001Oh, thank you. So fine. >> Good evening and welcome to the May 21st, 2026 Fairfield City School District Board of Education meeting. >> Mr. Phillips, would you call roll, please? >> Mrs. Birdie Miller, >> present. >> Mr. Clark, >> present. >> Mr. Klein, >> present. >> Mr. McDonald, >> present. >> Mr. Napier, >> here. >> Mr. McDonald, would you uh lead us in pledge of allegiance? If everybody would stand, if you're willing and able. I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands. One nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. >> Thank you, Mr. McDonald. >> Presentations and resolutions. Mr. Smith. >> Yes, Mr. Clark. Members of board, we have one presentation scheduled this evening and that is a school spotlight

002on Compass Elementary. And before I turn it over to our principal, Mrs. Lambert, I just want to thank all of our staff and our students that are here this evening. Uh when we scheduled this a really long time ago, we didn't necessarily plan for this to be on the last day of school, but that's how our board meeting schedule uh worked out. So, big thanks to everyone uh for their willingness to show up here this evening after the very exciting last day of school. So, having said that, I'll turn it over to Miss Lambert. >> Good evening to the board. Thank you for having us. We're super excited to be here on this last day of school at 6:30. No, we really are. We are excited though to be here tonight. As was stated, my

003name is Asia Lambert. I'm the proud principal here at Compass Elementary. And this is I am Jenny Willut. I'm assistant principal here. And this evening we are bringing to you some composers in the classroom. So I will turn it over to our amazing music teacher, Mrs. O. All right. Hello everyone. My name is Adele. The students call me Mrs. O. I am the music teacher here at Compass. This is my fifth year. Um to preface what we're about to do. Yes, this was given to me last week and I was told to come up with a presentation for the board of education. And the first thing that I'm thinking is, "Oh my gosh, I'm going to have to get all 60 chorus members here to put on a show at 6:00." 6:00, not 6:30. I

004was told sick. Um, and I did freak out for a second, but then um, our admin told me that it could it doesn't have to be a huge performance. It could be something great that we do in the classroom that can show a connection between music and um social emotional learning, which I had a perfect lesson. So, I got some students together and um that's what we're going to show you today. So, one of the goals for my fourth grade students that aligns with state and national standards is to be able to compose simple songs using notes they know. In music, my fourth grade students compose all year long in various ways. I create interactive lessons that integrate music, composition, instrument playing, and social emotional learning needs allinone. In this specific lessons, students find a

005safe and calm spot in the music room where they compose a 16 beat song on staff paper using three notes they've learned how to play on the recorder thus far, which was B, A, and G at that time. They can play the song while they write it and make adjustments along the way. It is their composition. They are in charge. They make the rules. On the back, they are asked to tell me who or what they are dedicating their song to. This could be as real as they want or as simple silly as they want it to be. The only rule is that they have to tell me something about themselves. They can color in the smiley face on the bottom of the paper, which will communicate to me that I can share their composition

006with the class, or a sad face, which tells me that their composition will only be read and heard by me. Being the music teacher at Compass, I have the opportunity to teach almost 800 students in one week. As exciting as this is, it makes it so hard to create a relationship with each and every student like a classroom teacher would. I find the activities and many projects like these really help me to personally get to know and connect with my students while giving me a chance to assess their composing skills as well. I have learned some very amazing and interesting facts about these kiddos that I did not know. It was great to see how they opened up and trusted me at the end of the lesson. So today I have three students here who

007are kind of going to reenact this lesson that we did in the pre um previously in the year and they're four uh three fourth grade students. So our lesson a little looks a little like this. They compose in the front and then they write me a little something in the back. Uh so we have Phoenix first. Uh Phoenix's composition has a smiley face on the bottom which tells me I can read it. And she wanted to dedicate this to her loving, caring mom. >> Yeah. Oh, yay. >> All right. So, uh, 16 beats and Phoenix wrote this and she's going to play it for you. Thank you. Okay, our next one is from Eve. Come on up. And Eve also has a smiley face and she's dedicating it to my family who always supports me.

008really nice. And finally, we have Gavin, who didn't really want me to read this. I had to like pull his arm a little bit, but he said, uh, this is about his favorite ride at Kings Island, the Orion, because it's so fun. >> Nice. >> And, um, Gavin did choose to also put in, uh, 16th notes. We could do quarter notes, but if you want to get a little zesty, we do 16th notes as well. Go ahead, Gavin. Great job. So, these were pretty um funny and real. Um, and I just like to end with a couple years ago, uh, I think it was my second year here. Um, a student who never really said anything to me, was quiet in class, uh, we did this lesson and he wrote a song and I took

009them home to grade them. And on the back, um, he wrote that he was, and this was okay to be shared, so I'm sharing it. He said, um, I'm from India and my dad and I moved here recently, and my mom is still there working, and I haven't seen her in 6 months, and I really miss her. and you can share this with the class. So, I just wanted to let you know. And so, um, what he didn't know is that I actually moved here when I was six years old from Turkey. And I haven't seen my mom in years either cuz she moved, she lives there and I live here. So, uh, the next time I had him, I took him in class and we had a chat and we both cried and we

010both hugged it out and, you know, um, he's now in middle school and ever every time I see him, we will always have that connection going on. So, um, you know, a 40-minute lesson can make a lifetime impact, I guess. >> Yes. >> Thank you, kiddos, for sharing. >> And happy last day of school. You guys want to bow? Great job. Thank you. >> Thank you. as board member comments. >> Yeah, I think it's great that uh Phoenix Eve and Gavin come out here and do this in front of us. Uh they didn't seem nervous at all. Must have a really good teacher. >> And what a great lesson that that addresses the whole child. I love it. you know, the emotional connection, the the connection you get to have with students, the things you

