opposed all right that's approved uh moving on to the board Finance report Mr CRA sure uh you've got a letter and some corresponding uh supporting information uh in your packet uh briefly I'll reference the policy which is policy 6144 uh as we review that policy there at this time there's no uh need for any adjustments to that policy it just references our our investment options and it's really driven by the state of Indiana certainly certificates of deposit where the principal is protected is the most risk they want to take so that's that's kind of how we have to operate so um ABS questions on the policy uh we have no changes for that this time around and uh it does meet current ADN code any questions from Mr CCT so addition um I'm required to
supply you with uh interest income information per state of Indiana uh pretty solid year this year with rates uh remaining High uh coming off of calendar 2020 3 um in 2024 rates stayed High we even concluded the year still earning a little over 4% so uh it turned out that we brought in about $44,000 of interest income for calendar 24 uh signs are Corning that rates may dip a little bit here in 25 but we'll play the wait and see game and and let that happen as it does we've also got some history there from the past seven or eight years uh to look at and consider um so it's nice to have the little extra income in 24 and we'll hope that we land probably somewhere between 23's numbers and 24s in calendar 25
absent of questions about the report or in general uh you have my report for this item nothing further all right nothing further moving on to the finance yeah U we're going to have a quick couple slides for you we had some technical difficulties I'll just walk through the fiscal indicators for you uh the state of Indiana in terms of uh trying to provide the public with transparency with school corporation funding and and information from the school corporation uh where they have identified some indicators what they call fiscal indicators um enrollment happens to be one cash balances um tax rate uh circuit breaker things of that nature happy to report our enrollment since 2006 has remained very steady uh from 4100 to 4300 has been kind of our typical range for the better part of all
those years so uh does make budgeting a little more simp simplified and it certainly helps us from having to build additional buildings when enrollment is steady and then conversely if it it would decrease we would have other things to consider but um happy to report enrollment continues to be nice and steady for us uh that's probably our most uh Cornerstone of of what we do and how it builds the the funding but uh additionally we have cash balances cash balances are continuing to improve over the last several years and uh happy to report that and lastly probably the one indicator that's noteworthy for the public would be our circuit breaker circuit breaker for for Logan sport schools continues to be uh the one kind of negative uh indicator uh not much we can do about
it it's Indiana law that that caps property tax monies for the schools and cities and whatnot but uh to the tune of about $2 million is how it impacts our budget with those circuit breaker caps in place so U we'd certain like to have those dollars to help fund programs uh on the operations fund but uh at this time we we're averaging about 2 million in in dollars that we do not receive receive under the property tax cap holes absent of additional questions involving the indicators uh that's my report for indicators can you remind us where we can find this information certainly certainly so if you go to indiana.gov and simply search for Indiana Public Schools uh fiscal indicators uh all that information for all schools in Indiana is available simply select Logan Sports schools
and you'll have a wide of data that you can U reference and uh dive into anything further no other topics no other comments the board of Finance meeting is adjourn think we need that all right we will now go to our third meeting this is now call to order the um regular school board meeting call that in order one of the fun things tonight we get to do is recognition app's teacher of the M it's allun it's all fun ask Mr lendy from logas for intermediate school to introduce the Applebee's teacher of the month who comes from the Intermediate School sure um thank m tury board um pleasure to be here tonight to um honor one of our uh teachers um Applebee's teacher of the month is an award that's been ongoing for quite a
while um it's uh in our building um we put this out to the staff um the staff is the one that kind of drove this um they chose um somebody in our building who um they they think highly of um and so we collected um some surveys information they were able to make comments it was completely Anonymous um we did not collect their names or anything like that but one of the things that we did do is um anybody that was nominated we shared um what their colleagues had to say about them and why they nominated them even if they weren't chosen um as the Applebee's teacher of a month and and they were very appreciative of that um knowing that they were being recognized um and so that goes along kind of with a
lot of our um staff employee morale that we're we're trying to implement and just building that culture there I'm just going to share one particular um response um in regards to our applebe teacher of the month Mrs Hayes um her family's here so says Ashley exemplifies the lead invest and serve every day she creates a supportive engaging classroom where students Thrive she goes above and beyond to meet their individual needs Ashley collaborates with colleagues sharing ideas and fostering a positive School culture often here students talk positively about Mrs Hayes and I have witnessed her positivity in the hallways with staff and students Ashley's passion and commitment Inspire everyone around her making her truly deserving of this recognition and so I'm not going to say anything else because that pretty much sums it up and so
our Applebee's teacher of the month this is Ashley [Applause] Hayes congratulations Ashley thank you let's get a picture okay perfect thank you you come up and take one or you're good thank you I always offer that welcome I didn't hear what she teaches uh Ashley is sixth grade science teaches sixth grade science in team one for us so thank you very much all right now it's time for another opportunity to have public comments you can speak come up and talk about anything it's on the agenda this evening fakers Right Moving on the consent agenda items on the consent agenda this evening are the minutes of the December 9th 2024 regular Schoolboard meeting men the December 9th 2024 executive session Personnel recommendations field trip requests donation request Treasures report for November and claims I'll make a
motion to me accept this is there a second second all right any further discussion I might mention we had nine different groups give uh in the donation request portion which is pretty impressive and we even had a uh Anonymous donation that was for $3600 $3600 to be used for the uh stem program and that's pretty impressive we also had some other donations um some other large donations and I say appreciate that and and uh we never know if people want to be recognized or not but I say to the people that have given this money for this stuff we've got uh $6,700 going for the uh intermediate schools robotics program um some people gave $500 for the the pantry $100 the gymnastics program $50 The Magpie $100 for the Columbia Elementary to purchase winter coats
