001Yeah. [Applause] Uh, hi. My name is Riley Spears. I'm here with our head basketball coach, Mr. Simpson. Uh, I've just got a couple of questions to ask you about the upcoming season. Ask away. Uh, how do you feel about the upcoming basketball season? Uh, really excited about it. We've got a tremendous group this year. Got a lot of youth and inexperience, but it's inexperienced that's got talent. We they are a group that um shows up every day ready to work and get better. And it's a group that you can tell truly enjoys playing together, which I think is gonna play well into the success that we have this year because they all get along so well and that translates into success on the floor, too. All right. Um tell me about some of the uh

002returning players that we have this year. Okay. We start with uh a senior Sarah Stap and then junior Carly Adams. And from there, we have uh I don't want to miss anybody. We've got four sophomores, uh Leah West, Kayla Tam, and Emma McQueen. And then a fourth sophomore, Miley Wilkinson will unfortunately miss most if not all of this season with a knee injury, but only being a sophomore. We hope that uh she's able to bounce back and continue with the success that she had her freshman year. Um looking at the schedule, what do you think will be some good games to watch this year? Well, all of them, of course, but I'm biased. But, um, uh, we we play an incredibly tough schedule for our area. We've got a bunch of 4A teams on our

003schedule. We know of at least three teams that have missed basketball candidates on their roster. Uh, one that's fairly close is Josie Treyel at East Central. She's a senior and um she will be playing division 1 basketball and she is going to be a candidate for miss basketball. Just here in a couple of weeks we will travel to Jennings County. They have a junior Julian Woodard who will be an Indiana all-star Miss Basketball candidate. And then we play new PAL possibly twice this year and they have a senior point guard who will be uh in the conversation at least for Miss Basketball and multiple other 4A teams up and down the schedule. And then even some of the smaller schools we play year in and year out have a lot of returning people and they

004they've got a tradition of success. You know, we play Jacksonell to open the season this coming Friday and they've won a state title in the last 5 years. So, even though at they are at the 1A level, team that always is a great way for us to start. All right. Well, that's all we've got for you, coach. Thank you for your time. Hey, anytime. Welcome to Greensburg High School for the girls basketball match up between the Lady Pirates versus the Lady Eagles. I'm Sam West here with Kai Dyer. Kai, what do you know about this team? How you guys doing tonight? Uh, Jacksonell looks like a solid team. Uh, Greensburg, we got one returning senior, U Sarah Stap. She's already proven that experience. Reigns superior as she's been very vocal in practice, showing underclass in

005the robes. Her leadership skills will probably help keep the Pirates poised. Sam, what else we got from the Lady Pirates? Uh, I think overall they're just a really young team. Uh, so we'll have to see how they gel here in this first game. I agree. What do you know about these Lady Eagles? Uh, honestly, not much. Um, I know that they have I think their best player is Reagan Hughes, number 24. And although I think they lost a couple seniors last year, so I think also their team is pretty young, so should be a pretty match, pretty good matchup. Uh, we will step away here for the national anthem. We shall be back. [Applause] and your Greensburg Lady Pirates. In the spirit of sport, we ask that all fans act responsibly and courteously to those

006around you. Abusive language or disorderly conduct is unacceptable and unwelcomed at IHSAA events. Let's floor the student athletes, coaches, officials, and your fellow fans the respect they deserve. Your cooperation is appreciated. Now, if you would please rise and remove your hats as seniors Kylie Simpson and Macy Smith sing our national anthem. Can you see by the dawn early so proudly we held at the twilight stripes and bright stars through the [Music] fight or the [Music] Gently [Music] bursting in prole [Music] for the land of the home of the brave. [Applause] Welcome back. Number 24. Currently meeting our Jacksonell Lady Eagles starters. Number 22, Julia Meyer. The Lady Eagles are coached by Scott Smith. Focus on the fundamentals. Most important winning behind my book, we're going to be winners. [Music] All right, congregation on your feet.

