All right. We'll start with that. Okay. Good morning. this morning. Today is January, [clears throat] 2026. This is the regular board meeting of Mobile County Public Schools. At this time, I ask Mr. Swing to lead us in prayer and the pledge of allegiance. >> Our blessed father, we thank you for this beautiful day. We thank you also for an opportunity for us to gather together to serve our community. Our father, we ask your continued blessings on our school system, especially with all of our staff members that work with the most precious asset we have in our community, our students. Please uh place your blessings on both of those groups. Our father, we pray for our first responders both home and abroad that protect us. Please keep your hands and uh safety for them in mind.
And our father, we also pray for peace in our country so that there is an understanding that we can work all together. And lastly, heavenly father, we ask that this board you provide it with thoughtful clarity and wisdom as we look and go over the items that the administration is bringing forward so that we can make the best decision. These things we ask in thy precious name. Amen. >> I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. >> Good morning. And now I call that at this time we call this a meeting to order. Uh may I have a approval of the minutes? >> So move. >> I hear a second. >> Second.
>> Any questions? All in favor? >> I. >> Thank you. Uh let's have the approval of the agenda adoption. Do I have a motion? >> So move. >> Miss Mr. Chair. Uh, I would like to add um an an item. Uh, if you will look at your consent uh agenda H36. Consent agenda H36. It is a contract for the Mardigra Association for our bands to participate in this year's Mardigra. It was a time-sensitive issue cuz the next board meeting Martyra would be over. So, we needed to go ahead and get it on this um month's agenda. So, I will be adding H36 Marty GR organization 2026. >> Madam Chairperson, I uh modify my motion and um move that uh we accept the uh agenda with the addition of H36 [clears throat] to be considered. >>
Okay. Do I hear a second? >> Second. >> All in favor? Uh okay, moving on. Um the agenda adoption. All right. Do we have any announcements, Mr. Green? >> Um only one with interest. Um there was an item on the board agenda that dealt with um what's going to be our AI policy for Mobile County. Yes, >> I read it and I want to tell you those the people in our IT department are topnotch. They are ahead of just about everybody in the state of Alabama. And so going forward, I think it would be an excellent thing for people to start taking a look at us and what we're doing. So I just would like to say uh good job by uh that department like that. >> Okay. Thank you. I know they greatly appreciate
that. We're ahead of the game. Uh, Mr. Parson, any announce? >> Again, I did the other day and I just want to do it. Uh, again, I want to commend our facilities department through this weather. Uh, haven't heard of any issues, major issues, and I just want to commend them for keeping us up and we got another blast coming through and hopefully that they'll uh get us through that. >> Mr. Hatcher? >> No, ma'am. Not at this time. >> Okay. Well, thank you. All right. Uh, I'm moving on to reports and recognition. >> Yes, ma'am. >> Thank you. I knew my son lost two seconds. That's [clears throat] >> all right. The Davidson High School robotics team has done it again. They are the top robotics team in the entire Southeast. Along with their robot
Rosalyn, do you see her? [laughter] >> Rosalyn. >> Um, it's Rosin with an AI in the middle of it. It's cute. Um, the team placed first overall at the South Best Regional Robotics Tournament, which was held in December at Alabama&M University. This year's competition had an AI theme as students were challenged to design a robot that could maneuver an obstacle course where they sorted factual information from incorrect information on the internet to train AI models. The team is led by coach Mike Fletcher and he is joined today by his principal Mr. Jason Richardson and his team. And so I'm going to name his team and if you're here raise your hand and show everybody who you are. So we have Luke Cobbell, Emil Amir Calderon, Acavdo, Will Co Pepper, Tori Davidson, Ty Doe, Kayn Federland,
Andre Gonzalez, Noah Hicks, Ry Huer, sorry, Ry Hussein, Farah Hujer, Fouad Hujer, Payton Humphrey, Akshhat Mahadavan, Landon McDavid, Shan Matier, Kyle McA Hamza Muhammad, Maline Wyn, Sumemed Patiel, Jillian Weeks, and Whisper Saunders. Congratulations, [applause] >> Mr. Richardson. I don't know. Do you have any students left at Davidson right now? >> There's a few there. >> Just a couple there. Well, let me say it's this is quite an honor uh to recognize this is becoming kind of a an annual affair because Davidson's robotics uh program has been exceeding all kinds of expectations over the past few years and I probably Mike I might need to be stand corrected but I know you had the state competition and you won that and then you right and then you went to the regional and you won that and
one of the things I was asking uh Mr. Fletcher and uh trying to get the answers for some of the kids. I think this is indicative of the robotics programs that are now coming through our middle schools and so forth. And this is continuing to grow and I'm just as proud as I can be for uh what this team and uh the coach Mike Fletcher and his folks have done. Mr. Mr. Fletcher, I'm going to give you an opportunity to say a couple of words here. >> Well, first of all, thank you for the support. Uh the um Dr. Melody Tucker was able to pay for some of our travel expenses this year with some travel funds. We appreciate that. And then of course, the support from Mr. Richardson has just been complete since the
very beginning of this program nearly 21 years ago. So, uh what we're seeing is an outstanding group of students that work very hard. It's an 8week competition, but uh we're many many hours after school um every day on Saturdays all the way through. So, they've worked very hard for this uh to be in this place. And then yes, there's the honor of the the trophies and that sort of thing, but the real benefit from this competition is the engineering design process, the experience working as a company, designing things, overcoming problems, using teamwork uh to work together. Uh these are skills that transfer into the into college and into the workforce very easily. And I've been proud of the the students that have come for the past 20 years and I'm sure these kids are going
to do great in college or the workforce wherever they want to go. >> I have a certificate of recognition from the county public school board for Davidson High School's robotics team first place and South in the regional robotics tournament. Congratulations to his team. [applause] >> Okay. Okay. I just want to know how they came up with the name Ros. >> Oh, yeah. >> Maybe somebody That was fun. [clears throat] >> Mr. Stringfell, >> I have a question. I have a question. Uh, Mr. Parson and I was just wondering how did y'all come up with the name Roslin? >> I mean I mean look at them. All of them are grinning now. So >> what's the story? >> Oh okay. Thank you. We got that. >> Thank you. [applause] You want us to come right there?
