do that. >> Perfect. >> We're getting a wave from the back. >> Okay, we're going to start the meeting. >> The uh this meeting is a meeting of the Westiaga Local School District Board of Education in public for the purpose of conducting the Westiaga Local School District's business and is not to be considered a public community meeting. There is no public participation at a school or a special board meeting. Call the role, please. We're going to uh I don't know. We're going to reorder things. So, can we

move into the uh personnel resolutions? >> Yes, certainly. >> Thank you. So, for our first personnel resolution is resolution >> Good evening. >> Hi, Mark. >> Resolution 176 is a resolution to approve administrative staff appointment for the 2627 school year. >> So, move. Could I have a second? >> Second. Sorry. >> All in any discussion? All in favor? >> We need to do a roll. >> I'm sorry. Call the role. >> There are so few of us here. >> Call the role, please. Mrs. Clayole. Yes. Miss Levvenworth. >> Yes. >> Miss Naylor. >> Yes. Resolution 177 is a resolution to approve certified staff appointments for the 2526 school year. >> Move. >> Second. So, this um is a contract that we will do for this school year. Although it has been served, uh it was

uh left out. So, uh you'll be doing hers for this year and next year, but she's been a member of our staff for a number of years. >> She's been working with >> she. No. >> Yes. I'm sure Tori would be fine with that. No problem. No. Any other discussion? Call the role, please. >> Mrs. Clay. >> Yes. >> Miss Levvenworth. >> Yes. >> Miss Naylor. >> Yes. >> Resolution 178 is a resolution to approve certified staff appointments for the 2627 school year. So move. >> Second. >> Any further discussion? >> Call the role, please. >> Mrs. Clayole, >> yes. >> Miss Levvenworth, >> yes. >> Miss Naylor, >> yes. >> Resolution 179 is a resolution to approve certified staff appointments for the 2627 school year. second. >> And if you give us an opportunity,

I think Amy Davis would like to introduce uh both of the hires, although one is unable to be with us in person um due to a family vacation that had already been planned. >> Okay. >> Um Katie um is uh an experienced professional. She has held um several different positions in her career. She has been an intervention specialist. She has been a school counselor. Um and most recently she was has been working at St. Helens um as um an individual. We call it MTSS, but truly what it is is making sure every student um reaches their potential. Um so she's also a district parent and serves on several of our parent committees. Um and her wisdom and professionalism are um just they are at the top of the game. So we are delighted and very

grateful um that she is joining our team. We have recruited her years. Um, and we are very pleased that she is finally going to join us. So, she happens to be on the top this week, otherwise she would be here. >> Great. Thank you. >> Susette. >> Hi. >> Uh, Susette Firehammer um is joining us this evening with some of her family members. Uh, Susette is the mother of five. Six. I apologize. I know. Five or six. Um Susette has six wonderful children um and lives in Giaga County. She has worked in um a couple of different top 10 districts and we are very grateful that she is joining our team. Um as we looked at Susette's backgrounds um we heard so many positive and glowing um things about her. Her dedication to the achievement

of every student was very clear, but equally as important, her strong relationships with students, staff, and families were a real standout. Um, and we were very grateful to get her. You are approving her this evening because other people were trying to get her and we had to get her first. So, um, we are just so pleased to have you. >> Welcome. Welcome. Call the role, please. >> Mrs. Yes. Miss Levvenworth. >> Yes. >> Miss Naylor. >> Yes. >> Well, >> It's done. Now you're stuck. There you go. Resolution 180 is a resolution to accept certified staff resignation. >> Could I have a second? >> Second. Sorry. >> Any discussion? Bye. I just like to say Lisa um has been such a absolute wonderful staff member serving um our families and our students and um this

one is you know it's so funny when people come to you and are finishing out a career that has been so outstanding and I I literally can't believe she's done and uh she assures me that she will come back to do anything we need of her whether it be tutoring or help or whatever because again she just is somebody that really serves our students with students at the heart and uh we will miss her um but we'll find ways I think to keep our hands on her. >> Any other discussion? Call the role please. Mrs. Clayole, >> yes. Miss Fworth, >> yes. >> Miss Naylor. >> Yes. Resolution 181 is a resolution to approve classified staff appointments for the 20 526 school year. >> So that's for last year. >> This is for our it's