007It's the noise inside the starting line for your lady. Starting over 61 sophomore number 42 [Applause] junior number 44. Number 12 starting at car 5.6man Sixman number 14. Another part of fire number 202. [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] And we are underway here to get this game started. You guys heard the starters for both squads. Looks like Leo West is set to tip off for the Greensboro Pirates and number 32 Kayn Hers for for Jackson Dell. And like we said, Jacksonell is also a young team. They have one senior. That is it. Number 40. And the Lady Pirates will retrieve the ball. [Applause] Looks like uh the Eagles are in a half court pressure. Adams in the corner for three. It's off the mark. Leah West at the top and she travels. [Applause] We got to

008get her under control soon. So Pirates get offensive rebound and turn it over right away. It's not how you want to start a game. Emma McQueen up pressing as the Lady Eagles bring the ball up. Very good defense. Maybe a 5-second count. And it is turnover Lady Eagles. [Applause] Eagles are still in a half court press. Mary Harmon bringing up the ball. Adams in the corner. Back to Harmon at the top over to McQueen. Leah West working on the post. Puts it up and it's off the mark. Red Eagles pushing the ball and a good block. That's the freshman Alli Powers and the Eagles will take it out underneath their own basket. [Music] close to not getting the ball in. Turning it over and McQueen still very good defense out of bounds. Lady Pirates ball.

009Mary Harmon set to bring the ball up. Eagles again with somewhat of a half court pressure. Leah West gets to the post. Euro step left hand. Basket by West. That's a good move by Leo West. Eagles pushing the ball up the floor. Almost throw it away. [Applause] Mary Hman forces a jump ball and the Eagles will inbound the ball underneath their own basket once again. They get it into the post [Applause] and Leah West and one. What a move by Leah West. That was a great pass great pass by I believe 14 Mary Harmon finished through contact West last year was a 45% or excuse me 52% free throw shooter. Eagles sub number 20 and Sophia Sophia Sullivan she's on the floor now. Reagan Hughes bringing up the ball. Eagles working the ball around the

010three-point line. Very good pressure by the Lady Pir Pirates so far. [Applause] Lady Pirates now pushing the ball. Good pass, good kick out and off the mark for Mayor Harmon. [Applause] Some great hustle by Emily McQueen there. And it it is the Eagles ball. [Music] Looks like a 30 second timeout will be called by the Eagles. 4-0 Pirates have the lead so far. Sam, what do you think the Eagles need to do better? Um, I think probably just keep up the uh intensity. Uh, I think the way the Eagles will win is just in a sloppy game like it's been getting turnovers. I agree. And I'd say the opposite for the Pirates. They need to control the ball and have a clean offense. I agree too. Eagles uh if they keep pushing the ball like

011they are and back the Pirates up, they should be just fine. But great defense so far by the Pirates. A lot of pressure and force some key turnovers here early in the game. Number 22, Julia Meyer set to take the ball out here. And then McQueen applying pressure. Eagles working the ball around. Still great pressure by the Pirates. Almost forced a jump ball there. Pull up three. Wet. [Applause] That's a nice three-point basket off the dribble there by the late Eagles. Harmon bringing the ball up. Kicks it to Powers and Carly Adams will take a three in the corner and off the mark. Leah West with the offensive rebound. And what a move. Good post move. I don't think Coach Simpson's going to be complaining about Carly Adams three-point shot. Her three-point shot was not

012terrible last year. Her field goal percentage was uh 46.7. So, not bad. And her three-point percentage is 33%. That's pretty good three-point. Eagles set to take the ball out on the side. 14. Uh, would be an offensive illegal screen, I guess. Foul number 40, Olivia Neil. Her first team second. And the Eagles in a threequarter court press gets it to Leah. Kicks it out to McQueen in the corner. Great pass. Wide open three and shot. Great ball movement by the Pirates. That's exactly what they need to do. Get the ball middle of the floor and then kick opposite. Yeah, if they can do that off the mark from the Eagles. 14. Kelsey Bergman chucks up a layup. Pirates slowing it down a little bit. Well said. Kind of in a pickle here. They drive it

