Thank you. I'll now turn it over to Doctor Mauricio for the superintendent's report. Okay, great. Thank you all for, uh, having this, uh, meeting tonight. We have a unique opportunity to, um, uh, propose to you an exciting capital project that we're looking at. Um, eight years ago, I remember joining the, uh, Saturday program for Parks and Rec. Where with Ileana, we did a, uh, daddy and daughter swim class, and so, uh, I got to go into the, uh, room where they have the showers and where they have the, uh, lockers and all. And over the last eight years we've been doing that, um, on Saturdays. And now she's doing, uh, the Patriots swim, thanks to Austin Goldberg bringing back the Patriots team. And so we have Parks and Rec, the Patriots giving our kids these

opportunities. One of the things that I noticed is that, uh, we're usually the only people in the, uh, locker room. So we began talking, and Austin, uh, proposed an idea to use the locker room space on both the girls side and the, uh, uh, boy side. Um, to propose a different opportunity for our students that can be used during the day, but also, uh, after school, uh, for athletes and for the community, uh, as well as we, uh, see fit as a board so we can share proposal with you. And if you support it, um, we would be able to move forward on it. Uh, we have a break coming up next week. And, uh, Carmine said if we can, if you do agree and support it, we can actually move forward on that and

do it while kids are not in the building and get a head start. Part of that is also related. I'll have Austin speak about what's happening at the high school and, uh, why this, um, uh, is an option for us. If not, we do have a backup plan as well. Um, but with that, I'm going to turn it over to Austin, and then, uh, following Austin will be Carmine. All right. Great. Thank you. Good evening. Peekskill. Good evening, Board of Education. Thank you so much for allowing us to present tonight. Um, so, uh, like Doctor Mauricio said, um, we are proposing to utilize the current locker room spaces for a fitness center as well as a multi-purpose room, um, that includes, uh, wrestling, dance, small group instruction and, uh, you know, a plethora of other,

um, activities and games that our teachers and our staff could utilize. Um, this includes during school hours and after school hours as well. Um, this will utilize our current space that, um, has very limited, uh, use throughout the day and, um, during the after school programs. Uh, so, uh, a couple of the outcomes, um, that we're looking for is reducing the gymnasiums, which could be overcrowded at times throughout the year, uh, dedicated space for, um, our dance program and expanding our dance program, uh, improved training facilities for wrestling and other programs, expanding afterschool program and just enhancing the overall, um, wellness of our students. I know there, uh, um, there's all kinds of, um, statistics and information coming out on utilizing fitness and, uh, and weightlifting at earlier ages, I think when I was growing

up, they said, don't drink coffee and don't lift weights until you're in high school. And I think, um, uh, the times have changed and, uh, we do have, um, we do have, uh, current machines and, uh, and, uh, equipment that we're going to repurpose for this, um, with, with the approval, of course. Um, as you know, we're super excited about the high school capital project work that includes, um, a new fitness center at the high school as well. And, uh, because of the timing of that, we, uh, we're hoping that we have a new home for the summer workouts where our athletes, both in the middle school and the high school, will have an area to continue their their workouts and their fitness, um, at all sports and levels. All right. Austin, um, before you

hand it over, can you speak to, uh, what other districts have at the middle school level? Very often we want to know, make sure our kids have equitable opportunities. Um, can you speak to. Yeah. Um, in talking to colleagues, um, I don't know the exact percentage, but there's a, um, there's a lot of schools and school districts that have fitness centers at the middle school. Um, so we, uh, currently do not um, but there are there are plenty of section one schools that do have, uh, fitness centers at the middle school. Um, they, uh, they also have multi-purpose rooms to, uh, to expand their physic curriculum as well. Okay. Also, can you speak to during the day, uh, the usage in that, um, locker room area? Um, so, uh, currently we have a terrific aquatics

