I'm going to call the meeting to order. This meeting is a meeting of the West Seneca Local School District Board of Education in public for the purpose of conducting the West Seneca Local School District's business and is not to be considered a public community meeting. There is a time for public participation during the meeting as indicated in the agenda. [bell] Yeah, something's Erica, who is that backfeed? >> I turned mine off. I turned mine off. >> I'm not getting anything more. You got anything? >> Oh, yeah, I just >> Who's it? >> Oh. >> It's yours. >> I'm on. >> No, it's Ellen's. Oh, try again. Turn it on again. Okay. >> There we go. >> Hit the button. >> to one another. All right, call the roll, please. >> It's Ellen's fault? >> Mrs.
Claypool >> Here. >> Dr. Beers >> Here. >> Ms. Leavenworth >> Yes. >> Ms. Naylor >> Here. >> Mr. Widmar >> Here. >> Please stand and join me in the pledge. >> [clears throat] >> I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. >> Thank you. Um I am pleased to have and introduce our athletic director Brandon Stewart with uh as not to be outdone our spring athletes had a lot of wonderful news and the great victories this year. So Brandon is going to update us on those. >> Thank you. Yeah, I thought you know after the fall and the winter the spring was going to have a tough act to follow with
all the success that we saw throughout the fall and throughout the winter and they they lived up to the hype and and then some this spring and the spring obviously brings tons of challenges as it is with the weather games getting rescheduled meets getting rescheduled things moved around it's one of the shortest seasons cuz they basically can be outside for like maybe four weeks this year might have been shorter but still a lot of great success that we had this spring. I do want to say um a special thanks to Melody and transportation for all of their efforts in dealing with all of my last minute changes and you know the phone call at 2:00 says you know that trip that we're supposed to take the Perry will now it's going to Willoughby and they
were they were great with that also Mark and his crew for getting the fields ready as much as they did again obviously we have the baseball field that's turf but the outfield is still grass the the JV field and the the softball field constantly having to get those ready we played I think in the neighborhood of close to 20 home games between those two fields this year which was was awesome and we got full schedules in for all baseball and softball teams full schedules in for JV teams which was great and one of the coolest things were the couple of nights where we had a lacrosse game going on in the stadium varsity baseball game going on a JV baseball game and a varsity or JV softball game and all the fields were in use
and you could kind of look out and just see it was a parking nightmare but it was still pretty cool to see all of those fields being used up throughout the course of the spring. Now on to the important part and what our student athletes were able to accomplish this spring. We have a a of them here tonight and I'll bring them up here in just a second, but um our softball team who will recognize at a later meeting uh they were uh a lot of them were actually two of them were at the All-State dinner tonight. Uh they were named All-State. Uh Laili Percassi and uh Deonna Malone were both named All-State. Uh they were regional runners-up this year. Uh one game away from going to the state final four. Uh 22 wins on
the season. They had five players selected to the All-Conference team. Um just a tremendous season for them all the way around. Um and again we'll have them here in July, I think. There were just a lot of them out of town or at that All-State dinner tonight down in Columbus. So, we want to make sure we are able to recognize them as well, but uh a great run for them. A lot of people made it down to Kent State to see them play in the regional semi-final game that they upset the number one seed Elyria Catholic and you know, it's always fun when the the little public school from from Chesterhill can go down and take out the number one seed uh in Elyria Catholic. So, that was a fun one and then the score
really didn't wasn't really indicative of what they did against uh Field in the the final game. Um just a tough inning that they had, but making it to that regional final was was awesome for them. Um our baseball team won 17 games this year on the varsity level. Uh they had three kids selected to the All-District team. Um and Tyler Fink was uh the CVC MVP. Uh he got some All-State consideration as well. So, he had he had a great senior year uh leading them to 17 wins both as a pitcher, catcher, and and at the plate. Uh so, those guys those guys had a great uh run of it as well. Um and that kind of took care of our our baseball and our softball. And if I could have our track guys come
up here for just a minute. I think we have two of them here tonight. Again, a lot of people were out of town and uh away, but we do have two of them here. You guys can come stand right up over here. >> [clears throat] >> So, we have Ian and Mason um who were two state qualifiers for our boys track team this year. Um they were on the 4x8 relay team um that competed down in Columbus, and then also Ian was uh the the miler, and he was the state runner-up this year, finishing second in the state of Ohio. Yeah, definitely deserves >> [applause] >> big round of applause there. The time was kind of slow though. The mile was 4 minutes and 14 seconds. >> [laughter] >> I drove here and I think
