001I think you >> I said you're a soft single section and we code it out. >> Yeah, it's great. >> All right, let's call the meeting to order at 602. >> Mr. Robson, when you're ready, please call. >> Mr. Renro, >> here. >> Mr. Funk here. >> Mr. Zuman, >> here. >> Mr. Please stand for the pledge of allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands. One nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. >> Thank you all for being here. We have a lot of really exciting stuff to get to tonight. Um, with that we're going to kick it over to uh Arthur. Do you want to give us a quick intro for >> I can I'll give you like a very
002quick intro and and say that this is uh Miss Roberts who is the head of uh of our entire band and music operation at Bolstead Falls High School and she contacted us and said there are some students that are working on a piece of music. So do you want to say one thing? >> Yeah, sure. Sure, sure. Sure. Um you're going to recognize this music. Um it's very familiar. This is Dance the Meritans by Chakowski. Um these ladies um participated in solo ensemble last year and this was one of the pieces that they're playing. So we're going to jump right in and then Mr. Kaser has hit another little performance for you and uh he'll explain. >> Okay. >> Thank you. >> And then they're going to run out of here because they're also going
003over to do the flight tonight. Okay. >> Double duty. >> [music] [music] >> Woohoo! [music] >> [music] [music] >> Woohoo! [music] >> [music] [music] >> Oh yeah. [applause] Great job. Thank you guys. >> Thank you so much. >> Good luck with the uh play. I can't wait to see it tomorrow. >> I feel like this one's going to be louder. >> Yes. >> So, yes, these earplugs. Um and there's another bag of them. Do you think we'll need some body or are you just like being very >> um Well, okay, let let's talk a little bit about this. Okay, so [laughter] >> um so what this group is behind me is a a style of music from Brazil called Samba Bataka. Um Brazilian samba, you'll hear about samba dancing or samba singing. Um this is
004samba drumming. Um they will have these huge parades down in Brazil. um giant kind of like our Marty GR parades. You'll be big floats and um dancers and things like that. But in these parades, I can't even imagine. So, it's going to be loud in here. We have earplugs. But those drum lines in Brazil, they will have like 500 drummers going down the street and 200 dancers and some of them are on stilts and like huge big floats. And that's just one school samba team. There's, you know, I don't know, 20 or 30 different samba schools with thousands of people in them. This is our little abbreviated form of that. Um, still very loud, promise you. Okay, let's talk about some of these drums that we have here. So, in this front line, um, going
005from my far right, >> we have a chicare. It's a gourd with beads on it. Give it a shake. Okay. Gourd with beads. Next to them, we have two tomb rims. A larger tomb rim and a smaller tom. Ethan, give yours a tap. Look at Leah's drum. How cute is that? [laughter] Right. Give it a tap. >> Oh, okay. >> Kind of loud. Cute though. It's loud. We have the agogo bell. It's like a double cowbell. A high and a low sound. Go ahead. Very fun. Back here, these two to my right are playing snare drums. Can you guys play your pattern for them? Ready? Two, three, ready. [music] Over on my far side there, Mr. Robless, we have these timba drums. You play them with your hands. Noah, can we play and snares play
006together? Ready? Two, two, ready. And [music] >> [music] >> Now, one thing we've left out and you also have a special guest, too. >> Special guest. >> So, the last three drums, floor toms, are referred to as sdos. And the sdos are the bass drums. They're in one of those 500 piece drum lines. There's a hundred sdos. Imagine getting paraded down the street and there's a 100 bass drummers behind you. That would make me move out of the way. Let's hear what these sound like. You good, Gra? >> Yeah. >> Cool. Ready? Let's try it. Serves two. Ready? Go. [music] Keep going. Here we go. No. Two. [music] And stairs. [music] Stairs. THREE. >> [music] [music] >> OKAY, HERE YOU GO. A little audience participation. This is fun. Repeat after me. They'll help you out.
