Uh section two of the agenda uh consists of presentations and I'll turn that over to uh Miss Major. Good evening and thank you. Tonight we are congratulating our four retirees. Marilyn Windagel Miller, Edie Perah at Sky High School with 32 years of service. And Julie York, food service worker at Oakdale Elementary, 29 years, 10 months of service for a total of 117 years and 10 months of service to to section three consist of community comments. We have none this month. So that takes us to section four,

004our organizational input. And today we have a uh we have students from the uh Chelo Pradic Medical and Health Science Academy. Uh would you please introduce yourself? >> My name is Lily Kales and I'm a senior at the Toledo Premed Health Science Academy. >> Go ahead. Presentation. Today we opened our wellness room for mental health awareness. We've had this idea for about four years and plan to action about it. >> Next uh is the parent congress who is represented by Joanna White. She is the president of the parent teacher organization of Jones Leadership Academy Business. >> Good evening everyone. Happy to be here once again with you representing the parent leader organization. Today we had a monthly meeting and we discuss just staying focused on the same message that every day matters. Attendance really counts.

005Really leaning in on that message with our families and our students. I also can't sit here and not talk about Jay Glad. I just want to shout out Miss Christine Mason. She is a counselor at Chosmanship Academy of Business and I have a short story to tell. You know, my daughter's graduate a couple years ago and one on the path was in a four-year college, right? And Mrs. Mason never forgot about my daughter and she told us about the program at the local 48 Northwest Ohio construction. My daughter took that test. She passed that test. She got accepted into the apprenticeship program and she reports to Senobis on Monday to start her apprenticeship program in um installation. It's a five-year program and she will be paid to attend 50% of what she will actually be

006making when she graduates. So Jones Leadership Academy and TPS cares about our students. We have fabulous schools and I stay at Jones because I believe in the mission. Thank you for allowing me to be here tonight. >> Next, we'll hear from Mr. Amelio from >> Thank you. I'm going to echo hear representative about proud tradition and proud TPS. So many of you may know about Scott days actually probably a whole week or the weekend that they do event for all alumni. Uh this week was also Woodward High School's all alumni event. I attended obviously weight high schools all alumni event. Now I understand Scott or Clay High School is copying open TPS and doing an all alumni event. It started last year. So, it is good to see uh that we we even after graduation

007that we still support donate to TPS to the schools that we're proud of being from. So, thank you. >> Thank you. Um and then I don't see anybody from TFT or S. That'll take us to section five comments by the board and I will start down with Mr. Parker. >> Thank you, Mr. President. We don't have any comments tonight outside but thanking us corporate class for the awesome pledge of allegiance allegiance and our mission and vision to our retirees. We truly celebrate them. I really want to just say how with our student [clears throat] representation and our parent representation how great it is uh for our work to be represented from all angles of our district. And so thank you so much Lily for being here. It's like I I got used to you sitting

008next to me. You can't go anywhere. It's been amazing. Um it's just good to hear things from our district and even with the wellness room and deal with mental health and the focus to stay focused. I think that is very important. Um at the end of the day, we have um challenges challenges from the state with report card that does not reflect our district. Um, but nevertheless, that's like a lead on a broken record that we talk about all the time. Um, we continue to do what we need to do and so I want to thank all of you for the piece of the puzzle that you have to make our district what it needs to be. Thank you. >> Thank you, Mr. President. >> I want to say something because I see students, I

009think, in the audience. Um and then another student, a graduate student uh in the audience as well. But just to um let you know that what you're going to see tonight is uh us voting on what we call a consent agenda. So it's not going to be a lot of votes for every single thing. You're you're going to need to consult four docs, right? So, four dots. You can get to it from our website. And that's going to show you what's actually in this consent agenda. And you'll also see all the committee meetings that we did all month long to get ready for tonight's board meeting. So, all those votes get rolled in one vote. And it's going to look like, well, gee, that was that was just one vote. What's going on? So, you're

