His leadership reshaped education in this country and expanded opportunity for generations of students. As Justice Marshall once said, none of us got where we are solely by pulling ourselves up um by our foot bootstraps. We got here because somebody reached down and helped us up. As a board, we have both the responsibility and the privilege to continue that work. honoring progress, celebrating achievement, and remaining intentional about moving forward together. That commitment is reflected through our district. This month, our schools are celebrating Black History Month um through our door decorations and a variety of building level activities. Um I want to especially recognize the Twinsburg High School Black History Club um who designed this year's 100th commemorative Black History Month shirts um which were on sale um through RDP. um their Black History Month program is

this month on Wednesday, February 25th at the high school. Um and they will have a vendor fair there as well. So um if you are able, we encourage you all to attend that event and support our students. Also, as a board, we will celebrate Black History Month at our next board meeting on February 18th. Um we'll be wearing our black history shirts as well as we'll have one of our students that I mentioned perform the black national um anthem. I wanted to give you an update on the superintendent search. Um currently with our agency finding leaders um I got an update that we're around 27 to 29 applications. So uh a lot of interest. So we're excited about that. Um they are doing their process with interviews. I think they're about like 15 in right

now. um their next step will be to present to our board before our board meeting. Um we will uh see um hear that feedback and then decide as a board how we're going to move forward with the candidates that we're going to um interview. The board um will do interviews on February 24th and 25th. Um we'll have those two days where we'll interview those candidates and then from there um the next step will be you know to do our final who we decide will be our final candidates and then we will have the community involved um and so that um whether the community, the staff, students, we want everybody to have a voice as to who your next superintendent will be. So we're excited for that process and um happy to get that started. Um,

I also wanted to take time to congratulate several of our student athletes who signed earlier today um, at the high school um, about their athletic careers at the collegiate level. Um, Mario Sanders will be going to um, Lake Erie College for men's soccer. Um, Taylor Pucky for and and Bardo University for volleyball. Um, Gho will be going to Slippery Rock University for football and R.J. Ruffin will also be attending Slippery Rock University for football. So that's exciting to see our students excelling um and um going to college on um scholarships. Um so congratulations to them on that achievement. Also in the arts, we proudly recognize Twinsburg High School junior manon um Sigdil who performed this weekend as a member of the Ohio Music Education Association for 2026 all state band. um he um represented the

top musicians in the state of Ohio and performed on January 30th at in Columbus at the convention center um under the direction of Steven Pratt and um so we're proud of him and then also Nicholas Povitz and Kaden Hon Honiker um on their exceptional performances at the OMA all state orchestra they were selected from more than 1,200 students statewide Nicholas was named a top 10 vin V violist and Kaden was selected as the second ranked um um cello in Ohio. Um so we're proud of those students. Um also want to give a shout out to our great expectations show choir. They placed fourth um in our finals in Columbus this past weekend. Um and then they are also hosting our North Coast Invitational this weekend at the high school. Um so this is one of

their biggest fundraiser events that they host their high schools. So, if you're able to attend, please come out to that in support. Um, also wanted to thank everyone who was able to attend and volunteer at the Tab David Marola wrestling tournament um, two weeks ago. Um, thanks for your time and dedication and the TAB for um, all the work that they did with that. And then lastly, I want to close and just recognize all of our winter sports teams. They are continue to have a strong season. Um, and as the season begins to wrap up, just continue to support our students and attend any events that you can. Um, so thank you again for all that you do. And I'll turn my um, report over to Superintendent Marlin. >> Thank you, President Crawford. Welcome everyone.

>> Thanks for being here recognizing our students. We really appreciate it. Before we begin recognizing our students, I would like to call one of our third grade teachers, Mrs. Doyle. She's looking forward to this up and she's going to uh give us a little presentation on behalf of the Twinsburg Education Association. Thank you for being here, Mr. Doyle. >> Thank you so much for having us. >> You can take that mic if we want to hear you. >> Can I have my little kindergarters who might have their shirts if you want to come up and stand up here and show off a little bit? >> Look at those boots, girlfriend. I love those. >> Pretty cute. Oh, thanks. on. Yes. Um, hi, my name is Allison Doyle and this is Mary Bolinsky. We are both

teachers at Bissell Elementary and this is Molly Manley and she's a teacher at the high school. Teacher O's in the back hiding back there, but he is also a part of this. Um, we have come tonight to share a small idea that has a big purpose. The Twinsburg Education Association purchased these t-shirts for our kindergarters that say kicking it off kindergarten style. And as you can tell, they're a little bit too big, and that's on purpose because we want them to grow into them year after year. Just like they're growing into their love of learning and becoming part of our Twinsburg learning community, but this is also a part of a larger goal for TEA, we are working to increase our footprint in the community. Um, we want to strengthen the bond we have with

