a variety of tokens of appreciation from midlake students and staff branded with the the block m some treats and a case for your um for your ipads but also and most importantly some thank you notes from our students we have thank you notes that were done by our elementary art classes as well as our eagle time groups some groups and some individuals from eagle time at the 7 12 level as appreciation for your support of a program that's really off to a great start um and before i say anymore i want to kick it over to todd to show a video that he put together that i think really encompasses the most important work of this of the board which is to make sure our students have an outstanding experience here at school and we

have a video that shows one of the highlights to the start of the year it's good to be with everybody again everyone's happy just like seeing everybody again the pep rally was great i saw a lot more people participate than i anticipated would it's just crazy seeing like that many people in one place again after like such a long time of seeing no one around i had no voice by the end of it there was a lot of screaming i think our seniors are both the male and female senior got are the only ones that made the shot sounded like they're gonna apply the principal face it was great to have everybody back in the same gym again it was loud exciting i don't know small town usa type vibes you know it's a pretty

tight community it's always a good time gotta wrap the brand yeah for sure it was like my first kind of homecoming and i haven't actually experienced the parade and stuff it's been kind of exciting just seeing everyone after like such a long time it's pretty cool because you get to be like with your friends and you get to just come together and unite with like your class that you're going to be graduating with the decades day was probably the coolest day we were the 50s and everybody went all out with their leather jackets and their white shirts and their tight jeans and then the high schoolers were pretty cool they had like a bunch of tie dyes it's just where everyone can come together and it's really fun because you get to see like all

the variety of people in the school when they dress up for like black and blue day today everybody was dressed up everybody was glad to be back doing spirit week it's just more fun to like do stuff with a whole bunch of people i'm doing it because like for the festivities school spirit i think it's important to come together like this because even if you might not know the person you guys can have a really good bond and it's always fun to bond with new people here we go boys let's go let's go we've all been dying for something that will bring us back together and i think that this spirit week was a really nice way to do that to bring everybody back together seeing you know everyone dressed up the atmosphere was there

the pepper ali was fun nice to see everyone excited about some school sports having some school spirit going on you know stuff like that it's a good time first homecoming game in two years just super stoked i think it was probably like one of the best turnouts for spirit week we've had since i've been in high school it's nice to finally be back in the class and have actually interacting with people i just think it's a good event to get the community back together after everything that's happened it's just really nice to see everyone back back here celebrating a good time you know ready for ready for some good old american football a lot of people enjoyed themselves and i'm glad that we got to do that [Applause] mark scoville [Applause] thank you todd um

so it has been i don't need to tell anybody a very long year and a half or so filled with a lot of difficult decisions by the board and and sometimes being a board member is a thankless job uh one that people often forget comes with no pay it is about a form of volunteerism a very important form and i thought you'd appreciate seeing what it's all about the work that you've done to get students back and let them have these experiences i do want to call attention to the fact however it was kind of glossed over in the video that you know the tradition of that half court shot is that any student who makes it gets to pie the high school the middle high school principal in the face oddly twice because two

two kids um sank the half court shot but mysteriously the pie in the face has not occurred yet i'm not quite certain why tomorrow how about tonight i knew i could make i know i could make them work so anyway thank you to the board on behalf of the administrative team the staff and most importantly our students thank you for the the many nights that i make you come out as i continue to add special board meetings for various reasons but we do really appreciate your support and the outcomes that your support creates for our students thanks man appreciate the sentiment todd thank you that was awesome um well well put together as always and it's great to see all the students having fun in both school spirit so it's most appreciated okay so we'll

move on to our next presentation sure uh strategic plan update michelle robinette matthew sickles okay so back on september 20th we had a representative group of the strategic planning council which gave you a pretty in-depth overview of the strategic plan and at that point we were then anticipating working with the warner school team again to develop the year one management plans that has occurred and as a result of that work is they met with the different administrators who will serve as facilitators of the different initiatives we sort of uncovered some overlaps and areas of duplication in the um in the plan and it has gone through some updates the substance of it has not changed but we did want to just quickly give you an overview of the updates prior to board approval and you

