001for the October 6, 2025 regular meeting as presented. >> Dr. Brown Gary. >> All in favor? >> Post. Approval of minutes from the September 8th, 2025 regular board meeting. Motion. >> Thank you. Second. >> All in favor? >> I post. >> Uh there'll be no public comments tonight. Seven championship moments. Mr. Connor will spotlight the KMS PTO and their upcoming fundraiser request. >> Thank you very much uh for having us this evening. I bring with me uh two important people. Uh first of all, I bring Jake McIntyre who's been before you several times. Jake is on our parent teacher organization board and we also bring Sher WLE, our eighth grade college and careers creature. And they're both going to update you on our project and tell you some new and exciting stuff involving our kids.

002And I think when you hear that, you'll understand. >> Yeah. >> Thanks. So, as you know, the PTO's uh continuing to move forward with the outdoor area at the middle school. um a pavilion and some play equipment like we had talked about. Um one thing we need for that space is picnic tables. So we're excited that uh Sherry came to us about a recycle program uh for some outdoor furniture. So um to cover the cost of that, the PTO will use our grant and our um fundraising to cover the uh cost of those those equipment and uh screws are going to help with the plastic collection. So Gary's taking over. Thanks. >> So my um class needed a leadership project. So I about eight years ago we did the same recycling program for the Knox

003athletic boosters and it worked out very well. So we used the you know went out to the public and everything. So uh we created my class kind of created the slideshow. If you could go to the next slide whoever's in charge of that. Should I do it? >> Okay. So, our goal is to collect 3,000 lbs of caps and lids for the picnic tables uh for the PTO. Uh we're going to my class is going to be sorting all of them. They've come up with like they're helping me with slides, things like that. Um we are going to take it to the Green Plastic Recycling Center, which happens to be in Indiana, couple hours away. Um, and then we're going to we're going to rotate our caps and lids. We're going to bring back six

004picnic tables for um, and I have benches on there. We're thinking about benches if we get extra. Okay, next slide, please. Uh, these are all the acceptable caps and lids. Even medicine bottles, we have to separate those. The caps are separate. U, like an 8 in lid is probably about the biggest we can accept on these. Next slide. There's another group of acceptable lids and caps. So like mayonnaise jar lids, coffee can lids, cool whip containers, sour cream containers. It goes pretty far. Next one, please. And then these are nonacceptable. The trigger sprayers are not acceptable because they're intertwined with like metal. So they can't what they do is they're like tumbling all the lids and caps and then there's like flakes of plastic that come out and then they press them together for 2x4s

005I think. Is that the last slide maybe? >> Okay. So the dates we'd like to start well it was like around October right now somewhere in here and then end May 1st and then the goal is the 3,000. So anything you want to add to that? >> No, I think you covered it well. So, long story short, uh what excited me was that the eighth graders uh are enthused kind of take the lead on this in terms of marketing what we're doing, uh organizing it, facilitating it within the school itself rather than it being an adult venture. The kids want to take the lead on because they really realize that uh the benefits that we're going to receive from this are kid- centered. uh putting up a pavilion out there, putting up a playground, putting

006up playground equipment, etc., etc. It's all about the kids, right? So, to hear that students will be playing the lead in that really excited me. Questions, comments. So, how how is that we're going to get out to like say families that want to like, hey, we're going to collect some stuff, bring it into somebody, how great I know about, but how does anybody else know about it? >> Created these flyers. um or they're going to create more flyers. Jake actually did that one that you're looking at right now. But that's what we want them to do. Social media, our Facebook page at um middle school and the PTO Facebook page. Uh we're going to do we're planning on doing like a Friday morning announcement um like every Friday. >> Yeah. We we'll also have a

007bucket out by the uh the recycle center by the uh county garage um to collect there for people that >> are you guys going to share with the high school and the elementary to share with those people as well. >> Contacts with the different school. >> We do. We we I have a a teacher that kind of took on um she has a person that she works with as like an after school program um outside of school like a post um secondary education and she's willing to go with him to pick up some of the caps and legs like that's going to be one of his projects. So she reached out to me when she heard us thinking about it and she was like I can help you with those. So, at the middle school,

008it's each science teacher who's kind of collecting and working with the students at each grade grade level. And then Jamie Shyman at the elementary school is going to help. >> We're also going to try to use as many um media resources as we can. Mick doesn't know it yet. >> Yeah. >> Calli, which >> actually Wednesday, let's talk. We'll make it. >> Yeah. >> What is 3,000 pounds of plastic look like a whole lot of big garbage bags. >> Is that what you're collecting garbage bags? >> Do any of you remember this when we did this about eight years ago? >> And his son helped with that project. He was one of my leaders for that project. And it was like a bigger than a car trailer, right? And it had like >> what the

