001he [Music] he [Music] he [Music] he [Music] a [Music] he [Music] he [Music] he [Music] he [Music] this piing me up hello hello hello [Music] hello test test test test [Music] test test test oh I I got it a little bit [Music] he [Music] he [Music] he [Music] he [Music] he [Music] yeah what [Music] good evening everybody Welcome to Greensburg high school for this ihsaa basketball event between the visiting Fishers tigers and your Greensburg Pirates this is coach Jason Simpson joined by the man himself Mr Grant Peters getting ready to bring you some exciting high school basketball action Grant you don't get to say this much in today's day and age but this is actually the first time that these two schools have met on the hardwood and I think we're in for a good
002one absolutely I think they I think this this will be a really good matchup I I think the Pirates have shown that they're really strong but In fairness I'm not sure about their strength of schedule as far I think fers is going to prove to be a valuable opponent W it's interesting you say that fisers comes in with a 2-2 record they got the season off to a 2-0 start starting back on November 24th they were able to beat Ben Davis 75 to 49 then Muny Central came to town they came away fisers came away with a 95- 52 Victory their next two opponents Noblesville and shann andoa were postponed they didn't come back until December 18th when they hosted Hamilton Southeastern Hamilton of South Eastern was able to get the best of fishers with
003a 65- 51 Victory and then the game that everybody was talking about on December 22nd fisers traveled to number one Lawrence North and unfortunately for fisers they made Sports Center for all the wrong reasons they basically had Lawrence North beat on their home floor Lawrence North got a steal and thre one in from about half court banked it in made Sports Center's top 10 plays and then were able to go on and defeat Fishers in overtime 65 to 60 so they come in at 2 and two but like you said Grant they're rated number 16 in the Sagarin ratings and the Sagarin rating rates every school not just your class and strength of schedule and they come in with the 24th rated strength of schedule in all of Indiana yeah when they play in the
004metro area of Indianapolis they're going to see a quality opponent week in and week out you know I don't know if you saw the Highlight from the loss against Lawrence North but they had Lawrence North beat absolutely beat and Lawrence North made a couple plays made a couple threes and forced it into overtime and um too bad for Fishers but uh they that was a really quality opponent and I think fisers will put on a good show here tonight for the Pirates now not knowing their roster very well it is interesting to see because you're on the road at the number one team in the state so you can see maybe some nerves set in at the end of the game it's a game you think you've got one you're going to beat a quality
005opponent on the road but when you look up and down their roster they only play two seniors and it's led by a core of Juniors they they play actually five juniors in a sophomore to go along with two seniors so you're actually looking at a fairly young roster and they're LED in scoring by Jeffrey Simmons he's a junior he comes in averaging 16.3 points per game another Junior Bryce Williams comes in averaging 13 and and then a third junior Charlie Smith is their third double digigit score he comes in averaging 11 and then after that they've got four or five guys who get into the scoring column and we look at our own Pirates we talked about that strength of schedule the Pirates come in ranked number five and 3A spot that they've been pretty
006used to over these past six seven eight years the Pirates find themselves perennial top 10 team in class 3A but when you look at that strength of schedule as of right now the Pirates first four opponents put them at 27 nth in the state in strength of schedule so needless to say that it's an uptick in the strength tonight with fisers coming to town Pirates are LED in scoring as everyone expected and as he's come out and shown one of the top players we're not going to say just in the southern half of the state we're going to say one of the top players in the state of Indiana senior Lane Sparks comes in averaging 33.8 points per game and I think the most astounding thing about Lane and about him averaging that number of
007points is he does it shooting over 60% from the field each game I think I think that sums up the quality and the efficiency of his offensive play he attacks the rim so hard and then when he takes a perimeter shot he's taking a very quality look so either way he's taking a high percentage shot and offensively I would put him up against any other player in the state and Lane doesn't do it all by himself he he's joined in double digits by two Juniors Colin CER bout said Colin Ry another Colin Blast from the pass but Colin CER comes in averaging almost 19 points a game he's at 18.8 Dakota Walters who had to miss a game because just like everybody else got that that great contact tracing that we're all becoming I'm not
008going to say used to but we're just it just happens but Dakota comes in in three games he's averaging 13 points per game Brendan Stanley another Junior comes in he's tickling getting close to that double digit Mark he's at 8.3 points per game and then Kai Dyer comes in averaging 6 and2 points per game so both teams here come in looking to uh looking to kind of make their their their Mark you know teams like fisers don't normally get out of the Indie metro area very much so this is going to be a different brand of basketball for for our fans for sure I think our boys are probably pretty used to it with all of the aaou and travel ball and things that they play uh you're used to this but but what can
009Greensburg fans expect to see that we don't normally see outside the the Indie loop as they call it I think Fishers will come out and really try to pressure the basketball first and foremost I think that style of of pressure and that intense defensive presence is something that we don't see on a regular basis I I wouldn't be surprised if Fisher also tried to press us here and there just to see how good our guard play really is I know we started the broadcast with emphasizing Fisher strength of schedule but they're also going to have to handle our dynamic duo of CER and and Sparks and their scoring abilities I think it's going to be a challenge for Fishers to really shut them down so as these two teams go at it um and the
010strategy that goes along with it I think we're going to have a great game tonight and hopefully the Pirates come out on top and I think it's going to be fun to see you know we talk about how important laye and Colin are to the pirates and their scoring and the the success that they have those are two guys that in a game like this could end up doing even more than than what we're used to seeing them because they're they're used to seeing these highquality Defenders and these different types of athletes like we said in all of the the travel and things that they do through the year so you know even though Lan has had a couple of games in the high 30s and Colin opened the year with a game of 30
