Friday, and… through Mr. Cooper's eyes, is we saw some kids starting to react just like people do in our society. Um, you know, and… I wasn't upset with the kids for doing that. I was upset that they were just… mirroring what they see on TV. I'm teaching the bill. All of them. Everywhere. They have done as well. And, you know, there's always going to be an expert. Well, I didn't think it was approved. Nobody's ever gonna agree. He was inherently implied, but… exact solution. discipline or, like, authority, someone will step in, and I'm not saying anyone's… active in South Bay left in. like, just, you know,

134Teachables all made off the bed. They realized that. Or just go and have a conversation and ask why it was approved, and say why you wish it wasn't It would be fantastic. Right. students who opposed it. going to Mr. Mumford, or going to a teacher, why is this… I'm offended by it. With that dialogue is… what we were trying to promote by giving millennial rural students a voice And another group of students… Did not react that way. We do some adjustments to the policy or to the process might be a… Pardon? I said maybe some adjustments to the policy or to the process. might be a good idea. And maybe we don't have a time frame from, like, the request. So that people can sort of collect everything needs to gather. And nothing should just

135be on the bulletin board forever, right? So I need, like, a time frame for once… I don't know, what else. You know, shouldn't stay forever, or should I plan for all of it. Yeah. tell the student, or whoever it is, you know, like, okay, like your idea, let me see if that fits in, but we don't have to get it up on the board that day. Right. Because a bit clever. Discuss it again, next policy committee. Yeah. Whoever wants to go to that, right? Fantastic. Yeah. I think the piece of that, it brings, um… a procedure for the policy that goes beyond, and Mr. Mumford or Mr. I, or myself, Street, Mr. I. Geez, that sounds really intelligent. At the hint that it's getting late. Yeah, it's a hint that it's getting late. Whatever my

136little miss! Um, but that speaks to the policy, and then… and then if there's a… Um, a small group of people that makes a recommendation, um, that this can go up. And then what I was saying is, is that nothing should be up there forever. Bulletin boards that they circulate, and then have a timeline. This is going to be up for 2 weeks. And then it summoned down, and then new stuff is going. So let's take it to the policy committee. You guys revisit this, and let's talk more about it. Okay. And see if there's some revisions, some language that we can put in to enhance it. Yeah, based on, you know, these last few weeks. I'm good? Yes. Yep. Okay. We're on it. Excellent. Thank you.