009green bag >> I think we had four or five. So, it did fit on a pretty big trailer. >> We have a trailer. Good luck. >> We do. We have a >> I know I know a guy who got on trip. >> Thank you. >> That will be added on there. That'll be added on there for people that don't have kids to know to take it to the highway, right? >> And then we'll just divide it between the four grade levels if you want to do a little competition. >> Yeah, whoever drops off, we'll just divide it between the four grade levels. >> Really good project. All right. >> That's us. >> Thank you. >> All right. A championship moment. uh or I'm sorry, special education director uh Heather Reese, special education director will give

010an update to the board. >> Hello. I passed out to um actually Billy passed out. There is a brochure for the developmental preschool I'm going to talk about and then just that is the brochure I made for registration just highlighting Max's special ed. So, I just wanted to share those with you. The brochure does include all of Stark County. Um but you can read about the Knox part on there. So, um a couple updates for the school year. We had 29 special ed moveins to Knox. So that's kids um coming in with an IEP to our district. Um we lost a total of four. So we are up positive in the special ed numbers. Uh I did CPI training over the summer. 42 staff members were CPI trained. And so that's the crisis intervention training.

011That's for deescalation and the hands on um if needed for situations. So there's 42 staff members certified for two years here and then they came back and did a deescalation just for the bus drivers. So that happened over the summer. Developmental preschool, we're currently serving 21 kids in Nancy Susland's developmental preschool already. We have 10 more expected to enroll that are on the docket. This program serves all kids ages 3 through five with disabilities. So those numbers are pretty high for the beginning of the year. We don't usually start start that high which is awesome. Uh the kids in there have developmental disabilities, communication delays and so some of those kids are in there for two years, some kids are in there for one year. We do take referrals from first steps and parent referrals.

012And so um that is up and running and in good shape. It's one teacher and one aid in there. She has a morning session and an afternoon session. I'm currently mentoring three teachers at Knox through asset. asset is the aspiring statewide special education teacher program. This is a program that will get special ed licensing for teachers. Um I had three people apply. They are getting their license and severe and intense which is not a common license that we have. Most people here have mild. After the end of the school year, I will have six licensed teachers in our corporation for intense sphere. So that's awesome. um the base program which is the behavior class that we started last year. Uh the high school program currently is serving 14 kids and the middle school program is

013currently serving three kids. >> Questions >> in terms of therapists for your occupational physical therapy speech, do you have enough therapists? cuz I had heard something about that some things were being delayed in terms of some kids or their qualifications were being made more intense before they could get into therapies, particularly speech therapy. >> Um, so no, we are fully staffed currently. Um, so we currently have one and a half SLPs here. So Kristen Bower was hired this year. So she has middle school, high school, and then Elizabeth Howard takes uh preschool, elementary. So parent if parents contact you for needs in the speech therapy department, they should be able to get those met as easily as they had been in years past. >> Oh, absolutely. So if a parent reaches out to me and

014says, I have a son or a daughter that I have speech concerns about, they notify me. I have 10 days to set up an intake. All parents bring kids in. We do an intake, a screener. From there, we decide, oh, this kid needs beach and OT, sign a consent, and then it's a 50-day timeline um based on the law, and after the 50 days, then an IEP would be put in place. >> Okay. >> Yeah. So, anybody can call um so we take they'd have to be at least three. Otherwise, if they're below three, they have to come to us from first steps. >> Okay. >> So, yeah. >> Okay. But at three and beyond, there should not be a problem. >> There should not be any problem. So, there are some speech referrals for

015the preschool here. So, there are kids that go into Jana and Ashley's class that maybe um start school and then have concerns about speech. So, there's speech referrals there. Um if a kid is three and qualifies for speech only at three, that's normally walk-in services, which would be like once a week. We don't do walk-in. We provide one day of developmental preschool. So, they come for an entire day into developmental preschool. So, a three-year-old with a speech delay, >> how's that best handled >> just reaching out to you guys and saying, "We've got a kid that needs speech." >> Yeah. Parent just calls and makes a referral and then we start the process. >> So, the first process is 10 days. The second process is 50 school days. >> Okay. >> So, um like currently

016if I had a signed consent to test, I'm looking at like right before Christmas it would be done >> based on the timeline notice. >> Okay. So the sooner they get a they get in contact with you, >> the better the better. >> And so if a if a student would qualify for speech and language, which are both speech services, they would qualify for 5 days of developmental prek. >> Okay. >> So it would only be those speech only kids. So it just depends if it's Arctic or if it includes language. So yeah, and those flyers have been shared um and I'm happy to drop them off at more places to let people know how to reach out. Um, but they can call and ask to either speak to myself or anybody in the preschool

