At this time, I would like to introduce to everybody, if you don't know him already, Phil Miko, and he actually I'm going to let you know a little bit about him. Um, he does bring a comprehensive background in education to the superintendent role. Having served at every level school leadership, he began his career teaching all core subjects at the sixth grade level for a decade while also coaching simple sports in middle school and serving as a varsity basketball coach. Phil then transitioned into administration serving as assistant principal at Portage High School, Willow Creek Middle School, and Faggley Middle School within Portage
Township schools. He was the principal at Faggley Middle School before serving as the principal at South Haven Elementary School. Phil then joined us at Hannover School Corporation where he was the principal at Jane Ball and then two years ago moved into the assistant superintendent role. He has been in education for 29 years. And I'd like everybody if you don't know him to meet Phil. HE'S not nervous at all. Not nervous at all. >> Before Phil talks, I just want to um say a few words. Uh I don't even know how long I've known Phil. It's been a couple of decades. Um but probably one of the finest educators I know. He never loses his focus as to what's important and he really does keep kids first even when it's sometimes uncomfortable for adults. He never
loses focus. Um he is has tremendous heart for kids, tremendous heart for staff, probably one of, like I said, finest educators I know, but he's also probably one of the finest people I know. And it brings me great joy as the exiting superintendent to have Phil replace me because you always wanted to leave things better than you found them. And I know he will leave things even better than they are. I'm glad you're here, Bill. Congratulations. >> Thanks. >> Your turn. If you know me, I usually don't have problems talking, but I'm a little bit nervous right now. Bear with me. I'd like to introduce some uh family. Uh what I did want to do is get emotional. That's something else you'll find out about me if you don't already know. Um, my wife Debbie,
my daughter Emma, uh, my my dad Phil, my stepmom Patty, my sister Holly, and uh, a close friend of me and our my family is Chuck. He's a He's a brother. I I practice this. I promise. I'll get through it. Um, my glasses because I can't see. Mhm. Uh, I want to thank the school board for this opportunity. Uh, I'm incredibly proud and humbled to be chosen as the next superintendent of Hanover Schools. This is both an honor and a responsibility, and I will work hard to uphold this every day. Uh, I am dedicated fully to our students, our staff, and our community. I also want to thank Dr. McCauley. You did yell at me a couple times. Not not now, but back then. Um, uh, for her exceptional leadership over the last 10 years
at handover. Um, for her modeling of courageous leadership, uh, of her mentorship that will she will continue onto the future whether she wants to or not. Um, and her friendship. Uh, I'd also like to thank past and present board members for all of the hard work you've done to make handover an amazing place for all of us to get to work at. Um, handover to me working in different districts is a place that all staff, regardless of the role, regardless of the building, works tirelessly and passionately every day to take care of and support all kids. Uh it's a place where uh we have uh engaged and active parents that care about education and care deeply about our buildings. Um so to wrap up, I just want to say I'm looking forward to continuing that
legacy, continuing to serve the district uh with the same commitment of excellence that everybody is used to. And again, thank you for this opportunity. No, >> somebody got water under action items Tonight request approval of resolution 202526 number 13 board member compensation. We're keeping them. >> We're keeping them. >> Okay. >> It just says we have to have a better plan. We have to have a plan in place on how we're going to facilitate use of AEDs when there's a a sporting event or a band performance of play.

uh >> oh god >> you're welcome Uh, you know, the school board only has three jobs. Improve a budget, we set policy, and we handle the superintendent. That's it. We have one employee, >> and that's huge. I mean, that's a that's a major major thing. You know, we're all, I think, very big believers that leadership is top down and the culture is set from the top and has been set at a very high bar. And so, you know, hiring a superintendent is not something that any of us took lightly. We took a lot of factors and a lot of variables into consideration. And luckily internally the cream rises to the top and you know I was here fortunate enough to be part of Dr. McCauley's hire and I take a lot of pride in that
and now we all get to be here for Phil's hire and take a lot of pride in that. So congratulations Bill. >> Thank you. >> Excellent job buddy. Thank you so far. KEEP GOING.
