Let's call the meeting to order. Beth, can you please call the role? >> Mr. Bod >> here. >> Mrs. Gart here. >> Mr. Gay >> here. >> Mrs. Matney >> here. And Miss Wasman. >> Before I say here, I want to say a happy belated birthday to Annie Beth Collier and myself. And a soon to be happy birthday to Miss Haley Head here. >> Wow. >> Happy birthday. >> Everybody. >> Well, today is my wife's birthday. >> Happy happy birthday Debbie called. Most importantly, thank you for being here. Biggest gift I could give her is to not be home. [laughter] >> I'm kidding. I'm kidding. >> No, you're not. >> Happy birthday, everybody. Say, pledge of >> allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for it stands. One
nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. Okay, we've got uh minutes from our last meeting to approve. Is there a motion? >> So moved. >> Second. >> Okay, any discussion? Hearing none. Beth, you call the role. >> Mr. Bod, >> I. >> Mrs. Gart, >> I. >> Mr. Duce. >> Hi. >> Mrs. Matney. >> Hi. >> And Miss Wasman. >> I. >> Okay. Recognition of guests and hearing of the public. Is there anyone who would like to speak before the board? [snorts] Okay. Uh, moving on then we have a presentation from athletics, Mr. Logan Dunn, our athletic director. Bless you. >> Thank you. >> Well, thank you for letting me come in here and talk. Um, this has been a very exciting fall season and really since April when I got the
job, I've been full force in trying to make this athletic department something that everybody in the community could be really proud of. uh first things that I looked at when I got the job is follow policies and procedures and where there's not policies and procedures make a policy and procedure that you can follow. So one of the first things we did this summer was look at the athletic handbook and see where there were gaps. A gap could be as simple as how we evaluate coaches to how do I get a varsity letter to what do I get a varsity letter um if I receive a varsity letter for a second sport. to make sure all that information was in the handbook that could go to. Then it was looking at the handbook and also the
website. So the website was how do we communicate and highlight our student athlete to provide information such as schedules uh to this all stakeholders. Then it was the athletic department app. Uh so the website syncs directly to the app. So it's very hard when I get questions from parents or community members that say, "Hey, when is a softball game?" name and I said, "Oh, just pull out your phone, go to the website, click on the URL." Like, it's a very complicated process and it's not user friendly on your phone. So, the app syncs everything from the website directly to your phone. And that's the base of what it does. And then the cool thing is it uses geo fencing to incentivize our students to attend games and then they get points. when they attend, they
check in and then with those points, they can earn rewards such as apparel or we partner with local sponsors that they were able to get gift cards. Then the coaching evaluation procedure. So, it's really that is a very important procedure. When I talked to all of our coaches here in the summer, it was really finding where is the gap that we're missing and really uh the gap was between high school and middle school. So, try to streamline that process. So, our high school varsity coaches were directly involved with middle school from hiring to what the practices look like to techniques that were being taught because those are the students that you're going to be using at the high school level to make you more successful. Uh then it was really looking at equipment and uniform.
How do we order? Where do we order? Um and when do we do that? There wasn't really a streamlined process. You had some coaches that were using a a rep and some were using Amazon and it was kind of all over the place. uh partnering with BSN with Mr. Cop, Mr. Belulk. That's one of the first things I talked about was there's certain things that I need uh to be successful. One of those is a partnership with BSN and I brought a rep that I've worked with in previous years. So Jared has already formed relationships with a lot of our coaches from as simple as wrestling, ordering headsets, head gear to uniforms. So we ordered boys and girls soccer uniforms at the high school level uh this fall. And with those uniforms, they were late.
So there a lot of complaints with that, but was really because there was no process and we're trying to work with that process. Uh so that would not happen again. Then really looking at coaching and parent meeting format. Uh so I've always been used to we have one OSA parent meeting night where I lead a presentation and then we do breakout sessions. Well, that was new and I got a lot of positive feedback on that as well. And then club sport procedure. Uh so I had a club sport reach out like rout and I got the job. They talked about boys volleyball. Uh so we did not have a procedure. So it's kind of looking at stakeholders and forming a policy that's going to work uh that we can properly communicate. Then working with Miss
Feast I said what we were what we will do this fall is we are going to lean into student experience. Uh we want to highlight our students. This isn't student athlete experience. This is student experience. Uh so one of the first things that we did was look at athlete of the month. How do we highlight certain athletes and then partner with a local sponsor. So, the rail sponsored all of our signage and a gift card to give to our student athletes that were athlete of the month. Then tailgate events. So, it was really going away from I don't want to come in and just look like, oh, that individual played college football and just thinks about football. No, it was I care about every sport, male and female. So, it's creating energy and buzz for
those different events. So, uh partnering with a DJ that came in was a boy soccer game, girls soccer game, and then a football game. the touchscreen display if you not had a chance in the high school comments. If you look at what that looks like and we're not only highlighting the past, we're highlighting the present, too. So, we took all the highlights from Huddle and you can click on that and actually see the highlights from all the events that we had this fall. Uh, then social media. So, how do we highlight our student athletes and highlight our coaches achievements and how do we It's not just coming from the athletic department. It's coming from all of our coaches or their admin. Uh so that's really using Gipper allows you to create professional content and hopefully
you see the social media and would see how we utilize that to a clapout tradition. Our girls cross country team made the state. So it's really working with how do we highlight that team and how highlight every team that when you get to the state level it means something we all should be proud of. So it's not just the high school, it is the entire building. So working with administration and working with the marching band to come together to highlight their student athletes and simple things as a push-up board. I know it's kind of if you we're at a football game um you know working with the wood shop and say hey I need a push-up board what I said a push-up board that we can have so when we we score our students are
engaged and they do push-ups and everyone counts. Then you saw Tatum Lusher the first game repping out 14 push-ups that created energy uh that was different than other games that would go the other way. Uh to the tunnel that we had uh to the meet the team events. So collaborating and having unity between boys and girls soccer that was important. So we had a meet the team. It was a fundraising event to then purchase uniform kits to our wait room schedule. So working with nationwide and say I don't just want a open format. I want specific sports specific and also gender specific. So I want a just a female and also just a male time. So working with them to do that and then having a signing day. So we just had our first signing
day today uh with Macy 2 and Tatum Lusher. And part of that sign day is make it unique. So one of the unique things that we did is they get a pen. It says Bobcats at the next level. So I talk about how this pen is more than a pen. When they see this pen, they're going to remember the commitment that they made in front of their peers and the entire school. So, I kind of put pictures there like that's my son the bottom left getting a his face painted at one of the token events. So, you collaborating with local sponsors. Uh, so with the sponsorship program, it was very just your static advertisement that you would see in the gym and you would see on the scoreboards. Uh, so really elaborating what that sponsorship