017like Nancy Susan. >> Okay. >> Yep. >> Thank you. >> You're welcome. >> Just a quick little shout out to Ashley the over there at the high school base program. She's done an amazing job at taking those those kids and really developing something special for them. We always say that, you know, every student has spot somewhere. And I mean, when I say the home environment is there, it is a home environment. I mean, she does a really nice job with those kids. So, I just want to give her a little shout out while we're here. >> She's done amazing. She had one senior last year that was not on track to graduate. Um, we placed him there at the beginning of last year and he was able to su successfully graduate with his cohort. Um,

018so she's on track. She's it's it's awesome. >> What's our special ed enrollment for the Knox schools >> total? I don't know. So, we have a new IEP program which if you haven't heard is not gone well. So, when I look, it's pulling old kids in. And so, um, when I looked last time, we were at 329, I think I told Casey, um, last year at December 1 count, we were at 316. And 316 was up 30 kids from the year before. >> So, um, we did get a lot of moveins. We got a lot of people that left the surrounding schools that wanted to come here. Um, and so we have really increased special ed numbers. And a shout out to Heather because she does an awesome job for all of us in the

019field. Thank you. >> Huge job. >> Any other questions? >> Thank you. >> All right. Number nine, a principal update. A startle. Sorry. >> Sure. Sure. >> Um Okay. So, last time I was here, we went over um our building goals with you and how that aligns with what you guys have set up as goals. So, I just thought I would share a few points of things we've done to work toward those goals. So, we put the numbers up there, but what are you actually doing behind the scenes to make those numbers happen? So um first off we have had set a goal to increase our proficiency on basic math facts as well as getting our kids to identify what operation is needed in a word problem when they start. They often just see numbers

020and say I'm going to add and it's not always adding. So we've gone ahead and we've we've done baseline um assessments on math facts that are appropriate to the grade level that you would have them in. And then we also created an assessment um kind of just our own um where they they read the word problem or it's read to them if that's appropriate and they just pick which operation would you do not even solve it just what would you do? And so we're gathering all that information to get um some grade level averages, classroom level averages, coming up with some incentive things of um as kids grow, not just who's the best and who can do it all, but who's grown. Um like class averages when you do that, everybody really contributes to that.

021So we'll be doing some things in the classroom instructionally, but also kind of make trying to get the kids excited about getting behind some of those. for our English language arts. We said we wanted to increase our performance there. Um, one of the things that came up as we talked as a staff that we really felt we needed in in looking at our own practices and looking at our data was um just some professional development in writing. Our writing can't just be about conventions and spelling and punctuation and capitals. What's the content? You know, how do you develop the idea? How do you site evidence in there? um how some of the meteor things, not just that it's got a capital and a period, what of substance are you saying? And so um we turned

022around and um we got on contract with Melissa Gil and she's a consultant out of Wabash Valley Education Center. Um she's got a lot of elementary good experience she brings to the table. Um so we sat down, we've got a plan laid out for six sessions. She's already done one. Um, we've done it kind of Google style, so Google Meet, but every teacher's camera's on, everybody's in their room. It's lots of participation in the chats, and then we're tasked inhouse with continuing that. And so, we have a list of agenda items to take that first one, and then where are we going next? And so, myself, Mr. Mason, Mrs. desk will be meeting in team meetings, PLC's, different things to try to go deeper on some of that and also get to the point where

023teachers are then writing some plans based on what we're learning, getting some writing samples so that then when we meet all again with her, we have some more, you know, background to go with it. So, we're on for this year and we hope that we can continue that with her in next year. It's a it's a big undertaking um but it's time it's time to do it and our teachers are ready for it and I think our kids are ready for it. So, um that's been happening. Um also, we do have a meeting coming up from the Department of Ed. They're offering an iLearn checkpoint um session where I know last year the checkpoints were new to us. They're those small tests before the big one and they give you some data. This is a

024session where the daily focus is what do we do with that? How do you use it? When do you get that information? And so I'm going to take some reps from third and fourth grade and we'll go to Elcart that day at the end of October and bring that back, share out with teams and figure out how are we going to implement that? How do we follow? >> So those are kind of what we've been doing toward our goals. Um our staff was very generous. We raised about $900 for bikes for kids for the spring so far. Um I think Mr. L's over there is gonna have the high school compete with us. I think they just want to dress week down week, but that's okay. and see how much they can earn. Um I

025really a big thank you to KHS because um two of our students were asked to be honorary captains at the football game and they were so excited about that. Two more will do it again this coming Friday and then we'll continue that on with home games next year. So that was kind of fun for them to do and also Mr. Fipps um let us come over and um watch the band on the field and that was a really great experience for them as well. >> So good. >> Those are kind of the highlights. Do you have any questions about KCES? Anything? >> I was over for that concert briefly that he put on for the elementary school kids and the enthusiasm was >> Oh, yeah. It's fun. That's such great. We have so many good

