The retainer fee is set. Next up, uh, the board would like to appoint our corporation physician for 2026 is Dr. Dallas Bowage. I'll make a motion to set his retainer at $500. Is there a motion or is there a second? >> Second by >> Becky. >> Any further discussion? With none, all those in favor signify by sign of I. >> I. Any opposed? >> Retainer is set at $500. Um, next up, uh, the board would like to appoint as the corporation's civil rights compliance officer, Lori Lang. Next appointment we would like to appoint as the representative to the Century Career
002Center Advisory Board, Michelle Starky. Congratulations. >> Next up, the Oh, here's a good one. Um, we'll appoint Mike McCord as the school representation on the parks board. Thank you. You're very welcome. What can we do next? Um, next we would like to appoint Milt Hess and Becky Grath as the school corporation representative to the bid committee. Next appointment is Michelle Starky who will be the school corporation representative to the Indiana Association of Public School Superintendent. Next up, we are appointing Vicky Bird as our representative to the legislative liaison to the ISBA. You looking for some reports on that? >> Next up is Michelle Starky. um representative, our representative to the climbers tiff board. Next up is our collective bargaining representatives. The appointees are Bill Cupy and Becky Gra. John Michael Price is our representative to
003be the leazison to the Logosport Redevelopment Commission. The next appointee is Bill CPY and Mike McCord will be the reps for the investment committee. The next appointment is Vicky Bird and Becky Grav are the reps to the superintendent evaluation committee. Lastly, we have a new appointment. It'll be Becky Gra. He'll be the liaison to the LCSC safety committee. Those are the appointees. And next up on the organizational meeting, are there any public comments? With none on this meeting, we will close this meeting and we are adjourned for the organizational meeting. Just take a minute to get things for the next meeting. What's the park? >> They all paid something. That's right. Do something Jason. >> All the restucks launcher next month. did all these >> for the twins. conservative or are they >> conservation drags
004her too. So I'm not going to lie. She probably She's actually a big part of >> I think it should be launching Yeah, those boots around. >> Yeah, that was interesting. I never >> start. >> Sorry. We're good to go. >> All right. At 510, we'll call to order our next meeting. It's the Board of Finance meeting. First up on the agenda is the election of officers. Is there a nomination for the president of the board of finance? >> I'd like to nominate Bill Cupy for president. >> Okay. Any other nominations for president? >> Same time. I'll open it up for nominations for secretary. >> We'll nominate Milt Hess. >> Okay. Milt. Any other nominations? If not, we'll move to a vote. Is there a I'll make a motion to um approve Bill Cupy as
005president of the board of finance. >> One of them got to get a motion. >> I'll make a motion to approve Bill Cupy as president and Milt as secretary of the finance committee. >> Is there a second that's not Bill or Mill? >> Second. First and second. Any further discussion? >> All those in favor? >> I. Any opposed? All right. Moving on to the annual review um corporate investment policy and for the finance report. Mr. Gray. Correct. >> Yeah. Your packet has two pieces of information from my office. Uh one a summary of the interest income earned for the corporation during calendar 25. Uh you can see rates uh our interest income has come down since last year. Uh that's driven by two factors. One being rates have declined over over calendar 25 and then
006in addition to that our cash on hand has also declined uh some during that same period of time. The biggest reason for that is u we had our bond project those proceeds as we spent those at the junior high obviously are not on hand to earn interest on. So that's the two biggest drivers of that decline in interest income. Uh, additionally, we've got an investment policy 6144, uh, which is part of the board policy program and, uh, we are still in line with state statute. So, there's no recommendation to adjust that policy at this time. I set up questions from the board. That's my report. Questions for Greg? Okay. Does that cover the fiscal indicators? >> That cover the fis fiscal indicators also. >> Yes. >> Okay. All right. With that, we will adjourn and
007close the board of finance meeting. And you just tell them when you're ready. Okay. She had the swing choir come in or something like that. Your little fell. Not anything. It's like guarantee challenges. I think it's just kind of >> agenda item. All right. >> All right. At 5:15, we'll call to order the uh regular school board meeting. First up is recognition. Mr. Stury. >> We would like to recognize Mr. Brian Strong. He was named the 2026 Indiana Basketball Coaches Association Athletic Director of the Year for District 1. AND I WOULD JUST LIKE TO SAY, you know, Brian does Brian does a lot for our students, for our community. Brings a lot of um IHSAA activity to the community, which a lot of people think like, oh well, that's not a that's not that big
008of a deal. It's a huge deal. First of all, it's a lot of time, energy, and effort. It's a way for us to show off our facilities. It's a way to bring people in. They stay in hotels. They eat here. they shop here. So, it has a it has a great economic uh impact also. And it also gives our kids uh opportunity to see other kids and all kinds of things. And Brian's very well connected across the state of Indiana. And we're thankful that he's a Logan Sport Barry for sure. So, yeah, we got our picture taken. >> Make sure my eyes are open. I'm not good. >> Thank you guys for >> this time. >> What did I do? >> Three pictures. >> What did I do? >> Oh, I closed my Okay, here
009we go. It's been a long day, Tim. >> Okay, let's see. >> All right, we're good. >> Good. Thank you. >> For once it wasn't me. >> All right. Next up is uh there'll be two opportunities for public comments. Um the first one which is now is intended for the agenda items. So, if you have a public comment about agenda items, please come to the podium um and state your name and address. There's none with the agenda items. So, moving on to first up is the consent agenda and there are nine items. I'll list them by name. Um first is minutes of the December 8th, 2025 regular school board meeting. Minutes of the December 8th, 2025 executive session. Minutes of the December 16th, 2025 special board meeting, personnel recommendations, field trip request, donation request, treasures
