001[Music] so [Music] testing one two testing [Music] so [Music] so [Music] so [Music] so [Music] so [Music] so [Music] so [Music] um my nieces will probably yeah okay here we go yeah we're good welcome everybody and thanks for coming to tonight's board of education meeting for june 16 2022 please call the roll i'm sorry usually not my role mr ron's taking over that's right tonight uh dr fisher here mrs hunt here mr gano here mr stein here and mr taylor here and you have a quorum please stand for the pledge i pledge for allegiance it stands one nation under god indivisible with liberty and justice i need a motion in a second to approve the agendas presented second any discussion please call the vote mr taylor yes dr fisher yes mrs hunt yes mrs regano
002yes mr stein yes motion passes and we're into presentations yes so we have a number of presentations usually in the month of june and july we don't have a lot of presentations but tonight you can see we have quite a few our first one very exciting we love when we're able to bring kids in and recognize their achievements and tonight we have three of those here before us so we get to do that so with that being said first of all i'd like to bring up coach ellen spence and she is the coach of our academic team which has won our state championship so ellen you are welcome to go right over there yep hello and good evening my name is ellen spence and i am extremely proud to present to you the bhs academic
003team i'd like to start by thanking the beaver creek board of education for honoring these very talented students today after winning the regional competition the team went on to win an exhilarating match against solon high school this year to clench the state title for the sixth year in a row so yay technically covid won one of those years so it's kind of like seven years in a row six like six titles okay okay um i've been coaching the team for seven years and in that time we have built a legacy across the state and the nation most recently returning this past weekend from chicago with an 11th place national finish so that's another very impressive accomplishment uh students compete in teams of four i have three of those students here tonight um all of my
004talented seniors and one sophomore who i am very glad to keep for another year or two years uh i can do math it's okay without further delay to the board of education and to all those in the beaver creek community presented a pleasant present today it is my pleasure to introduce to you uh these students kind of one at a time so i'll call them up so senior and uh team captain and all-around subject player is arun san cars [Applause] i've coached arun since 8th grade and i have watched him grow grow from a history and geography specialist to the formidable all-around player that he is today he is a great captain and he will be sorely missed next year as he joins my previous two captains at georgia tech i'm just feeding them to
005georgia tech next another senior and crazy gifted math and science player is alan z i would love to have his brain for just one math question to see what it's actually like because it is unbelievable listening to him answer any question in that category the third player is my literature specialist who i was just recently told by another coach is very possibly one of the strongest subject players in the entire country and that is georgio ganquili [Applause] so these are the three of the four members of our varsity academic team the fourth who is not able to attend this evening is my fine arts religion and myth player um and next year's captain anna kwong and she is a sophomore so congratulations on another state title all right guys hold on we got something for
006you i want to recognize you coach spencer thank you alan for hannah we see anna well certainly by next year yeah the next week so a small gift from the board of education to say congratulations for representing our district uh as well as you have over the years and you guys will be sorely missed as coach spence said so if we can get the board to come up we'd like to get a picture with you and the board coach you can hop in there too you guys are welcome to look at what's in there or something [Music] all right we need a big round of applause thanks for coming appreciate it thank you you're congratulations smart oh my god [Music] all right our next presentation is also a state champion this is with our track
007and field and when we saw the news that she won the one thing that i kept seeing was she's only a freshman so with that i want to turn yeah i want to turn it over to coach howard russ you get to come up here and sweat with me so you can see um my name is howard russ i am the i've been the head cross country coach at beaver creek high school since 2008 and i have been the head track coach for about six months um but have been involved with the track program since 2014 and for me though as a coach i've been doing this since 1997. oh my goodness it's like you're 25 for me and i've had the opportunity to call coach many state champions all-state all-americans taylor ewert was national
008champion record holder and had the opportunity to have many athletes and see many athletes go through the beaver creek school district in other school districts but to have a young lady as a freshman do what kaylee did this year is unprecedented for me she was the only athlete at the ohio track and field in all three divisions to be a state champion as a freshman this year she broke all the school records and we've had many many many many fast people just looking at her times for any of you that know track times the 100 meter is now our new pr is 12.26 oh my goodness um we most of our boys can't run that fast and that's not saying we have fast boys too our 200 is 25.13 and then with kaylee what i
