Good evening everyone. Thank you for joining us tonight um for our meeting um Wednesday, October 22nd. We will now call the meeting to order at 6:29 p.m. Um Mr. Rosen, can you please call Mrs. Een? Here, Mrs. Hamilton here. Mrs. Travis here. >> Mrs. Davis >> here. >> All right. And if you're able um and um to stand, can you please stand for the pledge of allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands. One nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. >> All right. Good evening everyone to all of our community community members, staff, students, and parents. We're glad that you're able to join us tonight. We're excited to be able to celebrate you um for student um students of the month
for our schools [clears throat] at the high school, Dodge, and um Wilcox. So, thank you for being here. Um today, across the district, you'll notice everyone is wearing orange for recognition of Unity Day. Um, in 2022, um, during my first year as a board member, as well as my first year as the chairperson of diversity inclusion, um, I advocated for us to have Unity Day in the district. And I am happy and proud that this is a tradition that is still going today. And, um, Unity Day is just more than just wearing orange. It's a reminder of who we are as a community. It's a day to spread kindness, show acceptance, and celebrate inclusion. Every one of us are different, and that's what makes our schools and our world such a special place. You never
know what someone might be carrying with them. A worry, a challenge, or hurt that no one else has sees. But one small act of kindness, a smile, a hello, an invitation to play, or a word of encouragement can truly change someone's day or even their life. At Willox, our youngest Tigers learn about the buddy bench, a place where a child can go if they're looking for a friend to play with. I love that lesson because it's not just for kindergarteners. As we grow older, that message still matters. In [clears throat] every hallway, classroom, and lunchroom. Whether you're in fourth grade or in the 12th grade, there's always someone who might need a friend, a kind word, or a little encouragement. As adults, we must lead that way. Our students are watching how we treat each
other in our words, our actions, and even on social media. So, let's show them what it looks like to lift others up instead of tearing them down. Over the years, I've seen how one caring teacher, one kind classmate, or one friend who stood up against bullying can make a lifelong difference. I've met adults who still remember the person who believed in them when they were struggling and how that moment changed their path. That's the power of kindness. It matters. It always matters. I also want to share an anxiety opportunity coming up. Our Twinsburg Council PTA is hosting create with kindness event. It is in partnership with Tik Tok. It is a grant that they were able to get for our school district. So, it will be on Wednesday, November 6th at the high school auditorium.
It is from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. and everyone is welcome. So, it is free for everyone. Um, Elchi Bravo is actually hosting a dinner for everyone. So, if you're interested, um, go to the site, our council PTA site. You can register. Um, kids, it's really tailored for kids 13 and over. But, if you have, um, kids that are 12 and under, they still can come. They'll make sure that things are appropriate for their age and they will have, um, things available for everyone that is attending. So, make sure you're able to attend that event. Um tonight the board um will be taking action on hiring finding leaders who is our agency to assist us with our superintendent search. Um this is a critical and thoughtful step in our district's leadership journey. Um after we interviewed
several agencies um we chose finding leaders because it's no additional cost to us as a district as well as we are um all five of us on the board. We really wanted a lot of stakeholder engagement, meaning that we want um this group to be able to talk to our parents, our students, our community members, and our staff. And this group is allowing us to be able to have as many focus groups that we need to be able to accomplish that. So that's why uh we will take action tonight with moving forward with them. That journey um will actually start right away. Um we will you can expect to start to see uh receive communication on our website as well as through um you'll get notifications of when those focus groups will be happening but