026things going on around here and it's fun for the littles to see that to see what you want to do when you get there. >> Okay. Great. >> Thank you for always tough to talk about. So, um, first quarter grades will be out Thursday. We completed our first academic quarter last Friday. Uh, we continue to see a lot of growth and energy, uh, in our classrooms from our students. Uh, professionally this year as a faculty, we began the school year out by revisiting our collective commitments, similar to what you guys did as school board. Our collective commitments as a faculty is that when confronted with issues, we won't blame kids. We'll focus on what we can control, not what we can't. And we believe that we are agents of change. Uh professionally, um in terms

027of our staff development initiatives this year, our PLC, uh we've worked towards improving a system of support, uh related to instruction, direct instruction for teachers. We've done that by studying the elements uh of effective instruction themselves. Uh we did a performance task where we uh practiced a protocol and that protocol was designed to exchange uh sample lesson plans and um practice effective listening uh and uh giving effective feedback and and and for teachers and I'm a teacher uh sometimes that's hard for us. We don't usually um practice those active listening skills uh as often as we can because we're so used to disseminating information, but uh times have changed and we're more facilitators now now than we are lecturers. So that was a fun activity that we engaged in. This Wednesday will be our next

028PLC initiative and we're going to uh uh roll out a concept called learning walks. Another thing that uh we have to do to develop our system of support for instruction is give teachers the opportunity to go into peers classrooms which we don't do very often. Um and we have to give them the opportunity to see effective instruction and we also have have to give them the opportunity to see instruction that might be better. >> Uh because we we agree that we can learn as much from people who are doing really well as we can from people who need to get better. And uh what's really neat about a learning walk is that immediately after it's over, we'll work in teams of three. Immediately after it's over, we'll we'll create an opportunity for immediate feedback from

029the two observers to the teacher that they observed um teaching class. It's not an administrative u activity. I'm not directly involved in that. So uh it's not something we're doing to them. uh they're doing it jointly uh and a collaborative basis to help one another get better. >> So, we're excited about that. Um that's where we're going. Questions, comments. >> Okay. >> Thank you, Mr. >> All right. So, the high school is going well so far. first quarter is done. And our first staff meeting, we had the opportunity, actually our second staff meeting after the start of the year, we had a great opportunity to talk about why our goals as a building is to increase our math and our language arts goals as a whole. Um, and then we really have been using our

030PLC time as an opportunity to kind of dive into um how we can help our students. And so we we've narrowed it down to first we're going to identify our students that need some remediation. Then we're going to focus on focusing on what we need to teach. And then finally how we're going to teach it. Well, when we get into our PLC's every week, we get to meet with each we get to meet with each team kind of individually and our conversations have been phenomenal. We've been talking about how the math isn't mathing with our SAT. We first identified from their our current junior students their freshman year PSAT data and their sophomore year PSAT data. And then we identified, you know, what diploma track they're on right now, whether they're core 40, academic, technical,

031um, or academic and technical honors. Um, and it's it's fun to see, well, not fun, but it's it's ironic to see a lot of our students who were on the bubble of either passing or not passing or the college ready SAT scores for PSAT, we're on our academic and technical honors uh track. Um, so that's where we came up with the math isn't mathing because our students really do know the material. they they do know um the math that is being presented in the SAT. However, one thing that we've talked about it's the culture of the test um the style of the test, the different wording of the test. And so, we're going to start focusing now on as a whole figuring out ways that we can kind of kind of change that culture of

032that test. So, um, what we're going to start with our TVs in the in the schools, we're going to have a countdown to the PSAT for October 22nd. And then we're going to have scrolling not only the countdown so the students see when the PSAT is coming, but we're going to have like tips of the day. These are some great tips that you can do. If you look at a SAT question and you have no idea what it's even talking about, what's a great way that you can start identifying which which one you can take away, which one you can maybe keep. Um, but then also a couple questions from the PSAT um samples that they see because even for I when I was looking at one of the pre-EST PSAT questions, I kind of

033was like, I have no idea what this is even talking about. um PSAT is not there trying to trick you. They're trying to get you to that depth of knowledge to really understand the mastery of that contact or context. And so that we as a whole, we really identified how we as a whole staff can support our students, not just our math teachers. Um so every week we're going to be doing after fall break, we're going to be having a math PSAT that every student in the building has to complete. They're going to get on a Google doc. They're going to do the question. They're going to submit it. Then the next day, um, one of our math teachers is actually going to have a a pre-recorded video of kind of that quick step through