010going to need to connect the dots back to the committee meetings and uh look at that consent agenda so that you can understand what it was that we were we were voting on uh tonight. So, we kind of consolidate our business into one vote. That's not the only vote all night, but that's the big one. And but that's that contains all the work that um this board does through the month. each of us have two, three, maybe four if many meetings a month where all uh all the work gets done before the items appear here at this board meeting. So when make sure that you consult that boards to see the bigger picture what from what you're going to see tonight at our at our official business meeting. Um, I also wanted to congratulate the

011um, Smart Students at um, TTA and Health Sciences Academy for the opening of their um, of their wellness room. I was able to stop by and check it out and get a nice tour. And I was able to score a sticker for my puppy. So, that was a big score because the last one I had there was kind of peeling off and so it was time to replace it. So, I have selfcare matters. Thank you. that when those were uh laid out and wrapped the room, it was okay for me to snag one on my on my way through the tour. Um I think that the the other the mention of you know the alumni groups and and you know the support we got uh it it comes to bear when it comes to the

012wellness room that opened today too. I learned um that one of the groups that were there was someone a group called the Tiger Legacy Fund. So even our long cloak schools, the develop tigers have alumni that continue to to gather and meet and contribute uh to the well-being of our students at the at the the build uh campus of innovation. So even though the school's long closed, it was neat to see um the the Tiger Legacy group continues to contribute. So kudos to all of our alumni and I think it's a great testament to why we're all TPS proud. Thank you. >> Thank you, Miss Barnes. >> Thank you, Mr. President. Um, first of all, I want to apologize for missing the opening of room. I was so excited that I went a week early.

013Um, Miss Mer could attest to that. I was really gearing up to uh see what you have all put together. I know you work really hard on it. Um, and I believe this thing. Um, I think it is uh an amazing uh effort because you said something, you saw the challenges, you worked through it and you still got it done. So, I am extremely proud of the work that the students did along with the staff to accomplish that goal. And I know it's going to be uh very beneficial. um as a advocate and and someone who champions awareness about mental health and uh a race and stigma, this is what I love to see, especially from our future leaders. Um so I I am really excited to come and visit that and get my own

014speakers and not show up a week earlier this time. Um on a personal note to the parents in our community um who are taking care of loved ones um with special needs or disabilities uh mainly in the autism uh community. I want to say right now uh just breathe take your time and lean on your support. Um as things come out, as things develop, just make sure you don't get weary. Um I am extremely grateful for our staff members especially. I know she's going to cringe when I say her name, but Miss Kang um who works with uh our families with students with disabilities and you know helped to navigate resources. Um, and also want to shout out uh Autism for Northwest Ohio uh because these these resources, these supports right now are going to

015be really needed in our community. And I just want to talk to parents, caregivers, and loved ones of folks on the autism autistic spectrum um to to encourage you right now. I know a lot of things are are heavy. Um, and hopefully we will get more life and support, but just know that we have support for you here at TPS. Um, and besides myself, we have a staff member um, and volunteers ready to support you as best as possible. Um, the last thing I am excited to see our calendar book. Um, Bambino, my youngest, lives by this calendar and we had a couple, uh, debates about when schools was started. Um, and so, uh, he wanted to cancel until he got his calendar. So, I am really excited to see this and he will be

016calling back to close school um, based on the calendar when he sees something. So, I'm really excited to put this back up and now know when we're going to debate about going to school in our house. Thank you, Mr. B. Mrs. Barber. >> Thank you. Um, I would also like to thank uh Esa fourth grade class, which I believe my granddaughter was in. I think I I saw her in the middle of the room. Um, so it's great to uh have them participate in our board meetings. And then Jasmine as well, who was signing the mission vision. It's always great to have participation from our students. Um certainly we want to thank our retirees because again we could not do a meeting without the hard work and dedication for all of our staff members. So

