001Mhm. >> Mhm. >> Thank you, Mr. Stanton. I'll now call the Monday, April 27th uh school board meeting to order and move on to roll call, Mrs. Gray. And before I do roll call, Mr. Wall, I'd just like to notify the audience and the public at home BoardDocs is um having technical difficulties today. It is on their end. They've been having difficulties all day today. So, if you're not able to pull it up uh to look at it online, that's why. So, I apologize for that. Mr. Allen is absent. Mr. Wall? Here. Mr. McLellan? Here. Mr. Carl? Here. Mrs. Miller? Here. Mr. Melcher? Here. Mr. Thompson? Here. Thank you, Mr. Brimberry. Do we have any revisions to the agenda? Mr. Wall, we have no revisions for tonight's board meeting. Thank you. Uh now we're moving

002on to B1, public comment, and I have one uh person that has signed up for public comment, and that is Rita, I believe it's Michael. If you want to step up to the podium. Is it a presentation? It may be her presentation. Rita, is that your presentation? Is that what you signed up for the presentation? Yes, that Oh. Oh, if if you're if you're doing the presentation for the the township, we actually have an agenda spot for you, so you don't need to come during public comment. We'll take care of you there. Okay. Cool. Anyone else uh want to want to talk uh speak to the board? With no one coming forward, we'll move forward. Uh moving on to C1, H&HS Green Team Tree Nursery. I believe we have Mr. Park. Uh if you'd like

003to come on up, I know the board uh through the uh work uh session has reviewed some of this, and Mr. Park, thank you for being here tonight at our board meeting, as always. I believe we have a couple of items for you tonight, but thanks for starting us off. Absolutely. So, we have um had the opportunity to uh work with the city of Huntington uh on this project, and um we have uh fortunately been able to um secure funding through the uh through the city of Huntington, and uh fortunately, um we have already received uh through um Tom Guggenheim, who uh who's the gentleman who's supporting our project from New Harmony, uh has also donated uh all of our uh all of our beginning materials as well. So more good news as far as

004that goes. So the >> [snorts] >> the Honey North High School Green Team would like to go forward with this project and there really aren't any additions or deletions or revisions from our from our presentation two weeks ago. And certainly now that you've had a couple weeks to kind of ponder the project. Certainly would be willing to take any questions or additional things that you might have. Board information wise this is an action item on the MOU and I know you've been prepped on that from the work session, but Mr. Parks here in case any questions came up from the previous meeting we had. If not we'll leave the MOU and board action to you all. I just want to say since your presentation I've heard a lot of people in the community very interested

005in this project and excited to see it especially the location so they'll be able to see how things grow and progress. So again the great things that you do at the corporation we appreciate you. Well and one additional item to that Ryan would be we've received positive comments from other places in the in the state kind of unexpectedly wondering how you partner with the city to get things done and we were it's just a given that um we have a city forester urban forester that sees value in our educational system and sees value in our students. And wants to be able to partner in something that could be life changing for a lot of those kids and and certainly certainly for our community. When we were planting trees and assisting with the city this weekend

006Um the mayor said, um we're not planning we don't plan for ourselves. Um we're planning for the the kids 20 years from now and for the citizens 20 few years from now. And so that's one of the values that we've really been trying to instill in our in our students. So, thank you. I do have a question. Uh I missed the last presentation uh due to one of my child's events, but when I read through all this, is this specifically going to be for planting for the city or can you are you selling them to the public or the school is it going to be on school grounds? Um to answer the the first part of your question, um it is my understanding that the um the final product that the the first harvest or

007none of the harvest can be sold. Um these are these come from the state nursery to begin with and part of the agreement when you purchase from the state is that uh you can't resell them. Um our goal is to provide uh in partnership with the city uh for city parks, city properties, um and as part of that um it's my understanding that the city can work with a homeowner in a right-of-way. Um like on a I had talked to one citizen out at the uh Arbor Day celebration and he's like, I've been trying to get the city to plant our some trees in our in our right-of-way. Uh so, he's working with the city now. And I said, well, well, 5 years from now we might be able to help you out, but can't

008really do anything right now. So, um I know that there have been a couple questions uh across Facebook primarily about when can we buy trees? Um that's we're not in it for a profit. We're in it to to give back to our community. >> [snorts] >> Any other questions? If not, the floor is open for a motion. I make motion that we approve the tree nursery MOU as presented. Is there Second. Oh, Aaron, I got Aaron first, so. Any other further discussion? Hearing none, all in favor of the motion say aye. Aye. Aye. Opposed? Same sign? Motion carries 6-0. Mr. Park, while we have you present, one of the things we look forward to annually is a little bit of discussion and some I guess to talk about your trip to Florida. So, we appreciate

009each year you taking the kids and I know Dr. Park shows that as well with you, but we look forward tonight to hearing how their trip went and some of the things the kids have learned. So, I thank them for being here as well tonight. Well, most of you know, I bring people so that I don't have to tell about it. And so, you don't want to hear about my experience through that. But, a couple things I do want to say since I do have the mic right now. First of all, after having done this trip for 4 years now, we want to thank the school board and the school corporation, the upper administration for believing in us and trusting in us to give our students a once-in-a-lifetime experience and once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, which we believe

010we do um at a at a cost that is accessible to our students. And so, thank you for that. Um the uh if you go to the next slide, Cindy. Um one of the things that we did this year that we typically haven't done in the past is put together a list of firsts that students have experienced. And so, if you look at the slide there, um our students this year in particular got to experience a lot of new things. And one of the things that we pride ourselves here at Huntington North High School is giving kids new experiences and new opportunities. And so, for a lot of us, we think, you know, riding on a plane, you go through security and it's a big deal. Uh for a student who's never done that before,

011it's a big deal. Um and you can see that uh Dr. Parker and I are very pleased and proud to give kids the experience of a lot of firsts, and you'll hear about one of those tonight. Uh Cindy, if you could go back to the first slide. Um so, I asked uh four individuals with varying experiences on this uh on this trip to come and tell a little bit a few uh few minutes of their time in order to share with you uh Kiara Barr, who's a junior, Braden Meyer, who is a junior, Emma Richard, who's a junior, and um Ellie Stevenson, who's a a senior. So, they're going to share just a a few minutes of what they got from the trip. Um hi, my name is Ellie. And this trip was full of

012bucket list items um for me. Um because of this, my number one experience was when we went snorkeling. Um it was so fascinating to me to see the things that most people have never gotten the opportunity to see. Um during this moment, I realized how much of the world I had never seen and how blessed I was to see it. Um this trip will forever be one of my favorite memories in high school, and I'm so incredibly grateful for the opportunity to go. Hi, my name's uh Kiara. I got to experience a lot of my first on this trip, such as like riding in an airplane, going to my first national park, visiting another state. I got to see like alligators and sea turtles. And something I was very excited about was seeing the ocean