009realized especially being a freshman i did not want to overwhelm her with numerous races at that level so we picked a race that i thought she had the best chance to do well at the state meet and that was her 400 meter dash and for those of you that don't know track that's one lap around the track so picture you go to a football game you go to a soccer game picture how big the track is kaylee now has a school record of 55.12 that is under 60 seconds at the state meet she went 55.27 um and if you watch the race the first 200 she was so smart and paced herself where she was probably in third or fourth place but her last 200 she just blew by everybody and if you watch she
010kind of lost a little control at the end because she gave everything that she had and it was just a cool moment our fans everyone was going crazy up there and i just remember turning around and i'm like she's a freshman and they're like what um and i already talked to college coaches and they're like we can't talk to her until junior year i said i know um but the the best thing i can tell you about kaylee is it would be really easy for her to come in with this attitude like i am the miss diva of the track um she's humble and i can thank her parents for that we've had many conversations on her character is it just as well as her running ability and so when you get a young lady
011like this you can build a team around a young lady like this so this year she knew her she didn't have to be a leader she had great leaders but she just had to let her action show but as i have my kids camp next week and i want kayla to come speak she is going to be not only a great runner but a great leader in not only in what she does on the track but also how she will lead the team with her leadership ability and character in the classroom and also a very good basketball player as well which is exciting as well so let me present to you state champion miss kayla keys [Applause] all right kaley we've got you a gift which maybe we should start buying more of these for
012the next two years you can open that up we hope that'll hit you but if we can have the board come down for next year all right congratulations [Applause] all right and our next student recognition is a very exciting one and i'm going to ask mr wren to come to the podium good evening i'm here tonight every school year we have students who are working on their credits as the graduation deadline approaches and at the high school we have a summer school program that gives them an opportunity to continue working so they can get on their way to the the next step and the next thing in their process so tonight i'm going to introduce a student who's been working diligently this summer to meet those requirements and he has worked hard and accomplished that
013goal um at this time i would like to recognize me shaw amadoji come on up michelle come up front as you can see this is important he's taking this series um i did not suggest a cap and gown but this is how he feels about tonight so yeah um michelle at this time i'd like to recognize you that you have successfully completed all the graduation requirements set forth by the state of ohio and beaver creek city school district members of the board of education mr auten i recommend you accept michelle as a graduate of beaver creek high school michelle with your engaging personality i'm sure you're off to great things so this is the first big step in that direction misha going to have the board come down and then we're going to have your
014family come up we want to get one get the board picture and then we'll have your family thank you okay there you go [Applause] don't miss that plane i won't go in the morning where's he going at four in the morning florida jealous all right our next item for pres our presentation is retirement recognition and i'm gonna turn over to mr schwederman i will tell you these individuals are already enjoying retirement so i'll turn it over to dale so thank you mr otton board glad to be here this evening as we do every month when we have a staff member who's announced their retirement we recognize them in the month in which their retirement has become effective unfortunately the three individuals who announced their retirement for the month of june are already on retirement uh
015and because their work actually ended in may but and they were unable to be here this evening but i didn't want to go without recognizing these important individuals first we have tracy craig tracy as administrative assistant at valley elementary school and she has 20 years of service with beavercreek city schools lisa mantel is one of our student nutrition employees and she has 30 years of service with beavercreek city schools and billy morgan billy is a custodian has been a custodian with beavercreek city schools for the last 19 years and all three of them have announced their retirement with the state the school employees retirement system of ohio and we want to make sure that we recognize them and their service to our district we will be sending them the same plaque card activity pass and
016resolution that we do for all retirees they will receive those via mail and we just want to make sure we recognize them in their service thank you thank you darren thank you in our last presentation i'm going to ask dr fiore to come to the podium this is in regards to our course of study textbook adoption okay so each year we submit a list of material or textbooks for the board to adopt so i wanted to take a few minutes and tell you about the process that we go through in order to adopt text or to recommend these textbooks for adoption each year we have um a content area that is the focus for the year and this this previous year it was math next year it'll be ela and we kind of work through
