002recently they opened the season with rushville with a win at home and they've also played triton central columbus north eastern greene roncalli franklin and yorktown and they come in to tonight's game with a record of three and four they're coached by john hartnett jr in his first year he's he's uh i'm sorry he's in his second year he took over in the middle of last season and he's five and 12 overall um and he uh he's proven to be a good young coach and we'll see how this matchup plays out tonight coach what do you think about greensburg and how they match up tonight well you know looking at greensburg coming off a uh overtime loss last night to connersville 42-49 and a hard-fought physical basketball game um and i believe this is the first
003time all year we're playing back-to-back games so you know that that could be a little bit of factor on our legs with as with as up and down and hard fought as last night was we have to keep an eye on that but the pirates right now are five and two with uh their loan losses to fishers and then like i said last night at connersville in overtime um you know but we did have a a win last saturday against columbus east and um we're sitting at five and two coach meyer is 272 and 79 in his 15th year here at greensburg and and 135 in his 20th year of coaching basketball so um you know obviously the experience goes to coach meyer i believe you have a little bit of insight about the shelbyville's
004coach uh that you know him relatively personally yeah i know i know him from a few years back just from my coaching experience and being able to coach him as a player he's an intelligent kid knows basketball and he'll he'll have his kids ready to play tonight for sure i i would anticipate shelbyville playing some zone trying to slow down our transition break it'll be a completely different style or a look of get of a game than it was last night i don't think that shelbyville matches up near as well with us uh from a man-to-man perspective but it doesn't necessarily mean that their zone won't slow us down and the one guy they're gonna have to look to take away is lightning sparks who's average in almost 30 points a game um they're going
005to have to figure out what how how they're going to defend him whether they chase him whether they face guarding or whatever the case may be so it'd be interesting to see how shelbyville tries to match up with the pirates tonight uh defensively and uh and then what adjustments we have to make from one night to another like you said with uh playing a different style of ball tonight against a different team um what that does to us and what it doesn't do to us but i will say it is great to see coach meyer back on the sideline um good to have him back and uh you know hopefully that's an uplifting thing for our pirates to get back on track tonight absolutely i think it will be important also to watch you know
006our legs you reference run a back to back night if you've watched the pirates throughout the season you know we don't play a lot of kids off the bench so there was five kids that had to play a lot of minutes last night and that might play itself out before we break away for the national anthem i do want to highlight some leaders on the shelbyville rosters on the shelbyville roster statistically we're going to start with a couple kids that are pretty close in scoring and scoring average yind number number three at 10.8 points per game and then sandman he also comes in at 10 points per game they're letting rebounds by sherwood number 10 at five rebounds a game and then assists per game and we come back to number three yen and then