013for the first time. Uh this trip it made me feel like a little kid again. Seeing like I know students now they're very like pressured and we have like all these high expectations and mental health struggles. But going on a trip like this, it like felt like it was healing like an inner child of mine. For me, this trip taught me to be grateful for everything around me. That's why I'm getting more involved with my community this summer. I will be volunteering with ecological projects and personally taking the time to explore my own interests. Thank you. Uh hi, I'm Braden. I think the most impactful part of the trip for me was meeting Dr. Vaughan and touring Plan a Million Corals, which is a research foundation he founded where they uh grow and plant corals

014because to help prevent a die-on coral. Uh just getting the opportunity to not just learn about but actually see the impact the research had on a world made me realize how important it truly is. It's actually uh inspired me to start to go out and sign up for summer research projects myself so I can help make an impact in our community. I also really enjoyed going to the Everglades. I've been to a couple of national parks before, but the opportunity to experience a national park which is with just an amazing group of people, I'm going to remember that forever. Uh my name's Emma and a big takeaway that I had from this trip personally was just a fellowship and the sense of gratitude. A lot of their first I had done multiple times and this

015was definitely a learning experience for me and taking everything into account of uh gratuity. There were some times in Florida when it was really cold and it wasn't as we expected, but it was better than Indiana. And there was a lot of complaining from a lot of our students and I just tried to tell them to slow down and look at where we're at right now. We're the We have the opportunity to be in the Florida Keys while everyone else is back at school doing SAT prep. So, there was also a lot of fellowship on this trip as well. When I signed up for this class last year, I had only known one of my friends that was taking it with me, but on this trip I have grown to be friends with almost everybody.

016Um I'm in third period, which is one of the smaller classes, and throughout the year we've just all become really close to each other, but on the trip, I don't think there was one person I didn't talk to from third and fifth period. There were 25 students and I think each one of us ended up having a deep conversation on the trip and we all just became so close. Um I was very grateful that this trip allowed me to branch out and meet new people, create new friendships, and good memories with everyone in having to experience everyone's first with them. And with that being said, do you guys have any questions for any of us? How many kids are going on this trip? How many kids How many kids are going on this trip? Coming

017up or did we take? Um how many would do we have next year coming up? I have no idea. I'm retiring. Well, you're not getting out of it that easy, Mr. Parks. That That That right there is the easy stock answer. Um How many do you have room for? Uh we have The most we've ever taken is 38. Um and this this trip will continue um with uh with the right person in charge, with with me mentoring, I guess I could say that. >> [laughter] >> And did I hear you had 25 go this year? Okay. With two of our students, I appreciate you being here tonight. That's not an easy thing to come up here and uh talk to everyone about your experience, but I would tell you um Huntington is blessed on on

018taking these sort of opportunities for our kids. Uh I was amazed a few years ago when a group went to um you know, the southern part of Florida and explored things for our class, and I can see the value to it, but I will also tell you uh it's not only uh important to you, it's important to us as leaders in the district and our board and our community. So, uh the more of this the better, and I appreciate uh Mr. Park and Dr. Park's investment in the kids, but I appreciate the kids being here tonight and to share their experience. It goes a long way with people like us and on the board to understanding the value of this. So, thank you. And since this was the last official trip that Dr. Park and

019I will be leading, um this year we had a commemorative sticker for uh for apes made, and so we're going to bring We had extra made for all of you as well. So, uh please take one as a on behalf of us as a huge thank you. And Dr. Park uh Mr. Park, I did really enjoy the first chart. That is kind of nice. So, nice job. Thank you. Well done tonight. Thanks, everyone. All right, moving to C3. HCCS and Ryan and Taylor Tobin MOU and fire rescue release of liability form. Thank you for being here tonight, Principal Drummond. Hey, I'm on time this time. I I I didn't make out as well, but thank you for being here. Thank you. Well, good evening. I'm excited to present two documents to you tonight that you've

020received in advance. The first is an MOU between Huntington schools and Ryan and Taylor Tobin. The Tobers are The Tobens are collectors of fire engines and they brought a very generous offer for you tonight. They have purchased a 1991 Pierce Dash fire engine and have generously offered to lend this fire engine to the LC's fire and rescue program. The engine will be used as a teaching aid within the program allowing our students the chance to train on an actual fire engine. Additionally, we'll be able to use the fire engine as a marketing tool putting it in local parades and homecoming. We'd hope to have it here tonight, but the Tobens are adding the Viking decal and some additional stickers and so it's prepped and ready for its sticker appointment and it can't get wet, but

021we'd love to bring it to a future meeting. The Tobens along with our fire and rescue instructor Jason Myers here tonight in case the board has any questions. The documents you received in advance outline the responsibilities of both parties. Are there any questions at this time? Looks like we're good. Okay. The second document is just a release of liability form that our students would complete prior to training on the fire engine. So, we're only voting on the MOU or do we need to vote on both documents? Should >> I would suggest both documents tonight. Yes. Cool. Floor is open for a motion. Motion to approve the donation of the fire truck from Ryan and Taylor Tobin, the MOU and fire rescue release of liability form. I got a first from Matt Melcher and a second

022from Kent Thompson. Any further discussion? Hearing none, all in favor of motion on the floor say I. I. I. Opposed, same sign. Motion carries 6-0. Thank you, Tiffany. Thank you. Moving on to the consent agenda, Mr. Brimberry. Uh Mr. Wall, board and community, we've got several items on the consent agenda I'd like to draw your attention to. Um I'll bounce around a little bit here and take questions if needed. Uh number seven, administrative job descriptions. Um I know that you've had time to review um for our public and um had a couple of questions. You know, I I noticed that when Mr. Peters was director of elementary and Mr. Brimberry was the director of secondary, that those positions have changed in title tonight. I'd like to explain a little bit about that. Um what Jay

023and formerly Mr. Trout uh when he was leading uh in our district and I do see here uh here tonight. It's nice to have John back. Uh we looked at a functionality and what the jobs evolved into was Mr. Peters was handling a lot of the state testing and the academics. I was handling an awful lot of the secondary, but also uh the building projects, operations, and other things that may be above the principal level. And so, a good question might have been, "Well, what really is a deputy superintendent?" You have the job description, but the functionality of it I'd like to be clear on. A deputy is a really nice name for an assistant superintendent. I filled that role for uh Mr. Trout in the past and in the functional behavior of what was

024going on in central office. Although it's a new title, it's not really a new position. I've just tried to clarify the job description to fit exactly what these two positions really do. One of the things Mr. Peters and I uh struggled with was we got very busy in operations, very busy with bonds and building projects. I I see Terry, I think I saw him more than most family members there for a while, and and it was pulling us in different directions from the academics if you will. So, the functionality of the director of teaching and learning is K-12 academics. Previously, Jay did that for this corporation. He's done that for me and and Mr. Trout as well. The assistant sup when Mr. Trout stepped away or had to be out of the corporation is the

