I'd like to call the public schools regular meeting for Tuesday. Our first order of business is we're going to reflect on a moment of silence. So if everyone can take a moment, please a moment of silence. Um not just for reflection. Please take a deep breath and think about this question. How can I serve my community today with compassion, integrity, and purpose? Whether it's through our roles as educators, leaders, neighbors, or advocates, each of us has the power to make a difference. Let's take a quiet moment to reflect on how we can uplift those around us and lead with intention. Mr. Mask here, Mr. Parker here, Mrs. Harwood here, Miss Barnes. You would stand. One nation individual. educational opportunity motion to adopt the board. >> So, sorry. >> It's been seconded. discussion on treasure disposal.
>> Mrs. Herin, >> yes. >> Mr. Vasquez, >> yes. >> Mr. Parker, >> yes. >> Mrs. Farway, >> yes. >> Miss Barnes, >> yes. >> At this time, the board is going to have a walk in uh in resolution recognizing women's history month. Mr. >> Thank you, Madam President. I have a resolution recognizing Women's History Month. Whereas March is recognized as Women's History Month, a time to acknowledge the role women have played in shaping our country's laws, economy, and civic institutions. And whereas women have advanced education, science, medicine, labor, the arts, and civic leadership through perseverance, innovation, and service. And whereas Toledo history included women whose leadership helped shape public education, including Al Marley, the first woman to graduate from Toledo High School in 1857, Harriet Whitney, Toledo's first female teacher, and Paul Lee Stein,
the first woman elected to public office in Toledo, serving on the board of education. And whereas Oklahoma schools continue to benefit from the leadership, talent, and contributions of women and girls across classrooms, workforce, and community. And whereas progress has required persistence and courage in the face of barriers that limit participation and opportunity. And whereas discrimination and exclusion undermine the mission of public education and well-being students and staff. Amen. Whereas schools have responsibility to teach history truthfully truthfully as to prepare students for informed participation in civic life. Now therefore be it resolved by the board of education of the Jolo City School District that section one the board formally recognizes women's history month and acknowledges the lasting contributions of women to the nation and to the children community. Section two, the board affirms its commitment to
learning and working environments grounded in dignity, respect, and nondiscrimination. Section three. This resolution shall be forced in effect from and immediately after it adoption. It is found and determined that all formal actions this board relating to this resolution were taken in compliance with all the requirements including section 121.22 of the Ohio advised code. >> Thank you, Mr. Vasquez. Do you have a motion to that please? So move second. It's been moved and seconded. discussion would like to go first. I feel like I um need to go after the honors just so I can say hey congratulations and so forth. We do want to thank the bridge committee for their work. We have um just really excited to see the smiles on your face since day. Um I would just like to say uh uh how
important it is that we recognize uh all of you tonight. Um you know uh as you can see from people who who serve in the sport that that women uh have always made a great contribution and uh to our honores u I know you and I know the contributions that you made. Just want to say thank you to all of you. Women u have struggled uh to be to be recognized u for the work that they bring to everything not just the workplace but everything and uh I've always been an advocate for them. Uh also madam president I'd be remiss in not representing my own life uh and contributions that she has made professionally in in her profession. Uh so I fully aware of the contributions that women make to every aspect of our lives.
get some points. Um I am always so uh just inspired and moved every year as we uh celebrate different groups uh individuals that are just amazing in our district in our community and it is just to the nominations that we receive um and to learn about each of the I say you know the women um that we will be honoring today. It just keeps me motivated um and inspired to always make sure I'm showing up to my best self because I know other young women are looking um at me um as well as I'm looking at the young women we're going to be honoring today because they are truly inspirational and u just a a tie issue. I wanted to name the theme for women's history month is leading the change women shaping a sustainable
future. And although it's for industries of environment and things of that nature, education is what's going to create that sustainable future. And I'm so glad that we get to as a board honor a small portion of the great women throughout our district um just by giving flowers because we see you here. We see you now and we cheer for you beyond. So I want you to know this is not just for today, it's forever that we champion you and thank you for what you do for our nation, for our community um and for your families. >> Thank you, Madam President. I want to say congratulations in advance to all of our honores tonight realizing that women's month is so important because you all are a shine to who we are and in every aspect of
wherever you work with it is such amazing time to be able to recognize women especially as a mom that tell you what to do march so as you're marching to your greatness celebrate you since this will be recorded Since Mr. Vasquez, I would celebrate my wife. Thank you so much for being a part of the great. Thank you. >> Thank you very much, Bishop. Um, well, I certainly to commend our honores tonight. Um, you know, and and thank you, Miss Barnes, for continuing to push every year, creating an opportunity so we can share and who showcase some of the women that are leading in our district. Whether you are male, right, or taller, um it doesn't matter. The point is is that we have females that are largely in charge and we appreciate them and