for kids um and another one a $2,000 for a variety of prizes for the PBIS program um so say very very thankful to individuals businesses uh government things all I've done that so I just want to recognize that because it's larger than normal um all those in favor signifi by sign of I I all those oppos same sign consent agenda passes next comes our most second favorite thing and that is the presentation tonight we have the loog sport Intermediate School presentation all right again good evening um wanted to take a moment um to first off welcome um new board member to um the presentation portion of the meetings um we we are excited to be able to share um a lot of things um that Logansport Intermediate School has been doing throughout the semester um
we try to highlight uh some of the the key things for um our culture initiatives um some of the the programming that we have some new um curriculum programming that we're implementing and trying to continue to expand um and so I'm going to I'm going to go ahead and click through um here and then we also have some of our students here that I wanted to bring in and uhe they're going to do a presentation on um one of their it's essentially their child like they they developed this they created it they came up with the whole plan the idea and they have taken it and just and gone with it and it's super awesome um and I'll let them kind of share a little bit more along with that um the five Seas of
success and this is kind of again continuing on from last year um compassion caring and supportive um Community um a sense of togetherness and pride that's something that we've really really tried to continue to focus on um throughout out um different activities um clubs extracurriculars classrooms um local community uh partners and agencies that come in um inviting them in to come in and see what we're doing collaboration of staff students and parents um always having an open door where they can come in to to talk with us to speak to us share um successes share concerns um and then commitment investing in initiatives um in each other and again when we talk about things like staff morale um we're also you know looking at you know building culture um in a building where you know
last year it was the blending of of a whole group of new kids um and I think we were off to a really great start and we just wanted to continue uh to grow on that um and then our culture who we are and what we do um at Logan sport Intermediate School and and every single day um we end our pledge um or our announcements with um our Barry pledge which will come up on the next slide but again our theme and our vision again it's continuing with we had really good success last year um with our theme and vision and so we just wanted to continue on with that same theme um one team one family leading investing in and serving others and so you know using that as our our motto every
day we finish up um our announcements with our very pledge again today a lead in a positive manner and in myself and serve others because we're proud to be loganp berries and so um it's not just something that we say it's something that we continue to um reinforce with all of the things that we do um incentivizing um Behavior incentivizing academics um and then rewarding students for for outstanding achievements so without further Ado I'm going to turn this over to group of students that we have here and they're going to share a few slides with you tonight so come on up all right okay you guys have the floor I'll just click the slides you guys can stand over there okay H hi my name's Ellie gr densborn my name's Bren mccardy my name's Sera
PR and we are sixth graders in the anti- litter C I don't know how to why did you start the anti Club oh yeah uh we started the anti- litter Club because we felt that there was a lot of trash on the playground and we felt that we needed a change and so that there was less littering going on dumers um we made these like um cardboard boxes with trash bags in them for paper only because um there's lots of paper activities we do and they usually the paper just goes in the trash so we made a recycling bin to put the paper in instead of the trash can and then we in the morning we go every other Friday we go to the lunchroom and get the trash barrel and then we go to
the classes and take the bag out and put it in the barrel and then we add a bag to it and then we dump it in the recycling okay uh you have to make sure that you can't put anything like staplers or pencils into the recycling bin video um because then the school gets sued wa right fine that fine you're fine keep going keep going you're goodine so fine same thing so this is I'll uh I'm going to play a quick video so this was their intro video that they created and and I want to I'm going to backstory this a little bit so these these three here along with a few others they emailed me and they said hey Mr Lundy we have an idea for a new club that we think that we
would need at Lis and so I said absolutely come on in and we'll sit down and talk and so they came in they pitched their idea to me you know we sat down I asked them some questions that they may not have had the answers to at that moment but it was certainly something for them to think about they went back with their group um they talked about it they got some sponsors Mrs damer and Mrs Barts are are kind of helping uh guide them um and then they came up with a plan they came up with their um objectives their club's motto um their meeting schedules when they were going to meet how they were going to operate this and then it just kind of grew from there and so this was the video
that they created to um kind of promote their Club um that we sent out to all of our impact teachers the impact teachers would play them during their impact class um and I think currently Mrs damer might be able to share how many members are we at we have about 16 students that are members and we have six teachers that um kind of watched them and helped them pick up trash during brain break we've picked up 20 bags of trash so far um also we are 20 we have 20 teachers that are recycling the paper right now and we have partnered with the parks department to do some picking up at the parks on the weekends and after school things like that also Earth Day we have a big program that we're doing that we're
partnering with the what's it called truck there's a slide yeah we've got a slide I'll show I'll show the video this is their recruitment video hell I'm and I am this is the name of the club is the anti Club what we do is help the community by picking a trash and it also helps Mother Nature let's go talk to oh hi I didn't see you there my name is Ellie and I'm one of vice presid and this is what we [Music] do Ste and sof I pick up even the littlest pieces of trash don't why should people join the anti- litter Club girls because it helps the community and our school okay hope to see you there warm out all right so again first initiative starting small um really just focusing on the grounds
around our school obviously you know we we're out in an area where it's pretty open and you know even things that aren't created or put there by us or our students end up there um and so they saw that and wanted to take that initiative to come up with an idea on how we could start to kind of clean up at least the areas that that we use and um frequent on a daily basis okay the second initiative that they were talking about and and Mrs Damon referenced um was our community cleanup dates if you guys want to talk a little bit about some of those that you've done already so talk them about where you've gone so far so I think we've only really done one yeah we've only done one and it was