know so that we can move forward with its implementation so most importantly the four focus or goal areas have remained unchanged academic excellence middle lakes community strong and empowered staff and student life you can certainly read the qualifying statements under each one but the focus of the plan has not changed and those four very important areas will continue to guide our work throughout the life of the plan which is at least five years if it's not adapted and extended after that michelle so on the updates and coordinated initiatives what we've tried to do is sequence things in a logical progression removed a lot of duplication one of the pieces that you'll notice in the final plan is mtss another is the diversity equity and inclusion another piece on students with disabilities that have been moved

around to fit in where they logically made more sense and to remove that duplication we'll continue to update the plan as matt said as adjustments are needed in terms of the management plans this is our kind of supports and and implementation for year one so it's getting into more of the details and some of the pieces that maybe were part of the original strategic plan have now been moved to the management plan because they were more detailed action steps they include now facilitators due dates and because communication is a big piece of of what we know we want to expand and get better at we've included a section on others involved so that it's not just one person working on one thing on a checklist but we're working as a team we're working with stakeholders

we're involving more people and we know that that'll make it a better plan in the end okay in terms of accountability you know the most important thing is to make sure that this work is completed um since it represents our goals and intended outcomes for our students so there's a clear identification of action steps and tasks related to each of the initiatives the facilitators due dates and others involved as michelle mentioned a really important piece of this and credit to both principles that both the elementary school and middle high school have building improvement teams already in place those teams will evolve and take on a more important and lead role in helping to guide the work around the strategic plan in each building but there will be other committees and individuals involved as well there

will be scheduled reports as outlined in both the plan and the management plan scheduled reports to myself and that may be individually or it might be through cabinet meetings for feedback um and then there will be presentations to the board of education at key checkpoints relative to the individual initiatives and then to continue the process because the management plan which will be shared with you once it's finalized is only only covers the year one initiatives so then by the end of this school year we'll be working on the year two management plan which will carry the work of each of those four goal areas forward so next steps again we have the year one management plan is just getting the finishing touches applied much of the steps that are identified in the year one plan

have already been accomplished and others are soon to be accomplished there will be year two through five management plans as appropriate again the facilitators will not do all the work around the initiatives they're responsible for but they'll engage other appropriate individuals and committees the whole plan as we've mentioned is a living document and the process will be fluid because circumstances change new data becomes available as we make progress in certain areas we may raise the bar on terms in terms of what we're trying to accomplish so it is certainly subject to change and again there will be periodic updates as we keep the board informed on our progress questions matt you say the management plans year one management plan is being finalized by the team yes when will the board see that um probably um

within two weeks i mean we're just doing finishing touches michelle and i have taken the feedback from the team are have filled it in we just need to loop back with them to get their feedback on our changes and then it'll be ready to be sent off to you but it's um doesn't require its own approval it's just the action plan yeah for the strategic plan itself but it'll be shared with you right i know i'm at least curious to see it so i just i was just hoping it was going to get shared with the board yes absolutely yes and along those lines in the um the periodic updates it says that facilitators will report to super superintendent on an established schedule is that schedule going to be delineated that's already in the management

plan that is okay that's part of the management plan yeah i'm sorry that's in the strategic plan already okay and then there's due dates identified the consistent due dates identified the management plan as well see the column report the superintendent yeah report to superintendent which i'll report to the superintendent all right so decisions about presentations to the board that will be made along the way that's really what i was asking yeah there's no set timeline on that that will be made by the facilitators and groups working on those initiatives when they feel it's appropriate to either get feedback or to report completion right but at least the board would know that if they're curious about an item they would know when you were expecting a report to have yes so we could inquire about yes

and then and that we could probably expect sometimes you know within either before or after that that or the board could share key key stuff from those right so different initiatives will reach different levels of completion in the first year like summer one-year initiatives and will be completed others are just in the investigative stage during year one so those would be less likely to have an outcome to be reported than something that was fully implemented right thank you i got another question it's a little in the weeds i don't know if it's really i feel bad that i haven't mentioned any before but i know in other strategic plans i've been part of they've created key key progress indicators or kpi type measurements um which are like data dashboard type things that that you can