we expect them to start happening actually next month. Um so we'll move the process along um probably with the application um the deadline will probably end for anyone interested in posting for superintendent will end in uh January and then um February the board will start the interview process. Um once we final umize who those candidates will be, we will then want to engage you as a community again because we want you involved in that final process. So, we'll ask you to come on in again, see who you think will be the best superintendent choice, and then we'll make our decision as a board. So, that uh uh we want you um we want this process to be as transparent and inclusive as possible for our parents and community. Um >> as we shared at our
last board meeting, our flag financial forecast shows that we'll be facing some tough decisions um for the months ahead. Um those choices won't be easy, but they're necessary to make sure we continue to provide the highquality education our families expect and our students do deserve. So, we will continue as a board to make responsible decisions locally, but we also need the community. Um we need your voice at the state level. Um state funding challenges and new mandates will continue to impact our district. Um and advocacy really does matter. So, if you would like to help, you can um advocate and connect with the legislators. Um we will have information available on our website on how you can advocate. We'll have a toolkit available um with sample letters that you can write um so that you
can help um make a difference for the community. Um we also will be taking action um tonight with our final reading of the new cell phone policy um which is required by state law. It will take effect in January. Um so more information will be shared with the students and staff on how we'll proceed further once um that policy takes effect. Um there are a lot of wonderful things happening in our district this past weekend. Myself, Leah, and Maria, we were able to um go to the spooktacular event um for the city. Um we were able to um share district information and there was a lot of students and families. I think we had given away over 600 pieces of candy. Um it was a event that was really elevated. Um and they had a
hayride this year which was fun. Um last week I was able to attend the fall benefit concert for Twinsburg show choir. Um it was a great event which they uh featured great costumes uh talented singers as well as um the choreography was always amazing. And then um this weekend our orchestra um they actually uh partnered with the acting sympathy and they were at EJ Thomas Hall and they had the opportunity to perform um which is a great opportunity for these students. And then um tonight our volleyball team is in district finals. So we are hoping we get some updates that we are moving forward. So we're excited about that. And then this Friday is senior night for our marching band, our cheerleaders, as well as our football team. Um, this will be our last home
game before playoffs. So, we are hoping that we pull up a big win because it will be our best record yet if we're able to do it. So, we are asking you as a community to come out and show out um this Friday. So, um that is all I have. continue to um look up look for different events updates through our district mobile app and thank you for attending tonight. >> I'll turn it over to >> Thank you, Mr. Crawford. Welcome everyone. I would like to begin my report by recognizing our students of the month and we want to congratulate you before you you're recognized. We're going to start with Will Cox Primary School >> and Miss Turner if she would be so kind to come up here and assist us in that recognition. >>
Thank you so much, Mr. Good evening, everyone. Um, thank you families for being here tonight. I know the weather's starting to change out there. So, fall has finally um hit Twinsburg, Ohio, hasn't it? Um so um every week, every day, we start our school day with the Willox pledge. And in the Willox pledge, our students learn what it means to be responsible, respectful, caring, and safe. Then our teachers spend a lot of time at the beginning of the year teaching those really big words to our students and giving them examples of how um they can show those things throughout their day whether they're at school or um in on the bus or in at the playground or in the community. Um, so when we call our Willox Rock students up today, those are students who
are exemplifying the Will Cox pledge every day. Um, and showing all those great skills to their classmates and our staff. Um, and they are nominated by their teachers. So, um, some of our teachers were able to make it here tonight. So, if you are here, um, please come on up with your student. Um, and so I'm going to start with a first grader. Oh, and boys and girls, when you come up, Mrs. Croproad is going to have a pin for you and I have a certificate for you and then we're going to stand up here because we're super proud and we want to take some pictures, okay? Inside and outside the classroom, Braden shows how to be responsible and respectful. Braden is a very caring and hardworking student, and Mr. Ivansic is very grateful to have him in his class.