at uh Riv Riverside Park and we went down the path and we picked up trash in the paths too construction work okay and so some of the things that um they discussed as a group obviously is safety um so using the the proper PPE so they wear gloves they know not to pick up you know sharp objects um they have adults with them too so they can be alerted if there's you know things like needles or anything like that on the ground um but then just general pieces of trash picking that up um they reached out to the parks themselves as a group um the parks people were were all about it they they welcom them in they're they're happy um that we have a young group of of individuals in our community that are
are so excited about doing this and again it's not anybody telling them like hey we've created this group now we need kids to be a part of it it's all them and and so that's that's awesome and then the third initiative that they talked about um and referenced is the recycling and this is something that's fairly new a new idea I think as the weather changes um they're coming up with other ways to implement um this program even within the school and so looking at trash consumption and uh paper consumption I know that uh they've sat down with me as well as I've had meetings with our administrative team on talking about what's acceptable what's not acceptable but to put into our recycling um and they've communicated that out to our teachers and they've gotten
teachers on board so we're at about 20 um we're going to see how things go and as long as everything's working well I think it'll be kind of a building wide initiative um as we move forward so and then talk to us about the the Earth Day oh there it is okay so on Earth Day we're going to have a park truck event where um we all collect trash and we go and we what candy picking up it's like trick-or-treating yeah it's like trick-or-treating where you go and you have like it's like trun or treat actually it's kind of like trun or treat but that's what she said you get candy from okay look at oh well we get candy for picking up trash I guess um I uh so it's a free family event
and it's from 11: to 12 I guess on April 20th on April 20th 2025 I was about to say on a Saturday the flyer from last year but the park truck is an event that um is put on each year on Earth Day um people can um bring bring in trash or they can go around and they'll they'll collect trash throughout the parks um there's other events um it's free um they have some special presentations by the Wildcat Creek Wildlife Center they'll come in and do some conservation talk things of that nature um but just overall raising awareness um for our environment and and cleaniness of our community and so um we're super excited about that I know they're nervous um but they did a phenomenal job and they continue to do a phenomenal job
of leading um obviously by example um and creating the the the club and then investing in their Community um school and overall Community um and serving others by giving of their time and and um um helping to to make Logan sport a better place and so we are we're in awe of uh their work so far and we're very proud of them so congratulations guys good job if you want to stay you're more than welcome you don't have to if you have other things that you need to do but um so that's just one of the cool things that we have one of the things that uh we had obviously that was was unique and again Mrs gra is here because of that process is elections um we are our sixth grade social studies classes
um they kind of implemented a uh an ele an election process electoral process through their curriculum also kind of collaborating and coordinating that with um student council elections um we had a pool of about seven candidates that kind of rose to the top that were finalists for school board president um those seven finalists set up times where they came in and presented to the electors which were essentially our administrative team along with a few other teachers um and impact class groups each of those groups got a certain number of electoral votes um and then based on their presentation their I ideas and things um they were elected as the student council or student body president for this year and um Jesus um Karis is our student council president um he had probably one of the
the best political presentations I've I've witnessed um he understands how to make meaningful um campaign promises um through his uh through his initiative um some of the promises that he made to the students were things like um lowering the cost in the PBIS store by 10% which he has effectively done um he convinced the electorates to do it I I mean he's he's got to he's got to convince the Senate as well so um he also um came up with the idea for the Buddy benches for our playground that is something that on our playground specifically we don't really have an area where students that enjoy being outside they just don't get into the hustle and bustle of swinging on the swings or playing on the black top they just want to kind of sit
and relax and talk to their friends um they didn't have an area to do that so um through some um donations from some of our Community Partners we were able to secure some funds to be able to buy some of those benches um they also wanted to um have kind of a an area we have our two Courtyards in our in our building um one on the fifth and sixth grade side um have an area where possibly students could earn incentives to have their lunch in those Courtyards um we didn't have any tables at the time but again um through that initiative and through those ideas and and collaborating with a student council and and securing those funds we're able to purchase uh three of the tables that you see there on the left plus
one table that is uh ADA Compliant so it has a wheelchair access on one end as well um and you can essentially affect ly set about 30 students out there so it could be used as an outdoor learning lab um when it's not being utilized at like a lunchtime um so that's something that uh We've implemented as well and so I'm highlighting that it was kind of a fun process for them the students uh students did a great job of of doing their presentations um one of the other areas um that we have looked at this year um to try to continue to build and grow bigger Master stronger berries um is adding an advanced PE class um this is something that we did starting at the beginning of the year um it's a little
bit different in its uh uniqueness to just a general PE class um they are focused more on strength and conditioning types of activities um it's not your high school weight room setting per se um but they're you they're working on Speed and Agility uh mainly um is what they're doing and I do have a video that I want to share this is a testimonial from one of our students um and this student um came to mind because one of uh I don't know if it was a parent or a coach um they came up to me and they said that they're they're really appreciative of the fact that we have this program and it was because he came to them I believe it might have been during football season um because he does play in
our youth football league as a sixth grader and he made the comment after about a month of being in this class how he felt like he could run faster he felt like he could jump higher he felt like he had more stamina he could kind of go longer um because of the things that they were doing in this class um and again just uh some things that are a little bit more than just your general PE and so I'm going to I'm going to play a little quick video clip of him kind of talking to you about his experience hi my name is Kenny Gill and I just wanted to say how be has helped me with my sports and having more stamina and pretty much anything because before I could barely do a single