program looks like. So, it's not it's also digital, it's on social media, it's on our website, it's through the air using Neptune. Uh so to date we've raised over $140,000 worth of contracts that would be greatly enhance the student experience also would be able to enhance the stadium project that we have coming up. So some facility updates. One of the ones things that when I got here I just wanted proper signage. One of the tests from a branding perspective no matter where you are in a building if you know you're at Grand View Heights not Buckeye Valley or anybody else. Uh so whether what that's our locker rooms look like. So the bottom left picture there when I went to the girls locker room it was just a bunch of white walls. So collaborating with
our volleyball and our basketball coach and saying what are the things that you would like to see in your locker room. So a whiteboard, a conference standing board and they have three words that they went around [clears throat] that was professionally done to the gym entrance so people actually know where to go for the high school gym. And one of the things Jim Buffer asked me to do is can you help me with the storage solution that we have in the high school gym. Uh so that is what it looked like prior on your left and on the right it is a custom that our coaches can hang up their uniforms not just uniforms anything that they would want under lock and key that is extremely uh professional and upgrade to collaborating with the architects
on this project. Uh, I've been fortunate in my career. This is my third stadium renovation last five years. So, I've learned different things on the step of the way and and part of that is as simple as what is a locker room and how does that locker room function uh for every sport. Uh, so one of the things you look at the picture there of the current renderings of the stadium locker room is the lockers themselves. Um, I've utilized a company called Athletic Edge that create lockers that you can sit in and it's a meeting room with your whiteboard and your TV above it. So, there's no need to have a separate space. Your locker room is your meeting space. So, it's going to be extremely functional. It's going to be something that not only
the athletic department is proud of, but everybody uh that is in this community and everyone that's been here, they're going to be extremely proud of what that looks like. Fall recap. We had 357 games at the middle school and high school level this fall. I asked Miss Feast how many she thought. She said 82. >> So she was off a little bit. >> She attended. [laughter] >> All conference student athletes. Uh I represent them on the next page, but every sport we had student athletes that were all conference. A couple highlights. The girls cross country team. Uh they won the CBL, they won the district, and they won the region. They finished fifth in the state and Julie Albright finished or 20th in the state and she broke the school record. Girls soccer won the
CBL and was district runner up. Macy 2 was player of the year and then football made the state playoffs. What's next? The winter season. Um [clears throat] all schedules are available online. The winter season we have swimming, wrestling, and basketball. Uh cheerleading. There's a lot of bowling uh that it doesn't stop. So that 357 just is going to roll right into the winners, just different sports. And then planning for the spring. So we're already looking at track meets and how we can host those track meets and how we can highlight our our track student athletes and to fill open coaching positions. We currently have a couple assistant coaching positions. Uh but we also have a position at the varsity volleyball. And then discussing the CBL expansion. Um, so my push is to expand the CBL
to make two divisions and to make it better for Graham Heights in the entire league based on enrollment. That's my presentation. Open up to questions. You mentioned a a club like a procedure for vetting sort of club sports and on our agenda tonight we have the volleyball program. Do you feel like the procedure the boys volleyball >> Oh, sorry. And girls wrestling. And oh, is there a girls wrestling club on there as well? >> We're just proud. >> Yeah, >> there are two clubs. Do you feel like the procedure that you used for those two programs like moving forward will kind of uh be utilized in the future? >> Yes. So to have a procedure, the worst thing to do is not have anything. Yeah. And kind of accept everybody and not have a fallback
and what that looks like. Uh so a only difference would be that financially the athletic department or the school would not be responsible for it but from facility to how we highlight uh would all be the same. Um and then they have to prove that they have enough numbers within three years and then within those three years and then they could present it to the board of education to be school sponsored. >> Okay. And just so that I kind of know the procedure, if it's showing up on our agenda, can I assume that that means it's like endorsed by you? >> Yes. >> Okay. >> So, yeah, they work through me uh to get them to this point. Yeah. >> And then really I've worked with with Look at Boys Volleyball. Yeah. Like that is
a brand new startup. So, what does that look like from social media, ordering supplies, fundraising? I've had numerous meetings with that. What does it look like for to get coaching requirements done? Uh so even if it's a club sport, we are directly involved with helping that club to be successful. >> Great. Thanks. >> Well, along that line though, I was curious just to get ahead of our agenda, but because you're in front of us that it said the boys volleyball I've heard a lot about and then girls wrestling, that was a new that was new to me. I know we've had girls wrestling for years. Um how will the structure making girls wrestling a club sport differ from what our present state is? So they would still be a school sponsored as in from a
highlight from the athletic department. The only thing would be that from a financial aspect it would not be financially sponsored from the school. Uh the reason why so girls wrestling uh last year was OSAA sponsored. Um but previous years it was a combined boys and girls sport. So it was co-ed. So it' be the same thing with boys volleyball or if you have flag football to have a procedure you can fall back on to ensure that it's equal for every sport is something that I had discussions with administration about girls wrestling specifically. That's kind of a sticking point of is it school sponsored or is it does it go fit in the club level. Uh we chose club because we want the interest to be there that it is a longlasting program and longlasting success
for the girls. So girls who have been wrestling and continue to wrestle for them in practice it doesn't really look much different to them. >> It would not look different at all. >> All right. And then if by chance that a a girls wrestling club didn't work out, it would revert to the way it always had been. I mean I mean girls would not if if girls club wrestling, you know, if a couple years down the road we decide not to continue with that, girls would still be allowed to wrestle in the way they always had. >> Correct. So, you're really looking at from a financial standpoint or a coach that would be specifically for girls wrestling, >> right? Okay. Thanks. >> Um, what was your response rate on the surveys since they were anonymous
in the fall? >> Depends on the sport. I would say there are certain sports that have a higher percentage rate around 50% is what you would typically look for. Okay. >> Um, in some sports they were lower than that. Some sports they're higher than that. But it's really then with those responses, you're looking at common trends. No matter if there was three or if there was 10, the three that did respond, okay, what are they saying together that I can utilize that for the evaluation process? >> Wii with the surveys. Um, did the parent one go out? >> It did. >> Was that would that have been high school and middle school or just high school? >> Just high school. >> Okay. >> That's on me. Um, I was like I didn't fill mine out.
