All right, welcome everybody. We've been in executive session since uh 501 just for the public's benefit. We were uh the board was interviewing candidates to uh replace Mr. Perez once he leaves the board uh effective at the end of the year here in um 8 days. So we were interviewing candidates. Um the new board once constituted at the first of the year will um deliberate and select our fifth board member. So but thank you to the current board for participating in the interview process. Thank you to our members elect um who joined us as well to observe. So uh we will now go back into general session here at uh 6:26. Uh we did not do the pledge. We saved it for the full group. So if you could please join me for the pledge.
I aliance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands. One nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. >> All right. Thank you. We will do uh administrative reports here fairly quickly. Uh, Mrs. Ayanica is not here. Uh, she did email me. Phil, I don't have a PTA report. We did not have a December meeting. Have a wonderful holiday. Enjoy. So, there you go. That is officially report. >> It was a nice >> Was there Do you want to say that? >> It was nice launch. Yeah, it was a nice lunch at the table. So, yeah. Very good. >> Uh, players update. Mrs. Walker. >> Um, we, uh, met and, uh, Phil joined us and joined our meeting. Um, we voted voted on the
new contract for the treasurer. Got it. Bill got Phil got to enjoy a lovely holiday dinner at Claire's. >> Absolutely amazing. Like fivestar food made by those kids. It was incredible. >> It was It was so cool. So, just for the record, just to remind everybody, I will be serving as the one-year rotating member uh for Polaris because we're up for that this year. Uh, perfect timing. So, I will be serving as the one year for that. And thankfully, Mrs. Walker has agreed to finish her current term with Polaris uh for another year. So, we'll be on the Polaris board together for one year and then we'll have to appoint our next three year three three-ear term. >> It's a three-year term. >> Three-year term, but we'll deal with that next year. So, thank you
again, Kelly, for agreeing to stay on. Appreciate that. Uh, COO report. Dr. Zeller, >> it's been a busy time in our office as we prepare to transition Mr. Robson out and bring the new treasurer in. So, uh, we're excited there. We also have B Tracy's, uh, retirement and we had a resignation in payroll that we posted that position. At this time, we have nine candidates for that job and um as we get past Christmas, I'll be working with Patrick to see if he wants to bring in and begin the interview process until that open spot. And that's a position that reports up through the treasur. >> Yes. >> Awesome. Any questions for Brian? >> Thank you, Brian. Uh Dr. Goss is not with us uh tonight. Uh for the final time, Mr. Robson >> last
time. Any questions? >> We We finally got a short report out of it. Only took five years. >> I'll make it short and sweet. Then um our revenue uh is is about $650,000 ahead of plan, which is good. And our expenditure is about uh 11,000 over plan. So, uh, we're running about 639,000 today, or I should say as of month in November, ahead of plan. That's a good thing. We're what, halfway through the school year. Um, so it's a good thing. Many things can happen between now and then, but, it's good to be on this side of of the equation. And nothing uh, you know, December is not a a real active month. January is not a real active month from a financial because we're we're we're just closed for a good period of time.
