I call the meeting to order. We'll start with the Pledge of Allegiance. I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. I want to welcome everyone to the school board meeting this evening. We've got a full house and that's super exciting. Um I want to remind everyone we are live streaming this meeting, so the green light is on. So, we'll also welcome those who are joining joining us via the worldwide web. Um we'll start with a motion to accept consent agenda items. >> So moved. Motion by Pat. Do I have a second? >> Second. Second by Travis. Any discussion? All those in favor? 7-0. Um next we'll move down to community non-agenda items.

Um we have the JCHS The Kind Company. Yes, so the high school um is our showcase tonight and they have three different recognitions. We're going to start with The Kind Company. Hold on. Seth, you get to see him twice tonight because he's so important. So >> [laughter] >> Seth is one of our student leaders in The Kind Company. Um so, I'm just going to introduce us real quick. Um I'm Eanie. Miss Patella. Tracy Martin. Toby Gay. And who are you? Um yeah. This is Seth. So, we are here tonight just to kind of tell you about what we've been doing in our program and um Tracy's going to start us off real fast. Okay. Well, The Kind Company is a collaborative effort between teachers, paraprofessionals, and students and the goal is to create a community

uh centered on kindness, inclusivity, and purpose. Uh through hands-on projects, peer partnerships uh students work side by side to support one another, celebrate their differences, and build meaningful connections. Uh students work alongside each other as they have staffed and maintained The Kindness Closet, the um William Harmon pop-up shop, and we also did the St. Mary's November 8th uh Christmas Bazaar. So, our theme is going right along with our um school theme, which is built different. We are expected and challenged to raise the bar in every area of our school. Uh also, our district mission it supports our our district mission to inspire and empower our students to reach their full potential as lifelong learners. Uh simply put, we are JC. With this collaboration, students are building on the following: uh collaborative teamwork, problem solving, creativity,

responsibility, and cross-cultural teamwork. So, um obviously we couldn't do any of this with without funding. Um and you know, as much as we we've done our crafts and we've sold to raise our money, we actually this last year as well applied for the uh WHAS Crusade for Children Grant. Um and we were actually able to get um $10,000 from that. Um and as you can see here is just part of the equipment that we have. Um we brought in We also partnered this with the PVE program where we brought in um we had coffee makers, we had uh carts, shelving, we had anything from We had crickets, a laptop, iPads, anything that we needed to teach these kids to use some of their their abilities to for job skills afterwards. So, um that and like

and as you can see here, you know, this is just some of the stuff that we were able to purchase that we could put together with those kids. So. So, some of our endeavors included making some crafts to sell St. Mary's. Uh we made different things, Christmas ornaments, t-shirts, mugs were filled with candy, keychains, pens, um and all kinds of different things that we were able to sell uh to generate some funds for our program. Um as you can see there, there is the setup of St. Mary's, uh which I felt was very successful. Um we made quite quite a bit of money there. So, and the kids really felt empowered. Um they did a great job with working alongside each other. Uh it just It was a fantastic opportunity for them. And just some

other pictures showcasing them working side by side and just having some fun. And together we we feel as as uh we are building a stronger, kinder community of lifelong learners working together. Thank you. >> [applause] >> We wouldn't be here tonight if we didn't bring a little kindness with us. So, Seth, what have we been painting um this week? Oh, last week too and maybe a few weeks before cuz we're we're pretty perfectionists, aren't we? What have we been painting? Uh Our our birds, weren't we? We were doing birds. So, we have created a bird for each of you and we have um Could you just give me one word? We will pass them out. Actually, we're not going to take your time to pass them out now, but this is our example of some

of our creativity. This one is for Mrs. Johnson and it is a cardinal that we have painted and it even has a little it has a little um saying to go with it and we picked your bird because we have kind of made sure that we learned some things about you. So, um yours is presence and it has a little saying to go with it. So, I want you to read yours and um the statement at the end um these birds were painted by our students as a small way to say thank you. Each one represents a quality our schools depend on every single day. Like any thriving ecosystem, it takes every role, every strength, and every person working together. Because of you, our schools don't just function, they grow. So, each of you have