034of what that question was asking, how they got that answer, do the problem um, on that video. So then that way every student can see what that problem looked like. But then again, I'm not asking my English teacher to do a quick math lesson or my foreign language teacher to do a English question. So, it's really a good opportunity for everybody to get that sense of what we're doing with PSAT and how we as a whole can can do our best. Um, but then also we have identified our bubble students who who either were 30 points below um passing or 30 points above. And so we're going to start identifying them with um doing a pre-EST for PSAT. From there, what we're going to do is we're going to identify what skills they need to

035be taught. And so then we're going to create some quick remediation um classes per week during SRT time. So then that way we can start kind of helping them those students who were on the bubble of passing or on the bubble of barely passing to make sure that they do their best on the PS or on the SAT come come March. So overall that's where we are with our SAT. Um right now we have focused on math but I've talked to my English department and they love this concept. And so we're actually going to start kind of diving in a little bit with our English department doing this as well. Um, and then at the same time, then we're going to start our next step would be to start working on our SRT format as

036a whole and figure out how we can utilize that time to to best support our students and really get them what they need. So, that's a little bit of of an update at the high school. Can I answer any questions for you guys? I >> have two things. Champion moment for all three of you. Um, so not you can you can sit. >> Okay. Thanks. Um, first of all, there was a push from our principles right at the end of nine weeks, not letting any student fail, right? Of really trying to have the teachers talk to those students to get those grades up, you know? So, I thank you guys for that push. Uh, but then the second thing that we did uh what, two weeks ago, three weeks ago, we had a really good

037conversation about evaluations, right? The way I evaluate a teacher might be different than the way Peggy does. So, we kind of challenged them to um go into classrooms together. Um so they took uh it was a morning right you guys took a morning um they identified some teachers that they wanted to go to and they went together into classrooms and scripted out lessons together and then they had a roundt discussion after that um about you know what did what did Mr. L see compared what Mrs. Tarno see um and trying to get their evaluations together so that they're whether it's the middle school, elementary or high school, the process is close to the same and they went into each building when when they did this um process. So just a champion moment for you guys.

038I I think that was awesome. I hope you guys you know benefited from that. Um you excited to keep that process moving forward. >> Share some of it. Right. Yeah. I you guys are going to probably bug out of here, but we don't get a chance to hear our comments. But I as I sit and listen to all three of you guys talk, me and four, including Heather, it's it's it's exciting to hear all three of you talk about the focus of how teachers are coming together, focusing on what do we do better, how can we do better, what are we going to do better for the students, and what do we need to do better? Support our students. the collaborative teamwork. It's contagious. Um, and so I just I I want to say thank

039you guys and and the staff and everybody else because this is something different that we've seen and and hopefully we we all kind of help drive this that focus of saying it's important and you guys have followed through with it. So I I just want to say while you guys are here, thank you because it's not going unnoticed. I think from >> that has been the push, right? that that has been our push in our conversations and even our meetings have changed more to put focus on that >> and I wrote the same thing while you guys were talking same thing as Kurt you know thank you for your informativeformational um updates they're they're wonderful and come in from the directors admins the championship moments it's it's really it gets you fired up listening to

040you guys thank you >> and it was about academics so I thank Thank you very much for bringing that to us. >> All right. Okay. >> Thank you again. >> Thanks. >> Okay. Moving on. Uh 10, personnel report. Uh a resignations, b new hires, c transfers, and d extracurricular appointments. Um, the superintendent recommends the board approve items A, B, C, and D. >> Kirk. >> Gary. >> All in favor? >> Hold on one second. Sorry. Um, I just like to thank all of our extracurricular appointments that are here. Max, you're here with us tonight, correct? So, thank you for jumping on um as our head boys and girls swim coach. Appreciate you being here. Um, and also just Jerry Nichch, right? I said, >> I always say that wrong. Nich coming on as one of

041our premier subs. You know, that's one of those things that you guys passed a while ago. Um, and we continue to try to get we we have three positions of those. Um, so he's going to fill one of those spots for us. So, we're excited to have him on board. >> All right. Thank you. All in favor? >> Post 11. Uh, business. A a public hearing will be held on the 2026 budgets for all funds capital projects fund plan and bus replacement fund plan notices served pursuant to IC6-1 uh 1-17-5 to the taxpayers within the boundaries of the Knox Community School Corporation of a hearing on the AD advertised budget for all funds capital projects fund and bus replacement fund. um one all funds budget capital projects fund plan and bus replacement plan pursuant to

042IC6-1 1-17-5 the chair entertains a motion to convene a public hearing on the 2026 annual budgets for all funds the capital projects fund plan and the bus replacement plan of the Knox Community School Corporation. Uh Miss Clark will present the 2026 budgets. Uh do I have a motion? Aaron Wendy second. >> Okay, we'll get started. Uh started off 2026 budget. We started off clear back in September. Part of it already had to be due. Uh the CPF capital projects fund replacement plan had to be on the website and on Gateway. September 3rd, the bus replacement also had to be on the website. Uh September 25th, I had to have the form three, which is a form that I gave to you guys in your packet, had to be on the website in the gateway. October