it's this school year right now into the summer because this is our appointment that we did of our special intern position that you approved. >> So move. >> Second. >> Any other discussion? Call the role, please. Mrs. Clayool. >> Yes. >> Miss Levvenworth. >> Yes. >> Miss Naylor. >> Yes. Resolution 182 is a resolution to approve classified staff appointments for the 2627 school year. >> So move. >> Second. >> Any discussion? >> Call the role, please. >> Mrs. Clayool. >> Yes. >> Miss Levvenworth. >> Yes. >> Miss Naylor. >> Yes. >> Resolution 183 is a resolution to accept classified staff retirement. >> So move. >> Second. >> Any discussion? >> Dan is uh Yes. So Dan, even as he turned in his letter, was reticent thinking, "Oh my gosh." And he said to me, and

I quote, "What am I going to do at four o'clock in the morning every day?" So he's just such a treasured um love at Westwood. He takes such great care of our staff there and our families and the building. Um so we will miss him. We wish him all the best in retirement. He is a a a treasure. He's a a great great person. >> Any other discussion? Call the role, please. >> Mrs. Clayool. >> Yes. >> Miss Levmore. >> Yes. >> Miss Naylor. >> Yes. >> Resolution 184 is a resolution to approve supplemental contracts for the 2526 school year. >> This summer, >> this was the Camp Fitch. Um we didn't get it done before they left, but this this is the annual campfish. um oversight for the um chaperons. >> Thank you. >>

Second. >> Is there a reason we didn't get it done? I mean before >> I believe it was a turning in situation question. >> That's what I was thinking because there were some not >> we did for the eighth grade and we did some for the camp fetch and then there was a parcel we didn't. >> Okay. >> Yep. >> Any other discussion? Call the role please. >> Mrs. Clay. >> Yes. >> Miss Leworth. >> Yes. Miss Naylor. >> Yes. And along the same vein, a resolution to approve 185 service contract for the 2526 school year. So moved. >> Second. >> Any discussion? >> Call the role, please. Mrs. Clayool. >> Yes. >> Miss Levworth. >> Yes. >> Miss Naylor. >> Yes. >> Resolution 186 is a resolution to approve the first reading of revised

board policies 5223, 5517, and 8330. these three policies um had some truly modernization that does not change the content in any way um in 5223 or 5517. So, we just wanted to make sure that they're on the same timing. We want to get everything on the same timing. Resolution 8330 is a resolution to update what we declare to be public uh to be directory information that we are um legally required to release to to the public. And so we just want to make sure that it aligns with what we ask and what we put out to our parents when they enroll. So that is just modernizing that to make sure that the two align >> and equally so to make sure we don't share information. >> Correct. we shouldn't be >> that we share that

we have identified just what we are willing to share and that those those language pieces now match. >> Now when is the second reading going to be? >> The second reading will be at the June and then everything will be on the same alignment. >> So >> yes, as long as Neola doesn't then put another board policy up for modernization. We'll see. We'll see how that goes. But then everything will be done after that June 2nd reading on the 22nd. >> Okay. Any other discussion? Call the role, please. >> Mrs. Clayole, >> yes. >> Miss Levvenworth, >> yes. >> Miss Naylor, >> yes. Resolution 187 is a resolution to approve the revised 2627 Westa local school year calendar. So move >> second. So the school calendar has um contractual determined days. Um I am I

can't even believe that we miscounted them because there are so many people on as a part of a calendar committee that counts them from teachers from administrators and even your superintendent Nancy Vanasa and somehow we were recounting not counting a Monday on a on a month day. It it's the craziest thing. How nobody caught it. I don't know. But guess who caught it? It really irks me to tell you >> a math person caught it as they were loading the calendar into our system for payroll. So it was short a day a short a student day short a teacher day. So what this calendar will do is the Easter Monday that was initially not a work day or student day will become both and that's the change of the calendar. So the start does not