025things that I've been doing. All of operations, some of the things maybe above the principal level, certain things legally and otherwise for the district. And so, what we've tried to do is take what really was happening and put titles and job descriptions to the functional behavior of central office. So, same two spots, some little bit different on the job description, and we've hired with those skill sets in mind in terms of tonight. Before I move on, any questions on those two positions? I know the board's pretty familiar with those. Thank you. Some other things on the agenda tonight that I want to draw attention to. I believe I told you I'd bring back to you the summer hours recommendation from Mr. Klausing in terms of the people that'll be working for him and the pay

026rate. Those have been updated. I know you've had a chance to review those. I would also tell you that Mr. Klausing has done a wonderful job. One of the ongoing projects for HCCS has been how are we going to scan and get all student files to a manageable electronic version and who has time and when to do those things. This has really been looked at a couple of different methods and I really appreciate Mr. Klausing's process that he's going to use and how long this might take here, but we're allowing for volunteers from the secretarial position. We've got some people who are interested in that in terms of the number of hours might be needed to begin this process effectively at HCCS to scan these files so we do not have to keep the um

027boxes upon boxes upon boxes. Uh and I know Mr. Trout and uh formerly Mr. Sumpter began this process in the past as well. So, just letting you know the plan and there would be some requested hours. I know Mrs. Babcock and I both reviewed those. I know um Mrs. Lockmire, Mrs. Gray, and Jay did as well, and we feel we're very proud of Russ's recommendation for that that's on there tonight. Um couple other things uh as you can tell, field trip requests um you've had a chance to review, uh leave request. Um [snorts] Michelle could or Mrs. Babcock, could you talk a little bit about supplemental pay resolution maybe in terms of that process? Yes. So, um also in this consent items is a supplemental pay for established for a teacher that has been working

028at the learning center um that has been working his prep period the entire school year. Um so, we thought it was the right thing to do would be to pay him for that. This particular supplemental pay or resolution um is set for specifically like in general terms, so we could do that in the future if we needed to. Um and if that particular um teacher continues on with that, we will take that at a later date into the beginning of July or July board meeting um to allow him to have it throughout his pay. Um so, we can adjust it accordingly if we needed to. But this then allows us to pay him accordingly. For uh transparency purposes, um the discussion of this began um several months back of what this looks like. Please know

029the gentleman in uh that were we're setting the system up for, it not only is extremely valuable to learning center, but it benefits this corporation greatly. It's a capstone course that we receive um funding from the state of Indiana when he teaches that. So, he is in demand. The learning center continues to grow um far larger than the appropriate pay for him as the district receives money for that. It's truly a win-win. Uh the process that Mrs. Babcock has is bringing to us previously [snorts] I had another district but what I would tell you is it's always based on budget. It's not automatic in any one situation but we would review a request from principal for consideration. If somebody's going to teach a half a year or full year and not have their prep, number

030one it has to be needed, number two it has to be something that we couldn't do at another time but number three it has to be within our budget. This fits all of those categories very well and the district benefits and certainly our outstanding teacher has done this with the understanding that he would be compensated appropriately at some point and I appreciate his patience and professionalism during this process but I also appreciate Mrs. Babcock solidifying the process here that we'll bring forward but in the July meeting hopefully contractually in the future. Yes. And I'd like to add that on the HR report you will see his his stipend and now associated with that resolution. It specifies it in the HR. Before board I get to you'll see the annual expulsion examiner agreements. This is the

031same as you've had in the past of two of our retired administrators. We don't have many of them but when we do they do a wonderful job. That one's in there annually at this time of year. I would also like to talk a little bit about some of the individuals tonight that are on the consent agenda. And uh the first one is this fine lady to my left and she's made me behave but we'll honor her appropriately June 22nd with Mr. Peters on their last particular board meeting but Mrs. Gray has officially had put in and she told us this might happen one day for her retirement. I believe she's been with the district 30 and a half years Cindy. I believe she has been in her current position 22 years. I believe she has

032had eight superintendents that include some interims as well. I don't know if you counted me twice or once, but we'll check the math on that, Mrs. Gray. And I say that because this lady is the epitome of professionalism, has dedicated her life and professional knowledge to this district at a very, very high level. I see one of her former bosses is back there tonight with Mr. Trout in honor of her. But board, I just want to recognize that on June 22nd between Mr. Peters and Mrs. Gray, we'll honor them. But we do have some things tonight for after the board meeting for Mrs. Gray, and I'm sure that some of you will have some thoughts on her commitment and uh and other things for this district. But I for one, Cindy Gray, from the interim,

033from my past 3 and 1/2 years, and now as superintendent, you have been the ultimate professional for Huntington County schools. And I'm not You said don't make us don't say too much tonight. That's not you, but I would just tell you your professionalism and expertise are valued at the highest level that I've been involved with in my 4 or 5 years, something like that. And so I appreciate all you've done for the district, and I know everyone else would would agree with that. So thank you. Other things that are on there tonight, I am blessed. We have We've interviewed a little bit lately, and we were amazed at the candidate pool that we had difficult decisions on for the board. And I know I've tried to keep you in the loop, but each of these

034positions had a committee. Those committees were of directors and or administrators. All of the members that I'm recommending tonight were unanimous within each of the separate committees. All the committees were different. And so I would tell you tonight I'm honored after the vote goes tonight, I will have them come up to the mic as we traditionally do in Huntington. Say a few words. I know some are looking forward to that. And I say that because I'm going to start with the Deputy Superintendent position. We were [snorts] blessed to have some top end candidates for this position. I am thrilled, honored, and excited for Huntington County Community Schools. As you'll be voting on adding Kenny Hanson who is the past eight years has been Superintendent at North Miami Schools. And when I say Superintendent, he is

035a highly successful Superintendent at North Miami Schools. He is the epitome of a professional. He is a humble servant of children. He is a I guess I'm going to say this, an outstanding family man, father. I've seen him in a lot of capacities as a community leader. He is the whole package and Huntington is just so fortunate to have adding him to our team and Rebecca. As I she wouldn't ask me to say that, but I promise you it's it's wonderful to see Kenny and his family joining our team here in a little bit. We'll give him an opportunity to to speak after the vote. Secondly, our Director of Teaching and Learning. Boy, was that applicant pool heavy with talent. It was a very difficult decision, but I can tell you bar none one of

036the most highly respected people in this district, but also in my career is joining our team in a different position. She's been a part of our leadership team, but Lynn Brown will be the recommendation tonight for Director of Teaching and Learning. I personally have not been around a person that cares as deeply about Huntington, is a professional through and through, but also has an intense passion for the academic achievement of all children. And her passion came through not only in her life's work in Huntington, but also in her interview with our committee. So, I'm honored to recommend Lan in the uh director of teaching and learning, which also known as is following Mr. Peters and his academic leadership. Big shoes to fill, and I know she'll do a wonderful job. Um I'm pleased to tell