So, um, it'll be steady, I think, through December, uh, and through January, and then we'll start seeing that mad rush in February and March as supply orders come in to finish out the remainder of the school year. Um, and that's what, you know, really need to kind of watch where we are, but very, very happy with where we are today. You're going to see on the agenda uh there's a tiff uh resolution uh with uh Homemstead Falls Township and and we talked about this a few times in in past meetings. You know, the township's looking to uh finance some uh some projects that they have coming down the road. And what they'd like to do is use the um projected tax collections from Willow Grove next door to us here. I'm pointing back here, but
I think it's over here. It's really over there >> over there. See, I'm I'm way I'm way turned around. Way turn. It's cold and flu season. Um but to to use the uh the real estate taxes to help pay for uh the improvements they have coming up and down Bagley Road, I believe is what what they're working on. And it it's a 30-year program. And in the end, Homestead Falls City Schools are whole. You know, we're made whole. So the first 15 years of the program, those taxes will go to the township. They'll give us 50% for 15 years. 50% of those annual collections over a 15-year period. Years 16 through 30 will get 150% of those collections. So by the end of year 30, you know, we're made whole. So it's I I think
it's just it's a nice working relationship, a nice gesture to do with them. They've been very supportive of projects we've done in the past. We're not I guess there's a variety of ways to look at something like that. We're not losing money because today you're not collecting a dime off of that property, right? So, it's it's new money that's coming in. We'll split it with them. We'll get more in the end and we'll be made whole. So, um I think it's a good deal, but you're going to see that on uh on the agenda to vote on bond refunding. We've completed that project. um that's been four years in the process as well. So, we're very happy um to have that completed. We've got a savings then, a tax savings to our community members uh
for the remaining life of these uh bonds that are out there. $1,57,92.36. So, I think that's a good a good message for us to give to the community. They've been very supportive of the schools. They pay uh you know they pay a lot in property taxes for the school to to do the things that uh that we need to do been very supportive of us. I think it's nice to be able to continue to look out for them and take advantage of opportunities as they present themselves. Patrick was involved in the end in the process with us. He went to the pricing session uh down in Steel's office. So he got to meet Bob. He got to meet Ryan Calendarer who's bond counsel. um and and to help establish that relationship and two so he
could see where we are in the process. Nothing's going to, you know, take him by surprise when he comes. Um there's going to be should rates continue to go in the direction they have been, there could be another opportunity a year or so down the road, you know. So, I think it's good that Bob and Patrick now have that relationship. They can continue to monitor that and if the time comes where there's an opportunity, you know, they can capture a little bit more of savings on there. Um, and then, you know, finally, I I I'll say from a transitional standpoint, you know, my my time is running down. I was just talking to Jim a little bit ago. It's kind of a strange feeling. You know, it's something in in your professional career, you look
forward to retirement, but then when you get there, you know, your emotions kind of take over. you got personal relationships out there, professional relationships, and and you're walking into this whole new chapter that uh uh you have no experience in. So, it's it's a little little anxiety here, but uh but we'll be good. Um I've got two days left. I'm probably going to do Friday, this Friday, and then Tuesday. I've got a couple things to cover with Kayla. Kayla will be back in the office Tuesday and we can wrap those up and I've got some documents to get down to uh Steel and and Squire so we can get that taken care of. Patrick spent three days with us so far. Uh we went through a variety of meet and greets. Let's say we covered
a lot of things that are in in process right now. So he's met Squire Patton Bogs NFP on the insurance side. Excuse excuse me. We met with Tom Kzer went over the services that he provides. We met with Meter Investments who handles a lot of our investment activity and Allen Hill who plays a big part uh for for our department. I think in the in the community um uh communication aspect. So, those were all good meetings. Uh and and I'm glad that Patrick was able to sit in and meet those folks and ask questions and they could meet him as well. As Dr. Zeller mentioned, you know, we're kind of throwing a bit of a curveball this past week when when Shawn announced that she's uh going to pursue some other interest and and Brian's
uh they posted the position. I reached out to the uh the local president, the Cleveland chapter of the American Payroll Academy. She's going to put the word out there as well. I don't know, Brian. We we I know we had a couple applicants early in the process. I didn't check to see if there's more coming in come in or not, but >> it's Yeah, it hasn't been out there for too awful long. We were just notified of that, but there is interest and we are getting the word out there. Um, and we're working on or he has now system access uh to the apps that we need um that he will need to be in pretty much on a daily basis so he can hit the ground running day one. Um, and I think I
think he's ready. Patrick's Patrick's going to be a good guy. Um, he's he's been in touch with us on a variety of things. He's wanting to learn, wanting to know, wanting to meet people. Um, and I think he's going to get off to a very good start here. So, I'm excited for him. It'll be good. Any questions? >> Every bus that you ordered come in. >> Every bus is is in. >> Every bus that has been ordered is in. >> You can retire. >> Next. >> You should have told me that a year ago. >> Yeah. the next order we'll participate in and Heath Heath and Patrick will talk through this with Sean um in the spring uh is the next uh consortium order that'll go out and those buses will come in over the
summer, you know, July, August. They're they're back they're back to their normal build schedules now after what 18 months waiting for for buses uh for for a terribly long period of time. So, they're back on schedule. We'll get those ordered. I went through how we've handled bus uh bus purchases in the past. He may have a different taste. I don't know. But uh but he knows there's options out there. And he knows who the players are uh to make that happen as well. So >> Brent, you must be excited to retire. This is the loudest I've ever heard you talk. >> Yeah. >> And maybe you have a cold. >> I have a cold, so I'm trying to project spreading it all. Who are you one of? >> I speak up when there's good news.