011get to learn from them on it. You guys did a great job making your your songs, playing your songs. Like, I was a little nervous for you cuz that that's that's tough. You guys did a great job. Thank you for doing that. Um, you know, again, very creative, personal. Um, I like that you guys gave a little bit about your life and why you did the song. That's that's really cool. Great job. >> Yeah. Yeah. Let's move on. >> Yeah. I just want to say congrats Gavin and Eve in Phoenix. Great job. Thanks for being here on the last day of school. Hope it was a great school year. Uh Mrs. O. I have an inspiring music teacher uh sophomore just finished her sophomore year in college. And I I look at you and and

012the other music teachers that I've met here and I I just hope she ends up like you guys having an impact uh on the kids uh through music. So, thank you for all you do and thanks for being here. >> Yeah. Um, I want to thank um, Miss Lambert and Wilcott for bringing us here and and sharing your school and your students with us. U, Miss O, thank you so much for being a teacher in our district and can making those small connections with students. Um, because it is a big task when you have so many of them cuz unlike the regular traditional teacher, you're not with them for a long extended period throughout the whole day. Um, so thank you for finding activities like this that makes you uh, have that impact and that

013connection with them because it is important that we connect with all of our students. So, thank you so much, Gavin. Even Phoenix, thank you so much for coming and and performing for us. That is no easy task. And especially the fact that you created the music that you then wrote or that you then performed for us. That's amazing. I've never written any song and I was in band for 10 years. So, good job. Um, and then just quick question, are do you guys do the belt system? Yeah. What color belts are you guys? You're on purple. >> So, the board members that might not know this, cuz I just found this out this week from a friend of mine whose kid goes to another school district. Uh, the recorder now uses the belt system like

014karate. >> So, you start with I think orange. >> Yeah. So each time you learn more notes, you go up a belt and so based off of how what belt color you are is how many notes you know. So that's really cool. Good job guys. Purple is not an easy feat. So great job. I hope you guys continue on and you take some lessons like this with where you're creating something and then producing that for others even if it's not music. So thank you so much and I hope you guys had a great school year and thank you for coming back to school after the day was over at the last day of school. Good. >> Yeah. Miss Lambert, Miss Wilica, thank you for hosting us and sorry it was the last at the last

015minute, but you're awesome. Thank you. And Mrs. O, thank you for what you do for the children, the students. It's it's amazing. And of course, this is all about u um Gavin and Phoenix and and and um Eve, thank you for coming back. And um I can't even play the radio, let alone a recorder. So kudos to you. And Gavin, you had that upbeat. That was that was really cool. and the fact that you had background like Mr. Klein said to go with your music and then meeting to that to highlight your parents who love you very much and brought you back here at 6:30. Um, we really appreciate you doing that in front of us because as a couple said, it's not easy. And, uh, this is just a step towards as you get

016older and go through grades and hopefully continue on with your talent that that God has given you with playing music, reading music. Reading music, that's a language and and that's a language not too many people can can speak. Again, I can't even play the radio. So, good for you. Thank you for coming in and thank you all for the presentation. IT WAS WONDERFUL. INTERESTING THAT YOU said it was a language because it is almost like a universal language because I believe music is the same written regardless of where you are. >> Correct. >> Yeah. Yeah. >> Thank you so much. >> Thank you. >> Looks like that is it for the uh presentations. We move into communications. This is a portion of the meeting where you the community is invited to share your thoughts with

017the board. In order for the board to fulfill its obligations to complete a planned agenda in an effective and efficient fashion, a maximum of 30 minutes of public participation may be permitted at each meeting. Please know that at this time at this time has been set aside for the board to listen to you. Your comments are valued and will be taken carefully into consideration. The board will not engage in dialogue at this time. Presentations are limited to three minutes each and Mrs. AG is our is our time counter. So, she'll hold up three different uh uh papers with a countdown for you. So, uh looks like we do have two people signed up and thank you for coming and signing up. We have Steve Heiser. Is that correct? Steve, if you want to come on

018up and it's on um encouragement, I believe. Yes, I'm sorry. To the podium and you can move the microphone wherever you need it, sir. >> Thank you. >> It'll just be a second. I wanted a a vote of encouragement. I know you just went through some troubling times and uh it uh it has to be uncomfortable for you, but I want to encourage you to do something innovative rather than just cut cut. Uh there's something new out there and you have an opportunity. AI is for more than just cheating students. It can also be to your advantage and I encourage you to look forward to what can we do with AI and along with some of your cuts, maybe a little extra cut so that you could sponsor some of this innovation and teach Ohio

019how to teach kids. This is a a leadership uh district and I think you have an opportunity here to lead even more. Good luck. >> Thank you, Mr. Heiser. Okay, it looks like next up we have uh Paul Yak on the levy on the earned income tax. Good evening. Um I'm here to speak about the uh election on May 4th. Um certainly it was disappointing for the Fairfield City School District to lose its second attempt to acquire additional funds over the last three years. In addition to a 20-year district resident, I'm also 21. This I'm fishing my 21st year as a public school teacher. I've been through many levy campaigns. I have seen many levy campaigns fail. Um if this levy campaign fails in November, there's going to be some very catastrophic cuts and consequences

