Good evening. It's 5:34 p.m. We will call to order a regular meeting of the board of education. Please stand for the pledge. >> Pledge to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. I'll ask for a motion to enter into executive session to discuss matters pertaining to the employment of particular persons. >> Motion. >> Thanks, Matt. Second by Jackie. All in favor? >> I Okay, we're back to order. 6:25 p.m. This time I'll ask for a motion to enter into executive session to discuss uh matters relating to the uh employment of a particular person. >> Motion Ed. >> Second Mike. All in favor? >> I. We're back on. Are there any additions or deletions to the

agenda? Okay. Is there a motion to accept the minutes of the October 13th uh board of education meeting? >> Motion. >> Second. >> If it was the 13th, then the agenda just needs to be updated to say the 13th. If it was the 15th, then it's just that >> my eyes going >> read it differently. >> Okay. Yep. [laughter] I don't remember what date it was. So, yeah, I will trust. >> All right. Motion to accept the minutes of the October 15th meeting. >> Mike. Motion. Second. Matt. All in favor? >> I. >> Business considerations. We have 61 through 612. Is there a motion for one or more? Motion for all. Jackie. >> Second by Ed. Any discussion? No. All in favor? >> I. Personnel considerations. We have 71 through 724. Is there a motion

for one or more? >> Hold on a second. Matt. Personnel considerations. >> Yeah. I'd like to hold out um the it's the uh uh administrative subs. I can't find the number. >> Administrative subs is 76. >> Pull out 716, please. Yes. >> All right. Matt is making a motion for 71 through 724 with the exception of 716. >> Second, Mike. Any discussion on those items? I just want to say congratulations to the folks who are announcing their retirement. Although I am very sad to see them go. Um very happy for them. Uh I I don't know the the one teacher who's on here. However, Mr. Kenzer has been a great member of the Peter B team. Um and we will be very sad to see him go. But big congratulations there. >> I I do

have a comment too. >> Yeah, >> I second that. But on one of those two retirements, um I think the date is wrong. I believe is this 6:3025. >> Okay. I'm having a hard time. I'm sorry. I'm trying to work my phone here. >> Gotcha. >> Thank you. [clears throat] >> Okay. And uh on the agenda uh tonight, we do have a proposal to fill a position for the secretary secretary to the superintendent. Um Craig, if you would uh just for for everybody's purpose here, just describe a little bit what that role will entail, what some of the >> uh I I appreciate that comment and the opportunity to share uh because I think it's important for people to know that in filling this position, we're also doing some restructuring at district office. So, this

person will be an assistant to the superintendent, but also supporting the business office. Uh also over time we've discovered that there are a number of functions that used to belong to this position that have been outsourced to other offices. So those will be coming back. Uh the person will also immediately begin crossraining to be the board clerk uh eventually alongside Sue uh and will not receive additional compensation for any of those things. >> Okay. And I assume the plan is at some point in time Sue would likely retire and do something much more enjoyable than >> unless we choose to convince her otherwise. >> We'd love her to stay, but I imagine at some point retirement will call Sue and this individual will hopefully fill those shoes. >> Correct. >> And no additional compensation be

part of the job. >> So I [laughter] mean just saying >> one of the seats at the table. That's that's fine. Then >> you still got to come though. I just want to add too I mean the reason we we were asking just so people understand too was when they look at the agenda it's an impactful salary y but it's it's not for just I mean Craig just mentioned it but it's for not just what it is now but what it's going to be coming as >> as well. So when people see that understand that when they're looking at that. >> Yeah it is um it is a significant salary. I think we all recognize that, but it's also a significant responsibility that's going to be filled. And from what I hear from everybody who

has uh conducted interviews, this candidate is an exceptional fit. So, I'm prepared to welcome her to the district. Uh is there any other questions on any of the personnel considerations? Okay. All in favor? I >> Is there a motion for >> motion >> Jackie. Thank you. Second, Pete. Any discussion? >> Just I'll be abstaining because it involves my spouse. >> Okay. All in favor? >> I >> with Matt abstaining. >> Abstension. You >> all right? Uhformational items. A couple of donations to note this evening. Uh there's a sum of money from Frank Lfalo for classroom supplies. Thank you very much for that. And $200 from Under the Sun and Moon gifts for winter hats for students. Thank you very much for that. And also on here, there's an attachment on the agenda uh proposed amendments

to the district-wide school safety plan. There'll be a public hearing at the beginning of next meeting uh for the district plan. So if there anybody has any comments, I can make those before or at that meeting and then that'll be on the agenda next time for approval. >> Any changes? The ones that are noted here just for DeA's law. >> Okay. Thank you. >> All right, Superintendent Chandler. >> Uh yeah, so uh thank you and good evening everyone. Uh I want to start tonight with something particularly meaningful. Uh, as most of you probably know, I've been working with our staff with the theme of piece by piece. Uh, recognizing that each of us plays a unique and specific part in the puzzle of our district. Uh, so just recently, we began handing out these pins

