006week we had our high school middle school choir uh concert under the direction of Lisa Pini. Uh so it's good to hear those uh students and the work since the Veterans Day program. Uh earlier in November, our eighth grade girls attended a new conference in Prom Point, which is non-traditional uh non non-traditional employment workshop. Our eighth grade girls were introduced to non-traditional career opportunities that they might not have considered or known about that were available to them. So, it was good experience for our female students uh who been told they're working on something for our male eighth grade students as well. So, we'll see if they have anything for that in the second semester. And then 16 of our middle school choir students went to the Chicago Wolf game earlier in October uh for the

007Northwest Indiana Choir Day. Uh they sang a song with other area schools from Indiana. Um and then they got to watch the Chicago Walls hockey game. Uh you may have noticed that uh the holiday decorations have certainly sprung up around here lately if you've walked around. Um, special thanks to the staff who helped make this time of year so festive and they are LED lights in the hallway this year, Dr. Brooks. Um, we had the third grade concert uh, November 20th and I have to say it was one of Mrs. Bean's best yet. Uh, the third graders did a fantastic job. Uh, breakfast with Santa was this past Saturday. Thank you to the Hein Fire Department for doing the cooking. Um, wonderful turnout and uh, as well thanks to Mrs. Gladstone and Hein Elementary PTO

008for all the hard work they did putting into it. Uh we have the Santa shop going on right now that Mrs. Trouy is running to allow our kiddos to purchase some gifts for their loved ones for Christmas. The second grade concert is next Tuesday. Um and the elementary sing along uh complete with hopefully special guests visiting us again and the Christmas parties will be on December 19th. Will any of those special guests make their way into the middle school lunch >> and put them on a naughty list? I'm sure they will. >> Great. Miss Kegy was unable to be here. Her son is having a basketball game tonight, so she provided some comments from the high school uh December 2nd. The middle school and high school choir performing their Christmas concert. She attended that along

009with the Christmas concert on December 3rd for high school band. Uh she wanted to recognize, you know, Mr. Lee and uh Mrs. Bean for those performances. Uh December 5th had the annual homecoming Olympics at the high school and the homecoming dance took place this past weekend on Saturday, December 6th. The fall play, 10 ways to survive the holidays, is this weekend. will be running Friday, December 12th at 7, Saturday, December 13th at 2 pm and at 7 pm. And then finals week is next week and that will be a wrap on the first semester of 2025. Three students will recognize in the month of November for Hawks Pride. So following Facebook page, I know that there's some recognitions happening there. Um, as far as comments from, uh, me, there are, you know, a few things

010that I wanted to kind of share. On November 25th, just before Thanksgiving, we had a career fair at the high school. There were over 40 vendors there, and it was in our high school gym. Uh, very well attended. all of the kids from the high school got to participate and um what a a wellrun and organized event for really the first time that we've done a large career fair. Um just want to thank the high school staff for putting that together. I know uh Britney Fonti, Michelle Hall, Sierra Gi were large parts of putting that together. I know hopefully I didn't forget anybody there, but there was a lot that went into that as well. So, um, and want to thank all the vendors that came for that career fair as well. Um, the kids

011came away with a bag and there were some goodies that they received as well. So, I think they had a great time at it. Um, I want to talk a little bit about the the winter weather and, you know, with the way that our technically winter hasn't even started yet, but we've, you know, got some winter weather and just some more ahead of us and kind of the process on how some of that works. You know, typically early in the morning, uh, this time of year, uh, I'm waking up pretty early to see if anything's going on outside. Uh, look at my phone, take a look at my email, uh, and area superintendent, all of Porter County, um, Jasper County, some Lake County superintendent, we're all kind of communicating back and forth early in the

