001I [laughter] don't know that I've been waiting so long to do that meeting called to order. Uh as I am assuming as president prom because I am >> the only one that has stayed on some losses. Uh Mr. Solano, will you please call >> Mr. Anos? >> Mr. Ero >> here. >> Mr. B >> here. >> Mr. Lio >> here. Please stand al to the republic for which it stands. One nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. >> Without further ado, the first thing on our agenda is the office to newly elected board members. Yep. >> In the middle. Yeah. >> Just tell us what to do. >> Yeah. Yeah. [laughter] >> Oh yeah. Do you solemnly swear that you will support the Constitution of United States in the Constitution of the
002State of Ohio and that you will faithfully and partially discharge your duties as member of the board of education of the Mstead Falls City School District County of Kyhoga and Lorraine State of Ohio to the best of your ability and in accordance with the laws now in effect and hereafter to be enacted during your continuence in set office until your successor is chosen and qualified. Thank you. Thank you very much. [applause] Do you, Amy Lauderdale, solemnly swear that you will support the Constitution of the United States in the Constitution of the State of Ohio, and that you will faithfully and impartially discharge your duties as member of the Board of Education of the Almstead Falls City School District and councils of Kyhoga and Lraine, state of Ohio, to the best of your abilities, in accordance
003with the law now in effect and hereafter. after to be enacted during your continuence and set office until your successor is chosen and qualified. >> Thanks. [applause] All >> [clears throat] >> right. Next up is we will take nominations for president uh for the board of education. Anybody like to make a nomination for president? I would like to nominate Bill Ekenro to be president again. I second. I second. We take a vote. >> Yes. Into >> Yes. road. >> Yes. >> Funk, >> yes. >> Miss Lauderdale, >> yes. >> Motion to accept the nominations of Mr. Phil Echenro as board president. [applause] two more times. Do you, Philip Eckenro, solemnly swear that you will support the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution of the State of Ohio, and that you will faithfully and
004impartially discharge your duties as member of the board of education of themsel City School District and council of Kaihoga and Lorraine, state of Ohio, to the best of your abilities, in accordance with the laws now in effect and hereafter. after to be enacted during your continuence and set office until your successor is chosen and qualified. I will. [applause] We're supposed to relinquish the power bill. >> One more time. We do the order. Thank you. >> Give it up for Mr. F for funing a great meeting. [applause] Thanks. All right. Thank you, Justin. Thank you, everybody. Thanks to everybody who's here too to see how the sausage is made as we start our new year. Um we do this every year. It's our organizational meeting. We appoint these positions and uh so you know even though
005you may serve on the board for a full four-year term every year considers uh who it wants its uh leadership and everything to be so grateful to be uh back in the seat and looking forward to a great year. Uh with that I will need some help. So I will accept nominations for vice president of the board of education. >> I nominate Justin Trump for vice president. >> Mr. Anto second that. Any other nominations for vice president. Okay. So hearing none then we will vote on Mr. Funk as vice president of the board. >> Santos. >> Yes. >> Road. >> Yes. >> Motion carries. >> Congratulations. >> I can be sworn in first. >> Okay. >> Yeah. Official. >> It's not official. >> That's true. You can change your mind. Do you, Justin Funk, pres
006vice president of the Mstead Falls City Board of Education, solemnly swear that you will support the Constitution of this state of Ohio, United States in the Constitution of the State of Ohio, and that you will faithfully and impartially discharge your duties as vice president of the board of education of Mstead Falls City School District, counties of Kyhoga and Lraine, state of Ohio, to the best of your ability. abilities and in accordance with the law now in effect and hereafter to be enacted during your continuence in set office and until your successor is chosen and qualified. >> I do. >> Thank you. [applause] >> Thank you, Mr. funk for stepping into this role as the second longest tenured member of this board. It's glad to have you uh glad to have you on board. So, thank
007you. Uh moving on to agenda item number uh 8A, which is just a a notice uh that we're required to post regarding the uh compensation paid to the board um for the meeting they attend as set by um state law. Uh, no action required there. Uh, agenda item number nine is a calendar of dates for the 2026 meetings. Um, as I communicated to the board earlier today. Um, let me know any conflicts that anyone has. We'll obviously need to see what conflicts our new board member uh has as well. Um, and we [clears throat] will adjust the calendar accordingly going forward. Uh, just for for Yeah. >> Can we actually go back to not we do have to vote on this? >> Oh, we do. Okay. >> So, we need a first and second for
008compensation for meetings. >> Uh so, second >> questions. >> Mr. Punk. >> Yes. >> Mr. Antos. >> Yes. >> Mr. Ludrea. >> Yes. >> Mr. Ero. >> Yes. >> Thank you. >> Yes. >> Thank you, Mr. Gano. >> And the C is silent. >> C is pretend it's not there. >> Yep. called you the wrong names. It's about 52 times in the interview process. So, appreciate your patience. Um, so we will adjust the uh board calendar as necessary for the public's benefit. We, you know, usually we have two meetings a month. We have a regular meeting and a work session. Uh, if business is light in a given month, we will uh sometimes cancel the work session, but we will at a bare minimum have one meeting a month and we will uh move those
009dates around and give the public notice as we as necessary. Uh okay good. Uh moving on to agenda item number 10. This is to appoint what we call the legislative liaison. This is a person on the board who kind of keeps uh track of uh you know developments at the local, state and federal level uh legally that affect us uh reports out to the board uh from time to time on those developments. And uh thanks to Mrs. Walker for having served in this role for the past number of years. Um, so we will uh need somebody new to serve in that role now. So I will accept uh any uh nominations for the legislative liaison for 2026. >> I'd like to nominate Amy. >> I would second that nomination. >> Any other nominations? >> Mr.