I got here that quick, but But no, these two guys, they went down along with Jake Williams and Joel Labanovich down to Columbus and and really represented the program well. Um I think in and you got What time did you finally run the mile? Not the time you ran it in, but the time of night after all the weather delays and everything like that. When did you finally run? >> I think it was 9:30. >> Yeah, I think it was scheduled for like 6:37 or so, and then there were a couple lightning delays and hail delays, and obviously, you know, that they ran the 4 by 8 the day before and then came back to run the mile the next day. Just a >> time. Two, wasn't it? >> That was for regionals. Yeah, they
were at regionals during graduation as well, too. So, yeah, just a >> Ian's mother has already checked about graduation for next year, and there will be no conflict. I'm happy to report we will be graduating on [clears throat] Wednesday. So, we should be okay. >> Um but yeah, they did a great job down there representing as well. And on the girls side, Cara Deister, she can't be here tonight, but Cara qualified in four events. She made the podium in the in the in the long jump, and did a great job. Finishing up at four events to qualify at the state level was was just amazing for for her to do. And you know, she left I We said it at the senior awards night, how many all-districts and all-state performances that she had, but left
as a very well-decorated athlete as well. And I know these guys are also excited about the new track for next year as well, too. So, Ian said he's already ready to break his own record, so >> [laughter] >> the The track's going to going to lead the way for that. So, big round of applause for these guys for making their state qualifiers. [applause] >> Brilliant picture. >> That works, I guess. >> [laughter] >> Uh yeah, so that kind of wraps up uh the the spring season. I said we'll have our softball players here in the in the July meeting, I think. And then we also were planning on something for these guys as well as softball for one of the early home football games, probably week one since we're away after that to kind of
recognize them at at those games as well. But, it was a great year all the way across fall, winter, and and closing it out with the spring. And that's a testament first to these guys, the student athletes, and then our coaching staff who did a amazing job this year and all the support from this board and the administration all the way across to to provide what was a really good year to to build on going forward into to next year. And we're already planning and getting ready for next year's fall sports Wolverine Kickoff Classic now that I remembered the name, Sarah. On August 7th, so that's coming up on August 7th from 5:00 to 7:00 to start it again and and kind of pick up right where we left off with all the success from
this year. So, definitely excited moving forward. So, thank you guys very much. >> Thanks, Brent. Thank you. And obviously, Brandon, we want to congratulate you on a successful year and your leadership is very much respected and we are grateful for all your hard work because I know it's a time-consuming job you have. So, thanks. >> Thank you. >> Oh, I got to be in charge here. Uh, there are no public remarks. So, moving on. All right. Routine matters. Resolution 192 to to approve routine matters of West Ottawa Local Board of Education. >> So moved. >> Second. Roll call. Mrs. Claypole. >> Yes. >> Ms. Lovemore. >> Yes. >> Ms. Naylor. >> Yes. >> Mr. Widmar. >> Yes. >> Dr. Beers. >> Yes. >> I want to make a motion to adjourn. >> [laughter] >> What?
All right. Okay. All right. Financial resolution >> ringing up here, so I don't know if you guys are hearing >> Are you seeing Erica? We're getting feedback for the Anything? Do you hear it now? Keep your Keep them straight to what they're being told, but it's Ah. Pay attention. With me? Don't move. I don't hear it now. >> What if we just turn them off? Can you hear us if we turn it off? >> Okay, but can they get us on live stream? Probably not. >> Not really. You can't hear people talking off mic. >> [bell] >> Can you turn just turn down the gain on our mics? >> I guess cuz you guys are so close. >> No, it's a matter of where the speaker placement is versus our microphones. >> All right. >>
Okay. >> All right. >> You still got it a little bit hot. >> There we go. >> There you go. >> There we go. >> There. >> All right. >> Now you got it. >> All right. >> Good. >> Thank you. >> Financial [clears throat] resolution 193 to approve the warrants for May 2026. >> So moved. >> Second. >> Any discussion? Call the roll, please. Ms. Loveworth? >> Yes. >> Ms. Naylor? >> Yes. >> Mr. Bednar? >> Yes. >> Dr. Beers? >> Yes. >> Mrs. Claypole? >> I just had one question. The drones, was that for the roofs? If there was there was a check in there for like drone. >> Drone program. >> Yeah. >> It's a It's a program that we were looking for for us, Alan's group. >> Got it. Thank you.