program, um, by, uh, designed by one of our teachers. Um. It's, uh, so that space is utilized minimally for changing. A lot of our students feel more comfortable changing in what we call the changing rooms. Um, so if you could picture, like, a department store type style where there's a curtain or there's a door, um, and they utilize changing spaces that way. So the actual locker room area, um, does not really get used. Um, for students that are changing for physical education, aquatics. I found that as a community member as well, um, that those rooms that are enclosed was the space where, uh, the very few times there were two people there. Uh, that's what we used. Mhm. Yeah. All right. So with that said I'm going to pass it to Carmen. Uh, before the

board members. Any questions for Austin before he gets into the layout? Um, any questions on the program? Uh, usage of the space that you might have on things that you can use a public space wondering. Because I noticed that the, uh, the cheerleading program doesn't have a dedicated space, and they're always going from school to school, right? Um, the nice. Well, we're left with that also in the, uh, there would be a space, um, that could include chair. And I just want to be careful because there are, um, for, for there to be stunting for cheerleading, you need to have, I believe, at least ten or, uh, I'm sorry, at least 15, uh, foot ceilings. So, um, they wouldn't be able to stomp there, but they could certainly utilize the space for practicing. Um, it's

more central location. Um, so they could practice their chairs. They could go, uh, into their stunt groups, but they would not be able to start. All right. Um, and I knew, uh, three rooms where the pool was, uh, not sure the height of the ceilings, but we can certainly talk afterwards whether that might be high enough. That would be a good space. Not sure that the, um. Yeah. You know, I don't know if it's high enough. So I'm just checking for the people to come for swimming or whatever. They still have a place to change. Yes, yes. He's going to show that. Yes, yes. Okay. Thanks for my question. Sure. Just so I learned, what type of dance do we offer or would we be offering? Just because floor can be a consideration. Uh, so

currently, uh, we are trying to expand our dance program. I know that there's a there's a teacher at Hillcrest that has a dance club, and Coach Johnson at the high school runs our dance team as well as our dance program. So there's, um, there's a lot of different dances that they do. They do a lot of cultural dances. I'm sure you've seen their performances both in person, um, at board meetings or at the high school. So, um, there isn't just one type of dance. Um, but we would utilize that space for the dances that can take place there. Thanks. Thank you. And Carmen will speak to the floor. When? When you. When you're ready. When you're ready. And one of the pictures does have a floor that we won't be using. It's optional. Um, so

you can be right. Great. Good evening everyone. Thank you for having me. Uh, this this will be quick. So this is a picture of the current bathroom and changing side. So basically what I'll show you on a footprint the next couple of slides. This will remain the way it is. The only thing we're going to do is cut a pathway here. And then what we're going to utilize is we're still going to have, uh, five changing spaces and two showers for everyone. Right now, of my understanding, after talking to the coaches a little bit too, is they usually send the kids down in small group anyway to change. They don't send them all down at once to get changed because as both Doctor and Austin said, uh, they prefer to use the stalls for changing.

Uh, this is the current locker room. We have a lot of lockers. I can tell you right now they're not really utilized. Um, and to be honest, um, for their current age, in a pool environment, they are rusting. They're starting to rust out the bottom. So we would, if we were to leave this as a locker room, need to replace them within the next few years. No matter what you do for a pool area treatment with air. We have a pool pack that, um, keeps the humidity at a certain level. No matter what you have chlorine, it's going to deteriorate, especially any metal products. So basically what's going to happen is everything here is coming out. These all sit on a pad. So that's all has to be ground down to bring the floor down.