end change but rather the end does not change. What is changing is that Easter Monday. >> Any other discussion? Call the role, please. Mrs. Clay. >> Yes. >> Miss Levvenworth, >> we have a motion. >> I don't think she talked to >> Did we just Yes, >> Miss Naylor. >> Yes. >> Thank you. I will fire myself from all future calendar counting moving forward. >> We're just happy Tina caught it. >> Yes, we are. Resolution 188 is a resolution to approve the purchase of a passenger transportation van with wheelchair accessibility in the 2627 school year. >> So move. >> Second. >> And discussion, please. Um that is going to be the 2526 school year because we'll purchase it before July. >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> We're going to have to speed that up. >> They

won't hold it any longer. >> This because this is needed for the summer. >> Yes. Right. >> Yes. with immediiacy for a student need. >> Yeah. >> And it's something >> we have it on hold now. We just can't hold it any longer to July. So, >> and it's it it's something that came up after our last meeting. That's correct. >> Correct. >> Do we have to change this resolution or No, >> we will modify the resolution for 2526 if we can have a motion to modify >> to modify. Can I have a motion to modify the resolution for 256 >> to modify You have a motion? >> Yes. >> Do I have a second? >> Second. >> Any other discussion on that? All right. Call the role, please. >> Well, and then we need

a motion, right? >> As modified. >> Should I do that now or? Okay. Now, I need a motion to accept. >> Oh, wait. I'm sorry. >> Vote. Call the role, please. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Clayool? >> Yes. >> Miss Levvenworth? >> Yes. >> Miss Naylor? >> Yes. All right. >> Now, can we have a motion to um accept the modified resolution 188 for the passenger van? >> So, >> second. >> Any further discussion? >> Is that a >> Go ahead. >> Is that a intended one that we that we saw come in? I I'm I'm you know, just new so I'm late to some of the scheduled >> purchases or whatever. >> Sure. Sometimes um based in uh enrollment changes and fluctuations in student need um we have to make purchases and this would be

along those lines. >> Okay. Is it replacing one or it's just a a new an additional need? >> It is an additional. >> So currently we have a one van with one wheelchair. This is going to have one van with two wheelchairs can go in that one. >> Okay. Any further discussion? Call the role, please. Mrs. Clay, >> yes. Miss Levworth, >> yep. >> Miss Naylor, >> yes. >> Resolution 189 is a resolution to approve the renewal of district commercial insurance package for the 2627 school year. >> Move. >> Second. >> Any further discussion? Do you want to maybe explain? >> Yeah, this is our annual renewal of our property and liability insurance and it increased 1.4%. 4% and then we have our cyber security which increased $1,000. So very good rates. We increased our

deductible from 1,000 to 250 to $2,500. And then we added the new buses. So we've got a updated property valuation, but we've got a reduction because of the U deductible increase. >> So any further discussion? >> Call the RO, please. >> Mrs. Clayool. >> Yes. >> Miss Leverworth. >> Yes. Miss Taylor. >> Yes. >> Resolution 190 is a resolution to approve the Vasco Sports Contractors change order number one. >> So move second. >> Could we have uh discussion maybe explanation a little bit? >> Yeah. After milling in the D which is closest to the parking lot a big soft area that they have soil soil stabilization. Right now it's cut to about a 40 by 36 plot. Um could be reduced depending as they as they >> were the pictures we got. >> It's right

by that drain. Is it it it >> a a drainage issue or it just >> we don't know yet until we start digging that area. >> Okay. um to see exactly a where that that potential we don't really know what's causing that soft saturation um anything that's underneath the soil and then we'll start digging back for you know it could be a less but that's the scope >> but it so does that the amount that we're approving here does that include them finding the root cause or okay good >> I asked I I mean nothing is 100% but when we were out there and I walked and talked to them I said I don't really want to change order change order >> right >> you know so they said no this is this is the

the type of size that they would need to be able to to make the necessary adjustments >> and any possibility of finding others >> not not since they know >> okay good >> did did that match up with any of the issues that were on the the surface of the track or it's just like a binding after. >> It's finding after. >> Okay. >> Those are back after that's the only >> Are they still on schedule for >> our date completion? Good. >> Any other discussion? Call the role, please. Mrs. Clay, yes. >> Miss Levmore, >> yes. >> Miss Taylor Naylor, >> yes. >> So, I apologize for all the line items, but anytime you do any kind of a special board meeting in the summer, you can have a hundred things added to it.

