Please remain standing for the land acknowledgement and say that. >> I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation indivisible, with liberty and justice for >> Salamanca City Central School District acknowledges the homeland of the Andawaka, the people of the great hill, the Seneca people, on whose ancestral and modern-day land Salamanca School District now stands, and whose water we enjoy. We stand with all indigenous peoples in their resolve to remain connected to their land. While we cannot undo what has been done, it is the goal of the Salamanca City Central School District to recognize the history and make improvements that will benefit the next seven generations of indigenous students. >> Do we have any changes to the agenda? >> Uh, let's see.
Since it was published on Friday, we do have a couple. Um, we section six, we added item C, uh, which is uh, some additional surplus items. In section six, item A, we added a position for an interim administrator. And then in section seven, we removed two individuals from appointments, um, as we deemed those not necessary. >> Okay. Then with that, I need a motion to approve the agenda. >> Motion. >> Second. >> Motion by Carrie, second by Dale. All in favor? >> Aye. >> Opposed? Abstain? Motion carried. All right. Next, next we have our recognitions and presentations. Take it away. >> Leader. Here we go again. So, last time of late, um, So, the big assumption is, do we or do we not have a state budget? You listen to the governor, we do. You
listen to everybody else, we do not. And uh nothing has been um put out officially, so we do not have a budget. Make the assumptions that we're using the uh executive run for the state aid revenues. Again, tax levy will remain flat at 250,000 for the ninth year in a row. So, the revenues breakdown, um put your glasses on here. Um state aid at 55% of all revenue per share. State aid at 55%, impact aid at 19. Um indigenous tuition and transportation are 17. Those are the big ones. Um and I it cracks me up that taxes are 0% cuz it's like 0.48% or something. That's um that's the revenues for the year. Expenditures, um as you know, we have to break them down between admin, capital, and program. So, by admin, capital, and program.
Program uh costs are at $51 million for the full budget. Admin is at 6.2 and capital at 6.5. What I think is more telling is the expenses by type. Salaries at $27 million and fringe at 13. So, the two of them are $40 million of of a $63 million budget. Which is is large, but that's we don't make widgets. So, we teach kids, so that should be what the uh majority of the budget is. Most leases is another 10% or 10% $10 million and contractual at seven. Uh point zero, almost point one. So, the rest of them are much, much smaller. So, I think that tells you a lot more than the admin capital and and programming. So, we also have $100,000 in there for capital outlay. So, for HVAC system in the IT closet
that runs all of our technology, that's going to be replaced as well as anticipating replacing one of the >> heat recovery units >> Yes. One of the heat recovery units on the roof and according to Rich, there are 22 of them. So, we're getting started to replace them before they fail. Uh also on the um I was going to say ballot, there's another proposition for an electric bus. So, that'll be out there as well. And then with this budget, we're continuing all programming. We'll continue with a free breakfast, lunch, and snacks. And we'll also continue with providing uh students school supplies. We do a contingent budget. The only thing that changes is a whole lot of stuff is no longer allowed, I guess. Um district buildings including all the athletic fields are not usable unless
they're paying 100% of the fee usage. Bus purchases and all equipment purchases will be eliminated. Any non-union, non-certified personnel will have salary freezes. We'll also eliminate all field trips and professional development. And regardless of all of that, the tax levy still remains at $250,000. It does not change. The vote is on the 19th from noon until 9:00 and it's in the admin wing, I believe. Is that correct? Okay. Um and that is your budget hearing. Any questions? >> Any questions? >> I guess uh the voting, it's in the admin wing? >> Correct. Yep. We have a lot going on that night. Um the voting is going to be in the admin wing. We have uh the art show in the gymnasium. We have a student performance. We have Rock the Poles. So, that will start
I believe at 4:00 or 4:30 with student performances um in the auditorium. And then we have Nerds Gone Wild, which is a exceptionally popular '80s band. And they're going to sort of be working with the students. So, there'll be some overlap. So, many of our kids will know what it feels like to be a rock star by the end of the night. >> Awesome. Okay. So, are we publicizing far and wide? >> vote is in. >> Yeah, we correct. >> Okay. >> So, we're going to get everybody here. There'll be signs outside as a reminder. Um and we'll help people find their way. I'll meet you. >> Okay. >> In December it was. >> Yeah, December. >> Oh, that's right. Wrong spot. >> Okay. Any other questions? Okay. Thanks, Karen. Okay. Next uh we have