a different bird in the ecosystem. So, we want you to enjoy those and we hope you set them out and think of us, right Seth? And we have a lot of fun. If you come if you ever need a pick-me-up, I want you to come drive to Jennings County High School at 2:00 and we'll generally be outside because we're getting ready for buses and that sort of thing and we have binoculars and cameras and we are birders. So, uh so please come join us one day. You won't know what you're missing out on, but we will leave these in a box and we'll just kind of set them over here and you guys please get the back at the end. So, all right. Do you have anything to say? Don't look at me. I'm asking

you, buddy. You just [clears throat] want to tell them thank you. Yes. Yes. [laughter] He's telling me yes, he wants to tell you thank you. And there are also pamphlets outside if you would like to take one. Thanks. Okay, thank you. >> Thank you so much. Seth. And then Mr. Roller, I believe Uh-huh. we will roll in in just a minute to winter sports recognition. Mr. Harper >> Good pun by rolling right into it. First off, I would like for both of you to be to be up front and center. Yeah. They're scared to come in. Right here in the middle. Do you want us us to get up so that they can face the camera? Yeah. Yeah. It's fine. Everyone's facing you in here. Uh senior stuff. Can't get away from it right now.

I don't want to talk to save it. All right, good evening. It's my honor to recognize the 2025-2026 Jennings County Lady Panther basketball team. Their season season was nothing short of spectacular, culminating in the program's first ever final four appearance. Along the way, the team secured a share of the Hoosier Hills Conference title and notched an impressive 20 and 7 record. After a series of all state post season victories over Lawrenceburg, Greensburg, Silver Creek, and Washington, their historic journey ended in a hard-fought battle against Roncalli. Along the way, the team ignited a level of school spirit and community pride that perfectly that perfectly captures and makes Jennings County great. You know, that's the fun most fun part about the like was the way the community rallied behind us, the schools. And we're going around with

all the schools like it was a lot of fun for all of you guys to see the school spirit. So, that was a lot of fun. I want to introduce our coaches and and players. We don't have everybody here. We have some girls playing softball right now. We have some girls in a track meet right now. We have some working at the park right now. But, coaches Christie Sigler, our head coach, assisted by Bill Lane, Emma Campbell, Erica Brown, and Levi Burn. Players, if they have your name called, just wave your hand. Carmody Loman. >> [laughter] >> Ella Hubbard's not here. Haley Donnell's not here. Addison Kent. Bradley Metcalfe. Caden Sloman. Addison Petro. Riley Byford's playing softball. They're winning right now. Addison Grundon. Where's she at? She's working. Working. Working, she is, that's right. Madison

Johnson's playing softball. Mookie Ratcliff's working. Amelia Gresham. Eileen Heffo's running track right now. Gabby Moran, our videographer. Addy Young. And Molly Earnest. I mentioned them last, so I want to highlight some state recognition they got this year. Addy [snorts] Young's a junior for us this year, and she was all HAC first team. IBCA underclass large school all state. She was the IC GSA second team, voted in there. All district for the HBCA district three underclass. And this year, she'll represent Indiana as a junior all-star. We also want to We also >> [applause] >> I'm going to write a book on Molly. We want to recognize senior Molly Earnest for a record-breaking career. Molly set the new single-season record and scoring record with 647 points, and became the all-time leading scorer in school history with 1,792

career points. She is also tied, which is I think most impressive, for the most assists in a career with 322, and a season assist record for 121 assists. Molly is also tied for the most career three-pointers with 269 three-pointers. So, that in itself is probably deserving of a round of applause. >> [applause] >> So, with those stats, Molly was selected to be the in the HAC first team. She was IBCA senior supreme 15, IC GSA first team, HBCA East all-star, McDonald's All-American nominee, and will represent Indiana as an Indiana all-star this year for for our seniors. >> [applause] >> Obviously, we are so proud of their accomplishments. They came together to achieve something great that hasn't been done in program history in our school's history. Lady or ladies and gentlemen, our 2025-2026 Lady Panther basketball