011you could see two guys again that that are able to go off and really showcase their skills tonight now fisers comes in led by secondy year man Garrett winegar he's at 2-2 at fisers 20-8 overall he actually got his first head coaching job last year at in central spent a year there and has now moved on to fisers Pirates are led by 15th year man Stacy Meer hard to believe he's been back home for 15 years now Stacy is 271 in and 77 in his 15th year at Greensburg 329 and 133 overall in his 20th year as a head coach looks like we're getting ready here as warm-ups wind down we're going going to be going into the national anthem I I think a stat that I find interesting also Grant you know Greensburg has
012two state titles to their name and so they're known for that but I think the more amazing thing is the quality basketball outside of that that they've been able to put together when you look over just the last since the start of the 2015 2016 season Greensburg is 104 and 25 Overall winning almost 81% of their games and then you you flipped out on on a headed and you got a girls program in that same amount of time that's 116 and 21 overall for fourth overall in the entire state so when you add that up there's some great quality basketball being played between the boys and the girls here at Greensburg High School our our fans have really had an opportunity to watch some successful teams the last few years we hope we can keep
013it going now I think we're going to step away here while we present the Kell in our national anthem with the of our naal [Music] for [Music] you guys their to e e e getting ready for tip off there starting lineups just announced starting for the Pirates as everybody could figure number 12 Colin CER number 14 Kai Dyer number 20 Lane Sparks number 32 Brendan Stanley and 34 Dakota Walters in for Fishers we have 33 Jeffrey Simmons he is their leading score 24 Charlie Smith 34 is Lucas puit 23 is Bryce Williams tip is controlled by Fishers into the hands of their point guard Charlie Smith Lane doing a good job pressuring the ball slipped to the basket there good find Simmons for two Grant just like you mentioned at the top looking to really
014pressure Lane and make his life difficult yeah they're going to find out how well he can handle it and if he can if he can score off that pressure in the half court offense good patient motion as everybody is used to by now with the Pirates I'm not surprised that fisers came out and matched them up manto man we'll have to watch and see how they adjust throughout the course of the game CER tries the right side brings it back to the middle skipped to the corner to Walters back out top to Colin good curl there by [Music] Lane Kai gets It reversed to the top Walters brings it back out to Dyer another nice curl by Lane you can see the double team comes quickly as soon as he catches it Kai with an
015unforced error there kept alive going to be stolen and turned back over there by fisers great Patience by the Pirates just have to make sure anytime that you get into the teeth of that defense that you're being decisive because you're going to get swarmed I think that's the longest offense The Possession we've had so far this season and that's probably a testament to Fischer's quality of Defense there to start the game Brenan gets into the lane takes it up that'll be missed rebounded there by 24 Smith brings it across the timeline kicks to the wing inside Simmons from about 12 I would say if that's their leading score Grant that's two easy ones already to get him started no doubt a first possession was a miscommunication on defense and the second one was a good
016play Lane gets into the middle of the lane able to score from the volleyball line makes our score four to2 fisers good patience here being shown by fisers as well they look to get inside drive there by Smith they're doing a great job of keeping keeping Simmons away from the ball and then next thing you know he Springs free and he's catching at 2 feet from the basket travel called there that's 34 Lucas puit with the travel turns it over to the Pirates 551 to go here in the first quarter Pirates Trail four to2 some more pressure deny off the inbound Lane kicks it out nice find there by Lane finds Dakota Walters who's able to knock down a three put the Pirates in front five to four that offense in transition may be the
017best shot that they get when they get it they need to take it Lane late rotating over good contest there by Bryan Simmons keeps his own shot alive stays with it good job by Bryan to battle inside then come away with that loose ball to Lane in the corner that's no good that's one that Brendan has to avoid he he is too important just defensively and with his hustle plays that's one that with a kid that's as big as Simmons with the inside position you can't afford to pick up cheap early fouls like that that's absolute truth we need Dakota on the floor as long as we can keep him Pirates lead five to four five minutes to go here in the first quarter ball screen set nice switch there good pressure being applied here
018early by the Pirates just some Mis miscommunication early on the backside it seems good patience good contest by Lane able to get his own rebound was Smith he misses two from Point Blank Range Lane gets all the way in they're going to say it wasn't tipped turnover Ball's going to fisers I don't know if you're a pirate fan you're kind of excited that fisers isn't hitting early but then you have to be a little worried because the shots they're missing are from point blank range and if that continues you got to think that water is going to find its level those are going to start dropping yeah I think both teams are showing a lot of patience on the offensive end and we'll have to see if the field goal percentage improves nice drive there
019that was 23 Bryce Williams and again that that shows the the struggles early so far for the Pirates Williams is just a straight line drive didn't do anything to shake his Man loose and is able to get to the rim ball reversed here to the right side to Dyer swings it to the top to lane lane drives in he's going to be fouled looks like that foul is going to go on number 21 Drew Turner that'll be his first teams first first sub of the game comes in it's going to be number five mil Stringer into the lineup pass stolen away there intended intended for lane two more layups missed there by fisers good contest on the second one by Brendan Colin with a good attack gets to the rim but he'll be fouled that's
020great offense off of that delayed transition break pushed the ball hard and Colin makes a good decision on the spin dribble and it's going line for two the thing that I like the most about that and this is something Stacy has instilled since day one here if you're one-on-one in transition your mentality has to be you're scoring or getting fouled which means you can't go in and play side to side you go straight lines make a decisive move there like Colin did Spin and get to the rim and and he's going to hopefully make this two for two from the line he does those two free throws put the Pirates back in the lead 7 to6 340 to go here in the first quarter Turner drops it inside and there Simmons able to get behind
021the defense again they find him as Colin looks to [Applause] attack that is 21 Drew Turner putting fisers up 10 to7 now another turnover by by the Pirates back-to-back turnovers now as fisers brings it across Turner with the ball for the Tigers reverses out top to Stringer Ball's going to be tied up possession arrow belongs to the Pirates number 32 Matt Brewer from fiser end of the game something the Pirates definitely have to get cleaned up here as we've been saying as there are far too many shots that are being left at The Rim by fisers another poorly timed pass there by the Pirates three straight trips three straight turnovers by the Pirates Ball's passed inside to 32 that whistle is going to mean danger for the Pirates that's going to be the second called