communications. Do we have any public comment? >> We do not. >> Okay. What about title six? All right. Well, then I guess we can move on to central office message. Karen? >> I think we should start with Mickey. Um yeah, I mean I I've just been pounding on budget stuff. So, um and trying to keep the balls rolling in in all of our courts. Um I just gave um the principals um bonus I guess you want to call it anyway to tell Mark this. >> I heard. >> Um The um I gave them a bonus so to speak of uh $30,000 to spend on equipment um from some of the other lines that had not been utilized. Um, and Marcy has $100,000 left in technology equipment. So, they'll have until the end of the month
to give me the information on those purchases. >> I'll second it. >> Other than that, it's >> All right. Is Nikki Ann >> Nikki's unavailable tonight. >> Of course that's his excuse. She was out today. Okay. >> All right then, we'll move on to our board message. Uh, I guess I'll start it off tonight. I'd like to welcome everybody here. We hopefully see just as many here for graduation as we do here tonight. That would be great. Just going to throw that little plug out there while I have so many here. Um, and again, I'm going to say what I always say, we're always here to help the kids and the staff and the community. So, if there's any issues or any concerns, please bring it to the board members or the administrator because we
are here to help our kids in any way that we can. We want to make them when they leave here, ready to conquer whatever they want to do, whether it's go to college or whether that is just to get a job or join the military. Whatever they want, we're here to try to help and support them as we are with the staff. So, we're always here to listen and to support whenever we can. Uh, and with that, I'm going to turn it over to Carrie. >> Hey, we're going the wrong way. >> We're going the wrong way again. >> We'll start around here. Okay. >> Okay. Okay. Very sorry. >> You guys got it. >> All right. Um, usually I just say ditto to what everybody else has already said before me because that's everything
I was going to talk about anyway. But, Um, hey, thank you. I will start all every board meeting where I thank all of our staff, our administrators and my colleagues. I want to thank you all for everything you do for us the kids of our community here. It doesn't go unnoticed and we appreciate every bit of it. And it looks like we have a lot of staff in the audience tonight. So, thank you guys. You're never here ever for these board meetings, but I thank everybody every single board meeting. So, you're here in person tonight, so thank you guys. It doesn't go unnoticed and it's not unappreciated. We appreciate everything you guys do. So, there's that and thank you guys for everything you guys do as well. Um a lot going on these days uh
for me, I got to as we're done here, I got to get back over to the game next door. Uh girls are playing Orchard Park tonight and they start at 6:00, so whenever we're done then I'm right back over there. Okay. Um but yeah, a lot happening. We're winding down the year. Uh looking forward to a strong finish. Uh before we know it, it's going to be summer and we're going to be wondering what happened to the school year and for us, we still have our meetings, we still have business to do and then it all comes back in the fall again. So, it's it's a never-ending cycle and it's always fun though. You know, this is my uh 11 years here now? 11 years and I wouldn't change anything for the world. This is
awesome. You know, it's great to help the kids in the community and we see noticeable differences. These these kids, you know, a lot of them you see the smiles, you see the happiness, you see everything else that goes on in our community and that's really what this is all about is the kids in the community, you know, helping them, improving their lives, moving forward to make them successful successful adults. So, thank you all. That's all I got. >> Dale? >> Go ahead. Yeah, you go ahead. >> Thanks for everybody coming out. Um like you Carey said, you know, thanks to everybody for all that you do day in and day out for our kids. Um everywhere from from the administrators to the teachers to teach teacher assistants to bus drivers, everybody, cleaning staff. You really
do make a difference in in these kids' lives, whether you think that you do or not, but I just want to say thank you. Um I want to keep it short because I know my esteemed colleague has a has a lacrosse game, so that's all I >> I was given very explicit instructions to get out there and score goals. So, we're fine. >> Thank you. >> Fred? >> I also want to say thank you all for coming out, and I want to encourage everybody to come out and vote next week on the budget, and I also want to wish good luck to all the sports teams as they head into their post-season competitions. >> Ed? >> No, I just want to thank everybody for coming out. It's It's nice to see the adults in the
back and the students that came later had to sit up front, so But, the Now, the year's coming to an end, final push for everybody. Buckle down, and before you know it, we're almost literally weeks away from an ending, in terms of the school year, so final push, good luck to everybody on all that stuff. Sports are in full throttle, so make sure you go out to see that with some nice weather going around. Also, don't forget to go out and vote next week. >> Stacy? >> Um I'd like to thank everybody for coming out. Um adults and students alike. Um I want to wish good luck to all of the games winners tonight. Um and as always, go Warriors, and don't forget to go out and vote on May 19th. And that's it for
