Good morning. Today is a work session for Mobile County Public Schools SE public schools. Today is uh January 26, 2026. At this time, I will ask that uh Commissioner Stringfeller lead us to in prayer and pledge. Everyone, please stand. >> Our heavenly father, we thank you for this glorious, beautiful day and for the opportunity he gives us to serve our community. We ask your continued blessings on our school system and our teachers and the students that they serve. Please keep your protective hands around them. And also continue to inspire our teachers in the work that they do every day. Our heavenly father, we also pray for our first responders both abroad and at home and protect them as they protect us. And our heavenly father, we pray for our country so that we can overcome
the differences that uh separate us and we can become a better nation as a result of that. We ask all these things in thy name. Amen. I pledge algiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands. One nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. >> Well, good morning to all. Do we have any announcements? Um, Mr. Stringfeller. >> Yes, ma'am, I do. >> All right, sir. First of all, I would like to congratulate and thank Miss Phillips and her staff for a job well done in uh helping to prepare and submit and identify our teachers of the year which they all went through. And the good news is that there was a great increase this year and the number of individual schools who
had their teachers selected as a teacher of their school submit a resume and that's good news. And the ones that were selected, I think we're going to have really good representatives that will compete at the state level. I would not be surprised if we don't have a winner out of that. So, congratulations, Renee, and to your staff because I know all the stuff uh that you had to do. >> Okay. Thank you. Uh Mr. Parson, >> I'd like to say I hope I'm not shooting too fast, but I just want to say facility department for our schools. Mom stand a good job this weather and all. just know hope it continues. I know we got a rough week ahead and another week coming up later, but looks like y'all doing a great job. >> Okay,
that's it. Mr. Hatcher. >> No, ma'am. I'm good. I think the department is doing a really really good job. Thank you. >> Okay. >> Madam chairperson, could I add one more thing? >> Yes, sir. Go ahead. >> Mr. Superintendent, I would like to ask you to have River into the staff in in our board uh deliberations for student hearings. I have noticed and I think some of the other board members have noticed that we've had several incidences where students are still using cameras and stuff to identify bites. Gosh knows whatever else. Yes, sir. Now, my point is I I think I've been to schools where you hardly see any of that a problem, but I also noticed that there are some schools where it seems to be I don't know if they're having difficulty in,
you know, with the pouches or whatever they're using. But find if you can find out where those problems because we've got a law now, we had a policy, but now we have a law that students are not supposed to be having them out. and if there's some bugs or holes in that we need to close. Uh but if you could kind of do a little investigation to see if that's a systemwide or just isolated. Uh because it troubles me to see we've got that policy in law now and yet we still see some schools where it's prevalent. So if you could find out I would appreciate is >> very good. >> I want to add to that and some of these videos we've been seeing from the students inside the classrooms and some of these
fights and things we've been seeing a lot of. We've been seeing them last few weeks and uh some of them been real beneficial because it showed us what happened and we got to see it from the students themselves in this. So that again kicks me to the problem that throws it into uh cameras. I I think they're very informative. I think it it shows everything and I I we've talked and I maybe we get some cost analysis on what we can do. Seems like our middle and high schools are having issues and uh sometime that video is without a doubt I don't know nobody who would say that it's doesn't work. It doesn't help. It does without a doubt in my mind. So we could maybe start thinking a little bit about that. >> Might
speak on that for just one second. I think if we if we look around, you've got other systems that do it. Uh Beluxy, uh Scambia County, um there's two of them that I know of. And I think uh one little further up from Washington County, they do it as well. Um, I just don't think the cost is that, you know, just out of curiosity, do you happen to know what the cost was to put the ones in the the spontane I think >> three million. We got a billion dollar budget, buddy. >> Three million expensive. I think that would be a small number given everything that Mr. I think >> Fred Gil just said with the servers and and the accumulation of all of that data and stuff and depending upon what kind of uh
>> and I I assume I say we just go ahead and get a cost analysis and go from there >> and I was not prepared really to talk about it that much now but I know from >> and I teacher standpoint I was just the teacher standpoint I safety. How much is that worth? How much is it worth when these parents send their kids to our schools? Are we supposed and we're responsible keeping them safe? >> I'm not sure what >> So, how much is that worth? So, I'll put more thought into that, but again, I think that uh it definitely needs to be looked at. >> It would be priceless to me to be able to show a parent exactly why their ch children is not being educated. when they say their child's not
being educated, I'd love to show here. Look, this is why. >> Okay. Well, good. Well, since we covered that, >> I just want to say that the the second semester started off real good. We we're real pleased with what our teachers are doing, what what our support staff as well as our um facilities and and everyone that make Mobile [clears throat] County Public Schools the success that we is. So, if there's any indication that we're going to have a great year from the opening of the second semester, well, we applaud all of you for your your efforts and your energies and we really thank you. Any announcements from you, Mr. Superintendent? >> No, ma'am. >> Okay. Let's move forward with action items. >> All right. Action item C1 is the 2026 27 school calendar that
we do every year to uh disseminate uh to get input. We have um option one and option two. Uh so we will get those out uh for in for input. Action item C2 is the Barton Yerby resolution 2026 is just to uh reaffirm the commitment to um restore on the Barton Academy campus is the Yerby building. It's no commitment at this point. is just to start looking at some financial uh avenues that we can take to start to restore that building. >> Can I ask you a question on that, please? >> Yes, sir. >> I know we looked at that. It's been looked at for years. We've been looking at that and uh certainly worth doing. I know in the past we looked at and there's a lot of grants. There's a lot of historical