each other, with our students, our families, with the community that reaches out to us as a school district. We also want people to see TEA as not only an organization but as a group of educators who care deeply and who show up. We're getting more involved and some examples of that are our annual kindergarten shirts which we are going to do from now on. We're going to participate in trunk or treat. We're reconnecting with all of our retired tea because they are a wealth of knowledge that we want them to continue to share. We're supporting bond issues in a better and uh more involved way promise. um and continuing to find meaningful ways. As a matter of fact, we are developing a new TEA logo and each year we are going to have a Twinsburg

um artist redesign the logo every year. So, we'll have some input from them. We just want to thank the board of education and the administration for supporting all of our efforts. We know that together as a community, we thrive and everything means more if we do it as a team. So, thank you very much for having us. And now, I'm going to turn it over to Miss Manley. He's going to tell you a little something about an activity that the kindergarteners and their shirts get to participate in. >> Thank you. >> Hello everybody. These great looking t-shirts with the small children. They're so cute. They are going to be their first outing is going to be at the boys basketball game on Friday. So on Friday, uh it is senior night for the boys at

the basketball game. They're going to have their little senior things going on and then these beautiful kids in their t-shirts are going to come in and make a tunnel for the boys as they come out to start their game. >> So part of that is that the kids and one of their parents will get in free and we want just as many of them to show the seniors, hey, we're here. We got you. And there's the future right here. So that's one of the things. And then next year, we're hoping to get these t-shirts out a little bit earlier for the kids so we can do one of these at a football game for the kids and use that throughout the year. >> And that's all. >> That's nice. >> Thank you so much. >>

Thank you, Mrs. Doyle, Miss Manley, Miss Blinsky. Thank you. The shirts look awesome. >> Class of 38. Yeah, that makes I was a class of 80. I'll just to be honest with you, I was a class of 80. So, that was a long time ago. I shouldn't tell you that. Um, well, congratulations and thank you for being here. And now, I'd like to uh begin by recognizing our students of the month. And and before that usually what happens is people recognize the students of month and then release and then I try to stay as feel like you all are so valuable in the lives of these children whether you're a parent, a grandparent, a neighbor, a teacher, a classified staff member, bus driver, whoever you are, you're critical to the the success of our kids.

So I want to thank you before you run off. I want to thank you for what you do because this doesn't happen without support. So um I appreciate it. I know our board appreciates it. So, we really thank you for what you do for our kids. It's so often we see them over and over again, whether it be on a a football field or on a on the show choir stage Saturday night. We see them over and over again. That sex success wouldn't happen without the support that you all of you give. So, thank you very much for that. With that, I'm going to turn it over to Will Cox, Mr. Aie. Let's come up and recognize our Willox students of the month, please. Good evening, Twinsburg Board of Education, Superintendent Marlo and Twinsburg community.

Willox pledge. Willox rocks because of Liam. So, boys and girls, if you could hold your certificates up in front of you just like this. Turn them around so they're facing the your moms and dads. If you want to take this opportunity to grab some pictures. Teachers, if you want to stand behind the students, you could stay there. Leo, look out this way. Excellent. One more round of applause for our Wiltox rock students this evening. All right, boys and girls, you may go find your parents and we're going to transition from Willox being in here to Mr. Holland and Dodge. Um, but we also we teach kids uh, kids skills on how just to navigate life and be a good student, uh, Twinsburg resident, and uh, someone who give back to their community. So, thanks to all the families and friends and support systems out in the audience. This is why we have such a fantastic school. Congratulations, students

of the month. Thank you again for all this. Good job. At this time, I'd like to have our central office team give a strategic planning update. Our focus is on four main areas. Parent engagement and communication, teaching and learning, culture and safety, and financial sustainability. What I'd like to do is start off with Mr. Sedlac, who is our director of human resources. Thank you. Good evening. Uh so, as Mr. Carlo said we um have four strategic goals this uh school year and I am focusing on the communications goal. Mr. Farley I was going to read them all. Oh, he just said them. Uh so like I said I was focusing on the uh parent engagement communication goal as part of human resources. Um, we wanted to ensure that the communication that was going home was

um, what the parents and community needed and that they were receiving the information they needed. So, we did what everyone loves and we sent out a survey. Um, we were delighted to find out that uh, 427 families did reply to the survey representing 732 students in our district encompassing all five buildings. Um so we're actually very happy with that turnout um from a survey. Uh we're also excited to see that 87.8% of the people felt very or somewhat connected to the school. Um those were the top two categories, very connected or somewhat connected. Um so we felt like we're obviously doing something pretty well uh with regards to communication and communicating with their families. Um it came out of the survey that parent square and email either directly from the teachers, the principles and district