>> [applause] >> Board members, I did ask Molly if she would sign autographs for you guys, but after eighth grade tours this morning, her wrist is sore. >> [laughter] >> She's not going to be able to. I I'm surprised I didn't see on the list of accomplishments that she had >> [laughter] >> All right, 1 2 3. >> [laughter] >> Several of them, I think. Yes, Layla. All that. >> [laughter] >> Sorry. All right, ladies, we'll start Let's lead us We're going to walk start here and walk around and shake everybody's hands. Start there. All right, ladies. Start here and walk around and shake everybody's hands. >> [clears throat] >> Thank you. Just high five. You can yell at me. That would feel more More appropriate. It's not fair though. Hey. How are you? I'm

doing well. Congratulations. Proud of you. Congratulations. Nice job. Proud of you guys. Good. Great job. Proud of you guys. Congratulations. >> Great job. Congratulations. You're the best, honey. Proud of you guys. Good job. You did it. Great job, honey. Proud of you. >> [laughter] [laughter] >> It's all right. It's all right. >> [laughter] >> Oh. I know. Amazing season. Thank you guys. Thank you guys. Thank you. Amazing season. Thank you. I do want to say that we talked about Molly tying the assist record. The other person with that assist record is Mrs. Bennett, which is right here. I didn't shoot as much as she did. >> [laughter] >> THAT'S GOOD. OH, YEAH. We call them Okay. She sent a platter with them. And then high school has one other special presentation for us this evening.

Yeah, Danny, if you'll come out and Heather and Braden. Um Well, those two presentations are definitely hard to follow. Um this one is something that we really wanted to come and honor some some individuals. Um Seth here is, as we've already talked about, is the superstar of the kind company. Um and Seth had some some struggles with being able to hold his writing utensils. And um was really struggling to be able to do some of his work. And you kind of want to talk about your the process that you started with with that? Yes. As his occupational therapist, it's my job to adapt anything that he needs, you know, so that he can participate as his same age peers. So, when they came to me, I took a look and kind of had an We

had been through all sorts of adaptive crayons, you name it, we had tried it throughout the years. Um but, I had seen something online that I wanted to try, but I'm like, it's kind of expensive. I can make that. So, I got an old computer mouse and marker lid to try to fabricate something to hold a crayon. Couldn't get it to work, so I went to Braden. He's like, "You're out of your mind. What are you doing?" >> [laughter] >> And I'm like, "I think I can make it work." So, he humored me for a little bit, but then he's like, "I think we can maybe make this piece. We can 3D print it." And so, then I'm like, "Well, how far can I push that 3D printing?" And so, I sent him a picture

of what I had in mind, and then they took it from there. Yeah, so I really appreciated Heather's McGyverness. I think >> [laughter] >> the best way to put it. Um But, yeah, so the what she had the the resources she had, it just it it just wasn't going to pan out. It would have been very difficult to do. But, it was it's it was the perfect and we just finished our 3D printing unit in class. So, it was like the perfect timing. And I met with Danny's my TA. But, very very sharp. He's the lead tech head Black Cat. So, whatever I throw at Danny, he just takes it and goes with it. And so, I I was like, "I'll put Danny up to this." So, he came in during his TA period, and

we looked at what Heather had sent us online, and I said, "Go for it. Make make something." And he needed a little bit of help on figuring out how to hold the hold the devices in there, the pencils and the crayons. And And that was the cool thing, too, is he made it um multi-purpose. So, it hold multiple sizes. It hold pencils. It hold crayons, whatever. Um and yeah, he 3D printed it, and designed it. >> Yeah, he designed it. He He drew all that. He That was That was his his idea. So, um he put it together, and we 3D printed it in a couple hours, and Seth had it in no time. So, >> The amazing thing about this is it truly goes to show everything that goes on at the high school