0436th, today is our here first hearing. 20th will be our next hearing. 27th, I have to have everything turned in. And in December, we will hopefully beginning of January between then, we'll find out if they approve our budget or not. budget considerations. Our student enrollment obviously that's where a lot of our money comes from is our enrollment which is state tuition support and our other part is assessed valuation. So however much our community assesses our community is assessed by in our houses and our businesses uh depends on our budget a lot. Sources of revenue, state tuition, which is our ADM count, property taxes, excise fit, CIT taxes, interest from our goes into operations, our grant money, and miscellaneous revenue. State support started in 2023 per student funding was $7,87.97. As you can see, it continues

044to climb climb, but unfortunately, it climbs, but they also put in $150 out of that money goes into curriculum instead of it being straight student support now. Um, so in reality, it didn't really go up. >> Education fund budgets on the basic grant money. 48% of it at least goes to salaries, 26% benefits, 15% of it transfers to operations so operations can function. and 11% is miscellaneous expenses. Budget assumptions, wage increases for non-certified staff, so your custodians, your paras, uh things like that in addition to staff or sped program also needs to be funded. Allowances for negotiated salary increases for everyone, increases in utility and fuel cost, and a 6% increase in health insurance rates for this year. our operations budget. The budget for this year is going to be $6,65,318. Uh that combines capital

045projects fund, transportation, bus replacement, and non-instructional amounts. So, anything to do not to do with teachers basically for the most part has to go in this fund. Uh we also usually replace two buses out of that fund every year. We pay for our bus driver salary out of there, the fuel, the part parts, the transportation and the director's salary out of there. That includes all CPF repairs. Um that can be anything from repairing a roof to uh repairing a toilet all comes out of there. Utilities and insurance premiums also come out of there. Wages for business office and maintenance and custodial also come out of there. Rainy day and debt service fund. Rainy day fund is saved money in case of an emergency. So, anytime if we didn't have the money to help with our

046uh boilers last year, we would have been in a lot of trouble. That's where that money came from to help pay for those until our bond went through. Debt service. Debt service is funded from tax dollars. Any bonds that we have, that's where it's paid out of that will be uh each time will be $2,800,500. This is our bus replacement schedule. We are actually in pretty good standings with our bus replacement. We've been replacing two buses every year and so we've stayed in compliance with the state of being under that 10 or I'm sorry under that 12-year replacement that's staying in with our warranty. So we're doing really good there as long as we stay on schedule. Capital projects that we're looking at for for 20 should actually say 2026. Uh HVAC system part every

047year for the next four years. the baseball scoreboard room carpet cycle. We are on a cycle where every year usually at least two rooms depending on where they lay at um per building get replaced. Um so we can stay on schedule because we were way way far behind on that. Now we're not. We have a parking lot rotation. Obviously if we didn't keep up on parking lots they would be in bad condition. Same thing with the gym floor. We're in a rotation there. Uh at the middle school we have a roof sections that we're working on. I think we have two roof sections left there and then we're going to move on. Uh we have to replace the middle school kitchen cooler, the gym floor there also, the parking lot also there, and the carpet

048cycle there. We also need a new PA system at the middle school. So, we're looking at replacing that. At the elementary school, we need gutters. Obviously, we are working on the gym floors and also the parking lot and the carpet cycle. We also uh need new bleachers. They have been the same bleachers since the build new building part was put on, which is now the old building part. Uh, we also need to replace some exterior doors, doors 2, 3, 4, and 11. Those all need replaced. Um, they're they're the most used doors for the kids, so they're wearing out quickly. The only lonely thing on the corporate CPF at the moment is bus cameras. I did pass out um the overall schedule of what we're looking at for rainy day at 1.3 million, debt service

049at 2.8 million, education at 16 million, operations 66 or 6 million, sorry, bring our total budget to 26 million. Um that's actually more than we will probably get. I always budget ahead um hoping that we will collect every single penny that the state is willing to give us. So that's where we're budgeting right now. Uh the CPF and the bus schedule is also in here. Any questions? >> Casey, what uh looking forward we met with Baker Tilly, where does the LI dollars that we're going to lose, where does that >> usually in operations >> in 2028? >> Yes. Yes. So, we will slowly lose more and more dollars there, which means we're going to have to transfer more money from education into operations in order for to survive and to be able to replace. >>

050Correct. Any all in favor? I post Number two, uh, adoption meeting. Chair entertains a motion to meet on Monday, October 20th, 2025 at 6 p.m. in the boardroom to consider the proposed budgets and levies for adoption. All funds, capital, project, fund, plan, and bus replacement. I have a motion. >> Dr. Brown second. >> Okay, Dr. Brown. Thank you. All in favor? I >> oppose. Three hearing closure. The chair entertains a motion to close the hearings on the proposal annual proposed annual budget capital projects plan and bus replacement plan motion. >> Aaron and Wendy. Okay. Thank you. All in favor? Post. All right. Uh B. Claims. Superintendent recommends the board approve the claims listed on page 20. Motion. Motion. Curtain. Second. >> Second, >> Wendy. All in favor? >> Opposed. >> All right. See, construction update.