017congratulations to the retirees. Um also I'd certainly like to thank our student representative down there. Thank you so much for being here. Uh that's half the battle for me is just seeing uh student face here at the board meetings. um they're not always as exciting as maybe some of the other things that go on in our schools, but uh we certainly make uh important decisions here. So, thank you for being here and thank you for your persistence in creating that room. It's going to be well it's welld deserved and I know it'll be utilized. Um and certainly, Miss White, thank you for being here. I love seeing a parent here every month. It's I mean I don't know how many months in a row we've had this now. So um I might get a little

018used to it. That'd be great. Um and and you know what they say about parents that are involved, you know, planning the seed for future board members. Just putting it out there. Um, and then I would also just like to take a moment to say that uh I had the opportunity via Ohio School Association to represent our district, the Northwest region uh and in DC um a few weeks ago and it's an opportunity to advocate at the federal level. So, I was able to meet with Representative Captor's office as well as uh Senator Marino's office and I met with Senator Houston to advocate on behalf of our district public education and certainly uh many of the career tech programs in our place and maybe some future opportunities. So, uh, it's always good to have, um,

019you know, the door open for those possibilities. And then I would be remiss if I didn't just point out that we need to pay attention to the state house. We know um, they like to fast and furious educational bills that impact us uh, mostly um, not in productive ways. So, we need to pay attention to that. Um, so I've encouraged my my colleagues to just make sure that they are aware of what's going on out there. Thank you. >> Thank you. Uh lastly, our our uh my comments and uh one of the things I appreciate is uh Miss Gerkin uh pointing out to everyone that we really do work in committees and that's why we have a consent agenda and uh there's a lot of work that's done in committees, a lot of discussion back

020and forth uh about the business of the district. uh before we had consent agenda, we would sometimes have meetings that start at 5:30 uh p.m. and go through to midnight uh because we tried to discuss everything as we went along inside the meeting and we just didn't see that being productive. Um people seem to peel off after a little bit of discussion and uh those kinds of things. So uh Mr. I always appreciate you reminding us the how much work really goes into these meetings. Um the second thing is is that I do appreciate uh Lily being here. Um, I appreciate that very much uh because as was demonstrated this morning uh with the uh smart students in the wellness uh room um there uh is a great emphasis by this board on making sure

021that we're listening to our students. So for one to be here with us is very important. You know, one of the things I was able to attend the event this morning uh unveiling the wellness room by our student smart group and uh a little bit about that process and uh when I think back on that process, it really does bring to mind uh all the work that goes into something like that. you know, uh, a while back, you know, our some of our board members really talked about the need to look to listen to our students. And one of the things that becomes very apparent is that we up here who are u responsible for policy decisions, we look at most everything through adult eyes. We are part of an institution that is uh made

022up of adults with authority and responsibility and you know and I and I give uh some kudos to uh Miss Derkin and Miss [clears throat] Varick who really initiated uh the idea of having a student voice group. Um and then also give uh recognition to my colleagues Miss Barnes and Bishop Parker uh for carrying through with a lot of what uh was happening. the wellness room and the recognition about uh student mental health uh which that was a part of uh really was somewhat an outgrowth from one of those committee meetings that I talked about. We have family and community engagement committee and uh it started with uh uh Mr. for Bishop Parker and myself, we were at at a conference out of town. We came back, we talked about that we would like to

023uh have uh our students, educate us about mental health from their perspective. And uh then um the committee changed a little bit. I was still on it. Miss Barnes was on it. Miss Barnes picked up the mantle and ran with what Mr. Bishop Parker and I had initiated and it culminated in also I'd like to give uh credit to Mr. bring them uh our staff who staffs that committee for uh uh bringing uh these things about uh and also making sure that we get uh our representatives from our parents and our students uh at these committee meetings. Um the and then I I want to say one more thing about uh at at the wellness uh at at the event this morning where we unveil the wellness room. I learned as what uh this Griffin

024has already stated is how many people contributed to that and a lot of the people in our community and by people I mean uh community groups and also businesses and it was our staff that goes out and they solicit uh along with our students support uh some of financial uh but much of it uh ju just support uh and giving our students U the the kind of support they need to move forward. Um it goes without saying, Dr. Grant, you have some ribs from your staff. You really do. And I even go to uh Mr. uh Rome's remarks in that every place that I go, I hear either from one group or another that's connected with our schools just how wonderful our staff are and and and the great things that we're doing. So, I