010Funk. >> Yes. >> Menro. >> Yes. >> Mr. Yes, >> Lauderdale. >> Yes. Congratulations. >> Thanks, Amy. >> Thank you, Amy. There's no extra pay for that. So, [laughter] >> and no applause. >> Yeah. And no applause. [applause] >> No. From time to time, uh, as you'll see, we go throughout the year, there are various positions like this that will be filled by various board members. Um, we have somebody who serves as our representative for Southwest General Hospital. believe it or not, we send somebody to the annual meeting u because we're part of the hospital system technically. So, um these things will come up from time to time and it's a great opportunity for newer board members in particular to take on one of these things. So, plenty of opportunities for um the rest of
011us here in the future. >> Okay, agenda item number 11. >> Sorry, I promise this is not my first meeting. N >> just getting used to how you guys have your agendas, but we do have to vote on the dates and times on the board meetings. Okay. Okay. So, I apologize. >> No, good. That's fine. >> Have a motion. >> So, moved. >> Second. >> Already discussed it. So, >> yep. >> Mr. Punk. >> Yes. >> Mr. Road. >> Yes. >> Mr. Antos. >> Yes. M. >> Yes. >> Thank you. Calendar is set for now. DVD. >> U. Okay. Item number 11, approval of the 2026 expeditious transaction resolution. What this basically means is that every year uh anyone that's been to a board meeting, you'll see that as we get toward the end, we
012have what's called the consent agenda. Uh which means kind of fairly um you know un non-controversial or regular renewal type things that we have to vote on as a board. Um if we read each [clears throat] one of those allowed every single meeting, we would be here until 1:00 in the morning. Um, so what Ohio law allows a board like this to do is every year pass a resolution that gives it the flexibility to approve those items in what's called the consent agenda. Um, I think we're pretty good about recognizing things that should not be part of that consent agenda and talking about them and deliberating about them specifically in the public. um everything from things that we know are going to be more controversial topics to approving um you know family members who work
013in the district for you know jobs or things like that. So anything that's kind of obviously needs to be discussed in public uh separately, we do that. Otherwise, we can approve things through the consent agenda. And even if something is on the consent agenda, it's always available um through board docs through the agenda. The public can see what we're doing. So if anyone ever has questions about why something's approved in a consent agenda, feel free to uh email us or or ask. But this resolution in 11A gives us the ability to do that and to authorize the U superintendent and the treasurer to you know do their jobs which are running the school district on a day-to-day basis and not needing to come to the board um for every $5 expense that we have. >>
014Do you have anything else you'd like to add? >> No, I mean the big one of the biggest things I think is really just the ability to be able to accept people's resignations. Um and then also to be able to um offer employment to people as well during times where the board is not in session. Um the board always votes on every hire and every resignation but allows the authority to do that. We use that particularly during the summer but also you know times between when it's necessary. So that would be the >> Yeah, that's good though. Thank you. Any questions, comments? No, it's very So with that, I'll accept the motion to approve the expeditious transaction um resolution in 11A. >> There you go. Second. >> Any com comments, discussion? With that, we can
015vote. >> Miss Lauderdale. >> Yes. >> Mr. Funk, >> yes. >> Mr. Angel, >> yes. >> Mr. Einro, >> yes. Motion carries. Thank you. Uh moving on to 12A is approval of uh property tax exemption. This is a this is an annual, right? We do this every year, right? Treasure. Yes. Okay. Um and uh Mr. Colan, do you want to say anything about what this is generally or um >> this is Go ahead. just that we anytime um anyone wants to submit application for exemption or taxation for properties we tell them taxing district you know it's their duty and their right to do that. So it's just that we are approving this every year and usually legal gets involved with that depending on how much it's going to be cost to the district and how
016much we could possibly lose if we want to fight it or not. So if somebody's looking for an exemption or a reduction in their evaluation, the board of education has to be notified so that we can take action if we want. Right. >> Y [snorts] >> um so with that, I'll accept the motion to approve the annual tax exemption notification resolution set forth in 12. >> Discussion. >> Mr. Antos. >> Yes. >> Mr. ML. >> Yes. >> Mr. Funk. >> Yes. >> Mr. >> Yes. Motion [clears throat and snorts] carries. Thank you. Uh 13A. Uh historically the board has delegated uh to the treasurer um or for the treasur to be our designate for public records requests and handling requests when those come in from the district. U citizens. Um treasur's office has handled that
017for a long time and treasur's office is uh thankfully willing to you handling that for us. So, um this would be to uh designate the treasur's office uh as the public records designate for the district. I'll accept a motion as such. >> Second. >> Any discussion? >> It's really fun training. If any of you want to take it just to take it. >> Oh, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. You want to you want to talk about no extra pay for something? This is one that you probably should be getting paid more. You're not. Uh with that we can call the vote. >> Mr. Punk, >> yes. >> Mr. Entos, >> yes. >> Mr. Lauderdale, >> yes. >> Mr. Ero, >> yes. Motion carries. Uh we do not have any executive session for purposes of the organizational meeting.
