uh this evening we wanted to share with the community our plans for summer of 2025 I mentioned that the third quarter is over next Friday fourth quarter is starting on the 17th and before you know it it will be summer break and so now is the time to start planning for summer programming for our students so this evening our director of curriculum and Technology Mrs Jennifer Farthing and our director of pupil Services Mr Ryan bandiera are here tonight to share our plans for the coming summer months good evening everyone thank you for having us this will be brief it's an easy one uh just um one of the first pieces of information to share with you is that we will be offering Camp invention at Samuel Bissell Elementary School um we provide the space um

it is run it is run predominantly by our teachers however Camp invention is really in charge and right now we already have 122 students signed up for the camp so last year we were so large we had two camps in one and we will be that way again this year so we're excited um also there is an opportunity that went out to the students in their Google classroom today at the high school that we are looking for some leaders in training so those are 10th 11th and 12th graders who can earn community service hours um you know those students who may have an interest in working with students and and children and also maybe going into education this is a great opportunity for them so information about that is found in in their Google classroom

we also have Junior leaders in training as well for some younger students who may have that interest as well so and right now we would like to uh just make sure that uh all our dates are set but they are a little tentative just based on the work that needs to happen at the high school this summer so we are um sharing this with you this evening just knowing that there might be some slight changes um this year we would like to offer summer learning camp we have had summer learning Camp last year a slightly different way of doing it is we had it in June instead of in July August and we focused on reading and math with Rising first graders through fourth graders and it was just a huge hit last summer I

don't know if the difference was that we moved it early I I don't know but we had fantastic feedback from our teachers and students and uh last year for the first time we went on a field trip and we went to the Great Lake Science Center and some of the students that was their first opportunity to go there and it was also a great hit so um we will be focused on reading and math and the thing about this program is we will invite the students who are eligible to participate so the majority of the students that we would be inviting are most likely on a rimp a reading Improvement and monitoring plan so we kind of have our target audience already set and or these students are receiving reading and math intervention at will

Cox b or Dodge are the students we would be inviting um and this year one other slight difference with that is we will be using um City County money so the teachers will actually be employed through the es of Northeast Ohio and that to most people that will mean no nothing is different but for them their pay their salary would be coming from there so thank you for saying yes to that and next we will have high school credit recovery and that will be for three weeks it will be offered June 4th through the 25th no class on June 19th um 8 to 12 um this is a we will be asking for a teacher two teachers most likely an intervention specialist and hopefully a math instructor and students fund this course so we ask

that the students to pay $150 um in general students can earn one to two credits during that time it depends on uh it depends on motivation and you know if they're taking a half credit or whole credit but so students have that opportunity um and transportation is not provided this is predominantly for upper classmen that need to just get that boost and get that leg up or get that credit finished so it's predominantly um it's mostly Juniors going into their senior year to be ready for graduation and turn it over to Ryan good evening board um extended school year um is our program that we offer for students um who are on an individualized education program or an IEP um this is students that um may show that regression over those long breaks and then

have a more difficult time showing that recruitment of skills or trying to catch up catch back up um so we are planning um extended school year we always like to do it kind of right before um the school year starts to kind of make sure they're ready and um ready to go in our in our early August start um these dates are also possibly subject to change but hopefully these will be our um confirmed dates we usually run this as a 3-day a week program for three weeks leading up to the start of the school year and um we have not determined the exact need yet um but typically we um try to have about three different classrooms um based on the students um ages um we usually have intervention Specialists who run those um

a variety of instructional assistant who help out um with some of the students needs including some of the toileting or other needs that they might have and then um depending on the students needs um some of our related service providers including like our um speech pathologists or occupational therapists and physical therapy um so we will be meeting with those families here in the near future if there's a family that has any questions or concerns about this I always encourage them to contact UM their students some intervention Specialists and then in turn also contact my department as well thank you so much you thank you and then our next steps will be that we will start posting for the positions and then as soon as we have appropriate Staffing we will invite students because some years

we have staff who are all in and some years we kind of have to you know do little prodding so we don't want to invite students and not have Staffing for them um and then we will start planning for these opportunities unties as soon as um we have your approval and we can get moving and um these are some pictures from the science center last year Mrs Dew was sending them to me and the one I really wanted to send you was this youngster just zoned out on the bus he was so tired on the way back and it was pretty warm that day and he was just out cold on the way home so they had a fantastic time so do you have any questions for Ryan or I thank Youk you thank you