that I've been wearing uh to each of our staff members. Some people don't have them yet, but we're going to hope to uh make sure that every staff member, regardless of their role, receives one. So, I have one for each of you tonight that I hope you will wear proudly. >> Thank you. >> Pass them along. We need three to go that way. So, I hope you appreciate and enjoy those. Uh I also want to recognize and thank our school leaders and our staff members for the tremendous work that they did around honoring our veterans uh this past Veterans Day. Um from classroom activities, special assemblies, uh fundraisers for disabled American veterans. Uh it was uh they really did an outstanding job and I just would like to publicly thank all the veterans in our

community for their service. Uh and hopefully you felt recognized this week by the school district. Uh and then uh the last thing I wanted to mention in uh the most recent uh onboard publication uh there was an article about uh supporting uh athletic directors and as we onboard our new athletic director. I just wanted to recognize that uh the board for proactively uh knowing that our new athletic director is going to need some help and support and asking uh what ways we can do that for him. And some of those ways are outlined in that article. Uh, and that's all I have for tonight. Thank you. >> Any questions for Bernett, >> I like the little card that goes along with it. That's a very nice sentiment. >> Yeah. Thank you very much. >> I

lost the back. [laughter] >> Really? >> This is the only one that I own that doesn't [laughter] >> When I first got mine, I I noted, "Wow, it has such a strong back. I don't think it's ever going to go anywhere. >> I missed it. >> You must have got a defect. >> I missed putting it on. That's all. All right, we're good now. >> Little special. >> All right, Jean. >> Uh, just a couple of quick updates. Uh, we had our board of ed CNI meeting last month. Um, and we had a great presentation from the special ed um and office of student support services. They went over their entire data-driven goals for the year and there really was an emphasis on that and aligning it to some of our expectations around using data

more data um to really identify meeting those goals. We ran out of time uh for two items uh around middle school and high school. So those are going to get shifted. Our next meeting is actually tomorrow. That's an elementary focus. But then we have a middle school focus in December. So, we'll return to a conversation around honors, uh, English and social studies in 8th grade. And then, um, the high school piece was talking about some of the changes to the graduation requirements that will get pushed to the January meeting because that's a high school focus. I also just wanted to take uh, a minute to thank our PTA at AW Becker and our PTO at Peter B. Uh they were instrumental in bringing Eric Litman to the Eric Litwin to the schools as an author

visit. The original Pete the Cat writer. Um he had an incredible message around the power of reading and imagination and the value of that that I think he interacted so well with students across ages. So thank you for that. Um we and you'll have some more details in the weekend update. We completed our state education site visit for our preschool programs here and at Circle of Friends. Went really well. We had two reviewers this time. They got into all six classrooms, gave us feedback about what we're doing well. Um promising practices and then some areas where we can grow. Um but no corrective action. Thank you very much. >> Um and then finally, we had our superintendence conference day on Monday. I can't it feels like a week ago. Uh again, I have some details

in the weekend update, but there was a real range of um activities from um department time to more specific work with some of our consultants that we've contracted with um for ENL and learning about English language learners. Um tying tier one instructional practices back to restorative practices with our secondary folks. Um so, and we had some of our internal folks also running some of those workshops. So, thank my thanks to Kate and Colleen for for leading that um as well. And then finally, I'd mentioned already just that uh if you we have our CNI meeting tomorrow with an elementary focus. We're going to be looking at some data. So, join us if you can. >> I have one question for you. Um did you did you say they'll be moving back to restorative practices? So

she took we did our first year we focused on building you know trauma and restorative practices that kind of focus for instruction. This time she took that work and connected it to tier one instructional practices. So without having to shift your focus and teach skills how you can use some classroom moves to actually teach your content but is also restorative and >> okay practice. >> Thank you. >> Thanks >> Jesse. Uh so tonight uh I wanted to do a discussion about uh budget [clears throat] uh budget seasons is upon us again for the 26 uh 27 u uh school year. Um so first off I attach the proposed uh draft 2627 budget development calendar. Uh I always like to run it by the board first to see what kind of presentations you guys might be

looking for. Uh if you remember last year the first one was a fiscal uh review. Uh the second one I believe was more of an instructional based uh presentation. Uh third one was more um we did transportation, IT, cafeteria, uh and talked about the capital project. And then the final one was a three-part budget where we we put everything together and and and said what our final budget was going to be. And then adoption would be um at the 15th which gives us a little time if you want to add to an additional presentation uh if need be. Uh and then finally we would need to um adopt it towards the end of April. Um I just looking for some advice if you guys like that like how we handled it last year. Would you