thank you. With that, um we call vote, please. >> Mrs. Ger, >> yes. >> Mr. Vasquez, >> yes. >> Mr. Parker. >> Yes. M. >> Yes. >> Miss Barnes. >> Yes. >> Okay. If any of our retirees are here tonight, please come forward and shake hands with everyone at the bush. If not, congratulations. Thank you, Mer. >> Thank you, President. Um, in honor of Women's History Month, we're going to try to do this as smoothly as possible, but you know, women, we get stuff done no matter what. So, bear with us as we make sure we have the right name, the right flowers, and all that stuff. Um, I want to start something different. Usually, you start with the most seasoned folks um or elders that say, but I I think it's uh rightfully so in this moment that we start with the
youngest. So, she knows that not only we're watching, but we are supporting and lifting up her to become the seasoned elder that we will honor in the future. Um for student leadership and community impact uh we have Brooklyn Tyler She didn't want she asked the person she asked right um but I think I welcome the board to talk uh about especially Dr. career. Um he was the one hearing to speak um at one of the community meetings and just to see how amazing and bright was um and it made me think to myself as a senior I didn't do half the stuff uh that she had accomplished and going on to do it and made me kind of feel like I was a a definitely underachiever in high school. Uh but now I want to
go back and do more. So I will open up those days for comments. So just in and like M Tucker was attending one of the community events and I spoke about the opportunity within the district and the ability to to get there no matter a very good hand for the word and so as I sat down on shoulder and sat on that child I said thank me and she said well I stop making but I got my CEO license from Rogers and I work in my uh license at W. So she attended the other court and she wanted to get her CL license. She took advantage. So we bought it from different location. She got her CL license and at the same time she wanted to get her welding license. She's doing that as well.
Three separate locations really taking advantage. So congratulations Mr. Appreciate all you do and continue on with your strong work. I I just want to congratulate you and thank you for coming to see us. I hope you enjoy. >> Um, our next honorary um is a a beacon a light in any room she walks in. Um, I can't remember the first time I met her, but I knew from the moment I met her, she was something of magic. uh because she has a way of making you feel seen, heard, but also relaxed. Um even when she's being stern, um she's trying to get into I'm not doing that. Um Miss Phoenix, uh wait a minute, let me talk about you here. uh because not only she is a a school counselor at two of our schools.
Uh she shows up in the community um does amazing work with different organizations. Uh but she also is a the current president for the Toledo area alliance for black school educators. Um and this service black school district um and she does it with so much grace in local because she doesn't get paid for that role. Then she does it on the state global as well and represent to on a national level. Um, and that is just amazing in itself. And she still finds a way to give you your smile at the end of the day. And I'm so impressed by this young woman that once again I'm thinking I need to get my life together because the way these beautiful women shine like oh my goodness. Um, it is a true honor that to know
that you are helping our kids through some challenging times. um and still want to go out in the community to help more. And so I appreciate you a for the limited one TPS version is full excellent and dedication award. So our honor to read um is amazing because I know how to have little ones um and try to keep her quiet in the morning. Um but just to see her um once again the room with a smile very hilarious actually. uh but of course this is because of her contributions to education but to note she's an era and that's especially imam I know uh the duties that come with that so to raise your kids and then go have food for others u that itself is a worthy angel to me um and I I
thank you so much for I guess I can say our school as I should say where she works at she's up here but also I hear she's amazing senior but just to know her is to I haven't heard y'all but just to uh know that she does for the kids when I see the the young people that she works with they just love her um and this is what once again this dedication is for is not only being seen but being heard and I know sometimes when we do the work of many uh is built remotely and I thank you for just showing up every day and pouring into our group that's also your little throughout the community to open up the board. >> Yes. Uh I just want to say uh this is a
good example of uh what women do. She's here taking care of children. She's doing everything that we do, you know, and and I don't I don't want to talk about what anymore about my my wife take away from. But I learned very quickly that my wife could do all these things. She had one child on her, one of her other children dressing in a snowsuit and still getting to work on time and doing all the things she needs to do. And I have to be very honest with you and I tell her this all the time. I couldn't do that. Okay. But women do this. They just do it. And I want you to know it. It is obvious to me. I I make that observation. And I I just applaud what women are able
to do by multitasking just so you're doing and it's appreciated. Miss Caitlyn, I know you're considered being honored for your contribution as a pair professional, but as you know, these people are also in a weird mom. So, I just want to say I remember Lily was in a stroller. I just don't know what happened like you went from Lily to like Lily. I don't know how you straight, but I know um just watching your you know grow as if you're a professional that you found your home when you made your way just way smart and you love the work no matter where you were but the difference was just astounding like when you landed where you knew you belong. So I think it's pretty cool that not only you belong there but your kid right