022early here on Bryan Stanley that is looks like we're going to get our first look here at freshman Addison BS petett he'll have to come in for Bryan who's got his second 240 to go pirates Trail 10 to7 I think we're seeing how disciplined fisers is they do push the ball but they're also showing showing patience on the offensive end and trying to get a quality shot at this point they have not had a lot of difficulty finding quality looks you good look up the floor and transition Kai trips but Lane's able to track it down gets to the right wing to Dakota Walters back out top the lane lane good first step gets to the rim nice job of Lane being patient there letting that defense get spread out gets to the rim gets
023the Pirates back within one 10 to n here minute 55 to go third is going to be called there on Brendan he did his best had his guy blocked out textbook blockout going to get his third foul called here in the first quarter coach Meyer is obviously upset and for good reason that's one of those fouls where as a coach you're upset because you have in the back of your mind what's the point in blocking out if you're not going to call fouls like that because then what leads to that third foul is the fact that you don't reward a kid for being fundamentally sound right also you can't fault Brendan too much because he's just out there competing and that's a bang bang play that unfortunately he got the foul call Rebound there on
024the Miss free throw by CER still Pirates Trail 10 to n Walters into the lane goes up just misses rebound by fisers as Turner pushes in transition kicks to the wing to Milsap reverse over here to Smith Smith backs it back out lets him get [Music] set UCLA screen set up to the top looks like we're getting a little back screen ball screen action good read There by milsaps nice job by Lane defend great job Kai does a great job over playing gets gets a tip and then fers is able to tip timeout called here by fisers 109 to go here in the first quarter Pirates Trail 10 to n they will bring it into play after this 30 second timeout Grant I will have to say so far I've been very impressed like you
025said both teams have been patient in the half court but fisers has done a great job reading any overplay their back cutting or anytime that that our posts either help too much they they over rotate or they they get just a half a step too high they do a great job pinning our guys on the high side yeah I think the their bigs are playing angles well they're also very physical I think the depth of their lineup is going to pay dividends over the night too we have to see how how the Pirates adjust I know notice the last possession they were switching everyone and we'll see if Greensburg continues to do that and help on the backside first time here fisers had been in a manto Man Press they bring out a 221 Zone
026press sometimes teams do this to be aggressive sometimes they do it just to control Tempo not sure what we'll see out of fisers here as the Pirates break it get it to Lane in the corner Lane gets into the lane able to go up and score makes it 11 to 10 Pirates retake the lead here 50 seconds to go in the quarter Ball's reversed out top to milsaps swings to the wing to Turner Turner back out top to puit don't know if Fischer's going to look to stay patient and get the last shot or they're just going to have their normal patient offense that they've been running get their first good look that they do nice job by Lane but then great reack there by Smith able to keep it alive himself get another offensive
027rebound that's kind of been the the tone here of the first half first quarter fiser getting to the rim and missing but able to control their own rebounds 15 seconds to go here Bill saps drives good help by Addison Lane gambl coach have you noticed I think rebounding is going to play a big part in this game because fisers keeps getting extra possessions absolutely lane from half court that shot is no good that's the end of the first quarter the score Fishers 12 Pirates 11 now that's one of those that that fans love to see aggressiveness and everybody oo and aw but that that last aggressiveness there by Lane you don't want you don't want to really hold a kid back but that's one that in a game like this where you're really struggling guarding
028the drive that you can't afford to have one kid break that shell and get out of position because you saw what happens when uh Smith is able to read that and get to the rim and put fisers back in the lead yeah I think that's a difference between being aggressive and fundamentally sound I think they got to close up the gaps and helping recover whenever possible and um as I just referenced I think uh the Pirates are going to have to finish out possessions with uh good strong defensive rebounds and looking to kick it transition and I think the thing that that they have to to come to the realization of is you can't play great 20 25 seconds worth of half court defense and didn't think the possession is over just because the shots
029Missed The Possession isn't over until you finish it with a block out and a rebound and right now we're doing everything but finish the possession with that rebound and when you give a team that's as good as Fishers and as physical as Fishers second third and fourth opportunities that will come back and haunt you at the end of the night I am sure if someone were smart enough to do a statistical analysis on field goal percentage after offensive rebound I bet you'd be off the charts and when we give up those offensive rebounds fisers is going to have a lot of good opportunities and what tends to happen a lot of times and it's almost like Murphy's lost on on a missed blockout they tend to kick it back out and hit a three is
030what happens a lot of times I don't I don't know if uh if at halftime there needs to be a wet mopping of the floor take place or what but I've seen more Pirates fall and I don't know if if it was from the wrestling mats being down just added an extra layer of dust we had a wrestling invitational here today good for our wrestlers to uh be able to have a home meet but so far it's wreaked some havoc on the the footing of both teams Ball's kicked over to the right side to Dyer CER out top going to set a flat ball screen CER looks to drive kicks it inside the dire he's short kept alive there by Pettit but controlled by fisers as now pu brings it across the timeline kicks into
031the corner to Forbes back out top to Simmons he's back to Forbes good strong straight line drive there another offensive rebound that will be deflected away possession belongs to the Pirates notice now Fischer's back in appears to be man-to-man press kind of have a little token Den ey and see if we can handle that ball pressure well you mentioned earlier that the their depth could end up being a factor and just something like that where you just make it difficult to get the ball in bounds and then not really looking to trap or get a steal but just make you work every time Pirates are going to play you know at best six guys tonight uh that that could have a wearing effect as the game goes on absolutely absolutely not only physically but mentally