Yes. >> Training. They had a training program and It's Opticon or something like that. >> That's >> All right. Resolution 194 to approve fund to fund transfers for the fiscal year 2026. >> So moved. >> Second. >> Any discussion? So, what we're going to do on the next couple of resolutions is close out 2026 and start 2027. So, you're going to see a few transfers, advances, and these will just be to close the books and make sure we haven't exceeded our appropriations. >> So. >> any way that you could I mean, we don't know what those numbers are. >> That's right. No, I'm just >> [laughter] >> I'm sorry. I can put in The 001 is our general fund. So, we're transferring from our general fund. The 003 is our PI fund, our permanent improvement
fund. 009 is our student um student fee fund. So, we collect money in that. And what the 6930 is we we are charged fees from Excel Tech. These are students that are on free and reduced lunch. So, we can't charge for those. So, the general fund fund has to make up that. And then 006 is our food services. Uh these are negative balances in our food services. So, every year we have to clean those out per federal law. So, this is a transfer to to clear those out. So. But, I'll make sure we have the names of the funds. Any further discussion? Call the roll, please. Ms. Naylor? >> Yes. >> Mr. Vidmar? >> Yes. >> Dr. Beers? >> Yes. >> Mrs. Claypole? >> Yes. >> Ms. Leverworth? >> Yes. >> All right. Resolution 195
to approve advances for funds in the 2025-2026 school year. >> So moved. >> Second. >> Any discussion? These are funds. So, we have federal funds and these are what we have at the end of the year. These are open purchase orders that we have ordered materials or we have a payment that are due in July, but we have to close them out in June. So, we make an advance. So, when we get the money cuz you it's on a reimbursement program. So, when we get the money, we'll pay it back in July. So, this is 516 is our IDEA funds. 584 is our title four funds. And 587 is our preschool funds um that we have about 12,000 dollars on that one. Call the roll, please. Mr. Vidmar? >> Yes. >> Dr. Beers? >> Yes.
>> Mrs. Claypole? >> Yes. >> Ms. Leverworth? >> Yes. >> Ms. Naylor? >> Yes. >> Resolution 196 is to prove the increases and decreases in appropriations. >> So move. >> Second. >> So you have a list of what increases we made and then the next resolution will just do the final appropriation. So it's the individual ones first and then the whole appropriation will be the resolution 197. Any other discussion? Call the roll, please. Dr. Beers. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Claypool. >> Yes. >> Ms. Leavenworth. >> Yes. >> Ms. Naylor. >> Yes. >> Mr. Bidmar. >> Yes. >> Resolution 197 is to approve the final appropriation for fiscal year 2026. >> So move. >> Second. Any discussion? Call the roll, please. Mrs. Claypool. >> Yes. >> Ms. Leavenworth. >> Yes. >> Ms. Naylor. >> Yes. >>
[clears throat] >> Mr. Bidmar. >> Yes. >> Dr. Beers. >> Yes. >> Resolution 198 is to approve the permanent appropriations for fiscal year 2027. >> So move. >> Second. >> Any discussion? >> Yes. So on this one So what when you approve the tax budget in February, so what we do is to start the new year we put the certificate of resources will be exactly what you approved in the with the tax budget. So we put that money in the appropriations. We estimate what those are in February. So that is also in there as well as the appropriation. So when we go to do the August forecast now, we will update it. We used to be we used to update it by they had to be permanent and updated by September 30th. We'll do that
a little early now that we have the the um forecast due on August 31st. So you'll get that and we'll have another approval of those. So this are kind of they're permanent in that they're not the 25% but they are we're allowing people to issue purchase orders off of these but we will have an update when we have the final forecast approved and you approve that in August. So, you'll have a chance cuz we'll probably reduce the general fund because we had overestimated cuz the way we had to do the tax budget this year. Any other discussion? Call the roll, please. Mrs. Claypole? Yes. Ms. Leavenworth? >> Yes. >> Ms. Naylor? >> Yes. >> Mr. Vidmar? >> Yes. >> Dr. Beers? >> Yes. >> Resolution 199 to accept donations. >> So moved. >> Any discussion?