007Ready? [music] >> [music] [applause] [music] >> Heat. HEAT. [music] HEAT. [music] HEAT. [music] HEAT. [music] [music] HEAT. [music] [music] HEAT. HEAT. [music] >> [music] >> HEAT. [music] HEAT. [music] HEAT. [music] HEAT. [music] >> [music] >> HEAT. [music] HEAT. >> [applause] >> Thanks guys. >> Awesome. Thank you guys so much. I didn't use earplugs. I didn't use >> what you say. >> And the small brought back for my young children. >> Oh, smart. >> Great. Wonderful. >> Yeah. >> We'll all be doing that on our steering wheels on the way home. [laughter] >> That was awesome. Thank you. >> All right. Well, the first >> that was very cool. >> Yeah. sticking with the uh AAA team from the arts to the academics. Do you want to introduce our >> Yeah. So um Mr. Spagnola and
008company are going to come up and he's going to introduce and talk about the um National Merit Scholarship semi- finalist and commended students. So Mr. Spangola, >> what was kind of cool is for everyone to see a little bit of Robbie's passion, right? When we when we talk about teaching, the art and science of teaching, teachers ne need to naturally demonstrate enthusiasm for what they're doing. Clearly, you got to see that on display, which is magnified that into the engagement side of the kids. So, kind of cool little bonus there. Maybe I can skip my board presentation next month or in two months. >> No, that does not. >> So, anyhow, um because of who we're recognizing and why we're recognizing them, I actually put some thoughts down because of the decorum. uh and really
009to distinguish their accomplishments on the academic side as Mr. Elen Ekenro said um first it's a pleasure to welcome all of you and recognize an exceptional group of students for their remarkable academic accomplishments in the national merit scholarship program. Tonight we honor three students who entered this prestigious nationalwide competition by achieving an extremely high score on the NMSQT test which is part of the PSAT SAT process. uh their successes place them amongst the highest scores out of over a million. I'm going to say that again. A million kids nationally that have entered this competition uh who took this across the country. Uh this achievement is a testament to their dedication, intellectual curiosity, and hard work throughout their high school careers. Dr. Wood, I'm going to say this with the most endearment. Neither of us probably
010would have qualified in the top 3% or 1%. Um and I think we're pretty smart guys. Uh but you guys um have have set the bar extremely well. First, I'm going to recognize two students for the National Merit Commended students. Uh this designation places them among the top 3 to 4% of all students who took the test. So, think about that. You're in the top three to 4% of a million plus kiddos. Really impressive. Uh it's a significant honor that distinguishes them on college applications and highlights their potential for success in rigorous college selection and then courses. probably most likely part of the honors program to wherever you guys go. So with that, I would like to take a moment to recognize Arjar Das and Oliver Pelmet Crane. So you guys come on up. You
011guys stand next to me. I'm going to play with you. [applause] [applause] Yeah. So congratulations. Turn around so parents can get a picture real quick. Smile. I don't All right, real quick. um favorite course at Old City Falls High School or the hardest course you've taken and then I have your list of colleges and they're absolutely amazing but maybe that one dream college that you hope says yes to you because I know the process is still unfolding. So RJ Arj we'll start with you. >> Uh hardest AP chemistry favorite AP calc AB. >> Awesome. And college of choice if it it tells you yes. >> I have no idea. >> All right. Well, according to what I pulled out of Naviance, Carnegie Melon, Cornell, uh, Georgia Institute of Technology, John Hopkins, Miami University, Northwestern University,
012Penn State, Purdue, Sunny Burmingham University, the Ohio State University, University of Akan, Cincinnati, and so on. Sound about right? Or did you just lie on your ass? That's all good. All right. And then Oliver, favorite class and then hardest class, and then maybe that college, and if they open the door, you're going to walk through it. Favorite class I've taken is probably calc 3 that I'm falling to take through tri and hard is definitely AP. >> Awesome. So both guys don't like science but they've tooken it. The reason he's in calc 3 is he he tested out of algebra 2 coming into high school and then we ran out of high school courses. So we got to figure out like what to do with a kid like this when we get creative, right? And so
013um thanks for making us work hard, I guess. So congratulations to these two. So, let's give him one more round of [applause] applause. >> Oh, where do you want to go to school? >> Notre Dame. >> Like the Notre Dame. [applause] Yeah. I hate their football team. [laughter] >> Go that way. >> Listen, we're under construction. Serious construction. Stay around because we have one more coming up and we'll do a whole group wherever Kim wants them. And then moving on to the next level in the competition, we have what we call the National Merit Semi Finalist. Um, which we had one student that qualified for that. Uh, this student represented the highest score entrances in each state, placing them in the top 1%. uh their performance not only recognizes their exceptional ability but also qualifies
014them to continue in the competition for roughly about 7500 national merit scholarships. So real dollars tied to their to her accomplishment. Uh to advance to the finalist standing they must maintain a high academic record and complete a detailed application. So your final uh transcript does matter. So you got to keep playing the game with us. And so with that, I'd like to call Eevee Peton up front. [applause] Round of applause. What what I will tell you with these three kids, I've been here a long time now, 7 years. The three highest GPA I have seen at Homestead Falls since we've been here. Um, and that's before all the C tag and all those changes. But big picture wise, these kids are wicked smart. Um, so with that, Eevee, um, I know your choices of college,