032mentally as you're trying to be sharp throughout the game and close out possessions and make good decisions on the offensive end great battle there by Dakota Walters to kick it out to Dyer nice look by Dyer inside to P it for two Pet's first basket of the game brings the Pirates back to the lead 13-2 620 to go here in the first half looks like we're watching some uh early early to mid 2000s Wisconsin here with some swing offense being deployed by fisers they're kind of tempting Simmons into a three they're going to give that one up to pu it looks like that was a good decision by the Pirates somebody read The Scouting Report Dyer out at the Timeline as they get set every time the Pirates have have gotten to the point where
033they're trying to get a set or just looking to get an easy entry it just seems that things have gone a little sideways gotten a little Haywire some of that could be because of the physicality that that fisers has shown defensively some of it is it's been a couple of weeks since the Pirates play just trying to knock some rust off you don't see this every day the Pirates are out in two3 now trying to just slow down fisers a little bit and maybe just limit the number of possessions in the game could be that uh so far as we've been saying been a lot of shots at the rim and even against the Zone still able to get inside as Smith gets to the rim Brett Stringer into the lineup for the first time
034tonight Stringer out top handling it he's going to be fouled there foul is going to be on number four forbs that's going to be his first third on fisers 505 to go here Pirates Trail 14-13 you know what as concerned as we or critical we've been about the Pirates on the defensive end this still a one-point ball game I think Pirates just have to be patient be poised and just play their own game you can see now anytime Lane gets it it's an automatic double team didn't matter that time laye able to get to the rim 15 to 14 now Pirates Take the Lead nice job there as Addison Barnes petett steps in and takes the charge great read of stepping over and help takes a charge foul is going to be on number 21
035Drew Turner his second fourth on fisers Kai Dyer checks back in you know with the foul trouble with Brendan Stanley Addison Barnes Peta is going to have to play a lot of minutes here and thus far he's doing a very nice job filling in CER gets the dire a foul is going to be called on the floor Dyer does a great job getting to the Middle where defenses defenses are always trying to keep the ball out of the lane so Kai does a great job taking that hand off and really looking to attack going downhill you you talked about the depth coach Simpson Notice fisers Just Subs Two fresh guys in see if the Pirates can keep up Ball's entered out top to P it revers to Dyer coach Meyer now calling for 41 layups
036want great patience as we turn it over good hustle there by Lane able to knock it off of number five Stringer that's just great hustle there by Lane to get that possession back Pirates now will take it out having to go the length of the floor Lane gets it into to [Music] CER we hear coach Meyer calling out Nike you've heard that a time or two haven't you coach just because a play is called doesn't mean the pass should be made but now the pyat got to get back defensively they are not able to as milsaps is able to get into the teeth of the defense and finish at The Rim puts fisers back in the lead CER on the attack comes up short nice battle there by Walter as he's able to keep it
037alive turnover there by the Pirates 338 to go here in the first half Pirates Trail 16- 15 coach Meyer's going to roll the dice he's not going to roll the dice saw Brendan going back to the scorers table thought maybe he was going to check in and Coach Meyer could uh maybe employ a Zone to keep him out of foul trouble but catches it at the last second takes him out of the game a little side pinch action there run by fisers entered out to the high elbow to Simmons looking to attack 15-footers no good rebound there by Lane CER in transition brings it up going to be trapped in the corner another turnover there by the Pirates picked off by Simmons brings it himself in transition gets to the rim no good rebound there
038by Barnes Pettit kid Dyer on the attack gets inside no good at The Rim fiser in transition finished there nicely by 23 Bryce Williams you know we had a lot happen there back and forth I don't hate the Pirates pushing the transition I just wish they could have finished at The Rim it would have made fisers take the ball than n versus pushing the ball off a Miss 18 to 15 fiser lead as Lane gets inside I think that's his first Miss of the game Point Blank Range 18- 15 fiser leads 225 to go in the first half Ball's passed inside to 33 Simmons great job there by Barnes pet at not fouling just going straight up making it a difficult finish CER attacks from the right wing gets inside He will draw the foul
039Colin cmer to the line for two you know that we talked in the [Music] opening we we talked in the opening coach Simpson about the defensive pressure that the Pirates are going to see and when we take it to the rim we're going to have to be strong and physical because fishes is going to bring at every possession that last take by Colin he earned the strip or the trip to the charity line just because of his physical play and his his determination to get to the hoop and now that you see how the officials are going to call that at The Rim now and it not saying it's going to be easy now you take that next step and try to finish through contact and get that that and one so you're getting getting
040three an attempt at three points instead of just one like we got that time as Colin goes one for two from the line makes it 18 to 16 here two minutes to go no help there as Lane gets driven by backside help was nowhere to be found 20 to 16 now fiser leads 155 to go in the first half Sparks will bring it across the timeline going to set a high ball screen give Lane some space to work good slip there by Barnes petett good find by Lane Sparks as Barnes pettett is able to finish that's good offense they give so much attention to Lane off of the dribble penetration that Addison rolls nicely catches and finishes and I think it just goes to show Lane's unselfishness that was one he could have kept his
041dribble tried to attack did a good job staying patient kept alive there by Simmons but recovered by the Pirates pass ahead it's going to be deflected out of bounds looks like for once we might actually uh thank the officials that looked like that was off on the Pirates but we're not going to complain we'll call it a 50/50 ball Greensburg takes it out of bounds under their own basket 112 to go trailing 20 to 18 Dyer looking to trigger it in gets it inbounds finally to CER CER drives inside nice find Again by Lane inside to Barnes pet it one minute to go in the first half Barnes petted able to draw the Pirates to a tie 20 to 20 here as the clock ticks under 1 minute too in the [Music] half they find
042Simmons inside as they have done far too often in this first half Simmons another two-point bucket there right at The Rim 22 to 20 fiser in the lead here 40 seconds to go in the first half that last defensive possession the big helped uphill and provided the opening for Simmons there looks like the Pirates are going to be patient here they'll take a layup if they can get it but they're going to hold for one if they can Lane's got to be careful referee's got the count able to break the count there now he's counting again counts broken coach will they go flat here or will they try to set a ball I think they might well looks like they're going to try to run a different set at the buzzer Barnes petted able to