025just want to let you know that as I go through the day, go through the week, uh it just makes TPS proud. Thank you. [clears throat] All right. Uh that takes us to section six which is the consent agenda and that means that agenda items 6.01 through 6.32 are the consent agenda items. Board members may request to pull an item from the consent and move to the discussion section of the agenda if they wish. So with that, I'm going to go through the consent agenda. Item 6 0.01 uh through 6.03 is our human resources staff development and training committee which is chaired by Paulie Taylor Gerkin and co-chared by Randall Parker the third. Items 6.04 04 through 6.12 are the finance and business operations committee chaired by myself Bob Vasquez co-chair Randall Parker III. Item

0266.13 is the workforce involvement and partnership committee. There are no action items this month, but chair is Chris Barwick, co-chair, myself, Vasquez. Item 6.14 through 6.16 is the board, curriculum, instruction, and academic excellence committee and that is chaired by Polly Taylor Berkin and co-chared by Chris Farber. Items 6.17 through 6.26 26 is the policy committee and that is chaired by myself Bob Vasquez and co-chared by Sheena Bar. Item 6.27 arts athletics and student activities committee no action items this month is chaired by Chris Varwick and co-chared by Rainbow Parker the third. Items 6.28 to 6.29 29 of the is the family and community engagement committee chair China Barnes and co-chair myself Bob Vasquez. Item 630 to and 6.32 is the approval of the board meeting minutes. I would request a motion to approve consent agenda

027items. >> So move second. >> Mr. that uh that has been approved, moved and seconded. Uh are there is there any further discussion? Hearing none, Mr. Court, would you please call the vote? >> Mrs. Ger, >> yes. >> Mrs. Bartley, >> yes. >> Mr. Best, >> yes. >> Miss Barnes, >> yes. >> Mr. Parker, >> yes. >> Thank you. Section seven of the agenda consists of reports and minutes from this month's committee meetings and are [clears throat] here for information and reference. No action is required. So we can proceed to section 8 of the agenda. Section 8 consists of discussion items 8.01 September 23rd 2025 instructional section. I'd like to request a motion to approve the September 23rd 2025 instructional section. So move second. >> It's been moved and second. Any discussion? Hearing none. Mr.

028Corman, would you please call the role? Mrs. Ger, >> yes. >> Mrs. Barwick, >> abstain. >> Mr. Vasquez, yes. Miss Barnes, >> yes. >> Mr. Parker, >> yes. >> Thank you. Section 8.02 02 is the September 23rd, 2025 non-certified section. I would like to request a motion to approve the September 23rd, 2025 non-certified section. So move second. >> It's been moved and second. Any discussion? Hearing none, Mr. Corman, would you please call the vote? >> Mrs. Ger, >> yes. >> Mrs. Vwig, >> abstain. >> Mr. Vasquez, >> yes. Miss Barnes, >> yes. >> Mr. Barker, >> yes. >> 8.03 is a resolution for Hispan Hispanic Heritage Month and uh that resolution will be read by uh Miss Sheen. >> Thank you, Mr. President. A resolution recognizing Hispanic Heritage Month. Whereas National Hispanic Heritage Month is

029celebrated annually from September 15th through October 15th to recognize the contributions and positive influence of Hispanic and Latino Americans have played in shaping the history, culture, and achievements of our nations. And whereas what began as Hispan Hispanic Heritages Week in 1968 under President Lyndon B. Johnson was extended to National Hispanic Heritages Month in 1988 by President Ronald Reagan who saw the importance of expanding the opportunities to celebrate the histories, cultures, and contributions of Hispanic Americans whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Central and South America. And whereas this year's theme for National Hispanic Heritage Month is preserving legacy, building futures, empowering communities through heritage, this theme emphasize the importance of connecting with and protecting the country's country riches culture and heritage. recognizing its role and strengths in communities and shaping a vibrant future