administration was the best way and it was about the right amount. Um we asked questions kind of diving into um you know is it too much? They they had the opportunity to to delineate each category um but it was about the right amount. Um, I did go back to everyone's favorite plus and deltas. Um, as far as the results for what the parents had to say, um, positives being um, what what are we doing right with communication? The parents um, did feel like they were informed um, and connected with the schools. They appreciate the frequency of the communications from teachers, building administration, and district administration. They did like the adoption of parent square which we started last year. Um teacher responsiveness whether either via email or parent square um they replied that it builds trust

and we're doing that very well. So that's um a testament to all the stuff our teachers do to communicate back and forth with parents. um they appreciated being asked for feedback that came out in some of the open comments and that they did enjoy the classroom photos and updates which increases that connection. Um I think everyone's a little more apt to read a little more, dig a little deeper if they see pictures of students, especially if their kids are in the picture. Uh as far as deltas, what things can we do differently? How can we change? How could we improve? Um they were saying there were too many platforms. So, we have parents square and email, which they seem to like, but then there's websites, social media, all those different avenues. Um, and and that's

difficult to navigate, too, because you have some people that are on Facebook, you have some that are on Instagram, you have some that get our emails, you have some that don't get our emails because they don't have a kid in school. Um, and then you have the parents that are a part of all of them. So, as we're trying to hit through the use of things like Facebook or Instagram, you're trying to hit people that maybe aren't getting the weekly updates from Steve and things like that because they don't have a kid in the district. So, they don't really have a need to be uh communicated that way. But then the people that are getting those are saying, "Okay, well, great. I'm seeing it online. I'm seeing it um multiple places." And that that's a

little overload. Um, again that came up with the repeating information on the different platforms. So they're seeing, okay, you have this going on, you have this. Okay, well I heard it three times now. Well, to someone else it might only be one time. So, so we have to balance that. We have to be mindful of that. Um, again, the information overload timely or not timely enough. I think some uh based on reading some of the responses the parents might have the end of the day emails the digest version thank you of um parent square so they're not getting the emails until the end of the day because there was one comment made I'm hearing stuff on Facebook before before I get my emails or we're getting 16 emails all at the same time at the

end of the day. Well, that's a setting that we can communicate to them on on how to fix that. Um, keeping note of subject lines was a suggestion that came up a couple times like action needed or urgent or just an update, you know, so they know the urgency of that. Um, and then searchability versus attachments. Um, you know, making things directly in there versus having to click click multiple links. Again, that's something we can look into. uh possibly streamlining and then they said some of the messages are important but the information is kind of buried in the long message. So again we have to be mindful of maybe maybe switch some of those narratives into bullet points or things like that. So again it was great information. I was very proud of how many

responded. Um so we're going to keep moving that forward uh from there. uh parent engagement. Um being all of us being in schools for 20 30 plus years, uh parent engagement is such a key role in in just our students and parents being connected. Um my career, I've been third grade through 12th grade. Um I think we have all the grade levels represented. And I I don't really care what level you're at. Having that parent involvement is so important um to the buildings and to the relationships with the parents and community. Um here are just some pictures from Veterans Day. Uh if you've never been to a Veterans Day assembly at one of the schools, it's amazing um hearing the the Dodge students who just got their instruments and a month or two later they're

playing, you know, God bless America. America, you know, it's just amazing to see. Um, and then Bissell does a great job with inviting veterans back and w I mean, all the buildings have their own flavor for Veterans Day, but again, it's great to see. Um, it was snowing this year, so some of the outdoor activities were a little chilly. Um, but again, just having the veterans on campus and and having them sit with their students, um, or having the assembly where the kids are playing, you know, you get to see grandparents with their kids and it's it's just a special time for everybody. So, um, and then another parent engagement. Um, I don't know about this one, Will Cox, uh, invited to try the parkour course during PE classes. Uh, Mr. strictly. I don't think

there were any injuries, so you don't have to worry about that. Um, I would have been injured if I did that. Uh, so um, and then high school, they do the Tiger Tribune. There's always pictures honoring students and staff. And again, I think it's those pictures and parents seeing uh, staff members that their kids have or don't have. Again, it's just putting a face to the name and and getting that connection. And then obviously the fatherdaughter dance that Dodge has is just a special time with the dads and their daughters. So um you know I encourage our parents out there. I don't care if you're kids in the high school or the little grades, you know, be involved at the high school. There's always room to be involved at concession stands and PTA and just

continue to be involved because that's that's what makes our school special and you build those bonds. So, we're on our way with the strategic plan and communications and engagement. Yes. >> Maybe. Oh, with parent square. Is there a tracking to see like if every um student has a parent enrolled? because I know um there was a conversation with a team that we were some of the parents were like we don't have parents square and we're like how have you been going this long without communication about your child um and >> so there are analytics that we can see um we could certainly dive in and see if there's >> a student that doesn't have one I'd be surprised >> um but we can see how many have been read and how many actually were sent