018We will have an executive session at the end of the next meeting that's going to start immediately after this meeting um to discuss the appointment of our um empty board seat we have here. But for purposes of the organizational meeting, we do not need executive session. Um, so with that, I will accept a motion to adjourn the organizational meeting at 6:18 p.m. >> Vote when you're ready. >> Mr. Punk, >> yes. >> Mr. Antos, >> yes. >> Mr. Lauderdale, >> yes. >> Mr. Earro, >> yes. Meeting a journ. >> Okay, so that was the really exciting part of what we do. Yeah. Thank you. Yeah, [applause] you can clap for that. Um, before we start our next meeting, do we want to get pictures with family members of our new board members who are here
019who probably do not want to sit here and wait until the very end of the night to do that? Um, so let's take a very brief recess. Also, we have I'm audible. Yeah, >> we have we uh January uh is uh >> I will call to order our regular meeting at 6. >> Call the role when you're >> Mr. Antos >> here. Mr. Ro >> here. >> Mr. Funk >> here. >> Mrs. Log >> here. >> Please stand for the pledge algiance to the flag of the United States of America. and to the republic for which it stands. One nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. >> Okay, welcome to our first regular meeting of the year. Welcome to Mrs. Lauderdale. Welcome to Mr. Antos. Happy to have you both. Look forward
020to working with you. Forward to working with uh player to be named later uh who we will decide at the end of tonight. Um, so lots going on here at the beginning of the year, but uh and welcome to Mr. Galano for your first meeting as well. So, >> thank you. >> Uh, getting right into it. Agenda item 2A, public hearing on the tax budget for fiscal year 2027. Does the treasurer have any comment on any of that? Yeah, this is just for Ohio revised code having to post it to the public so the public could come and ask questions to see it if they have any questions about the tax budget that will be approved later on in the meeting. >> Very good. Thank you. Moving on to administrative reports. Uh PTA uh is
021not here. I'm sure they're doing great. They always do great. Um Polaris update. Um I'll be giving the Polaris update this year even though Mrs. Mrs. Walker, as a reminder, is uh finishing her term on the Polaris board. I am filling the one-year rotating seat on that board. Uh we have not met since this board last met, so there is no update, but we have a meeting tomorrow night, so I will be able to report back after tomorrow. Um moving on to the chief operating officer, Dr. Zeller. >> Thank you. Um, not too much has changed since our last meeting, um, obviously we welcome some changes in the central office. So really the biggest thing right now that's coming out of my office is Patrick's office as we look for a new payroll person. Um,
022so we've launched that search and we have candidates and now we're just trying to figure out the timeline to get that settled and ready to go. And then as we turn our eyes toward next year and what staffing will look like, uh we're meeting Dr. Will, Dr. Goss, myself, Stephanie Brad, we're going to be meeting with all the building principles. Um my office, we've registered for job fairs at Cleveland State, Bowling Green, and noted, which is the University of A to be the best job fairs for us to recruit new talent from. So look forward to those. Those will take place in February, March, and April. >> Awesome. Thank you, Brian. Any questions for Brian? >> Thank you. Uh, assistant Superintendent Dr. Goss. >> Good evening. I regret not being able to join the December
02323rd board meeting. Um, I believe Dr. W may have passed on. We had the flu running through the house and I did not think it was wise to come here two days before Christmas. That's why you're still sitting so far away from us. >> So now I'm over here by myself. >> So um the report I wanted to give tonight, it seemed timely because this Friday we do have professional development day or non- studentent workday in the district and I thought it would be an opportune time to give you an overview of what that looks like in the district given we have some new board members as well. So if you can um show me grace as I look at my notes. If you look at our district calendar, you'll note that there are eight
024days throughout the school year where um a combination of our certified and classified staff um come together, but students are not in attendance. Um that gives us the opportunity to do a variety of things. So, we have five devoted district PD days. Um three of those are at the beginning of the school year before students return. It's a combination of our opening convocation day. Um board members are always invited to that if your schedule allows and you want to come in and and check out the the beginning of the year energy. Um that often is an opportunity for our respective unions to come together to have their opening year assembly. We have our opening year staff meetings and then those two days that follow is a variety of um building based curriculum professional development. It
025might be safety, health training um and other nuts and bolts to get the year off. We may have targeted groups even on the classified side that are getting bus safety training, pair professionals getting CPR training, etc. Um, when we move into building based professional development, um, it doesn't always line up depending on the five buildings. So, this Friday, our two building based PD days are with Early Childhood Center and Falls Linux because they run on trimesters. So, they are then going to develop their own agenda. So both principal Jackson and principal Lisa Williams have done that. Um they will focus on a variety of topics such as curriculum mapping um uh grade level collaboration which also includes new curriculum. Um it may also include benefits based accountability design work uh PBIS for example. The other