pushup I could I didn't have enough stand on it to really do anything and then after spe I it really helped me with doing my push-ups with my stamina it really helped me with a lot of the sports that I needed okay um and and Kenny is a is a young man that I know and I've known for several years just in coaching um and when you talk about a kid that that has um sometimes self-esteem um issues he he he may struggle um you can just see the confidence in him as well um the confidence in not only Sports in his Athletics but also in academics in his ability to um to be to be more focus in the classroom and so those are those are some unique things and then obviously you know
the pictures of of our cheer squad on the left um you know th doing those types of things that they're doing there um are not easy and it takes strength it takes uh coordination um to do and and we want to continue to offer that um for for our our young Barry athletes and and O open that up as an opportunity it is a class that is um it's recommended um so this year we based it off of it's sixth grade only at the at the current time um we based that off of recommendations from Mrs pomul from the fifth graders that took PE last year um who she felt um would benefit from this program um it not it isn't necessarily all athletes that are in the program but predominantly you'll find most of
the students that are in that class would be participating in some sort of athletic contest whether it's cheerleading whether it's basketball whether it's swimming tennis you know they're probably going to be in that class um and so as they continue to progress into our Junior High and those programs that are available um you know we're just trying to offer them the best competitive advantage and again um some of the things on the next slide when we when we look at oops hi my name is when we look at the strengths that we have um in the program is that we do have a dedicated like Fitness room at the Intermediate School um it's been cleared out and we can start to utilize that space in more of of that fashion um we are having an
increased number of students that are catching the wind of like here's what we're doing these are things that we want to do um and so they're coming to us and asking if they can be a part of that um we see improvements not only in their athletic abilities and their physical fitness but also um in academics um and then you know it supports the LCSC Athletics Mission um of trying to be as competitive as possible and building um well-rounded student athletes um some of the current limitations that we have we are on Limited schedule we can only offer it one period just because of our staffing we have one PE teacher um but we did have an availability for her to um do that for one class period the numbers are rather small just because
of the space that's available as well um and then the equipment which is we're working on it it's a work in progress It's it's improving we're getting um Speed and Agility type of equipment we're not talking about you know 45 lb plates and and barbells and things like that but um we are are getting some of the equipment that we want and that Mrs pisol sees as a a necessity for for that group and and we're getting um I think right now we actually have a set of um Pio boxes that are being uh sent to us from the high school possibly so um they're uh they're willing to help us out too they they see some some uh need in that program and then opportunities again expanding curricular programming options for our kids um
encouraging Health Fitness and participation um just getting kids active um and being involved in something um and then improving their self-esteem um as well and so we're seeing the benefits of that and to go along with the extracurriculars of sports um Academic Teams like math bull science bow spell bow Battle of the books and our honors choir you'll see there's the picture is our honors Choir they're actually getting ready to go to Fort Wayne this weekend um to participate in the honors choir so we're very proud of them um they tried out and those individuals six were chosen um from our IR region um to be able to represent not only Logan sport but Lis um the picture on the right is our student council um participating in the light up Logan sport parade I
can say that it was the absolute coldest night of the year um and it took about 3 Days To Tha out over Thanksgiving break but it was fun um they represented us well they loved participating in that um and being a part of that um and representing our community and then our spell bow team is pictured there at the bottom at their spellow competition I had the the pleasure of being able to assist in helping judge um and score that competition so I got to see the the spell bow uh life and action um and it was fun and they did a great job um you can see them holding uh holding their ribbons there as well and we're in the midst of robotic season um and then we also will have our drama club
um they did a presentation show last year they'll be gearing up to do that I think later on this semester um and then obviously our anti-litter club um there as well so lots of different things um on top of you know what we offer as far as Athletics um we offer every single sport um that's offered at the the Junior High in the high school level um five typically 5 through eight um the only the only group that uh doesn't necessarily participate in fifth grade at least in within the conference schools is wrestling um that's a conference rule that the fifth graders don't participate in the conference tournaments or conference meet for wrestling um but they can go to any other matches or anything that we have so um that's starting up now we have
swimming starting up all that's really kind of taken off this week um our girls basketball is is just started and so then we look forward softball they've already started open gyms and things for those kiddos and and then track and golf um we finished up and round out this season our our fall Sports had a good um showing um soccer team did really well um our volleyball um gymnastics tennis and cross countryes teams um participation numbers were were really high um there's a lot of kids um that want to participate in those Sports and so sometimes it uh it becomes like yeah we got a lot of kids we we could use some more bodies but we make do and and we go with what we have and and we try to give them um
as much support as possible so and then adding into um the the curricular side of things computer science again um we have a computer science General computer science class typically all of our students will take that um depending on their their course schedule um but one of the things that we did we started this last school year um and offered an advanced computer science in the spring um we we didn't offer it again this fall just simply because we we needed to um kind of be able to enhance the curriculum a little bit more than what they were already doing and so in order to do that we needed to find a way to um get some of the resources as far as equipment um curricular materials um and so thanks to Dr deal um
she reached out with um an opportunity to apply for a grant through the Subaru um Corporation and so Mrs Whistler and myself uh we wrote that Grant up um and sent it in out of 368 applicants that s it in for the fall uh cycle I believe um we were one of 18 that were chosen and we were chosen 18 and they have three different categories of of groups that they'll give um money too um we fell into the education side um there were groups that represented um safety um so fire departments um like the Walton volunteer fire department was one that received some um grant money um along with um like family services or mental health um Services as well and so it was really really cool and unique to be able to go