and if there were some that were kicked back we can see that There are some parents who have not activated their account yet. So there is that but we are 100% contact contactable. >> Okay. So I had a question. I'm sorry. So for those parents who haven't signed up, can we reach out to them or is there a way to probably ping them? >> We do. We can we resend the um invitation. Even if they still don't do it, it's still like, yeah, >> maybe maybe we could pin a note to the kids back like they used to do back in the day [laughter] >> and then like to help because no because parent square is very informative like I agree with Rhonda for any parent to be able to go this long and not

have parent square. Parent Square is where all the information comes out at and it's great communicating with teachers and things of that nature. So, I was just trying to figure out like how can we get them on this boat with us. >> I got them the ones I know. We got them enrolled right away cuz we were like >> some of them were senior parents who um like it's senior year like there's stuff that's happening. We have there's stuff that we like the team sends out and they're like, "Oh, we didn't get this." So, like we made sure the parents that we knew of that didn't have it, we told them right away. But, um I think maybe like it really comes down to the teachers the best way is the teacher classrooms. >> Yeah.

We can work. No, you're good. Thank you. Now, Mr. Farley, >> good evening, Board of Education. It is a pleasure to present the progress towards the teaching and learning goal tonight. The first objective is to establish a comprehensive framework that enables our schools to effectively identify and address student academic, behavioral, social, emotional needs while ensuring timely and appropriate support that promotes student success and well-being. That's a really long sentence. Um, this year we have been working with SST8 to build capacity for our staff with the IMTSS process, which is Ohio's integrated multi-tered systems of support. Um, the Twinsburg City School District is a participant in Ohio's state personnel development grant, which we call SPDG or spedig. Um, this is a focus of the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce this year, and this graphic is

from them, and a lot of the communication that you see from the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce has this graphic with it. Um, and Mr. Bandara will also talk about um, IMTSS during his presentation. The second goal of teaching and learning or objective is to strengthen the K12 literacy instruction through evidence-based practices, professional development, and high quality materials to improve student reading and writing outcomes. We really spent a lot of our time during our professional development days in October, not October, but in the fall working on the science of reading in all content areas, whether it's a specialist area, whether it's high school, every area we focused on this year had some professional development in the science of reading. A few building highlights from teaching and learning under the umbrella of our portrait of

a graduate. Um, in Wilcox, some of the students in December focused on gingerbread, and their focus was on authentic and collaborative teaching and learning in preschool and kindergarten. Students followed a recipe to build a gingerbread man, did science experiments, solved riddles for a scavenger hunt around the school, designed and built houses, created life-sized gingerbread people, and wrote about their experiences. And then up at Twinsburg High School last week, we had an instant signing day. And these students in the bottom corner are all set and ready to go with Kent State University in the fall. And that was something that was new for the high school this year. Additionally, for teaching and learning, Samuel Bissell Elementary School welcomed the First T program and that is all about golfing. Um for three days, the students were introduced

to the game of golf and first TE also wrote a grant to help Samuel Bissell earn some golf equipment. Um and this first TE is now working with Dodge students and we started the partnership with firstte last school year at Wilcox. So um they they're making the rounds through the schools. And then our third objective is to strengthen the career and workforce readiness continuum to improve the district's college and career workforce and military readiness report card rating from a two to a three stars. And you'll see there's a picture of the report card. Um, we also are working with a program called Pathful. Um, and as a reminder, I know we talked about this back in September, but all of the work we're doing right now is for the students in the re that are

in the senior class this year, and their report card won't come out till 2027. Okay. So, so we kind of already know what's going to happen with our report card um, in the fall. So, this is we are working really hard for that future report card. And I know I've already said that, but I have to make sure we're clear on that. Um, and then lastly, with um, college and career readiness, this year we have the opportunity at RB Chamberlain Middle Middle School to have career exploration classes. So, students are working in the classes. Um, we have a focus on STEM classes, careers, and then we have non- STEM careers and the students are rotating through those courses. Um, and that has been an awesome opportunity for our students and um, we hope that they

will come on to a community focus show sometime in the future. Um, but that has been a very nice addition to the school and I think very proud of that. So, and now I'm going to turn it over to Ryan for culture and safety. >> Thank you. >> Good evening board. Thank you for the opportunity to present tonight about culture and safety. Um it's going to be split between Mr. um Strickland and myself as we talk about I'm going to take on the culture piece. Then Mr. Strickland's going to take on a little bit more of that safety um and some of those physical safety improvements that we've um continue to implement in our district. Um so starting off with the culture and safety piece, our district has a real focus this year on um