020for the district. And I think that it's very important that some form of a review needs to be taken. I would say from my perspective, the district employees voted, their families voted, the Tempo Club voted, the PTC voted, uh, senior citizens that saw the card that say, "Vote yes and you won't raise your taxes voted." And that was 6,100 votes. My fear is that if you ran that again, if you ran that campaign again, it would fail again. Only because I think that a lot of the proess is already baked into the cake. Here's my thought. and suggestion. Um, I don't want to see the levy fail a third time, but I also know this district and I know the people that live here are very taxed out. In Fairfield Township, we just approved 6.5

021mills. We got a police levy on the ballot. People are hurting. Gas is $5 a gallon. So, if you place something on the ballot, I would hope that you would take a look at the previous um uh election results around the state. Only six of 24 income tax results passed. Of those six, the only one that passed locally was mine healthy and that was threequarters of a percent. I'm not saying that's what you have to go with. I'm not saying what you have to go with at all, but I would hope that you would really take a good hard look at the temperature of the district and the state beyond maybe people that show up to forums like this. There aren't too many people that are going to come here and maybe say anything less

022than positive and glowing things, but I do think that it needs to be really taken to heart as to what the voters are kind of saying. I and I'll wrap up with this. I do want to see more money. I' I've been I I've spent 21 years doing this. I don't want to see mass cuts. I don't want to see uh kids not have music programs or band. My son's graduating Saturday, too. He's getting a a scholarship to write state. I And I have another son that graduated from this district. I don't want to see it destroyed. But I also know that you have to present something that 50% of people will vote for. And that's my concern. And I hope that you take this into account when you go into your deliberations putting this

023on the November ballot. Thank you. Thank you for coming. Appreciate it. >> All right. Superintendent recommendations and reports. >> Yes, Mr. Clark, members of the board, Mr. Hustle will be covering the items listed under personnel professional and personnel support. >> Thank you, Mr. Smith. Mr. Clark, members of the board, I have three items for your consideration this evening under personnel professional. Number one, resignations, letters A through C. Number two, unpaid leaves of absence, letters A and B. Number three, employment letters A through R. That concludes all the items I have for your consideration under personnel professional. >> Get a motion to accept these recommendations. >> I'll make a motion. >> Second. >> Mr. Napier, Miss Birding Miller. >> Mr. Phillips, you call roll, please. >> Mr. Napier, >> yes. >> Mrs. Bing Miller, >> yes.

024>> Mr. Clark, >> yes. >> Mr. Klene, >> yes. >> Mr. McDonald, >> yes. >> Mr. Mr. Clark, members of the board, I have four items for your consideration this evening under personnel support. Number one, resignations, letters A through C. Number two, unpaid leaves of absence, letters A through D. Number three, employment, letter A. And number four, correction, letter A. That concludes all the items I have for your consideration under personnel support. >> Motion to accept these recommendations. Please make motion. >> Second. >> Mr. McDonald, Miss Mr. Klein, Mr. Phillips, you call roll, please. >> Mr. McDonald. >> Yes. >> Mr. Klein, >> yes. >> Mrs. Burning Miller, >> yes. >> Mr. Clark, >> yes. >> Mr. Napier, >> yes. >> Motion passes. >> Mr. Clark, members of board, we do have several items for

025board discussion this evening. Our first two items uh are in regard to school fees as well as an emergency closing plan for continuity of learning. This time, I'll turn it over to Mrs. Al. >> Thank you, Mr. Smith, Mr. Clark, members of the board. I have uh two very familiar items tonight. Uh my first item is student fees for 2026 2027. Uh this is an item I share each year around this time and changes to fees are mostly impacted by curriculum adoptions, changes to selected novels, workbooks or programs. So once approved, these fee lists are posted on the district website. Um I sent you an email earlier this week so you could review all the changes. Those are very uh big documents. Um, this will be on the June 4th agenda for approval. So, unless

026you have any questions about those changes, I will move to my next item. Okay. My other item tonight is the emergency closing plan for the continuity of learning. Uh, the plan is in your board packet. Uh, I also emailed this to you earlier this week. Uh we have to approve this plan each year in order for the district to be allowed to use three online learning days as calamity days. Uh these days would only be used after our calamity days accounted for in the calendar have been used and uh this plan would be on the next board agenda uh for your approval uh because it has to be approved every year before August 1st for us to be able to use those days. >> Nice. So, uh, any questions about the emergency closing plan for

027the continuity of learning? That just rolls off the tongue. >> Good. >> Okay. >> All right. Our next three items are in regard to a po potential change in date for the July meeting, the closing of some accounts, and a CRA agreement. At this time, I'll turn it over to Mr. Phillips. >> Thank you, Mr. Smith, Mr. Clark, members of the board of education. Uh, the first item is in regards to our July board meeting. We have it currently on the schedule for July 9th and I will be in Gulf Shores, Alabama with my family and um and we need to meet uh at some point in July sooner rather than later. Um especially as we consider a potential ballot issue for November in order to meet the deadlines and requirements that are are required

028by the state and um the county. And so I would propose July 16th at which is the next Thursday. And I wanted to propose that to all of you this evening to see if if that works for your calendars and if not as an alternative July 23rd uh would be my next recommendation. Both are on Thursdays of the next two Thursdays. Didn't know what worked best for all of you. Any comments on 16th? Good. >> I'm good. >> Mike, I'm good. >> Mr. Klein, >> $16. >> 16's fine. 23rd I'm not available. >> I'm not either. And I think somebody else might not be. So >> awesome. >> Looks like the 16th is a good day. >> Thank you. I appreciate that. Next, I wanted to talk about the closing of inactive student accounts at