Um, and then there is a sport. I think there's only two sports in the fall that um that are gendered like boys soccer, girls soccer, boys cross country, girls cross country. Those went out as four different surveys, not two. >> Those would have been out the same survey. So if it was cross country, it's the same coach, >> right? But how do you differentiate between the girls experience, the boys experience like the four? I understand there's the same coach with the cross country. >> So that's kind of a quandry, but with those four, how do you differentiate the >> the current? >> Yeah, the current format I did not differentiate. It's really looking at common trends and I would see like >> I gota >> looking at the data would help me. I just I
didn't um because I remember I believe it was last year we weren't sure if it was and it came up through soccer like and as it turned out there was only soccer and cross country were the only ones because it volleyball is girls golf is I think only boys >> stuff like that. >> So it would have been cross country would have been the only one that theoretically would have been >> Yeah. And if it um I would be curious if it can be because it's done for this year. It's not a big deal, but just how the experience went because there's different I know cross country is the same coach but different coaches. Just how did it go? Um with you being new to this job sometimes you inherit things. Um and this is
something that I know has I have heard about. Um then in the spring there were athletic scholarships and there appeared to be um not they didn't how scholarships c happened. It came from boosters. Sometimes there were memorials xyz that happened in the history of it. This is new to you but I do believe that there was it was noted that there was a lack of female athlete scholarships. So my question to you and because they come about through various ways like it's not always you setting it. Um like I said there's memorials. If someone were to want to create a scholarship I inherit money Lord willing I want to create this is can I set up a scholarship or could someone out there is there an opportunity? >> Yes. Uh so we would refer you
to the Bobcat boosters. >> Okay. >> And also the Columbus Foundation. Okay. >> Uh to go obviously with the finances. That's the major part. And then it's really looking at okay the criteria and what that scholarship looks like. >> But anybody would have the opportunity whether it be boys or girls to have >> a scholarship, >> right? Because there like when we were looking at it there some of them were memorials and I'm like, you know, that's it. It's just it's how it happened. And then there's various who's got a booster, who doesn't, but that would be the process is to reach out to you or to one of the entities. >> I could Okay. >> refer them to anywhere that they would need to go as well. >> Okay. So, if someone was interested,
they just reach out to you and you kind of point them in the right direction. >> And me and Beth, we're going to work on a document that kind of the Q&A, the same thing with the club sports. So, follow the process is kind of we need to that's a gap. So, we would create the process and make sure that that's there to go back and refer to. >> I do appreciate a nice FAQ. [clears throat] >> Yeah, >> I do. Um, just putting it out there because it's one it was one of those like once someone realized it, you're like, huh, it's interesting, but then it's once you notice it, how do you remedy it? So, thank you for that. >> You're welcome. >> I'm done with my questions. You want to go? >>
I >> No, go ahead. Okay. Um so Logan, thank you for um the review and I think it' be really helpful for you just to you know see what you'd come in and had some fresh eyes look at you know the different list which is quite comprehensive. So I really appreciate that. Um I did want to ask you to see if you had an opportunity to look at kind of the interface between athletics and academics. So the policies and procedures around which I think is great about athletics for some kids. It's like the best motivation for kids to stay eligible and kind of keeps them on the right path. Um among other things but um so really the question is did you have a chance to review that see what we're doing? See if there's
any ideas that you had from your experience to do anything different and maybe how you're working with the rest of the staff to to make sure that's a good interface. So reviewing it and obviously being at other schools, Grand View Heights has a very high standard of what they [clears throat] expect of our student athletes. So one of those is the weekly grade checks like that. I've never had that. Uh expectation prior is like obviously we want you to excel in the classroom and also attendance. Uh so there's I've been at schools where it was half day. Uh it is not it is first period here that you need to make sure that you're here to participate not only in games but in practice too. Uh, so I've not reviewed anything that I would say
needs to be enhanced. I think we do have a very high standard of what we expect for our student athletes here and prioritize academics. >> I'd hear that. I mean, I think um I I really like that we have really a um uh you know, support for the whole child here that [clears throat] you know, all facets of them that they work together. So, um I'm a big fan, you know, it's been really meaningful to me like when you uh see the seniors and they talk about what was meaningful to them and the person that most made a difference to them. Just the number of kids that talk about extracurriculars, you know, whether it's sports or band or um theater, you know, there's a lot of different things, but that's so much part of the
experience. So, I'm glad you know you're thinking about integrating um athletics with the rest of the school, >> but just the experience of how many students are also in the marching band. Uh I've not had that before. Uh so, even seeing that like that is unique of Grand View Heights that I've really been able to appreciate because when you I I talked to them yesterday about pep band for the winter and how it's a homec court advantage if you're there and creating the triangle. triangle is the pet band, the cheerleaders in the student section. Uh, so really talking about we're talking about 40 to 50 students in the pet band. I was lucky to have like 15 or 20. >> I have one suggestion. >> Name the Bobcat. >> Bigger Bobcat. >> I have heard
people ask like newer people to the area have been like, "So, what's your mascot's name?" I'm like, "Oh, >> there's no name. There's like that." >> It doesn't >> I'll work on that. I veto that >> swinger. It's not just Yeah. the band, the cheerleaders, the student section, and the mascot. >> Bobcat. Bobcat. Oh, that's actually a good That's a good >> a branding opportunity. Just saying. >> I have a quick question back to Emil um Molly's question about uh boosters. Would it be the school's role to do like a fundraising 101? Because for those sports that don't have boosters, it can be intimidating to know like where to start. And I asked that because it's the school that does the um the what's the what's the that you do where like the rules >>
The booster training. >> Officer training. >> Thank you. Um so would that be the school's role or would that be a Bobcat booster question? So I I can just speak on what I've seen is that the training that Beth offered and then I put that training on our website too. >> So that's where I would start out first they can contact me if someone was interested. Um I would just say is I've always leaned in having one executive booster club. I just think that's the most transparent and equitable >> and that's kind of who I tie myself to as well. I think when you have a lot of different booster clubs, it's hard uh to have that same transparency and equitability and also um structure is what like I going to the Bobcat boosters here
after this meeting and to seeing what that group does and how unified they are and their mission is not just one specific sport. It's all of our sports, not just sports, it's all of our students. Um so that's something that I would always lean into is create one executive booster club instead of in a lot of these sub booster clubs. Um, but I know that that's a challenge too because we have parents that are interested in just that one specific sport. >> But I think the more transparent, equitable you can be, having under one umbrella, it truly helps you. >> So Katie, I um so I'm happy to help any um group that is interested in, you know, has questions and and I periodically get calls from Good. Okay. >> from groups that that have
fundraising questions and I'm always happy to help. So, um, between the two of us, we we could definitely support whatever, um, questions and and, um, things that come up. So, >> thank you. >> It was a while ago that they did all the like bylaws and that's Do you remember that? >> Like every single booster group came and presented. >> We invited them all in one year to kind of give us a a rundown of what's a lot of their group >> made real strides >> in the last few years. you've inherited not that problem. >> Um, thank you for thank you for what you've done and it's been I'm going from a middle school athlete to a high school athlete. So, there's that. But, it's been interesting to see how the athletic department has