010report for November claims, and the 2025 year end budget transfers. Is there a motion to approve? >> So moved. >> Motion by Milt. Is there a second? Second. >> Second by Vicki. Any further discussion? >> Yeah, I I do have a question. >> Yes. Thank you. >> On the personal recommendations for employment, there were about four or five that were all a long time ago. um effective December 15th, effective three of them were leaves. Two of them were one of them was from um November to December. Why were they not on the ones effective December 15th? I would say this is probably our first board meeting since we got that one. Maybe I don't know. I can look and let you know. >> I just just curious. Um We had a medical leave act from
011September to December. It was September 29th to December 2nd. I'm just curious as to why we haven't some of these things were before. I mean, we had meetings since then. >> I can look and find out. >> Okay. Can't tell you right here. So Michelle will get back to us on those. >> Thank you. >> Um we can move forward with a vote. Um with that, all those in favor signify by sign of I. >> I. Any opposed? >> Okay, it's approved. And Michelle will get back to There's a couple. That's like robotics code. >> There's like three of them. I think there's three or four of them that >> I'm seeing just at a glance here. But um next up we do have a presentation. It so happens to be from our Logosport Intermediate
012School, Pete London. Pete, you're up. All right, we're ready to go. Okay, members of board, Mr. Stark, thank you. Um, I'm going to I I've been I've been hyped up that uh we're going to keep this short and sweet tonight. So, I'm going to I'm going to do my best to not be Bob. I'm kidding. I love Bob. Bob presentations are awesome. So, uh Logan Sport Intermediate School. Um I'm going to start right off with a quick video for you. This comes from um an issue that we just finished up before uh winter break. if it will load up um for us here. >> Maybe not going to spend a lot of time on it. >> So much for short and sweet. >> Never fails, Mel. It never fails. I'm just anxious to get to
013the questions part. All right, I'm going to move forward um if I have an opportunity to come back to it. But it had to do with one school, one book. Um, okay. >> The book that we chose um for the board members as you came in today, you probably saw that we've provided a copy of that book for you for your enjoyment as well. Um, it's a book Wonder by R.J. Palasio. Um, not to get into a big synopsis of it. Um, but it's about a student that has some very um identifiable physical disabilities. Um but he and his uh some of his classmates um take on uh different adventures and and challenges throughout their school. Um but it teaches good lessons about um acceptance and being kind uh to others. And so um that
014was made possible through the Cass County Community Foundation. Um they they are phenomenal um in this program. I know that there are many schools um in elementary across our corporation that will be participating in it as well. Um it's something that we did start last year. Um it was a huge success. Our children um and our students um really get engaged in it. Um it creates anticipation. Um our schoolwide engagement, we have a kickoff um that we kind of get the kids excited. That video that I was going to show you was from the kickoff. It was something that was created um by one of our staff members who did the voice over for the video and included a lot of different clips and snapshots of all of our different students um demographics and and
015everything included in that. And so um we celebrated daily with trivia um challenged the students to read each night a certain number of um pages or chapters so they were ready for the next day's activities um in the trivia in the morning for their class. And then also we did some things during their lunch periods and uh we gave away prizes and all kinds of things that were themed and related to the book as well. Um and I want to highlight um our positive behavior intervention supports. Um this program growth is is started um with the inception of LIS. Um it's continued to grow um with our implementation. You can see each year we do a kickoff uh program um where we really um try to integrate um how students can um interact and behave
016positively following our lead invest and serve motto um and how they can meet each one of those uh standards that we set at our school. Um we are consistent within that program. Um, our teachers are consistent with uh modeling expectations with um uh students earn points. They are are giving out students points that they can use for different types of incentives. Uh we have a PBIS store that's funded through a lot of donations. I know you guys see a lot of donations come through on your board packets for our PBS program and we are extremely grateful um for our community partners in that respect. Um, and you can see there at the bottom picture, um, that's just a a small sampling of things that we raffle off throughout the year as well as students meet
017certain, um, requirements to be entered into those raffles. Um, yes, that is a full size real guitar. Um, and that uh, that was purchased through those donations through PBIS. We have large art supplies, um, Bluetooth speakers, things of that nature, all the way down to some other things that I'll talk about as far as like what our students are actually engaged in purchasing through our PBIS store. Um, the other things that we like to do um, within that um, you can see here that these kids are holding the golden spatula. Um, so these students have demonstrated in our cafeteria um different aspects of what it means to lead, invest, and serve in others. Whether it's um cleaning up the floor and finding trash and picking it up without being asked to do so. Whether it's