and how it's inner working. You know, we've got staff members that are are trying everything to make sure that a student can have the same opportunities as their peers. But, when we when availability comes into to play, we have a team of of teachers and students that can go and make that stuff happen. I can tell you I've I've had the pleasure of getting to work with Danny a lot this year as the lead tech and in Black Cat, and with me trying to come in and act like I know what's going on with the Black Cat computers. Um Saying he is sharp is a major understatement. This kid is is amazing when it comes to what he can do with technology and and designing and things in CAD and being able to to print

things. And so, I just cannot say enough. When I I got an email actually actually Mr. Day sent me text pictures first, then I got an email of what had taken place, and it it's just the coolest thing. And to see Seth be able to use his crayons and uses his pencils. And um if there is a better smile in Jennings County [clears throat] High School, >> [laughter] >> I haven't seen it yet. I will say I had to I had to beg Seth. Seth likes to box with me. I had to I had to beg him not to Oh, don't don't embarrass me. I had to beg him not to beat me up in front of everybody here tonight. So, so it's just amazing what what our our team can do when they come

together. So, uh I just wanted to honor Danny and showcase Seth and what Seth is doing. So, thank you guys very much. Danny, I am positive that everybody in this room is going to want you to walk around and show the device that is here with you. So, You got a pencil? You stick it in there. I mean, Here's a pen. And I will say that he went When I I just wanted one hole. I was like, I don't care if it holds a small crown, a large crown, a marker, just something so he can participate. And it's got two separate size holes, a way to adjust. I mean, so it will literally hold any writing utensil that we put in there. Put the big crown in the other one, too. Okay. Do you want

to walk around the U? And we'll I'll let you choose the side. Hey, hold on. Braden and Heather, Seth has Seth has some things for you guys. That's scary. >> [laughter] >> Can you give that to her? Nice job. Very good. Seth, can you give this to Mr. Day? Thank you, Seth. And then this one is for Danny. Thank you. Now, he's not going to let you keep that, is he? HE'S NOT. >> [laughter] [applause and cheering] >> THANK YOU FOR SHARING YOUR STORY WITH US, PARENTS. Thank you for being willing to come and share that. It's just share such a beautiful piece of how much our students care for one another. It was just heartwarming to see. Thank you. I thought Mr. Roller had Braden Smith with him tonight. >> [laughter] >> Not as

good of a basketball player. >> [laughter] [laughter] >> While there's a little bit of movement going on in the room, I just want to thank everybody. Nikki shared with the board that the tonight was going to be a really good feel-good night. And you know, sometimes you just need those moments where you really see the kindness coming through. And um that's exactly what we're seeing tonight um at the high school and really throughout the school corporation. Um and then um of course, so proud of the girls' basketball team. I mean, what it was I I told Coach Ziegler it was so fun to watch. I mean, it really was. Took me back a little bit. So, Um so, uh moving down on the agenda, next we'll ask if anyone is present who'd like to speak

to any item on the agenda or any other topic. Hearing none, we'll go to old business. Um under programs, we have teacher appreciation grant. Yes, I just wanted to update that we'll be distributing um the TAG grant on May 15th payroll. We notified the 34 teachers who will be receiving the grant. We followed an application and rubric process. Wonderful submissions um from our very high-quality staff. Um we had enough funds from IDOE though to cover less than 13% of our teachers using the state's new criteria. We miss the way it used to be, um but we were happy to be able to take advantage of some of those funds in choosing to do so. So, just an update on that. Again, that item is an inform. Um next we'll move move down to new business

under programs, JCSE elementary handbook. Yes, um you're going to get all three handbooks tonight. Um and the first one is the elementary handbook. Um all of them are um updated and aligned to new law or policy and any new legislative updates. Um you I've shared an electronic copy with you. You'll see highlights of anything that's added and red strike through of anything that we've taken out. If you want um a printed copy, let me know and I can get that to you, too. So, that's for elementary and this is an inform. Okay. I would just add real quick that we did include the verbal false informing that we added that mid-year, so that's added in for next year formally. And then the cell phone policy will have to shift and change to match the new