029Creekide that I'm going to ask you to approve later on in the agenda. Um, as I mentioned earlier this year, my goal was to get out and meet with all of our principles when we were talking about our budgets. And uh, myself and Diana Weekes, my assistant treasur, we were able to do that over the last six weeks. And one of the things that Creekide brought up to me um was their 200 accounts which are student activity funds. And there are several accounts that have that have been in existence but have not been uh I guess in existence on paper but have not actually been in existence you know with students actually joining the club for many years. According to them, those clubs are drama, newspaper, foreign language, reading activity, drug-free school, uh, dance line,

030and awards/rewards. Um, sometimes these clubs take different forms, shapes, and and they become different clubs. And so, while they don't exist as called previously, um, they may still exist at somewhere throughout their student activities. But what the reason I say all this is that they each of these clubs have had money sitting in them uh for several years and they're they're not being used. The clubs are no longer in existence. So, what I would like to do is close those clubs, uh, those line items and then roll them into a general student activity account where our principles can use those to, for example, uh, right now the National Honor Society uh, club, well, not club, but the miscellaneous expenditure account and as well as the LEGO robotics, they're both a couple hundred in the red.

031uh the funds from these will be used to offset those negative balances and then any other negative balances or funds that are struggling over the next few years. So I wanted to just explain that to you and why that's on the agenda and why why I will be asking you to approve uh the closing of those student accounts. Any questions on that? Okay. Thank you. The the uh next item here, I communicated to you probably two weeks ago, I think. Uh but the Butler County Trade Center Community Reinvestment Area Agreement is going to be up for approval later on in the agenda as well. Uh and I'm going to ask you to approve that to fit the timeline that the city is going after. I think the city has it on their agenda for May

03226. Um but essentially, this is one of the CRAAS that the city brings to us. It aligns directly with the uh the compensation agreement guidelines that we have with the city. Uh the the good thing on this again a lot of times these agreements get have a negative connotation in the city or anywhere um because the school is taking less dollars. But I I want to remind the board that in law they can abate 7 up to 75% and give zero dollars to the school for up to 10 years without any school approval. Okay. Our guidelines with the city say that we will get at 32% of that abated amount. And that's what we are doing with this this deal. Uh it'll generate once it's on the tax roll it'll generate about $360,000 for the

033school annually that we would not have been getting previously. uh when it's finally you after the 10 years of abatement, we'll be generating over a million dollars annually on that property. So, it is a good deal. We do uh we do take less than what would typically be owed if it was on on the full roll to begin with, but again, it probably would not happen without the the assistance and the help of the city and the school district. So, is a little bit of a double-edged sword. Mike, I see you have a question down there. >> What's the CRA? >> It's a community reinvestment act. Okay. Okay. It's it's an abatement. Um there's two types of abatements. You could they could either do well typically industry could either do a tiff or we could

034do a or they could do a C ask for a CRA and this is just one of the tax abatement avenues that they can use. >> I think >> a lot of us aren't as intelligent as you so I didn't know what a CRA was. >> I just live in it every day. So my apologies for No. Well, the CRA uh was brought into effect uh a few years back that communities would bring in uh other parts of the community that to be active within the the the city itself, not just in Fairfield, but throughout Ohio. >> Okay. >> Yeah. Um I think this just shows the Goya, as someone might say, uh the the collaboration between the city and and the schools again and and Billy's always done a good job uh being a

035liazison for that. Really a catalyst to get that started also with the the township too. But the city is a big part of that um partnership that allows us to do some things like that that is money we would most likely never have. >> Absolutely. And you know there's a lot of places that'll would just say hey you can do up to 75% without any school approval and the school will get zero dollars. We're just going to do that because that's what's allowable. And so I again what you said and I know I've said it in the past I appreciate the the the cooperation and the partnership with the city to to hold people to that line. >> Yeah. Yeah. For sure. >> Mhm. Yeah, thank you. >> Just a logistical question. Um, during that

03610 years, um, is that on the school to have to remember to collect or is that something that's automatically happening? Cuz I I know there's more than a few of these and I'm just I was just curious. >> There's a little bit of both. Um, on some of them we have to actually invoice and and we we this will be one of those that we'll actually invoice. Others actually are paid to the auditor and the auditor reimbures us. Um, but this is one that we will invoice. >> Thank you. >> Mhm. >> All right, Mr. Clark, members of board, I do have one item for your consideration under letter D, other item for board action. Number one, recommend approval of the following board policy, letter A. That concludes the items that I have for your

037consideration this evening. Okay. Thank you, Mr. Smith. Mr. Phillips, thank you. Mrs. Z. Thank you. A motion to accept these recommendations, please. >> I make a motion. >> Mr. Napier, >> second. >> Mr. McDonald. Mr. Phillips, you call roll, please. >> Mr. Napier, >> yes. >> Mr. McDonald, >> yes. >> Mrs. Burning Miller, >> yes. >> Mr. Clark, >> yes. >> Mr. Klein, >> yes. >> Motion passes. Treasurers recommendations and reports. Mr. Phillips. >> Yes. Thank you, >> Mr. Clark. Members of the board, I do have several recommendations this evening. Uh my first recommendation is letter A, the approval of the minutes from the April 9th, 2026 regular meeting and the May 7th, 2026 work session meeting. Uh letter B, which is approval of the financial reports as submitted. Uh letter C recommend approval of