use to monitor parts of the strategic plan and and i that ours did not take that approach well actually creating data protocols and improving our use of data is one of the one of the initiatives that's what i figured i was just not putting my finger on that right away um but good that makes sense thank you any of the questions earth for matt and michelle on the update and further in our agenda the board will be adopting or approving the the strategic plan is written um which just means that we think what just means that we endorse it and and and um are happy with it as is um so any questions in that vein cool thank you for that all right and our third presentation is multi-tiered systems of supports uh support update

michelle robinette if you're watching at home we're having our computer projection system is being played with there we go all right cool so one of the first items on our strategic plan is um to out to roll out our multi-tiered system of support plan and this has been a long time in the making um prior to covid i had helped create a systems of support committee and we had been working through laying the foundation for this plan and it felt great on our opening conference day to actually roll out many pieces of this plan to our staff so some of the first few slides i'm going to walk you through what we kind of hit on with our staff on on the september opening conference day one of the first pieces was to just remind

staff of what is a multi-tiered system of support and i like this particular graphic that was not created by us but because it talks about it being a prevention system as well so focusing on tier one helps to prevent many of the later interventions that might be needed and one of the other pieces we liked with this particular graphic was showing that our students who may have a label whether that's a student with a disability a student who's an english language learner a student who's in accelerated classes that does not preclude them from being in any of the tiers because you all are human and we are all human and our students are all human so we may need extra support in math and be perfectly on par with reading or we may be someone

who needs extra supports in terms of counseling or other social emotional needs but we don't need them for math and vice versa so what we did for the opening conference day with our staff is we took a look at the pyramid and we kind of just changed up the color and we said we're going to focus on tier one to start off this new school year with having all students here five days a week everyone was extremely excited and we said what we need to do is lay that foundation and we took tier one and we broke tier one up into three particular areas we wanted our staff to hit on as they started off the new school year the first being quality relationships and katie pack one of our social workers walk staff through

a whole piece on quality relationships what we have in place and what we can do to lay that foundation the second piece at tier one pete circus our dean of students in the elementary led the staff through talking about our school-wide expectations and general classroom management strategies and then i topped off the presentation with quality instruction emphasizing that while there are key pieces to quality instruction the other two pieces need to be there in order for that quality instruction to have its biggest impact in terms of the pieces i'll just kind of quickly share with you some of what the teachers saw quality relationships katie talked through all the different pieces that we have in place everything from eagle time at the secondary building this year to our character strong sel curriculum with our two

counselors at the elementary now being delivered during an sel block to win time which is what i need time where we use that as a flexible time for kids to get interventions in reading math related services such as speech ot or pt and many other pieces here where we all know quality relationships can exist inside and outside the classroom the other piece of our mtss plan that that deals with that social emotional side at tier one is the state had issued some social emotional learning benchmarks a few years ago and during this year and a half of covid we've benchmarked those into an actual scope and sequence and we've also aligned them to monthly themes so the actual appendix e to the plan delineates all that over multiple pages this slide just represents those monthly

themes that we were rolling out to the staff this year in terms of the school-wide expectations our appendix d has this piece that we made sure to roll out with our staff where there's still a column there related to what we expect of students at school but also what we expect to them on zoom meetings well while we're trying to stay away from zoom it's almost like a bad word we do know that it does have its place and when we have students on quarantine or whole classrooms have to be remote for a day like we experienced unfortunately here a couple of weeks ago we do have to have prepared kids for that and what does it mean what are you expecting how will you communicate with them all of those pieces and then at

the elementary level also talking about just our regular communication through seesaw and on the secondary version that would say schoology we did an activity with staff that pete led regarding best practices in terms of classroom management and being proactive in setting up your classroom the six pieces come from research from the midwest pbis group so those just kind of give you that list of of all the areas the teachers discussed and then i shared with staff um the two appendices related to tier one instruction the first being a direct instruction checklist which is just some of the research based best practices in in lesson planning um and then the other appendix is what we call our if then tool kit so it may say for a student who's struggling in reading if their difficulty is