043get that shot off our score at the end of the first half Fishers 22 Pirates 20 we do want to mention to all of our listeners upcoming events tomorrow you can find your lady pirates two different times as Greensburg hosts the Holiday Tournament Greensburg will face off against Southport at 10:00 followed after that by Noblesville and New Pal as always we're we're hoping and and thinking that the Pirates will win game one if they're able to do that they will play in the championship game at 6 if by some means they find their way into the losers game that will be at 4 but it will also be broadcast here live on GTV through this same link Coach Moore or will they be a different link through this same link you'll be able to find
044that I lied a different link you can go to YouTube to GT 's Channel I'm sure that link will be tweeted out you can find it on Facebook but that will be tomorrow we'll join you again the start of the second half we will step away here Pirates Trail 22 to2 at the end of the first [Music] half I started shot it was terrible [Music] how many [Music] seven and you know what they're only down two I know only down two [Music] just [Music] text swe [Music] are you going to concession stand you get your water yourself [Music] he [Music] hey [Music] he [Music] thank you yes [Music] sir good [Music] 15 to do hey Domingo Domingo hey run [Music] down pi [Music] he [Music] good good [Music] two got at least [Music] it don't
045matter [Music] okay [Music] hey we're back here at Greensburg High School getting ready to start second half action fisers lead your Pirates 22 to20 Grant I think you have some first half scorers for us absolutely for the Pirates let's start there Colin CER has three points Lane Sparks has eight Addison Barnes petted Off the Bench with six and Dakota Walters has that lone three and then for the visiting Tigers of fisers Shan milsaps number two has two points Drew Turner number 21 has two points Bryce Williams number 23 has six points Charlie Smith has four and Jeffrey Simmons has eight points all right grant as we come back out here to start the second half Pirates will start with the basketball in your opinion give me one one key both offensively and defensively that are
046going to win and lose win or lose this game for the Pirates I would start with just taking care of the basketball number one that that means in All Phases of the game taking care of the basketball when you secure a rebound being strong with it and also in the half court making good decisions my second point for the for the Pirates would then it would go into finishing possessions with rebounds not giving up offensive rebounds if the Pirates can do those two things they're going to come out with a victory tonight I think it shows a little bit of uh the confidence now that that coach Meyer has been given by the play of Addison Barnes Pettit there in that first half as he's willing to start with Brendan on the bench as you
047just talked about the importance of taking care of the basketball first possession of the second half pirates with a turnover good pressure being applied by the Pirates almost to a five count there as it gets passed into Simmons in the post Simmons works on dire spins and scores 24 to 20 Fishers you don't see moves like that very often in today's game with a big man with his back to the basket faking One Direction going other they give you thoughts of Kevin mccale coach did you see a little Kevin mccale I did he actually used the glass very fundamental long lanky Strong finish good for him Pirates were able to come back and transition there Walters with a nice Strong finish at The Rim 2422 fisers in the lead seven minutes to go here in
048the third quarter fisers again showing that patience attack along the Baseline there by Williams knocked out of bounds great Hustle by lanee able to give the ball back to the Pirates you know you referenced The Hustle by Lane Sparks that's a play that's not going to show up on the stat sheet but that extra effort caused fisers to knock it out of bounds and results in possession for the Pirates and I think that's what gets lost so many times people see the points and because that's the easy flashy thing to see as kmer attacks Ball's going to be knocked out of bounds but but what they don't see are things like that the the the effort plays that you don't even understand the importance of plays like that until the game's over and you look
049at the end then it like you said it doesn't show up in the Box Score but those are the plays that make the difference between winning and losing and it's it's plays that require zero skill it's so much of a want to and a mentality and Lane definitely has that Warriors mentality he's going to fight for 32 minutes that he's on the floor I would also extend that philosophy to Addison Barnes Peta I think that's why he's out here in the second half just because he showed that ability to make those hustle plays in the first half and it's really impressive too because he's charged now with guarding their leading score and he's a freshman as that ball gets inbounded there to Turner Turner knocks down fisers first three of the night extends the lead
050to the biggest of the night for fisers 2722 now Pirates Trail six minutes to go in the third quarter as CER gives it off to Dyer dire surveys gets in to the Lane wanted a foul on the play won't be called as Smith is able to take that finish at the rim and score Pirates now Trail 29- 22 fers has come out on on a nice little run here Pirates having the the same difficulties that plagued them in the first half just being a little loose with the BK bball getting to the rim but then not able to to finish through the contact you know you've been around coach Meer a long time and it's not often that he uses a timeout in this fashion but he understands the point of the game that he
051needed to burn one here get everyone steady get everyone right because he didn't want this game to get away the Pirates are right there they just need a couple of good solid possessions to to slow this game down a little bit and also get on the scoreboard and you know like you said this isn't a time that you a lot of times see coach Meyer burning a timeout but when you have to question the toughness that that's being exhibited or Not exhibited by the Pirates that's when that's when coach Meyer will will look to to use that timeout just just have a meeting of the minds as you will you know just kind of rattle the cages remind them of what's at stake and and the just a couple little points that that need to
052be made to clean things up another turnover there by the Pirates on the in BS pass as Turner brings it back out top correction Smith has it out top for fisers now Turner with it out top looking to attack back out to Smith Smith looking to attack Stanley Brendan's got a he can contest but got to stay out of the way not able to fight for that rebound like he normally would and another turnover there by the Pirates be interesting to see how much longer coach Meyer allows this to go going to see if they can play through it the pirat will have it out under their own basket the Pirates are going to have to show how mentally tough they are right here because they have got to dig themselves out of a hole