and see um where some of these um Grant dollars were going to but we're very very blessed and fortunate that they chose us um and so we've purchased um some 3D printers we've purchased a set of uh Vex robotics kits that those students will start working on more advanced coding um and some CAD design with uh 3D printing um even just this week and I've got some pictures on the next slide to show that they were uh taking apart um computers and looking at the different components of computers and then putting computers and things back together so uh they're they're already in the midst of going kind of above and beyond what just a general computer science program offers and so here in the middle just to highlight these are all of the things that
since even like last week on what Tuesday that they've already started to design and build with the 3D printer there's like a robot here um there's some um I would call them kind of fidget things um I actually have one of these in my office on the desk it's like a spiral inside of a spiral and so you kind of push it up move it down um it's just something that kind of has some texture to it um that back left corner is a is a giant um egg and inside the egg is like a small like kind of like dragon that that it moves the tail and everything moves along with it um I'm going to see if uh Jessica has the the programming or or uh stuff to be able to make um
one of those Air Raid Sirens um Mrs Nichols has one at her house and her husband made one for her 10-year-old son um and it was pretty impressive when she showed the video so I think that would be that would be kind of kind of fun to to have but um use it when the daycare kids are taking a nap I'll do that what am I doing to you now she knows um they Kim come in and take care of all those crime um but we also use some of the money there you can see here in this picture it's a little bit small but this is one of the um the tool kits that they would use to be able to take apart these computers and um these computers are either computers that are
donated to us um you know or you know we could even work alongside the IT department if there's retired computers that are going to be going to recycling or things like that to utilize those as well um obviously they're not taking apart their own computers we already have we already have enough concerns with not having enough computers so we're not promoting that um absolutely not so these are all dead computers that no longer function they don't work um but uh they were they were super into it looking at all the different components and so their their interests are are certainly peaked and these are also students that are recommended um by their teacher either from this year or from last year um they are brought down we asked them if they would be interested in
doing it we kind of explain what the class is like and then um the the parents are also kind of included in that and if they give us the go ahead and then we enroll them and and they're ready to go so um it's uh it's certainly fun and unique I was in there the other day watching kind of what they were doing they were talking about um some other stuff and I think they'll also probably uh Implement an AI component in that as well this this semester and talking about how AI works and the good the bad um parts of AI as well yeah exactly um I don't have the video but I would love to show you guys the video that Mrs Whistler came up with of herself doing all kinds of like
different athletic um things that uh I don't I don't even understand I don't understand it so I wouldn't even attempt to to be able to do it but um our kids are are certainly enjoying that and then also we added General music um this is aside from choir and band um not something that we had uh in store last year but um looking at curricular needs of our students um this is something that we decided to implement for this year again through um some generous Community uh dollars um we were able to procure an entire classroom set of ukuleles um so the students are were learning to play ukuleles um along with the um JBE drums um the bottom right hand corner of the boom whackers it kind of sounds like the Blue Man Group
um when you're in there and they're hitting the tubes um but then just also learning things about Rhythm um beat Tempo um just your general things and at least for you know our fifth and sixth graders possibly getting them interested in joining things like band or getting you know in the the mind frame of like they enjoy it so they want to join choir um as well so these students aren't necessarily in those classes um but the uh the overall and Mrs pancake is great um she was so excited um when we presented this to her as an idea of like hey would you be interested she's like absolutely um and so we worked extremely hard to to work on getting her the things that she needs um and she's doing a phenomenal job with
them and recently and I don't I don't want to take away from the be preschool but we they did um bar preschool was doing the letter M and so they did an M for me music uh day where our preschoolers a couple of their classes came over and our Intermediate School students and the preschool students did kind of like a music lesson together um and so collaborating that way as well so that was I think that was super fun they seemed really excited when they got to leave the the choir room the choir uh music room so um just a across across the building collaboration um academically word flight um this is a program Tammy McMahon um had um presented to us as an option um and so we've implemented this year um it is
a uh license-based um program so we have a specific number of licenses that we're able to use um I can say that we I think are completely um 100% utilization of the ones that are given to us um and when we look at students we we look at typically students that have been in OG uh whether it's through elementary school or even in like an OG lab last year um and they may they may not have made maybe the progress that we wanted them to make so we thought maybe this program would be um something a little bit different um they have lessons and then a lot of it is kind of self-driven but the lessons kind of uh kind of stack on top of each other I would say it's probably very similar to
the my path um that we have with math um currently as well four different zones um as students are assessed they can fall into one of these zones Zone one is probably your most at high risk um because they have very insufficient decoding um knowledge and a any type of autonomy they don't recognize vowel sounds you know very basic um reading um and so zone two would be more of your moderate zone three is that sum and zone four would be proficient and so we want to work towards you know getting kids if their zones one two to get them into that three four range range because that's just going to benefit them in the long run um one thing that I do want to point out and and sometimes I think we we try
to put CO as far in in our memory as possible um and and bury it there but our current sixth graders were first and second graders during the 19 to 21 school years and when you look at you know reading acquisition and language acquisition first and second grader kind of like those critical years um and they missed out and they lost out on a lot and so we're really really trying to do and find anything that we can um to try to help build that up um just to give you one example of a student the top data is taken from September um this is just on general knowledge and decoding um you can see extremely uh low across the board um in areas of um like single diagraph clusters um consonants vowels just basic