in phonics then try this if their difficulty in math is with addition and subtraction then try this and it's kind of that first line of intervention in the classroom level we then just kind of brought everyone back together to remind them of these are our three things that we're really focusing as we start our new school year and then we talked about the fact that we've been working with wayne finger lakes boces to create a data dashboard for the district while the data dashboard will play place a huge play a huge piece in our mtss plan in our mtss work you will notice that it also has pieces related to demographics and enrollment attendance behavior separately that could be part of a greater use for for the administrative team in the district as a whole

our plan for the upcoming october conference day would be to have another session related to mtss where we can dig deeper share more with the power bi dashboard and we also have staff meetings grade level and data meetings today was actually our second and third grade data meetings so it was very exciting to be looking at data well some of the data may not be where we want it to be we also had some things from the data that we took away as as celebrations and we're looking forward to moving the needle the last piece that's uh appendix to our plan are what we're calling data flow charts there is a data flow chart for k-6 social emotional needs there's one as you can see here for 7-12 and then every grade level has their

own flowchart for reading and math k through eight they're very similar and these like most of the appendices i feel like will need to be updated on a regular basis as our needs change or as we try things in and find that something else may be better for our students what i'm displaying here is your first look at data and where we're at so this fall we gave the social emotional screener from fastbridge to all students k through 12. and using the pyramid as the visual what this is saying is 74.6 percent of our students kindergarten through 12 are at the tier 1 level of not necessarily needing additional supports beyond our character strong and our eagle time 20.8 percent of students are at that tier two level maybe needing a small group of intervention

and four point six percent of our students are at the tier three level where they may need individual counseling and fba functional behavioral assessment and behavior plan so these are the pieces to the puzzle that we're pulling and putting together with the data for reading and math we have assessments across k through eight and we can see that this data is a little more troublesome in that we're at about fifty percent in both at tier one thirty percent for reading at tier 2 38.6 for math and then 20 for reading and 12.6 for math at the tier 3 level this is part of what we've been working through with these data meetings seventh and eighth grade already had their first data meetings as i said today was second and third grade and we're continuing throughout

this week but we're really digging into this data and talking through with the teachers how we might get creative and do some things differently to deliver some of what would normally be an intervention at the tier two or tier three level at tier one especially for those classrooms where the data is showing the greater need so i've just summarized here and i think it's on your printout as to what are some of those pieces to the puzzle that we've been putting together some things we've been piloting things that we piloted and now we've officially started training teachers in but we'll continue to add to and update as we see the need and i'm just very um hopeful and positive that by the time mid-year data is pulled together we're going to see a huge improvement

in our our triangles and they're going to be closer to where we would expect them to be and getting the kids back has just been the number one thing and really made it um a good thing just everyone's feeling that despite the fact that we're all a little tired and a little stressed so other than that i just wanted to give you an opportunity if you had questions how were the kids assessed and placed into these groups how were they assessed i couldn't hear the rest how were they assessed and then placed into their grouping so we have from fastbridge a social emotional screener the students take um where they answer about 20 questions related to anything from like i i can pay attention in class to i get angry and they choose often sometimes

never those types of pieces at kindergarten in first the teachers do an assessment of their social emotional pieces in terms of what they see in the classroom because the students may not have that ability to recognize that about themselves for reading and math we're actually trying to use multiple data points so we have everything from reading assessments that are given one-on-one with students to assessments that the students take on the computer and then we compile those with those flowcharts so the flowchart you'll see may list the different assessments that are pulled together so lindsay just to clarify are you asking if the students are being tracked and grouped according to those metrics yeah right so like they they can based on their score then you put them into the percentage of which they fall right

what in terms of tracking their performance but they're not necessarily being separated out we're using wind time to provide the tier 2 and tier 3 supports and in reading there's reading workshop time as part of the core so students will all receive this green level which is your tier one across the the social emotional reading or math every student gets those pieces and then the yellow area for tier two and the red for tier three are added on either during that win time or like i said during reading workshop is another time other questions what's the initial feedback on the eagle time so far it's been great from what i'm hearing uh the pto was a bit surprised to find out that they needed 290 pumpkins for just the middle school high school because they