026three buildings this Friday have a records day. So that time is for teachers to come together um either as a department if they choose to but to also work in their own classroom um and have that that time to continue to move forward with the second half of the year. Um we then throughout the year have additional days where um we may have a combined effort a technology focused day um we may have a safety driven day which we be looking at later in the school year. So um as we look to the January day, our focus is two of the five have a building based driven day. The other three are records and then that flips in February. So if you have more interest or other questions, you can look at the calendar and
027see what the focus is and when those dates fall. And we'll always keep you updated through admin reports what are happening um on those particular non- studentent days. But if there's any questions I can answer now um I'd be happy to do that. and Dr. Lloyd, Dr. Zeller, if I if I missed anything. >> What have been some of those outcomes of those days for students? Have they gotten opportunities after they've been through those? Have they gotten jobs career-wise? What how's what's been outcomes for that >> for students in particular? Well, I think it depends on um what we're targeting. There are times where students may actually be involved in those days and come in because the building has wanted to have a focus group with students. For example, um most recently we had some
028high school students come in. It wasn't a PD day, but one students were on break that are postgrads. The high school invited them in to come in and talk about what their experience was like. >> Um so there was an outcome where they were able to be a feedback loop for us. That was good. Um but the professional development focus depending on the target it might be we're further developing staff um so that they can further support students in the classroom. >> Cool. Any questions? >> Thanks Shannon. >> Sure. >> Uh superintendent report Dr. Um, couple things. There are going to be recruiting new board members and so um the top of my list is induction I guess of of new board members and orientation and so that can be done in a variety of
029ways. This is my 19th year um working in Homestead Falls and so different boards have done it differently. One of the things that I had suggested um I asked you all to like the date of April 17th and April 18th. We're working on a potential collaborative with the Schleucky organization along with a few other different school districts. So, that's kind of going to continue to move on and that could be none of you or all of you or some variation therein or or I should say and um we can meet with we can meet with you individually and talk to you about like whatever questions that you have. I mean, um, I know that, uh, when Mr. Perez was a board member, I believe he visited buildings if he hadn't had the opportunity to do
030that. I mean, it varies on the person. Um, some people have been in the buildings more than than others, but also just to kind of get a download. So, I guess I would just give you the invitation that if you want um, we're here to answer any questions that you have about like why do you do that or or whatever and can give you additional information. I will uh provide you with access to uh different files and folders for you to look through. All of it is I guess considered public record, but I don't generally speaking to open up like files for the public just to kind of come in and check it out or whatever. But do would do that certainly for board members. So just wanted to uh to offer that to to
031you and whoever um the winner of the mass singer will be whenever they kind of like walk through um the door. Um, the other thing I wanted to do was because we've talked a lot about and you hear a lot about this whole benefits based accountability work. Um, I wanted just to give you a look into what that's for Shannon if you want to have enough for everybody down. There's this is a front and back and um this is generally speaking not something that you pass out to the uh to the public. This is more of an internal kind of document. Um, if you'll recall, I think it was today that I had sent you what what I would call the benefits based accountability shield. If you have happen to open up that email today,
032along with some of the other um things in here too that each building, we're in the process of revising those posters that you see when you walk into the building that that essentially says here are the things that we're focusing on. We are doing these things. we will do these things and we hope to see these kinds of things. But the idea here is um members of the district leadership team um they exist as a group and they talk about district activities but then each one of them represents a particular building. So for instance you have the ECC who may have four or five members. Um fall Xenox has five members and and so on. And what they've done, they do lots of different things, but one of the things that they do is they