037you and our community and our board that our interim technology director, Russ Klausing, was unanimous within his committee and has done a wonderful job. And again, a very talented uh applicant pool, very difficult decision, but Russ has not only stabilized, has moved us forward in a very short period of time as the interim. I've been extremely impressed with his professionalism, his responsiveness, and his ability to take situations and quickly make them a positive for Huntington schools. I have heard more from the community on hoping we consider him than I have on most positions in my career. So, I know he's well received in terms of our leadership team, but also the community. >> [snorts] >> And I'm honored uh on the fourth person who would not want me to talk too much about her because

038she's very humble. But Tanya Lot Tanya Lochmyer is uh been several years in the district, has been uh the right-hand uh person of Jay Peters and and sometimes Chuck Brimberry, depending on the the time of year. But I will tell you she is dedicated to Huntington. She's very talented. She is a humble servant of others. She is a great mom, a great She travels with her kids all over, great family in our community, uh Huntington North graduate, and I'm really, really honored to be able to work with her in her new role as executive secretary following another uh awfully good uh person with Cindy Gray. So, board, I wanted you to hear about those four. We'll take some pictures after the vote, but uh to be honest with you, I'm humbled to bring you this

039talented team tonight for your consideration. Thank you. Thank you, Mr. Brimberry. That's a jam-packed full uh consent agenda. On that note, I have of course open for a motion to approve the [snorts] consent agenda. Motion to approve the consent agenda. Mr. Melcher. I I got Gary over there. Any item that you would like pulled off the consent agenda before we vote? Hearing none, any discussion about the consent agenda? Thank you for Mrs. Babcock for the explanation of the the supplemental pay resolution. You answered before I had a chance to even ask. So, thank you for that. Hearing no other questions, all in favor of the consent agenda and the motion to approve it say aye. Aye. Aye. Opposed, same side. Motion carries 6-0. Board, I believe this might be a time to pause here so

040we can get some pictures with Mr. Butler. I know we have a few, so we'll try to be respectful of everyone's time tonight, but if we could have maybe Mr. Hanson up first. I'm going to have him say a few words and then I'm going to have as soon as he's done, we'll take pictures and we asked Rebecca, we're going to invite you up, too, and and you can run for the door, but we'll we want to make sure you're part of the family as well. So, Kenny, welcome to Huntington County Community Schools. I'm honored to have you. Yeah, good evening. I'm very excited to be here. I want to thank the board for this opportunity. I've spent the last 22 years in education. It was a great way to start this meeting to see

041a trip to the Keys and the green team. I was a biology and AP environmental teacher myself at one point and so I've served at the building level and the last 13 years as an assistant superintendent and the last 8 years as a superintendent. So, I I'm ready to get to work to serve this community. Um excited to put what I've learned, you know, through the good times and the bad times as as an administrator. And I think those things can benefit here at Huntington. Um looking forward to working with this team as a board, uh the administrative team with Mr. Brimberry, our our building level administrators, the staff and students of this community, um and can't wait to to get started. So, Thank you and welcome, Mr. Hanson. I want to welcome you on

042behalf to Huntington. We'll take some pictures, but welcome to Huntington. >> [applause] >> All right, our next person we'd like to address the board and our community is our new director of teaching and learning and and again Lan, I was pretty kind on but I will tell you I'm grateful what you've given to this school system. There's no person I'm more excited to work with in your new position. So welcome. Thank you and you didn't make me cry. I appreciate that very much. I'd like to thank Chuck. He did a wonderful job making this comfortable. Cindy was outstanding in her professionalism as we went through this. Jay Peters, thank you for all you've taught me and all you're going to teach me in the next couple of months. I appreciate it. Thank you for the

043board for your support in every position I've had. Every 3 years they change my job title and this one is so big that my family came. My mom and dad and my sister came. I think they thought I was fibbing and they wanted to make sure this was a real thing. About 30 years ago, sometimes it feels like 15 minutes but sometimes it does feel like 30 years especially Monday after prom and post prom. Van Bailey didn't really interview me. He just sat me across from his desk. He really loved to hire former Vikings and he said to me Lenny, if you get this job, you need to make sure that you remember everything you do doesn't just reflect on you but it reflects on the school and the community and if you mess up

044your mom's going to hear about it in the grocery store and your your dad's going to hear it about it at elevator. That's where you sell grain, Chuck. It's not the elevator. And your grandparents are going to hear about it in Sunday school. And that has all been true for more than 30 years. The community is amazing. Our students are amazing. Um kids were helping me carry trash out in their own post-prom at 2:00 in the morning cuz they were afraid for Ms. Brown to go out in the dark by herself. Right? That's how sweet our kids are. I spent the day working with teachers who are rewriting curriculum again because they felt like they weren't pushing kids quite as hard as they could be pushed. And they were excited and they were thrilled. And

045my administrative team are here to support me tonight. I can't tell you how blessed I am. Russ Daggett is in the comments, but he was sending me texts. He's with the basketball team. So, the last thing I said to Van during that interview was, "I know, boss, but the Bible says I work for the Lord." And so, I'm going to work for the Lord and the kids and the teachers and you all for the next little bit. Thank you so much for your kindness. >> [applause] >> Mr. Butler, if you could have just the board only with Ms. Brown, that would be great. Yep, thank you. >> Mr. Butler, that our last photo op for tonight after the meeting, we'll get the other two with our board vice president tonight, but I am excited to

046have Mr. Klausing come up to the mic if he would come on up. And Russ, thank you again for not only your work as interim, your commitment to Hennepin County Community Schools, but I'm extremely excited for you in your new leadership position. Um, I know from experience, Mr. Klausing, that sometimes the interim tag has its benefits and and challenges. So, you've handled that with class and professionalism and honored to have you as our director of technology tonight. So, thank you for your service and I'm looking forward to the future with you. Thank you. And it's been a blessing to be able to be in the interim position. I've I've learned a lot. I've worked with people that I didn't get a much of a chance to before and I get to work hand-in-hand with them

047now. I can really get to see where the ship's going and being able to be part of the team that guides it. And so, I just want to say thank you and uh I look forward to being able to continue to be part of this team. Thank you, Russ. >> [applause] >> And our most excited to come up here is uh Mrs. Lockmeyer and I'm just thrilled uh Tanya to to welcome you to um a different level of the team and I know you're excited about it. You'll do a wonderful job as you assimilate, but also take leadership roles uh as executive secretary. So, thank you for your commitment, but thank you also for being a part of the team at the next level. Um, first I want to take a moment and just say

048thank you not only to the board, but to the superintendent, um, to Jay who has been my mentor um for the past several years. Um, over the past 5 years, I have been the administrative assistant for the curriculum for K-12 both under Mr. Bremberry and Mr. Peters. Uh um Um I've had the privilege in working alongside dedicated leaders supporting important initiatives and gained a deeper understanding for the work that drives our district forward. Um those experiences have prepared me um well for this next step. Um I'm excited to continue serving this district in a new capacity, and I look forward to supporting the superintendent and the school board with the same level of dedication, professionalism, and the detail that I've strived to bring to my current role um over the past 5 years. Um so,