like to see something different? any particular items um while we're planning here uh you guys would definitely like to see um or kind of stick to that plan for now. >> So, we're going to do it similar to last year. >> It's up to you guys. last year um before the presentations when the principles put in their their plans and sent them in. >> I I think it was it was reported out on what things were go were going through and what things weren't going through at that point. So then as a board we can look to see if there was something in there that we were interested in possibly going a different route with. >> Yeah. I don't want to say different rules with but maybe we should look into emphasizing something that's of

a concern and we still do it that way. >> Absolutely. So what we're also adding to this year's budget process is I'm putting out a form uh to everybody. So even even though that uh in the past has gone directly to the uh building administrators or the directors of the department uh and they would relay the information to us. This year we're going to do it where everybody can put their input and we're encouraging everybody to to say, "Hey, this is what I love to do. This is what I need." And that kind of stuff. And then we will we will uh look at as a as a department and as a group to say, "Hey, this this might be something good." And that's also a good way to plan say, "Hey, we can't do

this, but this might be perfect for the PTA or PTO." So, it's going to help them in planning their budgets and uh working through their fundraisers. So, uh that uh survey is going to be going out at the end of the week. they'll have two months to put in their ideas and um thoughts for next year. Uh and then we will take that and develop that into the budget. So um I also uh will be meeting with um superintendent meets with some of the students so to get some of the inputs from them as well. Uh >> next week. >> Yeah. So, uh, that's really the only different, uh, thing we've added into the budget process that we really didn't do in previous years. Uh, we'd like to give people more options to, uh, voice

their opinions on it. >> Yeah. Uh the only other thing before we get into that presentation, last year we did with with the months with the uh two board meetings. Uh we made one a board meeting and the other one a budget workshop. Um is the board okay with doing that? And obviously if we need to make it a board the second one a board meeting, we can absolutely do that. Uh but we could plan uh to have the first one being a board meeting and the second one being a budget workshop. >> Um it seemed to work out pretty well last year. >> Yeah, that's fine. >> Okay. Um the only one where we we might uh do a uh a budget related presentation would be on March 11th uh which is also a

board meeting just because uh we'd like to get that third one in. Um but so if you guys are okay with that, we'll make sure that's communicated out to everybody that the first one being a regular board meeting and the second one being a a budget workshop. >> Okay. >> You just went too fast for me, Jess. >> Sorry. Um we had talked last year and you added a nice little synopsis of impact. We're going to continue that. >> Yeah, absolutely. So that's what I was thinking. The the first one being kind of fiscal >> um kind of where we are, where the districts are, some of the concerns, some of historical information and some of the concerns going forward of what we're looking at. >> We But you know, I was talking about that

particular >> Oh, that that graph those graphs >> and I'll have a finance I'll have a finance committee meeting as well to discuss that. Yep. Absolutely. >> And I'm definitely interested. I don't know about everybody else, but I'm interested in as we see these budgets from the departments, the line by line budgets, too. The overview is good. important is to see, but I'd like to see line by line budgets as well. >> Okay. Um I don't know if a board meeting is is uh great time uh to go line by line. >> I'm not asking to go line. I just want I just want to be able to see the line by line. >> Absolutely. Well, it is in that uh budget statement every year. You you're able to see every single line. >> Isn't

that after we approve it though? >> True. >> That's why so I want to see before we approve it. >> You got it. I I think I have a good idea what we can I can put together for you guys. Not I'm not looking to go through everything line by line, >> right? Okay. So, yeah, absolutely. I'll I'll come up with something. >> Any other suggestions or ideas or and obviously if something comes up, you guys hear anything or or um we can obviously change. I just like to plan ahead of time. So, >> yeah, appreciate that. >> All right, >> that's all I got. >> Anything else for Jesse? >> All right, thanks. >> Yeah, thank you. Owen, you got anything? I honestly don't have much this week. Uh I would just like to

ask if we looked into like the uh music streaming like is that if that's a bandwidth issue or if that was something else because if it was Yeah, I'm just wondering if >> So it's actually two things. It definitely is a bandwidth issue. >> Okay. And then it's also that uh edlaw 2D compliance that you're probably not familiar with, but it's a data data privacy >> law in New York State >> for students where we're not allowed >> outside providers need to sign an agreement that they're not using your data >> for pretty much anything. So, um none of those companies have done that. >> Okay. Other than that, I mean, I don't really have anything. So, Walkman's for you though. So if I come across one, I will bring one in. You guys can