school there. So that's something to just be TPS proud about that TPS. So thank you. >> I will share my love with every absolutely loveable person and you have a voice. >> Okay. So everybody knows or maybe you don't know but this is my daughter um and I did not nominate her although I wanted to and I was told for that. So one of my colleagues says thank you um this is what I will say I know your heart um I know how beautiful it is. I know how much love that you share with your kiddos at school uh besides the grandchildren that I adore. Um but what you bring to the table at Esquea um you know what that can't be managed you those kids run to you they know a safe person when
they see one they feel they feel the love for you so for that I thank you and recognize you and women's history month as one of those women that need and love and Bob We know you can't handle that this year. Hungry for student support and access to cake hill. Our next award is for illustrator. leadership and service award. Uh if you know this young lady uh you know advocacy um she is power and truth in that word and she lives in in action. Um, I am always how far she will go for our students and our families to make sure you're seeing her her welcome value. And that to me as the organizer is always my heart. And she does it so smooth. Like you don't know she's telling you to do something until
you've done it and then you're she's smiled at you like thank you. But I will follow Miss Gabby anywhere. Um but she leads with her heart. Um she is a mighty warrior for our students, our her district and our community. And I am truly proud to uh award the minister's leadership and service award to Gabriella by reading BS. That's fine. Oh, I love it. Um, the reason why I wanted to start with a young, like I said, I wanted her to speak the women before. Um, and this last honor to read uh is not only a special person to me as a mentor, but a true icon in the community uh for her work um in healthcare. And I hope through this she sees the inspiration of women uh that she has inspired such as
myself. um for the award of the women's history month schools edition um for community impass leadership award uh we presented to Miss Donnie Miller and I just believe Miss Miller that you are a doctor and guess what so you don't tell people that I just want you to put more seasoning on your flowers but Um the reason why she well more than the many reasons why she received this award neighborhood health association she has partnered with several schools to provide hygiene products for our students and their personal hygiene classes. Uh she's also have serviced our families uh with equable paying healthc care clinics um and services a lot of those nursing are um and she's always trying to do something more and bigger and better. Um she's challenging me always to uh say less do
more. That's a trouble for me if you know me. Um, but this is truly an honor to give you your flowers together. I I have to make a correction. told the internet be careful what you read because she's not a doctor but she's just she's just an esquire that's not so esquire now we will take pictures of our >> oh sorry I've known a long time and uh this is very special for you guys and for you to be recognized. We um have spent a lot of time talking and trying to deal with some of the issues of community and you know sometimes we agree sometimes we haven't and our disagreements are not polarizing they were about trying to understand the issues that were in front of us and I think that we did that
very well between the two of us which is something that people don't seem to be able to do in this with you. One of the special recollections that I have is that uh one summer night I was sitting on the back porching and it was down and down was asking some questions as to why we're making certain decisions that we make here education. not because you want to criticize that you don't understand and uh we went back and forth about those decisions and after we talked about it was uh time for for D to offer some possible solutions after we talked through everything. I got off the phone. I says, "My son and I walked in the family room and my wife Kathy says, "Who are you talking to so far?" And I said, "Honey."
And she said, "Oh, okay." And she said, "I'm pretty serious." And now you're a very serious person. And just like you, I always appreciate talking to you. I always appreciate your feedback. I always appreciate your work. you truly really care about your community and I just want you to know I appreciate that. I appreciate the friendship over the years and all the interactions that that we've had and I also count you as a mentor just for the record. Um and people also may know her as a TV personality. We all have clamored to get on her various shows over the years because she did a good job of really highlighting what was going on in the community and offering people an opportunity to be heard. It's always appreciated. when the first the first time I
actually met you though maybe it's one of the little known facts since there is um when you ran to the city council so long ago probably district four not sure but I remember it being when we first went to districts and that's where we first met so um when you talk about people circle and really having done just about everything in the community it's something you can ch I would consider consider it an honor um if you called me and wanted to ask me any good questions about what's going on in the district even now as we are now facing um some challenges and some crisis. So ask many congratulations well deserved to >> okay this time if we'd like to step to take pictures that would be lovely thank you I don't know what