me. >> No doubts. Thanks. >> Christian? >> Um you know, I'd like to thank all the the staff and all the the students for coming out tonight. Uh like my colleagues have mentioned, you know, all the hard work that you guys have put on put on through the this year, even leading up to this year before the school year started, um please know that it's very appreciated. Um you know, having three kids in this district, I'm very fortunate and something I don't take for granted. I'm very appreciative of all the the services that the teachers provide from from A to Z. You name it. We're noticing noticeable differences with our kids and we're very thankful for that. So, thank you all very much. And I just want to thank Karen for your your hard work
on the budget that presentation tonight. And Aaron's not here tonight. I know he usually gives a really good update, but I did have a chance to attend the title six indigenous indigenous youth council and the murdered and missing missing indigenous peoples day last week that event we had in the gym. I was able to attend that during work. I thought that was great. It was nice to see all the students coming out and the the teachers and staff even getting up there and dancing and everything. I thought that was really good. Just good for you know, a good message for a good cause and it was nice to see all the teachers and staff supporting us. So, thank you. And I'm excited. Actually, I'll be back here tomorrow morning. I got an interview with some
high school students. I was asked by Mrs. Winship or Ms. Winship to come in and do some interviews with some of the students. I think it's part of their interviewing skill set there. So, I'm excited to do that. I'm looking forward to it. Got all the questions ready to go. So, hopefully I'll see some of you guys tomorrow morning. And yeah, just hope everyone has a good meeting and a good night and again, thank you all for all you do. Thank you. >> Thanks, Christian. All right, then we'll move on to the superintendent. >> All right. Well, as everyone has said, it's great to see everybody. Thanks for coming out especially on such a nice night. We'll try and move things along here so you can get back to your families. Um A couple things
have happened since our last meeting. One was I think about two days after we approved the contract for Patriot Protection, they were back outside and sharing the safety and security of our students and staff in the buildings. So, that is the armed security guards that are outside and which So, we didn't really talk about it when it happened, but the company that we have been working with um has just sort of closed the doors, uh and it left us with a little gap while we went through the process of hiring additional or getting uh a new company in. And that process takes a little bit of time, but the new company that we're working with is called Patriot Protection. Fortunately, they hired back all of the previous security officers that they uh were previously employed
with First Response. So, they'll see the familiar faces. I know we've heard several people say it's good to see them back, and uh it's just one additional level of security that we provide for our students and our staff. Um Last week was Teacher Appreciation Week, so we'll acknowledge once again the hard work of our teaching staff, uh and uh reminder that the board will be providing lunch for you on June 25th. I had the opportunity last week already um to welcome the uh State Rural Schools Association uh and Ellicottville. Uh they at Holiday Valley they hosted uh one of the first conferences uh that are held outside of their normal annual conference. During that time, I welcomed them to the region, uh and had an opportunity to speak about land acknowledgement statements and what they
mean. Uh at the same conference, our Native American Curriculum Team also presented a session, so Salamanca was represented um quite well there, actually. I also had the chance, thanks to our uh board trustee Dale, who got me to attend the Cattaraugus-Allegany School Boards Association dinner last week, where I was on a panel with a couple other administrators and state legislators to talk about some issues around the budget. Um Diligent. So, BoardDocs is going away, and BoardDocs is where we keep our policies and our uh meeting minutes and agendas and whatnot. That's the probably phasing piece. So, I just wanted to acknowledge the work that our clerk, Tricia Wilt, has been doing. Um a lot of things happen behind the scenes in school districts or any organization, but particularly here. And for the past week or
a couple weeks, she has taken time away from her family to get training and then has spent quite a bit of time working on the setup for getting that transition to occur smoothly, right? It'll be smooth, right? Yeah, no problems at all. So, thank you to Mrs. Wilt. Today, we're pretty much at the end of state testing. So, I want to once again acknowledge all the hard work of our students, especially our teachers and administrators. And a big shout out to our clerk staff. Uh there was one day where we had issue, but that wasn't our fault. That was the state and that was everywhere. So, we had to, you know, pivot, make some changes, which is stressful for the staff and our students as well, but I think we did the best we could