>> Thank you. >> Other questions for Brett >> for the last time? Well, we've we've said it uh a hundred times and we'd say it another thousand if we had the time, but thank you for your service to the district and you came in at a really really weird time. uh and you are certainly leaving the place much better than you found it, which is all we can ask for all of us, right? So, uh thank you for everything most not not the least of which is helping us uh find your successor, which I know we have a good one in Patrick. So, uh thanks. >> We can absolutely thank Mrs. Parkowski for your employment. She was the one who said we should we should interview this guy a second time. I'm like, no, we're
not. I say every time >> you were right and I was wrong. >> There was It was down to him and there was a woman. I can remember I like the woman. >> It was great. That was great. >> I think she took my position. My my prior position if I'm not mistaken. I think >> she got a job. That's great. >> She's still there. She's still there. Um but no, thank you. This has been, you know, and I I appreciate you, you know, uh, make taking that action, I guess, is what I'll say. This has been personally and professionally rewarding to me. I've met some wonderful people here. You know, you mentioned Linda and John's right there, too. John's been on the finance committee. Um, and and just, you know, good people, good people
here at Homestead. I've really enjoyed it. Very thankful. >> I mean, if you are feeling a little anxious, there is a payroll POSITION OPEN. RETIRE. REHIRE, >> you would be given to you a secondary. >> That's probably that's probably not good. >> Is it like some like phone interview you have to do first? >> Expedite the process. >> Well, thank you. Best of luck in retirement and don't be a stranger. You're always welcome. >> Congratulations. >> Thank you. a doubtful. >> WELL, that Dr. >> You know, I don't really have just because there's uh it's December 23rd and um there's going to be some cake and other kind of announcements and things. I don't really have a whole lot to report on unless anybody has any questions. Um for me I did want to prior
to getting to thanking you know outgoing board members just wanted to thank um Brett for his five years of service to the school district. I've this is my 32nd year and I think I've worked with like seven treasures. Five of them have been in Homestead Falls and Brett um has been absolutely solid and as you indicated Phil whenever he came to us we were in a very precarious situation and we did not show him um the bank account as far as how much was in there and thankfully um he still took the job and uh um you know I was obviously rooting for him the whole way and so um I thank you for the professionalism and the friendship and everything else. Um hope to continue to uh to talk to you and and kind
of learn about what it is that you're doing uh with your free time now. So, I just thank you so much, Brad, for everything. >> And there's if I could there's two things I remember about my first day. Coming in and seeing the board office, which I can't forget that. >> Can't forget that. >> That's why we did the interviews here. >> And then it was looking at in the accounting system the first day and gone through and looking at that cash balance. I'm like, "Yeah, that's real." >> Yeah. You're missing three zeros, right? Or two at least. Nether system I'm unaware of. >> Right. Yeah. So, um yeah, I don't I don't really have uh anything. Does anybody have questions for Jim? While we have um turning to the hearing of the public, does
anyone in the public have anything they'd like to address with the board other than the informalities we shall have here in a moment? Uh so before we uh before we take a mo a motion to uh adjourn for a few minutes and have some cake, uh just want to say uh thank you um bittersweet day for losing uh Mr. Perez and Mrs. Walker and Mrs. Newman. Um you know, I came to the board six years ago uh and was a fairly unknown um quantity to the community. Thankfully, people knew my wife and they like her more than me anyway, so that helped. Um, agreed. Nobody will that's a 100% hit rate on that one. Um, but thankfully uh Mrs. Newman uh took a flyer on me and uh not only you know picked me for
that open spot, but has been a mentor to me for sitting in this chair for a couple years now. And I I'm so glad that you gave me and us a little bit of a runway to let me sit in this chair while you were still here. Uh because if I was doing it without you here, it would have been tough. Um, so I value all three of you as as friends more importantly than colleagues, but uh, extra soft spark for Mrs. Newman um, forever. So, um, thank you all for everything. Let's, uh, I'll take a motion to adjourn for a few minutes here. 15-minute recess to have some cake and punch and say more nice things about these great people. >> Second. >> I think we can voice vote this one. All in favor?