You know what? Are we just >> Oh, can you take pictures? Everybody's got to step back. >> Over shoulders. Mr. You just float around. Okay, let's see. No, we don't have to see the whole time, >> but I'll stand with you tomorrow video. Bye girl. Congratulations. >> Yes. So, honey. Congratulations. Jesus. >> Okay. Thank you. >> It's Brooklyn. Bye everyone. >> Oh, bye. Okay, we're going to move on to section three, which are committee comments, but we do not have any this evening. Then we'll move on to section four, which is organizational input. And tonight we have our student representative, Aon Butler, the Scott High School I'm about you just heard. Um being at Scott have taught me a lot of things. Many so being how to use my voice and where to find my
voice and who to talk to with my voice. Um I have a very good mentor. Her name is Miss Brown. and she has continuously imported into me and what I want out of high school and what I went after high school actually. Um during my time at Scott, I had gathered a lot of achievements. Um one of them being I am vice president of 2026. And the reason I wanted to become vice president was because of my classmates and because I knew that I was a good mediator between students and faculty. Um at Scott I have developed relationships after relationships and for that I'm forever grateful because Scott is a very big very big very big and they have many people with many connections and I'm happy that I was happy or that I was
able to use that. Um, I also became captain of basketball and volleyball team. And with that, I was able to not only use my voice to be the mediator that I wanted to be, but I also to use my voice to feed it to other kids. And I was able to do that with a different part of what I never expected coming into sky. I have moved here being not timid, not shy, more so being an observer because of the fact that I just moved here and I didn't know none of them. They didn't know none of me. And from being a freshman and to now becoming a senior president, um, from them not knowing me to now everybody know me and everybody being able to be comfortable and tell me their power and what
they they want out of the school. That's a big blessing for that. I'm forever grateful for TPS and for starting school. So, thank you all. Okay. I don't know how we talent. Thank you for being here. My goodness. Um, next up we have our parent representative, Miss Joanna White. She's the president of the parent teacher organization at Jones Leadership Academy Business and District Parent Leadership. Good evening everyone. As she said, my name is Joanna White and I am the president of the PTO at Jones Leadership Academy. I've been there. This is my ninth year and it will be my last one. Um I'm happy to be at the worship this evening and we had a meeting before uh with Mrs. recommend the parent leader board have a meeting before we had our meeting here and
we discussed the community meetings that we had our team. Um I went to a staff meeting and I can say that I actually I was hesitant because I wasn't sure if it would be worth it found out any new information. I absolutely found out new information. Um, it was very informative. The way that you had the pie charts on there and the bullets and everything, you had the outlines, the visuals, they were very easy to follow. I appreciate that. I appreciate the fact that I was able to hear straight from the horses, not all the different rumors about where the money is coming from and why the money is there. I also appreciate the fact that um I've done well prepared and uh having already have previous meetings at the staff meeting you were able
to um give the m the most important questions or the most common questions that have been asked of the previous weeks you already had answers for us. So I appreciate that. I also appreciate the fact that we had the opportunity to go to a breakout session and I also love the fact that I was able to sit at a table with three other complete strangers from different backgrounds. One of them didn't even have the children. The other one was a local soldier. One was the first graduating class until we were early college with a student at Scott and myself. And so it was all different perspectives and ideas and that we were able to share and I just appreciate that. I think you did a good job explaining this as a parent with uh students
at Epste Academy for girls and you know that's one of the schools that's rumored to have some changes maybe not. Um, I have been anxious about it, you know, I want to know what to do with my children, you know, and I just appreciate that you you made me feel like you cared about my opinion when I went to that community meeting and I just want to say thank you for that. And I also want to I didn't get opportunity to speak for Mrs. Miller. I thought she might stay a little longer, but um she has in charge leadership academy business by free hygiene factory 2,000 sanitary napkins 10 months out the year for the last four years in a row. She is the reason why I have been able to keep my hygiene pantry
open. The neighborhood health association also sponsors our hygiene drive that we have during the summer and that's they also at that time they buy everything. They buy deodorant, lotion, toothpaste. It's more than just sanitary napkins. Uh Mrs. Miller, she absolutely deserves the flowers that she received today. So, thank you for choosing her. Um and I do have some good news I'd like to share. Um, I will now be a uh assistant mentor at Picket Elementary for fifth grade class through the part zone. So, I've already done my interview. I've already done my check. And so, tomorrow actually get to meet her students. So, I'll be mentoring two students um at Stewart twice a month on Wednesday. No, if not, sorry, not store. Thank you. Fabulous. Thank you so much and thanks for being here. Um,