offered it up for them to participate in the pumpkin decorating contest which has typically been reserved for the elementary kids but i think the kids are excited to have that time to just bond and do various activities i know my two at home that are 10th graders have enjoyed it so this is a lot of stuff here um you know i'm still thinking about it all but i do appreciate i mean my earlier question about um kp or data driven or performance indicators type stuff um you know i i do like seeing or i see us moving towards um collecting that and using data to keep our eyes on our students which which i think in our performance with our students so i mean so i applaud everything you're doing here um and everybody is

doing here i don't have any specific questions though but thank you anybody else have you have anything to add here thank you michelle thank you michelle thank you cool all right all good stuff there so presentation so moving into reports poor county school boards association um i don't have anything additional to report i hope anybody else does seeing those uh with the superintendent's report so matt okay i'm going to start just by giving an update on the kobe testing program in collaboration with ontario county i do want to preface by saying that this is continues to be a work in progress and it's no exaggeration to say that i learn new information every day as the county mobilizes its efforts gets its staffing and supplies together and then works with the different school districts to

start testing just as a reminder there are three different levels or types of testing that will occur one is diagnostic testing they're all pcr tests in different forms the diagnostic testing is a shallow nasal swab that will be administered to students and staff who are symptomatic or exposed at school the nurses were our nurses were just trained today in our abbott machines for reading the results in 15 to 20 minutes were delivered this afternoon we're hoping that testing the diagnostic testing if needed will begin later this week pending final logistics parents will be able to provide consent using an online form so for example if a student reports the nurse's office with symptoms and the parent can't get there right away if it wants the testing started they can go right online it's going to

be using the our school school today app that we use for the health screeners last year but there will be a link on the website and they'll be able to go in and give consent results will be reported to ontario county department of health for their database again they'll be available in 15 to 20 minutes this is brand new information today as of friday we were told that there was no testing out of a quarantine information we received in the form of a memo today from ontario county said and it it's very specific situations but students who are symptomatic will be sent home pending consultation with a medical provider and resolution of symptoms so if you're symptomatic you're going home even if the test is negative but students who've been exposed at school and that's

the key exposed at school but are non-symptomatic may remain in school and participate in extracurricular activities monday through friday only by being tested daily at school for seven days these students still must follow a strict masking protocol and they may still be subject to quarantine outside of school but the goal is to keep them in school and participating in activities as long as they continue to be non-symptomatic and test negative for those seven days so if on day seven a child is still without symptoms and remains negative by those pcr tests given every day then they need no further testing and they resume usual activities so that's if they're exposed but not symptomatic as soon as they become symptomatic then the existing protocols kick in that's what we learned today i expect to learn something

new tomorrow because that's pretty much been the trend before i move on to the screening or surveillance testing that's new information are there any questions and i'll do my best with the information i have man i know i know there's an incredible amount of pieces here but one thing you told us is that they were not planning on testing at our site every day of the week that's still unclear so one of the things i keep going back and forth with on the county is how often their nurse contracted through an agency will be here but our nurses will the the pool testing or the surveillance testing which i'll talk about in a minute will be administered by that agency nurse but the diagnostic testing our nurses are trained will be trained in that and

are trained as of this afternoon so even if the county nurse isn't here the machines are on campus and our nurses will be able to perform those tests so for the students that are staying in school our nurses can do the testing yes we we will not test on the weekends however right so if the seventh day falls on a weekend they'll need to test negative on monday okay thank you all right any other questions on the diagnostic testing okay um the next piece you know screening or surveillance testing of staff which is required and students which is optional so our first goal after the diagnostic testing is to get that required staff testing going again staff can opt out of the required weekly testing by showing proof of vaccination otherwise they will be tested