051Superintendent will update the board on a construction project. >> Going well. That's that's the number one thing. Um, so by the end of fall break, we'll be 95% done. So, we're excited about that. Uh, we have the tack board that's coming in that will go in the rooms. If you guys been to those rooms, they have that little tack board that was there where the iron beam is at. um that should be there installed. Uh the window sills should be installed. Um the doors are here. They started installing some new doors. They'll finish that up. Um a good news for us um is that there will be a little bit of savings from um this because they're doing this work over fall break, which they had planned to do it on second shift because they

052thought we were going to be in school. So, great news for us. Um they'll we'll say we'll save some money there. Uh they're working on the as you see the north side of the ephus ephus on there. uh they about um are ready to lay the final coat. Um so we'll get that wrapped up. So that project's going very well. Um we got good news about our bond. We got a good rating with the bond uh for the new middle school. Um and those vertical units um they're going to go out for bid um here within the next couple weeks. Um probably um let me rephrase that. The units we're going to purchase a unit in the next couple weeks. We're going to go out for bid right at the end of November. and and

053get those start getting those bids out. So, uh that project is moving along. They're about 75% done with the um planning phase for that. So, it's moving along. We're doing well. Questions? All right. Thank you for the update. >> De I'm sorry. Yes, I did. So, the um the graphics department that looks really nice. So, that's >> that's very nice. >> That was Mr. really worked hard on that uh with with Malvin. Uh they came up and that's on the front side by the patio side there. It does it looks really nice and if you guys go up there right where you uh swipe in or you you know hit the button to go into the main office, our mission statement is right there. So everybody can see it. So it's very well thought out

054and it looks very nice. >> Yeah. Sorry. >> Oh, you're good. That was the call. Good question. All right. The donations. The superintendent recommends the board approve the donations as listed. Uh, do I have a motion? >> Motion. Kirk. >> Second. >> Thank you. >> So, um, you know, the people that donated to the FFA and bikes for kids, we definitely appreciate that. Those are two programs that are near and dear to us. Um, the the five dollies, just to kind of explain that to you. Um, each building has a and it's a huge safety bag. Um, it's huge to the point where it's almost one person to pick up is difficult. And the question always was if we ever had to evacuate the building, something like that, how are we getting this huge bag

055out? Um, so they donated um dollies. So we have them on the dollies now and they're strapped around the dolly. So if there is an emergency, all they got to do is pick them up and go and wheel them right out. So we definitely appreciate the uh donation by Tractor Supply for that. >> So how how do these like does someone go and ask for these donations or or how how does that come about? Yes. >> Would you like this link? >> Yeah, I know somebody that works at TSC, so uh I touch base with them and then they talked to their general manager and I thought it was great. >> Well, thank you. I'm just wondering, you know, like it's it's interesting that you know that people like you obviously like reach out and

056try to get, you know, I'm like how how do they know or like the FFA like how is it? >> So the FFA members reach out. >> Do they? Yes, they do. Yeah. like we they reached out the the members will reach out and say hey we're wanting to go to this conference or something and >> so that and it's the students that standoint so >> and I'll give I'll give Chief a quick little champion what too because he there's with him being here there's little things >> that we've been able to dive into and fix you know with him being here um little things that we see in the dayto-day that sometimes you just well I'll get at some point but when it deals with the safety side. It's nice to be able to

057have him here in order to get that project completed. So, >> Sure. >> Thank you. >> Yeah. >> All right. All in favor? >> I fundraiser. The superintendent recommends the board approve the fundraisers listed on page 64, which middle school Halloween dance October 31st, 2025. KMSPTO recycling project October 25th, May through May 2026. And then the Knox High School student council fishbowl fundraiser 2526 school year. I have a motion. >> Motion second. >> When's the county doing Halloween? When when's trick-or-treating this year? >> Saturday. November 1st. >> So what better day to have a Halloween dancing than on Halloween, right? Perfect timing for that. Um so we're excited about that. You guys heard the uh the PTO fundraiser um and Mr. Walle's class. So that that's what that is. And then the high school, what