changed with your leadership. And it's um I know from my own experience as a parent, my child's like, "Yes, Mr. Dunn has this." Like they're learning to get out of the nest and a athletics helps them a lot and they feel um they do feel comfortable with you. Hopefully my child not too comfortable, but um it's interesting to see how like a new era, lack of a better term, that has happened with athletics and Um, I want to say a welcome change. So, keep on keeping on. >> Thank you. >> Yeah. Piggybacking off of that, I've spoken with several parents that have met with you individually, speaking with students. I've met with you individually. You've been here a semester. >> Holy smokes. >> It super impressive. Great job. Thank you. Yeah. And I was I
was a third grade teacher before. I wasn't the best teacher, but I could form relationships. I think that's why I was a good teacher. It's the same thing as being an athletic director. It's the relationships that you form allow you to be a good athletic director and I truly believe that. So, relationships that you form with the student athletes allow you to be successful. So, it's been a pleasure. >> Um, middle school, we have a new middle school athletic director also, and I've met her. She's great. Um, sometimes I still struggle internally to understand like the differentiation of responsibilities between middle school athletic director and yourself. Um, but you know, [clears throat] under our previous athletic director, there was a lot of questions that arose with middle school athletics and there was one of the
answers was to form this middle school parent advisory group. Does that does that still exist? Is that still a thing? >> I have not continued that. No. >> All right. >> I think just the structure when I talked about the varsity coaching meetings that I had, >> it was quickly apparent that there was a separation in high school and middle school and I truly believe some of that was because of this because of the structure. So to streamline the process of having me really overlook the high school and middle school and to tie our varsity coaches into our middle school more allowed for greater continuity and a better experience. >> So I don't necessarily think that the need of that is the same as maybe it was prior. Yeah. >> Not that their voices don't
matter, but >> of course >> um I've not received the feedback that that's something that is being asked to continue at this point. No, I was just curious and I don't my question doesn't come from a place of like wanting to come back or anything. I just was literally curious because I didn't know. Um and I will say like I mean kid involved in multiple different sports. You can see I think that everyone is moving in the right direction of having that continuum that you speak of. Some are further along than others and when it is there it is fantastic. like you really do notice a difference in the way the whole sport is run whenever it's like from the varsity coach down working with all of them. >> Even if we just look at
basketball, we're >> 30 feet away from each other. Like we should have >> our varsity coaches should be in middle school. >> The students should know and have relationships with them prior to them leaving middle school. >> And I think like you know I have a seventh grader and they feel included. they feel like more of a part of the whole program when the varsity coach shows an interest in what they're doing in seventh grade. Makes them want to continue and keep doing doing well. So, yeah, it's great. I appreciate your leadership. >> Thank you. >> Any other questions? >> Thank you for your time. >> Thank you. Thank you, Logan. >> Um, is there any comments, questions about building and department reports? >> You are up, Mr. Cole. So, I'm going to highlight a
a few things. I'm not going to read all of this, but first and [clears throat] foremost, coming out of Stevenson Elementary, nine Stevenson Elementary art students had their artwork selected for the growing gallery at Nationwide Children's Hospital, combining their love of art with service to patients. At Larsson Middle School, eighth graders participated in their annual Washington DC trip, exploring historical and cultural landmarks that complement their social studies curriculum and deepen their understanding of civic engagement and national history. >> They were there during the shutdown. Oh, yes. Shut down. >> Correct. >> Oh, that stinks. No [clears throat] museums >> out of the high school. Um, Bark hosted an evening screening of the Lincoln school story documentary and discussion connecting history, art, and dialogue across the ages. Uh, freshman and sophomores attended We Are STEM to
explore high growth careers in healthcare and learn about college pathways through Columbus State. districtwide. I want to just spotlight, I know I've shared this internally in my weekly communications, but Grand View Heights High School's renovation and Larsson Middle School's new build was one of, I will say, uh, four or five districts or buildings selected as part of an international ed spaces architectural construction um, uh, tour. And we probably gave in or around 150 to 200 uh people tours of our facilities. And uh I gave two of those tours myself and the feedback that we received was excellent. And then just related uh I had the honor of also presenting with Amy Ecman uh one of the architects with Perkins and Will and Jay Tadina our CMR on the last project at this same conference. uh
and the feedback that we received after the presentation also was excellent. So just very complimentary of the outcome uh and what we were able to show and you know it just really does um I mean you don't do it for external affirmation of other architects or builders you do it for the students the community the staff but it is nice to get that um and and and you know even in a short time since we've done this project uh and completed you you forget how really awesome it is. Um, so anyway, wanted to share that the the construction project turning the page, but related with our K12 athletic complex in Stevenson Elementary remains, as uh Eric likes to say, on time, on budget, and on quality. Uh, mark your calendars. Coffee and conversation with Superintendent
Andy Gulp this Friday, November 14th, at 8:30 a.m. just outside district offices. Tribe Village Mentor League's bid and benefit event to support our longstanding mentoring and more program is Friday, November 14th. Um, Start Talking Gran View will host a community discussion, Beneath the Surface: Stress, Trauma, and Ways We Cope on Tuesday, November 18th. I encourage you to go to that. I do think that these I I just I don't know if it's just that I'm getting older or it's because of what my wife does for a living, but I can just tell you uh there there's plenty of students, adults out there struggling. So, >> we have a community member expert too that's going to be there. She works with Nationwide. She's awesome. >> Awesome. >> I'll be there. That's great. Yeah. >> Yeah. And
so >> I mean I just there is without a doubt in general uptick of anxiety stress and I think there's a myriad of reasons for that but >> um and and you know I would just take this opportunity again to applaud the forward thinking of the board and supporting our adding FTEES around mental health. Um you know we we we got a I don't know if we got ahead of it but we're well staffed in that area and I I thank everyone involved in that. It looks like you're >> Yes. Expanding the And actually, we just added a new staff member, T. >> Yeah. >> Or C. >> Yeah. Leah, >> no additional cost. >> Yeah. No additional cost, but a new staff member, Leah. It's our our new district therapy dog, by the way.
>> Um, >> can Leah come to a board meeting? Seriously, would love it. >> Yeah, we need a little mental >> name. We invite as many dogs as possible to every meeting. [laughter] >> Aaron McNight. >> Okay. Thank you. >> Well, and Emily's dog likes trucks >> and sirens. >> I was just talking about that. >> Just so you know, [laughter] >> I said I said my dog, who's a seven-year-old girl, but she uh she acts like a a little boy. She loves fire trucks, you know, diggers, and >> we get stuck in one spot. We were talking about a fire alarm going off and my dog refusing to leave until the fire truck came. Anyway, [laughter] >> safety first. >> We digress. Um, okay. Moving on to the core team committee report there. Well,
I mean, I'm trying to think of what all has happened since there was one meeting I missed that you were at and then I was at the branding meeting yesterday. Right. >> I [snorts] think the biggest issue that I would call forth from the last meeting and um as Andy has talked about is the parking >> um continuing to >> figure that out and whether it's possible to move >> the streets to one way and if that is not possible then what is the backup plan >> um and the cost around that >> um >> what's the current standing of that situation >> and so we had another full discussion about it at the branding meeting yesterday was Columbus is not on is seemingly not on board with the original idea of of going one
way for each of the two streets with head-end parking. The head-in parking doesn't work. >> Okay. >> Um in the way that we wanted to to completely uh replace all the spaces you would lose by eliminating that parking lot along third. >> But with that said, you could maybe do some parking there um in a different way. look slightly different um and maybe not pursue oneway traffic because that sort of eliminates a lot of the red tape that you have to go through along the way. Um but nonetheless, you wouldn't get everything that you would need to replace that parking lot. So, one thing that's being pursued is what it might look like to increase the size of this Oakland lot right here. >> Wow. >> Um and stretch it a little bit closer to