issues there. So, surely we'll cover all that. I might be hopefully we can find some help. >> Yeah, we got the blueprint now um doing Barton. So Lori's in charge of that. So I think it'll be an easier process. Any other questions? All right. So let me stop pause here and and kind of explain. Um >> what's a 10% increase? No, what what we're doing is uh the old part of the floor, which was the front part of the floor, uh we're going moving forward with the um mechanical upgrade to get that up to par because we have a vision of moving one of our schools into that lo location. Um, so we found it, um, and
Lewis can explain further, uh, but we're getting a really good deal to do the mechanical upgrade for that whole area versus renovating an entire school. So, we're going to move one of our schools into that um into that lo location. Lewis, do you mind giving them exactly what that 5 million will get us? power system and the rest of the building and good shape. better than us. All right. Any other questions? >> Bless you. All right. Moving on to action item 31, Williamson High School football stadium change order number one. There was an increase of $219,918 for a grand total of 6,649,918 coming out of PCA funds. 019place at the start of the football season? >> The scoreboard that's currently there at work. What was the total cost of the It's I know it's not 219. What was the total cost of the scoreboard or the video board? >> Maybe uh we move that to Central Mail. You know, we discussed that. I mean, they don't have one on baseball. >> We gave it to you. >> Talking about the old scoreboard. >> They did, but the other part that don't even have anything functional >> move that to You just want >> You don't You don't want that scoreboard. >> Come on. >> Don't worry about it. >> Moving on to uh [laughter] action item 32, uh Theodore High School roof replacement change order number one. That was a decrease of $106,749.80 for a grand total
of $3,282,25020 coming out of PCA funds. >> Ain't bad for three years worth of work. >> All right. Action item C33 is Mayor Montgomery softball lighting. We had five bids. I don't know what who did what in the beginning, but I've heard about it. I had looked at it. I don't know if it's a safety factor or will be later. Stadium. I mean, concrete is cracked up. I mean, it's is there a safety factor
of the stadium falling down? It's not like somebody's off. We want to make it nice or beautiful. Just something that's necessary. >> Trade that for a scoreboard. [laughter] >> Tell them again. >> All right. At action item C35 is agreement between uh Brightley software for energy management team. It is the renewal of software license agreement for $39,255.77. Uh that rent will be $31,500. >> Is that yearly or? >> It's yearly, but we just doing it for a reason. But >> yeah. All
right. So, um, these next two, uh, C38 and C39, I'm going to read them and then I will, um, it's a little convoluted, so I'll allow, um, Lewis Anderson to kind of explain a little bit, but C38 is Herby Street resolution requesting uh, the property is to sell the parcel of Herby Street. Um, and it shouldn't be any financial impact. C39 is a revision and addendum to purchase the agreement for Herby Street. Um, and it's the sale of a vacant parcel of property and there's no financial impact, but it's a whole convoluted story that goes back to the 1920s. Uh, so I will allow Lewis to ex explain Everything. This is still Okay. >> Who was the superintendent of 19 in 1920? >> Go check the pictures on the wall. >> Have to read on
that again. >> Glendale is what it is. then can go through. >> All right. So, uh C40 through C50 is uh listed under separate cover is personnel. Uh are there any questions in those action items? >> No. >> All right. Hearing no questions for the action items. [snorts] This will be the first month that we will uh consolidate our con consent. And I will just say uh consent uh agenda items D1 through consent agenda item D35 with that including um D34 out of county travel and D35 various
bids. Are there any questions? All right. hearing no questions. Uh we move to our flow through items which is kind of the very similar. Uh these are our private schools items. Uh we have uh one through six of our private schools um having different con contracts. Are there any questions in our flow through with our private school monies? All right. Hearing no questions, we will move to our information item, monthly financials, G1 and G2, uh, purchase orders over 5,000. Okay. All right. We have a great information. Okay. >> All right. Schedule a meeting. Are we good? >> Madame Chairperson, I have on my calendar and unless it's been changed. Mr. Hack is not here. Maybe the lady can answer. We had a uh or do have or did have an employee hearing that day. Is
that still on? Do you know? a week having help. >> It was scheduled for 9:00 in our board meetings at 10. >> No. >> Well, if it's >> Yeah, it's been settled and that's >> that's at 28 here. It's not >> selling. No, it's got 9:00. >> It's going to be seven, right? >> The bottom line is there will not be. >> Oh, she will. >> I know she will. >> She will. No problem at all. Okay. Uh scheduling of meetings. We don't have any meetings other than yes. Yeah. Okay. And none others. >> All right. Do I hear a motion for adjournment? >> No. I got a question. >> Yes, sir. >> Mr. today. Was it anybody notified you from Blunt High School that we having Lee Hunter today? Kid in the senior ro.
Nobody notified. There's also a young man who finished second in the state in chess. Chess. Second in the state. He was a a tie, but the other guy uh had more wins. But uh if you'll get uh in touch with somebody out there, that's quite noteworthy >> for African-American male to be second in the state in chess. >> Uh you can do that, too. But we need to get the recognition out. That's the important thing. That's all I have. Oh, and uh I want to congratulate Miss Dave and Reginaw for being reelected >> uh honorable post. We got six more years to put up with us and Mr. Hatchet. [laughter] >> That's all. >> What's that? >> No, you wasn't. >> I didn't recognition. [laughter] >> The checker team. >> He wasn't on the checker
team. That's all madam. >> Okay. >> All right. Do you have any other announcements, Mr. Spinfeld? >> That's a tough time. >> I'm not going to say nothing after that last. >> Okay. Mr. Parson, >> Mr. Hatcher. >> No, I'm in a good mood. Okay. So, do I have a motion? >> Motion. >> Yeah, I hear a second. >> All right. Motion car. All in favor? >> I motion pass. I thought you like that.