058they're doing is they have um donated gift cards um and then you could buy a ticket and then they're going to pull out a donated gift card and that's how they're going to uh do a fundraiser for I believe the student council. >> Yep. So >> awesome. >> And we thank you guys for your your presentation and coming out here. >> We're excited. >> First cap second bigger. All in favor? >> Opposed? >> Well, there is no public comments on items not on the agenda. So, we'll move along to comments, questions from admins and the board. Uh, Dr. Brown, you want to start us off? >> I was really impressed with the principles. Again, I mean, I think they're doing a great job and I think the focus is where it needs to be and

059I think they seem to be working very well together as a team instead of playing on their separate islands. So, I think that's great. Absolutely. Kirkland and thank you guys for for getting that's awesome. Thank you. >> Same results. Yes. Thank you. And I I really the the middle school um PTO they really do a lot of amazing things. So it's a lot of hard work. It's appreciated. >> Second job. >> Awesome. >> The same as everyone else. Yeah, my old brain is still trying to take all that information in. >> We don't have >> it's amazing you uh I mean you know like every meeting you know all this information and then the other groups also. So it's uh it's amazing. Thank you. the same. It's I mean that you like the the team.

060I feel like it's more of a a team um effort. So, um I I like hearing how obviously they seem to be working very well together. So, >> absolutely. Uh I think it's the behind thescenes uh stuff that we get to hear when stuff just like uh officer Smith back there, stuff he's doing, stuff they're doing, and it's nice to hear it. And um I think we're moving in a good direction. So >> Peggy, >> um I had one item, but he took it already. I was going to say about principles and their evaluations. >> But you asked about one. Obviously, he keeps looking at me for bikes for kids because I think you probably everybody sitting here knows >> your passion >> that it dumped in my lap. I know I'm lying. Kind >>

061of inside joke. Yes, >> it is. Uh but this year we were asked to include OD. I was asked to include OD last year was just Knox or Judson second graders adding OD caught they ordered the bikes already before they go up obviously the tariffs so the bill coming is over $10,000 so I'm a little bit with that because then I became the person who had to fund raise so you want to know who asked these people right I sent an email to the three principles Judson OD and Knox and said I need some help we need to do this together so actually was the OD principal who went to Triricappa and they donated that for all the bikes equally, not just for OD bikes. Um, so I was thrilled that and I hear there's

062some others, but Michelle came up with the idea of last week was a dress down week to wear jeans for the teachers. So I'm amazed to hear they could donate anything they wanted and she told me, "Oh, some donated five, some hundred." I'm like, "Oo, so $900." And then as I was doing my new bus duty in the elementary lot, um, driver, dude. >> Anyway, Sam came up and was giving Michelle a hard time because a couple teachers at the high school had asked, "Can we wear jeans like the elementary?" And he said, "No." Well, Michelle said, "Well, unless you want to do a fundraiser for us." So, like, what? And then Michelle goes, "Tell Beggy." So, he's like, "I'm going to do this. So, I'm going to make it a competition. So, we have

063to get Jim involved. But that's how it's working. The other thing was going to be I'm still going to say even though you took this one, too. I barking everything out. He talks. >> I wanted to bring up Harold while he was here because in my other life when I get to go over to the middle school to do that drop off, right? I' I've been able to do that several mornings and afternoons this school year. I tell you, it is wonderful to watch our chief of police. He knows those students, all of them by name. From the high school kids walking over and crossing to the elementary, he greets them. They know him. It's a thrill >> and >> I enjoy it. >> He sets the stage though, right? And I have middle schoolers

064getting out of, you know, we first started middle schoolers getting out of their cars. >> All right, middle school. Now they're jumping out. It's like, "Have a good day. You too. Have a good day." And then they just go and they fist bump officer Harold. So it's like you talk about teamwork. It is and contagious. Kirk, that was a great word you used. >> Yeah, >> it is great to see that. So thank you, Harold. It it does not go unnoticed. >> I enjoy it. >> That's it. >> Well, and I I will wrap this whole conversation up. Very positive meeting. Thank you guys. With this, KCSSE will be the school corporation of choice, setting the standard for excellence in every endeavor. We will lead the way, redefine what's possible, and make success our tradition.

065>> So moved. >> Oh, sorry. >> Last thing is this, right? We are rooted in purpose, strength, and community. Right? We came up with this eight months, nine months ago now. And you are seeing the push. You are seeing what has occurred through your guys' leadership. Right? This team's leadership. and how it has trickled down now into the principles now into the staff right and these meetings they are awesome we are together and you're seeing the benefit of what we created so I just want to tell you guys thank you >> thank you for your hardness now >> all right so move >> can I have a motion tojourn Thank you. >> All in favor