049thank you again for your support, your leadership, and your commitment to our schools. I'm eager um to begin the next chapter and um contribute to continue to contribute to the success of this district. Thank you very much. >> [applause] >> That's it. We'll move on to special. All right, moving on to E1, special presentation for the Huntington Township School Memorial Plaque at Horseman Elementary. I had the privilege and honor to meet some great people that took me down a memory lane and and gave me a history lesson. And so, let me introduce them. Uh Terry's not here. Terry Daily is the chairperson of the alumni committee for Huntington Township schools. Sharon McCourt is the secretary treasurer, and uh Rita Michael is a committee member, uh and Rita's going to come up and and and share

050what a proposal that they have for you as the board. But also, Georgia Smith is here as a committee member. Um Huntington Township Bearcats um and again, where the current Horseman building sits currently right now is the the former home of Huntington Township Bearcats from 1925 to 1966. And so, Rita, if you want to come forward, the mic should be on there and share with the board your proposal. Uh board tonight after Rita's is uh finished, uh we would be asking for a board approval to move forward with our recommendation. Good evening, members of the board, Superintendent Brombury, and distinguished guests. They say that home is a place where you grow up wanting to leave and grow old wanting to get back to. For those of us who attended the Huntington Township School, that building

051was far more than just a collection of bricks and mortar. It was the heartbeat of our community. It was where we learned our first lessons in civic duty, where we forged lifelong friendships, and where we developed the character that we carry with us today. Our school stood then where where Horseman Elementary stands today. Though the architecture has changed, the ground ground remains sacred to the history of education in Huntington County. I come before you tonight on behalf of the Huntington Township Alumni Board. We are here because we believe that while buildings may eventually fall, the legacy of what happened inside them should never be forgotten. We are here not merely to lament the end of an era, but more importantly to ask for your help in building a bridge, a bridge between that storied past

052and the generations of students yet to come. Our request is simple, yet deeply meaningful. We are seeking your formal approval to place a permanent memorial plaque of the former Huntington Township School on the existing brick base that currently houses the school bell at Horace Mann Elementary. If you visit that site today, you will see the bell from the former Horace Mann School. It sits there as a silent witness to history. Our goal is to give that silence a voice, to add the story that completes the picture of this location's heritage. We did not come to this decision lightly, nor did we come unprepared. We understand the responsibility you have to maintain the integrity and the safety of our school grounds. That is why in early March, three of our members met with Mr. Peters, the

053director of elementary education, Mindy Royce, the principal of Horace Mann, and Tanya Lockmeyer. We wanted to ensure that our vision aligned with the daily operations and the aesthetic of the school. It was a productive and incredibly encouraging meeting. They saw the value in this tribute and suggested that our next formal step should be to present our plan to you, the board. In the folders presented to you tonight, you will find the fruits of our labor. Evidence that this is professional, fully vetted, and community-backed project. First, you will see a photo of the original Huntington Township School. This is the image we intend to preserve. The We have worked closely with the Huntington County Historical Museum to ensure that we are using a high-quality, historically accurate representation. This draft honors the years 1925 through 1966, the

054years of the first and last graduating classes. It proudly displays our mascot, the Bearcat. It serves as a permanent record of a time when Bearcat pride was the talk of the township. Second, we have a provided a photo of the proposed location. I want to emphasize that we aren't asking for new construction. We are asking to utilize the 48-in by 98-in brick base that is already a part of the Horseman landscape. Third, we have included a scale drawing. While we aren't architects by any means, we have been careful in our calculations. The proposed plaque is 23 and 1/2 inches wide by 35 inches high. As a drawing illustrates, it will fit proportionally and elegantly on the wall. It is designed to look as though it was always meant to be there. Finally, we included a

055brief history of the school taken from our local historical archives. This document reminds us that from the moment those doors opened in 1925, that school was a corner cornerstone of Huntington County's commitment to education. >> [snorts] >> I want to emphasize two critical points that I know are of importance to this board, quality and cost. We have already contacted a local business, Trophy Center Plus, to provide the quote and the craftsmanship. We believe in keeping the this local project, supporting the businesses that support our schools. We want this plaque to be a testament to local excellence. Furthermore, this project comes at absolutely no cost to the school district or its taxpayers. The alumni board have been moved by the outpouring of support. We have been receiving donations from former students, families, and community members, and

056are eager to see this happen. I am proud to report that we have nearly met our entire funding goal. The community doesn't just want this, they are paying for it out of their pockets because they believe in the importance of this memorial. Members of the board, you might ask, why does this matter? Why place a plaque for a school that closed in 1966 at an elementary school in 2026? It matters because the students walking through the doors at Horseman today are the heirs of the legacy the Bearcats started nearly a century ago. When a student looks at that plaque, they won't just see an old building. They will see that they are a part of a long, proud tradition of learning in Huntington County. They will see that they belong to a community that remembers

057its roots and honors those who come before. By approving this plaque, you aren't just honoring the past. You are showing today's students that their education, their school spirit, and their history matter. You are ensuring that the end of an era isn't a disappearance, but a transformation into a lasting legacy. It has been our board's great pleasure to look into the past to find this treasure. We are now asking for your partnership to make in making it a permanent part of our future. We respectfully request your approval to proceed with the installation to of the Huntington Township Memorial Plaque. We would like to have your support so that we may share it at our 38th and final alumni banquet on May 9th this year. Thank you for your time, your dedication, your dedicated service to our

058children, and for your consideration of this request. I'm happy to answer any questions. Thank you. I just want to thank you and and your alumni group for doing this. Um I am a student of history myself and I love history and I was not aware of this. So, I appreciate that and I I loved your comments about making sure that current students of the the building know what was there in the past. So, I appreciate that and thank you. Thank you. Are you ready for a motion? Yeah, sorry. I make a motion that we allow the bell allow the plaque on the bell wall at Horace Mann School. I have a motion by Gary. Do I have a second? Second. Seconded by Deb Miller. Any further discussion? Hearing none, all in favor of the motion

059say aye. Aye. Opposed, same sign. Motion carries 6-0. Thank you for being here tonight. Much appreciated on your presentation. Thank you. Thank you. Um moving on to F1, financial reports. Yes, so um in your paper packet and original packet online um is the March financials. And as we go through that closer. Okay, sorry. I need to speak up a little bit more. Sorry. Okay, so with the uh March financials for the education fund, um we were really right on track with with our expenditures um revenue coming in about 25% um on target um where we need to be and also 23% expenditures um for the end of March. So, we're right on target for March. Um ending balance is 13,477,296. Um moving on to the debt service fund. Again, there's no activity in the debt