013to the corner. That's not what you want to do in a press like this. Eagles almost forced a turnover. Eagles, I believe, are in a half court kind of zone defense. Savannah Steel comes in for Olivia Neil. I think the key for the Pirates here is get the ball to the middle of the floor. Draw the double team in the middle and kick it out for a wide open three. Again, number four, who just came in for the Eagles, also a sophomore, so also the bench is young. And that'll be a travel by Leah West. Travel. Got the ball to the middle floor. Leah just can't travel. McQueen with the one-on-one pressure once again. And number 24 Reagan Hughes with a move to drop McQueen and get to the basket for a foul. She will

014shoot two free throws. 42 West her first team. That was a good move. Got to the basket, drew a foul. First free throw is up and it is good. Hughes 58 Jr. seems to be kind of the leader of this team indeed. Number 22 Alif Powers bringing the ball up. Almost forces a turnover. working the ball around. Eagles still in the press. Kicks at the corner. Mary Hardman. Oh, another good pass. Carly Adams. Good shot. That's exactly what the Pirates need to do. Get the ball the middle four and kick it out. Nope. Move the ball like that. Leg close out. Drive to the middle and kick. Perfect. Ev McQueen still applying pressure here. [Music] Oh, and that'll be a travel by number four for the Eagles. Number 32, Kayn back in the Eagles. 32

015Kayn Hunters in for the game. Subs in for number 14, Kelsey Borgman. Also a sophomore. She will sit. Hearts working the ball around early. Get it to the middle of the floor and Leah West gets fouled. Leo will get fouled on the floor. She's driving the ball to the basket. And that'll be on the floor though. Julia, her second team's third. Maned to Lee in the post. Also another good move and an easy bucket. Basket by West. Eagles pushing the ball up straight out of the giggle. Another spin move by number 24 Hughes. chucks up a layup and gets blocked. [Music] Leo West another bucket and forces a Jackson Bell timeout. That'll be a timeout by the Eagles. That is another 30 second timeout. And I think you can't leave Leah one open one-on-one in

016the post. Yeah, Eagles need to get back on defense. They're forcing turnovers on the offensive side and then just not spring back and it's an easy bucket for the Lady Pirates. I think the the Pirates are doing a really good job of kind of defeating that that zone defense and uh kind of seems like they're just the Eagles on offense are doing just a lot of one-on-one. Yeah, I think the pressure by the Lady Pirates is getting them to do that which is exactly where they want them. So, great job by the Pirates. Yeah, the Pirates in a man man offense or man defense. [Music] And McQueen set to apply more pressure here as the Lady Eagles take out the basketball. 1650 with about 3 minutes left in the first quarter. Jacksonville with three fouls.

017Lady Pirates with two fouls. So we got fouls to give. And a great help defense by Alli Powers. She's going to take it and push the floor out. Pirates are going to slow down kind of here. Cars another three. Yeah. Off the mark and that'll be off the Eagles Pirates basketball. Great job by Leah getting the tip in there and then forcing the Eagles to hit it out of bounds. We got number 10 Carmen in for your Pirates in for um Emma McQueen. Inbound to Ali Pir. She misses it. Leah West, great board, jump ball. It'll be Pirates basketball. I think it's kind of clear that the Pirates have a size advantage here. Kind of dominating the post right now. Mary Harmon off the marks from three. Another offensive rebound for the Pirates and a

018foul. I believe Carmen Thcker will shoot three [Applause] number Sophia Sullivan for first team. Jacksonell fourth foul Carmen Zachary a freshman and hits the first one. And Carmen drains a second. She'll have one more. [Applause] Sarah Stap will come in for Leah West. Leah West has had a great start to her this basketball game. Yeah, she'll take a seat and I'm sure she'll be uh right back into the game. Just a quick breather. And Carmen attacker hits the third free throw. Eagles doing a great job pushing the ball, but Pirates defense oh points per game last year as a freshman. So she led all the Pirates in scoring and she was also voted as an all EIAC uh player freshman. So that was definitely a big loss. She's very athletic, very quick, very aggressive. But