next we have Mr. Mayor. Thank you. First, I want to thank you for reminding me of women's history month. That's why I cover the I do want to make sure I recognize my wife as far as what duties are. But I do want to congratulate all here today recognized. We all have a mother. So we got to make sure that we recognize the women in our lives. Um the other piece I wanted to talk about is the retirees that we've had off there was nearly 50 I was counting them this in today's board meeting but I know we have about 90 nearly 100 staff retiring this year I think it was a thousand years just for this year over a thousand years for this month we are going to be losing a lot of experience
a lot of history make sure we recognize those people show but I didn't do when you reading all those years 41 years so I want to congratulate those retire and lastly I want to circle back to Barb's moment of silence is about leadership and advocate advocacy I know that the board's members do that strongly want to let you know we're still here advocate for our administrators during this tough time >> thank you Mr. Is there anyone from TP's here or Mr. Parker? Mr. Carter here from All right, we're going to move on to section five then comments by the board. Thank um I just want to say to our students representative do you have family right here? >> Would you like to introduce something? >> Okay. So we got my mom that's Miss Ber and
then the one next that's her husband that is Mr. Eric B. That is my father. Okay. part of my I wanted to do that because I just you know uh congratulations to everything and everybody that's been here and but you particularly kind of get the spot for me and that is that this the way you handle yourself the reason I we all do and you uh show that all of the time that we put into this is work. >> So, but the other thing is is that I always make comments that the school can't be everything to our children, but they need their parents. And so that's why I wanted to introduce you and I want to thank you for helping us and in what we're doing and helping hoping we're helping you in her
development and going on to the future because it really does take all of us to do that. So congratulations on not just being here tonight who you are and who you're going to be and congratulations to you too. Thank you. Thank you. I can't help but want to start with Miss Avalon as well. My comments I just want to say where have you been meeting a young woman, you know, you're you're a senior, you know, getting to know you now. This did this great transition. You didn't speak up like what's next for you? But I hope you keep in touch and keep us um informed. I mean, in general, this the presentations tonight, the award, sometimes we um I might be in the mood for a board meeting to just get to business, right? Uh
but it but if I think about it, it was these presentations and these things we do before we get to the business that do really truly remind us why we're doing this. and it's especially um useful to get us grounded in a time like this when our business is a little bit rougher than usual. So, um, you know, you helped make me, um, ready to do the business because we we're reminded why we are we are that that the longest of retirement is always seems shocking in March, but um to keeping in mind that that's um it's not a mass exodus. It's the time of year when people need to notify us of their retirements by contract in order to get some other considerations and for us to add staffing staff planning. So it always
seems like a lot in March. Um but I know that it um that really did add up quick and I I um also getting old enough that the names that are appearing are people I worked with before I retired. and I started looking around and say there's no one left that I know um after you know doing 30 years myself retired in 2009. So it it just kind of hits home that that's the season I'm in that even the young teachers who were young teachers when I was you know approaching retirement are now approaching retirement age and stuff. So uh that's that's a dawning awareness that is interesting. Um I wanted to say something about the um the work that is before the board um in the coming months and I'm sure our president will
remind us again that we you know we have a big transformation plan that is due to the board by by April 15. So there's a lot of work to do. I'm on the HR and that is now known as program redesign committee. So, we're seeing a lot of the work marching towards us and people are going to hear hear about it soon. I do want to mention that uh deliberately taking up the notion in HR committee was going to be another difficult thing. kind of talked about the idea of really having a trauma-informed lens as we move people around and and lay people off if they necessary, but it's going to be a whole another level when we start talking about business schools because we're talking about the communities that are going to kind of
offended and asked to, you know, find themselves a new community. So, I just want people to know that we're trying I'm trying to be deliberate about that, particularly um the additional anxiety of the summer uncertainty because of the late nature of being able to do the staffing and you know understanding what our community has done before. So, um it's it's just it's going to get rough. I just want people to know that you know that board members are really trying to make it as uh you know the least amount of trauma we possibly can to get to the other side of this. So that's what I'll be working on in HR committee is kind of addressing the uncertainties and and how can we make sure people are um kept up to date as much as
possible until final until people do know what's happening for sure. get back. >> Thank you, Madam President. Um, first I would like to thank the staff uh that uh was there and assisting through the community needs. Um, a lot of uh thought planning um went into that. Um, even after the long work day, they still showed up and sometimes we didn't get out of the the meetings until 8:00. Um, so I first want to say thank you um to the team um that worked hard to make sure not only that answers were were gathered so we can have a correct response and not just performative response the response of this is what we're thinking this is what we have to do and this is what the state wants us to do. I do appreciate that.