first. if you could get more spots here either alone or in conjunction with a few more spots on the streets along um the stadium that that's a possibility where we could still eliminate that lot on third >> and that's still kind of in play but we don't have numbers around any of it yet so that's a huge thing >> how many spots are in that lot >> yeah so so I interestingly Molly on my desk literally I have a post-it note with this exact information um and I left the post-it note on my desk Having said that, I'm gonna say there's um I'll email the board this tomorrow, by the way, with exact figures. Uh do do you remember, Chris? No, you don't. Okay. So, I want to say there's 41. That's what I was
thinking, too. I thought 41. >> 41 spots in the senior lot. >> It was more than >> I think we're I think we're looking at adding potentially something like 27 24 spots in Oakland. And then there could be and this is a big question mark underline all caps uh even without making fair view uh between fifth and third one way an additional 2530 spots. Um my my sense is that that that dream scenario isn't going to come to fruition in terms of a net equal number of spots that we have. Now, my sense is that as it shakes out, in order to do that southside of athletic athletics as designed, there's going to be a net loss of spots. Now, what I can tell, >> not a lot, though. And what I can tell you,
>> the last two days, just for fun, like at 1:30, I went out and counted the number of vacant spots out here, and it's between 50 and 55. >> Oh. So, I share that with you to say that from a superintendent standpoint, >> our ability to operate and provide spots for staff and really students, um, as evidenced by what I just said, >> uh, I'm relatively confident in. I I do think that uh there are staff that park in that senior lot and they like the proximity of that lot to the front door of the high school and there would need to be some shuffling which would be a disruption. Um but it's my judgment which I've shared that the benefit of the spectator athletic community experience of doing that southside of the athletic complex
is worth it. >> Yeah. I would only add one other point. Uh, you know, the cost of making um Northstar and Fairview one way between Fifth and Third was a large number that the district would have had to uh put towards that. >> It would have been a lot of road work. >> Yeah. Large number. And so I mean I still think that making those streets one way commensurate with what exists around the 412 campus uh from a again my humble view I'm not a civil engineer would increase safety for pedestrians and drivers. Um but having said that I think there's a real benefit from a cost standpoint if we're able to carve out some spots on Fair View. It seems to be not Oakland. there seems to be a that the civil engineers believe
without making fair view in one way we can get some more spots there. So that's a win. >> Well, and I I mean I could be wrong here. I don't think I am though that like no work we would even if we did not pursue one way on Fairview and Northstar. Nothing we would do would preclude Columbus from going for that some point in the future. Like that that would be just their policy decision. They could at any point in time say yeah we think it would be safer if we made these women and they could do they could just do that without us doing anything. That's right. >> So, we're making progress. It It's proven to be uh far more challenging than maybe what I naively thought. >> We'll get there. And and the
discussions we're having surrounding it aren't changing the timeline. That the timeline's still moving forward. Oh, great. >> Um because everything that would be the first things to get done can still, you know, be done as this conversation progresses. And I will say as part of the facilities update because we spent a lot of time talking about athletics rightfully so. And I agree Eric for what it's worth uh coming from me as well. That is the of of all of the construction and planning that we're doing. That is the thing that is causing me some anxiety. The the parking lot issue and streetscape. Switching to Stephvenson. However, um the product that we've create that the team has created and what the renderings and we're at the phase now where they're doing the branding and logoing um
like aesthetic uh walls and really elementary and it gets me very very excited for the students that are going to inhabit that. It just uh that team has done a remarkable job and and so you know we're we're at that phase now where they're putting like the the the sharp ends of design and it's looking fabulous. >> And I know Andy forwards um the the email slides that they have for me. [clears throat] If you haven't taken a look I would encourage you to do so because yeah I look at it and I'm like it looks so good. >> It is exciting. >> I'm not going to look till it's open. Oh, it's it's really like they they have done a really really good job of >> Yeah. Like you said, all of now that
we're in the branding phase and stuff, it's like really exciting. >> Yeah. And there's more even I mean we're not done with it, but what you'll see if you choose to look at it, >> you'll I think be equally as excited as I am. >> That's >> I feel like we come out of those meetings and everybody from the district is always like, "You did such a good job." It's like it just looks really good. >> Yeah. Is there a website like there was with the other bill that keeps people up to date? I know that I say that that was around cons. >> We we have posted uh Haley does a great job of posting those to our facilities, >> you know, top righthand corner facilities and then I think it's disagregated to like
0582018 2024. >> Okay, cool. >> So, yes. >> Is it about time [cough and clears throat] for your hardhead updates to come back? >> Yeah, we will. We will do those. We haven't. >> Well, yet there's no hard hat yet. >> Yeah, there's no hard hat. >> Still too early. >> I still have my heart. >> I do, too. >> Still too early for the drone. >> Molly, we're going to get the band back together. >> I got my heart. I just found it the other day. >> That thing out when I'm not looking at things. >> Yeah. >> You know, though, I I got to just say all I obviously enjoyed doing those with Chris and with Jay and Colleen. truly enjoy doing them because they're just such a great they're so great and
Chris does such a good job. But I will tell you my favorite was the last one with Chris Taio. >> If you haven't watched that one, watch it. >> Yeah. >> I mean, you don't have to, but and again, Chris Tao was our superintendent. More boots on the ground, you know, hands dirty dayto-day. Uh great great superintendent, great person. And he was averse adamant about not ever doing that. And I tried, as you might imagine, to get him to do that. And no, no, no. In fact, one time he was sprinting down the hallway. Anyway, he did the last one and listen to him talk about it. Oh, good stuff. >> That's awesome. >> Okay, so then we're gonna move on. Yeah, it was kind of longer than um so we're under construction recommendations for
approval. We do have the modular lease agreement which is kind of exciting. Yeah, it's really getting real. Um is there a motion to approve? >> So move. >> Second. >> Okay. Any discussion, questions? >> Quick the Thank you to the city of Grand View Heights. the as you know they own that parcel park parcel on first avenue and they are allowing us to stage that which is significantly helpful and they certainly don't have to do that so but appreciate them I just wanted to mention that >> yeah good >> okay Beth can you call the role >> Mr. Bod >> hi >> Mrs. Garti I [clears throat] >> Mr. Gusay >> hi >> Mrs. Matney. >> Hi. >> And Miss Wasmith. >> Hi. >> But just total sidebar here. You said that about the city
of Grand View. That just reminded me. Their um ribbon cutting ceremony for the new municipal building is next Tuesday. Yeah. So, >> it's an open house, right? 4 to 7. 4 to 7. >> I'm going to go. Um I'm gonna go. >> I'll be there. >> It's been quite a journey for them. >> Okay. Treasures presentation. >> Okay. So I have some financial highlights to share and then I am going to switch gears and give an update on the annual bond millage setting process. Um so just uh first of all taking a look at our levy funds. Um our general fund revenues are where we expect them to be at this point in the year. Um not a whole lot to to share. Everything is right in line. Um we have received our first um
settlement of the fiscal year. the the next settlement will be tax bills usually go out in December, January. We'll start start um collecting advances and and we will request those to invest that money as quickly as we can to to maximize interest earnings. Um so you'll see the big revenue sources are are at about 50% um again right where we expect them to be. Um our expenditures are 33.5% so we're within 210en of a percent right now on our budget. Um so that actually is where we would expect to um some of our expenses are frontloaded for the fiscal year and so this is um this is typical of where we're at. Um investments um interest rates are are um adjusting a little bit in response to some of the rate cuts. Um so US
Bank are that's our longer term investment account where we look at the expected um this is general fund but um you know our our bond funds are invested there too. and really like strategizing, looking at the draw schedule for construction of when we expect to to need the money to to pay contractors and pay designers and all that. And then really just um investing, you know, based on those cash flow needs and and trying to maximize interest. So, um just under 4% with the investment account and Star Ohio is just over 4%, but Star Ohio is dropping um with the the recent rate um change. Um the PI fund our unencumbered or available balance is about 385,000. Um a couple outstanding projects the the final closeout payment on the track um I did confirm with