053keep their composure and get a quality shot on the other end Williams there able to convert puts the Pirates down by 11 now as Sparks brings it up hits Dyer in the corner Dyer attacks on the Baseline inside to Stanley he's going to be hit he'll go to the line for two and I think if you look back at those last few possessions Grant if you watch there didn't seem to be any sense of urgency by the Pirates in their cuts to get open you know fisers is going to play as physical as the referees allow them and was there some holding and grabbing going on there absolutely but what do they always say it's not a foul until the referee blows his whistl and so you got to learn to play through that and
054I think that they were looking to get bailed out instead of making plays on their own there if you're not going to set a screen for a press breaker the guys that are cutting to get open have to cut in front of the defender and actually show that they want the basketball Brendan goes one for two to from the line A Smith comes right back finishes at The Rim Pirates now Trail 3523 CER kicks in the corner to Dyer fumbled away out of bounds 440 to go here as coach Meyer will take that full timeout now try to write the ship 440 to go in the third quarter Pirates Trail 3523 and and uh coach Peters they they're kind of making you look like a basketball Savant here as you said that uh the the
055biggest point of emphasis needs to be taking care of the basketball and you know conservatively we'll say there's been 10 possessions here by the Pirates to start the the second half and I think they've turned it over on seven or eight of them I think that's a very conservative estimate um especially with the Press breaker giving them problems and then the last possession you see there in the half court we got we got deep penetration and just turned it over when we tried to kick it out so I think the Pirates have to uh value the ball and even in the third quarter even though you're down 12 it wouldn't hurt to have an offensive possession that takes 30 or 40 seconds just show some Grit show some composure and and reverse the ball a
056couple times and get a good shot the the only downside to that would be if we were able to do that and really work for a great look and then finish at The Rim finish with a three whatever it might be fisers has done a great job on two or three possessions here immediately getting down and scoring right after a turnover or a made basket by the Pirates so the transition defense would have to be great on the back end of that too you can't have one great possession offensively and think you've accomplished something you got to start stacking stops and scores double high ball screen set there running a shooter milsaps off of double staggered he's going to attack get to the rim he'll go to the line for the and one mil sapaps
057finishes at The Rim that foul will be called on 14 Kai Dyer you know coach we referenced earlier about Fischer's depth that depth may be showing itself a little bit here a little bit Fresher a little bit sharper um maybe even right now wanting it just a little bit more just due to being being a little bit having a little bit more energy at this point that free throw is no good but that finish at The Rim there by milsaps makes the score 3723 now Pirates down by 14 here we have our third different press of the game a little little Diamond being employed by fisers there's their trap earlier in the game we saw their first two presses just more of uh looking to to control Tempo that one like you said they were
058looking to trap out of that be over overly aggressive as Lane now gets to 15 ft pulls up he's able to score 3725 Pirates cut into that Advantage now Trail by 12 you know I can be a bit of a homer at times but I don't know there's many high school players that could make that jump shot that he just made well and so so much of that goes back to Lane works on that so hard that seems to be a lost start that mid-range game is such a weapon of lanes and he does a great job yeah and that was contested as well which will serve him well when he plays at the next level Brendan does a great job getting in there disrupting that coming up with the loose ball foul is going
059to be called there on Smith of fishers Pirates ball on the sideline I'm surveying to see what zone press are in again now they've gone back to their token manto man pressure Walters does a good job bringing it up breaking that pressure hand off out top to lane lane gets the 15 again it's good 3727 Pirates chipping away was 14 able to get to 15 feet there two possessions in a row by Sparks gets it back to within 10 but then right behind that as we said Pirates not able to keep fisers out of the Lane Smith drives and he's going to draw a contact go to the line for two you know the Pirates can get a couple of stops you might see on the offensive end really the Pirates featuring Lane just because
060of the success and the efficiency they score with him having the ball might be their best option at this point and I think what you'll see the more success Lane continues to have you might see fisers just throw two guys at him and look at Greensburg and say one of you other guys is going to have to beat us you have to make a play and they're going to force somebody else to have to step up well if they send two people at him hopefully that opens up wide open for some of our our other guys to have a good open quality look good attack there by Walters knocked out of bounds by fisers will be Pirates ball under their basket fisers goes 0 for two that last possession at the line 301 to go
061here Pirates Trail by 10 37 27 Ball inbounded by Dyer to Sparks Lane Fades away no good Dyer does a great job keeping it alive and one for Kai Dyer Dyer with the second chance opportunity there puts it in draws the Pirates back to within eight he'll go to the line with a chance for the oldfashioned three-point play now we talked about hustle plays that don't show up on the St sheet this one will in an offensive rebound but Kai showed a lot of toughness for being a young player and also a lot of strength finishing the rebound and putting it in that free throw is no good Pirates Trail by eight 250 to go here in the third quarter nice contest at The Rim there by lane lane brings it across the timeline gets
062inside his shots no good Dyer does a good job again trying to get that offensive rebound skipped across the floor to Turner turn her back across deflect it out of bounds by CER I'll tell you a guy that I'd like to see be more aggressive here for the next four or five minutes for the Pirates is Dakota Walters he seems to have seems to be that kid that's got the athleticism and just enough shake to him I think he could could cause some issues for Fishers but right now just doesn't seem to be really really exerting himself offensively Dyer does a great job being on the backside help there steal the lob attempt inside for Simmons takes it Coast to Coast he was fouled he's going to go to the line for two you know
063we talked about Kai D's hustle in the last possession down here you notice his basketball instincts took over he understood that he had an opening and he had a little crease and he decided to be aggressive and take it to the rim good for Kai Dyer's first attempt is up and good brings the Pirates back to within seven 3730 now they cut that lead in half here in just under 2 minutes dire second is up and good 3731 Pirates Trail now by only six as Smith will bring it across for fisers nice attack there by Stringer nice attack that was one that Kai has got to understand with that ball screen coming you have to force the offensive man to use the ball screen good find inside but blocked Walters is blocked at The Rim
