and I am here to present the Adam Hulk Camp Memorial Scholarship I would like to start off by saying a few words about Adam Adam was a Greensburg graduate in 2005 he was a farmer in decar County his entire life his passion knowledge and versatility for all things agriculture was impressive he gained a degree in a systems management from Purdue University in 2009 he worked for several years as a manager at at Premier egg in St Paul and here in Greensburg and held a position as an account manager for an agriculture software company that allowed him to travel the country all while working on his family's Farm one of his favorite jobs on the farm was hauling cattle to Nebraska in his Kenworth occasionally with our dog Brantly in the passenger seat spending hours catching
up with his buddies on the CB radio as he drove he even coined his basement Gathering space after this the bull hauler Saloon in 2016 Adam and his father took a leap of faith and established their own Farm together hul Camp family land and livestock as his wife I experienced all of the dedication hard work and faith that Adam put into all things agriculture Adam's life ended far too soon in January of 2021 at the age of 34 while completing his his routine morning chores on our farm Adam was incredibly intelligent talented and capable in many Arenas he had goals that were as high as the sky though he measured success a little differently than most his success was rarely measured in dollars he measured his success in the smiles on the faces of our
daughter and nieces during their trips to the river in the semi to deliver grain he measured it in the anticipation and excitement he had for teaching our son all he knew and loved about farming and he measured it in working with his father building their legacy and living out their dreams together he certainly didn't have it all but by his measures his life was incredibly successful agriculture is vital to the future of this county country and the world agriculture needs individuals that are leaders Innovative Risk Takers and can think outside of the box in a world that continuously expect expects us to do more often with less working in agriculture takes a broads set of skills and knowledge an ability to be flexible and often think quickly and an obvious willingness to get your hands
dirty this scholarship was established as a way to support youth with these very special qualities in Decor County honor Adam and give back to a community that has given so much love and support to my family and that we're proud to be a part of I want to thank the de the decor County Community Foundation for their help and support making this scholarship possible the past 3 years I want to thank all of the scholarship applicants reading the essay responses on what agriculture means to them brings an immense amount of joy to my heart heart and reminds us of the deep meaning love and respect of agriculture in Adam's life I do want to mention that our scholarship does hold a fundraising event which is a Jeep and sidebyside ride that we call Adams fundr
run this year our event will be Sunday June 23rd and starts and ends at the INX BG Hall last year was our first event and we had approximately 120 vehicles that participated with lots of family fun at the hall following the ride if you're interested in further information about this year's event please visit our Facebook page Adams funr run I'm pleased to say that the total amount that our scholarship has been able to distribute to recipients has increased each year it has been awarded and we are happy to be able to award two scholarships countywide this year primarily from the efforts of this event the event also ensures that we will be able to honor Adam and support youth through this scholarship for many many years to come our scholarship application includes an essay question
what does agriculture mean to you I was very touched by this recipient's response it was certainly from the heart and felt very aligned with a response I feel could have come from Adam himself I believe that this recipient can make a difference has a bright future and can do great and important things for the agriculture Community he has been a leader for agriculture during his high school career and I am sure that will continue through various avenues for years to come I am happy and privileged to award the Adam Hol Camp Memorial Scholarship to Justin B [Applause] I'm Sarah on par I'm Sarah helck uh ironically I'm awarding a scholarship for the Greensburg United Methodist Church and it's for a nursing scholarship in the amount of $1,062 and the recipient is Emma leap [Applause] good
morning everybody uh my name is Ethan elders and I'm very excited to be here today um on behalf of the Chrisi elridge Memorial Scholarship Foundation to be giving out our annual award to one of you graduating seniors here today um for those of you who don't know my mom christaf was uh actually a student at North cator High School just down the road uh while she was at North cater she was uh a diligent student she was a a fierce competitor in uh North CER Athletics and she was also very very proud of her involvement in her Local 4 club uh where she was actually the first woman to be awarded the Tom Swain award for animal Showmanship uh shortly after her time at North catar her and my dad who was actually a student