You want to explain the >> Yeah, the LEAF donation, this is the one that um our Samantha Wyskin has asked LEAF to um do that there's a music fund that we have uh through LEAF, and they have generously donated $13,000 for our show choir risers. In that, we will also have a 5-year commitment of you know, recognizing the the program um in our you know, being our program any advertisements that we made for that, but that'll pretty much pay for those show choir show choir risers. >> And And who's LEAF? >> It's the Lake Geauga Educational Association Foundation. Um it's this in this fund that they have, this music fund that they have, uh is only for Geauga in Lake County for students that are participating in music, going to go off and major in
music, they have some funds available for our students as well. But, they usually do all of our uh they used to do all of our financial aid planning. >> LEAF does a lot of college and career transitional work, and so traditionally that's what they've done, but [clears throat] it's a foundation as well. So, this is the first of its kind that's specified for music, and Samantha is the inaugural recipient, so that's great for our kids. So, we're really proud of that. >> Yeah, that just seemed fantastic. It said William E. Kelley Music Fund or yeah. And um I just reading through that letter, it they they're you know, they get the you know, credit for have donating it, but it's also to incent incentivize >> Yes. >> you know, the risers being used. So, supporting
the music and arts through that. I thought that was a really >> And they >> great idea. >> Two other uh grants or not grants, but you know, money available for students that are majoring in music or theater that they would pay for auditions if they have to go to a college and do auditions. In addition to that, you might >> [bell] >> additional funds available uh if you have special voice lessons that you're you know, need help in paying for, they would also do that. So, any of our students that are looking at that type of college prep program, there's some available funds available for those families cuz that can get pretty expensive. >> Does this totally pay for the risers? >> The I cannot answer that. Yes, I believe so. >> Okay. >>
I can't answer that. Sorry. >> It sounded like it from the letter, but >> Can't do. >> That will be coming to you for approval, too. So, we'll clarify that before we move forward. for the purchase. >> Yeah, no, I understand. I just know that they were trying to raise money for a couple of different things associated with the choir. >> Yeah, the show choir [clears throat] >> Oh, this is just the show choir? I mean, wouldn't the risers be used for all choirs? >> there's also the shells that go behind that. That's a different >> Yeah, the right. I know. That the shell is different than risers. >> Yes. >> Any other discussion? Call the roll, please. >> Ms. Leatherwood? >> Yes. >> Ms. Naylor? >> Yes. >> Mr. Bidlack? >> Yes. >> Dr.
Beers? >> Yes. >> Ms. Krepel? >> Yes. >> Resolution This is a new resolution um and >> [clears throat and laughter] >> our attorneys Resolution 200 to approve the and authorize the repayment unspent grant funds and I'll explain what it is after a motion. >> So [clears throat] moved. >> Second. >> So we have a This year the auditor of state has is closing out um several old grants. So if we had money left over that is not needed um if we had money left over in the grant fund, we have to pay it back to the to the state. Or in the case of the federal funds, these were in a consortium with the Cuyahoga County ESC, which is now the Northeastern Ohio ESC. So these are back from 2005 or 2008 2007, so
these are old uh old net grants. Those are no longer um operational, so the auditors have asked us to clean that up and either return the money or you know, spend it but the grants have expired so we cannot spend it so we need to return it. And um so we're doing such. And then the title money um we have some additional funds and how do we do this really? Give it back to the uh ESC. >> Any further discussion? Call the roll, please. >> Ms. Naylor? >> Yes. >> Mr. Bidlack? >> Yes. >> Dr. Beers? >> Yes. >> Ms. Krepel? >> Yes. >> Ms. Leatherwood? >> Yes. >> Dr. Benitez? >> Resolution 201 is a resolution to accept certified staff resignation. >> [clears throat] >> So moved. >> Second. >> Any discussion? Call the
roll, please. >> Mr. Redmar? >> Yes. >> Dr. Beers? >> Yes. >> Mrs. Claypole? >> Yes. >> Ms. Leavenworth? >> Yes. >> Ms. Naylor? >> Yes. >> We just hired her a couple of years ago. >> Mhm. Yeah. Um I think I don't know that for sure. Resolution 202 is a resolution to accept certified staff retirement. >> So moved. >> Second. >> Any discussion? Call the roll, please. >> Dr. Beers? >> Yes. >> Mrs. Claypole? >> Yes. >> Ms. Leavenworth? >> Yes. >> Ms. Naylor? >> Yes. >> Mr. Redmar? >> Yes. >> Resolution 203 is a resolution to approve certified staff appointments for the 26-27 school year. And if you give me a motion, I'll introduce them to you. >> Second. >> And by I'll introduce them to you, I'll have Megan Bellin and Jennifer
Norman introduce them to you. >> Okay, the first person we're going to introduce to you is Kira Zimmerman. Kira, unfortunately Sam isn't here to brag about you. So, this is a recent graduate who would be filling our social studies business position that you just accepted the resignation for. She comes to us from Baldwin Wallace and where she got a perfect 4.0. I just wanted you to know. >> [laughter] >> This is a This is a big resume for a brand new grad where she was in the honor society. She has a variety of different accolades already. One of them that I thought was really interesting [clears throat] was that she got to study abroad in Japan and she told Nancy and I all the things that she learned while she was in Japan which we