Further proving we are here working diligently away all summer long to get you ready for next year. I texted >> I apologize. We were glad for sure to get the change orders in place because those are times sentence as if the van purchase was time-sensitive and then our hiring um we don't like to leave our candidates in the lurch in case others try to steal them away from us. So I appreciate your patience. We thank you. And we have, you know, we've always had um that June July 10th deadline kind of looming for us that the teachers can change their mind, but they can't change their mind after June July 10th. So, it's kind of a more fluid. >> I think what she's saying is we could have another one. >> Well, we'll see. >>

Before maybe not before any not before our June 22nd meeting. >> Not before the June 22nd meeting. Definitely not. Definitely not. Yes. >> We'll see. We have a we have a very few three I think outstanding um positions for next school year that we're working and by we I mean my team is working diligently to um interview and fill. So we'll see where that ends up in terms of the final candidate. If the July deadline looms then there may be a need for one. So we'll I I'll keep you informed. >> Thank you. >> Thanks. >> All right. So now we can move on to um brief discussion on the Newberry property and lease and the purpose the real reason we called the meeting in the first place. Um and the purpose of this discussion

is we're not making any decisions. There's not going to be any motions as such tonight. We have two just so everyone knows because I didn't say it earlier but two of our um board members are online or at least Mark is Bill is under the weather. So Mark Vidmar is on Zoom just he can't vote but he can you know listen and know what's going on and and get updated on this. So but the purpose of this discussion is a couple things. First to explain the current lease and why we're talking now. Why why are we discussing this now? and then hopefully to agree to the next steps which are simply >> Hi Mark, which are simply um following up with Newberry on the next steps. Okay, so it's as simple as that really. Um

and and in the meantime, what I'm what I'm probably going to ask is that people think about possible opportunities for the property. At the end of the day, we want to we want to work with Newberry. I mean, this is part of our district and um I think when we bring the two boards together, >> uh we can, you know, brainstorm and come up with something. We want to come up with thoughts and ideas that benefit the whole community. Um and so that's that's our overarching goal. Um so, so to give you so to give you an update, so the lease does not expire till next year at the end of the year, December. This is kind of for the new people on the board >> End of 2027. Thanks, Kathy. However, there is a

clause in there that if the uh lease is to be renewed, that decision has to be made by Newberry by the end of 2026, by the end of December. Thus, I know Greg reached out to me. Greg, is it the president of the trustees or chairman? chairman chairman of the trustees board for Newberry reached out early in the year um just to to say that you know we've got this out there and we need to make some decisions and then Carly I think is another trustee I think you remember attended our meeting to um discuss it and say that she want to move ahead with discussions so so that's that's really what's happened and and between then and now I met with Greg um not as a full board no decision decisions were made. We

just wanted to talk through where we're both at. Uh he met on his behalf. I did have Bill there because of his experience and kind of has some history with the lease and everything. So, so we're here tonight really to discuss what I'm going to ask our board and then we're going to reach out to the Newberry trustee board is to ask for some dates and some ideas on when we can meet uh together mutually to to start discussing how we want to move ahead uh with the lease as well as any future opportunities or resolutions that we might come up with as a as a group. So I guess that's all I'm really asking. I don't know. But I am opening it up for discussion of the board. We can't have discussion with Greg

but with the board. If you guys have any discussion or comments, I think uh can Mark Mark can participate in discussion. Mark, >> there's nothing to vote on. >> Yeah, because we're not going to really vote on anything. So Mark, if you can hear me, if you do have any >> I'm los sign language. >> We can't hear him either. I don't Well, we can hear Mark. >> Well, now he's Xed out. >> Well, we'll give it a few. Give Give Scott. Do you guys care? Here he is. >> Hey, there he is. >> I think I'm delayed. You're probably going to hear this well while well after you asked me. >> No, actually your lips your lips are matching your your words. >> Um and did you hear what I could you couldn't hear

