One nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. All right. No recognitions tonight. So, we're just moving right along now. Uh, first thing on the agenda is the public comment. At this time, you may make something comment from the public about something that's on the agenda this evening. you do so come to the microphone. No takers. All right. Next on the agenda is the consent agenda. The consent agenda includes the minutes of the May 19th uh 2025 executive session, minutes of the May 19th, 2025 regular schoolboard meeting, personnel recommendations, donation requests, the treasures report for April 2025, and claims. Do I have a motion to accept the consent agenda? So move. Is there a second? Second. Any discussion? All those in favor signify by sign of I. I. All those opposed, same sign.

Motion passes. Next is a presentation by Mrs. McMahon. your world. Got the whole handbook tonight, JD. Oh, yeah. I can't wait either. He's going to go through page by page. We know he is. Well, good evening. Hello. I got it. I've got it. You got it. Plus, it's different. Uh, there's an added page or two. Make sure and resend it to me. team me please. Yeah. Well, you know, it's hot off the press as of what maybe 10 minutes ago, right? I was like, I think I want to say this and that, too. Okay. So, we're going to start off with just a little quiz cuz school's not quite out. So, we're going to call this one truth or talk. So, truth or talk. Adults are better at learning a second language than young children.

Is that truth or is that talk? Truth. talk more. I hear a little bit of both. I hear a little bit of both. Actually, that is the truth. Adolescence and adults are better at a second language than learning than children. And sometimes it may appear the other way around, but it really comes down to that most of the conversation, most of most of language for students comes in more of a social setting and adults inquire a more complex um environments when they're learning language. The other piece of it, and it's so interesting, is we've had our um our uh title teachers go through their dyslexia trainings and our EL teachers going through their EEL trainings is that uh it young children will pronounce sounds better than adults. And that actually has to come has to

do with the science behind that at a certain age, our brains stop hearing sounds. So, if we're raised with not hearing a twirling of an R, it's harder for us to detect that twirling of an R and then produce that twirling sound. So, um, that one is a truth. Next one. Immersion is the best way to learn a second language. Truth or talk? We all got quiet cuz some people missed it. Come on. This is a safe place. You can do this. Truth. Truth. Truth. Actually, that one is talk over two. I know. That's okay. You got this, JD. We believe in you. Eels um eels who are immersed in classrooms where only English is spoken may find the experience and their learning in incomprehensible. Um, one thing that I want you to remember from

tonight is that language learning is intentional. It is an intentional practice that has to happen within their classroom. just having a student sit and listen to a second language, they're not going to acquire that. Um, I was actually reading an article right before I came down here about the research behind trans languaging, and that is when students are using all of their linguistic repertoire that they have when when learning. So they um anyway, but that one is that is talk that trans languaging and um immersion and that we need to have um intentional practices when teaching our eels. A student's first language interferes with his or her ability to learn a second language. You've got this one. That's got to be talk, right? A student's first language is going to support his or her understanding

of a new language. Truth or talk, it takes between five to seven years to become proficient enough in a second language to succeed in an Englishonly classroom. This one is true. Second lang. But hold on because hold on to that thought because second language learners need at least 5 years to understand in the best learning conditions to succeed in Englishonly classrooms with minimal to no support. And that's going to come in um I want you to think about our English language learners and how many of them have had five consecutive years of the best learning conditions. Not very many of them, right? We we've had some interruptions. We've had some gaps. So, the growth that we are going to see in our English language learners is truly a testament of their hard work because it's

not been easy. Uh let's talk about this a little bit. Um, after one or two years of learning a language, students can typically communicate in social stud settings. And we call that their