015but I have the list if I need to help you. But hardest class, favorite class, and then maybe that college that opens the door for you and you say, "I'm 100% want to go there." >> Um, favorite class probably AP Chem. And then hardest probably AP physics and college probably Michigan. >> Awesome. >> Also hate their football team. [laughter] But as soon as she said it, I was like, "Go Bucks." Right. So, let's give all three of them a round of applause. [applause] to do a group picture if you want to like reposition yourself. But Mrs. Patrina, where do you want them? >> I got to give you this. Hold on. >> Thank you. >> Get one of us first cuz I I cleaned up. [laughter] One more time FOR THESE GUYS. [applause] THANK YOU
016TO YOUR FAMILIES for being here. I know you're all very proud as you should be. We are very proud of you. >> You guys can feel free to leave. We have a lot more to do. You're staying will not offend us. >> Wow. I really twisted your arm. [laughter] You failed the test all of you. >> Good luck everyone. [laughter] >> Thank you guys. >> All right, moving on to our administrative reports. Uh, this is PTA. >> All right. um update you on our membership news. Um currently our early childhood PCA is at 41 members. Uh false lanox is at five five calls on CPTA is at 531 members. Uh ECC has 100% staff participation and membership and fonox is 85% or higher. Um, as of our numbers the beginning of November, Office is at
017300 and they only need 15 more staff members to reach 100%. So, I'm really proud of them. Middle school is at 257 members and 100% staff membership. And the high school is at 264 members with also 100% staff uh membership. So, they really units really worked with me. My goal was to try to get as many 100% or as close to 100% by October 31st and um our amazing council membership chair Amy Lauderdale really worked with all the membership um chairs throughout the unit to achieve that goal and to achieve many Ohio PTA awards which I will discuss at another meeting. Um, I want to spotlight on our OACPTA and their recent Razles night out fundraiser which was just this weekend. Um, it was blast. I attended it. It was a great time. They sold
01875 tickets which is huge. They raffled off 40 baskets and that's including um Cavs uh game tickets, uh, Raising Canes, Chick-fil-A, um, dumpsters. Somebody got a dumpster dumpster thing. That was really kind of cool. Um many many other super local and more to Northeast Ohio as well. Their 5050 total was $930 with a payout of $465. They completely sold out two sets of $5 sideboards and their total that they raised was $4,267 for OEC and toward their scholarships as well. So congratulations to President Tara Haw and many of the committee members of Candace Bloom uh Chrissy Feron Pett Lisa Sheay and Christina Pascaru along with many many others including their spouses, family and friends. So it was a great night and very productive. So that's my report. Does anybody have any questions? >> Wonderful. >>
019Awesome. Thank you Joy. >> Appreciate our PTA so much as always. Thank you. employers update. >> Uh we have we don't have a meeting in November. Our next meeting is in December where we will have our holiday dinner. And as of right now, it the plan is for Phil to be the rotating seat for a year and then I will stay on to complete my term three years. >> You guys will need to make I mean I I will fill out the form for you. I think you need to make it sold by um >> Yeah, they need to know by >> knowing that >> they want to know it by the December meeting. Um I told Diane >> I did as well as you had to fill out the form. >> Yep. Absolutely. >>
020So Phil will join me in the Polaris 15 pounds that you will gain in [laughter] >> Kelly. One of the things that um Diane also shared with me today was the uh kind of like the rewrite of the strategic plan and there's a ser a stakeholder survey that they're going to send out and then I'm going to send that support that and send it out to staff and others as well. So I think that's a um that's a good idea and we want to try to do our part to help them with that too. So officer and thank you for continuing to uh build the remainder of your ter. We have a lot of change coming up in the next few months so it's nice to have one Uh, cool. Anything else? Any questions? Okay,
021Dr. Zeller. >> Hello. And thank you. Um, we've been super busy. Uh, we've had a lot of change, but as you alluded to, um, we pending your approval tonight, we were able to, uh, secure a network coordinator. Um, we're thankful to be able to work with OBC to that position for the district to find someone who can kind of take care of our infrastructure. Um we have a person who's excited to join the organization and uh again pending your approval we're happy to have him. Um we are going to we talked to Kavanagh Photography about extending our photography contract with them. Uh we've been pretty pleased with you know what they've provided the district. It's been a good partnership and feel pretty less than happy with what they've done for us. So, we're excited to
022keep that going. Uh, while we were down at Capital Conference, I met with the various vendors who uh offer access control systems. Not sure if people are aware, but our access control systems around the district are pretty old and are operating on um old software that's tied to specific computers. cloud-based systems. So, we are um you know kicking around the idea and trying to get close to see what would work for the district and obviously what's responsible there. >> Um >> Brian, just so you could not not to shock and all, but I mean that's going to cost >> 2 million 200,000 >> 20,000. >> So, it'll make it sound so much better. >> No, it's it's about $25,000. Okay, see it's not so bad >> to update all of our systems. But when I
023say we're working on antiquated software, we have buildings operating on software from 2010 for our access control systems, which doesn't seem like that long ago, but in technology land, um, it is. And the fact that you can only work on certain computers to, uh, program badges, it's it's pretty intensive. So, we're trying to find something that makes a little bit better sense and gets us a little bit more up to date. Um, sorry, I lost track. Okay. Uh, lean six sigma. So, we've talked in the past about this is the first time that we've offered um the green belt to the cohorts. Um, last week Leo and I and the lane six sigma group, we were able to go to Vitamix for a tour. Um, that was a blast. The kids seem to really enjoy
024it. Uh, I would tell you that I loved the tour, but there were things going on where I didn't actually get to go on the tour.