knew none of what she was talking about. She had her student teaching experience in Olmsted Falls High School and she also was in Elyria High School, so she had kind of some vast experience that way. She also serves as a debate judge, and as you know, we have been in in dire need of a speech and debate coach, and and I will say, you know, as part of the interview process, that didn't come up, but she offered it. So, we will be looking at her to be also helping fulfill that talent and that niche. And then also, she's done a variety of other things, but she also is a CVS shift supervisor. So, just another another multi-talented attribute. >> What is CVS shift supervisor? >> Pardon? >> What is a CVS shift? >> CVS. >>
Oh, CVS. Thank you. Both Bill and I can't hear very well. >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> Exactly. >> [laughter] >> That's right. >> So, we are very excited about her. We She's a star, and we knew that right away, and we're very lucky to get her, and her mom has accompanied her. >> [laughter] >> Good. Thank you. >> Thank you. >> You're welcome. >> You as well. >> Welcome. >> Okay. Maria, can you pop your speaking cherry as well? Maria is also a rock star. She is a West Geauga grad. So, this is super exciting for that reason, but she is a West Geauga grad, where she was a cheerleader, and she did track and cross country, and happens to be the homecoming queen. So, she threw that in there. So, we >> [laughter] >>
Royalty among us, indeed. >> Maria graduated from Kent State and she has a dual major in special education where she is certified for mild to moderate and then moderate to severe. So she or intensive. She has that and then she has a minor in autism. So she comes to us loaded with great skills. She's worked as an intervention specialist at Stow Intermediate School for the last since 2023. So and we are pretty excited >> [clears throat] >> about it. And then not only is she passionate and eager and hardworking and clearly somebody who will do anything. She also was in charge of directing and producing her fifth and sixth grade musical at that building. So she is we're welcoming her to Lindsey where they might do a little musical. >> [laughter] >> So it's pretty
exciting to have her So she'll be a great addition. Thank you. >> Good. >> Welcome. >> [applause] >> I have to tell you driving home I was talking to Mr. Butten Cass on the telephone and he was asking about my day and I said one of the absolute most special parts of this job is to offer a young person a job that is anxious for the opportunity and thrilled by it and these two very enthusiastic educators when offered the job had the response that I have come to hope for not expect but it was it was so joyful in this office and it was really really special. So it made a lot of our days as well and I know they'll have a great impact on the kids that they'll serve. >> Great. >> [clears
throat] >> Could I have a motion? >> We got to get them >> We did that. All right. Call the roll. >> Mrs. Claypole? >> Yes. >> Ms. Leverworth? >> Yes. >> Ms. Naylor? >> Yes. >> Mr. Bidmar? >> Yes. >> Dr. Beers? >> Yes. >> Welcome. Congratulations. YES. >> [applause] >> AND WE WON'T JUDGE YOU IF YOU LEAVE. We will not judge you. I After I said all that, I'm like, "Oh, they're going to feel like they have to stay here." And you stay if you want. That's fine. But, you do not need to. >> [laughter] >> Resolution 204 is a resolution to correct certified staff appointments for the 2026-2027 school year. >> So moved. >> Second. >> And this is the contract was listed initially as a probationary contract, which is an OAPSE
contract, not a certified contract. So, that was just a mistake on the board agenda. So, we're correcting that here. >> Any other discussion? Call the roll, please. >> Ms. Leverworth? >> Yes. >> Ms. Naylor? >> Yes. >> Mr. Bidmar? >> Yes. >> Dr. Beers? >> Yes. >> Mrs. Claypole? >> Yes. >> Resolution 205 is a resolution to approve a student internship or student teaching placement for next school year. >> So moved. >> Second. >> Any discussion? Call the roll, please. Ms. Naylor? >> Yes. >> Mr. Bidmar? >> Yes. >> Dr. Beers? >> Yes. >> Mrs. Claypole? >> Yes. >> Ms. Leverworth? >> Yes. >> Resolution 206 is a resolution to approve a certified long-term substitute assignment. >> So moved. >> Second. >> Any discussion? Call the roll, please. Mr. Bidmar? >> Yes. >> Dr. Beers?
>> Yes. >> Mrs. Claypole? >> Yes. >> Ms. Leverworth? >> Yes. >> Ms. Naylor? >> Yes. >> Resolution 207 is a resolution to approve certified stipends for work outside of the contractual year. >> So moved. >> Second. >> Any discussion? Call the roll, please. Dr. Beers. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Claypole. >> Yes. >> Ms. Lebworth. >> Yes. >> Ms. Naylor. >> Yes. >> Mr. Bidmar. >> Yes. >> Resolution 208 is a resolution to accept classified staff resignations. >> [clears throat] >> So moved. >> Second. >> Any discussion? Mrs. Claypole. >> Yes. >> Ms. Lebworth. >> Yes. >> Ms. Naylor. >> Yes. >> Mr. Bidmar. >> Yes. >> Dr. Beers. >> Yes. >> Resolution 209 is a resolution to approve a change in classified staff contracts for the 25-26 school year. >> So moved. >> Second.