Concord Addis that that final GRA and actually Logan would um be able to affirm this too, but that final work that was kind of pending where we were holding the the retainage that has all been 100% completed. We're just waiting on um the contractor who did the work to send the final paperwork and then we'll pay them as soon as as we receive that. So >> [cough] >> um the interior design branding work for this 412 building um the internal team is um kind of planning the next steps. We set aside um funding each year in our PI levy fund to do certain portions of that. And so it's why you see incremental progress, you know, over several years. The most recent was the message boards um that are outside classrooms in in some of
the hallways. And again, the team, um, the principles, um, Logan, um, Jim Buffer, um, you know, really working on, um, prioritizing those dollars to, you know, the areas that where we get the most bang for the buck, where, you know, the most students that are impacted and and so there's some arts and and um athletic hallways and some work that's being planned now that will um probably start um at the end of the school year and be done next summer. So, um, so that's kind of an ongoing and and again, we budget money each each, um, year for that. So, the athletic storage that Logan showed in his, um, presentation, that work is done and, um, just waiting on a final invoice for that. And then looking at the construction fund, um, our interest for
the month was just over 185,000. Project to date is nearing a million dollars. So, that's really really um, great news. Um, keep in mind like one thing for all of us to be mindful of is the arbitrage rebate is is, you know, going to be something that we have to look at this time. The the investment advisor that I work with from Meter Investments um doesn't think that we're going to uh based on the interest rates doesn't think that that we're going to have to rebate, but it'll be much much closer than it it was, you know, with the 2018 issue. So I say that just to say we, you know, we don't want to spend all that money. Um, [laughter] >> right. Like we get excited to see >> we don't want to get
too excited about um that interest revenue yet because there is a chance that some of it could have to be rebated. >> I had three ideas. [laughter] >> Um bond proceed balance is about 67 million. Um again the expenses that we have paid so far are primarily to Perkins and Will the designers I mean that's the work that has been occurring you know these last six months or so and then um a few other firms with planning and and um some engineering firms and and but mainly the the architectural work. So, you know, once we hit June and and ground is broken, you know, obviously that number is going to start dropping a little quicker, but we'll um earn as much interest as we can on it while we have that balance. Um similar interest
rates here. The um the US bank account on the construction side is just a little bit higher um than our general fund right now. Okay. So, um looking at that annual bond millage setting process, just wanted to recap this really quick. Um, you know, this is something that we promised the community back during the 2019 or 2018 bond levy that we would do. We would um be transparent about this every year and share this in a public setting. And so um this is the time of year when when we do that. So just kind of a quick um overview of that process. So this process takes place every year for bond levies whether you have a unique situation like we have or not. So, every school district with a with a bond levy goes through
through this process. And it's really um it's different than other levies because it is calculated based on how much money the school district needs to make the principal and interest payments. So, it's not driven from property values or a certain millage rate. It's it's kind of you work backwards to come up with a millage rate based on the dollars that you need to make the the debt payments. And so that's a little bit um different than than an operating levy or a PI levy. So generally what happens um late October, early November, the county auditor asks us to as treasurers to fill out um a little form that says how much money we have in that bond retirement fund. you know, usually there's a little bit of a carryover from the last last time we've
collected taxes, how much our bond payments are and and so forth so that they can back into that calculation. And then usually by u mid to late November. Um so before our next board meeting, they will um calculate that, send it to me and ask me to to look at it, make sure I agree with it, sign it, and send it back to them. And so those rates then um go into effect in January. And so again, that's the general process for every school district's bond issue working with the county auditor's office. So what makes ours a little bit unique is that we have a um you know another funding source that we have pledged and earmarked to help pay those principal and interest payments. And so just a a quick recap um so you
know with our November 2018 bond levy the ballot millillage was 7.51. it represented about a 5.85 increase because we had a 1994 levy dropping at that same time. So, um, that fell off, this one went on. So, it was a net increase of just under six mills. And the board passed a resolution in October of 2018 that said if we were successful in renegotiating the Grand View yard compensation agreement that we would put that extra money towards this bond principle and interest which reduces the amount that the county auditor has to assess in millillage to our taxpayers. And so really it's um you know kind of subsidizing that payment um so our taxpayers get a little bit of a break on that. And so with that, the actual increase um even though on the ballot
it was about 5.85 mil difference, it ended up being an actual increase of only about 2.8 mills. And so um you know that was less than half just under half of of what that increase would have been. And again, we we committed, you know, we had a lot of questions um rightfully so from from the community about, you know, how do we know that you're going to use this money for this purpose? And so, again, you know, this is something that we share each year. We show how this process works. Um the annual certification that I just filed um a little over a week ago, I reported a million58,906 of Grand View yard funds that will be used um you know they come into our our operating fund. They go into our general fund and
then the board authorizes the transfer in April. We move that money over and then they're used to pay the debt that calendar year. And so a little over a million dollars will be used um in 2026 to to make the the principal and interest payments. And um again, I sent that to the the county auditor on October 29th. And I'll have um a millage rate to share at the next meeting. So, this slide shows um that form that the county auditor asks for. And the um line that you can see highlighted in that kind of orange um is under other sources of cash that will be used to help pay. And so that money comes off of what is needed to to make those principal and interest payments. So that's kind of the mechanism that's
used and that's kind of how that process works. Um and so again by the next board meeting I'll have an update on on how this information then translates into um a new uh military for 2026. So this is unique obviously for our 2018 levy. Um, you know, fast forward to now, we have a 2024 bond levy um that goes through that same process, but we the the difference is we don't have another revenue source that is being used to to um help make those payments, which you know, probably 99.9% of school districts do not have another revenue source. So, this is very unique. um you know the bond levies are guaranteed by the you know the full faith and credit of the school district and the taxpayers and that's the money that's used to to
make those payments. And so again this is um unique [clears throat] to that 2018 issue. Um and then this last slide just shows the history of kind of how those bond levies have um uh you know transitioned over the years. Um you can see in red that was kind of the the tail end of the 1994 bond levy. Um it was used to to um make some improvements to the buildings. I think some HVAC work some um some different things. That uh final payment was made in uh 2019 final principal payment. So that that issue is completely paid off. Um, again, I I mentioned that we had the new 2018 levy coming on at the same time that the old one was dropping off, which is why that net increase was less than what the
what we had to put on the ballot as the new bond levy. Um, so you can see that transition in 2019 um in the gold the the 2019 or 2018 levy coming on and then you can see it has um gradually dropped a little bit and that is because valuation has increased. And so, you know, with bond levies, as property valuation increases, we don't need more money to make those same principle and interest payments. And so, the millage drops. And so, regardless of what happens to property values, the millage is going to be set to generate that same amount of money that we need to make those payments. And so, you can see that drop a little bit. And then um with 2025, the new millillage for the um for the current project went on.