ensuring that collective um student and staff identity that promotes unity and belonging in an emotionally safe environment. And as Mrs. As far had mentioned before, um we were lucky enough to be reached out to by that state support team this year um to to receive that Spedig or you know funny name state personnel development grant this year. Um and it's really just provided opportunities for our staff to really learn and um you know to be able to have coverage for substitute teachers and um you just try to learn this um integrated MTSS process. Um we've been familiar with the MTSS the multi-tered system of support for a while um but now they've added that I part they integrate it. So integrating that behavioral side um along with that um that academic side of making sure

our students have the supports they need. Um so we're trying to do this. We're trying to do it consistently um and positively in all the buildings. So I'm going to touch on a little bit of what each building has been working on this year. And I'm clicking in two places. There we go. So um starting with our youngest learners over at Willox. Um I'm proud to report that Willox was recognized as a silver award PBIS school this year. Um so from last school year to the um they were recognized with that and really they focused a lot on um different lessons um done by u Mrs. Williams our um school counselor over there. Um one of the big things they were working on is the no place for hate. So if you've been in Wilcox

at all you see their big tree right in their their main lobby. Um and every student's name is up on that tree where they signed the pledge that they're going to contribute to not having you know any hateful thoughts, any hateful words or comments within that building. Um so they're working hard at that. Um they also um work on classroom lessons where they talk about being responsible um respectful and caring and safe. And then Mrs. Williams has also focused on recognizing feelings. Um really that's so important for our youngest learners to recognize how they're feeling and how their feelings may impact some of their actions. Um and then one other thing that they've been working on this year is um trying to make student leaders and learning about um schools around the world and how

some of those schools function around the world and how they do things very similar to us and very different than us. So, some of the great things that are happening over at Wilcox. When we move over to Bissell, um Bissell is um also recognized as a Silver Award PBIS school this year again. So, they've been, you know, had that award for a few years now. They're doing a great job over there. Um one of the great things they do to recognize their students is um their their book vending machine. I know we have these in a couple of our buildings right now and the students just love to um go down there. I know Mrs. Farthing has dreamed about these for years and years and years. Um but we've had these you know we've had

these book vending machines and the students earn their tokens um for showing the school um you know the school things um making sure that their respectful um organized achievement and responsibility or that roar acronym um they get to be they get their name pulled and they get to go down and um pick a book um which is just such a great reward for those students and they're so excited to hear their names called. Um, I know we were talking with a group today and they said Friday mornings are quite the busy time at Bissell because they're pulling all those different names for um all the different awards they can they can earn there. So, our students are doing just a great job there. As we move on to Dodge, um I think one of my

not to brag, I think one of my favorite events of the whole um year always is that um student versus staff basketball game. Um I don't think you get anything um better than that. I think it's uh it it rivals any sports arena out there when you walk into that gym. Um I think my ears are still ringing from that December um date. So um but it's all a part of their um PBIS gold award. Um they've been a gold award-winning um building now for two years in a row. And really it's it's the things here. It's the things that you saw a little earlier when um when Mr. 6 pulled out those Tiger tickets. Um those are those are worth more than money to those students over there. um they work really hard to

earn those to earn um different events whether it's the basketball game um hopefully maybe weather will cooperate this year we'll get the outdoor foot the flag football game those type of things in place again so they're really excited about doing that and um you know making sure that all students could participate um I think I believe the uh the teachers might have squeaked out a win again this year but I think it was a very very close game um so we'll see how the students rebound in the um in the spring for that um basketball game if that or sorry football game if that's possible leading the way for our district. Um I just have to, you know, and they're not here today, but I'd like to brag that um you know, RB Chamberlain is

a fiveyear in a row um PBIS gold award winning um building. Um I think they invented the gold award for for RB Chamberlain because they've just been um you know, they've been doing that for so long. um whether it's their their quarterly block parties, um they're reinforcing those desired behaviors, their monthly meetings that they do with the students. Um you know, everything is building up into, you know, making our making sure our students understand the expectations um especially that middle school level, which is challenging. You know, our students really like to stretch their you know, kind of spread their wings a little bit at that level, but they do a really good job of trying to reinforce um those expectations on a regular basis and then reward those students as well. So um they also

do different things such as um you know their morning Crayola club the Crayola clubs sorry where they have you know students have the outlet to draw in the mornings um their weightlifting groups with Mr. Sanders um all these different things that really build that culture of making um making chamber one of those PBIS gold award buildings. So um and you know they've been like I said they've been recognized they're they're the ones that have been recognized five years in a row with this award. And then last but not least we get to talk about Twinsburg High School. Um I'm very proud to report to the board that um last year um Twinsburg High School was able to achieve that bronze award again. And that's really difficult at the high school level. If anyone you know