>> I. Any opposed? None. Take a break at 6:44. >> Was there a thing? >> Where's the check? >> Our uh our departing board members, we we appreciate you being here. Uh we'll come out of recess at 7:02. Um and we will move on to our consent agenda. uh which you have consent agenda items 7 8 9 and 10. I'll take a motion to approve the items consent agenda 7 8 9 and 10. >> So move second. >> Second. >> Any discussion comment? Fin comment thank you to the uh Homestead Bulldog youth football program for donating tackling pads to the varsity program uh which were like $2,000 worth of so thank you two >> huh >> two get you two thank you very much >> are those those things that like look like people or
something >> no they're uh 6 feet by 10 ft and then 12 in thick so they're like you know especially when you're teaching to tackle each You can drop onto it. >> Fall back. >> Those are a thousand bucks a piece. >> Yeah. >> Expensive. >> Well, thank you very much. >> Any comments or questions about any of the items in the concept? >> I wasn't sure if you saw that um in the certified area that Tracy Blake's retirement is in there. >> I did. I mean, everybody's >> Should we pull it? Because I don't want >> I personally asked if you would stay there to Mike to high school. >> So, I feel like I was a little bit lied to you. >> I'll pass that on. >> Okay. For sure. I just I
just wanted to acknowledge that everything else is relatively routine there. There's that. There are some changes to the um admin handbook that's in there. Um Dr. Goss could not be here tonight cuz she has a sick child, but there's a second reading and final approval of the high school program of studies as that's um that's in there. Um so that's I think the two highlights. >> Yeah, majority of them are kind of annual renewal type agreements. >> Okay, with that we'll take a vote. >> Mr. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Newman, >> yes. >> Mr. Perez, >> yes. >> Mrs. Walker, >> yes. >> And Mr. Road, >> yes. Motion carries. Moving on to 12 A. This is the resignation letter from a Jim Lloyd. Uh would you like to say anything more about this? >>
You don't have my my letter. Is that my letter that you have right there? That's a different letter. >> Yeah. Um you know I during the hearing which was on December 14th and nobody was there I guess to kind of offer anything or um oppose it. which are those things that you uh are concerned about whenever you start to come to these sorts of conclusions. But I and I was talking to both Linda and John prior to you know there's certain things that happen in your life um and one of them is health and happens to like one of your siblings who uh a brother had to get um like a liver transplant just like Bernie Kosar and was like store and so when those things happen to you um you start to take a
look at things differently and so for me um and those are times I think when you start to think about your family and act a little selfishly um they change retirement rule several different times. It's 32 years. I have 32 years in and so I feel that it's a the right thing for me is to access my retirement. Um I'm not done working as I indicated to you guys. Um and I'd like to finish my career in in Homestead Falls. So I appreciate um being able to negotiate a contract um that that will do that for me and for the school district. So, my intent is to fulfill the next 5 years and be your superintendent and, you know, continue to work as hard um as as I've worked uh in the past. So, I
I appreciate um the vote confidence um after you vote yes for it. So, thank you. >> Thank you. Well, there there's a lot of uh a lot of things that the folks in Columbus throw at us that we complain about, but uh you know, this will end up having been a a positive both for you and your family personally and and a net savings for the district. So, a true uh win-win. We were going to hopefully have you for five more years anyway. So, we're just going to do it a little differently and save some money along the way, which is nice. So, with that, we'll move to 12B, which is a resolution to approve the retire rehire contract of Dr. Lloyd as superintendent for Homestead Falls for the next 5 years. >> Second. >>
Any comment, discussion on that? It would be more fun to accept the resignation and then take a vote on the rehire. Put it a little >> Oh, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Do we have to do that? >> I don't think we have to accept. We don't have to accept anyway. >> Brad, do we have on the other? >> Yeah. There there's a contingency. It's fine. The way it was written by the >> comment question. >> I'm I'm just reiterate what you said. Good for you. It's great for us. And um I'm happy to um that this was a fine thing that I can >> I'm happy it's one of my we heard from although the meeting on December 4th was not uh heavily attended uh we did hear from a few members of the community after
this was posted and all of which was very positive supporting uh keeping you around. So um just know that uh with that Mr. Mr. Robson, call the vote. >> Mr. Funk, >> yes. >> Mrs. Newman, >> yes. >> Mr. Perez, >> yes. >> Mrs. Walker, >> yes. >> Mr. Reville, >> absolutely. Yes. Motion carries. >> Congrats. >> Yeah, that was a weird >> That was kind of a weird pause. >> A weird pause, Bob. A weird pause. >> It was so fun. >> Wish you too. Yes. >> Uh agenda item 12 C is approving a resolution uh regarding the uh tax exemption uh the TIFF that Brett described in his report. I'll accept a motion to approve that resolution as set forth in 12 C. >> So moved. >> Second. >> Any discussion on 12C?