012morning. uh sometimes as early as 4:15 a.m. Um you know, most recently when we had the uh two-hour delay, it was 4:00 in the morning when, you know, communication kind of starts. And there are times that, you know, I'll get up and drive down through the township, drive through and just see how some of the roads are. Basically, some of the main thoroughares. Um, I've I've leaned on people in the past. Jim Martin was somebody I leaned on to make calls. I've I've leaned on, you know, Mr. Beam one morning and uh, you know, some of our maintenance staff, Brian Anderson, Lynn Mills, they're out and about usually early and they can tell me how things are out there. But, you know, sometimes those calls are made due to timing or what challenges we have

013in the district. You know, the day that we had the two-hour delay, I drove through not only Valpo's district, but Boone Groves district, and those roads seemed to be okay, but once I hit Boone Township, they they didn't seem to be hit by a plow a whole lot or a lot of salt. So, um, sometimes that happens. uh being south, we may sometimes be one of the last uh townships to get hit with a plow, too. So, uh growing up here, I kind of understand that a little bit. I grew up out on 900 and it it you know, you kind of begin to understand how they operate a little bit. So, not that they're doing a bad job because it it's difficult. It's a big county and they have to um they have a

014lot a lot of area to cover. So, um, but just so you know, you know, there's a lot of thought that goes into it. We typically have to make the call by 5:30 a.m. if we're going to do anything because we've got buses that are out on the road early and we want to make sure that we communicate that early enough. And we also don't want to jump the gun and make a call a night before unless we're absolutely sure. You know, there have been some warnings we're like, lake effect snow can be iffy, right? We don't know. They were calling for all that lake effect snow. We ended up getting it. There have been many times where we haven't. Some of that um happens. It's a little bit easier for me to drive around,

015too, now that I have a a Jeep 4x4 that can get around a little bit better. But, um anyway, uh those are just, you know, some of the challenges that we have. Um, you know, our staff, they've been doing a great job of moving snow and getting salt out. Tomorrow is going to be a day that we'll wake up early and hey, do we have to salt the lots? Do we have to salt things? Because it's going to be wet, but if it cools down, it might ice up. And so, we have to to think about that as well. So, these this time of year is not fun. So, much better in the summer. Uh, and you don't have to make a call out. And then uh last um I'd like to talk about January

01616, 2026. We are having the first ever uh athletic hall of fame induction ceremony at the Hein versus Westville boys and girls double header basketball game. 11 uh former Hebrin athletes and and alumni alumni are part of that that group. And we're going to be recognizing 11 members on the first ever Heburn Athletic Hall of Fame that will continue uh down the road. And so um very exciting to bring some people back. We got some people coming from the 60s and 70s that um if you walk into the high school, you'll see their pictures and names plastered all over the place and they're just recognizable Hebrew names and it's uh kind of cool to to see um that recognition and the people that I've talked to that are a part of this are very excited

017to be able to come back. Some haven't been back in a long time and so they're excited to come back. So, that's January 16, 2026. And then I just want to wish everybody a merry Christmas and happy new year. We are uh right at the end here. So, get people off to a break. We need our teachers to have a break. Right, Mrs. Whips? >> All right. Public comments. Mrs. W. >> Just real quick, and I know Mr. Pipel had mentioned that um the Santa breakfast on Saturday. Um big thanks to um the Hein Fire Department. So Chief, thank you very much for all of their involvement. Loved the fire truck coming around with our grand marshall and family. So that was very meaningful. Um as a teacher, I appreciate the opportunity and all that

018Mr. Ple and Mrs. Trouy did with that and our PTO, the Gladstones, our specials teachers as well. Um thank you to our middle school and Mr. Patrick and group for our decorations when we walk in from the angel tree and all that stuff. It's just really appreciated when you you filter it down our way. We we look forward to it every year. Thank you. So that's it. >> Thank you. >> Great. Any board comments? >> Just merry Christmas, happy New Year's and enjoy the uh time off. >> Exactly. going to be especially for the high school and Allison's not here but but you guys got midterms coming up. >> No, no, >> no. >> End of the semester summer 19. Congratulations. >> Yeah, welcome. >> I appreciate it. >> So, enjoy your break. Come back

019fighting on the 5th. Yeah. All right. Go. >> What's that? >> Go. >> The meeting.