knows that that's how difficult the high school level to achieve that because in order to achieve that award you have to look at a few things. First off you have to look that you have the um leveled supports in place for the students. Um but they're also looking for that decrease in discipline numbers um from year to year. So really it's it's showing that they're doing both those things and you know and it's hard also you ask a student high school student what motivates them and it's usually things that we always can't do because they always want Chipotle and Chick-fil-A and raising canes and all these different things that we're not allowed to always provide for them. So we have to look creatively um to find different things. Um you know we had um we

have our great sports teams over there who are doing amazing things. You know we have our Lady Tigers basketball team who's just having an outstanding season. Um, one of my favorite events I think that we've done in a long time and I think it's going to become an annual event is that Buds basketball game. Um, we got to see some of our star athletes tonight um, here, but it was so fun to have um, our team compete against the Nardonia team um, in that in that halftime um, sorry in that in that between the games um, Buds basketball game this year. So, just a great great thing trying to bring that inclusiveness, that belongingness to all of our students. Um we have all different clubs, our magazine clubs over there. Um the Black History Club

does their annual um alumni panel which was done right before winter break. Um and again was very well attended. Um and then one of the great things and I wish it wasn't covered with snow right now and ice, but we have those senior parking spots were just amazing this year. Um they looked they look just outstanding. It really brought some life and color to that, you know, that black top this year and I look forward to you know seeing that being a tradition um moving forward for our se our students. So, um, those are all the exciting great things we have going on culture-wise. U, Mr. Strickland's going to talk a little bit about safety. >> Thank you, Mr. Bandera, members of the board and community. Um, just wanted to um talk kind of quickly,

but equally importantly, about um how we've put uh continue to put our metal detectors to work. Um, we've talked for a couple of school years now about how we've utilized them in the schools. Um, but one thing that was new this school year, um, I think this winter when we put these slides together felt like eight years ago because of the snow. Like January was 6 months long and I'm like, my god, when did we do that? And I saw the picture, there's a a very rare picture of Superintendent Marlo up there. Um, I caught him in action there helping with metal detectors at uh, football games. But, you know, um when the board expressed interest in us doing this, um I was terrified because I talked to other business managers and um Steve knows

how that goes. You network and you go, "Okay, who's done this? Nobody's done this." Great. Um so, here we are. Um but I felt like over the course of a few games, we really got a system down. And um what I appreciated the most was a couple of things. Um our residents and students really took well to it. Um they appreciated it. Um, I thought I'd get attitude and people kind of being stingy about it. Um, we had so many people thank us for doing it. Um, from both the home side and the visitor side. Um, so much so that I think a lot of other districts were expressing interest like, "Hey, can you let us know where you bought those? Um, how you came up with this process." Um, so I was pleased to

report that it went very well. Um, we didn't have any lines backing up due to the metal detectors. People were able to come through without any snags. So, we're proud of that. And then equally proud um on the safety component is our partnership and our relationship with the Twinsburg um city police department. Um they've really been invaluable. Uh they are experts in this as well. Um but then again, they've learned a lot from us. When we deployed these at Twinsburg High School, they had a lot of questions. They brought a lot of expertise, but it was also new territory um for them. So, I want to thank uh the police department as well um for doing that. And a couple times quite seriously um I'd have call offs maybe in my security staff and Superintendent

Marlo did help run the wands, run the table. So, he was instrumental in that as well. So, thank you for your support in that. Um the next slide, we continue to um utilize uh these metal detector units um at the high school level. Oh, I can I can do it. Sorry, Mrs. Farthing. I'm like, she's just typing away over there, ignoring me. Like, do your job, Mr. Strickland. Okay. So, that's why I'm not in technology, right? Okay. Um, so we continue to do these and uh the picture on the left shows um the mornings where we've um done the whole student body as they come in. And we set them up a lot like the football game. We've got the stansing gates and the tables. Uh we learned quickly. We had to have students pass

their Chromebooks around um dialing in the sensitivity to the units. Um but then you'll see um the right there, Mr. Bandaraa and I um we've gotten so good at this. Um sometimes uh Mr. Bandera told me he metal detected his family at Thanksgiving. So, um, just to show off his skills. But, um, but seriously, one thing we've adapted to do and we learned from other districts that use these, um, probably where we have the most success is we will allow all the students to come into the building and then we do random checks of classrooms. And what that looks like is, um, we will take these around on the cart. We'll set them up out in the hallway. Um, Principal Hunt will let the uh um classroom know that, hey, we're here to metal detect.