state laws um that go into effect over the summer. So, both of those things are reflected in handbook drafts. So, that's elementary and that was an inform. And then is there anything additional you want to just mention the other two? I know you said >> all the same um same same updates. >> Great. So, um we have the elementary handbook, we have the JCMS handbook, and then JCHS handbook. All three inform items. Um so, next we'll go to IDOH health issues and challenges grant. Yes, Purdue Extension, they partnered with a local nonprofit, Perceptions, um and they would like to provide It's It was going to be a 6-week workshop, but they'll have to condense it obviously with the end of the school year. Um to um it's movement and art help reduce stress for our

kiddos fourth through sixth. They're going to They want to pilot it at um Sand Creek and Graham Creek right now are the two sites. Um the proposal's in your packet. Some of the language is um outdated and we need to update some new lang- the language to match newer criteria set by the state. Um so, I'm going to work with them to um do that. It matches more employability skills and they and counseling um standards. So, you'll have that that is in your packet. And please ask any questions that you'd like. Again, that's an inform. Sorry, Danny. That's No, you're good. That's an inform and again, that was in the packet. Um next we'll go down to public school out of district transfer deadline for 2026-2027. Yes, this is just an annual approval that we

turn into the state of the last day we will accept any out of county um transfers next year. We typically use the last school day to try to capture as much enrollment as possible. So, just copying that, that would be May 21st of 2027. So, asking for approval. So, do we have a motion to approve? I have a motion by Marilyn. Do I have a second? Second Second by Cheryl. Any discussion? All those in favor? 7-0. Um next we'll move down under professional staff, we have a permission to fill. Yes, I'm asking permission to fill positions prior to the next board meeting. Particularly, this is for our seasonal mowing crew to get that going. So, asking for permission to fill those positions prior to the next meeting. Entertain a motion to approve. So moved. Motion

by Travis. Do I have a second? >> Second. Second by Pat. Any discussion? All those in favor? 7-0. And next, high ability coordinator. Stipend. Yes, these are stipends and I'm asking for approval. Um these are from the high ability um grant and they've been paid annually and it's for work outside of contracted time for these four teachers. And the names are in your packet. [clears throat] Cindy Law is well, cuz she was in the same >> Yes, ma'am. Yes, um cuz um Cindy Law was in the consent consent agenda items, but Cindy is transferring from Sand Creek Elementary assistant principal to Sand

So, we are we're split three ways. I'm flying solo tonight. Uh our family farms and it was goat time. >> [laughter] >> That's understandable. If you want to start over here with Todd, we'd love to be able to

congratulate you all. So, thankful to have you here. Congratulations, Todd. >> Okay. Now we'll move down under support staff. Um again, um we have permission to post. Yes, please. Motion by Pat, do I have a second? Second. Second by Kurt, any discussion? All those in favor? 7-0. Um and then some additional posts. I'll entertain a motion to approve. So moved. Motion by Marilyn, do I have a second? Second. Second by Pat, any discussion? All those in favor? 7-0. Next we'll go down to operations, another resolution. Yes, so this is um we did an inform last time talking about applying for the 1003 flexibility waiver. This resolution would give me permission to apply for that for the state. Um the slight change is um I was

able to find out in we have an opportunity to apply for the waiver that instead of the students being on e-learning for those days that the students would have those days waived. So our staff would all be able to have professional development. The students would not need to do e-learning from home and that would allow both things to be achieved with less stress for our families. So we would like to apply for a three-day waiver for next year which would be one day in September, one day in February, one day in April. Those dates would be communicated out ahead to staff and parents in advance of next school year if it's approved by the state. So asking for that resolution for permission to apply. This day has been waived by the IDOE for students and certified staff already. Your approval for the classified staff would allow them to be paid without making up hours at another time. So moved. Motion by Travis, do I have a second? >> Second. Second by Pat, any discussion? All those in favor? 7-0. Anything else, Greg? Having nothing else to come before the board, we'll entertain a motion to adjourn. So moved. Motion by Pat, do I have a second? Second by Marilyn, all those in favor?

-0, meeting adjourned.