008number 11 hunter hounchel number 15 jacob heaton and number 40 matthew button and here we go ready to tip off tip goes to the goal or goes to greensburg pirates sparks has it kicks it to cummer as the golden bear or the golden bear settle in his own walters looks inside sparks swings it kicks it to comer for three [Applause] three is good start right there good reversal over to colin on the wing for a three-point shot looks like uh shelbyville's going a little bit of a 3-2 zone to try to uh disrupt our flow pirates matched up and man-to-man here see how much they pressure the ball shelbyville running a dribble drive offense turns it over sparks picks it up and attacks slows it down skip pass to cummer comer takes it off the
009dribble skips it back walters for three take it out of the net it's good good good fast start there for the pirates things always look better when you make shots true story gold bears go back to their dribble drive offense deep deep shelbyville for three and it's good greensburg back the other way commerce skips it swinging around the horn again patience by the pirates turnover underneath good rotation by shelbyville there as hounshell steals it and brings it back for the golden bears sandman now starts the offense they dribble the corner heaton brings it to the top comes off the ball screen switch there nothing shelbyville shows some patience here and backs it out there's no doubt that shelbyville is going to try to limit the number of possessions here as they are not afraid to
010be deliberate and take their time in offensive possessions here do you see them trying to attack addison being a freshman why wouldn't they i i think i think as they look at chinks in the arm and what they're going to try to do i think that the pirates would or the golden bears would try to look at any opportunity they could um they're definitely number one going to be patient as they attack the middle of the floor and score two that's heaton heating on the dribble drive for two nice reversal extending that zone out to half court now i think that's an attempt to slow the transition offense more so trying to create pressure greensburg settles in swings it to stanley up to walters camera around sparks up and no good shelbyville with the rebound
011and now looks to slowly bring it up being very deliberate once again you got sandman who is a sophomore running the point for them other than that they are senior loaded as as shelbyville run a little bit of dribble weave and not afraid to pop up a ball a ball screen they keep going attacks brings it back out yen pulls up off the front no good comes up with the offensive rebound ball fake ball faking in official time official timeout 416 left here in the first quarter shelbyville up 7-6 showing a little token pressure greensburg settles in swings to comer comer at the top looks nothing there gets it in the middle brendan stanley for three no good tip rebound and rolls around and falls lane's first two points of the night averaging 27 on
012the season shelbyville back to the same offense notice how they attempt to have multiple ball reversals here's shelbyville attacks nothing there kicks it up to sandman he surveys looks kicks it to button salmon thought about it instead kicks it to the corner and heaton is good for three that is his fifth point on the day blocking foul called on on sandman as he's trying to cut off lane sparks there enter sandman with his first foul oh first uh 80s reference of the night let's just open the box up and let them all out is that 80s yeah i'm pretty sure early yeah that might be 90s you know what i digress addison barnes pet a nice strong finish his first two of the night i don't know if you're gonna get a better look than
013that shelbyville once again being very deliberate takes a peek dribbles around handoff be interesting to see if greensburg continues to switch that weave or if they ever mix it up and try to jump and trap it they they continue to switch and are content to do so notice how stanley's on the top cross up and no good by heaton greensburg pushes and we have a shuffling of the feet by cummer turnover out of bounds back to the golden bears it's good to hear stacy clapping on the sidelines yes shelbyville space up to heaton heaton tries to split not the greatest choice turnover greensboro comes the other way kicks it ahead walters to stanley and it is a foul on the floor to be out of bounds sandman second correct a lot of bounds of the
014pirates underneath their own bucket they're in a flat set here i wonder if there will be a flex screen in this set well didn't really need to run it and cummer from a couple steps outside the three no good good fire and sparks is able to handle it and finish 1 30 to go into first quarter pirates are up 12-10 shelbyville once again slows it down sandman picks his dribble up almost a turnover salmon secures it settles them down he appears to call for a ball screen button comes up tries nothing there salmon's forcing nothing they kick it out get it back tell you what the last two games brendan stanley has been playing really really well yeah he just battles he plays hard he does the he does the things that don't show up
015on the stat sheet and he's happy to contribute to the team i think players sometimes i think players sometimes underestimate how important those those things are like right there is a pressure outlet for lane as he's falling out of bounds pirates probably going to hold for one here ending the first quarter see if what type of set they run against this zone or if shelbyville tries to switch defenses here as we go the last seconds short corner from sparks no good offensive rebound by walters up and in and the shot is up whoa closer and i thought we closed the first quarter with the pirates up 14-10 you got uh sandman for shelbyville with three points and two fouls yeed with two points heaton leading the uh golden bears with five points for the pirates
016you got cummer with three sparks with four pettit with two and dakota walters leading the pirates in scoring with five well i think it was a solid start by both teams they're settling in a little bit i think the shooting percentages were also pretty good be interesting to see if shelbyville tries to give greensburg a little bit different look uh throughout the course of the game with their zone or if they match up at all yeah i think their their zone is effective enough right now to stay in it but uh be interested to see if you know if greensburg starts hitting a couple shots what the next step is for them greensburg has yet to try to really pressure the ball their man-to-man and a half court has been guarding to a step outside
017the three-point line one adjustment stacy may make is to come out and pressure them a little more and just find out how good a ball handlers they really are that might create some opportunities and transition offense if they can turn them over in shelbyville's backcourt 14-10 pretty comfortable with it we'll find out what adjustments are made and it should be shelbyville ball here to start the second quarter are you pretty good at running that possession arrow coach absolutely not okay shelbyville gives a similar look that they've been running all game flare screen there comes back off the ball screen notice there's a little bit more aggression in their dribble drive here greensburg continues to switch notice comers on the top and if they continue to switch cummer will stay on the top looks at it