weekly that's through a cheek swab and we'll have results in 24 to 48 hours from the time that the samples are shipped to the lab that's still being ironed out we're still waiting confirmation of our assigned nurse and receipt of the supplies so while there are some schools who have started there's like maybe three or four schools in the county who have started their diagnostic testing and we expect to within a few days there are none that i'm aware of that have started the surveillance testing because that's a little bit larger mobilization and we're getting those agency nurses trained and assigned to schools um once we're hoping that the first round of staff testing will happen during the week of the 25th we had originally hoped for this week that's not going to happen we're

hoping for next week we want to get through a round of that and also confirm a whole bunch of details before we communicate out to parents start having them register their kids if they're interested in the optional testing because the last thing i want to do is put out information and then the next day have to correct it creating confusion so more likely than that it'll be the at least the week of november 1st that we start the surveillance testing of students again that's the shallow cheek swab depending upon the level of staffing how many days a week is the nurse going to be here and how many students do we have whose parents give consent for that testing that will determine how often the students are tested if it's a number that's manageable and

we can test every kid who signed up every week we will or we might batch them randomly test 20 every week again it's surveillance testing that's designed to sort of just identify clusters and and be proactive it's a little bit different goal than the diagnostic testing so i know there are a lot of people interested in this getting questions but we're just working through the process there are a lot of moving parts ontario county has never done this before school districts have never done it before so we're just working together on all the details i want to make sure that we we have everything you know confirmed before we roll it out other questions i'm testing no so the only thing i was thinking about so say the pool comes back positive yes the pool

of how many staff 12 12. so do all 12 of those staff members have to go home and now quarantine so what happens is they immediately if that pool tests positive at the lab they hold on to the original samples they then go back and perform a second test on those 12 individual samples so by the time the results get reported to us they've identified the specific individual who's positive so there will be no need to take a second sample okay other questions can you go back to the diagnostic piece so you could mention the exposure at school if they're non-symptomatic they would test negative for seven days but you also mentioned they still could be subject to a quarantine right so the goal is to keep them in school so they may still have

to quarantine at home that's what the memo says but they would be allowed to participate in school activities all school activities monday through friday if they continue to test positive this is brand new infra or negative rather this is brand new information that we received this morning but it it did come from the county and that it's not that's not guaranteed but they may still be subject to staying home when they're not at school and that and that's an option i mean that's if they're exposed and non-symptomatic the parent can decline the testing but then they're going they're going to be quarantined if they're not vaccinated good on testing all right you always look back to me um snow days so you remember last year the state allowed for a snow day pilot um middle

lakes did not participate they are offering it again this year um it's for weather related emergencies and non-weather related emergencies which is key and i'll come back to that in a second the pilot allows schools to switch to remote learning when they would otherwise close for either type of emergency when a school district switches to remote learning it must continue to transport students to charter and non-public schools if they remain open regardless of the type of emergency even if it's two feet of snow here and we close and swear and switch to remote because we're switching to remote we're technically open and if schools that we transport to in rochester are still open we'd still have to transport those students obviously that's problematic on days of inclement weather less so if you close for a

non-weather related emergency mid lakes is committed as we were last year to the social emotional and cultural benefits of traditional snow days for inclement weather so we will not switch to remote learning for weather related closures however we already have this year and will use the pilot as needed for non-weather related emergencies because and we did when we were short staff on the day of aaron mangan memorial service or there could be other non-weather related emergencies on those days it's not an issue transporting students out of district and they're different than your traditional snow days um just one thing to point out um for our 11th and 12th grade students who attend half day cte programs at fltcc they'll not be transported on those days as we do not have the capacity since we're not

transporting students on those days we don't have the capacity to go to their homes pick them up from their homes bring them to fltcc and return them home because normally they're transported from school so we just don't have the driver capacity to do that especially on short notice so on those days fltcc will provide remote learning opportunities for those students just as we're providing remote learning so and frank's working on smoothing out those procedures with the career and technical center i've been asked to tell you about a project through flash p our health care consortium in this area which sponsors you know it it's all the dis school districts from the greater finger lakes area pull the resources to purchase health insurance at a cheaper cost than community rates and flash p invests in the