033are kind of um sort of the nerve center for understanding what benefits based accountability is. So they learn as we learn as a group and they take those things back to their respective um colleagues and then also talk to their constituent groups and they say, "Okay, here are the what what are your hopes and dreams for your students? What kinds of things do you expect from the school? What benefits do you expect us to give to um to students?" And so we've done that in a variety of different ways. One is through um uh survey. The other thing is we ask parents and through that process of really just being collaborative and vetting. Um each building has has this number of benefits and they settle on the number. Um and that those benefits essentially come
034from the universe. And this is our universe and what benefits are. You can see there's seven different areas and then there are certain benefits um within each one. And um again these these sort of posters that are now in the process of being uh created again or revised um hopefully will be up in February. But when we get together as a district leadership team three times a year they do what's called signaling out. So unlike um the state accountability system which is based solely on standardized test scores that come at the end of the year when everybody is away in the summertime, this is something that we're working on throughout the school year and that we signal out three times during the school year um when we're actually in session. And so um again, everything
035that is on this sheet here comes from the uh 31 benefits that are listed on on this list. If it's blue, it's essentially means we're good to go there. We're not focusing on that. Doesn't mean we're not doing that, but we're not particularly focusing in on that. Those that um have colors and uh sort of letters and numbers within them are benefits that they are focusing on. T means on track, A means making adjustments, three means making more than expected progress, two is making expected progress, and one is not making um enough uh expected progress. And when there's not um a number associated with it, it means we don't have enough data in order to make a determination on that. But we are making um adjustments. So if you look at um across the school
036district and I look at the first benefit which is get the basics and you see that that benefit is being turned on at the intermediate school and the high school and you may say well why is that not turned on at the lower grades because those are the ones that we would expect them to get the basics. Um, it means that they are focusing certainly on getting the basics, but um, and and they're doing whatever it is that they do on the day-to-day basis to teach reading and math and science and social studies and so forth. But at the intermediate and high school, they've turned that benefit on because they're doing some very specific activities um, with students and gathering data to determine whether or not students are getting the basics. And for each one
037of these benefits, and this is what I like about this accountability process, there are these attached to what degree questions. So, I'll stick with get the basics. And it's it says for those that can't see it. To what degree do we prepare our students with sufficient academic skills to succeed at the next level? And to what degree do we equip students with the basic skills that will serve them outside and well beyond public schools. So um all of the buildings are asking themselves those questions but specifically the intermediate school and the high school are focusing on those particular activities. And then if you go um to the thing that I had sent you today um and look upstead falls high school as it relates to uh getting the basics. They say that we are establishing
038or we are embedding college and career readiness skill development into our daily academic work. We will model how to identify learning gaps and seek help with our students. And we hope to see students recognize their own needs and use support supports such as labs and resources that build background knowledge. So there's the benefit, there's the to what degree questions, and there's the specificity that each building um leadership team um sit down in groups and they develop the the battle plan essentially um in order to do that. And what I like about again this accountability model um is that it's comprehensive um it's holistic and and it's also specific to each school. doesn't mean the school necessarily can go rogue and do whatever it is they want, but it does mean that they have some defined
039autonomy with what it is that we've established as those benefits. Um, and and it's in kind of like plain sight, I guess, for everybody to see. It happens three times a year and it happens um that you can make adjustments in time to help as well. Um, so that's one of the things I just wanted to uh uh to share with you on that. Um, that's that. Uh, one of the things that we're undergoing is we're working with um Allerton Hill, Kim and I and Julianne and we'll bring in others and we're going to create a communications handbook. Um, there's a lot of different things that are contained in a communications handbook, but one of those is here are some simple kinds of ones. What is the district's font? What is the district's um what
040are the district's symbols? uh when I have a problem at exchool, what's the line of command and how do I get relief or who do I talk to for those problems? So, it specifically identifies who it is that you would go to and who you would um talk to, what are the expectations from the board and from central office as it relates to um if I'm contacted by a parent. So, I will share with you the drafts as we go about doing this. We kind of have these things already in place as a matter of practice, but we don't have them written down and I want to be able to write it down that way. Um, everybody pretty much knows what it is that what the expectations are and so we're in the process of