All right. >> So, I'm going to read this on behalf of Superintendent Threadgill. Whereas, the purpose of Mobile County Public Schools is to equip and empower college and career ready graduates. And whereas MCPSS is governed by five members of the Mobile County Board of School Commissioners, including President Sherry Dahe McDade, Vice President Lonnie Parsons, Mr. Don Stringfellow, Dr. Reginal Krenshaw, and Mr. Johnny Hatcher. And whereas the board is committed to all 50,000 students in Mobile County Public Schools, as well as the 7,000 teachers and employees of Mobile County Public Schools. And whereas the board closely works with parents and community members to create an educational vision for our students. And whereas board members continue to advocate for what is best to serve the children of our community each and every day. So now therefore, Superintendent
Crestell D. Threadgill hereby declares his appreciation to members of the Mobile County Board of School Commissioners and proclaims January 2026 as schoolboard recognition Month in Mobile County Public Schools. He urges all citizens to join him in recognizing the dedication and hard work of local schoolboard members and in working with them to mold an education system that meets the needs of all students. Thank you so much and congratulations. [applause] Yeah, there [clears throat] >> should have made a space in Photoshop for me. Yeah. >> No. Okay. Thank you for all of those recognitions and we're very proud of Davidson High School. >> Mr. Superintendent, do we have any citizen requests today? >> No, ma'am. >> Okay. All right. Let's move on to uh our agenda [clears throat] uh with action items. Mr. Superintendent. >> Yes, ma'am.
Uh we will begin with action item G1 the 202627 school calendar uh to disseminate for M input uh with options 1 and two uh that we do every year. Uh so I ask that you approve action item G1 202627 school calendar input. >> Okay. >> Madam chairperson. >> Yes. Since uh we vetted these and have had discussions [clears throat] and read, uh I move for approval of action items G1 through 15. >> G. Okay. We have uh a motion for approval of action items 1 through 15. Do I hear a second? >> Second. >> Okay. Question. All in favor? >> I. >> Any opposes? Motion carried. >> All right. Action item G16 is with Cynthia Corral. It is to provide graphic design services for the educational planning guide. Uh that's coming out of title four
funds for $13,600. I ask that you approve action item G16 with Cynthia Corral. >> All right. Do I hear a motion for action? >> A motion to uh accept uh 16 through 33. >> Okay. Thank you. Do I hear a second? Second. >> Okay. >> I had a question on >> question >> 33. >> Okay. >> Softball item. Is anybody here from facilities? >> Yeah. Mike Griff, >> are we partner with anybody on that? Is Alabama Power or what's the what's the scope of that job? right now in design. There is no partnership. >> Is this new poles or we we everything's new on it? >> You mean partners with as far as energy savings with you before we looked over way back and Alan Power come out actually and walked it one time and
I thought maybe they would have maybe partners with it. We'll probably use them as as far as the uh when we get the lights part of it. >> Y >> um m Mr. Superintendent. >> Yes, sir. >> I noticed that the fund source for that says to be determined. Uh I is it coming out of our capital funds or is it uh grant money from the state or or is that >> Yeah, I think there's a um I think Mayor Montgomery had some sort of uh grant for $200,000 and I think local will have to pick up the remaining balance. >> Okay. Okay. We have a motion [clears throat] for the approval of action item 16 through 33. We have a second. Those in favor? I >> I >> Any opposes? Motion carried. Let's move
on. >> All right. Action item G34 is structural improvement to the football bleachers at Central High School. Uh we received two bids. We went with the lowest bidder which was uh RHD's building for $79,971 and that fund source is local. Uh, I ask the board to approve action item G34, structural improvement to Central Nails football bleachers. >> Do [clears throat] I hear a motion for action items 34? >> Madam Chairman, I'd like to make a motion to accept action items 34 through 50. >> Action item 30 through 50. Do I hear a second? >> Second. >> All in favor? >> I. >> Uh, motion carried. Okay. We uh with the consent agenda and the um flowth through items. >> Do we do them together? >> Yes. >> Okay. >> So, we will start with the
consent agenda. Uh as I said at the work session, we will consolidate the consent agenda and we will vote on the uh entire consent agenda unless you have any questions. So, we will um I ask that you approve the consent agenda H1 through >> 36 >> I think it's 36 >> 36 >> which will include the H36 is the Marty GR organization that we added and it will also include the out of county travel 34 and 35 uh various bids. Mhm. >> All right. Madam chairperson, I move that we approve the consent agenda items for H1 [clears throat] through 36. >> Okay. Do I hear a second? >> Second. >> Okay. All in favor? >> I. >> Motion carried. Flowth through items. >> All right. Moving on to the flow through items. Uh we will