health and wellness of its members because it's in their best interest to do so we have a mid-lakes wellness committee and wellness coordinators brittany sullivan and kyle sanders who lead our initiatives here at mid lakes as well as other midlake specific wellness activities this year flash p is rolling out what's called the lift project and they've identified it will be approved tonight sarah thine as the mid lakes coordinator of this specific project so on october 25th the wellness committee in schools throughout the flash p consortium will launch the lift project it's a seven week program focused on helping people live their best lives by focusing on emotions movement social interaction positivity nutrition reducing stress and contributing to the community the project includes access to weekly videos and challenges and unlike previous flash p initiatives this

project is available not just do middle lake staff but also students and community members and flash p's covering the cost that would normally be associated with participation so information will be shared with the community through the district's social media platforms and we encourage everyone to participate and just a reminder that october 27th there's no school for students as we'll have a superintendent's conference day michelle mentioned it a little bit some of the highlights will be a presentation of the strategic plan to the midlake staff a focus on staff wellness social emotional supports for both students and staff mtss as michelle mentioned supporting struggling students that's all in the morning and then in the afternoon there will be grade level department and job specific trainings so another important opportunity to support our staff with the tools

they need to serve our students that's my report and i'll entertain any additional questions man on snow days um so we were we did switch to remote learning for half our district last week right did we use half a snow day for that no so by switching to remote that's the pilot piece is in the past before remote learning was a thing before it existed then that would have counted as a snow day at the middle high school level and they would have had less one one less instructional day than the elementary but because remote instruction was offered it counts as a day of instruction i see so it does not count as a snow correct so now every time we close for any reason and this is just new and well since last year

i have to go into the state portal document that closure the reason for it there's a drop down menu of acceptable reasons have to provide information about that reason and how remote instruction is being offered and then on the day that we reopen i have to go back in fill out another report that talks about how and why we reopened thank you for the questions none we'll move i think you might move into public comment the board of education values the input of the mid-lakes community and welcomes public comment on any topic related to board work with the exception of matters pertaining to individual personnel and or students all public comments must include appropriate language and observe proper decorum anyone making public comment must identify themselves by name and address public comment period will be

limited to a total of 30 minutes and one comment per person individual comments will be limited to two minutes the board does not respond to items presented or questions raised through public comment however the board may discuss topics of public comment at a later time and or contact individual who submitted the comment is anyone here for public comment seeing none uh just remind you if you are observing the this meeting it um through the internet uh are what are the board's emails addresses are available on the board website and you can also submit comments to the board that way all right so moving on public comment into board discussion for county sba state positions and paper position survey so two meetings ago i mentioned this and then last meeting it was it was passed it

out and suggested that we provide feedback to me with your thoughts on how the board should respond to the for county uh committee and so i handed out the beginning of the meeting the responses i got to these um any discussion on on what we have all right we're hearing none i'll move forward with what i got and if you have any thoughts on it um next couple days please get in touch with me good next item for board discussion is the goals for and i have to admit i do not have my goals in front of me which i apologize for so i forget what our first goal is put my intention tonight i don't have them in front of me either um go ahead your intention clearly was to talk about the first

one but i don't know what it is okay so um one of our goals is about our border handbook okay i don't know if it is anybody i'm attending the training tomorrow has anybody else signed up for the training tomorrow and handbook so i'm hoping to get some good comprehensive i i'm hoping that the handbook that we have almost finalized is on par with what everyone's recommending and the samples so um i'll have something to report on at the next meeting about that well that's cool yeah no thank you tracy um i cannot attend that so but i do appreciate that you're doing it um because i love handbooks jake i think our first goal had to do with the student participation student engagement student participation engagement right let's talk about that next week so

that so that i have in front of me you can better leave the discussion on that does that sound alright anything else on board goals we want to bring up tonight all right now the next thing is a board discussion on committee assignments so the reason why we're bringing why we decided to bring this back is uh with sherry leaving the board a couple months ago um she was present at the meeting uh where we created our board our board committees um and then resigned after shortly after the meeting uh and so you know she she agreed to sit on one place on her committees um but now that we have appointed uh lindsay to take her seat uh through discussion tracy we decided that would be best we should bring back the um the