041creating that. Um, Brian indicated some of the central office changes that we've had. We've had some people retire. We've had some people move around. Caleb Pelco Smith um I would say is kind of like the new Deb Tracy in that she's the contact for she's the support person for Patrick and I and also for Shannon um and Heath and so she's uh supporting four different people and she's also the person that sets up uh the board agendas and does all of the things associated with the with the board as well. Um she's new um she's absolutely amazing and has a a high capacity and bandwidth to be able to get things done. So, if you ever happen to stop in and see her, she'll be the first person um that you see her, just uh
042introduce yourself and say hello if you if you don't know who she is. Um Sarah Wilson is a person who is taking over for Nancy. Nancy used to be Stephie Bradley's secretary in the student services office. Nancy um was stolen by Brian um into human resources because that's really what her uh forte was. It's kind of like what she went to school for. And so, um, she is now working in Brian's, uh, office as well. Deb Tracy kind of did some things, sort of a support person for me, but largely worked in human resources. And so, now, and Deb did a fine job. Um, Nancy, this is something that's kind of like what she's studied for. So, we're excited to have her um, in that role and she's doing a great job. And what's helpful
043is she's um helping to train Sarah Wilson who's brand new and who is now the support person for Stephanie Bradley in the student services office. And so to have both of them in house is is helpful. Um so if I see you and them the same space, I will introduce you to them as well. As it stands right now, Stephanie or sorry Sarah works upstairs, but um Nancy is down in the basement. Um that will all change hopefully sometime in April when the basement is gone and we'll be in a different work environment. But that's that. Um there's a something that we are I guess essentially applying to. If you've heard of this um excuse [clears throat] me this thing called top workplaces in Cleveland or top workplaces in the state of Ohio, excuse me.
044I believe it's a national thing as well. [clears throat] Um it applies to schools too. And so we've done a lot of work with culture and some other different things. And so um on Friday we're uh we've talked to the individuals sorry [cough] [clears throat] from our um we talked to the to the individual from um the gosh I'm sorry guys. >> [clears throat and cough] >> Hoping there's no almonds in the cake. Just kidding. >> God. >> Yeah, that's okay. I haven't had you put them in the car. I don't think there was that. That was kind of a joke. It's fine. I I will know. I will know if aniflaxia sex in. I [laughter] don't know. [clears throat] >> Yeah, I Well, I mean, I've had it like a couple different times, so
045it's okay. Um, so this top work workplaces thing, we are uh intending to to um send a survey to our staff to allow them to weigh in on that and I would like for us to get that designation if indeed the the data shows that we are one of those places that has a good organizational culture. I believe that we do with all the work that we've done with student with staff well-being and student well-being um and some of the data that we've gathered using the people bench um organization that we've partnered with. This is kind of [clears throat] a I'm not in the um banners and ratings and things like that, but something that's going to that's going to from our staff that's going to say that this is a top place to work.
046I think would be beneficial um in the in the profession that we're in right now. And I think it would be a very cool thing for us to get. I anticipate that we will um but we'll know a little bit more beginning on Friday um for that. The construction project um is seemingly on schedule and on budget. Um it's a hot mess over there. I'm not going to lie. The mud irritates me. I was very irritated with uh with things on Friday and I um asked the person who was who I don't know if it's the superintendent um that sees m oversees multiple sites but I said you need to clean up the outside because it looks pretty bad. The mud I understand a little bit and we're dealing with that. I'm I've asked them
047to drop some number one stone along the side there in order to kind of pat that down so the mud doesn't file all over the place when the cars parked in and out. Um, but drywall is going in. The roof is on. Um, they're starting to put the brick around the outside as well. Um, I haven't been able to go inside in probably about 2 weeks because it's just literally is a mud pit uh walking it. So, I need to bring some sensible shoes uh to go in um to walk through the mud to go inside. But I think that we're doing pretty well there. So, that's that. That's all I have. you have a question. Sorry that I had that home. >> I would just like to add I I whatever the time investment
048is for being best place to work, it's worth it. Um obviously teachers aren't doing it for the money and we can't offer the money anyway. So if that's something you can put your, you know, on your school's resume, I it will be an awesome recruiting tool. That's what I I think so too. Brian is Brian goes about the business of uh doing his uh recruiting show. Um I think that that would be a good thing. I mean honestly [clears throat] when I looked at the questions when we looked at the questions that were there, they're the same kind of like frame that we use for some of the other things. So the data is already there. We just need the organization that does it with other organizations to kind of you know gather ours. Okay.