017that process with the team of teachers so there we go so first i just wanted to talk a little bit about our makeup of our team we have not been able to have the same size team that we normally have due to the pandemic and sub shortages but so this year we had sort of a modified team and that we had k2 meet separately then 35 and then 6-8 meets together and 9 12. it is a really enjoyable day for me because i get to spend the whole day with teachers and i really get to know so many more people in the district on a different level spending multiple days with them going through this process so we have one teacher from each building for k2 so it might be it's 2k 2 1 and
0182 2. then we have an intervention specialist and we have instructional coaches and then 3 5 is the same way we have two third two fourth to fifth um in a perfect world we'd have one third grade teacher from every building one third you know one fourth grade teacher but we weren't able to have that many subs this year so we weren't able to do that six through eight there was less teachers so we were able to pull out all the math teachers most of the time and then 9 12 all math teachers would come we would do half day sessions so we would do like algebra geometry in the morning and then the afternoon would be algebra 2 and calculus you know so we divide it by course so that seemed to work out
019we did have some meetings that we had to cancel and reschedule what we would do is we would just watch our aesop which is our you know management system and we would just cancel them the night before if we had a sub shortage um so that made us all be very flexible because we'd all be ready to meet they'd have their sub plans ready which i hated and then we they get an email that would say sorry we can't meet tomorrow so that happened to the middle school i mean in heist i think that happened to high school and elementary and i think it happened all of them at least once but we were able to get it done and that's the good thing so the process that we went through is our first meeting
020we start with data analysis and what we did was we com we co we combined all the statewide data which wasn't as fruitful in the pandemic because some of our kids didn't come in and take the test so we had some virtual kids that didn't take it and then if you know the year before we didn't have state testing so we don't have the trend data that we would normally have to go through but we did have last year's data of the students who took the test and then we also give the nwea map assessment three times a year so we have that math data and we just we went through a process where we kind of whittled down to what did we do really well at and what did we what are our areas
021of need so that was i think a good process for teachers to see as well some of the things that came out of that was modeling and reasoning was a weakness geometry for three through five was a weakness so it just helps us kind of look at okay as we move forward towards selecting materials or working on our curriculum map what are the areas that our students need the most support with and we had discussions like you know geometry is not something that's often carried through other math skills so when are we teaching it how long do we teach it do we need to change the order do we need to change the pace you know and what we do so that's kind of why we we dug into the data and then we also
022gathered information from our 20 comparable schools as many as we could get we got more information for secondary but to see what like for secondary like for the high school does are there math courses that we don't have that other schools have you know so we wanted to know make sure that we are teaching the right things to our kids and we offer the right courses that are comparable to our similar districts and then for elementary we looked at what programs are they using so that we could consider those they're high achieving schools if they're in our comparable schools and what are they using we also contacted some universities to say what math skills do you want kids coming in with you know like what would you like to see them have on their transcript
023which can provide as much information as as i would have liked but it was good to know that you know if they get algebra 2 that was you know what they require for od from od for graduation so we didn't call specific departments or i think that would have been different our next thing we looked at was the standards from the ohio department of education and then there's they have aligned critical areas of focus just things that are important um to make sure that what they consider the critical areas of focus so we looked at that and then they have current curriculum maps and we looked at what do we currently have do we need to change things up do we need to teach things differently so those that happened over three or four days
024and then we got to okay here is all these materials different publishers and the team was given time to look at that but like i said that's only six teachers for k2 and six teachers for three five so how do you ensure that all teachers have a voice in that so what we did was we looked at um we took all the materials that we had and we rotated them through the building for six weeks so every building got a week of the materials in their building so they could look at them we gave them like a guide sheet to take notes on of the different ones and they rotated it through now i mean teachers are busy so some got to look at them probably more than others this has been a busy year