018u maintaining a an orderly or a what we would refer to as an acceptable uh voice level um within their table. Um helping others. if uh we have somebody that may be suffering a temporary uh injury that can't necessarily carry a tray, they're willing to step up and carry somebody's tray for them from the line. Um and so we do this um on a weekly basis every Friday. This just happens to be from when it was warm out um and our students were able to sit in our courtyard area at one of the picnic tables for their lunch. Um we also do a PBIS check-in every morning with all students. Um throughout the first semester this year, we've had 92 students that have identified that they need some level of support. Um they would either
019come in and mark themselves as like angry or they're upset. Um and so our um counselors check in with them or somebody in the administrative side will check in with them to see kind of what's going on and how we can help assist them. Um I don't have it on there, but we've also helped with 155 other students um throughout the day that have also checked in um or come to to find some support through that. Our PBIS store, our top three items, sometimes people think it's just trinkets or it's little like gadgets and things that we give out. The top three are listed there um of what students are purchasing from the store. Um number one at the top of the list is extra gym time. And so this is something that Mrs. Pomalt.
020Um, she allows students that have purchased that to come down in the gym. She just gets all kinds of stuff out and kids have an opportunity to play different games and just go down there and uh and and socialize and unwind and and do different activities. Um, art and sketchbooks is a huge uh one for a lot of our students. And then even personal hygiene items and just simple school supplies, fun little school supplies, eraser caps that are fun. um different types of fun pencils or pens. Um and these things are relatively easy for them to obtain as long as they're earning those points um and and and so on. The outcomes that we look at is again functions um as something both for a behavioral framework and a support system for our students. Um
021it's encouraging those students to again lead, invest, and serve um our school community. Um, diving into some of the curricular sides of things, ELA and math. Um, we have implemented expansion um, our high ability. I'm I'm extremely excited about that. Working with um, Miss Rosie and Dr. Deal um, on the expansion of high ability this year for fifth grade. We have looked at some different um, types of data to look at expanding that. We're up to 55 students approximately um that are enrolled in ELA, math, and or both. Um we are across two teams um because of the number and the size of those groups. Um sixth grade currently has 37 students that are enrolled in math or ELA. Um our math class, I believe, is pretty much maxed out capacity somewhere around that 30
022mark. So, we have a lot a high number of students that are in math high ability um in grade six. And so, as we continue to work with um some of the professional development and training of our staff um which we just started that this uh this past week on Friday of last week um with some PD with with Dr. Deal. I thought that went extremely well. Um and our our staff was really really excited about that and we're looking forward to implementing a lot of those strategies in the class and continuing to offer um more equity um in that ex in that realm. Um again focusing on um curricular side engagement. Um we have open court and study sync. Those are two new curriculum items that we've implemented this year. Um we tried to
023find things um as far as curriculum goes that are a little bit more challenging and rigorous for our students. Um there is a lot more writing involved in this and our teachers are really trying to implement the writing aspect. Um and then we've also done some things strategically um with students that we know um there are widening gaps or wider gaps than others with um ELA scheduling. um we have a small more sheltered group for fourth period um that that teacher is um able to teach those students more on their uh level um and pushing them towards more grade level um uh work um because we know that they're significantly behind and so we're really using that um to try to to try to implement and to to bring those students achievement scores up. We
024uh piloted math fact lab for the second nine weeks. We collected data um weekly discussions during PLC. Um we have many students that are in the graduate level which is their beyond multiplication and division. Um and so um with that they kind of graduate out of that and they will transition um back into doing more of the my path um lessons within our I Ready curriculum. Um we have a lot of students that are gaining and making um progress towards completion of math facts and multiplication and division as well. U my path continues to be something that helps support our math instruction. Um it's a remediation tool that's built right into our curriculum. It's tailored uh to each individual student based on their diagnostic testing that we do at the beginning, the middle, and the
025end of the year. Um, I have a couple of examples of how um our EEL um instruction and our math instruction have combined to achieve some pretty impressive growth among some of our students. I'll show you that here in just a little bit. Um, this math curriculum focuses a lot on critical thinking, story problems, and uh, a lot of student discourse. they have a lot of discussion that goes on on how to solve problems instead of just sitting there and listening to the teacher or writing things on the board, copying it down. Here's your assignment, go for it. Um it's a lot more student centered and so we're starting to see and we see have seen already a lot of growth in that just to kind of give you an idea um from our beginning
026of the year to middle of the year I Ready uh diagnostics. So this is our math. Um at the top you can see our beginning of the year um at risk tier three which was around 52% to the middle of the year that number has dropped to 43%. And we always like to see that that red section starts to shrink and the yellows and the greens start to get bigger which um we are seeing that there. um as long as we are continuing on that trend um we are looking to uh meet or surpass our yearly goal that we have set for our building um and that uh Mrs. Starky and I have discussed as well. So um and I think that aligns in with what our district uh goals are um as well. So