060service fund. We will see revenue come in and expenditures go out in June. Um and so you will see that in reported in July for June. Moving on to the operations fund, um that of course we will not see the revenue the majority of our revenue come in until June for that Um through property tax revenue. And then with our expenditures, we're really right on target with our expenditures as well. We did have some higher expenditures at the a couple months before when January and February we're starting to level out a little bit now. So we're really on track for where we need to be. Moving on to the rainy day fund, absolutely no activity whatsoever for that one. So we're holding steady at 3.9 million. And so now I'll move on to the historical

061comparison. If you look at the education fund, you'll see we're at that 3.5 million that I just talked about. And that is approximately 31% cash balance against our appropriation. So we're really healthy still there. And then I will move on to the operations. We're at 699,000. It is low, but it is still higher than we were last year at this time compared to our expenditures versus our appropriation. But we're still strong and we'll we'll be continued to be fine. Just because I love asking questions and I know you won't have an answer to this tonight, but I'm looking for maybe at the next board meeting when you present financials is just an update on food service. That's one of the other funds that I kind of watch. I know we're getting towards the end of

062the year. Just curious how the health on the food service, where we're at. I do know it's in the all and I have an idea, but I would just love to have an idea at the next board meeting or even at a work session. We could just maybe have a touch base on that and see where we're at and how we're doing and how the year has progressed. Sure. Can do that. But other than that, everything else looks good. It looks like we've got a couple of good good months in there without three pay periods. So I was watching those numbers come through. Everything's looking good. And I like you I'm watching the operations fund and hoping for their June settlement, so. Yes, absolutely. All right. On that note, is there a motion to approve

063the financial reports for March 2026? I make a motion to accept the financial report as presented. Thank you, Gary. Is there a second? Second. I got Ken first. He was closer to me, so. Any other comments? Hearing none, all in favor of the motion say aye. All in favor of the motion, say aye. Aye. Opposed, same sign. Motion carries 6-0. Moving on to the renewal of the Synovia Solutions. Um yes, so this Synovia Solutions renewal is for our transportation. Um it allows us to have our time and attendance, um dispatch monitor, um navigation systems, different things like that are tied to our transportation. And this is continuing on with that service. And so with that, I ask for approval. Thank you. Is this a This is a yearly fee, too, right? It's annual. Yes, that

06443k is annual. Yeah. Cool. Is there a motion on the floor to approve the lease agreement? Or the agreement? Thank you, Ken. Is there a second? Second. Thank you, Gary. Any further discussion? Hearing none, all in favor of the motion always say aye. Did you have something, Aaron? What What What all does that cover? I know it tracks the buses. Does that have the program that also makes the routes and stuff, too, or Um it does have, I believe, the Come on up, Vanessa. >> Is Vanessa in here? She is. I saw her back. She put her hand up. I told her to come on up. Thank you for being here tonight, by the way. Yep. Okay, so no, it does not route our our routes. That's a whole separate thing. Um so, we're actually

065kind of switching Um we've had Synovia for about 10 years. I spent the last 2 years demoing all kinds of different products just to kind of see like what other GPS um products were out there, talked to other school districts what they're using. We use our GPS for a few things. Um we are kind of switching and adding the navigation. So, what that will do is um our our current subs right now have a piece of paper. So, when they're driving, they've got a piece of paper. This will allow them to have audio turn-by-turn. So, instead while they're driving, they're not looking at a piece of paper. It's telling them what to do. So, from a safety function, that's a lot better. Originally, 5 years we have a 5-year contract. So, 5 years ago, Indiana

066did not allow that. So, I did not spend money to purchase something that we couldn't use legally. Um so, that's one of the changes that we are shifting. We demoed that with some drivers, had them try it out, see how it works. It works in the reservoir area, in case you're wondering. Um that was kind of our big our big uh does this work here? It um allows us to know where our buses are all the time. We can see when they put their yellow lights on, when they put their red lights on, if they use their um brake, we know if they have a harsh brake, harsh turn. We can track them anywhere they're at. So, that part's really good. If someone says they're speeding, we can tell. We also use that for our

067stop arm violations. So, I worked with the prosecutor in Huntington to say what do you need to be able to prosecute with video and without video because not all of our buses have stop arm cameras. And so, Synovia is unique in the aspect that they do things that other GPS companies do not do. Um we have been able to successfully prosecute for stop arm violations without cameras. We've lost zero utilizing our GPS. So the data that we're able to get where we can't touch it. It's all what you get is what you get. So you know, someone says the bus didn't stop. I can't change the information in it. Like it is what it is. We use it for our time and attendance so our drivers clock in clock out on their tablets. That's how

068they get paid. So their timesheets are created from their tablets inside their buses which also comes from their GPS. So all that's date and time stamped. They approve it in their buses and then we approve it so there's no paper. So no more paper. So that's another piece of it. This contract renewal will get us all new equipment. So we'll have new tablets, new LMUs, all new everything and they install it. So that's a big no cost on our end. So. Any other questions? >> Who I I have one question to you too. I see on here that it does a diagnostic so will your mechanics have access to that data too and be able to see what's going on? Yeah, we have that now. Cool. >> Yeah. Yeah. Our drivers do their pre-trip and

069post-trips in there. We also log our fuel usage in there. So when they go to get fuel um we're we're anti-paper. We're in the same building with technology in case you wondered. So we kind of try to do everything electronically. So when they go to get fuel they enter that into their tablet as well. And then same way with pre-trips and post-trips. So if they were to have an accident that's for one of the first things that state troopers ask for is was this bus pre-tripped? And that shows and they know it because they have to turn on their lights and there's special things that they have to do and our GPS tracks that. So we know if they really do their pre-trip or not. Thank you. Yeah. Any other questions for Vanessa? Thanks for

070coming. Yep. All So, we have a motion on the floor first by Ken, second by Gary. All in favor of the motion say I. I. Oppose motion, same sign. Motion carries 6-0. F3 2026 school summer staff, Mr. Peters. Mr. Wall and board, I bring to you the high school summer school staffing recommendations for this summer. First summer session will be June 1st through the 12th from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Breakfast and lunch will be served. Second summer session is planned for June 15th through the 26th. There's 14 teachers and four paraprofessionals that will be asking for your approval tonight. We also have summer I read at Flint Springs June 8th through the 26th of June from 8:00 to noon Monday through Friday. Breakfast and lunch will be served as well. We have 18 teachers

071that will be asking for approval tonight as well. And then something in my season career I have found one of the joys that I have is putting people in positions of success and empowering them and allowing them to use their skill set to enrich and enhance programs. And what I have in front of you is our summer I read staffing proposal. Our elementary summer I read coordinator Justin Shafer, who is currently the assistant principal at Flint Springs, he would coordinate our summer I read program. Secretaries Lori Satchell and Anita Henry would be sharing duties as coverage in the office. And then a lead teacher Lauren Davis does an excellent job at as a title teacher at Flint Springs helping to be a lead teacher to help coordinate our programming during our summer I read program.