given the circumstances, but everything else went exceptionally well. And I wanted to do thank Mrs. Brown and her staff. So, thank you as well. And then one last shout out to Karen for all the hard work that she's done getting the budget, which sort of culminates with the presentation tonight and the vote next Tuesday. That's all I got. >> All right. Thank you very much. All right, with that, we need a motion to approve the consent agenda. >> Motion. >> Second. >> Motion by Dan, second by Brad. Are there any questions? All in favor? >> Aye. >> Opposed? Abstain? Motion carried. Item six, we have new business. Item A is our SASA MLA. We need a motion to approve that MLA. >> Motion by Tracy. Second. Second by Tad. Are there any questions? All in
favor? >> Aye. >> Opposed? Abstain? Motion carried. Item B, we are creating a position, uh, positions a work-based learning teacher, a substitute ground teacher, part-time, and an interim administrator for student support compliance and MTSS accountability. So, we need a motion to create those positions. Motion. >> Motion by Dale. >> Second by Brad. Are there any questions? All in favor? >> Aye. >> Opposed? Abstain? Motion carried. Item C is our Medicaid resolution, um, and that's for transmitting identification. Um, so, we need a motion to approve, uh, the Medicaid resolution. >> Motion by Tad. Second by Carrie. Are there any questions? All in favor? >> Aye. >> Opposed? Abstain? Motion carried. Item D, we're declaring surplus for some desks, ellipticals, alto saxes, and a wireless access points. Um, so, we need a motion to declare those items
surplus. >> Motion. >> Second. >> Motion by Tracy. Second by Brad. Are there any questions? All in favor? >> Aye. >> Opposed? Abstain? Motion carried. Item E, we have a donation from Seneca Holdings for a thousand dollars, uh, to the class of 2027 for the Cindy Moore 5K supplies and scholarship fund. So, we need a motion to approve that donation. >> Motion by Tad. >> Second by Dale. Are there any questions? All in favor? >> Aye. >> Opposed? Abstain? Motion carried. Item F, we have approval for capital project phase 4.1 contractor for electrical for $294,118 for the high school auditorium for Beck Electric. >> Motion by Beck. >> Second. >> Motion by Carrie. This is like it. >> You did it quick. >> Motion by Carrie, second by Christian. Are there any questions? >> You
cut me off halfway through. >> Do you want to do you want to take it up? >> I was about to ask that. >> Yeah, yeah. Um just so we have been Sometimes we hear that we spend a lot of time and energy and funding on athletics at the expense of other areas, but you know, I think sometimes that just gets most of the attention. Um we're investing in the well >> 800,000? 750? >> Pretty close to it. >> So we're approaching $800,000 in investment for auditorium upgrades. Um and what you're seeing here is the contract just to install the electrical upgrades from the incandescent to the LED LED lighting that will be um computer controlled. So once again, it's just our continued commitment to an all-encompassing and comprehensive uh education program and this time
the odd is getting some well-needed upgrades. >> Okay. With that, we have a motion by Carrie, second by Christian. All in favor? I. Opposed? Abstain? Motion carried. Item G, we have our approval of our acceptance of our penny transactions. So we need a motion to approve our penny transaction procedure. >> Motion by Dale. >> Second by Carrie. Are there any questions? All in favor? >> I. >> Opposed? Abstain? Motion carried. Item H is our budget transfers um that Karen put together to move money from here to there to make sure everything works. So, we need a motion to approve the budget transfer. >> Motion by Brad. >> Second by Chad. Are there any questions? All in favor? >> Aye. >> Opposed? Abstain? Motion carried. Item I is our school calendar for our 2026-2027 school year.
So, we need a motion to approve that. >> Motion by Tracy. >> Second by Christian. Are there any questions on the calendar? All in favor? >> Aye. >> Opposed? Abstain? Motion carried. All right. Item J is our agreement for our Regional Information Centers of New York RISC 1 or 1 RISC Operations Center. So, we need a motion to approve that agreement. >> Motion by Gail. Second by Kiernan. Are there any questions? All in favor? >> Aye. >> Opposed? Abstain? Motion carried. Item seven is our personnel consent agenda. Item A is our personnel action one. And we also have our item B, which is our personnel action for our summer program teachers. We have personnel action three, which is our summer summer athletic camps teachers. Then we have number four, which is our summer STEAM camp
teacher. Number five is our summer STEAM Adventure Water Camp Coordinators. And number six is our summer school. Number seven is our school counselor intern. And item H is an approval of all of 1 through 7. We need a motion to approve the personnel actions and sub items 7. >> Motion by Tad. >> Second by Dale. Are there any questions on any of them? All in favor? >> Aye. >> Opposed? Abstaining? Motion carried. And do we have anybody who want to introduce? >> We do, but I just wanted to make a quick note that we just appointed well over 70 individuals for summer program. If you look through those. Um and you won't find a school district in Western New York that has a broad and as extensive of a summer program that we do here.