027we're pleased with that. Um we're seeing some some positive growth in there. Attendance obviously that's a huge component. um we now know that it's going to be included in our overall um evaluation for school accountability. Um just in case uh I don't know that uh the data the the specifics of it I guess will be voted on I believe on Friday of this week. Um they'll have everything pretty much set in stone and how all those points are going to be awarded. Um but right now we average 96% on daily average attendance. um that's different than what the state holds us accountable to. Um the state holds us accountable um to how what percentage of students are meeting a 94% uh attendance rate. And so right now looking at the data that we ran for
028first semester, we're uh sitting right at about 514 out of 640 eligible students. And those are students that by my calculations would meet the 162day threshold that they have at the end of the year. A student that is here for less than 162 days would not earn any points for attendance. They would not count according to the current model that they have set. Now, that could change by Friday, but here we are, right? We're kind of looking at what we've already seen. Um, but they're looking at 162 days is a a minimum that they have to have um to be able to be counted on that for accountability. Um, and so 80% are at 94% or higher at this point. And then we have 66 students that are on a bubble. That's about 90 to
02993% um which is another 10% of our students. And then um I did run these numbers uh a little bit ago and we have approximately 22 students that if they didn't miss any more days this year, they would make the cut. But they can't miss anymore. Um that's about 4%. So, if you to tell total all those together and all those students make it, we have a 94% that are going to earn points um for our for our school in both ELA and math. So, um a lot more to come on that. Um it's something that Mr. Deon is in charge of with Mrs. Nichols and Mr. Hulkcom. Um they communicate with parents often um through letters and phone calls. So, um, but we're focused on trying to early intervention, getting to phone calls out
030and letters early, having conversations with parents, um, and student engagement increases, kids want to be at school. So, going back, I mentioned ELA, our EL learners, um, with, uh, Mrs. Damer transitioning to our EL teacher. I'm very, uh, fortunate and blessed that we were able to add that this year. Um, we have seen some tremendous growth. Um this is the the visual or the verbal um portion of it. Um weeda scores. We had a sixth grade EL student in Mrs. Damer's EL level one lab. That means that student is either anywhere from a one to a 1.9. Um we had a student that had a WEDA composite of a 1.5. Their end of the year last year diagnostic in math. They were at a grade two. They were a struggling reader. They had to have
031things translated for them. They did the middle of the year diagnostics just um before uh winter break. They tested at a mid6th grade and completed the entire assessment in English. Um and I'll show you the chart of what that growth looks like um on a on a scale score. And then we also had another fifth grade student again weeda um composite of 1.9 um went from around a fourth grade um level to sixth grade. um on theirs. And so they they are specifically in those classes, lab classes with her throughout the day. Um and they hit the the four domains extremely hard, the the listening, speaking, reading, and writing um on a daily basis. And those things are also continuing into the classroom, which reinforces what they're already doing in those labs. And so um
032with the implementation of that, we're seeing a lot of growth within our EL. Here's that data. I know it's very, very hard to see. Um, but our sixth grader is down here at the bottom left and you can see from last year to here is plus 106 points and our fifth grader is over here um gained 87 points um on that. So, um again very impressive um two different grade levels um but uh we're seeing uh gains like that across the board as well. So, like I said, I'm going to try to keep this short and sweet. Um, in closing, um, some key takeaways, again, strong academic growth, um, targeted programs such as our EL programming, continue with our I Ready Math. We're seeing some some good things coming out of that. Um, more rigorous,
033uh, ELA instruction. Um, we hope to continue to see improvements in comprehension. Um, consistent attendance and student engagement. Our PBIS and our EL supports again strengthen the whole child. Um and then moving forward again continue to to make those data driven driven decisions. Um continue to try to look at ways that we can expand programs successfully where they're sustainable um and they fit within the the parameters that we have and the means that we have um and then again continue to stay staying focused on student achievement and their well-being. So um I'm more than happy to answer all of Milt's questions. No, if you have any questions I I'm fire away. >> I won't let you down. >> Okay. >> Um going back to the PBIS and the support for this students who need a
034little extra support. How does that process start? Is that student initiated? Do they come in? Does a student come in and say, "I need some help this morning. I'm having some trouble or I had some trouble overnight." What's the process? How does that process get started on >> Yeah, great question. First thing, and this is again, this is a part of that that process that we have on a daily basis. They'll come in um every single student goes to an impact class and within that impact class, the first thing that they do is they get on to PBIS and they do a check-in. Whether they're happiest kid on the planet, they just click green. I'm good. If they're like, eh, I kind of like I kind of had a rough night. didn't really get a
035lot of sleep, they might click a a yellow kind of like a the meh face or if they had a rough night, they have they have something going on and they're just out of sorts, um they'll click red there. If if they're not really if they if they exhibit any behaviors or things, the teacher would notice that and they they'll contact somebody and just say, "Hey, I we might want to check in with soand so and we'll get with them as soon as we possibly can." >> So there's a checks and balance. So even if a student clicks green, a staff member would notice something and >> Yep. >> move move some help in there. >> Yep. Absolutely. >> Good question. Anybody else? >> Okay. >> All right. Well, thank you. I appreciate your time.