072This is new. This is something we've never done before, but just a way to empower these people that have a lot of skill and expertise to help us uh our second and third grade students uh through that I read summer school. So, asking permission um for your acceptance of our summer school staff and our summer I read um coordination schedule. Thank you, Mr. Peters. Floor is open for a motion. Motion to approve the 2026 summer school staff as presented. Thank you, Matt. Is there a second? Second. Thank you, Gary. Further discussion? Looks like you have a good team set up there, Jay. Looks forward and hopefully have some good outcomes on that. >> Hearing no further discussion, all in favor of the motion say I. Opposed same sign. Motion carries 6-0. Uh F4 Diligent uh

073Community Quote. I believe that's Mr. Brombery. >> Well, board uh for your consideration, I think we had a wonderful presentation at the work session by Mrs. Gray and Mr. Klausing. For your consideration is the Diligent Community Quote tonight. Uh it is it is ironic that BoardDocs is not working on the night night we vote. Uh so, I will tell you I'm not sure about all that, but uh the Diligent Community Quote, remember they have owned uh BoardDocs. Uh Mrs. Gray did a wonderful job explaining that process. Um Mr. Klausing went through the transition, what that would look like, and Cindy tell me when exactly we would begin. I believe August you said? Yes, they will do all of the back end migration for us and yeah, it'll be Yeah. So, for your consideration tonight, Diligent

074Community Quote for uh replacing BoardDocs in our near future. Chuck, when does this take effect? Uh they'll start the transition um ASAP, then they'll start training us uh this summer, and then in August. >> one of these two are going to train me? Uh I believe I believe a team of people, Mr. uh Gary will uh will take care of you. That's it. It's going to be a big haul, but we got you. I turn it off and turn it back on again. All right, on that note the floor is open for a motion for the diligent community quote. Motion to approve the diligent community quote as presented. Thank you, Matt. Is there a second? Second. Thank you, Gary. Any further discussions? Anyone want to volunteer now to help Gary? On that note all in

075favor of the motion say I. I. >> I. Opposed same sign. Motion carries 6-0. If we log in the board docs, it's probably working now since we voted. Probably it just all of a sudden started working. >> We had a lot of theories of how this may happen today. Yes. Moving on to G1, a substitute teacher handbook for 2026-27, Miss Babcock. Yes. Um so in your packet is the just the revisions version of this and this will be the first reading and we'll bring it back to you next month to approve. Um or if there's any other additional items we need to adjust. And then so just going through this are pretty minor items in in the substitute handbook just that updating the address on the first page there. Um and the dates moving along

076to you have those approved. On page three you'll see we're just updating some of the personnel associated with the particular buildings. And we've also made it made a director of human resource a like a generic um email if you will so that it'll go directly to that person and they can monitor that. Instead of having tied to a specific person. Um it makes it easier for a future for future um handbooks. And then moving on we really didn't have any changes until page eight. Um under the rate of pay for substitute teachers, um, we added in there the consecutive. Um, and that is because per Indiana code 20-28-9-7, it says in there that's consecutive. And there was some confusion on that, so we wanted to be clear that that was included. Um, we also updated

077the rate of pay, um, to adjust with the rate of pay in our teacher agreement. Um, and so that um, at the bottom of the page there, we also updated and removed some items associated with our um, frontline um, absence management system to align with that. And then we're removing some items that we are not currently using and updating the phone number, so it's pretty basic information at this point. If you do see anything that needs to be addressed, please let myself, um, Miss Kevin McCormick here, who has done an excellent job in and and get gathering this information, and um, Dr. Sager. Any questions for the substitute handbook? And this is first reading, so we won't do a motion tonight, but I did notice in the back that we're not we're dropping the, let

078me get the right phrase, the video professional development. How are we going to make sure our uh, uh, substitute teachers stay trained, for lack of a better term, or what what is the professional development we're going to provide them? We're not currently using that particular one, so we will come we will have something in time that will be established. Cool. Thank you. >> accurate right now. Well, that's good then we're moving it. Thank you. Anyone else have any questions? If not, let's go to G2 admin handbook. Okay, so moving on to the administrator handbook. Um, there were just a few again changes here, updating um, director benefit, things like that, and striking out some items that necessarily are not associated with administrators. Um, and then under life insurance, just adding in there under for the

079superintendent, um, as defined reference in his or her contract, um, as that can vary according to um Mr. Berry's uh current contract. So, we wanted to be clear that way we don't have to change that every single year um to reflect that. And then moving down to uh bottom of page one, um any unused sick days above the maximum shall be paid annually on July 1st at 50% of the highest substitute teachers daily rate. Um payment to the administrator shall be made into the 401A plan administered by the vendor selected to accept employer contributions. And as we found in researching this that we were following this process, but it was not documented. And so, this is just documenting what we are doing our practices, making it clear for everyone. Thank you. I was going to

080ask about that, so I appreciate that. Uh yes. And then um page three, um just um adding the language so request must be in writing. And I think that's really it other than at the back end there are the updated um direct or deputy superintendent, those. And I did notice we do not have the director of human resources on here, so I'm going to add that. You're welcome. Thank you. So, that takes care of G1 and G2. Moving on to H1, award of bids for H and HS arena locker room renovations, Mr. Thornsberry. Pleasure having you back again today, sir. Thank you for the opportunity. I appreciate it. Um so, the first one we're going to go through is the varsity locker room renovation that's here at the high school. Um so, as you'll see

081from the bid tab that we provided, um we we bid this one at the beginning of this month. We had four bidders pick up drawings. Uh three of those four reached out to me and informed me that the project would not fit into their current summer construction schedule, so they did not turn in bids. Um so, we only received one bid, but um tell you a little history on this project. This project actually is one that um we started looking at back in 2025 and as the 2022 bond was working its way through spend down, we were trying to fit something else in at the end. So, this is the one that we kind of earmarked for that. And so, we were able to have enough funds to pursue this project. We We got it

082designed and then out to bid and um so, the remaining funds that are still in the 2022 bond will cover this project in its entirety. Actually, we'll leave a little bit left over for the school to to use on their own for maybe painting touch-ups or other things. Um this project does provide and remedy um a long-standing Title IX issue and creates equality for both girls and boys um cuz there is a special locker room within the locker rooms uh for varsity teams and uh this this design will remedy that issue and provide uh those special locker rooms for both girls and boys. Um this project also provides ADA access for student athletes, coaches, and staff uh which does not now it is not ADA at all. Um due to funding coming out of the

0832022 bond uh we're trying to close out that bond uh soon. Um we were concerned about possibly putting this back out to bid and wait another summer. We think prices are only going to go up with the economy that we're in right now. So, um timing-wise, to give you a little idea about timing for this project uh it is two phases. I presented this at the last meeting. So, phase one of this project would start uh this summer and then phase two would wrap up in the fall prior to the start of the basketball season. So, with that, I do recommend approval of the one bid that we did receive from J.G. Bowers in the bid amount of $820,000. And please note that J.G. Bowers is currently working in this building uh on the 2024