simple things that we would take for granted um for many of us in this room of of just understanding and knowing to the middle of the Year data which was taken right before we went to Winter Break um so same student same same stuff um you can see went from very low um to doing very very well and so um we're still in the process of collecting a lot of the middle year data again it's kind of like a self-paced um driven things so they have to get to a certain point before they can take that kind of summative assessment per se for us to get a good picture of it um but Ashley and I were looking at some of the data uh today um and so it shows that almost all of our
students are showing growth um in the areas that they're working on um some maybe a little bit smaller than others but some are showing showing some tremendous growth and so um we're super excited about that hope uh that can that program can continue um in the future going into kind of the culture of of Lis um you know I I have I I'll be I'm biased I have probably the best team in the corporation um in my corner um from Ashley to Mr Deon our our dean of students who's new um to Lis this year the dean's position um to M Mrs Nichols and Mr hul and and all of the people in our office um but they're the brainchild behind a lot of the crazy stuff that we tend to do out there if
you look up here um if you've seen Tik Tok and the Tik Tock ideas of the inflatable races where you know people get in inflatable costumes and they race each other and all kinds of stuff um I got a text message about oh probably a week or so before school started and it was just a video of the inflatable races I knew exactly where it was going and so I said let's do it like why not like go big at the beginning of the year so we did um we had everything from inflatable ninja dinosaurs to um oxal to a handstanding clown um and we even had an inflatable that malfunctioned um which was mine I don't know um I did end up wearing it the rest of the day but it is a giant
inflatable um bulldog or it looks like a pug a pug um and I do happen to have a pug at home so we wrote Frank on the collar um and so Frank made his debut and so we just had uh like our our PBIS kickoff we invited Felix to come over he uh he graced us with his presence he even participated in a in a Sprint Race Across the gym um with one of our staff members who was uh riding a parrot I believe um so that was kind of fun for the kids that we did a raffle um the kids were able to um earn prizes board games um different you know we had some sports balls and things like that that were that were offered and so PBIS has become a big part
of of what we're doing and we we started it the spring of last year we continued it on to this year here to the right hand side we do um a weekly golden spatula award um cafeteria as if you were to ever come into either an elementary or pretty much any type of education setting at lunchtime it uh it is very loud um and can be somewhat messy um but we look for and encourage students to always be doing things the right way um cleaning up after themselves if they do make a spill or a mess um trying to keep the noise level levels down to a minimum and so um our cafeteria uh Advent team will go around and they'll kind of keep an eye on certain tables and groups and people throughout the
week and whoever they felt like had done the best job of of following our expectations the cafeteria will get the golden spatula well they'll get to eat out and this is kind of in our um stem small group area there um and so as we get warmer um these students will have an opportunity to maybe eat L lunch out in that Courtyard area as well and so um just got pictures of them holding up the golden spatula um as they they won the award we usually pick two tables um per week um to do that so um and then other uh PB we actually did our own staff School climate survey um just so you guys are are aware this is what the results were um and so one of the areas that we saw
was um staff feeling connected to the teachers at their school and um it's real you know especially when you get into um School environments where you might have departmentalized you have departments you have teams right you're you work really close with your team but you may not know who a lot of the other people are in the building because it's hard to get out and get around and to to see everybody um one of the things we promote is our staff staff and teachers going and watching other teachers um watching them teach picking up on Little Things um but we also just wanted to kind of um bring everybody together in fun ways and so um we do Fooda palooza which is essentially like the entire month of December before break um we have a
calendar and and different groups will bring in food um we encourage everybody to gather in the the lounge um and share and and camaraderie there um the woot woot wagon which is essentially a cart that we decorated and Jazz up and it's got all kinds of goodies um we did a staff survey on all their favorite things um food Snack drink and we go out and we get it and we put it on the wagon and we just show up and Andy Nicholls found or was it Andy found the an old old metal train whistle and I had to go around and blow that thing and like walk into classrooms and the teachers were like kids were like yes snacks were like not for you and they're like really like and they were so excited
um and then just you know being very intentional in the use of our PD time um making sure that we're kind of spreading people out if they're a part of different committees and subgroups and things like that where they have time to collaborate with one another um whether it's in their team whether it's in their content um and then just another across other building initiatives as well and then we did the team holiday card competition some of you may have seen um we did have a vote at our winter family night and I'm very disappointed that the staff one did not win um it was our essential and practical skills that people voted for which was the best one and they were like the elves on the shelf up on the top of their stockings
um and so it was just a fun way for our staff to you know kind of come up with some silly and creative things we put it on our TV displays and the kids could walk around and see them and our families came in um during family night as well so and then our winter family night just to kind of wrap things up um started it last year it was something that uh our staff looks forward to um getting volunteers families come in we partner with the Barry preschool um to do that and so lots of participation um I mean we played bingo until the last second of the last hour um and it was fast and furious and and people went away and they had a lot of fun there were a lot of
games and a lot of different activities um all across the build building and so we had hallway races around cones we had um you know hitting snowballs and trying to knock over cups um shooting marshmallows uh marshmallow Shooters um snow Shooters marshmallows um and then just uh different arts and crafts um areas as well and then you may be able to see some of the decorations um students um decorated our hallways um our stem and our art classes kind of did a collaboration where the stem kids used cardboard from all different shapes and sizes some of them built big huge cardboard houses and some of them built you know trees and cut out grinches and things like that and we kind of decorated the hallways and and U had a photo booth opportunity for him