us? I was just saying we're opening it up for discussion. Um my hope is when we leave this meeting is that we just have agreement on coming up with you know send out an inquiry on dates at work that we could get together with the Newberry board um and and discuss. Can you hear me? Gotcha. >> Okay. And and that I had met I just was informing that I had met with Greg and Bill was along with me just to kind of get their ideas and thoughts on how they wanted to move ahead with regard to the lease andor you know other opportunities with the property and what we what the next steps are. So if there's any questions I said a little more that's all we're really we're not going to do any decisions

tonight. It's just let's move ahead with discussions with Newberry. Anybody else have any comments? >> Ellen, do you have any questions? >> Well, I just didn't know. I mean, do we even have any >> Ellen? Can you speak up because >> Yeah. >> Do you have any Do we have any like just general things that are possibilities or you just don't want to get into any of that? >> Well, I mean, I think I would probably rather not just with this. I'd rather do that when we have the joint. But there are I mean we should be thinking about again we're trying to come up with solutions that will benefit the community and I consider Newberry part they're part of our district. They're part of the community. So what can we do um you know

with that property >> thinking together? >> Yeah. >> Go ahead Mark. >> Mark did you have something you wanted to say? He's looking with it. I don't think he can hear me. It's funny because it was working. >> I think I can hear you. >> Can you hear me now? Hear me now? >> Shoot. >> I think I'm way delayed here. >> Just to do a volume. >> I think we're way delayed on the Zoom. Yeah, you you're not to us, but we are to you probably. >> We're going to put you just on phone, telephone. >> No, >> Karen's going to try to get you by phone. >> Technology is great when it works, but when it doesn't, calling you. >> Calling you. >> Yeah. >> Hey, Scott. >> Can you mute? Can you

mute on there? >> Yeah, I got you now. >> Oh, good. Great. All right. So, do do I need to repeat anything or >> No, I've been actually watching on YouTube. Uh I wasn't able to hear through Zoom, but that's okay. Uh I I got your preamble, which is good. I think I'm I might be behind. >> No, so far we haven't had any further discussion. I've just opened it up. Uh, Ellen did ask if there was anything in general we could talk about tonight with regard to what to do with the property and I said probably it's best if we change that or wait till we have the whole board and we have the Newberry trustees together. >> Okay. So, I mean the discussion right now is just uh that you you had your

initial discussion with uh the Newberry trustees and forgive me are they in attendance tonight? Greg is here, the chairman, and and he's the only one that I talked with, uh, that I met with. Um, but as you remember, Carly did attend one of our meetings and ask for us to start talking about it. And Greg had called me before that to to open discussions. >> And our objective right now is to do what? is to >> is to to agree to um and I don't know if we need a motion, but it's agree to reach out to both both the uh trustees as well as our board for some dates at work so that we can schedule a special meeting here at our board office uh with the trustees and us just to start engaging

in that conversation regarding both the lease andor what we're going to do going forward. >> I don't think we need a motion for that. >> No, that's what Karen said. >> No, we don't. >> We just need to got a t or something going to figure out. >> Just have to have Dr. Benasa arrange for somebody to uh reach out >> if we're in agreement that that's the next step. I mean, that's what I think the next step has to be. >> Yeah. I I'm very inclined to find a resolution here uh to kind of pick or find a path forward with the the newer property. Uh I think it makes tons of sense that we work together uh with the the other board uh with the trustees to find that path. So I think

setting up that arrangement makes tons of sense to me. >> Okay. >> Do you have a sense of timing um just to give me some direction as I contact the Newberry trustees? >> I I would say let's let's pick a couple dates in July and August. It's difficult with summer. >> Summer makes a lot of August. >> Yes. We got Miss Traveler here. So, um >> I I guess I mean as far as what Mark said, I I would not want to tie our hands to say that we are looking forward. I mean, I I agree that we need to sit down and work and talk together. And I I would like to do that, but I I don't want to tie our hands saying that we will come up with a >> some kind