049>> I said hopefully they come for pictures in May. Not April. >> Not April. >> Not May. Not March. It's >> not actually uh the survey coming out on Friday though, so >> Yeah. >> Oh, did you say when they come for pictures? >> I was joking about them seeing the central office. Yeah. >> Ah, okay. [clears throat] Yeah. >> April. Hopefully. April. Mid April. >> Yeah. >> That's it. [clears throat] >> Other questions, comments for Jeff? Thank you. >> Sure. out of order. But uh that was my fault. Our first report from our new treasur, Mr. Gates. All right. So, um I just wanted to thank you for everyone who got me to this position in the district. Uh this is starting week two, so I'm very happy to be here. My first week
050was very successful. U welcomed with open arms by everybody that I got to meet in the central office, but also uh kneedeep in payroll. So that's primarily what I've been doing. I was talking to Mrs. Lauderdale earlier today. She asked how it was and I was like, "Well, I don't think I've been able to do my official job yet just because I've been helping out my staff with payroll um and learning the ways that Homestead Falls does things." So, I'm still in the learning process, which I'm going to be for the next several months, but I'm very eager to to be here and support the district and its um and endeavors. Um, as Mr. as Brian Oh gosh, I know >> as Dr. Zeller said, we are looking for payroll person. We have about 20ome
051applicants. Uh, so I talked to my staff and we've narrowed it down to roughly seven or eight that we're going to then probably condensed a little bit more and hopefully have someone uh board approved by the end of the month so they could start sooner than later. As much as I do enjoy doing payroll, I have other things that I need to be doing. So, but also it it helps learn the processes and procedures in payroll so that [clears throat] when the new person comes on, I have a good grasp on what is going on and what needs to change. um as well as the other parts of my department as well which I'll be working on. So that's a short and sweet update but there's more to come in the next meetings when I
052have more time to really dive in and give you more of a financial update. So anybody questions >> I mentioned this to Brian NASA's is hiring act as a resource analyst which isn't exactly pay role but it's similar. So you have discouraged people that don't get the job here and they'd like to apply. I encourage them to fly past some of our civil servants directly and some of them are working for I think it's ASRC or one of the contractors. >> Awesome. I have questions. Welcome Patrick. >> Thank you. >> Look forward to you uh getting to do the CFO part of the job and not the not only not the treasur part of the job but the uh good way to learn from the bottom all the way up. Right. So >> awesome. Good
053to have you. Uh, moving on to the hearing of the public. Do we have anyone who would like to address the board tonight? >> Come on, Matt. >> Looking at the only two people that might apply to and they're both shaking their head vigorously. So, uh, hearing none, uh, we'll skip number five because we already had our cheesecake that does not contain almonds. >> We know that now. >> We knew before. We we we suspected. >> It's good. >> Uh, we'll move we'll skip six as well [clears throat] for the same reason. Okay, moving on to 7 A. 7A is the tax budget uh previously mentioned uh by Mr. Galano um and 7B is uh I will accept the motion to approve the tax budget which is listed there in 7A. >> So move second.
054>> Any discussion, questions, comments about the tax budget including from the treasur slight overview. Yeah. >> All right. So, the alternative tax budget is something we have to do every year per per Ohio revised code 5705.28. If you want to look up the Ohio Revised Code in more detail, that's the code we have to do it by. Um, we have to submit this to the county auditors by January 15th. Um it's also securing local funding to ensure that what we currently have in place with our levies. Um we are able to sustain the future and helps us with the five-year forecast. Um it's also the alternative because the other method is really tedious and it's not very streamlined. So this is the alternative budget which streamlined the the processes to make it easier for the
055the CFL treasurer and also the community to understand what it is. It's all of our funds combined. So just not the general fund and not just the levy dollars. All the funds we bring in and all the funds that we expend. So it helps us with transparency and public notice as well as if we're able to certify our estimated resources and we know how much appropriations we're going to need. Um those will always can always adjust throughout the year. Um but it helps us get a bird's eye picture of where we're going to be uh for tax year 27. and we do that now. Uh so we will collect those tax year 27 funds the following year since we're always a year behind. Um, so it helps us just identify any uh stock gaps and
056when we need money and when we're going to kind of run out of money as well as in coord in accordance with the federal forecasts which we'll be presenting on by the end of next month because those are some changes that happen with the the latest bianium budget. >> Awesome. That's great. Thank you. Any questions before we vote? Okay, let's take the vote. >> Mr. [clears throat] Mr. P. >> Yes. >> Mr. Antos, >> yes. >> Mr. Lauderdale, >> yes. >> Mr. Arrow, >> yes. Motion carries. Thank you. Um, moving on to our consent agenda. Uh, this is the aforementioned process by which we approve kind of regular day-to-day things uh that we do here in the district. uh including actions that have maybe already been taken even by the superintendent or the treasurer that