025but they had the opportunity and it might have been in there two weeks i know it was at least a week and so then after that we sent a survey out and we narrowed it down to the top three and then after we narrowed it down to the top three programs like math publishers and resources then we got the companies to come in and do a presentation and we had those on the pd day in february so that they could watch those and learn more about it and we had a list of questions that we asked each publisher to uh answer and then if they did weren't able to come then we recorded those and then they were sent out via email and then they were given another survey and this was for k5 more
026than 612 because 612 was pretty much knew what they wanted for the most part so and then they received another survey so that they could all vote for this was k5 so that is how we were able to get all of their voice so i just wanted to share with you how they came up with that k2 determined that it was the data said that 61.8 percent of teachers selected bridges in mathematics a close school to us that's doing that at centerville so we've been communicating with some of their staff to get some guidance there's trainings throughout the summer and at the beginning of the year it's a different approach to teaching math it's more inquiry-based more exploratory here's which is really good i think for our kids it's a change in practice so we're
027hoping to do everything we can to support teachers grades four and five your notice i'm skipping third i'll get to that they determine that 42.4 percent wanted the hmh the hotend mifflin into math third grade was kind of like split like what do we do with third grade so there was some talk of does third grade partner with k2 or does third grade go with four or five so i said well let's ask the teachers so we sent them a separate survey that said here's what k2 wants here's what three five wants or four or five once vote on it so they chose um 72 percent of them chose into math so we've tried to include as many teachers and all these decisions as possible even though we can't meet with them because they are
028the ones that are teaching it every day so that that's what decided k-5 and then secondary the teachers met collaboratively and made decisions like they just there wasn't a big debate there wasn't the need to sit and like have different companies come in so sixth seventh and eighth were big ideas at cengage and they already currently use big ideas they just there's a newer version so they went with the updated revised version you'll see um on your sheet that's in the board book as well some of them are orange i don't know if they're highlighted in the book it's kind of a yellow orange but um those they didn't want new text books so they didn't want new ones they wanted to keep so what that means is we still have to pay for the
029online access but they're not getting a new text or a new any new resources with that but we have to continue paying for the online access to the textbooks so you can see a lot of cengage out of savas which is not how you say it but i'm not 100 sure on that i did learn the other day that i have been saying it right for three years and then mcgraw-hill so that is that is our math the teachers selected their textbooks and they are in your board book for adoption i also put in their social studies because i think if i was you and i might be making an assumption i kind of want to running tally of the books i wouldn't want to just get so if you look in your board book
030i put last year's social studies because i we did that one loosely in a pandemic virtually and then math and then next year i'll add ela to the same document so by the end you'll have them all on one document so you don't have to go through numerous board books to find the textbooks okay any questions for me okay this is for next year's texas book adoption math yes social studies is already in place but this is the one it's for five years so really you're making decisions for five years when you select these things because the money the funds that are allocated for program adoption are for five years and then next year we do ela then it's science then we go to electives then back to social studies great okay thank you thank
031you bobby and that concludes presentations okay questions or comments from the public we have two people that would like to speak tonight so before i call them up let me just say that you each have three minutes in which to speak um we need you to state your name and address please there will be no comments from the board tonight but should your comments well there won't be any response from the board to your comments but should your comments require a response somebody will get back to you so with that i'm jared cutler you're up first whatever what's ever good for you my name is jared cutler uh 3188 ibis court beaver creek 45431 i'd first like to say that i am impressed by all the accomplished young people who were honored here tonight i'm
032not just impressed i'm envious envious of the fact that they're accomplished and envious of the fact they're young i was young once too i'm deeply troubled by a number of educational bills currently under consideration by the ohio house of representatives specifically the don't say race don't say gay bill house bill in addition to house bill 322 and house bill 327. collectively these bills send a troubling message targeting many of our friends and neighbors these educational gag orders are a shameless attempt to silence the views of black authors and activists in ohio education some of them specifically target the 1619 project which is predominantly the work of black scholars no matter what kind of spin the sponsors of these bills want to try and put on it it is undeniable that the impetus of anti-crt legislation