036Thank you. >> Okay. Next up is an action item. consideration to approve the updates and changes to the LCSC transportation handbook. There to be 15 proposed changes. A lot of them are focused on safety changes. Um added Laura as the assistant transportation director. I didn't see anything. Um is there motion to approve? So moved. >> Motion by Mike. Is there a second? >> Second by Vicki. Any further questions, discussions? With none, all those in favor signify by sign of I. >> I. Any opposed? >> With none, it is approved. Next up is a first reading. We have a batch of policies. Um, they're up for first reading. In memory of Mike, I'll read them. This is for the video. It's for the video. First batch in this first reading bucket is policies 0142 0144.1 167.2
0373220 3220.01 4162 5330 6320 7455 7540.02 902 and 8452 and 8462. There's names attribute to all those numbers. Um it's just first reading. Those are available in the superintendent's office for the public if you have the desire to read one of those policies. The next batch for first reading is also available in the superintendent's office. That grouping is policy 1422 1422.02. 02 1662 2260 2260.01 3122 31 22.02 3362 4122 4122.02 and 4362. Those will be up for approval. Second reading next month. On to department updates and comments. Mr. Correct, you're up first. Just a couple three items for your benefit tonight. Our audit, our our regularly scheduled bannual audit is r winding down here this month and I do anticipate uh will be a standard exit conference towards the end of the month. I don't
038have a hard date yet, but they'll communicate that and uh obviously we'll reach out and get the appropriate people involved and and go from there on that. So, more to come on that item. A second item for your benefit form nine which is part of our semianuals required state reporting for financial information. Uh we completed that process this afternoon and uh again kind of a more to come uh report later this month with you folks uh in terms of giving you some information as we wound down the uh calendar 25 financials. So again more to come on that. Uh last item for your benefit would be let's see here. Oh yeah. Next meeting we've got uh we'd like to bring before you the the calendar school year 2728 school calendar before the board at our
039next meeting in February for your consideration. So that's 2728 school year. long time. >> We're good next year, but with the following, we're trying to stay ahead of that for a lot of planning purposes and u we have some other school partners that are tied to the career center and things of that nature that it's good to get out in front of that and and get it in place so that they can also plan and to send their students here. Okay, >> outside of that, that's my report for tonight. Okay. >> Thank you, Greg. Questions for Greg? with none. Thank you, Mr. Fall. You're >> good evening. Uh, >> a couple things. We're in over spring break, we're going to be replacing our phone system. And so, um, I've been visiting all of our buildings
040doing an inventory of our phones. And we will be on track to start that project the Thursday before spring break and wrap it up on Friday of spring break. >> Our current corporationwide phone system. Yeah. So, we'll do one building at a time. >> Um, >> who is Hillary? What's the vendor to what vendor? >> So, our current vendor is Mel. They filed bankruptcy recently, >> so I can't get software updates and they don't support the hardware anymore. >> No wonder we got such a good deal. >> That was back in I believe is in one is when that system was put in by Frontier. So, um I had >> received quotes for a replacement phone system um ranging from 7,000 to uh 25,000 a month. So, the the costs are wide for the exact
041same product. Um we settled with Metronet which was the low on the the lowest quote of 7500. So, it's a cloud hosted voiceover IP phone system. So, we don't have any hardware on site except the phones themselves. And then they're also our internet provider. So, we already have an existing relationship with them. And um if you see T Fiber trucks around town, Metro have bought T-Mobile. So, their their residential um business the res business is staying separate, but residential was merged with T-Mobile. So, it's called T5 now. Um, so that's in process. We're working on that. And then February 2nd and 3rd, we'll be replacing our servers in the back here. Um, they were put in, I believe, 6 years ago. Um, so they need to be updated. We have a server. The new ones
042are in the back. We'll be putting those in on February 2nd and 3rd. And then some good news. I got a notice back from today that our discount rate went up. So historically we've been at um 80% reim reimbursement for B rate. That's gone up to 85% for our internet. And then um our other category that when we buy switches went from 80% to 90%. So we were concerned about that because of our lunch program and the way that worked out, but the opposite effect happened. So our our responsibility went from 20% down to 10%. Which is great. And then our aotment went up to we were getting 725,000 every 5 years and now we're up to 850,000. So that covers things like network switches, wireless networking. So >> with things that have recently been
043happening financially at the federal level, I was surprised to see that. So that's all >> good news in there. >> Yeah. >> Mhm. >> Especially when we were looking at like is going to go away. >> Yeah. >> Long ago. It's like oh >> this is true. We survived it for now. >> Don't know these things. >> Any questions for Jason? >> Okay. Curriculum. Which one of you want to kick it off? >> We start with Andy. >> Yeah, I'll go first. Of course. Um so testing the season is truly upon us now. Um WEDA opened today. So we will be testing all of our English language learners from K to 12. Um and in seven short weeks I read opens. So mainly testing second third graders. Um last year our second graders at the