as well uh Mrs starky was able to come um and see that and that was that was awesome but that essentially it so I will stop there yeah anybody have any questions for all of that nice job mil's not here so I mean I guess I got off easy tonight right you to go broadcast to make a basketball game oh I got you and Brad had to go to par night senior night for uh swimming it's too early well again we we certainly appreciate you guys um taking the time to to hear us tonight and thank you starky and the board and and everybody for all you guys do for our school and our kids so make sure you thank the group that yeah absolutely off here and our our parents and our kiddos um
they're the center of everything so they're the ones that are doing all the leg work so all right thank you alrighty now we go on to the exciting action items first one is the consideration of recommendation to approve memoranda of understanding regarding the reunification site which is the localport Intermediate School to the cast County Forge Fairgrounds this is very similar to what we've done with everybody else just yeah the why the LIF gate um I can't think of all of them on top of my head right now but assume every schol Ary God forbid we have has a place yes we are Colombia we are finalizing so okay motion to approve I'll second that any further discussion all those in favor signify by sign of I I I all those oppos same sign motion passes
next is the consideration to of recommendation to award School Bus bids for 2025 anything new Mr GCT so yeah you've got a letter in your packet from Mr Moss we participated in the Central Indiana Educational Service Center uh bid program which allows us to keep a little bit better competitive pricing all the schools that participate help drive down the price of some and for this calendar year we're looking to uh purchase three school buses and U you've got a a little bit of $467,000 and some change that equates to about 155,00 000 per bus discount price dang got discount discount price the other bids were U let's just share that information how about about that $17,000 and $162,000 so that's where bids came in at this year all right make a motion we accept the
uh suggest or the recommendation on the bus bids is there a second second any further discussion all those in favor signify by sign of i i i motion passes next is the consideration to exec members resignation from the board of school trustees and move forward with the process outlined by the Indiana Law and Bard policy find a replacement this is Mr McLure uh he was with us for 16 years and we thank him for his his service he turned in his resignation January 1 so we've got till the end of the month the fin a new board member we are in the process and have three candidates so far that have shown interest so we will be interviewing them soon and hopefully get a new candidate should have someone here filling that chair at the
by the next uh next meeting um just just for clarity he he's technically resigning but he he he did not run another term no one ran against him in the IND law is if no one runs against you you therefore have to resign not bailing on he has to resign so he can fill the spot nobody ran against him so uh all right so uh I'll make a motion to accept his resignation is there a second I'll second any further discussion all those in favor signify by sign of I I all those o same sign motion passes uh this is the first reading I love these uh first reading consider to approve the following policy changes number 0164 01644 0165 017 172 2313 .01 1220 2230 1617 2623 3217 3220 .02 4217 5410 5460 5772
0837217 754 0.03 and 8400 and I know normally mil mil has researched these and would have had some comments but he's not here so just move ahead I'll make a motion accept I guess this is just first reading so if anybody wants to review them they can they're more than happy to come up here Andra yes okay the nth one [Laughter] again all right moving on to Department comments uh Mr correct there's a couple notes um items for your benefit tonight uh we're wrapping up the 2024 uh bookwork for the calendar year and uh we'll be submitting that to the state over the next week or two and uh you'll have a a summary recap to you sometime this week on those numbers um secondly the calendar committee will be preparing a proposed budget for
the 27 school year later this month and we'll hope to bring you a recommendation for your consideration at the February meeting um with the 25 2025 legislative session underway we'll be closely monitoring bills that may influence School business and uh try to keep you guys AB breast of the situation so that uh any inputs you guys can help us with as far as legislative goes uh we'll keep you informed um additionally and last uh this Friday I have a meeting with Mr Bic U approaching that time of year where we're looking at property liability and workers comp insurance coverage and premiums so be discussing that this Friday and uh keep the board up to date all in that meting outside of questions you may have that's my report for tonight questions thank you all right
technology report Mr fall so the security Grant is coming along nicely we just have two buildings left fair viiew and Franklin are the ones that are left for the outside cameras and then the high school's access control system should be wrapping up here in the next couple weeks as well uh we also apply for an additional security grant that is 100% funded uh we applied for that for Landis Junior High in Columbia um they're each $200,000 a piece and then we'll find out about that in late April or May and then Mr do you want me to recap Powers so uh January 7th we received uh word from power school that there was a data breach that occurred um there using crowd strike and the FBI was also notified about that um they're still working
on who um the bad actor was on that um we know of at least 54 schools that were affected and we happen to have been one of them um it was across the country it wasn't just Indiana so there were several schools uh the data was compromised was student and teacher data um we have Assurance from power school that the data was deleted and was not leaked on the dark web so they are going to be monitoring that and providing an updated um after action report at the end of January so that we will get a copy of that information um so at this time that's as much as we know um the type of breach that occurred has been identified and has been fixed so that it cannot occur again the breach happened because
there was a um a portal that power school uses that was public facing that the tech support team used and it was not um fully secured so that has now been secured behind a firewall and behind the VPN so it's no longer open to the public so that's been fixed so um if you have any questions I'd be happy to answer those for you if I can no it's not here he has all the tech registration go through goes through Power School doesn't it does like all those questions would be potentially no data no no there's only certain data points within um what we call the student and teacher table um demographics and Bell schedules for the kids and um in in some instances grades but that was a very low-level um data point that
wasn't really looked at it's mostly just demographics unfortunately and in some cases Social Security numbers world we live in all right thank you and I say the live broadcasting or whatever that's when's that going to start we're testing tonight um state law requires us to start in July okay we'll get up at the beat there it's kind of Wonder because the city city and county county like the schools get off all a sudden we got a a notice like there we go all right thank you uh curricul report Mrs Rose Dr deal thank you um so just a couple of things next week about 20 staff members will be heading to Lafayette for the reading textbook Caravan um this will kick off our discussions about textbook adoption so um we'll be adopting a new reading