064good box out there by Walters able to come down with that Miss three by Smith Dyer along the left Wings going to get inside going to put it up just off the iron collected Inside by Simmons as fisers brings it across Turner swings out top to Stringer all the way to the corner to Smith Smith gets it inside the Simmons Good Help by Walters but yet another offensive rebound there by Simmons puts the Pirates back down by 10 4131 minute to go here in the third quarter you know once again I'd make the point that if the Pirates need to emphasize on getting a good quality shot versus a quick Shot Lane gets in the lane he's going to be called for a travel 53 seconds to go pirates Trail by 10 pirate faithful not
065real happy with that call it's good to see our fans getting into it Smith now for the Tigers brings it across little dribble entry curl into the post swings it back to the top to Turner little swing screen action almost freed up Smith for a layup there but looks like fisers might be patient enough to hold for the last shot of the quarter here this does have a little bit of a swing feel to it doesn't it I'm not sure they're really looking to score out of it other than just getting some movement setting up for the last shot of the to Smith has it 8 seconds to go ball screen set Smith looking to attack attacking [Applause] Stanley Lanes three quarter Court attempt is no good into the third quarter now Pirates Trail 41
06631 Pirates got themselves into a 14-point hole there grant were able to cut it back to six what what did they do right there that were that allowed them to cut that lead in half I think I think their their shot selection on the offensive end getting good quality shots helped kind of them chip into that lead they got it down to six at one point and you notice it's because of quality looks on the offensive end and also getting pairing that with stops on the on the defensive end they have eight minutes to go here we'll see if they can have another push they get it to six or five you know with four minutes to go I I wouldn't count as out by any means well and I think what we saw in
067that two-minute stretch it goes from 14 to six there were zero turnovers and zero offensive rebounds by fisers now what what kind of sparked our run was Kai Dyer getting an offensive putback and one for us for for the Pirates but just that that brief two-minute Glimpse is what the Pirates have got to live on now they they've got to see that just how important taking care of the basketball is and how you've got to make sure that the opposing team is and done each time that you're able to go down and have a good defensive half court possession yourself it's going to be fiser basketball here to start the fourth quarter triggered in to Smith he'll bring it across the timeline Smith surveying the defense looking to get the ball inside the Simmons they
068do up and score 4331 now Pirates Trail as cmer will bring it across for the Pirates CER looking to attack good attack there good back cut by Lane going to be tipped out of bounds they're going to say that it was last touched by the Pirates turnover is going to be called coach holsworth pleading the Pirates case on the sideline going to step in favor of the Tigers the officials did check in with each other and did agree that it was red ball Simmons sets that back screen ball screen now offensive foul is going to be called on fisers in illegal screen legal screen called there on number four Josh Forbes his third foul team's fifth could do the Pirates some good here they're only two fouls away from being in the bonus can't lob
069the ball inbounds and expect good things to happen too often off the turnover cmer able to get it back there as he blocks Turner at The Rim CER drives kicks to Dyer in the corner back out to Walters back to Dyer over the lane on the right wing skips it across the floor to Walters Dakota hits Colin Colin step back three in and out good follow there by Lane let's see if the Pyers can pair that offensive bucket with a stop here on the defensive end that's one of those shots by Colin does everything but finish at the bottom of the net good look by him great defense there timeouts going to be called by fisers 627 to go here in the game our Pirates Trail 4333 nothing nothing has changed since the start of
070the fourth quarter pirates still Trail by 10 what's going to have to happen here Grant this last 627 for the Pirates to kind of flip the script and we don't care if it's by 10 or by one but to make sure the Pirates come out on top you know at what point do you will Stacy consider any kind of defensive change here just to throw them off um at what point do you get I wouldn't say in desperation mode but you get in a position where you want to create some disruption defensively with maybe a Zone press or a trap and knowing Stacy he's he's going to go till probably just under the five minute Mark depend now if this thing would stretch out any more than it is then you could see him really
071change things up but if he can keep it within Striking Distance you might see just under five minutes as the ball's kicked in the corner to number two milps just a catch and shoot three as the ball's kicked up Court nice find there by Lane as he hits Walters and just like you said when do they change now the Pirates are going to employ some full-court man-to-man pressure Pirates Trail 4635 6 minutes to go kicked on the Baseline to Turner ball foul is going to be called on Brendan and unfortunately I do think that's the right call Brendan tried to draw the charge but then because he fell got caught up and he's what actually caused uh Simmons to to fall there so that is going to be a blocking call on Bryan that's his
072fourth that brings Barnes pet it back in Bryan actually did a good job playing for a good long time there without drawing that fourth back out to milsaps in the corner his three is up and good not quite sure at what point as a player you say to yourself self I might want to get a hand up but hopefully that's happening soon milsaps hit a couple big threes the last two possessions CER drives his layup attempt is no good on the left hand side Pirates Trail 4935 nice defense there by Barnes petett into the hands of Dyer to CER for a nift I think Colin had designs of maybe going up and getting a little Ram Jam bam slam on that one nice job there by the Pirates good trap and deflection by Lane then
073Kai did a great job hitting it off of a fisers player it's going to be out of bounds to the pirates pirates still Trail 4937 as fisers continues their parade of new fresh players into the game 51 to go here pirates still trailing by 12 Ball's going to be triggered into Walters back to CER CER kicks left side the dire hits Lane coming off a curl Lane gets into the teeth of the defense skip pass out to CER CER to Walters Barnes petett back to Walters good back cut read There by Kai Kai gets into the lane no good follows his own shot nice Kai nice rebound put back there by Kai Dyer brings the Pirates back to within 10 430 to go here in the game as CER will pressure out top that's Turner