we just wanted to explain uh Mrs Farthing and Mr bandier both U mentioned dates and things pending um as you may remember last May Twinsburg High School suffered the lightning strike and we continue to um work through some things with respect to that when the lightning struck the high school it actually burned out a very important panel um in one of the rooms uh back off of the kitchen area and so I want to ask Mr stricklin to provide for you tonight A little update as to where we are with that uh you're sort of at the mercy of folks who are manufacturing this uh new panel um but we think these dates will work we're pretty confident but Mr Strickland has some news to share thank you superintendent powers and board um so we

are working with what makes this even more challenging we work with about four different parties between the insurance company the manufacturer the electrician that's going to do the install and then First Energy as well so we've got a lot of players in this um but we had some meetings with them early this week and um we feel like we've got good news we've gave them about a three or 4 week window um from late June to Mid July um they're going to Target as late in June early in July as we can we mention this because if you recall um one of the biggest struggles that we had when the high school went down is we lose internet connectivity and phone service at all of our buildings if the high school goes down um so

the the district will be forced to close and be remote uh during that time um in addition to one more layer we're coordinating with the city of Twinsburg because as this is all going on they've got some big work scheduled at the fitness center this summer and as you know their utilities are also tied into the high school um so there's a lot of communication a lot of coordinating going on um but we feel like we're far enough ahead of it um that we can pretty well commit to the dates we talked about tonight um just barring any unforeseen circumstances so um the really great news what I was excited about they shifted the manufacturing of the panels to Ohio based companies it was out of Indiana so that was creating a lag um we

got with the vendor and they've got um some manufacturers in Ohio um so that'll be nice it should save us quite a bit of time so good thank you we'll keep youall posted thank you for the update does that that concludes our reports for tonight thank you oh thank you Mr do we have any all right I will go ahead and read this persons wishing to address the Board of Education should submit a blue card found in the lobby to the treasurer prior to the meeting so they may be recognized by the board president and welcome to make comment no formal action will be taken on subjects that are not included on this agenda until the board has had an opportunity to study them comments regarding personnel must be submitted in writing through the office

of the superintendent all the though there is normally adequate time for citizens to express themselves at a board meeting if several people wish to speak each person will be allowed at 5 minutes until the total time of 30 minutes is used each person addressing the board is asked to give his or her name and address all right so the first card I have is Sarah Chapel hello good evening good evening my name is Sarah Chapel my address is 2258 demid Drive Twinsburg so I'm here tonight because I would like to submit a fact sheet from the naacp's legal defense Fund in response to the dear colleague letter that was sent to the Twinsburg City School District this past February I'm here to express how much I value the diversity my children get to be a

part of at this school district and I hope the board recognizes this is one of our greatest strengths therefore I'm asking the board to do the bare minimum if choosing to comply to these illegal and disgusting requests please do not comply early or over comply the fact sheet that I'm going to submit explains that the dear colleague letter does not change the law and today at 1: p.m. this afternoon the ACLU made a press release Poli which you could find at aclu.org stating that they are suing the US Department of Education over their unlawful attack against educational Equity our public schools are being bullied and the richness of our school's diversity its Equity mindset and its commitment to inclusion is under attack I hope you do whatever is necessary to fight back in order to

a safe special place for all children this is a confusing and contradictory mandate with the threat of loss of substantial funds Twinsburg City schools is expected to lose over 1.3 million of its budget if the district does not comply this includes all the title funds from the federal government as well as special education diversity equity and inclusion programming will be completely removed from our Public Schools the letter emphasized race as the main target but under diversity equity and inclusion others will also be impacted under Equity inclusion this affects our daughters granddaughters nieces sisters this impacts the handicapped and any student with special means no matter how severe it includes non English speakers those Under the Umbrella of LBGTQ plus these are our family our friends and our neighbors students need to be recognized for their

unique differences and their varying abilities students must be seen for the Blessed individuals that they are Twinsburg is a diverse Community many of us actually moved here because of the population and its diversity students will have empathy and become better human beings because of it we support the district in its responsibilities to keep the educational system strong in Twinsburg we have one request all the communication from the federal government should be posted on the district's website this is for the public we invite the public to engage in the dialogue we are here tonight to share our 77 years years of wisdom Marty and I feel that to be silent is to be complicit in this war against our future we promise our support of the Twinsburg City schools and pledge to keep it tiger strong