program in K to 6 um this is probably the most important adoption that I will ever see um it's a very big deal and so we'll start that process after next week um speaking of reading um Mrs starky Dr deal and I have met with the three elementaries over the last week um talking about uh reading data um and so one of the things that the elementaries are doing and they've gotten really good at is drilling down in specific pieces of data down to specific students they can see where each student is and from that okay how do we help these students get from point A to point B um that's part of our prep for I um I will be here in about seven weeks so this is we're in that point where we're
giving one last big push to get our students from here to there um and so hopefully we'll have some success in that that's it all right first Mrs gra welcome we miss you in the classroom but I'm glad that you're serving in this capacity if you want to do like a section of finite that's right just okay um we have eighth grade transition night on Wednesday and we have sixth grade transition night on Thursday something exciting from Logan sport High School is that we have a junor junor Olivia Gibson who plays second in the regional tournament for girls wrestling and we'll be going to State and something that La just started this year is the state sendoff so at 3:00 on Thursday all the students go in the hallway they walk her through and it's
the band is there it's something it's a really cool new tradition so she'll be sent off that way um from the junior high they are working hard they are doing I learn checkpoints this week and for all of our schools we have weda either starting today or it's right around the corner we love a good test and um we have four like Mr Lundy said about students going to the honors choir there are four junior high students who are also going to the All State honors choir so pretty exciting for them um with also something that Mr storm mentioned is that had a teacher email him a math teacher and it was Beth Smith basically talking about how with these iearn checkpoints you know they're making a big deal out of them because they want
the students to do as well as possible but she just said that they were doing a review packet there were two students who have basically not participated the whole year and all of a sudden they came back from break and something clicked and at one point he the um that Smith had to tell one student that she was going to take his mic away and he started laughing about it and it said that the other student basically she has been fighting her all semester trying to keep her awake and whatnot and they were just totally engaged and this seventh grade regular class has been continuously outdoing even her honors in her academic sections in terms of just preparation so that was that was a big win for them uh speaking of big win the career
center was awarded the Perkins Reserve grant for $110,000 so what that allows them to do is to complete the smart manufacturing pathway which they just started this year and then another good note in terms of PTEC I was just looking at the data today our current chapter ones which are freshmen they came in with a 2.1 average GPA and after semester 1 they ended with a 3.0 average so that's even higher than our first round in terms of improvements so super proud of them that's it questions comments fantastic thank you superintendent comments Mrs sty just a couple things one tonight we accepted Mrs Wolf's retirement letter um so thank you um she's not like she's leaving now so she'll be around for a while we also accepted Peggy Scott resignation retir she'll be back she'll
be back see she comes back a she'll be back sheing us um that's just kind of the running joke um and then we are going to be meeting again I don't remember when the date is to talk about summer school um for those of you who don't know Summer School uh underwent a big change after we did summer school and when we got our funding notification in November we found out that the state only fully funded what we did for remediation for third graders and got about was it 60 60 60% funding for everything else we didn't know that was happening so um it used to be anything that you offered at the high school level that led to credit which Le leads to graduation would be funded um that's not the case anymore so
anyway we're kind of dropping back and punting again if you will to try and figure out strategically what's it what's it really going to look like like for us um so I have enjoyed takes me back to my curriculum days doing the data meetings in the elementary schools I'm like ready to roll up my sleeves and like okay let's go let's do this and this and this so it's been kind of very interesting there's a lot of stress right now in the elementaries because if you don't remember if you don't pass I read this is the Year this is the cohort year if you don't pass you get retained automatically so for us uh as long as you've been in the United States for two years or more so anyway um many all of the
elementaries right now are doing what they what most of them refer to as I read boot camp so it's amazing if you want to talk about data go talk to an elementary teacher they will talk to you about every single kid and where they're at in every single area it's it's very interesting and it's very hard work so anyway shout out to to uh all of them for for their hard work there and as I've gone on to say and they're going to hear me say this more and more this is not a third grade problem it's like the high school graduation rate is not a lowp high school problem this is an issue for all of us to work on so anyway we'll get there that's all I have just pray for no extreme
wind chills this week because you know it never fails when we start weed testing it gets really cold and it snows so all right all right now's the time for our second chance of public comments no takers All Right Moving On board member comments Mrs gra uh I just want to say thank you to everybody for being so welcoming and I know enjoyed my first meeting and Mr Lundy and your staff enjoyed your presentation thank you very much yeah and I guess I also just want to say I do plan to try to visit every school and and meet all the teachers and the administrators and find out what's going on in the corporation because there's quite a few buildings I hav never been into so I'm looking forward to that Mr Cy congratulations to
Mrs wolf for leading the elementary of 850 kids that's it's a very big task and the staff so think how many years total 26 26 congratulations enjoy your what you're going to do retirement sleep on um this month we have a process now that Dave has resigned um that we'll be having some public meetings and we have three candidates that have shown interest and we go through an interview process and and then we select them so that'll all happen in the next 10 to 12 days so that's okay uh congratulations again and to Becky gr we're ecstatic to have her here with us um she brings a well she brings a a new A New Perspective for the board having been a teacher here at logp and Pioneer and also dealt with some of the
Union stuff there and that kind of stuff um it allows that to to be um it just it just gives a different a different set of eyes that we've had so I I'm we're glad to have you and welcome welcome you aboard um that's all I've got now it's time for board signatures start to