019as of now, the Pirates seem seem to not have a problem without her. I think they're doing a great job. So again, great pressure by the Pirates. And another steal. Carly Adams knocks it away. And Mary Harmon will take the ball up the floor. Kick it to Adams. Back out to West. Fast kick. Almost knocked away. And the Pirates will slow down. Get in his own offense. Kick out to a three. Carmen Zachary off the mark. Leo West with the offensive rebound. Mary Harmon three. No good. I think that is her second three of the night as she misses it again. I think she just need to keep shooting. See one falls. I mean that's not a bad shot off an offensive rebound. Wide open shot. Oh yeah. Just couldn't come up with it that

020time. Ali Powers back in for number 10 Carrie. And the Eagles will inbound the ball underneath their own basket. Looks like they're in a stack here. They get it in the middle of the post. Alli Powers comes in and gets a block right away. She's going to push it up the floor to Leah. Back out to Adams. Leah West. Another three and off. Mary Harmon. Great board. As she would drive baseline, take it to the hoop. A good take. Couldn't come couldn't come up with the finish. Emma McQueen. Great defense right here again. And a steal. That's great defense. Emma McQueen. It's a great play indeed as her defense has been great all game. She continues to show. Leah West putting some pressure out. That is a and Emma McQueen gets a tip out of

021bounds. Eagles ball. McQueen has really high motor, high intensity on defense. West has missed, I believe, all of her three-point shots, but I think her her play inside has made up for it. Indeed. I like to see her out here getting pressuring these guards as she is not known to be a guard. number 40 with a great drive to the basket, finishes with a right hand. 33-9 your Pirates. Mary Harmon pushes it up and Leah in the post can't get it. Gets the offensive rebound. Can't get it again. And Alli P with the rebound and another one and that's off the Eagles. Pirates ball. Great job there by the Pirates. Mary Harmon will inbound the ball. Looks like they're in a box set here to Leah. Little handoff play and Leah with another pro move.

022I think you can definitely tell she's improved on her touch in the offseason. I think a lot of times she would force things. She's had some great finishes today. And the bucket number 24. Reagan Hughes gets the foul. Bucket is good. She will shoot one free throw. Fuse at the line. Number 10 Carmen Their in for number 20 Emma McQueen as Emma McQueen played some crucial minutes there with some great defense and she will sit and take a breather. And number 24, Hughes will miss her for free throw. West with the ball, kicks it to Carmen factory. Pump fakes, drives baseline and kind of throws that one up. Another offensive rebound and one basket by West. She's too little. He's been playing great on the inside. Let's see if she can make the free throws.

023Good offensive rebound. way to crash the boards there by Leah West. Um, and also to finish with all those Lady Eagles there in the paint, but still able to finish in the face. And the free throw is good. There you go. All right. And the Pirates get another steal with the turnover from the Eagles. And they get another layup. 4011 your Pirates. Eagles also pushing the floor. And Butterfingers misses the ball. And Pirates get a little out of control there. But it will stay this way. Possession error also to the Pirates. [Music] Looks like there's a wet spot on the floor. Ref's trying to dry that up. Pirates in another box set here. See what comes out of it and Adam drives the ball. Pull up the mark. Great job by Sarah Staff crashing the

024boards there. She doesn't get defense by Harmon with the steal pass to Powers and that was a travel. It's about the sixth one of the game. number 32 or seven and maybe eight, but I think uh that the these Lady Eagles and Lady Pirates just need to slow things down, get their feet set, and I think they're going a little too fast, but number four will bring the ball up for the Eagles. Some great pressure by 12 Stap. Great tip there by Ali. [Music] Powers in and a travel, make it nine. Like I said, I think they just need to slow it down. And Leah West coming in for Sar Staff. Sarah Staff did a great job while she was in. She'll take a breather. I think they were missing West out there on the