074for sorry that's Williams for fiser Turner on the curl he's going to get to the rim and score seems like anytime the Pirates try to make a dent fisers is able to get downhill and get to the rim and just when you start to feel that balloon inflating the air starts to come out a little bit Yeah and fiser responds by not only getting a good shot but getting a shot right at The Rim not quite sure that I agree with that call it's a flop that's going to be called a charge it's going to be difficult oh wow they called it an illegal screen I thought they called it a push on Lane it's kind of hard for Lane to to get open when the guy's wearing his uniform with him but I digress
075four minutes to go here in the game pirates Trail 5139 n that's Turner with it swings it across the floor now Williams on the left side kicks back out top to Smith looks like Fischer's going to be happy to just chew some clock here they're going to get whatever they want as they stick Simmons out at the setting nail screens as Simmons will look to attack gets inside kicks back outside to Smith Smith brings it back to the top resets the offense good pressure being applied by Lane no help to be seen Well Done by fisers there showing a lot of patience and grinded out a a tough possession and ended with a good look and exactly what you can't have happen when you're trying to come back into a game is a score and
076then a turnover that three-point attempt by Simmons is no good as CER will bring it across his three-point attempt is no good rebounded there by puit as now fisers will be happy to just walk it up control the tempo as Williams brings it across for fisers 240 to go and just as soon as we say they're patient they get impatient and turn it over Pirates Trail 5339 239 to go here fiser still extends their pressure want to just make it difficult for the Pirates to get it in bounds also make them chew up a little bit more clock looks like they just want to keep it out of lanes hands Ball's kicked across the floor to Dyer Dyer gets inside he tries to kick to Stanley going to be knocked out of bounds off of
077Stanley it's going to be Fischer's ball 5339 now 230 to go into game as Collins's going to pick up full court pressure good pressure being applied I would say fisers is going to be happy with free throws and layups to finish this game coach Meyer looks like he's going to dump the bench now Fischer's just going to pass it around nice read There by Brendan the one time tonight that Lane's not aggressive kind of surprised by that as fisers does a good job looking up the floor finds Simmons for two 5539 now Pirates Trail CER pulls up that three-point attempt is no good pu it with the rebound Williams will bring it up Lane still out there fighting as we know he will he's frustrated with a call it even though it was a foul
078he feels like he gets held and smacked throughout entire games he's just asking for a consistent whistle for the first time tonight we have some new faces in for the Pirates number 10 Jeter Edwards number 30 Brett Stringer comes back into the game number 22 Abe tebbie in for the first time as it gets into Simmons he'll finish at the rim for two as Stanley in BR inbounds to Edwards Edwards kicks across the floor to Stanley Brendon will drive get to the rim that's going to be denied as Edwards goes up he's denied Stringer carals it for the Pirates over on the right wing to Barnes Pettit Barnes Pettit swings to Stringer over to tbbi a Stringer to Edwards looks like fisers was calling for a foul they just wanted to dump their bench yeah
079although with a a team that plays as many guys as they do I don't know how many of these guys are actually checking in for the first time I think only one I think everybody has played now except for number 11 this will be the first time that we see John Inari in for Fishers the ball will be trigged triggered in to Edwards 43 seconds to go now Pirates Trail 5739 Barnes petted on the Baseline swings to TBB over to Edwards nice Cut there by Bryan Brendan gets into the lane he goes up and he's fouled he'll go to the line for two you know it is good to see the young kids come in despite what the scoreboard showing had a nice offensive possession there showed toughness showed execution and it results with Brendan
080stainley being at the line brenan's first free throw attempt is up and good 5740 now 31.7 seconds to go second free throw attempt is up and good 5741 now Pirates Trail 30 seconds to go in the game fisers will just run out the clock here unless the Pirates decide to foul coach Meyer doesn't want him to foul 32 there Matt Brewer gets in the scorebook that's a final score here from Greensburg our Pirates fall to fisers 59- 41 the next time that you'll be able to to see your pirates in action will be on January 2nd at Columbus East now this was a game that was scheduled kind of last minute by coach Meyer I'm sure he's he's constantly looking for games to fill the schedule so keep an eye out online go to Greensburg
081athletics.com to check the schedule check Twitter check all of your social media apps I'm sure it will be posted they'll keep you up to date uh final thoughts here Grant yeah I thought the pirats came out and um tried to handle the intensity of fishers and I think their the depth of fishers and also just the continual ball pressure um just wore out the Pirates as the game progressed I do think the Pirates had some some bright spots you know I thought Lane battled the whole night I thought other individuals uh pitched in and and had nice nights as well but in the end um fisers was just too much for Greensburg to handle and I and I think that uh the biggest thing two biggest things that coach Meyer will take away from this
082game are um just valuing possession of the basketball and some of that comes down to physical and mental toughness some of it comes down to look just that idea of the value of each possession in a game like this this you're playing a a a good 4A team you know that even though it will be in the 3A tournament this is the level of Team you're going to see if you're fortunate enough to win a sectional and you move on in the tournament you're playing in the regional in the semi-state this is the quality of opponent that you're going to have to beat to continue your season and to continue that March in a tournament and so valuing every single possession is going to be at at the top of the list for Coach Meyer
083and then I think also just controlling the offensive glass far too many offensive rebounds back coming on the back of of turnovers are two things that I think coach will really focus on here before their next outing I think you mentioned this earlier in the broadcast um valuing the ball and finishing possessions rebounding wise there is a fraction of that that does come down to skill but mostly it comes down to effort toughness and just the want to to get the job done I I say it all of the time to to our girls that rebounding is about 99 per want to and about a half a percent skill and half a percent technique I mean you you just have to want to get in there and muck it up and do the dirty work
084because there's nothing at all pretty about a battle on the boards I mean it it's going to be down and dirty and gritty and and it's just it's going to be hard just like your defensive possession was but don't do all of that work throughout a possession and then not get rewarded for it by finishing with with a rebound yeah well I think that's going to do it for our broadcast tonight Grant thanks for helping us out it's been Grant Peters and Jason Simpson bringing to you green