of a >> wellact I know I think I think what you you have two twofold pieces of the puzzle, right? And that's the lease which needs to be attended to. So that's in in near term. So I think you know we are there's a willingness to extend if that makes the most sense if if more conversation needs to happen until we can find a resolution that both the township and the board feels comfortable with moving forward and that might take time and I think you know this this first conversation is what are where are we and how are we going to go about the work and the work might take a while but I think everybody's you know very much committed to the work moving forward however long that that might take. Mhm. >> So

what opportunity will the public have >> in those meetings? >> Well, the the meetings will be public. >> Okay. >> So they certainly can come and make comments. >> Advertised as public meetings, too, because I mean obviously we're allowed That's right. It's a it'll be a special meeting. So unless >> if you want a public meeting, Yeah. then we have to tie it to one of our regular >> regular board meetings. Well, I was just I was just thinking because I think that's a little bit of the past history is is some of the public thought that you know some that the school and the the um trustees got together um you know got together and made something and it you know whether it is or isn't true it's part of the feeling that I

think >> that somehow in the process you know we have to like have that the public can be aware and have an opportunity >> to to go into that. I mean I I realize those are their elected officials for sure for for Newberry, but there's just a I think a sentiment. >> Sure. >> Uh you know, the way they it felt before was that, you know, the the two boards got together and just decided things. And so if we're going to if we're going to really look at this, then I think we need to have an invitation for the for the public to be able to um to bring their ideas. >> The any meetings we had when we got together with the trustees or the board which was then the Newbury board, they had

to call a meeting in the public. We had to call a meeting in the public and everything was held in in public. So you know >> Oh, I'm I'm not accusing anything. I'm just saying like I think that would that would you like we we were one of our goals too is is that New Berry feels very welcome in our school district. So I I just think that that would be a good faith thing and give people you know give people opportunity their school district. >> I I think you're I I think that's fine but let's have a first meeting because that would be important for Newberry. you know, they're representing their community and we're representing the district. So, let's they can >> you know what I mean? And then we can come together at

we're not going to come to any big conclusions, I don't think, after one meeting. We might discuss something about the lease just to get it off the, you know, out of the way. >> I think what I'm saying is that we need to follow the same procedure that we followed before. which we did, which is we come together, they they hold a say that they're holding a public meeting, we we open public meeting, too, and we're meeting together, right? >> Which is what we did in the past, >> a joint meeting, >> but so it's um it doesn't have to be called a special meetings because >> it will be a special meeting. >> So, which means no community input. That's the >> Okay. All the meetings will be in public. That's >> Yes, >>

that's for sure. Well, they and I think it's a good I mean if we form uh separate committees to do some research and so those should be open >> as well. >> Absolutely. Because I think every they all have to be open. Um but let's have our first meeting with with the trustees with our board and the trustees and then those those things will be addressed as well. You know >> that those would still be public. They could listen or watch or do whatever. They're all going to be public. >> Yeah, but but there could be a future way that we handled it so that there could be >> public input or >> we can talk about that. >> Yeah. >> I mean I my my thought process if I could interject is that like

I mean that's our job as board members, right? Is to we're representatives of our constituents. And I think that that's our responsibility to communicate that out, right? and and solicit input to deliver to the board in in that joint meeting. Right. So, I I think I think that's the prudent action is to hold those public meetings. >> I think it's most important that we that we show that we're all working together in good faith and I want to come up with a mutually acceptable solution to all this. Well, and I think we can say that we are going to have once we have a date set, we can we can say we are going to have this meeting and if anybody has not only can come, but if they can't come or they want to

communicate with any of us what their feelings and what their ideas are that we're their representatives, so >> agree. Any other comments? >> I think that sounds great. >> I think that's a good plan. So, you have somebody reach out to us and then um then I'll I can pass it on to Greg. >> Yes, absolutely. >> And we finally decided when >> what were we shooting for for the first meeting? >> Well, I think we should look at the next three months. Um and a couple dates in each month. >> July is difficult because one of the things um that I have to talk to you about are the um the next impact group. you wanted some dates for us and um man is it difficult. So, uh >> yeah, >> I I have