committees and see if we can slot lindsay into some places to give uh some experience with our various subcommittees here and just just to tie back to our previous conversation if we you know one goal of a board handbook lindsey would be to outline what all these committees do um so that so that you would know more and we all would know more about what we can expect when we sign up for one of these committees so we'll do the best we can here um with that i mean it's this is not how we normally deal with committee assignments and so a little awkward you know who you know if there's anybody lindsey's or anything you want or is there is there anybody want to help me move things around a little bit oh and

the other thing to point out um is that with our new business administrative position and get the other title director of operations director of operations uh they have been put into their committees um that they they naturally sit on and so when we approve the new committees um that that change has been made also um generally they are um yes the um academic leave committee meets as needed with uh people with members of the the teaching staff and and others or members of the staff audit safety facilities are our separate meetings just to clarify the district school safety committee is that is to help guide the creation of the annual district safety plan as opposed to health and safety committee which is focused on more day-to-day operational health and safety issues [Applause] do you have

any other questions as to what any of them entail well i would probably choose behind the health and safety yeah because that's what you know about did you want her to okay yours no that's fine that's fine you can you know because actually i was gonna as a new board member i know when i first came on the audit committee was a good a good amazing because he did a kind of a deep dive right and the audit committee didn't meet before the last meeting but we we have another audit in the spring right now yeah the internal turnover is in the spring and so there is still work for that to do um so lindsay so don i'll take we'll take don off of health and safety and put lindsay on that um you

want to do an audit committee lindsay sure where do you want to do policies or do i want to do what nothing i wouldn't mind getting off the policy committee for that sorry um so uh matt orion or me do you want to make a spot for lindsey on on the audit committee which i'm fine to step off but if you want to ryan that's fine too yeah i've done it you've got i know yeah all right i'm going to take ryan off of auto committee i'm going to put lindsey on on there and that i mean that's probably enough um but if anybody else has got ideas sure we need an alternate for the four county board of directors pick is that the saturday morning no that's the monday or tuesday nights those are

tough too yeah um they do meet fighting what would you say that their schedules you said monday or tuesday nights i think so yeah oh frequently i'm one fleeish maybe not i forget i went to the first one and i think i missed the second one because i was because it was a tuesday night i can't do two things i have the agenda i just i have their agenda i just don't have it with me i got it you can put me aside all right so ryan agreed to fill the seat that sherry done all right so just to review audit committee i'm i moved ryan out and moved lindsay in for county board of directors ryan filled that spot and health and safety committee i moved on out and i put lindsay on that

so it makes this sound all right to you and so we'll approve these at the next meeting correct i believe so right that was the plan matt was to approve the plan was to prove these changes at the next meeting correct wait until after carl and that began all right they haven't started their jobs yet they haven't started put them on committees yet rather than approving the list twice yep cool all right that's good thank you everyone on that does anyone have any additional topics they want to discuss amongst the board this time i do not all right moving into new business we'll do letter a by itself approving the strategic plan um any discussion on improving the strategic plan i'll just note you know it's approving it you know seems a little anti-climatic with

all the work you know it's been a multi-year process already and we've and we've heard a couple of presentations of all the work that's gone into it so i i know i and the board does appreciate all the work that's going into it um but all in favor of approving strategic plan as written say aye aye any opposed okay we've adopted the strategic plan um we'll do b through i as a block because they're all agreements with various parties any discussions on be through i hearing none uh all in favor proving be through i please say aye aye in the opposed letter j is uh fundraisers any discussion on letter j all in favor of jay please say aye aye are you opposed letter k is creating a math teacher position in your discussion on

nine they sent a check for fifteen hundred dollars for us to to support students with with no explanation so i'm sure there was nine other districts that were going through the same thing of why did i get a fifteen hundred dollar check um so we are going to use the money to support our eagle days at the the middle school um and fund that for the kids to support our students with that thank you well that's fun frank it probably does it probably doesn't happen every day huh [Laughter] uh cool any further discussion i know all in favor of free money please say aye opposed personnel letter a one through five appointments new discussion on one through five letter a one through five hearing none all in favor of letter a please say aye aye