here at Greensburg High School uh went on to Purdue University together where she got her undergraduate degree in social work and then later went on to the University of Pittsburgh to get her her master's degree in social work with the helps of uh coming back to Greensburg and being a uh a family therapist and uh ideally going back to to to North cater and coaching women's sports there um shortly uh after uh receiving her her master's degree um we moved back to Indiana um after moving around a little bit before that actually and um my mom was uh diagnosed with with cancer unfortunately at the beginning of the summer of 2004 and before we were actually able to move back here to Greensburg um as a family she passed away um at the age of
of 33 and um she had some very good family friends uh some of which are here today um who decided to start this Memorial Foundation as a way of honoring her memory by giving out a scholarship each year uh one to a student here at Greensburg high school and one at North CER High School um and uh we look to give the scholarship to students who have a very similar dedication to their schools and to their communities uh my mom loved the community of Greensburg uh she obviously as a a social worker and a family therapist was uh very dedicated to its young people who are the future of this community and uh I'm sure if she was still here today she would um likely be coaching women's sports at North Gator and uh would
be here instead of me giving out the scholarship to to one of you bright young people um and so it is with great honor that I present this year's award for the chrisen Nai ELD Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $1,000 to a um brilliant student to a proud member of the Greensburg community and to somebody I've been hearing um quite a bit about this morning and that is emite congratulations good morning and congratulations class of 2024 my name is Amy Bray this is my husband Larry uh and we are honored to be here tonight to present the calling Bray Memorial Scholarship in memory of our daughter she also graduated from Greensburg Community High School in 2019 it's been 2 years since Colleen passed in a car accident on her way to work she packed
a lot of living in those 21 years she was already an accomplished dog groomer a successful small business owner and she was planning her wedding I'm going to share we're going to share a little bit information with you about colen for two reasons one we're just incredibly proud of her and her story story and her story is unlike uh not unlike many other young people today so we're hoping that her story resonates with some of you and provides some guidance in folk all of Colleen's lives she loved animals humans were complicated for her but animals just made sense she had a way with all animals especially dogs um she would sit on the floor with a a dog that may have been aggressive or or scared and she would just sit with them and meet
them where they were she was so patient and kind and before too long the dogs were licking her face and rolling over for belly reps she was truly gifted in that way however in high school she really struggled academically even with all the love and support from home in school she lacked interest in nearly all subjects in high school she failed to connect any return on the investment she was being asked to make in her studies of course this was frustrating to her parents um Larry and I worried and wondered about what her future would look like without a traditional college education for us we prayed about it a lot and one day it finally clicked Colleen's potential couldn't be measured on a report card Colleen had impeccable work ethic she was an Unapologetic advocate
for Animals she was patient and nurturing she had passion it just wasn't in school so once we got it we started to see her path and so did she she not only got excited about her future she began to flourish and within 2 years of graduating high school she completed a dog rooming certification she opened and operated her own small business and she had a very long list of very satisfied customers who loved her some may be in the room today one day she said to me Mom I can't believe I get paid to play with dogs all day I looked at her in amazement because I realized in her short 21 years Colleen had already figured out what most of us don't figure out in a lifetime she found a p passion and she
figured out how to get paid for it we all know that when you do what you love you never work a day in your life and that's one of the keys to happiness therefore the calling gray Memorial Scholarship is a little different than most it doesn't include academic requirements this scholarship is open to anyone who resides in decar county and is willing to use their god-given talents and passion to help animals in some way that shares callings genuine and Unconditional Love of Animals students and adults alike are eligible to apply for the scholarship because not everyone realizes their full potential before they're 18 Colleen scholarship is managed by the decater County Community Foundation and our applicants range from students pursuing a doctorate in vet veterinary medicine to vocational students learning V Tech dog ging dog
training and animal behaviors to adult entrepreneurs trying to start an animal wfl business and we know Colleen would want to support all of these Endeavors because the real winners are her beloved animals with all of this being said it is with much pleasure that we're able to present this $1,000 scholarship to a Greensburg student who embodies Colleen's love of animals and we're proud to award this scholarship to Shelby AEL [Applause] good morning nice to see all these smiling faces out here wasn't that long ago 1967 I was also sitting in the Greensburg High School auditorium seats wondering if these people would ever quit talking and just get this all done right but I'm here to tell you a bit of a story about the scholarship that b and I have put together over the years