As the students come out and walk through the detectors, we have a security team and other administrators that then go in the room with the wands and they search the bags and this way you're not getting away with anything. Um, that's been our highest success rate at the high school. Um, so just wanted to report to the board that um, from the investments of our safety and security grant funds to buy these, we found um, new ways between football games and random searches to use these um, just to increase the safety in Twinsburg High School. Um, we do look to uh, do at least a couple of drills at the middle school before the year is over. Um, and then we'll continue to do them at athletic events and things as requested. So um, anyone

any questions around the metal detectors? All right. Thank you again so much. And at this time, I'll turn it over to our treasurer, Miss Julia Rosna. >> Good evening, Board of Education. I will um talk about our financial uh and sustainability um item of our strategic plan. And so a new finance committee was established in the past uh semester and we are grateful for the interest that was expressed by seven community members all with extensive financial background. We started our monthly meetings mid November um because we had the applications posted and then reviewed. So it was a little process in the beginning of the school year. Um, and then we have our monthly meetings and we appreciate the feedback and expertise that they each have to bring and to offer to our school district, especially

given the ongoing concerns around uh, public school finances and in particular with our uh, school district's deficit spending over the last six years. Um then um we have um implemented credit card readers for the athletic events at the beginning of the football season. So beginning of August um in order to ease the ticket purchasing process for our guests and accomplish a more secure handling and reconciliation of the ticket sales. Um my kids are adults. Um, and my son used to be on the football game. Um, and I was so proud to tell him one night that you're not here on the football field, but I'm still here on the football field. And we implemented credit card readers for the ticket sales. And he goes, "What? Mom, seriously? You You didn't have credit card readers yet?"

So, yes. I said, "No, we did not." But um we had these QR codes that our parents had to scan and then go through all the step to enter your information, credit card number, punch in on on your small screen on the phone and it it was just a little harder. So we do hope um we do want to keep with the demands of the growing technology needs of course of the society. So we try our best. Um so uh uh we managed to do it real well and uh I hope that we hope that the parents appreciate it and it just makes it much easier for all of us. Um and then on that same note, uh two of our teachers from the high school, uh Miss Abigail Todd and Mr. uh Matt Socrates

have expressed their interest to implement an electronic platform for the brewing abilities student team to be able to take payments uh from the teachers for the items that they sell um in the high school building. And so my office has worked on implementing a digital payment system for them. And uh we have loaded the whole cafe menu into hometown ticketing. Um and then uh we spoke basically it was a whole teamwork because then we reached out to Mr. Fanton who has the credit card readers and needs more of them during the football season but does not need them. though they're they were available for the um second semester to basically borrow them over to the other team. So we take a better return on our investment on those type of things to use them during

the off season in the sports department in the school building for the brewing abilities team. Um and this helps the students tremendously. Um they have to handle less cash. um the items each of the item the menu is entered in the system they need to punch in or what somebody is ordering and buying and then the price is going to get added for a tool. Um so um the T teachers have expressed their gratitude and they are very excited to uh have this available to them um for the students to use. Um and it it it helps grow the students skills basically and get them ready for this type of work environment. Um so furthermore we have implemented some efficiencies uh within internal processes in the treasurer's office uh for example reconciling student fees food

service and pay to participate payments to uh the bank deposits and not not to be misunderstood we re we always reconcile them but we just found better ways to put things together and be quicker faster at it. And then um we have added additional information to the W2 forms this year for overtime reporting. It's a new thing that the IRS has came out with, but they are not yet they haven't required it for last year to be on the W2. However, in order to help our employees, we took the step and and just did it. So, instead of them having to find their information, call us numerous times. We run different reports, we just did it for the whole district. So, we're basically ahead one step and one year to all other schools that did

not take the time to do it. But it helps our it reduces the time spent on it for my team to answer employees who potentially need this information because they can get um tax credit on their uh tax return this spring. And then we have also offered a paperless option for our employees for the W2s. We also still have printed them this year. I think next year might be the first year when we need to go because our information technology center will be telling us that we need to move to uh all electronic but we started to give that option so people start getting used to it and we can help them on where to find them and how to access them in their electronic uh platform system. Uh it's called employee selfservice system. And

then um as a result as we all know of the October 4-year forecast submission to department of education and workforce the district has received a fiscal precautionary letter. Um the administrative team started right away working together on a proposal to reduce deficit spending for the current year. a cost reduction plan proposal to start in fiscal year 27 and all in an attempt to eliminate the fiscal year 28 negative cash reserves in this month's forecast that I will be presenting um at the next board meeting uh during the second quarter the finance committee and the board of education um have also met not not together I I just want clarify separate meetings, but the finance committee has met and the board of education has met to uh go over and review potential options for increasing revenues

for the district. And for the first time, a school district income tax was introduced as an alternative to the traditional local property tax millage levies, which particular concern given to the impact on residents living on fixed incomes. So that's our wrap-up for um the first semester on the finance platform. Thank you for your attention. Any questions? >> Thank you, Julia. >> Thank you, Jennifer, Mike, Matt. Thank you very much for your updates. Greatly appreciate it. >> As President Crawford said, uh in February, our country celebrates Black History Month to honor African-American culture. And during Black History Month, our school district honors the rich history, culture, and contributions of black Americans who have shaped our nation and our communities. And throughout the month, students and staff engage in meaningful activities, lessons, discussions that highlight the achievements.