um been helped. I think uh for myself as a board member to um feel like we were actually listening and being um being very responsive to what the community at the time it was information and what we had gave. And so I do want to say thank you to the staff because I know it wasn't easy. Um I know it hasn't been easy. um a little bit says when you hear rumors and this is our community so passion is going to be there um and sometimes when you are hurt or angry you don't really know to attack so I just want to say thank you to our staff for for coming to every meeting working everything after a long day um and coming back the next day because once again they don't wait for the
money for the love of district so I do appreciate everyone who worked uh to plan um to conduct and to implement those meetings. Um getting back to Women's History Month, I I would be very uh disappointed if I left without saying why Women's History Month was so important to me as a school board member. And I have to say it's my first love. My mother, my mother was an educator. uh started as a PTO president and then she ended up going into Head Start uh until she retired. And she showed a love of reading and learning, but also how I knew that was because I I taught her as a teacher. Um from, you know, getting snacks in her classroom to clothing to making sure every kid can go field trip. um going up above
and beyond her classroom to make sure it felt like home there. And that's who I hope to to do for this district for every student. So, I would like to say thank you to Rita Bar for introducing me to the love of education um and happy women with this history month. Um another uh woman I like to shout out is my science teacher from high school, Miss De. She's probably going to kill me. Um, but she did something and I'm going to be honest, she is a beautiful uh she's a white woman. Um, and I really went, Michigan and I live in an area where people were scared to come to. uh people the police was scared to come to and every day her and other amazing teachers who were non-black came to our school
and fought with us by us and for us to make sure we have high quality education and I didn't understand the importance of that until I became a board member and seeing the how I have to move against the stigmas that we have against our district. Um, she didn't treat us no different. She didn't uh judge us for uh anything. Even when I was a teenage parent, she still made sure I had my homework somehow. Um, and it was teachers like her that I think helped me win. So, I graduated. So I want to take the time and thank Miss Danf and um we still Facebook friends um to this day because those two women gave me got me the motivation inspiration to be the board member I am for public uh education school district
uh for students who are counted out because of their zip code, counted out because of their race, counted out because English may not be their first language. uh counters to be not what society wants them to be or is to be for higher education. So I want to thank them both. Um Miss White, I cannot thank you enough as a parent. um knowing you know how you move just not just for Jones and oh by the way I'm a parent of proud TV as a parent um but how you move for all the babies all the all the babies are your babies um and I have to tell the 20 story real quick I'm taking time I'm taking the space remember that table space um my son came home with a personal hygiene bag and
I What are you doing? You don't need that bag. He said his wife said I had a bag so everybody else have come back and that way I didn't get judged. And I was like I get it. I get it. Okay. And telling him that made sure that he can tell his friends like don't be judging people cuz you don't know who really needs it or not. He he said that to a couple friends and I think for sharing that it wasn't about if they need it or not. everybody gets it because some of our kids won't think when we say and I appreciate you for that. Um, and yes, we did because we had tons of but thank you though. Thank you for removing that stigma of not happening. Um, and board member Butler,
I mean, did you do that or what? Um, but I want to highlight something. We had two phenomena women from Scott represented tonight. That makes me so proud and they did it. Okay. Okay. Okay. Okay. Here we go. But once again, thank you. And I say thank you to the parents because you raised a phenomenal young black woman in today's world. And I know that's not easy. and to see her shine, I'm just like, where you were where you working as a CEO or you running for office? Let me know. Um, please don't lose that. And I just want to say thank you for giving grace to us tonight. Um, with your brilliance, your confidence, and your shine. I appreciate you. Thank you, brother. I don't have a lot to say, but I want to
say I'm kind of biased as related to this because her parents are friends of mine. What you see is what you seek. The consistency of who she is because her wonderful parent is still inside. But I am so excited that you're seeing this. She is so excited that I made sure I was going to be the fourth member at SC toward your transition to greatness. You were absolutely phenomenal tonight. You stood with confidence in everything that you said. You own. So thank you for who you are and continue success as you prepare for this. That's why I want to say thank you. um because uh respons uh it's one thing to see surveys, it's another thing to hear your words and so hearing you express uh your experience that our community needs it meant a
lot to me because I think many times we look at those who will not that we miss out on those who made the opportunity and sacrifices to do and so uh we started this uh uh at one school and we kind of got some things correctly about our wellointed chief uh making sure with this phenomenal staff that we gave our community uh what they asked for and um even today is making sure that our community knows this was not just as Mark said informative uh just to do it to do it but to really hear our community and wondering um how we can uh with our stakeholders make sure that our vision continues to excel even this challenge that we're going through. So, thank you again for being academ. But it was also how people
came with an understanding and lack understanding um of where we are in a society of people depending on opinions like facts uh and absent truth. Um I think it's very important that we stay true to who we were as a district uh to the best of our ability. So, uh, she wasn't, but I was kind of sad that it was over cuz I just connected with the community and really getting a feel for different areas and let them know that our our district even in the midst of this still believe that we will come out to do what we need to be informed. Thank you. >> Yes, I'm sorry. I got difficult to say something about the community meetings and and I wanted really to thank board members Barnes and Parker for their leadership on
that bridge committee. This was really a heavy lift. Uh we're all particularly hearts on part of committees but there are there's not another committee where they expected us out six weeks in a row uh one week twice I think um at to host these meetings. So I was able to attend three of them. Um because I just can't stay away um when it comes to you know really seeing how the community is interacting. Um so thank you that was a heavy lift and and I and we look forward to you know using the results seeing how it's leading us. I wanted to specifically thank uh Mr. RmIrez and his members who were the table hosts. They were the facilitator. when you talk about staff coming out and help uh week after week. Those were ters
that those were t members who are uh in this they know that the outcomes aren't necessarily great for some of them and they were there for every meeting and they did a really good job. My favorite part was walking around and kind of spotty on the tables and trying to, you know, you know, listen in and hear how where the conversations were going. And the facilitation mattered in these rooms. You got, you know, six to 12 tables all popping at once in a room, it seems a little overwhelming, but when you zeroed in on each table, they were they were zeroed in. and and those facilitators really made a difference to help the the parents who were at the tables or the community members at the tables um see the questions and hear the responses.