044time we had about 48% pass that third grade test. That means those third graders do not have to take it this year which is a positive. We also saw a lot of really good growth last year and we're expecting the same this year. >> All right, good evening. I'll go ahead and start with the junior hockey. So, they have I learn checkpoint um math makeups that are coming up, but preliminary data with checkpoints for ELA are positive. So, we are cautiously optimistic that they'll continue in that direction. um especially when comparing them not only over time but comparing apples to apples the checkpoints to the checkpoints from last year. So that's fantastic. Um they are going to be adding a digital media arts class so they are coordinating with Mr. Isles from the career center
045to add that. And then also Dr. Jenny was here last Wednesday and Thursday and so she is our literacy consultant and she met with departments um last week during prep periods. She also did some modeling. We're specifically looking at explicit vocabulary teaching and then also like a schoolwide annotation system so that it it is the same across the board regardless of which class you go to. And then they have sixth grade transition night tomorrow. And then from the high school, they are welcoming the class of 2030 on Wednesday um at 6 PM in male. It's that time already to discuss all the important information about the next school year. And then they want to give a huge congratulations to Lady Berry wrestlers Aaliyah Kinder and Olivia Gibson because they advanced from the regional tournament this
046weekend in Cooko. So Aaliyah finished third and Olivia was your regional champion. And so Thursday afternoon at 3:00 they are going to do their state sendoff that Mr. Miller started last year and wish those girls well. So that's it. >> Very good. Very good. Any questions? >> M Stucky, you're up. >> Yeah, just um I was just gonna I'll piggy back off the the wrestlers. Um girl wrestling in the state of Indiana is a new IHSA sport. Um this is the second year, second year. >> Second full year. And so Olivia Gibson, she recorded actually her hundth victory uh during the sectional, which is pretty amazing. So, and the girls actually won the sectional, which is fabulous. So, it's exciting to have two girls representing Loganport High School at the state tournament uh Friday. So,
047that's wonderful. Um Brandy said we are entering, we've started WEDA season. So, we go from WEDA to I read to ILarn, back to the second I read window, and then school's over. So basically um the second semester is testing after testing after testing on top of then you add the end of course assessments and AP tests at the high school and all of that fun stuff. So, um, we continue to follow I know they're just now in session, but there's been a lot of conversation obviously on with the legislators coming from the early start of their session um on cell phone use and what that's going to look like or I should say no cell phone use uh for next year. So, we continue to follow all of that um amongst many other things as
048they talk about educational issues. So anxious to see uh Thursday is when they're supposed to approve um the accountability the new accountability model. It was originally supposed to be approved in December. We've had a couple um presentations on that. And so once it the final once it's finally approved um we're going to have another one with um just specific Logan Sport information. So starting to take a look at all all of that. um see how that's going to fold out because it'll it too will be interesting. Along those same lines, I gave you an update and sent a press release to the newspaper. I was um the the state graduation rates came out last last week in the newspaper. I don't remember what day it came out because I was kind of, as I told
049all of you, caught off guard by that because they were they're supposed to be approve voted on at the 14th board meeting and then released. So ours was re everybody's was released. um Loganport High School's graduation rate is not correct. Um we have five students um in total that have graduated and so Mr. Miller and his team are diligently working through that process. I think they we've been in contact with um Ron Sandlin at the Department of Education. Um so they have a meeting tomorrow morning just to make sure all the data that they have is correct before they submit it. And then they'll submit that and then um hopefully uh those five students will be approved. they have graduated. So, um that will be approved and then our graduation rate will be a lot
050higher. So, um more to come on that, but thank you guys, Mr. Miller and your team for all the work on that. Um it's important to get it right obviously for for many reasons. Um and then, uh Wednesday morning, we kick Wednesday morning, we'll kick off, um the strategic plan process. We have all of our team members, um and teams identified. Um, we had over 400 uh, responses from the community, which was wonderful. And so Sherry took all of the board information from our board retreat and then took all of the data that we got from staff and community members um, and put that into a nice document uh, kind of under the pillars um, that that they fit under. Um, and she she did also highlight all the board comments in a different color.