025boards. 24. Hughes takes the ball up the floor. Crosses over. Great kick out. Wide open shot for the Eagles off the mark and an offensive rebound. But they will I mean come on. I think we're going to start keeping count here. That will be 10. Pirates working the ball around. Eagles still in their halfcourt press. Oh. Oh, [Music] another one. That will be number 11. Again, they're moving before they put the ball down. That is not allowed in basketball. You have to dribble, but that is all right. We'll figure it out. And uh number 24 bringing the ball up. Pass it to the corner. Number 40 Neil outside hands off to number 14. A gamble there by number 10 which forces a layup which is missed. Rebound pass. Just couldn't finish on that one. Pirates

026look to push the floor and decide to slow it down. Maybe look for one shot at the end of the quarter. Easy drive there. Way to crash the board by number 14 Harmon and Carly Adams off the mark. Another offensive rebound for the Pirates. Powers will put it up and good. She is having a great game so far. [Applause] 30 seconds left in the first half here. Eagles have the ball. Working it around. Hughes will take a deep three. That's off the mark and an offensive rebound. Another one. Another one. and Harmon rip it right out. Leo West. That's another one. Bet is number 12. for the Lady Pirates. Five. Oh, a steal. Maybe another buzzer beater at the end of that. [Applause] 0.9 seconds left in this half and they will just call it

027out. 4211 your Lady Pirates leading right now. We will step away for halftime. [Applause] [Music] [Applause] Second car USB 95 South 915 South traffic with injuries. [Music] Born out faces bright and early for the daily races goinghere. The tears are filling up their glasses. No, no. I want to drown my sorrow. [Music] tomorrow. And I find it kind of funny. It's a very very [Music] bad world. [Music] This is the 28th day of August and um we are here today. Uh the defendant in this cause of

029action has been found guilty by a jury of uh operating motor vehicle while intoxicated, causing death in two counts. We're here today for sentencing. Sir, under Indiana law, you have the right to make a statement. Is there anything that you want to say? I didn't mean to. Well, sir, let's get something straight. Nobody ever means for this to happen. You're not being punished today because you meant for this to happen. What you're being punished for is you took a risk when you drank alcohol and got behind the wheel of that car. You took a risk that the worst possible scenario would not happen. And it did. Two people lost their lives because of the risk you took. That's what you're being punished for today. Your sentence is eight years with the Department of Corrections on

030count one, eight years with the Department of Corrections on count two [Music] Welcome back. It's been a interesting game here. First game for both teams, I believe. Indeed. 42 to1 Pirates lead. If you didn't know, we need four more points for a running clock. How many travels we have? Uh 13. 13, I believe. My bad for the uh chewing. Had to finish some M&M's before the half in. But we are all good now and we're set to go for the second half here. Pirates have the ball. Quinton set to inbound to Harmer. Eagles back in their half court zone and obviously did not work to start out the half as the Pirates score pretty easily there. Good pass, good layup by Carly Adams. Baseline drive number 143 and Eagles maintain one. That's a bad close

031out by number 42. Interesting pass there. It worked out. And West, her touch this game has just been impeccable. And Eagles working the ball around here. Not much pressure by the Pirates so far. And bad pass leads to almost an Eagles turnover and missed layup and one. Number 40, Neil will shoot one basket by Neil. Fouls number 14, Mary Herman. Her first team's first in the second half. [Music] I don't know what happened in that locker room at halftime, but Eagles looked uh they look really good coming out of the locker room here. Seven minutes left in the third quarter. Powers hanging the ball up the floor. Gives it to McQueen. [Music] Baseline drive. Great pass. Great shot. Also just a little short. Coach Simpson will not be mad by that shot. Good hands. The