>> Mr. Robson, when you're ready, >> Mr. Font. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Newman. >> Yes. >> Mr. Perez. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Walker. >> Yes. >> And Mr. >> Yes. Motion carries. >> Thank you. Uh, moving on to 12D. Uh, this is uh round two of the Newman Crest Family Fund uh donation uh donating uh a second round of amazingly $25,000 toward the cyber security program here at the high school. Uh we said it last time and we'll say it again and we'll say it forever. Thank you to you, your your family for um you know continuing to give back even in you know your final moments officially with us. Uh we know you'll be unofficially with us forever, but uh in your final moments officially with us making this kind of a gift uh
for such a cool program that we're all very excited about. So um I don't know if you'd like to say anything about this. >> So there so there's been some cool developments. Yeah. Um they're not done yet, but hopefully like it it will. So um my husband David, his law firm it like he's getting rid of like all their computers now. they have like all um laptops and um so his IT guy knew that David and I were you know had part of this program for the cyber security and he's like does that as well and he's like hey we have all these computers we have 55 computers that are like wiped clean perlite United States defense like they're like certified ready to be used somewhere would your cyber security program be interested in these
computers? So, I'm like, I don't know. So, you know, David's like, take the computer. I'm like, I I can't make this decision. I'll have your guy send an email to you, forward it to my schoolboard email. Anyway, so I think yes, there's interest that they're going to take some of the computers that would be useful for the kids to like load up with viruses or take apart and figure out how I I don't know, Jim, >> David and I were talking about that just moments ago. So, we're going to work on that because people are obviously, you know, out right now, but we need to talk with our tech director. But, but yes, >> very much appreciate that. You know, and I also recall that um when you had Davis chatted with us some point
throughout this year, we were talking about like our business curriculum, you know, outside of school, it's Microsoft, it's not Chrome, right? It's not Google, right? And you know, but we can't afford as a school district to get >> Microsoft licenses, >> right? And these types of computers. That's why there's Chromebooks. I don't know if if if the people who are in charge here think that they could utilize 55 clean computers, we're happy to facilitate. So anyway, um I encourage everyone like um yes, this is a large donation, but any donation to the school district is always great like you're football and we appreciate that. So um >> thank you. >> Awesome. Thank you guys so much for for that. Thank you to uh >> Yes, it wasn't just me. It was Mr. afternoon as well.