>> Any discussion? Call the roll, please. Ms. Lebworth. >> Yes. >> Ms. Naylor. >> Yes. >> Mr. Bidmar. >> Yes. >> Dr. Beers. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Claypole. >> Yes. >> Resolution 210 is a resolution to approve summer routes for extended uh school year services. >> So moved. >> Second. >> Is there any discussion? Call the roll, please. Ms. Naylor. >> Yes. >> Mr. Bidmar. >> Yes. >> Dr. Beers. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Claypole. >> Yes. >> Ms. Lebworth. >> Yes. >> Can I Can I pull this up for 1 second? >> Yes, you can. >> So, can we talk about we just real quick what like we we send bands all over the place, right? >> We do. >> And because we have students going to outside services, can we just get a little
a little on that? >> Sure. And based on student need and extended school year services, which are services that we provide um due to uh decisions that teams make um for individualized students, um they can be all the way on the west side even, um but it it really is based on student need, and so you could see West Geauga vans and or buses, typically vans, um, all over the place in Northeast Ohio based in the student need and and how we're serving them. >> have to take them to the service, right? >> Yeah, 100%. >> Cool. Thank you. >> You're welcome. Resolution 211 is a resolution to approve casual [clears throat] laborers for summer of '26. >> These aren't some of the people who are standing in the middle of the hallway right now.
>> [laughter] >> I was just going to say that. >> Um, definitely not these two people if you know them. >> [laughter] >> They are laborers. They are They're doing things, um, like, uh, helping get Chromebooks ready, um, for students when we purchase new Chromebooks. There's a variety of things that need to happen to get them ready to be in students' hands. They're doing some of those tasks for us over the summer. >> Could I have a motion? >> I move. >> No, I don't think we did. >> We're I was laughing at the same >> Did we have a motion? >> I moved. >> I don't remember that. 2 [clears throat] minutes >> trying to keep things moving along, Pam. >> Well, I'm going to slow them down now cuz I don't remember that.
[laughter] >> Slow. >> All right. Call the roll, please. Mr. Bidmar. >> Yes. >> Dr. Beers. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Claypole. >> Yes. >> Ms. Loveworth. >> Yes. >> Ms. Naylor. >> Yes. >> Resolution 212 is a resolution to approve 2026 summer programming statements. >> Second. >> Any discussion? Call the roll, please. Dr. Beers. >> Yes. >> Ms. Claypole. >> Yes. >> Ms. Loveworth. >> Yes. >> Ms. Naylor. >> Yes. >> Mr. Bidmar. >> Yes. >> Resolution 213 is a resolution to approve supplemental contracts for the '26-'27 school year. >> So move. >> Second. >> Any discussion? >> Yeah, just kind of uh, well, I think we've talked about this before that uh, in the compensation related to it. Getting a Just help me understand the span a little bit. >> Um yes, for the
mentor. So, when we have new um teachers, they're resident educators, and part of that resident resident educator training is to be paired with a mentor um that helps work with them um until they obtain their professional professional licensure. When it started, that took 4 years. Um the state has condensed that a little bit, so it can be done as quickly as two. Typically, it takes 3 year. Um but that involves um taping and submitting less student uh pardon me teachers in front of classrooms teaching um and getting graded on that. There There are multiple steps involved in that. And so, our mentors help them. If you have one mentor, it's a first mentee, and if you have a second mentor, rather than pay the exact same cuz you can bundle those tasks often times, um
the second mentee is not as much, but that's the the reason for the stipends. >> Cool. >> [clears throat] >> Thank you. >> And And the numbers that are in parentheses beside the position, does that refer to the number of people that are in like in the department or >> Yes. Is that that's already something that's at least sort of budgeted and just a a process of filling the positions and >> Yeah, good question. So when we negotiate our contracts, we typically we traditionally and typically have done so on three-year cycles. So the raises are set in stone for those three years, board approved both for our certificated, certified staff as well as our classified staff. And so we we have those that are in the

Um so >> just minor >> clarifications. >> Clarification, they were not a change of content. >> Not a change of content, and we are um one of the board policies, several of the board policies have business manager um listed in them, and Scott Amstutz plays that role, and rather than trying to fish them out and find them um because that role has changed four to five times, um it it's just the supervisor in charge of that particular area. So, food services was it. Um so, we felt like the business manager, that title could stay in that he
is the supervisor over food service. There isn't anyone else that would serve in that role um because that title continues to change. I I mean, I'm not sure that it will continue to change, but it has changed hands several times. The other issue that you asked about was an 8500. Um the way that um the address and the email address will show for our two um her anti-harassment officers, um once you get rid of all the extraneous language in between, it will have the two titles with a separated line, the address and email. So, I think it will be clear once we do it, but I'll take a look at it and make sure just so [clears throat] that it's clear for people in terms of board policy who they're contacting. >> I guess my