Um and at the same time each one of those names that we just approved has an incredible amount of paperwork that goes along. So I just wanted to acknowledge our HR department for everything that goes into that. Our admin staff for hiring and of course our teachers for coming out to uh do the work. Um but we do have some exciting things tonight. Um we have two individuals who have reached the benchmark of tenure. So I will turn it over to Mrs. Berry. >> All right. So ladies over there. Um we are here tonight to recognize Angelina Nina Rendazzo for tenure in her role as a 7th grade English language arts teacher. Over the years Nina has consistently shown a strong commitment to her students, to colleagues, and our school community. Nina does an excellent
job in instilling a love of reading in our 7th grade students. She is thoughtful in her selection of novels, often choosing texts that reflect students' interests and spark curiosity. She builds on these selections by creating engaging, creative, and collaborative lessons that invite students into meaningful conversations about what they're reading. The result for students are active participants in class discussions and take ownerships of their learning. Nina is always positive with students and works hard to support them both academically and socially. She takes the time to check in with students, offer encouragement, and provide help when they need it. She frequently stays after school for tutoring and makes an effort to attend student sporting events and extracurricular activities. She's also a strong presence beyond the classroom. Regularly supports school community by helping with family engagement events. She
took the initiative to start a cursive club part of our extended day program in the middle school. Ms. Findazzo is a collaborative and supportive member of our seventh grade team. She works well with her colleagues contributes positively towards the team. She's always willing to support others when needed. Based on her consistent performance, her dedication to her students, and her contributions to our school, I highly recommend Angelina Findazzo for tenure, confident she'll continue to have a positive impact on our >> You have a speech? >> No, I'll give a straight forward one. I know as an English teacher I can be wordy. Um but just thank you all for this opportunity. I really love working here and I hope to work here for a long time. >> Thank you. >> Welcome. And a cursive club, that
is cool. >> I know, but we worked it into the seventh grade homework packet this year. So hopefully they'll all know how to do cursive. >> Yeah, at least uh maybe how to read it. >> Yeah. >> My uh yeah. >> They can all sign their name. >> All right. What I want to know is who's going to start a uh clock reading club? >> Exactly. >> Instead of giving them their analog clocks. >> Yeah. >> We can leave that to the math teachers. Maxine for her tenure in her role as a seventh grade science teacher. During her probationary period, Emma has consistently proven herself to be a dedicated, reflective, and student-centered educator who is a strong asset to our school. Emma works closely with her grade level team and the science department to plan
and deliver engaging, hands-on lessons and labs that spark curiosity and actively involve students in their learning. She collaborates openly, shares ideas, and contributes positively to student professional growth and student academic achievement and student outcomes. She's committed to her own professional growth and strengthening her practice. Emma regularly attends professional development opportunities to deepen her content knowledge, and she takes part in vertical alignment meetings with the high school science department to ensure that instruction across grade levels is aligned and that students are well prepared for future coursework. One of her greatest strengths is the relationship she builds with her students. She takes the time to support them both academically and personally, frequently staying after school to help students who need additional support. She is also often seen at student after school events, demonstrating her commitment to being
present and supportive beyond the classroom. Emma contributes meaningfully to our school culture and instructional program. I'm confident that she will continue to grow in her role and be a positive and dependable presence for our students' families. Congratulations, Emma. >> Hello. So, I um thank you all for the opportunity to have been part of your family here. I've made some amazing connections with students and I can't wait to watch them grow and see where they go. >> Sounds good. Welcome. Congratulations. We do have a couple other new um employees. Usually, there's not as many faces for me to find them, but I don't think they're here or online. So, when I see them, I'll make sure we welcome them to the Warrior family. >> Okay. All right, next we'll move on to our board information reports
and discussion. We have our enrollment figures. Uh we have our capital projects phase four and five summary report, and then our upcoming event. Our big upcoming event again is the budget vote on May 19th, so please come out and vote. Um and then our next Board of Education meeting is May 26th, uh followed by June 9th and June 23rd, and those will all be held right here. And with that, I need a motion to adjourn. >> Motioned by Dale, seconded by >> Kristen. All in favor? >> Aye. >> Opposed? Abstain? Motion carried. Thank you all for coming tonight. And hope everyone has a great night. Go Warriors, go Sabers.