038the closure of the following inactive student activity accounts at Creekide Middle. That's the drama, newspaper, foreign language, reading activity, drug-free school, awards, rewards, and dance line. and then approving the establishment of a general student activities fund account authorize and authorizing the transfer of any remaining balances from the closed accounts into this uh newly created account to be used at the benefit of the students. The total dollars being transferred is $2,966.58. Letter D, recommend approval to declare the consolidated list of surplus library books from Crossroads Middle School as obsolete and no longer needed for educational purposes with an estimated total value as presented in authorized the donation or disposal in accordance with district procedures. Letter E, recommend the approval of the Butler County uh trade center CRA, school compensation agreement, and related CRA resolution with the

039city of Fairfield, Butler Tech, and Career Development Schools, and North Point Development LLC, and authorize the board, president, and treasure to execute all necessary documents. Letter F, recommend approval of a supplemental contract for Lexi Trentman in the amount of $150 to be fully funded by the Fairfield Prevention Coalition. This supplemental is for serving as a chaperone for a youth conference on June 5th, 2026 with the payment processed through Fairfield City Schools. There is no cost to the district's general fund as a Tempo Club will be paying that. Uh letter G recommend approval of a supplemental contract for Tyler Hines in the amount of $460 to be fully funded by the Tempo Club as well. Uh this supplemental is for and let me go back to letter F. The Tempo Club does not fund that. That's

040the CARA grant that funds the uh Fairfield Prevention Coalition. Got a little ahead of myself. Uh Tyler Hines $460 supplemental will be funded by the Tempo Club. This supplemental is for 2026 winter percussion instrument with all payments processed through Fairfield City Schools. Again, no cost district's general fund. Letter H recommend approval of supplemental contract for Will Van Verth in the amount of $460 to be fully funded by the Tempo Club. Uh this is for 2026 winter percussion instruction as well with all payments processed through Fairfield City Schools. Again, no cost to the district's general fund. Letter I, supplemental contract for Ed Wooten in the amount of $1,175, which will be fully funded by the Tempo Club. And this is for piano accompanyment uh for the 2526 showquire competition season with pro payments being processed through

041Fairfield City Schools. Again, no cost to the district's general fund. Uh letter J recommend approval of the following donations. $500 from Reading with the Red Hawk program to be used to purchase new materials for the East Elementary Library. A donation of $300 from Crystal and Michael Bradley from money raised by Xander Bradley's lemonade stand at the Spring Craft/ Vendor Show to purchase items for East Elementary's sensory room. A donation of $75 from Sandy Stegman to be used towards the Central Elementary facility dog gamma. Uh, number four, a donation of $250 from Gold Medal LLC to apply to a senior at Fairfield Senior High School who has outstanding school fees. Number five, a donation of various science lab equipment and instructional materials valued at $2,000 from crayons to computers for use at Fairfield High School. And

042number six, a donation of 50 Bibles valued at $1,000 from Crossroads Church for use in the high school course literature literature in the contemporary American world. Um, total donations for 2026 are $5,925. Then letter K, all of the items listed for disposal from technology on the next several pages. And I did have a a board member ask if I can explain a little bit about this the disposal process um here in Fairfield. And so I just want to talk a little bit about that if I can find my uh notes on this. So when we dispose items and and specifically I'm talking about the laptops and the iPads you see here most of the time the iPads are a little different but all of the laptops we use all of those laptops that are either

043out out of warranty or out of date we use those for recycled parts first. Okay? And so we use the screens, the tracking pads, the uh keys, all of those things as spare parts because believe it or not, kids damage laptops occasionally. Um and so we use those for spare spare parts and when those are no longer uh viable for us, then we put them up for disposal. Uh that is the same way with most everything. And in a lot of cases when we can resell, if they are reusable for uh resell, we do that through uh an auctioning process and uh and then if they are not, you will see them on the board agenda for uh disposal. So any questions on that? >> No, thank you. >> Okay. Thank you for that elaboration.

044>> You are welcome. And I think that's the end of my recommendations. I think it is motion to accept these recommendations. >> So moved. >> Second. >> Miss Bing Miller, Mr. Klene. Mr. Phillips, call roll, please. >> Mrs. Bing Miller, >> yes. >> Mr. Klein, >> yes. >> Mr. Clark, >> yes. >> Mr. McDonald, >> yes. >> Mr. Napier, >> yes. >> Motion passes. Assistant superintendent recommendations. >> Thank you, Mr. Clark. I have just one item for your consideration this evening under personnel professional number one, employment letter A. And that concludes my item. >> Very good. Thank you so much. Motion to accept this recommendation. Please. >> I make a motion. >> Mr. Napier. >> Second. >> Mr. McDonald. Mr. Phillips. You call roll, please. >> Mr. Napier, >> yes. >> Mr. McDonald, >> yes.