So a lot of the work that we're talking about is just simply demo. Uh, that that's a lot that there's a lot of man hours in it. And that's one of the reasons we're trying to get a contractor here for next week, if possible. Because. And they could do the demo during the day, which does keep the price down. Avoiding doing it at night, it keeps it down a lot. So that's one of the reasons we're looking this way in the best. Okay, so excuse, uh, my little hand-drawn, uh uh uh uh uh um, rendering of this. So basically what it is now, this is the girls locker room side. Now, this is where you come down the ramp. So we'll have this space as a multi-purpose. This will all have padding all the way

around. We'll have mirrors on this wall for the dance, uh, for whatever programs need. Mirrors. Uh, the flooring here we do. We talked about a little bit. We still have a little bit of time for the option, because the type of floor that we're going to put there, they're, they're all within the same price range. So we just have to talk it through a little bit more. That's why I didn't get a chance to talk to you about that. But that's what we're going to discuss. Uh, we'll discuss that tomorrow. Um, if we're moving forward. Bathroom is basically staying the same. We're losing one sink in each room. That's where we're going to cut a pass through. So what we're going to do is fill the one door in in each location and put a

door in over here. So we didn't want the bathroom to be the door that opens right up into the space. So we're having the door on this side. So now you still have access from the pool directly to the changing area and to the bathroom, and they will be able to utilize the bathroom still throughout the day, um, under supervision. So this would be the girls bathroom side with the multi-purpose space. Um, we're going to end up with at least five changing stations. Still. Okay. Currently we only have four. That's okay. Um, so this is the fitness center side. Um, it's basically going to be the same setup. It's going to be a cut through. It's just flipped around because of the way it is. This is the pool in the center right here. So

this is same thing with the bathroom. This one had a little bit better of a drawing where it showed the current fixture locations. So there was a fourth sink here. We're just removing that sink doing a pass through. There was a changing station here. If I can fit an additional one right here to the side of the door to side of the opening, I'll do that. I just have to see, once we really take stuff down and get some tighter measurements after we fill in the block. So this is infill with the block, new door, um, new changing stations. And we are changing the showers also. We're going to do them. We're going to change them over to a timed shower. Um, we do have some a lot of incidents where the showers are left

on by the students, and they're just left running until someone notices. Any question on either of these questions? Is there an entrance outside of the pool area so they don't have to walk through the pool area? Yeah, there's up the ramp right here. So this this brings you right out to by the pool where the glass where you're looking in. So that's on both sides okay. And that's the the fitness center. Yeah. And then for the, like Parks and Rec program, can you show how they get into the changing rooms? I was just thinking, is it traffic through the pool area, like messing up the tile or whatever, but it sounds like no, no, it'll be the same access. Most of them cut most of our programs. Like doctor I'm said they come down the

stairs and they're coming in and out of the changing area from the inside. And that helps with, uh, to this McDonald's question, it helps with the safety, uh, so that you're not going to the fitness center through the pool. Right? Correct. Could be a challenge. Yeah. Because, um, this is just a real simple, uh, conceptual drawing that one of the contractors did for us. Um, so this is the this will be the, um, multi-purpose. So it's just padded room all the way around. One side will be a door. This will be actually padding. Now, uh, after we met with the second contractor. And then there will be the mirrors on this one side. This is the fitness center. Same concept. Um, we were not planning on doing padding on all the walls on the fitness

center side, but if we do find that we need to turn, um, any of the treadmills or anything, our insurance receptacle requires us to put padding on the wall. So once we finalize the layout, we'll make sure whether we need to do that or not. This is Austin's conceptual drawing, which looks really nice. Um, so we are changing all the ceiling tiles in the space. We're changing the floor. We're painting the walls. Um, in. And I'll go to that when we get to the scope of this. So we have the option. What we're talking about is either a rubberized floor or possibly an elbow. We'll have to talk a little bit more about that for the type of program that's in there. But the original conversations, we were leaning towards the rubber floors more because

that's more common for a wrestling or yoga or classes like that. So we just have to see what dance would need. You can go to the next. So that's why we said that. So this is like an LVP floor in here. So this is an option we can have. There will be a mirror on the one side. We are going to put our logos throughout, put it right on the pad and we'll get a couple of nice signs for the space. Easier to see it once we lay it out. And then we'll do that after the fact. Okay. So the scope of work is it's a lot. But to to bring it down. So with the demo it's the removal of all the lockers. It is the um, removal of all the curbs that are

for the locker, which is currently which is about a six inch curb on all of them. That's a large demo. Um, what we have to do is remove a one section of the wall so that we can adjoin the shower room, changing room with the bathroom so that they could enter only in one door from the space. Uh, so that's the demo that's going to take place. Plus they're going to remove every ceiling tile and replace them. The is in good shape, but we looked at that. So we'll just have them replace every one. So the infill of an existing CMU door install of a new metal door. Uh, we're going to do a poxy floors like we've been doing throughout our bathrooms. So the shower area and the bathroom will now have epoxy floors.