033is keep the ideas of nicole hannah jones dr ibram x kendi and other black thought leaders out of schools thereby silencing the perspectives and experiences of people of color from education in the state of ohio suppressing the viewpoints of black scholars is wrong the naacp has spoken out against bills like this that ought to be enough to give everyone a reason to fight against them a recent report said it well quote it must be recognized that the movement behind these bills has brought a single-minded focus to bear on suppressing content and narratives by and about people of color specifically end quote what's more these bills also target our lgbtq plus friends neighbors and family members how does it make them feel to know that they could be erased from ohio schools think about how you
034would feel if your child was made to feel that your family wasn't valid isn't legitimate is less than and that your family can't be talked about in school that is exactly what house bill 616 does to children with two mothers or two fathers no child should ever be made to feel that way about their family no child should ever be made feel like they can't talk about their parents no child should ever feel like their family has been erased as i watch school districts in other states ban books about ruby bridges and martin luther king jr i think to myself that i want to do everything in my power to keep those kinds of things from ever happening in our school district i want to encourage all of you to stand with your lgbtq plus
035friends and neighbors stand with naacp and the black community let your state representatives know that the kind of bigotry and hate they are selling with these bills is unacceptable and may we always strive to make beaver creek a place where all families all families feel valued included and welcome thank you for your time thank you and our next speaker is is it my it's a conor if i'm mispronouncing your name i apologize hello my name is abby cohen i graduated from beaver creek high school in 2021 and i come before you to talk about something that i am troubled was not on the agenda today i stand before you today having spoken to many teachers from your district many students from your district and many teachers and students from across the state of ohio after
036gathering their thoughts on house bill 99 which was recently signed into law by mike dewine i ask that you opt out of the provisions outlined in house bill 99 in regards to arming teachers within beavercreek city schools i was born and raised here i've gone through three schools here and i've been threatened here i have felt unsafe in beavercreek city schools due to the threat of gun violence and never once have i thought that the solution was putting more guns in schools guns do not belong in schools because wherever guns are there is a threat of gun violence teachers are aware of it students are aware of it and your students parents are aware of it the only people who don't seem to be aware of it are our lawmakers mrs regano mr taylor mrs
037hunt mr stein dr fisher i need you to be aware of it your constituents and their children need you to be aware of it teachers within your district do not want to be armed they say there are too many opportunities for deadly mistakes to be made that is a quote they are worried that the ridiculously low number of training hours house bill 99 requires could lead to someone with delusions of heroism accidentally shooting an innocent bystander these are strong words but they're not wrong empirically they are not wrong there are no studies showing even suggesting that putting more guns in schools leads to decreased amounts of school shootings on the other hand studies do show that when given access to a firearm at any age for any reason the risk of suicide voluntary or involuntary
038in children triples and the risk of homicide doubles this should be common sense when more guns enter schools enter any equation there's a far higher risk of as one of the teachers i spoke with phrased it deadly mistakes another teacher i spoke with agreed that 24 hours of training was not sufficient to handle a firearm the language contained within house bill 99 currently says that a teacher is required to undergo 20 hours of normal handgun training and in order to get re-licensed they have to trade train excuse me for another eight hours yearly eight hours is the length of a typical school day in your district it takes teachers 180 hours to renew their teaching license in the state of ohio but to carry a gun around your children around my mother's children eight rounding
039out that one time 24 hours though was four hours of what they call scenario training something that students call alice drills four hours to understand and to perfect what people who were paid forty thousand dollars a year are expected to do when an active shooter enters the building and is trying to kill them and the children that they are in charge of protecting that is not going to work the teachers that this bill is trying to arm know that they are also worried about the security of those guns they are worried about what would happen if a student got a hold of one what are they supposed to do when a student goes for one are they supposed to shoot them what happens if a student gets their gun because another teacher with a gun
040will not be able to enter that room before the student is able to kill someone they won't what happens when a teacher who does not have the funding for adequate mental health resources is intimidated by a student i have a number of teachers i could list off that i would not be comfortable having a gun with under any circumstances let alone with 24 hours of training guns do not belong in schools ask your teachers your students your students parents and they were overwhelmingly agree this is not the way forward this is not how you protect children within your district and that is why i am asking you to not allow teachers to go armed in your schools thank you for your time thank you [Music] hey i now need a motion in a second to