030for generations to come. Our district is dedicated to promoting inclusive education that honors the diverse backgrounds of all students and that commits commitment can be seen daily not only at our at schools across our district. And whereas Hispanic heritage, I'm sorry. Whereas Hispanic Latino Americans have played a pivotal role in shaping the history, culture, and achievements of our nation, Hispanic Heritages Month allows us to highlight those trailers who push the limits through innovation, leadership, and unwavering dedication to progress in various fields, including education, science, business, the arts, and social justice. nurses as serve as an inspiration to other others. And whereas the new public school encouraged all students, staff, members of the community to engage in activities, lessons, and events that highlight the history, culture, and contributions of Hispanic, Latino, Latino uh individuals during Hispanic

031Heritage Month and throughout the year. Therefore, be it resolved the Tito Public School Board of Education hereby recognize and celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month 2025. >> Thank you, Miss Byron. I would like to request a motion to approve the resolution for Hispanic Heritage Mon. >> It's been moved and seconded. Any discussion? >> I would absolutely support this resolution. I love how there's a certain part of the resolution that sticks out. Our district always dedicated to promoting inclusive education that honors the diverse backgrounds of all students. Uh that repres representation that I talked about earlier makes up who we are as a district. So even celebrate this month highlighting Hispanic Heritage Month. I will always support resolutions that um our district puts forth that really promotes all of our students regardless of their background. Thank you. >>

032Thank you. Any other? >> Sure. Thank you, Mr. President. I I was going to say something similar about um how these resolutions really exemplify again being TBS proud and our willingness our willingness but our determination to continue to uh bring forward our intentions, our solid intentions for uh providing inclusive uh learning spaces as well as uh celebrating uh celebrating differences and diversity and I think I said the word diversity and inclusion in the same sentence. So um somebody write that down and make sure that I'm in trouble for it or something. Um aside from that I I think we we also back to the smart students we're talking about so many things smart students are doing today. I think they have their first an their first um event at the Sophia Center where I think

033we have an opportunity for that cultural center to bring to life this notion of celebrating Hispanic heritage directly to our smart students in uh in real time as they were further developing uh their their own leadership skills. So that was kind of a cool and happy uh happy arrangement that I has all come together for our smart students as well as uh this um month of celebrating Hispanics heritage. So TPS proud to be supporting us. >> Thank you Mr. President. Um, I am so excited that I am able to serve, but also uh be a proud parent of a district that sees all their students, staff, and family members. Um, one of the things that I I learned um at a retreat for my job was it's easy to leave the community, but the village

034stays with you. and and have you thinking about when we are building right now um whatever you may say for resistance resilience for the future uh we have to build a village um you have to have buy in and I know these are papers these are words but I am so honored to be in the in a position to see the works that these words are doing in our community in our village in our district and I am so proud to know that we do not just talk the talk but we walk the walk and that's very important in this time right now and so I will be definitely supporting this resolution. Thank you Mr. President. >> Thank you. Any other comments? >> Sure. Just quickly um I certainly will be supporting this as well.

035I think it's um I I love the uh um the theme this year, preserving legacy, building futures, and empowering communities through heritage. Um it was very meaningful. I think uh it was lovely that we were able to um have our sports academy not only do the pledge of English and Spanish, our bilingual academy. Not many students or not many uh districts have a bilingual academy. And once again, TPS is giving away. So that's all. >> And I always save my comments uh for the last comments. Um I I guess I just want to say that uh Miss Barnes and I went back and forth about who should read this resolution. Um, and one of the reasons we did it is is that the being Hispanic myself, if I read the resolution, I think it seems

036to be a little self- serving. Uh, that somehow I'm, you know, congratulating myself about any contributions I I might have made. Uh, but what I really like is that [clears throat] my colleagues are not afraid to do that on my behalf. Um I think it's really important that from uh when we talk about education we talk about the fact that we do uh educate all students to come to our campus and that there are many contributions from all parts of our community and I just really love the support of of my colleagues. I love the support of superintendent, his staff, all of our staff. Uh I I'm sure that Mr. RmIrez will support me in saying that we do as a Hispanic community, give a lot back to our community. Um I know one uh