So just a little bit of history there. Um and that is all I've got. >> Questions? >> Um to the you mentioned the unique nature of the yard for the 2018. if we end up using the A funds for phase three of the athletic complex that'll be separate and apart from the bond issue. So we won't have to Is that right? >> Um that is correct. So um so just kind of a reminder in the 2024 bond levy we the planning for the athletic complex um was broken down into three phases. And so that bond levy in 2024 we asked for funding from the community >> for just the first two phases. And at that time, um, you know, a lot's changed since then, but at that time, our plan was to use future tax
revenue from the the A substation to fund that. And so fund phase three, >> phase three down the road. So, we knew that it was still a few years out before we would start collecting any of that money. You know, that it's not even completely built yet. It's it's getting closer now. >> Um, but there's a couple year delay for it to go on and all that. So, we knew we were going to have some money down the road and so we um you know the plan was to use that and so there would be no debt issued. We would just receive that funding and then um finance that. Now, having said that um the the legislation has changed how public utilities are are taxed in um in Ohio >> and it's it it's effective
for new public util that go into service in 2026 and after. Well, I think that explains why there was some delays that we weren't sure why there were so many delays with the with this project is because >> this was in the pipeline that so the the assessment rate goes from I think it was 85% of the value of those were taxed down to 25%. So, so Kevin, to get back to your question, we're going to receive considerably less in a tax revenue um than what we thought we were going to, right? You know, a year ago, >> but the the plan is still, you know, we set aside um at the end of June of of 2025, we set aside $7.2 2 million that that um we had been saving, you know, just in
our general fund. And and you know, it's largely because of the growth that we get in in the yard. And so, um we have been able to build that balance up a little bit and set that money aside to help with um you know, some of those things. So, the parking situation, the the phase three down the road. And so it'll look a little bit different, but the the plan is, you know, phase three is still not part of this, you know, the baseball field end. >> Um and so we're we're kind of depending on what happens with the parking lot >> because part of this end where that parking lot is was going to be in phase three. And so, um, so anyway, all that to say that that we're still kind of working
through how that will all um shake out depending on how the the parking situation um results. >> But yes, that that plan was to use some of that new A money to to help fund phase three, >> but it won't affect bond millillage because we're not going to issue debt the same way. >> Correct. >> And then my second question real quick, the bond levies adjust. They kind of ratchet down as property values go up. Is that not true for operating levies? they stay. >> So operating levies. Um so that what's kind of unique with bond levies is you work backwards to you start with dollars and you work backwards to get a a mill. Yeah. So operating levies do um you know for districts not at the 20 mil floor which we're not operating
levies do roll back as values go up. Okay. the the um one exception to that is um that inside millillage piece which is five mills for our district. So five out of So it's a it's a small percentage five mills out of like 40ish mills um do not roll back. >> Yeah. So the bond levy again starts kind of with dollars that you need and works backward to a rate. the the operating levies in year one start with a a millage rate and then as values go up that rate >> right >> goes back proportionately goes down to generate about the same amount >> starts as a rate but then effectively >> becomes like an amount similarly ratchets when you said that because that's kind of what I thought but when you said that I
was like oh do operating levies not do that but they do >> they do do that yeah kind of after year one >> that's why that's why I asked because I thought wait a And that's why they call like the effective what becomes the effective mill rate because you have a millage rate and then once values increase it's like your effective millage rate is actually lower because >> so you kind of once you set that millage rate in year one of an operating that kind of results in a dollar amount that kind of gets locked in and then yeah from there stays Yeah. >> And there's another minor exception for new construction too like once a new construction comes online it adds to it as opposed to like matched it down but minor exceptions. actually
took a picture today as I drove by the AP site. >> I mean, the walls are almost complete now. >> It's close to being done. >> It's worth driving by. [laughter] >> Yeah, they're not I can tell you they're not done before. >> I can promise you before the end of this year. >> Promise you'll be more money. [laughter] >> Lay one brick. I mean, I think the big point which I think is very important for us to recognize is that um you know that phase three which I think we all want to do um you know we have to be creative about the funding for that and um you know a big piece of that in my mind is if there's any um uh funds you know from the bond issue that we already
did. So, you know, my goal all along has been, you know, build what we said we were going to build and, you know, hopefully it costs less than than what it could have. Um, you never know with tariffs and bidding and and everything else, but um uh you know, stay true to what we said we're going to build. And if it turns out that, you know, it costs a million dollars less than that or $2 million less than that or $5 million less than that, then that's awesome. and we have some money left over >> which I think typically an approach to construction is hey we got money let's spend it on the project >> you know we have more money let's you know add things >> right right >> all the >> yeah that's
a really good point if there are so when we finished the last project we had about $300,000 left over and we were able to um well we're required to use that for purposes consistent with what the bond levy was. And so that was for you know the building construction of school you know a a school building and the you know the associated site and so we use that extra money that 300,000 towards um saving for the track replacement. And so um so Eric makes a really good point. you know, we're we're earning a good amount of interest and we're going to keep doing that as much as possible and um any you know, that's money above and beyond the the project budget. And so anything that we have left over at the end um uh
could be put towards that that phase three. >> Um thank you for that presentation. That was a lot, but does the finance committee have anything else to add? Um, I was just going to add, you know, we did spend some time talking about the PI fund and the the plan, which I think is awesome. It's a multi-year look, I think, a fiveyear look ahead, which is really good planning. And um, I think Beth made the comment which I thought was like an important point, which is that when this building, these two buildings were built, um, we ended up not including a lot the branding, the design, and you know, some of those things. And so, um, those have been extra expenses that have come along afterwards. Whereas in the Stevenson project, a lot of that
is being thought of and I think it's really thoughtfully done, you know, and incorporated, you got the right designers there and everything. >> Um, so some of those costs which maybe earlier had been like we got to, you know, add some of those that's going to be a drain on the PI fund. to do some of that artwork and branding off some years in the future really probably won't be because a lot of that will be part of the the initial project and so that's kind of freed up some money and the the PI balance looks really good you know right now as you look at the multi-year that um you know there'll be a balance to do some things in the future >> so there just I don't think there's really a decision point
at this point around that there will be I know around like once the um you know the trailers that we just approved leave and we have to figure out what to do. The >> modular Thank you. Thank you. [laughter] >> Um you know though that could be an expense but um uh anyway I think you know there's some money there. >> Talked about we talked about grass versus >> No, we're not talking about turf. Not >> not today. >> Did I say the word turf? I did not. I said saw. We talked about sod. We have a uh we're in a good spot. >> Yeah. One other thing that we we talked about and I think I mentioned this last meeting too. Beth has continued to work on and improve this um document looking at