045>> Mrs. Burning Miller, >> yes. >> Mr. Clark, >> yes. >> Mr. Klein, >> yes. >> Motion passes. >> Committee reports. Mr. Klein, legislative updates. >> I do not have any updates for us today. Um, a lot of things going on, keeping an eye on things, but uh, no updates for tonight. >> All right. Well, thank you so much. Butler Tech, Miss Abby Birding Miller. >> I did bring my notes this time. >> Oh, good. >> So, uh, so many of you may know or may not know that Butler Tech just had their graduation Monday night. Monday night, 8:00 p.m. Yeah. Evening. Evening. um at 8:00 p.m. Um, and just real quick before I get into some of the information about that, uh, it was really cool because I believe Cole Rain also had their

046graduation that evening in Kentucky and Butler Tech had a bus the students from Cole Rain's graduation back up to Xavier so they could be a participating in both graduations. So, I thought that was a really cool thing that they were able to do for their students. Um, before I get into once again more of the weeds and information about it, uh, the other board members who are new to being board members in general or just, uh, being new to the graduation process, uh, kept asking like, "What are all these gold robes? Who's yellow? What school's yellow?" Because all the students at Butler Tech graduation wears their school graduation robes that they get for their home schools. And I was like, "Oh, well that's Fairfield. that's all of our honor, that's our sumaka coladis and stuff

047like that. And they're like, "Oh, that's really cool that your students wear gold when they're part of the uh higher GPA." I was like, "Yeah, I know. It's a really cool system." So, I got to like kind of have like a little cool rep that like our students get to be honored um for such achievement at our schools. And that's something that not a lot of the other schools or none of the other schools that are part of the Butler Tech uh community do. So, um cool to that. just real quick. So, they had over 600 graduations and I don't know if this is normally how Butler Tech does it, but I'll have to ask. Um, but it was kind of like Fairfield was like the opener for the Butler Tech um thing because uh

048the national anthem was played by a Fairfield student, Nathan Barkley, who's in the music program graduating. And then the master of ceremonies, Audrey Allen, he was the master of ceremonies. So he introduced everybody and he kind of set the tone and gave a little speech. Um, and then I got to do the infocation. So I thought that was all very cool that like Fairfield kind of had like a beginning spotlight in the beginning. And once again, I didn't ask if they rotated or if it just happened that Fairfield so excellent that we got to hold the honor for those three positions. >> Golden. >> Yeah, we were golden. Um, but I thought it was really cool and it was cool to see uh a different graduation. Um, they were also able to keep it within,

049you know, a two-hour time frame. Um, so because I was like, look, if Fairfield can do it in two, you guys can, too. Um, and I want to thank Billy for coming and supporting the students. Um, because Billy was out in the crowd on that evening. Uh, then secondly, uh, just a cool homage or a cool recognition is that, um, two Butler Tech members Uh, we received information today that they, sorry, I got to pull up my notes on my phone. Uh, um, that two members of the Butler Tech Administration um, received a state of Ohio ACT Excellence Award. So, Brett Gaido, who is the current B board president, received board member of the year. And then Tony Huff received administrator of the year. >> So >> excellent. >> Yeah, >> it's pretty exciting stuff.

050>> Very exciting. >> Well, thank you so much. Excuse me. Student achievement, Mr. McDonald. Yeah. Uh again, it was only two weeks uh in between board meetings, but there's so much. I'm like I I sip through these and I I could do like 20 of these, but I I try to keep it to a minimum. Uh so, first of all, congrats to Mackenzie Shanklin. Uh every time I see a name that I'm very very familiar with, I I get super excited. But she's from our girls lacrosse team. Uh she was named athlete of the week for the week ending May 10th. Um just kind of uh separate from that. I love it when coaches uh use words to describe our student athletes. Things like heart, confidence, grit, leadership. Um cuz these are the things that

051extracurriculars can help establish in young people uh that serve them beyond just the athletic field, but really serve them in life. So, um just again the things that they can learn um outside the classroom through opportunities that are given through the school. So, congrats Kinsey. Uh congrats to uh junior or I guess senior now. Today's the last day of school. Um senior to be u I hope I got that right. Uh as well as his social studies teacher Stacy Robinson who were recently selected to p participate in the 2026 Bezos scholarship program. Uh they will be a part of a cohort of 12 upcoming high school seniors from across the US. So one of 12 um right out of Fairfield uh which includes an all expenses paid trip to the Aspen Ideas Festival in Aspen,

052Colorado uh where they'll participate in leadership training, talk with global leaders and network network with their peers. So very exciting um for our students. And then another familiar name, uh, somebody I I think I've named twice in the last few months, uh, senior Nihar Patel, uh, yet another major recognition. He will actually be featured on the cover of the Wall Street Journal. Wow. Um, going to be flown out to San Francisco for a professional photo shoot and interview with the editorial staff, uh, focusing on his journey, passions, leadership, and impact on others. So, another amazing opportunity for u a Fairfield student. Uh so speaking of former Fairfield students, if you didn't see this, um and uh NIL money has been in the uh news a lot lately. Um but a former student, Ray Coney, uh

053came back to Fairfield and turned some of his NIL money that he's receiving from his uh college uh scholarship for football into two scholarships that he awarded to seniors, Kennedy Oendorf and uh Jakai Akbar. So, first of all, congratulations to the recipients, but a huge thank you to Ray for coming back, giving back to the community, um, and recognizing two uh, deserving student athletes. I thought that was just super cool. Um, and kind of speaks to what Fairfield continues to mean, uh, to our alum, uh, even after they leave. Uh, and finally, just want to say a huge congrats to all 800 plus of our class of 2026. I'm going to go ahead and name them all. important montage here. >> That's right. So, uh, buckle up. Uh, seeing the videos of the senior walks