only real concern about the business manager is that is a >> [clears throat] >> Excuse me, a specific licensure to be a business manager. And if we don't have someone who's licensed to be the business manager, then >> But the but the licensure is so it's so the way that that policy is reading, it is who would turn in information regarding a child's dietary need in that particular one. So the supervisor and I think the super I I believe the licensure of that um role at this point, which is a supervisory one, wouldn't impact that. Do you see what I mean? Because it's not a business management. It's it's a supervisory that would have license over a child at that point. I can look at it, Bill, and I can ask Neola. >> Yeah. [clears
throat] >> Which policy is this? 8500? >> No, it was >> No, this one is for um 5517. >> 5517. >> Yeah. >> Do you >> Um I would ask >> This one was 5517 is anti-harassment. >> Oh, I'm sorry. It's 8500 in the food services. >> Yeah. I guess [clears throat] here here would be my suggestion, that we that we pass them now so that they're all updated, and then I ask question I ask that question of Neola and our board attorney just because I think it's an issue that exists in other board policies as well. >> No, I understand and I understand how in a lot of these we used to have a person's name for like the anti-harassment. There would be a specific person's name in there and then we've changed it
to a position title so that we don't have to go through this every single time that the person changes jobs, which I'm perfectly fine with. I'm just thinking that we don't have a business manager. Right. So, maybe there's another term that we should be putting in those to replace business manager. >> Well, likely it would be superintendent's designated to get away from that because that's what we've been doing and up to date up to this point. But I let me take a look at how many that will impact and and invoke and maybe we could do another couple of readings of small board policies and that would be the way to do [clears throat] it to modernize it. >> I would look forward to more board readings of policies, yes. >> Yeah, we like those.
>> not, but I will certainly make sure that it's accurate. So, let me check that. >> There there was one and I'm sorry that I'm sure of asking you earlier that had an abbreviation that was lower case letters or maybe it was just and I didn't ask whether it was a typo or not. It was like an old something and I and I've never seen an abbreviation with lower case letters before. I'm going to go back. I'm going to go back and look. >> Okay. Yeah, I'm not sure. >> I didn't know whether anybody else had >> I didn't notice that. >> Now, I'll have to go back and read them all. >> [laughter] >> Dr. Benincasa, could you also explain a little bit on artificial intelligence, what you have planned for that since it's
such a dynamic >> topic. >> It is a dynamic and ever-changing topic. So, Scott is working with alongside a consortium. So, a lot of which helps us in that schools are talking about this a lot and as you mentioned it's ever-evolving and changing. We used to historically long ago have a technology committee that was made up of lots of different people in school, teachers, administrators, etc. And they looked at usage and student usage, things of that nature as technology evolved and evolved in schools. My understanding is that they will be 2.0-ing that committee under the leadership of Megan Ballen and Scott Amstutz and that will that committee will consistently and constantly be looking at how we're using AI, what are our policies. You know, obviously AI has so many implications from teaching to students and
so many things in between. So, I think there's a lot of need for that. It's certainly not going away anytime soon. So, I think that is one of the things that Scott and Megan have talked about that I think is a good idea to reboot that so that we have a place to discuss it and what makes the most sense for West Geauga. >> Good. So, in June of each year
we get a list of the schools where we will be providing or might be asked to be providing transportation in lieu of that are outside of our radius to actually provide the transportation. That can be done in two ways. Sometimes if the the the private school doesn't get the information to us in terms of a roster, we can say this is who's applied in the past and so sometimes you see that list. Sometimes you see a list of a roster. That roster is usually deemed obviously private schools don't keep a roster of West Geauga students per se. They keep a roster they their rosters, pardon me, are based in zip code. And so you might see a roster of zip codes right as close to West Geauga, although that's not a perfect science either. What
you're approving now is these are the private schools, these are um the rosters that we have from zip code, and then in the fall in October, you will again um approve those who have reached out to to get and applied for these dollars from the state. So, what you're seeing now are rosters and not necessarily the kids and maybe not always necessarily the West Geauga kids, zip code based, and in the fall, you'll have an accurate number of who has applied and who will be getting those dollars from the state. >> Okay. So, the number that we see maybe higher than the actual. >> No, those will be the um actual payment for the prior year. We pay those in July. >> Oh. So, so this is payments for the past year. >> Mhm. 83
[clears throat] >> The list that were there are rosters, they are not the applications. >> 83 Oh, no, the Is it 83 the thousand? It's the estimate for next year. I'm sorry. >> That's okay. The the list attached to 217 are the list of rosters, they are not the list of the applicants. >> Yeah, and it's my understanding that none of the schools listed there's no changes. So um as we've moved towards that, I know that some members of the Impact Group have some things going on this summer. So as it gets closer, we'll share that with you. Um so I wanted to make sure that everybody knew that that was set. It shows up on the board agenda today that that will be that special meeting will be um held. Also um I It is incumbent upon me to tell you that we had a member of the West Geauga family