084restroom renovation project. So with that, any questions? And Terry, you did say this will include not only ADA, you mentioned making sure both locker rooms are equal and appropriate, but also restrooms as you've done throughout Huntington North and showers as well, correct? >> Correct. This provides new showers, individual shower stalls. So hopefully the showers will get used with shower stalls. >> Yes. Um and correct. Also showers, separate showers and restrooms for coaches as well, which are also ADA. Thank you. You're welcome. And I believe we talked about this in the work session, but just to reiterate, that just leaves what I would consider the PE girls and PE boys restrooms that have not been touched. Are those the only two sections that haven't been touched yet? Is that correct? >> Correct. Thank you. I guess

085I can keep on running the meeting. Uh any questions, additional questions for Terry? If not, floor is open for a motion. Motion to approve the bid for the Huntington North Arena locker rooms as presented. Thank you, Matt. Is there a second? Second. Thank you, Aaron. Any further discussions? Hearing none, all in favor of the motion say aye. Aye. Opposed same sign. Motion carries 6-0. Uh H2, award for the HCCS secure vestibule project. Okay, this This project we bid last week. We did have five bidders pick up drawings for this one. We did receive three bids as you'll see from the bid tab that we provided. ACB General Contractor was the low bid at $305,700. Construction is scheduled to start May 26th as soon as basically we we get past Memorial Day and then contracts will

086get started. Majority of the project will be completed during the summer and then some electrical and security work will be be completed once school starts. And I know that because we've already talked to ACB about their schedule and timing. Um So this is a 2025 bond project and I do recommend approval of ACB's bid in the amount of $305,700. Will summer school at Flint Springs because an issue with that or are we going to work around that schedule? We actually have a meeting set up for this Wednesday at 10:15 a.m. to meet with Rich and I invited all the principals to work out logistics and make sure that we can we can make it work. I'm glad you're so on it. Any other questions or comments? Hearing none, floor's open for a motion. I just

087shake your head back at him. Motion to approve the bid for the HCCS secure vestibules project. Thank you, Matt. >> Vestibules. Vestibules. Yes. >> Very good. Say that three times. Is there a second to the motion? Second. Thank you, Gary. Any further discussions? Just remind me just so I remember it's I know it's Salamonie, Andrews, Flint Springs, and Lincoln. Correct. I'm sorry. The triplets and Salamonie. Correct. I'm just checking my head, too. So we're all good. Uh Any other discussion? Hearing none, all in favor of the motion say I. I. Opposed same sign. Motion carries 6-0. And we're already at a change order. So number H3. Okay. So this is a rarity. I I have not presented one of these to you before because typically we have money in the bonds and we spend it

088down and do our best to to work through that and then any residual gets used by school corporation outside of Veridian. This one's a little bit different. So, this is um this change order is the cost of restrooms and I'll I'll say additional restrooms as part of the 2024 bond restroom renovation project for the high school. So, these additional restrooms include special needs, family consumer consumer science, and then the kitchen which back here behind us. Um Current balance that's in that bond that is not part of JG Bowers contract is $425,882.04. So, that's money that was never put into their contract. It was in the bond, but we didn't need it at the time to award that contract. So, it's money that's just been sitting there. So, what we decided through the help of Mr.

089Brimberry and others was let's try to get as much done as possible on for restrooms for this building. So, we decided to tackle those three spaces. So, This change order would come out of that $425,000 and I do recommend approval for this change order in the amount of $337, $656.20. Cool. Any questions? Okay, the floor is open for a motion. Motion to approve the Honey Creek North High School restroom renovation change order as presented. Is there a second? Second by Gary. This is the same group of people that are already working on the restroom, so it's just just keep doing the same thing. Is that correct? >> It is. They They We have a standard developed. They know what they need to do and we We're We're to get them started, but logistics it just

090made more sense to let them start as soon as school's out and they'll take over. So. Cool. Any other? Hearing none, all in favor of the motion say I. I. Opposed same sign. Motion carries 6-0. Thanks everyone, I appreciate it. Thank you, Terry. Moving on to I one Warren Redevelopment Commission and Warren Park Board. Um That is me. Uh we have a request from the town of Warren to appoint a member to the Redevelopment Commission and Warren Park Board. Uh Ken Thompson will be filling that as as he is the board member that covers that district. Um And so we need a motion to approve that appointment uh for both positions. Uh and so the floor is open for a motion. Motion to approve the appointment of Kenneth Thompson to the Warren Redevelopment Commission and

091Warren Park Board as presented. Is there a second? Second. Thank you. Uh Mr. Thompson, I appreciate your uh willingness to serve on the Redevelopment Commission and on the Parks Board. Uh Redevelopment Commission, I serve on the Redevelopment Commission for the City of Huntington. It's been a very educational experience. So if you have questions about that, I'm more than willing to sit down and and discuss it. Um I don't believe they meet very regularly, so it's not going to be a lot of board meetings, but uh it's always interesting and I appreciate your willingness to sit on that board. All of the Everyone in favor of the motion uh say I. I. Opposed motion same sign. Abstains? I. I have five one and one abstention from Mr. Thompson. Cool. Moving on to J1, items of discussion

092for board members. Go ahead. I just like to give a shout out to our students at the high school. Wednesday I attended the induction ceremony for the National Honor Society and it's always refreshing to see how hard our students are working. Um this doesn't start at the high school, it starts very early in their educational career and to see those students take such pride in their class work, it's a tribute to them, but it's a tribute to their parents and their teachers as well. Thank you. Anyone else? I'm just want to shout out that um I won't be here for Cindy's last meeting cuz I'm going to cry. So but Cindy, thank you. It's been an honor. So somebody got some big shoes to fill, but I think you'll do you'll do fine. You do

093have to work with Chuck every day, but you'll be fine. Thanks, Cindy. I just want to thank Mr. Brembry of getting his staff up to speed. There was a lot of great hires that we made tonight and I can't wait to see everyone being here and rowing in the same direction and I'll look forward to that. Um and to all the new members, new appointments, welcome to the corporation and I can't wait to get to meet you and and talk to you, at least the new ones and and I'll look forward to see what's going on. So. Board, just informationally, there's some I believe Tanya might have had to provide even for her own celebration tonight, but no job too small, right Tanya? And honoring Cindy and our new hires tonight. So I know we

094have a lot of things to eat over there, so please make yourself welcome after Ryan dismisses us. Mr. Wall. One more thing I'd like to add. Just appreciation to Ms. Drummond and the learning center for their encouragement and support of the fire and safety program. I understand that we have also introduced some new technology in that program and it's also my understanding that we are the first high school nationwide and maybe internationally to be able to use that technology. So, kudos, congratulations, good job. A lot of great things are going on at Huntington schools. So, it's I can't wait to have everyone know about it. Anything else? If not, I'm looking for a motion to adjournment. Thank you, Deb. Is there a second? I'll make that second. All in favor say I. I. Opposed same