We will do an epoxy paint on any areas where there is currently tile, because what's going to happen when we're doing some of the plumbing is we're going to disturb the tile and we're not going to get an exact match. It's from 2007, so we'll just paint it with an epoxy paint, which works really well. Um, I will the shower for the epoxy have that, uh, very thick oatmeal like grit. Yeah. It'll be just like we've been doing in the kitchens. We might add a little bit more grit because it's a shower area. Um, actually, the kitchen area has been pretty good right now. The less grit, the better for cleaning, the more grit, better for, um, slippage. So we might look at it where we do the bathroom with more grit, and then maybe

do the with the bathrooms with a little less, and then the shower area with a little bit more. So that that's. Yeah, that's something I actually I was talking to the contractor about. So every, every area is going to be painted. Um, the epoxy floor is a clear coat. And then it has, uh, I forgot the exact name of it, but it's called an armor that goes over the top. The armor top. That's pretty simple. Uh, so that that goes over the top. That's basically what gives you your ten year warranty on your epoxy floors. Um, and that's basically what we're doing down there. There's a lot to do in a quick period. So basically we're looking at getting demo and everything we can if possible, done next week. And then they'll be able to

do all of the finishes over like a two week period. So that would be the goal. Uh, this is Piratey. So they're on a contract. This is actually the GC that is the lowest bidder for us currently. Um, they've done work for us before off of bids. They're a very good contractor to us. They take care of us. And, uh, I would highly recommend them. It is nice that they're on a cooperative bid. It makes, uh, a lot of things a lot easier. I put for weeks. What moments can you share? Uh, the cooperative bid, uh, cooperative bid is basically state bosses. Um, they're that's the main ones. And then there's a lot of there's source. Well, those are basically where a lot of those are national or come through the federal government where there

are cooperative bid, where they basically put out a large bid package, just like we do for specific items that typically cover time and material, and they give them a max markup on materials. So that's the type of bid that will be utilizing for for this. We've actually used some of these bids some times for our smaller 500 K projects. A lot of our flooring projects we use similar bids for and they are approved by nice Wood. So you spoke about the, um, the lockers, um, you know, rusting and so forth. Is there anything that anyone's doing that we can do to replace those? Or maybe they last longer or like, is there anything that we've I mean, it's tough because are chlorine down there. We have stainless steel doors down there that are rusting. So

I'll be honest. It's it's just it's just tough to maintain in a pool atmosphere. I think to that same and my question would be about the athletic equipment. If we're going to have workout equipment, what would a pool environment do to work out equipment, how quickly we have to replace things? It's a good question. I, I will say this. One of the things that we do have in our capital reserve is the replacement in the future, which is coming quicker than expected of the current pool pack that is there. So it could have something to do with that current system that's there. Also, HVA CE equipment is typically a 15 year lifespan, so that means everything in this building is coming to the it's already at the end of its useful life. But. With our

maintenance, we've been able to, you know, extend it. But the pool pack is coming to its use and of its useful life. And that current system is no longer supported. It pool pack has been sold off 2 to 3 times in the last five years. So again, we're just lucky to have somebody like Ed, our Hvac mechanic, who's been able to keep that unit running because that unit is no longer supported. So we've been maintaining it ourselves. But that is in the the capital reserve to be replaced at some time. So we will I'll have the next meeting where we can talk about that and what we need to do there. But I guess we got to be strategic about yeah, equipment we're putting in there. And we might want to look at the door