And um it's a celebration. It's an opportunity for us to reflect on our past, but also deepen our understanding and foster respect and reaffirm our district's commitment to education, opportunity, and belonging for all of us. I want to thank our staff. I want to thank our board of ed education for supporting that. Uh next board meeting, we have our shirts. I'll be wearing our shirts. >> Yeah, thank you. Um, as you as President Crawford said too, we do have our North Coast Show choir this weekend. Big event here in Twinsburg. Many schools from around the state and even outside of our state will come and uh perform on the stage. It's really a great having having been in it with my children. Uh it's really a great event. So hopefully everyone will come and join

us. And that at this point in time completes my report. Thank you. >> Thank you. We have a committee update from Miss Egan um from the um buildings and ground committee. >> Yes. Thank you. We met this evening with the buildings and grounds committee um and some updates from from the team there. The first one is is that excuse me the the HVAC updates um we are working we have a a year agreement set up with the Campbell company um that will take us through the spring and summer but we're looking to work on an RFP um to put us to a three or fiveyear plan for a formal proposal. So we'll work on that um as time progresses. uh the new boiler installation for the RBC will happen uh later this week um to

start to get that kicked off. So, we're excited for that to to go through. And then the other big one is the u new track and surf uh surfer placement. So, that's the big thing that's going to be happening here in the next um springtime. We're looking to after our last one of our track meets in April, we'll go ahead and close down the facility at the track and we'll be partnering with NHS Nordonia High Schools to complete the rest of our meets and we'll be working with them to work um to share that time on their particular track. Um but the timeline for that is six to eight weeks and we're looking to be able to have that all completed um uh in time for the football and soccer seasons to kick off and

start their practices um in uh early August. So, that's a a big a big thing that we're working on. It'll kind of give a whole new look and feel um and and clean up and visual uplift as they said this evening um to the system or to the stadium um regarding as far as some new fencing, some um power washing of of this bleachers and just kind of giving everything, you know, a nice uplift uh and feel. So, we're really excited for that to happen as well. Uh that is all that I have to report unless you have anything to add or if Mr. Mr. has anything to add from this evening's report? >> Good. Thank you. Thanks. All right. Moving on. Um, treasures report. Um, number one, meeting minutes resolved that the Twinsburg Board

of Education approves the following meeting minutes. Board organizational meeting of January 7th, 2026. Special board meeting. Um, text budget public hearing of January 7th, 2026. And three, resolve that the Twinsburg Board of Education approves all expenditures for the month of December 2025 as reflected in the above name reports. Do I have a motion? >> So

moved by Mrs. Hamilton, >> second by Mrs. Egan. Any discussion? Mrs. Ms. Hamilton, >> yes. >> Mrs. Egan, >> yes. >> Miss Rush, >> yes. >> Mrs. Travis, >> yes. >> Mrs. Crawford, >> yes. And that passes 5. Um, correction to the resolution authorizing the advance of local taxes by the county fiscal officer for um tax year. It should say 2025 and payable in 2026. Um so whereas section 321.34A1 of the Ohio Revised Code states in part when the local authorities by resolution so requests the county auditor or fiscal officer shall pay the treasurer of or of any board of education any money that may be in the county treasury to the accounts of the local authorities respectively and lawfully applicable to the purpose of the current fiscal year in which the request is made.

Do I have a second? >> Second by Mrs. Travis. Any discussion? M Miss Rush, >> yes. >> Mrs. Travis, >> yes. >> Miss Hamilton, >> yes. >> Mrs. Egan, >> yes. >> Mrs. Crawford, >> yes. And that passes 5 Z. H action items. Personnel number one. Resolve that the Twinsburg Board of

Education accepts the certified staff recommendations detailed in the attached exhibit as per the date's terms and other ethical conditions specified pending satisfactory OC background checks and to resolve that the Tonesburg Board of Education accepts the classified staff recommendations detailed in the attached exhibit as per the dates terms and other applicable conditions specified pending satisfactory OC background checks. Do I have a motion? >> So moved by Mrs. um Egan, second by Mrs. Hamilton. Any discussion? Um I would just like to recognize um we do have some retirements um and Bush Busher, hopefully I said that right. Um as a cook manager at Dodge, um 30 years of service to the district. So thank you for all of um your service and everything you've done with our um staff and students every day. and uh Miss Donna