And >> thank you that thank you guys so much. We we we take that. >> No, thank thank you. It's been an honor um doing what I've done for 12 years and um as I said before, if I would have just done a little bit every year, it would have added up. But yes, a big thing at the end is bringing back >> has to be you have to be dramatic all the way. >> Unbelievable. >> Yeah. Yeah. Trust me. >> NO, I THOUGHT IT WAS CUZ V said, "You should do the check." And when he walked in the truck, I'm like, "You got to be kidding me. That sounds dumb." But it's >> in the words of >> awesome. Thank you guys so much. Uh item 12B is uh discuss a board member to
act as president prom at the January 12th organizational meeting. It's for the public's benefit. Um when the new school board convenes at the beginning of the year, you have to appoint somebody ahead of time to serve as the president for the purposes of kind of getting the meeting off the ground and getting people appointed and sworn in. Uh you need to do that ahead of time. there will only be uh one person on the planet who is actually still sworn in as a board member come January 12th and that's Mr. Funk. So uh I I think by law it absolutely has to be him. Uh unless anyone has any strong reservations. I think he is staging a coup and I got to tell you I got to tell you if he thinks I'm going to
fight him'll be the easiest coup in the history. So, uh, Mr. Funk, thank you for serving in that role. >> It's already gone to my head. >> Stephen, >> like it's an uncharter like this is never I say this all the time like I hate it that this is what's great about school board for you new members is there's always something that you've never done before. You think, oh, after 10 years like I've done it before. No, there's be some around the corner like this. Like most of the board being new like Justin, you are, you know, the only ones it's worn in that, you know, we've never done Oh, you have to be >> I'm starting a term. It's literally >> We've never done this before, >> but that's what keeps the job accepting
>> mostly. >> Awesome. Thank you. Uh 12F is to discuss uh appointment of the Polaris uh rep reps or just me just me for the one year term rotating. Um obviously I indicated I'm happy to do that and look forward to doing it. Um I don't think that requires a vote. Brett's saying no. So >> we can just acknowledge it as an appointment. >> Yeah, I think it's really an appointment just like the delegate thing would be their OSBA >> Southwest general. >> Yeah, same same situation I believe. >> Yeah. So happy to do that. Um, and then our organizational meeting is scheduled for January 12th at 6 p.m. I will be there. Mr. Funk will be there. Mrs. Lauderdale and Mr. Antos hopefully will be there, too. Um, >> Holly and I are going
to go to dinner that night. >> Yeah, you guys. >> I don't know. I might be in MY PAJAMAS. >> OKAY. THE WEATHER'S BAD. I'LL go laughing. That's right. >> So, we will uh we will see you then and reconvene. Um, and then Brett, there's a also we have to have a tax budget hearing uh at that January 12th meeting. Do you need to say anything about that? No, >> I was going to say that's uh you know those those announcements have already been made uh publications out there, but that will be prepared for uh Patrick prior to him coming. He'll have, you know, some time to review it. If he has questions, we can work through that, but it'll be ready to go for him. >> Okay. Uh and then we have our 2026
meeting dates. We'll get an email circulated with uh Amy and Patrick and Justin, myself to make sure those dates look good. But uh we'll start on January 12th and then we'll have February 5th and February 19th just for the first few so everybody can flag that and then moving on finally to general discussion of the board. Does anybody have any general discussion? >> Thanks everybody. >> Pleasure. It's been an honor It's been an honor. >> Yeah, for sure. >> I've seen board members come and go and every one of them has been >> incredible. So, >> even when Well, yeah, except for Yeah. >> Listen, I guess maybe you didn't know. I mean, literally, I I was like, we we're not going to Why should we second interview this Brett Robson guy? You're like, we
should do we we should >> just really cuz I can't believe how them out. >> Yeah. >> Putting a weird amount of emphasis on that. >> I thought that was so wrong. >> We don't want the old guy. >> Nobody said that. >> That would be illegal. >> Nobody said that. >> No, I can't. >> The employment lawyer is going to stop shut this conversation. >> You know, that just shows there. You got to work together because that's what we did. can and and I'll add too, you know, in whatever it's been 25 years in in schools. This is a very unique board here and and there's been turnover in the in the seats and and it has just remained very positive, very supportive, and that's not the norm out there. You know, I just
I want you guys to know that you work hard, you're informed, you're in tune with what's going on, you hold people accountable, um but in a very professional and supportive way. And that's I I just got to say I have to say that's not that's not typical. >> Yeah, >> I'd reiterate that as well. Just um it's uh and there are there are people out there who would who would have um partisan positions uh for board members. And I think one of the strengths of my time here and witnessing multiple school board members is the fact that yeah, everybody is from a different not everybody around this table are from the same political party, but um partisan politics are never here.
