001okay thank you everybody for coming would you please stand and recite the Pledge of Allegiance with Meed States na indivisible Dr K have we seen if there were any signups for public comment please no sign for okay with no signups for public comments I'd like to turn this meeting over to Dr PR liver all right thank you Mr Tor Mr Torio good evening everyone and thank you for coming to our monthly school board meeting we also welcome those that are watching our meeting online we appreciate their time and watching the regular Schoolboard meeting for the month of April at this time we would like to begin our meeting by having a special uh opportunity for our students and staff Hamilton Elementary School to share with us some important information about their students and their school
002and we look forward to hearing all of about those good things that are going on here at Hamilton so at this point I would like to introduce Mrs Jennifer Havens Rodriguez principal of Hamilton Elementary School to make that presentation thank you thank you welcome everyone uh we're happy to host again this April um first reminder I just want to um put out there to the public our kindergarten registration opens April 29th and it goes through May 3rd that's online uh Mrs Hayes and I will have our office reach out for screenings in May and then kindergarten jump start um is August 6th and 7th so um please get those dates in the book The earlier we have kids sign up the earlier that we can have them come in and get screened and get them
003ready for the fall um uh like I said thank you for coming um some things that I just want to go over this year I want to talk about some of our successes that we're seeing here uh at Hamilton um I want to give a big thank you to our PTO um that's something that has been um vital so I think I see one of my PTO moms here so thank you Mr Campbell um you know we we've really struggled the last couple years with parent involvement and I feel like they have been one huge component that has brought our parents back into our building um they assisted with a holiday assembly in December um we were able to give some students some awards we were able to coordinate some pies in the face that
004was myself officer Olsen was it just the two of us but it was good yeah Mrs Walker so three of us got pies in the face so thank you to PTO for that help um we did a spring assembly with a balloon artist and um a music program presentation from Edison so we were able to bring all the schools together for that um PTO this last Friday hosted our first school dance and we had close to 200 people in attendance wow so that was amazing to see our bus drivers were here they helped bake and they sold bake goods for our dance um do you know a number on how much we made at that dance wow yeah so they they have done an excellent excellent job and I could not be happier with the
005team that I have from our PTO um we have also seen Mrs Hayes and I worked really hard this year at getting our tier three meetings going we spoke about that a little bit at a previous board meeting with our reading Specialists but that has been another way that we have increased parent involvement ment parents are invited to come in and attend those and see um how we're helping their kids out so we've increased parent involvement through our tier three meetings um My Fabulous Title One facilitator has helped um put together a literacy night and a math night that saw huge attendance so big thank you to lizza prisco um she has also started implementing uh social and emotional learning lessons so each month we have themes so for example we did growth mindset and
006each day students can answer a question so for growth mindset an example would be How can having a positive attitude help you achieve your goals um and then we read some of those responses so that's been really great uh she pushes into classrooms and and helps with those various topics throughout the month um some testing updates I learn starts next week so parents that are in the audience make sure if you have a three third through fifth grader you're getting them here and getting them here on time um I read I want to say a huge shout out to not just my third grade teachers but to also all of our support staff we saw 81% passing rate on I this year which is phenomenal uh State average is only 63% so we're doing great
007things here um we do have two perfect scores to announce I don't know if those students are here all right you want to come up and help me are you sure okay so this is for Lucy Maye from her teacher mysteric she said that I knew the day I met Lucy that she was someone special she had a smile and an eagerness that shined as she walked in the door this this shine still follows her to this day as Lucy's teacher I cannot take all the credit for Lucy's success Lucy is a student who is always curious to learn more and do more she has has a support system of teachers parents siblings and even classmates who always push her to go the extra mile she takes the time to not only look out for
008herself but her classmates too she is a student I can always count on to be who she is and put a smile on everyone's face I am so proud of you Lucy and I cannot wait to see what other great achievements you are going to accomplish and remember my little Swifty that Sparks Fly when you smile myeric so come on up Lucy and [Applause] um fine up there our second student from Hamilton that had a perfect I is not here tonight but her name is Ari Jones and her teacher is Mrs Peterson who is also not here tonight but Mrs Peterson would like Ari to know or everybody to know that each day Ari comes to school ready to learn while working she takes her time and rereads everything on the page to ensure she
009understands the content during the test I saw her using our reading strategies she took her time and tried her best it clearly paid off I'm so proud proud of her and all of her hard work Mrs [Applause] Peterson thank you Mr prisco all right so um obviously having two perfect scores at Hamilton is a huge success so we're very proud of both of those students um I would also like to highlight some of the new opportunities we've had this year for our students um Miss Cappy Tanner new librarian has started an AM Library program so students are able to come in five days a week and go to the library check out extra books get help with homework um it's been a great program for our kids in the morning um we also have new
010club opportunities uh student council this year um for Mrs pae one of our fourth grade teachers uh Girls on the Run is a program that's also running right now that is Mrs Walker one of our first grade teachers and then Mrs Maguire from kindergarten and then miss Ratcliffe our art teacher has started Art Club and our art Club runs three different sessions um she completed the first one and they did jewelry making um right now she just started a new one slipping my mind what the topic is and then she'll have one more section so each time she does it she's got about 15 kids that are coming in um and participating in art Club um in addition to those Club opportunities we do have three different academic bows we want to recognize tonight um