051So while they're under those pillars, team members can see, okay, here's what the board's thinking. We I felt like that was important. So anyway, we're excited to get that process uh going and and get that plan rolled out here hopefully in May, if not in June. So um those are all the board comments I have. >> Thanks, Michelle. Any comments? Okay, next up on the agenda is the uh second and final opportunity for public comments. If you have a comment, please come to the podium and state your name and address. >> My name is Jordan Van Horn. You said address. >> Address. Yeah, >> address. 2112 North Court, Loganport. You guys are all aware. I'm not going to go into detail of what's going on, but I do have some questions about policies and procedures
052that I thought maybe you would have the answer to if that's okay to ask. >> Van, I don't you know, obviously we've been talking and well, you you just asked a question and the form here permits you to speak and >> Well, I had a speech all written out, but >> Well, that's okay. I'm not trying to I'm not preventing you from talking. I'm going to answer your question. This is not a form for debate. If they want to engage you and answer your questions, that's their >> then that's fine. >> That's their choice. But >> yeah, that's >> if they don't want to do that, it can become awkward because you'll be sitting there asking questions and you won't be getting responses. And I just know that from my past experience. So, I'm just
053letting you know that that's their choice as to whether or not they want to respond to your questions. You're more than happy to ask the questions. Okay. >> Okay. And I don't All right. Okay. So, did you guys know the original date of my fura request when I had put this in and that there 45 day I put it in September 22nd since nobody knows the answer to that and I have asked for the data for my daughter because her grades were changed. I have since pulled her out of school and I put in a record request to P school. Jason says that that is not something that they can find. They It's deleted. What is your retention on the >> D? That is not accurate. I never told you it was deleted. >> Okay.
054>> That's inaccurate. >> That it wasn't a retrievable. Oh, I I'm happy to provide any responses that you ask in writing, but that is not accurate. >> Okay. All right. >> What is your retention? Like he said it resets after 30 days. So, is that is that true that it resets after 30 days? >> I know. >> Nobody. >> I mean, I'll let them speak for themselves. I don't think >> anybody What's the retention policy then? I think what you're going to find is that they don't know. These people aren't educated about the nuances of who makes the policies >> technology system. >> Who makes the policies? >> They approve the policies. The policies are created by legislation. Policies are created by Neiola. All kinds of organizations. They approve them. I mean, I don't have
055a problem with Mr. Fall generally trying to answer your questions. If he wants to do that, I'm fine with that. There's not an attempt to try and limit information. I just think you're asking unless somebody here wants to speak. I mean I don't know that these people have >> any real in a general sense um >> concept of the to the the complexities of our >> I mean a teacher is putting in a grade into the system >> if they go in and audit that grade is there a trail for that or can teachers just openly go in and change grades how they want? >> There is not an audit trail and they can go in and change the grades as >> Okay. So, how are we proving that those grades are accurate? >> That's
056the teacher's responsibility >> because, and this is what is concerning, is my daughter's grades went up after I filed or made a complaint to the school about a teacher that she had an issue with and then on that same day, she was rode up by that teacher for something that happened three weeks prior. So, what is the policy on like putting something in when somebody's wrote up? Because that looks like retaliation to me. I mean, it does. And I really feel like I I have asked these questions over and over, and he acts like I'm it's harassing, but I haven't got any answers. I haven't got any proof. I would be done with it if you guys would provide proof. >> Listen, Miss Van Horn, you know, we've obviously again been talking, you know, outside
057of this uh facility. We've spent >> you called and tried to intimidate me twice. >> I did not try to intimidate you. >> I I know you were recording the phone calls. It indicates that >> absolutely because that has that same thing happened with anyone you want. Listen, there are processes for you >> and I followed everything. There are processes for you to seek a modification or amendment of your students records under FURba. And I have invited you more than once to seek the advice of legal counsel. So you can do that. >> Okay? >> And I would I'll do it for a third time. I'll invite you, >> okay? >> To seek the advice of legal counsel. You can try AI or whatever you want. The product that that creates is not always reliable.