pass away over the weekend. We lost Cheryl Fowler. Um passed away this weekend. And um I just wanted to read what I sent to the transportation department today. Which was this. Um Cheryl Fowler served at West Geauga for 20 years as a bus driver and as a transportation supervisor. Known for her caring and gentle approach, Cheryl took care of students, families, and staff year after year. Always ready with words of encouragement and kindness, Cheryl led by example with a big heart. We are saddened to hear of this. Um we send our heartfelt condolences to her children and her grandchildren. Um we will reach out. Uh I know that they're planning services uh towards the end of this week and we certainly will be there for them. Um but I wanted you to know that. And
um she was a beloved member of this team and the staff and and we are so saddened to hear it. So, I just wanted you to know that and we will share information as we know about the services coming up. I wanted you to make make you all aware of that. Um and then finally um we understand that the Geauga County Commissioners will hear um a little bit will hear the idea of the rollback provision tomorrow at the Geauga County Commissioners meeting. And um as you may or may not have known, Karen and I represented West Geauga along with all of the other Geauga County Superintendents and Treasurers um to speak. Karen spoke on behalf of the Treasurers. Bruce Willingham spoke on behalf of the Superintendents about the grave impact that would have on particular
in particular [clears throat] school finances. But it would not only affect school, it would have impact and affect libraries, townships, etc. People that depend on some of those dollars. And so, tomorrow it is on the agenda. We intend to attend. We'll be there tomorrow. I believe um Mike Candlin will speak again on behalf of the schools, Chardon superintendent. And I just wanted to make you aware of that if you wanted to come and be heard. Certainly I think I we understand completely understand the idea of property taxes and their direct consequences to many people who are struggling with them as those home property values have have gravely increased. Um They have impacted some state legislature, which we've talked about here over time, that will help grant some reprieve for those increased property taxes. This would
be on top of some of those already established reprieve that is happening, but it is going to start gravely impacting schools and our ability to um serve our students. And we want to make sure that we're heard and that people have a keen understanding of the consequences of that because there will be some compounding financial impact. So, we will be there to speak. Mike will speak on our behalf, but I wanted you to know in case you wanted to attend as well. >> Yeah. Yeah. Thank you. >> shove everybody into that small little meeting room. >> Do you There is an overflow room? >> Yeah. >> Have you gotten any response cuz they also submitted letters? 078I would imagine that there would be representatives from other entities other than schools. I would assume that townships, I know the library was there, did not speak, but I I would have I would assume that there would be other people there speaking, but I just I have no way of knowing that. >> Okay. And we did receive the estimates of the House Bill 186 uh reductions on going forward for 2025. That'll be 2.6 million dollars. We had estimated 2.5, around 2.4, between 2.4 and 2.5. So, our estimates in the forecast are fairly accurate, but uh we do have confirmation of that. We got that email this afternoon. >> So, we're losing. So, >> That's two That's 2.5 over the five-year run. >> No, it's 2.5 million per year. >> In the In the first year?
>> It'll They'll have a The way it will work is we'll have this year they'll get the full impact on your June >> Mhm. >> um billings. I guess it'll go in July. We're waiting to see what the reimbursement we There is a reimbursement component to the school districts as well as part of that from the state. We don't know what that is. We understand that the state uh will be calculating that reimbursement and not the county. So, >> And And the reimbursement's only going to be one year. >> The reimbursement's only going to be one year. We had estimated 800,000 for the reimbursement. So, net, you know, um but we'll
wait and see. We're having There's a lot of confusion on the reimbursement right now, and particularly in response to our suspension of the 2.35 >> Yeah. >> um million dollar levy. So, we are >> What's the basis? Right. >> Yeah, we don't know what the basis is going to be. So, we'll we'll have to wait and see. We anticipate those payments were anticipated in August that they would try to make up that payment cuz we lose you know, we had the first impact in the um July and August advances and [clears throat] then we'll see those come along. Lake County announced that they would extend their uh payment of their property taxes by 2 weeks. I would anticipate Geauga County following something like that too as well. So, we have a low cash flow uh
issue as well. Just for clarity, >> Karen, because the school because West Geauga schools opted not to collect that levy. >> The 2.35. Mhm. >> To garner to to relieve our taxpayers' burden. That is the unknown at this point. >> On on the reimbursement side, yes. So, we just don't know whether they're going to include that as a tax that was collected even though it was suspended. So, if it's in that case, we will not receive any money from that. However, we've been in contact with the state, we've been in contact with state Department of Taxation as well as the Department of Education uh and expressed our concern um that we should receive some of that reimbursement cuz we're losing those taxes in 2020.