037thing I'm proud of is my family. My family is filled with professors, educators, fire, policemen, every aspect that you can think of this community. So, I'm very proud of my family as Hispanics and giving back. So, having said that, uh, if there's no further discussion, I'd entertain a motion to pass this resolution. No, we already did. >> Mr. Cork, >> Mrs. Car, >> yes, >> Mrs. Farway. >> Yes. >> Mr. Vasquez. >> Yes. >> Miss Barnes. >> Yes. >> Mr. Parker. >> Yes. >> Thank you. >> Section nine consists of walk-ins. Are there any walk-ins? No. See no walk-ins committee. Section 10 is the early childhood education action items. And I'll turn that over to chair R. This time I'll turn over Mr. Thank you. We do have item 10.01, the revised TPS Head Start

038fiscal services plan. Uh this is in front of you this evening due to the fact that it needs to be updated every two years by the office of Head Start. This plan aligns with latest uniform guidance as well as Head Start performance and district policy. >> Thank you. Um I would request a motion to approve TPS Head Start fiscal services plan revised. So move >> second >> been moved and second any further discussion hearing Mr. Court please call the role >> Mrs. >> yes >> Mrs. Barwin >> yes >> Mr. Vasquez >> yes >> Miss Barnes >> yes >> Mr. Parker. >> Yes. >> Thank you. Section 11 of the agenda consists of early childhood education reports and minutes from this month's committee meetings and are provided for your information and reference. No actions required.

039So we can proceed to section 12 the early childhood education walkins. Uh are there any uh early childhood education walkins? All right. We have no walkins. So that takes us to section uh 13 which are through 15 which are comments and we'll start with the superintendent again regarding this March group. Want to uh recognize Lily down here. She's she's a little bit modest but Lily is going to be the first graduating class of the premed science academy saying Lily was showcasing at today's event. She holds multiple certifications already prior graduating and working on a new Lord. By the time she's done, she'll have over $100,000 worth of certifications before she's starting one day outside of TPS. And that all very diligent, but more importantly, her class will all be achieving nowhere less than 10 certifications.

040Uh but they all have a plan on how they're going to pay for their final two years if not scholarship. So congratulations being two steps ahead. And last, we got uh events coming up. Uh again, uh if you haven't seen some of the tours, the one that I was open of our aviation school, uh but now you speak to the young lady, she was reading off all the cockpit gauges as it did with the car. I most don't even know what the gau car is and she's going to an airplane like you wouldn't believe. But all the students were in representation. Uh you'll see another festivity uh in October, which October 25th. Our natural scientists are teaming up with Paul STEM Academy and putting on a a great event and uh they have really uh

041remodeled the entire place exhibit. The crocodile which is cayman have been remodeled. Uh they've add more animals, reptiles, so something to see as we get into it. The comprehensive we're working on their date for the tour as well. So again, thank you for your support. Keep your problem. Thank you, Dr. Durant. Uh, Mr. Corman, any uh on behalf of the treasures uh division? No. Thank you. All right. Thanks. All right. I'm going to go back down this way and go to uh uh Mr. Park. I really Thank you. Have a good night. >> Thank you. I have nothing to have good night. >> You know, have something to say. I just want to make sure um that we keep championing to teach the truth. Um, when you do not learn history, you're going to repeat

042it. That's where we are at right now. So, please take some time out, read some history, learn from history, and let's not repeat it again. >> Thank you, Miss Robert. >> Yep. >> And I have no further comments. So, next I would request a motion to move. >> Second. Any discussion? Hearing Mr. Would you please call Mrs. [laughter] >> Yes. >> Mrs. Bar? >> Yes. >> Mr. Vasquez. >> Yes. >> Miss Barnes. >> Yes. >> Mr. Parker. >> Yes. >> Thank you.