041approve the minutes for the may 19 2022 regular board meeting so moved second any discussion please call the vote mrs hunt yes mr stein yes mr taylor yes dr fisher yes mrs regano yes motion passes and we're into items for more discussion uh yo we have a number of items for board discussion this evening the first one is an update on our student nutrition department i'm gonna turn it over to mr greg thompson and mr josh ashley thank you mr otton board of education tonight we want to give you a brief update for the student nutrition department we'll talk about how the past couple of years have impacted the student nutrition department what we're currently doing this summer and planning for next year and i'll let josh highlight how he has turned some of the
042challenges from the past two years and opportunities we'll talk about kitchen upgrades including equipment staffing and menu adjustments we've made business highlights as you're well aware our shared service agreement we have with the state and schools how that's going our participation numbers our actual numbers over the past couple years and how we are projecting that's going to affect us moving forward and then some of the supply chain impact impacts including inflation and how that is impacting us how it did last year and how it's going we anticipate it's going to moving forward and with that kind of a spoiler alert we'll have a recommendation for meal price increases for next year which we will bring back to you next month for an actual vote so with that i'll go ahead and turn it over to
043mr ashley to go into details good evening good to see you all again thanks for the opportunity to uh let me go over a few things in the student nutrition world i hope not to take up too much of your time i just really enjoy talking about all the different intricacies and ongoings in my department tonight as greg mentioned i'll brief you on a few kitchen updates those that we've completed a few that are currently happening and a few that are either currently out for quotes or we're waiting for the new fiscal year to transition to start bringing that equipment in uh next i'll run you through the roller coaster of a ride that we've been on this last 27 months in the student nutrition department after that as greg mentioned i will propose to
044you the meal price recommendation for the 22-23 school year and then finally i'll highlight a few notes and specialty items unique to the beaver creek city school student nutrition department last year i presented to you the kitchen or sorry gotcha forgot about that last year i presented a kitchen renovation project all right there we go sorry so last year i presented a kitchen renovation project at east state and christian schools who we have partnered with for the past three years in providing food services to their students we completed that project in its entirety in the summer of 2021 and it was ready for our students to start the school year the updates were well received and helped our operation run much more efficiently and gave us the opportunity to provide a higher quality product also
045trayvine's serving line was completely replaced and remodeled to tackle the extremely high number of students eating school lunch previously they only had a single sided a single sided serving line that really limited the amount of students we can get through in a timely manner so we redesigned and purchased a new serving line that now provides us with the capability of having a dual service and then with the help of miss walk ins and the scheduling of when classes would come down to lunch and the new dual service line we were able to accomplish the goal of getting the kids through in a timely manner currently we have signed contracts uh to have the dish machine and getting a new combi oven installed at the high school the dish machine just got installed today and then
046the combi oven we are looking it's a longer lead time so we're not expecting that to fall we've got some exciting new projects an opportunity so currently we're renting the milk coolers from the milk company which they up charge us on each milk carton a small little penny but over time it adds up so in the long term if we owned our own equipment we would have much more control better equipment and it's more financially sound to do so so we're currently that is out for quote to for four different companies to get bits on we're upgrading our hot merchandisers at ankeny those are just slides that the hot food stays on to keep it hot and fresh so they have long past their usefulness also at the high school we are doing a complete
047remodel of our pre-order system in both the kitchen and in the serving area to better accommodate the needs during meal preparation and meal pickup later in the presentation i'll go more in depth what the the pre-order system is all these items will increase efficiency be more cost effective and in overall improve the quality of meals so after this past school year wrapped up i had some time to reflect and i found it quite remarkable what all has transpired in the student nutrition department these last 27 months so in march of 2020 pre-pandemic our daily daily meal participation was 3 300 meals and then the nation shut down in only two weeks we quickly pivoted and turned beaver creek high school into central food hub families were able to pick up weekly meal kits or in