close with the with the secondary door. It'll help. It'll help a bit. And we could possibly look at putting in an additional dehumidification system too, so that that's something that isn't that expensive that we could always do there too. And since we have access outside, we can run a drain and put a unit that we don't have to worry about dumping. So that's something that we could do pretty easily too. But to clarify your question, we are actually getting rid of lockers due to lack of use in the lockers. Yeah, they're not used in they're also degrading there. I was just using a yeah they're degrading. We're not replacing them. Right. You don't need any. There's no need for lockers there. And the kids, uh, we find it that they don't use lockers. They just

pile their stuff up. Yeah. I just we definitely need to be mindful, because I know we've talked about the rust and the degrading being in the pool area pretty much the entire time I've been on the board. One of the things that we might want to do when we talked about this a few years ago, we we might want to revisit it is a lot of work through the Department of Health, but we want to look at different types of disinfectants and eliminating chlorine. There's a lot of other options out there now that we may want to look at. That may help the limit the corrosion. Also, uh, this building was a this pool was initially designed for an infrared, and they didn't install an infrared. They installed a chlorine system. Uh, so the salt

would it makes us so salt. Salt is a little bit less corrosion, but not not as much as you would think. It's it's still similar that the newer system, like an infrared, is probably something we'd want to look at. Um, we have we do have to start looking at doing some work to the pool area. It's it's time. I'll come on. Just a quick question. The project total is that inclusive of the equipment as well. Like the gym equipment. The know a lot of it. That's it. Yeah. Because, uh, board member, uh, we are changing the, uh, building a new facility at the high school. So they're going to get all new equipment, and then we're going to repurpose this equipment. Yeah. That's good. Which recycles it because it's hard to get anyone to take

that. Right. So it works out first. Yeah. That, uh, if anybody ever wants look on air beds, if you ever want new equipment, every school selling their stuff every few years and you can buy a new treadmill for, uh, use treadmill for like, five bucks, you say. Yeah. Aha. Uh, it's a garbage. Oh, it's who we use also. So David is asking for an email. No, I'm not. So that's who we use. That's who. All schools and municipalities in the area use to auction off equipment. So okay. Any other questions? No. Thank you very much. Any other, uh, I just have a question. Yeah, just a quick question, Carmine. If you know, that's maybe for doctor here in terms of the project total, because the city Parks and Rec uses a space. Are they funding

any of this or is this just on the district? Uh great question. Um, so the, um, the city can't fund our projects, nor can we fund their projects. However, we have a shared service, uh, agreement that, um, they provide certain funding for us and then we provide use of space for them. And so, uh, we share a lot of the services that we save, cause. Thank you. Thank you, thank you. Any other thoughts before we go to the agenda? And, uh, another item, um, since you comment, you would like to speak on the other I. Oh, uh, for the, uh, capital project, 32 million for phase two. B as you know, we rejected the bid from the, uh, plumber. We only had one plumber and did not have very good references. Um, he did not

rebid. They did not rebid. So we received two bids when we. Uh, so we have a recommendation that came from both our architect and construction manager for Arrow Plumbing. So we just want to get your approval to move forward with that. We are in a good spot now. Uh, they have very good references. They have worked with our in the past, so we're very comfortable with pulling them in as part of the team to get this project done. Okay. And they came with actually 80,000 under our estimated budget. So that worked out really well for us. And thanks for all of your work and planning. Yes. Yes. Thank you guys. Anything else? All right. So moving on. We have our consent agenda. Does anyone have any comments? Questions? Thoughts? No. So can I please have

a motion to approve a consent agenda? Items to a and to be so moved. Moved by Allen. Second. Second by Angel. All in favor? Aye. Any nays? Any abstentions. If there are no further actions, can I please have a motion to adjourn the meeting? So moved by Frank. Second by Allen. All in favor? Aye. Any nays? Any abstentions. Good evening. Peekskill. Thank you all.