So I really did want to mention uh being pretty pretty uh pleased with how those were how this went and I know we got a lot of data. >> Sure. Um, so I first want to thank Lenwood Elementary students um for we're setting the national anthem, the mission in vision city for TPS. Uh, that's probably one of my favorite parts of our meetings. Um, you know, we have big people here all the time and that's our little bit of joy that's coming even across the video, but they're they're part of um the board meeting, right? So, we have really heavy decisions make coming up and it it reminds me every time I'm at a working see those faces of why I'm doing what I'm doing and the decisions that we make who they're impacting truly.
Um, so I I thank Lynwood for for being present tonight. The retirements I I always say this, we we couldn't do what we do without the staff. Um, I applaud those that are retiring. I mean, 1300 hours, 1300 years, no joke. Um, and in retirees, I know that we usually have an abundance in March, but this seems a little higher than normal. Um, and so, you know, that's with them. I applaud them. I appreciate them. And we certainly congratulate them on their retirement. uh many of them may know and it's a that's um that's a lot of knowledge that is walking out the door. It's a lot of knowledge. Uh women's history month obviously the honories um we're gone now but we certainly I I thank you yet again as far as for bringing this
to life every year and making this something that we dedicate the month of March for. uh it is imperative that we recognize the contributions um of women in our community and you know as I I just did earlier in my day job we did this as well and there was actually two teachers uh that were recognized by the county commissioners today um for their contributions to our community. So, it it just spoke guidance about TPS, right? It's still in the house, whether it's here or at the county commissioner seat. Um, okay, Miss Avalon. Wow. Wow. Right. I am so excited um for your future. And Miss Chris Butler, my goodness, you have raised a rock star, right? You already know it. Um, I love when you said you're finding your voice, right? That's so good.
So powerful. I mean, here you are in high school and you're like, I didn't even know what my voice was in high school. I I had no idea what I was doing. I I will say um while I did have a um a female teacher that u pushed me. I had a male teacher that pushed me and he uh it didn't matter that I was a girl, right? It didn't matter. I you know I was just a little old little little old girl uh from through high school. Mr. Jordan was my favorite teacher and he pushed me um because he saw something in me that I didn't. And so I feel like uh what you talked about tonight is just so powerful is that kind of capturing that that you found your voice and you're
going to use it and make this world better. So, thank you for being part of PPS. You certainly make this mom's heart proud. Um, and then of course, uh, listen, I can't say enough about Mrs. White. She again, parent rock star. I I am all about parent engagement involvement. I, you know, that's kind of my stream, right, where I came from. And so, I applaud all the things that you do for this district. Thank you for bringing up your insight into the forums. you know, you hear from staff, you hear from different lenses throughout the community. There was really I'm I'm thankful that you shared that with us tonight. Um we were hopeful that the forums would be meaningful. Plus, educational education is emotional, right? Whether it's parent, whether it's staff member, it impacts everyone's
lives. And so we are in a position unfortunately nobody wants to be in there. There's not one person up here that's up thinking about all the things that we have the decision we have to make and knowing the impact on our friends and our families um and our community as a whole. So, thank you for sharing what you did. Um and I certainly applaud my colleagues uh my female pel especially very women. Uh thank you for um being the fierce women that you are. give a little round. Sorry. But I also want to say thank you to my colleagues because I know the tremendous pressure that we are all under right now. I applaud Dr. Grant and Mr. Schulty and your staff um for the efforts that they're putting in. Uh, I mean, listen, there's
hundreds of meetings it seems like that are happening and and and my favorite phrase that Mr. Kent always uses is dare to serve. Dare to serve. Uh, and and I appreciate that, but I do understand the time commitment that goes into getting to um a a decision, right? So, this is not easy in any way, shape, or form. With that, I'm going to move on to fly through this bill. Section six is the consent agenda. Agenda item 6.01 through 6.39 on consent agenda items. Board members may request to pull an item for the consent and move to the discussion section of the agenda. Item 6.01 to 6.04 is human resource committee. Any discussion hearing on treasur rule >> Mrs. Ger? >> Yes. >> Mr. Vasquez. >> Yes. >> Mr. Parker. >> Yes. >> Mr. Bwick. >> Yes. >> M. Barnes. >> Yes. >> Okay. Section seven of the agenda consists of