032Eagles get the ball back. Blocked by Leah West and tipped out of bounds by Leah West. for the Eagles basketball under their basket. Eagles inbounding underneath their own basket. Kicks it out to Neil. Middle of the floor. Neil has it. She's going to face up. Pump fake. Drives and a push called on the Pirates. Foul number 42, Leah West for second. That'll be two fouls so far by the Pirates. And it's just a minute and a half into this second half. So, [Applause] I think that will be a moving screen. Foul number 42. Pirates will take the ball out with Harmon bringing it up the floor. Foul number 32. Kaylin Hiner is her first team's first in the second half. Pirates moving the ball around, slowing it down. The West gets stopped. May Harman driving

033middle of the floor. Kick out the McQueen mid-range jumper and it's good. Great shot by McQueen who last year field goal percentage was 33%. It's good offense from the Pirates. Very good. Great defense by Leah West. Stops it, but needs to needs a block out there. And luckily they get the ball the floor. Euro. And it's good. Basket. That'll be a timeout. 30 second timeout by the Pirates. Maybe wants to give them a breather. 507 here. Pirates up 33. Don't need to force anything. Five and a half minutes left here. Some more to know about the Pirates. Carly Adams is also the only junior returning to the program. She had the best three-point percentage for the Pirates last season. And she was also the second leading rebounder under Leah West. So, [Music] great to see

034her out here back at it and doing what she does best. three ball and that is unfortunate. Great shot. I mean, not not a terrible shot there by 24 Hughes, but just came up short. You can see her attitude's affecting it a little bit. Just keep shooting that thing. The Pirates throw it away. Who threw that away? I think that was Leah West. It's a lazy pass. Don't know what she's doing there. Must have learned passing from her brother who's also not great at it. Yeah, throw a lot of picks. And Eagles working the ball around top here, Reagan Hughes. Oh, I think that's great defense. And a lot of ball screens just happening. And I think that'll be a moving screen by number 40 Neil Arts Basketball and McQueen taking it out with number

03514 Harmon bringing it up the floor once again. Savannah substitute for your Eagles number four. Savannah steel in for I believe number 32 who will take a seat. Still a 33-point lead for your Pirates. Leo West mid-range hit shot. Nothing but net and McQueen will get the ball back for the Pirates. Good pass and basketball [Applause] with a good drive to the basket. She'll draw a foul and shoot two. Pass number 44, Carly Adams from first team's third. Hughes at the line shooting two. I believe this is Hughes second or third time at the line. another west spot on the floor. They took care of that. And Hughes will shoot her free throw. Oh, first one rattles out. Number 10, Carmen checks in for the Lady Pirates. [Applause] Carmen Dacheri checks in. [Music] And Hugh

036second free throw is good. Number 20 Sullivan back in the Eagles. Sullivan subs in for Hughes. Tart's walking the ball up the floor in no hurry. Moving the ball pass. Great ball movement and a great shot by Carly Adams. Nothing percentage. Great start here for her. Build a lot of confidence for her first game. Jackson with another three and they get one to fall. 5721. Your Lady Pirates Pirates moving the ball around once again. Knocked away by the Eagles, but the Pirates get it back. Get to Leah in the middle of the floor. And that's an easy layup for Leah. Great power move there getting in between the defenders and picking it up with a soft touch. Great defense. way to wall there, but never mind. I believe they'll call a foul on the floor.

037Two substitutes for the Eagles here. Number 24, number 32. And number 22 and 40 are out. Oh, that'll be another foul on the Pirates, I believe, on West 42. See, just too little. That's what I was thinking. Gets it inbound on the baseline. Spin move by Hughes. Another foul called on Leah West. I think Leah's doing a great job showing her hands. A little bit out of position there. [Music] Number 13, Sarah Stap checks in for the Pirate. Oh, number 12. I'm sorry. Oh, bad defense by the Pirates there. But Eagles missed a free throw and they'll call travel on the Pirates. So, the Eagles will get it back. That's 14. 14 inbounding it. And another great slip. Screen and slip will do it there. Number 14 with the ball on the baseline. Hughes drives

038to the basket. Good drive and gets fouled. She will shoot two more free throws. Hugh heads to the line once again. Second, team seven. Meer back into [Music]