019greensburg comes back in the middle of the floor swing it skip past the stringer he looks down to stanley sparks inside kick out walters thought about it keep running move it around comer for three might be time to get out of that zone fellas notice greensburg has picked up i thought that'd be an adjustment that stacey would make just to see if we could ratchet this up a bit they're running their white press where they run and jump out of a man-to-man look shelbyville gets a good look after a failed trap and pittman hits the three notice how the pace has picked up a little bit here coach on both sides picking up the pace and doing well with it we have a foul on the floor against sparks not the bonus yet the pirates

025this type of shooting for four quarters so i would i would caution our kids not to panic and just continue to play hard and and rebound and and defend fundamentally and and i'll just reference here that number 40 the big guy who's made two three-pointers tonight is eight to twenty on the season from three-point line eight of 20. so that's 40 yeah yeah yep so he is he's 100 tonight but 8-20 on here so he'd be 10-22 right now in the season eight of 20 over the course of seven games so he's making a little over one per game so yeah it's no fluke that he he can make a couple the last one he took he absolutely took in rhythm um caught it on his inside foot and spun and squared his shoulders and

034out of sync right this second they're down 38-39 here 4 30 to go in the third quarter shelbyville looks miss greensburg try to tries to help on this dribble drive 40 comes up relieves pressure kicks it back to number 11. yin has it he drill drives hard nothing there number 11 pulls up that kid's got a little bounce yeah he does and he is good with about the 15 foot jump shot his first two leaving shelbyville is up 41-38 coach meyer taking a quick full timeout it seems to me that that a lot of shelbyville's success is through the dribble drive getting into the paint having us collapse and either kicking out or finishing at the basket and a lot of that is is catching us on our switches and and we're not rotating quick
035enough to them at any point do you stop switching or you stay with it and just fine tune the fundamentals of it or what do you do on that i would think that i would think that if they're going to do anything that they would try to jump and trap it versus not switching i think the switching will allow them to be in a better position in general even though sometimes they do mix up right now i believe stacy is kind of challenging them to just you know be in a stance have better position have better effort and communicate if you notice on the defensive end i know that the sound isn't picked up but the pirates are quiet on the defensive end not a lot of talk and not a lot of communication defensively
036and they just have to decide how much they want to hear do you think any of that is fatigue oh yeah it absolutely could be um but um they can make excuses and they can be tired after the game is no that's probably a little hard hard on them but you know if they want to gut out a win they're gonna have to find ways to get it done barnes pettit's eighth point on the day so a good set there as as the pirates get a good look golden bears back to the bread and butter here doesn't surprise me that there wasn't a major adjustment made out of the timeout as coach meyer really just wanted to challenge them to be more fundamentally sound and also just be a little grittier tough shot there by

03945 to go in the third you know we're talking about adjustments stacy i don't feel that he will do anything drastic we are having a little difficulty defending it but remember we talked about how high a percentage shelbyville is shooting i don't think a drastic reaction here is necessary um if if shelbyville really starts shooting well and we get in the fourth quarter they may jump in traffic um see that that was excellent help there and now they didn't get anything out of it greensburg's just got to be sound yeah because the previous couple possessions heaton was able to get down to the block right create some dysfunction and you know those guys in the corner that are helping see that and you got to get the rebound yep good good play there by by