057get voted on uh pursuant to that kind of uh emergency or real-time authorization that those two offices have to conduct business. Um so with that I will take a motion to accept the items in consent agenda 8 and nine. So >> second, >> any thing you want to either of you want to call out specifically about the consent? >> I like to just a couple things. First, um, thank you for being school board members. For the two that have done it for a while and the twoeities that are coming on, we appreciate um it very much. Uh it's important for the school district, everybody around this table, um and especially Patrick and I that the school board um is a very solid group of people who have the best interest of students um central to
058them. Uh one of the things I love about this school district is that there are no um there's no there are no politics or partisansship at all. Um that you're here for the for the right reason. So, um, on behalf of a lot of different people, I appreciate you, um, for always, uh, having that first and foremost. So, happy school board's appreciation month and really you're appreciated. Um, couple other different things just to say that there's some second reading and final approval of some of the policies. They're not anything um, outside of the ordinary other than these are updates and they're really for the transportation things like drug and alcohol testing and um, alternative vehicle driver certification, those sorts of things. So, they're relatively routine, but there are um changes in order to be up
059to date with the any changes in the law. Um, as it relates to uh some of these other things, CD and E that are on here, this is to authorize advertisement and receive bids for some of the physical plant work that's done. It doesn't mean that that work is going to be done. It just means that we're you are authorizing us to be able to put that out for bid and um and receive those. Um there's a retirement on here. I wanted to point out that Jeff Co has announced his retirement. Jeff has worked for this school district for a very long time. Um is a great dude and has had a lot of uh uh leadership um positions as well as as president of the OFA and a few other different things throughout his
060tenure here. He's a friend and a colleague and um I wish him well. He's going to be he'll be missed. Um in here as well on the personnel agenda, you'll see game day workers. there's some extra support there as Rob rehabilitates uh um his knee. Um and so uh we've added that on there as one way in which to try to um help to supervise uh get additional supervision for different kinds of things. Um and that's it. >> Any questions about anything on the consent agenda? With that, we will take the vote. >> Mr. Funk, >> yes. >> Mr. Mr. Lauderdale. >> Yes. >> Mr. Antos. >> Yes. >> Mr. Earro. >> Yes. Motion carries. Thank you. Moving on to 11A. Uh we discussed this briefly, but this is the these are the hold the
061dates for April 17th and 18th for a uh partnership school board retreat with some other districts. So, um more to come on that. I I certainly am in favor of the idea and uh think that'd be great for all board members, but particularly new board members as well. So, keep us posted on that. >> It will be specifically for all. It's not a new board member thing, but it would be great. >> Yeah. Yeah. >> Yes, sir. >> Okay. >> Awesome. Uh, any other general discussion from the board? >> Uh, we have we we know February 19th is a bad day. It's going to have to move. That's currently technically scheduled for the regular meeting. I would like to consider just moving the February 5th work session date to the regular meeting if everyone is
062fine with February 5th. That way we'll have another meeting in the next three weeks or so. >> Um say that so you're moving the work session from the 5th. >> Use the 5th as the regular meeting day. >> Correct. >> And not have a work session. >> I'm on vacation. So I mean without for sure technically >> um but I will be yeah on vacation >> for the first time in forever that I take vacation during this year. So >> warm. >> Good. >> You want to doodle or you want to try and look at our calendar now? >> Let's doodle because let's think about whether we want to have the work session at all and then just pick a new February date for one meeting kind of in the middle of the month. Petra,
063are you familiar with the doodle? >> No. >> Okay. That is essentially just a poll meeting poll that Caleb will send out gathering dates for >> rank choice voting. >> Yeah. >> Well, actually you everything we put >> say when you're avail it's it's a verb. >> We can doodle the February and let the public know when that meeting will be. >> Um, okay. With that, we are going to uh move into executive session to discuss uh the process for finding our our fifth member here. Um just for the public's benefit and if you you don't know, we had a a great number of of applications. I can't remember the exact [clears throat] number 12, nine, >> I think it was nine, >> nine or 10. Um very impressive uh pool of applicants who sought
064to um join us here. Uh we were very very impressed and and very pleased with that. You're hoping to get at least one or two good ones and we we truly had nine or 10 good ones. So um we whittleled those down to uh four finalists um who met with the previously constituted board last year for an interview um at which Mr. Antos and Mrs. Lauderdale were present to observe as well. So now it is on this newly constituted board to deliberate as to who should be selected for that position. So that's what we will be doing in executive session. Now, um I would invite Mr. Golano and Dr. Lloyd to remain and join us in executive session if you'd like to stay. And with that, the rest of you can take off. >> I'll
065accept a motion to go into executive session at 7:06. >> Mr. Punk, >> yes. >> Mr. Santos, Santos. >> Oh my Santos from now on. >> Yeah, you're Santos. >> That's my warm weather. >> Yes. As long as you're curious, we're going to executive session at 7:06 p.m. >> Your response to that should be anything you say, Mr. >> Yeah. >> Just make it a hard seat rather than >> Yeah. Yeah. See you guys. Take care.