personnel and FTEES over many years. Yeah. >> Which I think is just really really helpful. I mean every time I look at it I learn something new and you know there's a lot of granular detail about it but you it does show some of the growth that we've had particularly in the non-eing like the non-classroom teaching positions you know some of the mental health things that we talked about and the reading uh improvement and um some other things that you know it's like one here two here one here and they kind of add up >> but um I think it's a really valuable document and you know at some point when you sort of keep noodling through it And I think that'd be very valuable to >> it. It's interesting the way that um with
that >> we have um some of our ESPs that do like transportation. So instead of having like Tristar come in and we use our own vehicles like the amount of money that's saved. >> Yeah. Rob Brown has really um really worked some magic there um in terms of hiring, you know, it's it's a staff member so it's shown up on those FTEEs, but it's a it's a paraprofessional, you know, on our payroll that is transporting kids um you know, to the um to the outside placements that they go to, >> which is is literally tens of thousands of dollars cheaper than um paying the the typical transportation company that comes and picks kids up and and drives them. Um, so yeah, so hats off to to Rob for really being creative and and making that
work. >> Thank you. >> Okay. Under business and finance, we do have recommended for approval uh C1 through I think it's 10. Let make sure. Yeah, 1 through 10. Is there a motion to approve to move? >> Second. Um any questions, discussion? >> Just want to, you know, I tend to like to highlight the donations, but um you know, teacher donating to BART, I think that's that was remarkable to me and I really >> I think she's the advisor. >> Yeah, that is really really generous. >> I miss them. They haven't been here past couple months, but you know, I'm glad that they're still working. No, I was the last time. >> They were here the last time I was here. >> Um, okay. Beth, can you please call the role? >> Mr. Bod, >>
hi. >> Mrs. Gart, >> hi. >> Mr. Gusay, >> hi. >> Mrs. Matney, >> hi. >> And Miss W. >> I under personnel recommended for approval 10 A1 through 8. Is there a motion to approve? >> So move. >> Second. >> Any discussion? Okay, Beth, can you please call the role? >> Mr. Bod, >> hi. >> Mrs. Gart, hi. >> Mr. Gay, >> hi. >> Mrs. Matney, >> hi. >> Most >> I. Is there a policy committee report? >> Yes, we um have several. It was it was a a large PDQ this time. Um so, we have a lot of uh policies that are on first read. Um, and our new assistant principal, Anthony Petta, did a really good job of um, summarizing them and making them available. Uh, and I can answer any questions
on them. There's a bunch on here that you guys can read. >> What policy B1? >> What on here is not um, like mandated required? I word. >> Is there anything on here that's not required? Can you >> Yeah, >> he had a summarizing document that talked about which ones were required and which ones weren't. >> Sometimes >> I think the majority were required, but there were some that were recommended. >> Yeah. >> Um as opposed to required, but the vast majority were required. And really, >> um you know, I mean, Kevin, I'm It's been a while since we met. >> Yeah. But my sense was is there wasn't there isn't anything that we're asking the board to approve here that I would describe as >> Controversial. Yeah. Thank you, Kevin. That's exactly the word
I was looking for. >> I would definitely agree. >> Yeah, I I mean it's pretty it was pretty >> um standard fair. >> Yeah, I'll look if you don't have it, Kevin. I'll look too because I'm always curious as to what's required versus recommended because the way I do >> the open enrollment Is there anything around that that caught my eye? >> No, no changes. >> No changes >> for Graual policy >> in terms of open enrollment. Basically, it's >> it was a military issue, wasn't it? >> Yeah, but I think we that was already in place, but the language just modified a little bit. >> Was a one word change. >> Yeah, exactly. It was literally I think a one word I mean maybe more than one, but it was a like two or
three word change. Um but no change really to our practice whatsoever. >> Yeah. >> Well, those are just the first readings, so we don't have a vote on them until our next meeting in December. Um is there a teaching and learning committee report? >> We did meet and that we talked about honestly was a career um the career tech location. So currently we use Fort Hayes in the downtown high school and Angie and others are looking into um the Eastland Fairfield Career Center >> just as a consideration. >> They seem to have more uh more opportunities >> that would be available to our students, >> but it's still in the investigation. >> Yes. >> Yeah. Four miles difference, I think. Maybe six. mentioned she said it was probably about a 14 minute >> increase and
we do we do transport our students so it would be on our dime >> at least it's not like it would it's not like we would put it on the students it would be >> yeah but it would be more time >> so the other thing that I would say too is even if we did make that change that that that change is a process that takes I think about a year to to do and so it's not something that's going to happen um tomorrow or next month or the month after >> that's correct it would be the 26 and it would it would require I think ultimately some type of board action as well in terms of contract >> for sure and some legal stuff. >> Yes. >> Yeah. So that bigger deal happened
to be what we were talking about. >> It's a bigger deal than one might think >> differently pressing. It's just what we that's what we talked about. That was the main thing we talked about. >> Yes. >> You didn't miss it. I I was too. You were only about five minutes later than I was. >> Okay. >> That's it. >> Okay. All right. Under curriculum and instruction, we do have one item for approval. Um, so 12B1, candidate for graduation, [laughter] Henry Elinger. Is there a motion to approve? >> So moved. >> Second. >> Okay. Any discussion? >> Congratulations. >> Yes, absolutely. His father will be our new board member here in January. >> Mixed emotions probably on that one. Absolutely. >> Okay, Beth, can you call the role? >> Mr. Bod, >> hi. >> Mrs.
Gart, >> hi. >> Mr. Guousay, >> hi. >> Mrs. Matney, >> hi. >> And Miss Wasman, >> I Okay. Uh 13, co-curricular activities and extracurricular activities A1 through six for approval. Is there a motion to approve? So move. Second. discussion >> just um between three and four is that boys versus girls or I'm missing something about what the difference between >> I don't think they >> um so field trip um >> I bet one's diving and one's swimming >> they're both state tournament um >> they're different dates it's like February 24th and 25th And then 25th. >> I was just guessing that the one to two students was diving and the three to eight students was swim, but that was >> that would make sense. >> Yeah, we have two divers. >> Yeah. >> Okay.
Struggling to understand >> 45 to 50 grand students going to New York at the same time. >> Good luck. Good luck. New York. Um Beth for the swim and dive meet they have to one's it's the state dive meet right and isn't there the other one like if they don't do that one then they're not eligible do I am I making this up >> that's something else >> are the state >> yeah the I could be making it up I feel good about that but >> says the state >> and the not on two >> actually says swim and dive for number two. >> Yeah. Okay. >> Field trip. >> There was one. >> So that number two I think is the one where they have to divers have to um Logan could probably [snorts]
talk better about this but um I think I remember from last year that meet was divers have to be have to compete at a meet that has a certain number of events >> in order to qualify to even >> if they if they qualified for state to be able to to qualify. >> Yeah. because there was something where if they didn't do a they couldn't get B. >> I wasn't that far off my >> I was getting there getting there. >> Thank you. >> Yeah. So the field trip in number one to New York that should say 2026 [snorts] >> instead of that update. >> Okay. Any other discussion? Okay. Can you please call the role? >> Mr. Bod. >> Hi, >> Mrs. Gart. Hi, >> Mr. Gus. >> Hi, >> Mrs. Matney. >> Hi.
>> And Miss Was >> I. >> Does anyone have any other business to bring before the board? >> There will be no executive session tonight. So, is there a motion to adjourn? >> So moved. >> Second. >> Okay. Beth, can you please call the role? >> Mr. Bod. >> Hi. >> Mrs. Gart. >> Hi. >> Mr. Gusetti. >> Hi. >> Mrs. Matney. Hi. >> And Miss Wasman. >> I'm going to book end it here. I want to congratulate Mr. Olinger on a well-deserved election, Mrs. Matney on a well-deserved election, and myself on a well-deserved election. >> Yay. [laughter] >> U for for a couple of you um that haven't I left a form in front of you if you could sign. Those are forms that Department of Education requires us all to sign once a
year. And so, it's just the same one we've done the last several years. Thank you all. >> Meeting is ajourned.