058But FURPA, I think it's section 95, it might be 99. It's one of those sections has a process for you to seek the amendment to your students records and it involves >> it's not just amending who can just go in there. >> So I would invite you to do that. Okay. >> Where is accountability and transparency? >> It's part of that process. Okay. Okay. All right. Thank you. >> Thank you. >> Any more public comments? Uh moving on to member comments. Anybody have any comments? >> Um thank you Mr. Lundy for the presentation. Very informative. >> Same here. Thank you Mr. Lundy and also Bill. Thank you for stepping up. Yes, good times. >> We appreciate it. >> Last time I was here, we had CO. So, let's hope that doesn't reverse that problem. Let's
059not >> as uh secretary for 27 straight years. Anything. >> Well, thank Mike for uh sitting in the president's seat for the last several years maybe. And he'll be around he'll be around another seven, eight to 10 years. So, he may end up back there again. But, um, thank you. We also tonight approved a resignation of our EL director. Want to thank you, Mrs. McMahon, for what you've done in that department. Um, I was going to vote no, but I didn't want to cause a stir. So, um, we wish you well. >> Thank you for your service. There's no place better than >> um as they have noted this is my 18th year. Um and I think for 17 of those I've either been president or vice president for 17 years. And during that time
060I have had the opportunity and the and the the pleasure to not only represent the community but to get a little deeper dive into our people. Um, and I have to say that that um, in that time um, we've had a lot I just see a lot of people that step up and do things above and beyond what they're required to do as as teachers. Um, I've seen it also in all of our staff and people even janitors, bus drivers, you hear you'll hear stories about how wonderful they are. Um I I have found our administrators to be excellent and I say for a town our size I am amazed how often times that we do things that bigger cities don't do. Um even the ch I mean when I came I mean it is
061long before I started but I mean just the the e situation in English learning to take that on I mean I I remember I think it was water Iowa was was who Tyson circa Wilson's whatever had that and they had all kind oh gosh it's terrible. I've been amazed how Logan board has embraced that and has taken that diversity on and really made it be something really positive. I see Mr. Mike Thistle here this evening. He was, I think, on the board one year, maybe two years before I before I got or after I got on. And I have to say that um through the years, I have found that that the board members on this board um that they take seriously the task of trying to do what's best for Logan's board, for our
062kids, and I appreciate that. I I find that I I can't think of a name of people that have been on the board that I find that were not did become a friend in some ways because he could see their heart, how much they cared about our school and our kids and that kind of stuff. So anyway, um yeah, I'm not going away yet. >> Yeah, I got I got four more years. We're have to run again. Um but I say I just want to say thank you to all those people and I I should thank Mrs. Starky too because uh right after Mr. Thistle left and we kind of came on um we had to go through a superintendent change and I I will never forget that um you know at times when I
063came on there were accusations that some people used Loganport as a stepping stone. They would come here looking for a better job and I I'll never forget in in our interview process with Mrs. Starky she said to us she said something and it was there too by the way. So, another old dog. Um, but she said she said, "I have to do a good job every single day cuz I want to retire from here." Um, and that that hit me interesting at first and thought, "Wow, that I mean because the other guys are looking for just I I need to do enough stuff so I can find another job someplace else in some other community." And I was impressed the fact that she said that. Another thing that she said at one point in time
064is that she said, "I I feel like I represent all the kids of this corporation. and they're all my children. And I have I have seen her uh do that over and over again where she tries to um take care of of all the students that that are that are given to us to try to make their lives better. Um so that's about all I've got, but I say I'd like to I'd like to thank everybody everybody in this room and I say all the entire staff of the corporation like you know the parents and and students also because I've seen some amazing cases. We had an EL student, I think it was two years ago, that that started out coming to the United States and only could could speak count to five when she
065went to kindergarten, became a valid Victorian of our class. Um, you know, 12 years later. Um, so just amazing, you know, that doesn't happen by accident. It happens with a lot of people who give of their heart. I call it the heart of a teacher. Um, and so anyway, we will continue on. And I say I I I we're in wonderful hands. You know, I'd say I I I guess I'm kind of stepping back from what I've done forever. And I say kind of glad actually. >> But but you know, >> I'm wondering too. >> These are Yeah, >> these are another set of fine people. I think I'm going to have some friendships here. Oh no. >> Got to say I I have I have continued to be through my entire time impressed with
066how the the the people that are on this board um they take it seriously. just just didn't, you know, run for school board and thinking because I I I hear I've heard stories of in some communities where somebody runs for a single issue and that's what they wanted to do with I have found that the people that have been on this board in in my years have always cared about the whole thing and we get these presentations like tonight. We thank Pete for that. Um where you just hear about the things that are going on in every single school building that makes us kind of special. So that's all I've got. Thank you. >> I've talked enough for three meetings. We are board signatures and