054though, um, for those that show up to, uh, video those, I I just think that's the coolest thing. And I know it means a bunch to uh, the students that get to return to their elementary schools and, uh, walk through the halls and high-five the kids and see their former teachers and, uh, all that. So, uh, just super proud of all all of you and I look forward to celebrating with you on Saturday morning. So, that's all I have. >> Very nice. Thank you, Mr. McDonald. >> Yeah. Parks and Wreck. Uh, that would be me. Um, we have uh Wednesday's farmers market has started up. So, if you have not been to that, I encourage you to go. Lots of great food, snacks, uh, crafts to check out and buy. Uh, Friday is our uh,

055movie in the park. It's the movie Up. It's a pretty good movie. I think I heard the other day that movie is 17 years old. >> Who knew? I guess we don't know. Saturday's opening day for the aquatic center and actually Friday also the uh uh splash pad at Harburn Park opens up. So, lots of ways to get wet. Um Mr. Hustle Sup. I mean, standing up on paddle board yoga is it's called Sup. I figured since you like goat yoga, you might be interested in that as well. That's that's coming to um to the Marsh Lake also July and June and July. So, more to come on that if anybody else wants to join Mr. Hustle. Um it's really only all we have. >> Is it required that you just go around and say

056sup to everybody that you pass while standing? >> I think so, cuz that's what they have. Sup yoga. Yeah, >> that's what it's called. So, yeah. >> Do Do the paddle boards come with a tow strap so Mr. Oswel can tow me back to shore? >> I will I will have to look into that. I'd appreciate it. >> A literal toe strap. Yeah. That's all I have for that planning commission. Mr. Smith, >> there is nothing to report from the planning commission. Uh their next meeting is May 27th. >> All right. Thank you so much. Announcements. May 22nd, 2026. Last day for teachers. Uh May 23rd, 2026. Big day, big morning, graduation, excuse me, at the CentaS Center, Xavier University. June 4th, 2026. Board meeting, work session, 6:30 p.m. at Fairfield Senior High School, Katherine

057D. Milligan Community Room. Board member comments. Mr. Naper, you want to go first? Yeah, I want to thank the uh three students, Phoenix, Eve, and Gavin, for playing their flutes for us. As music teacher Adele does a great job. Uh I want to thank our two speakers that were here. We need to have more speakers at our meetings to discuss publicly with how they feel. Uh disappointed we don't get many. Uh you mentioned Ray Coney. Uh we got to watch him play for four years. Great young man. And last but not least, I'm going to wish Abby a happy birthday. >> Thank you, >> Mr. CL. >> Oh, my turn. All right. Um, thank you again, Miss Lambert, Miss Willut, Miss O, for the the presentation tonight. Um, it's always great to get out in

058the schools and see what's going on in classrooms. Just visit the schools. Um, just see all the things that are going on in around the building. know it's the end of the year, but you know, it's great to see um in the different buildings just artwork and things like that that's up. And then the presentation tonight was awesome with um you know, Phoenix even Gavin, thank you for for doing that. It's uh it it's it's tough to do that. That takes a lot of courage. So, great job doing that. And uh it was it was really fun to learn about that lesson. So, what a great great presentation for us tonight. Thank you for that. Um thank you, Miss OG, Mr. Phillips for all your work on the the different things we have going on.

059Miss Hower for the other things on the the agenda there. Just appreciate all the hard work that goes on behind the scenes, all of the information that we get ahead of time so that we have time to review it thoroughly look at it, ask questions, just really dive in to know what's going on there. It's it's very fortunate. I feel very fortunate to be able to do that and thank you for pro providing that information to us ahead of time. Um, also want to shout out to to Rey. Um, you know, I know I know Kenny really well and Jakai really well. I've seen both of them over the last several years um put in tons of work to their craft and and what they do and and it's awesome to see one of our

060own come back and invest in the future of kids leaving leaving as well and moving on to the next step. So, you know, great honor and welld deserved. So, >> McDonald. >> Yeah. Uh, I just want to thank uh, Miss Lambert and her staff and certainly the students uh, for hosting us here in their building. Um, it was awesome. It's always awesome to have the students come in and showcase something um, that we've seen at other buildings, but uh, certainly tonight with their flute playing and uh, can be very nerve-wracking, but uh, they they uh they did great. So, uh, thank certainly thanks for uh, coming back, especially on the last day of school. they were ready to get out of here and I'm sure but uh they came back and and did that for

061us. Um just want to also say uh thank you Mr. Phillips for always entertaining my questions and always entertaining my uh recommendations and uh educating and some of that just comes from you know this is my first year on the board. Um, I'm still learning quite a bit of uh kind of the way things operate um in in a district, not just here, but just in general uh in terms of public school finance. Um, and so a lot of times I'll ask questions because I want to know, but I also ask questions because I want it to be out in the public because if I don't know, I'm sure there's many others that don't know. Um, and some of them are uh innocent questions and like where does this like when do we choose to

062dispose of something versus sell it? um you know cuz that's something that um you know I think community members have a legitimate question on um in terms of hey is there a way to get some funds for some of these things. So we do explore that we do explore reuse. So thanks for um always entertaining those questions and and uh having thoughtful answers for that. So uh just want to say congratulations to the staff uh all the teachers all the students. You made it to the end of the uh school year. As Mr. Smith will say there's no more sleeps there. >> It's done. So, uh, congratulations on on, uh, completing yet another year and, uh, look forward to graduation on Saturday. >> I want to thank again, um, Miss Lambert, Lil Kai, uh, for