share it if you need to. I might only be able to get an ace of bass tape to it, but I don't can't promise. >> Our our band teacher brought in a CD player for the music room. So >> perfect. >> There you go. >> See, we just got to go a little bit backwards in time. It's fine. Yeah. >> She said, >> "Pipod and MP3s is >> Napster." >> Yeah. Right. Anything. I think Napster is going in the wrong direction. I'm pretty sure that whole thing was illegal. Uh Anything not internet enabled that plays music would be fine. >> All right, thanks one. Any new business items tonight? >> I like to bring one up under new business. It's not necessary. It's more of a just a notification. I was more confused on personnel

because of my technical difficulties here and I missed it. Um, this is more for the people in the community to know. We did lose two teachers in the last couple of weeks. These are teachers who actually were done retired before I even even I started teaching. But for those of out there that know, Ranatada Beninat was a longtime uh art teacher um at different levels in our school and Rosemary Toronto was a pretty beloved elementary school teacher for a very very long time in the district as well. They both passed away in the last couple of weeks. So just [snorts] to let people know and be aware of that. All right. Thanks, Matt. Anything else? All right. Uh under old business, we have this one thing hanging out, the athletic code of conduct. Uh, and

now that we have our athletic director in place, uh, I think that's something that we'll be exploring again. So, we'll we'll talk about that offline. Okay. >> He needs some time to get up to speed, but then >> we'll revisit that topic for sure. >> Yep. Very good. >> I don't know if if you want to do it now or not. I do it off off track, whatever. Have we have any update on the that scoreboard, the portable scoreboard that was broken? I don't know anything about that. Do we know if >> the one >> I know our own people were looking at repairing it. >> Yeah, apparently it blew over and and was broken. So, we only got the >> I don't have an update. I'm sorry. >> Okay. >> So, I will find

out for you. We can find out. Yeah. >> I don't know if that was fixed or but >> yeah, I would like to know. >> To your concern, it was a significant expense and >> we I don't think anybody expected that one, it would blow over or two >> after that happened that it would not work. >> Correct. I bring it up with both hats on because not only do we want to have it for our students and use it, um we were storing it in that um dugout, which may or may not we we got to find exactly what happened there, but more so um >> because this sport association did buy know we donated it >> before it gets too far along the path if it's we we want to make sure if

it's a warranty thing. >> Yes. >> We we have all that purchase information. So we want to get a warranty covered if that's the case. We'll get we'll make sure there's uh something in your in your [clears throat] weekend update. >> All right. Thank you. >> All right. Under policy adoption review tonight, there's four items. I see they're all on for second read and two of them >> look like they're up for approval or >> or all four up for approval. >> Yeah. I don't know why it says end approval, but they all should be second would make them all approval. >> Okay. >> If I could I take Absolutely. So, the first three, if you guys recall, the first three are just reviews. That's just uh there are certain policies that we have to

look at every year and review every year. There were no changes to any of those. Um they just we went looked at them again, make sure they're good and we're sending them forward. The fourth one is the naming facilities and acceptance of memorials. Um I hope you guys had a chance to look at it. We've had given it to you once before. We did make some modifications to the um at MSBA's request or um suggestion that instead of just if we do ever name a building or put a memorial out that instead of just leaving it there in per in perpetuity uh we have a review and we put it down to 10 years say it's at 15. So after 10 years we can make an ad hoc committee and they would review that. Uh,

that also would work for again, let's say we name a building, we have to take the building down or I I raised a point there's a a tree out in the courtyard here that almost got ripped up in the last project because people didn't realize it. So that committee would look at that, review it, decide what to do with it, keep it, name it, take it away, but everything else stayed from the first reading. So >> make the decision. The committee would make a proposal to the board. The board >> The board Yeah. The committee would review it. Sorry. >> Yeah. Just to be clear, the board would still be the one that makes the decision as to whether or not a memorial would be removed. >> Correct. >> Okay. Thanks, Matt. Is there a

motion then for adoption of all the policies or any of the policies? >> 131 through 134. I'll make the motion. >> Okay. Thanks, Matt. >> Second, Mike. Any further discussion? All right. All in favor? >> I All right. We have no hearing petition forms tonight. upcoming activities. Uh first we have Thanksgiving recess coming up. Uh and then we have our next board meeting. As mentioned, there'll be a public hearing at the beginning of that meeting. Then we'll have our elementary awards followed by the regular board meeting. Uh does anybody else have anything tonight before I ask for a motion to go back into executive session? Okay. Then I'll ask for a motion to enter into executive session to discuss matters relating to the employment of a particular person. Melanie, thank you. Second, checky. All in

favor? >> I'll be taking no further action when we come back. Yeah. >> Thank you.