011our first one is our spell bow participants here sorry all right so spell bow I'll just call out the names if you're here come grab your certificate uh our first um Miss uh Peterson said during the spell bowl season students practice 50 to 100 words every week and were then tested on those words uh they wrote them two times each and spelled them aloud while writing on the day of the competition we ended up not having a complete team so while our overall score was not what we hoped each speller did try their best and that's all we could ask for uh Mrs Peterson's very proud of her team and all the hard work that they put in um the members of that team were brenn Barnes Brianna Rob Oscar Silva John galowski Tanya lungu
012Lily blankinship and Jacob Waker we have any members tonight alrighty thank you y all right our next one is our science Bowl uh and that coach is Mrs quig you want to come here and help me hand out some certificates all right so science bow team this year consisted of 10 students who were excited to learn about life science uh we discovered many wonderful vocabulary words for the growing of cells and plants uh the experiment this year was seeing the impact that salt can have on plant life the students try to grow radish seeds our experiment was not as successful as we thought it would be but we persevered and finished the students continue to learn and do their best they improved their score from last year and still enjoy science I hope that each
013student will have wonderful memories learning about science so our fifth grade our team consists of fifth graders if you hear your name you can come on up Tyra brenston Talia shabus Timothy kingry Sebastian Ramirez and Landon olivari and then fourth graders Taylor Bron Giovanni contras Amaya Guzman Eric Martinez and Khloe [Applause] Sanders for all right another round of applause for our science full team and for Mrs [Applause] quig all right last but not least we have our math bow Team uh all the students have worked really hard from the end of January to the beginning of April um I'm very proud of all their hard work uh they put in during practice and outside of practice they learn math skills that they will be learning in Middle School uh they really worked together to do
014their best during all of our practices and at the competition they helped um each other learn new skills throughout their math B practices um our math bow team placed first in their division at South Central Elementary School and overall they placed 15th in the state so great job guys um I'm going to go and read off the names and we'll give you your certificate so Italia shalz Bonito Diaz Michael Jones Aaliyah Lawrence Landon olivari Logan olivari Romeo Rodriguez Oscar Silva jacobe Wallace and Jackson Whitaker a [Applause] wardrobe right good job guys thank you thank you Miss Havens for that update and congratulations to our students and their wonderful accomplishments both in SE spell bolt science bowl and math bowl and we congratulate you for that and even though Ari isn't here Lucy is we want
015to congratulate them both for their outstanding effort and getting a perfect score on their I read and a perfect score by the way 650 so these two young ladies ladies did an outstanding job with their I test we're very very proud of them so thank you to them and thank you Miss Havens once again for your presentation and Shining a positive light on our students and their accomplishments and that's what we want we like to brag we like to brag about our students and how well they're doing and I know sharing with the board the sentiment that that's our favorite thing to do is really brag about our students and put the Limelight on them so thank you for that and congratulations to all of them once again at this time we will go into

021uh Havens Miss Havens thank you for having us here uh other principles thanks for being here everybody in person parents students teachers everybody else that's here and also online we really do appreciate appreciate it coming to the small schools it it it really does make it fun it's it's nice to get out of that that office atoc out every now and nothing against you Mr St but sometimes seeing the little kids and their accomplishments just it's just great um congrats to the two students on your perfect scores that's amazing uh spell to spell Bowl science Bowl math bowl congratulations on that you guys did awesome not only to the the students but to you teachers you guys you guys work hard to to make this all work and there's there's not enough we can give
022you to say Thank you so my words is enough thank you I wish it was more uh PTO awesome job on the dance and doing that for the students that's super cool and uh that's all I got thank you Mr R um I'd like to personally thank all the students that participated um in the spell Bowl the math bowl the science Bowl I know it's a lot of extra hard work but you represent us so well and we're so proud of you I especially like the young man who who took off the uh science Bowl to get to his b I I love that part thank you thank you for doing that but um so proud of you guys especially two had the other two students have the perfect Bowl on the iene but uh
023thank you for representing us so well you guys always do so well on the spell bows and the science BS um so thank you for doing that the PTL thing what is your name ma'am thank you so much for for doing what you do with the PTL the PTL is such an important organization I really thank you from father the hearts thank you for what you do and um this aens wow what what's numbers 81% what's the state um average on state average is 63 and we're at 81 I know Bailey did outstanding also so I'm very very proud of both of the uh success rates that you guys have so thank you very much for all your hard work you must have amazing staffs I see all your teachers here that all the programs

025our parents the City of Lake Station in cooperation with the school district and Midwest Factory 55 is organizing a summer camp program for the month of June and also for three weeks into July the folders on the table contain this flyer and information about that program and registration and they are working with us after summer school hours for those students to participate in this program they're be doing things such as basketball flag football softball and pickle ball and lunches are free that will be provided to this program for students to participate in that summer program so I wanted to share that information with you you can also get information from our school they have the same packet of information about that sum of Camp secondly I'd like to recognize one of our employees our Deputy
026Treasurer payroll Jody Carr who has completed 73 hours of course instruction to be certified as a human resource specialist and she is working very hard to get that certification we are very pleased pleased and proud of her for her efforts the last announcement I have not only do we want to shine the light on our students and our employees and our PTO members for their hard work and dedication but the same is true for our school board members and we have Schoolboard members this evening that have been awarded cert not certification but have been awarded awards for recognition by the Indiana school boards Association for their hard work as well I'd like to name those board members and their Awards Kevin music is received the commendable Schoolboard member award David Wright has achieved the advanced