reports and minutes from this month's committee meetings and are here for information and reference. No action is required. So, we're going to proceed to section eight of the agenda. That looks like under discussion items that are up and done for this month. Is that right? Section nine. Are there any walk-ins this evening? Okay. We're going to move to section 10, early childhood education items. Chair Gina Barnes co. So, I'm going to turn it over to you. Got a mic. >> Yeah, I'll speak loud. Uh, we do have No, >> we want to be accessible for all >> abilities. Sorry for that. Um, yes, we do have an agenda item for consideration and ask for >> 101 childhood program selection criteria. I'd like to request a motion to approve the early childhood program selection criteria. So

Please call the role. >> Mrs. >> Yes. >> Mr. Best, >> yes. >> Mr. Bur, >> yes. >> Mrs. Mur, >> yes. >> Miss Barnes, >> yes. >> Okay, great. Section 11 of the agenda consists of early childhood education reports and minutes from this month's committee meetings and are provided for your information reference. There's no action required. So, we can proceed to section 12. Are there any early childhood education walk-ins? No. Thank you. We're going to move to 13 on superintendent comments. >> Again, congratulations to Miss Avon over there and mom and dad. Appreciate you to do again with confidence conviction. She wants a bulldog always. But again, congratulations to her. Congratulations to Brooklyn, a role model student. uh taking advantage of all
opportunities no matter the location but knowing what the opportunities are that exist within the districts and so her taking full advantage of the huge value to her success. Uh today uh the University of Toyota executive cabinet uh did a tour of the of the program from the comprehensive as well as the academy and uh we're greatly impressed uh and are looking to align much more closely understanding the value of how our education our students. So again another thank you. >> Thank you. Uh just one thing uh we are keeping up on all the property tax before bills that be proposed out the state will recess here. So we'll get back on this beetr not just but president may I make a request that we do you did a great job of breaking down uh bonds
with mortgage if we can show when we lose property taxes how it would affect education and I know it's going to affect uh you EMS and fire, but I know we talking about, but I put it into like, okay, this is what we're losing. Um, if we can, because I don't think people, you hear, I want to save money on my property taxes, but you don't hear that they're what you're losing by not paying property taxes. Those potholes will not get filled. Um, you won't have the school, therefore, you won't have more jobs. So, therefore, your need will start. I want I want to start having talking points because we have a lot of ways about uh ending property taxes uh without the facts like board member Parker said about the facts of if that
happens you will in your community both shortly so we can figure out the talking points for the topic. No, that's um I love that you asked the question and um I know that I have already had conversations with Mr. Schulty about um do you have the the number off top of your head? Do you remember what that was? That we would lose property taxes go away. >> 110. No. >> And the history of what we're doing. I will tell you that that is going to uh devastate um all districts in the state of Ohio. So it won't just be us. And I don't believe the legislature has an answer for that. Madam, if you don't mind, this is once again what you call defunding public education happening in our faces. Um, I do have Okay.
At this time, we have one comment. So, you guys, >> I just want to talk now. It's graduation time in my head already. So, I'm excited. So, yeah. history moment he was on that first time on the show together. Um so board members uh in order to maintain the timeline that we have going right now um vice president Parker and myself uh met with administration and we requested that um administration work toward completing negotiations by April 7th. Um based on the timeline that we have uh since we I requested that we have the transformation plan ready to go at 15. Um well it may be done early or not. I don't know. Uh but I'd like to at least have some dates in mind. Um so I'm requesting or we requesting uh a special board
meeting. uh right now if you can look at your calendar and see if April 9th is available and the purpose of the meeting would be to review any kind of agreements discuss related personnel matters and take any action I'm open on the 9th so um I don't know work schedule I can make myself available We have committee meeting Sunday between each other. I think that fits the question. He chose it up a little. >> Okay. So, we could do we can just spread those other two meetings out to have more. How about we do one? Okay. So just for the for the HR curriculum committee meetings u let's talk this Thursday about adjusting that ever so slightly move one up one down and then we'll be able to >> yeah okay well you know thank
you >> okay so one right now to that discussion meeting. Okay. All right. That is great. That is all I have. Anyone else? Entertain a motion to agend second discussion car. Yes. Mr. Jeff. Yes. M. >> Yes.