063bringing us here. Um we love going on the road as we say uh because it it definitely gives us more um insight and more touch base with the students and the schools and you know seeing what's going on. Um Miss O, thank you so much for being part of our district and you know teaching our students and connecting with them and and bringing Phoenix Eve and Gavin in to perform for us. Um, once again, I got to say like super impressive that as young as what, fourth grade, that these kids are getting up in front of complete strangers who they think are super professionals and, you know, talking or playing in front of us. Um, it's really instilling like leadership and confidence in them at such an young age. So, I think that's great and

064I love that we do that. Um, so thank you so much for having us. Um, thank you Mr. Heiser Hower Heiser and Yuckle for coming in and um speaking with us. Uh as Mr. Napier was saying like it's important that you guys come and talk and we want to hear from the public you know like I would rather you come and talk to the full board than you know stop one of us in in in the shopping center or something because you're talking to the board and giving your perspective to all of us so that we can then make more educ educated votes and make sure that the public remains educated on um what decisions are being made and how they're being made. Um so thank you so much for coming and speaking. Um, and

065also thank you for staying for the whole meeting. Um, that's wasn't required and we appreciate you doing so. >> Um, I want to thank the administration team. Um, as always, you guys do an amazing job. You know, little shout out to Miss O and Mr. Phillips for your um your board agenda's meetings tonight. Um, cuz you guys are always so great about getting us the information early so that we can be, you know, informed before we get to the meeting. So, I'm not sitting here reading this six pages trying to figure out what I'm actually voting on. So, I appreciate you guys getting that information to us early. Um, Mr. Hustle, the school's over, but it's not over because this is just the start. You know, this is where the real not the real work,

066but like this is when you're getting elbow deep because you're starting to hire. So, thank you so much for the work you're about to continue to do between now and the next school year, making sure that we're keeping our students um educated and getting best the best staff we can. So, thank you so much for the work you're about you already have done and about to do for our district. Um, super excited for graduation on Saturday. I'd like to see the 9:00 a.m. versus 8:00 a.m. That's one extra hour. I will not be late. I will not be walking in as we walk in or snuck on the stage from the back. I promise I will make it on time this year. Um, and if you don't make it on time, by the way, if

067you guys didn't know, our graduation is livereamed on the Xavier website. So, you can go to their website and watch the live stream if you don't have tickets or it's recorded and you can go back and watch it later. I found that out. Fun fact, uh that's how I got the students names cuz I left my actual notes at home and made notes in the parking lot. Um, congratulations to all of the staff for another best year ever. I I hope that everybody has a safe summer and that everyone has a great time. Congratulations to the seniors who are literally getting their diploma on Saturday and I look forward to seeing what you guys do. please come back to our district and and you know make sure you're keeping us informed about all the great

068things you guys are doing because we love hearing success stories um about once they leave like Ry you know coming back and giving back to the district even if it's just an email or coming back and go touching base with your elementary schools or high schools. Um and I'm so glad that I never have to follow this guy uh because even in committee reports he always ends in with like goat therapy and yoga and what's up. So, I'm glad that I get to go before him. >> That's a very old commercial. You know that commercial. >> I'm not that old. >> It's just Sup. >> Yeah, I get it. This is Sup. >> Sup. >> Thank you, Miss Abby Birding Miller, birthday girl. Um, yeah. To all the admin, Mr. Smith, thank you for a

069great year and and your leadership here. Uh, to all the admin that sit up here, the senior admin and out there, thank you for what you do. uh for sending us the the information uh throughout the week so we can review it like we should be doing and and so we're ready to make those decisions. So, thank you for being diligent with that. Uh teachers, staff, bus drivers, custodians, maintenance, all you all y'all all all y'all that's everybody, right? Uh really appreciate everything that you do. Uh students, you know, they they see you day in day out and you may not think that they're paying attention, but they do. and how you act, how you uh um identify yourself, how you um how you present yourself both physically, mentally and and all the things. They

070they see that and they know they can come to you. And that's one thing that I think this district does really really well is our staff comes around the kids in a big big way. No matter what part of the district they're uh the the the employees of Fairfield City School District's in, they support kids in a big big way. So, thank you very much for this year. Um, Mr. Heiser, thank you for coming tonight. We really appreciate your encouragement. U, Mr. Yakal, thank you for coming up and speaking as well. Um, thank you to Miss Lambert and Miss Willott for allowing us to to come in on the last day. Um, you did a great job with your presentation. Um, and and to the students and Mrs. Zo, thank you. That was that was

071amazing. Um, again the recorder I know I had three kids that came through here and I heard Hot Cross Buns every other every third year over and over again for about a month and it was amazing. So glad to glad that the students know that language of music and can use that skill, that talent and that gift as they grow older. So um, graduation is is Saturday morning and it is going to be a a great day. It's a great celebration for these students who've worked very hard for 12 years to get to where they are now. And uh some of them go into the military, some of them go to civic service. Some of them go uh into the labor workforce. Some of them go on to college. Whatever you do, you're going to

072do great at it. So have a great summer. Have a great graduation. Be safe at the parties. Remember, you have to live out the next day. And you're showcasing to the younger students how to do that. So make good choices. That's all I got. Uh we'll um recess to executive session to discuss court action 121.22 G3 pending or imminent litigations the discipline and compensation of public employees 121.22 G1 motion to move to extended extended extended session motion to convene to executive session. >> Miss Abby Bernie Miller second >> Mr. McDonald. Mr. Phillips, call roll, please. >> Mrs. Burning Miller, >> yes. >> Mr. McDonald, yes. >> Mr. Clark, >> yes. >> Mr. Klein, >> yes. >> Mr. Napier, >> yes. >> Motion passes. 7:25.