Braden is a prime example of why Will Paps rocks. [applause] Our next first grader is Maya Williams. And Maya is in Mrs. Lin's classroom. [applause] Maya, here's your certificate. Okay. Maya. Maya is new to our district, but it has not taken her long to adjust to her new environment. She is everything a teacher could ask for in a student. Maya is responsible, respectful, caring, and safe. Her positive attitude and caring actions make her make our classroom a better place. [applause] And finally, we have a preschool student from Mrs. Coleman's class. And we have Leo. Leo, you want to I know Mrs. Coleman. Coleman got sick today, so I don't think she's gonna be here. But you come on, [applause] >> Leo. This is Leo Commander Tori. And Leo is a kind. [applause] >> [laughter] >> You're welcome to stay and hear my report. Okay. tomorrow. How are you? Thank you. Congrats. >> See
you tomorrow. >> It was a sister that got very hard. I love it. I don't deserve it. want to pick dinner. >> I don't want to hear, but as we close our fall season, we have a lot of events and activities going on tonight. We have volleyball and soccer. We have events every night. Encourage our community to go and visit our school. I believe they play Saturday. >> So, a lot of events going on, a lot of activities. Our kids are working very hard. So, appreciate everyone support for our students. >> We are, as Mr. said, we have our last >> home football game. Thank you. It was wonderful. We're going to continue our metal detection equipment that we purchased. We're going to continue to do that. Again, very positive comments about that. So, we're
going to continue to do that. >> Thank you so much. I appreciate it. >> I'd like to just go over our goals, a draft of our goals. No. Um, >> and I think you all have those in front of you. >> We had it emailed to us. >> Okay. >> But I don't think it's >> I just like to go over our goals. I know that uh I sent them out a couple weeks ago just to review. Um, and again, we have a a number of goals. The first one, parent engagement and communication. Our vision is to provide trust by communicating hopefully, celebrating successes, forming strong partnerships with the community based on shared goals and values. And our our first goal is refine internal and external communication systems to ensure consistent, transparent, engaging messaging across
the district with a focus on building level communication and parent engagement. Second, strengthen building to building transition. We heard a lot about that transitioning from building to building. So we want to focus on that uh to support student success and family engagement by developing clear consistent practices that prepare students and inform families about academic extracurricular and developmental expectations at each level. Again that transition from building to building you've heard a lot about to our teaching and learning goal. Our vision is to provide opportunities for students to become open-minded, collaborative, agile, engaged, and globally aware learners through innovative and effective teaching methods. Can we equip educators to prepare students for success in an ever evolving world? What will we do? Will regularly refine instructional practices and programs to ensure they are inclusive, evidence-based, responsive, and aligned
to student needs. And then culture and safety. We want to provide trust by communicating openly, celebrating successes, and forming strong partnerships with community based on shared goals and values. And here's what we're going to do. Generate a shared collective identity that promotes unity, belonging in an emotionally safe environment. Continuously review and analyze safety related data to enhance, refine, and develop comprehensive physical safety protocols and procedures. And the last one is financial stability or s financial and sustainability. And again, we want to provide a clear and sustainable financial plan that supports the success of the Twinsburg City School District. By working together, using resources wisely, and planning ahead, we will build a strong foundation for the future. Here are our goals. We want to develop and maintain transparent, sustainable, and accountable financial plan that addresses the
current financial situation, ensures long-term fiscal responsibility, and prioritizes student achievement. That should be our priority, student achievement, and then review and revise the facilities master plan and oversee building projects, capital expenses, and purchases. Now, these goals are in front of you today. What we will do is if they're accepted by the board, we will go ahead and and work on um action steps and responsibilities like who's responsible for what goal and what action step. And again, as uh these goals are presented and if approved, that's our next step. As [clears throat] a team, we're going to work on the action steps to make sure that we we reach and attain each of these goals. >> Good. I was going to ask about so I'm glad that you covered like that you'll be the action steps
question. Um I know previously um when we did um have the goals we would have the um administrators report out at the board meeting. Are we looking to I know we discussed before like have um communicate it to like like parent square or something where like the parents are understanding how we're meeting these goals. Um >> yeah, I think we'll talk as a team and if we want to do a report at each at board meetings, we can absolutely do that to report that out so the community is aware of that.