048partnership with feed the creek they offered to deliver those meal kits to their home we continue this every wednesday through the remainder of the school year helping more than 300 families each week then in the summer of 2020 no one really knew what the following school year was going to look like so we had three different plans that we created so we could pivot to make sure that we were going to provide them the highest quality most nutritious and most accessible meals to our students then that following school year in early of 2020 2021 the free meals for all arrived which completely changed the dynamic of our operation we battled the ebbs and flows of in-person remote blended learning combined with shortages of staff food and supplies and often we just learned on the fly
049had a how to adjust so it gave us a brief preview of what it was going to be like the following school year then in the summer beaver creek city schools had the opportunity for the first time to offer a free summer and breakfast lunch program and sir we served nearly 24 000 meals last summer this past school year we continued to battle with staffing shortages food and supply shortages but at least we were in person the entire school year we shattered our previous annual school lunch record of 470 000 meals with serving 820 000 lunches i mentioned at the beginning that pre-pandemic we served an average of 3 300 meals a day this school year we averaged 50 100 meals a day so as we prepare for the upcoming school year we're not quite
050sure what we will be looking at as usda has communicated with districts nationwide to prepare to return to normal no longer meals will be free for all what the new normal looks like is unclear but you know are we going to go back to pre-pandemic numbers they're going to maintain our current levels i think it's kind of somewhere in between you know we over these last two years we've had hundreds of students that just simply never ate school lunch before that have and i think they've realized that we do offer a healthy quality excellent you know a meal with excellent customer service and i believe that moving forward some of these students will continue to eat lunch even if the meals are going to be paid for now there are other factors that we must
051consider as we return to normal we will be reverting back to families having to pay for meals unless they qualify for free or reduced meal benefits as we are all aware of the current economic situation will be a decision that families will need to make to pay for school meals i would contend that the cost of a healthy and complete school breakfast or lunch that we do it best in the most affordable which brings us to the next slide for my recommendation and your consideration for meal prices for the 22-23 school year just like any other business we have been and will be continue to be affected by the current economic climate seeing massive increases in food and supply costs and it's my responsibility to ensure that we are covering our costs to keep the
052food service fund either at a break even or a positive balance so it does not need to be supplemented by the general fund so this is why i'm recommending a 30 cent increase at the elementaries a 50 increase at the middle schools a base price of three dollars and seventy cents at the high school and a two dollar and fifty set two dollar and fifty cent breakfast uh price across the district reviewing the anticipated expenditures and in discussion with other directors in the region these proposed meal prices are in alignment lastly i'd like to take a moment highlight what makes beaver creek city school student nutrition department stand out when it comes to school meals we serve quality compliant healthy meals with variety we implemented batch cooking at all schools if you're unfamiliar with batch
053cooking simply put it's we cook it fresh as the customer is going to receive it often in schools food is cooked in bulk and then at the beginning of lunch and then it's hot held all lunch which reduces the quality the longer it sits by batch cooking we ensure that students get the highest quality of each product we also offer a variety of food foods whether it's entrees fruits vegetables across all grade levels one thing i noticed during the pandemic that made me proud of what we do here is how we look to how we can serve students better a common theme among food service directors during the pandemic that they simply they simplified their menus or they reduced food options we took a different approach we actually added extra items to increase the choices
054for our students we're also very accommodating when it comes to special diets we work individually with families with whatever special diet their child needs some may be sensory menus some are due to severe food allergy some are religious whatever it may be we look to make those accommodations gluten-free seems to be so prevalent in today's world that last school year we developed a special gluten-free menu that was available in our interactive online menus and plan to continue doing that in years moving forward lastly i'd like to highlight our development of the mobile pre-order meals at beaver creek high school that has been fully operational for the last year and a half noticing the trend in the restaurant industry and how popular it became during the pandemic i thought this would be a great addition to
055our program students or staff at the high school have the ability to pre-order customized meals through our interactive menus that can be accessed through any device or downloaded on the nutraslice app they can order meals up to three days in advance and even do same-day same-day orders until nine a.m they have the ability to order customized salads subs wraps lunch combos or our popular specialty bar that rotates daily i couldn't be more proud of our department and the team that we have i'd be remiss if i didn't take this opportunity to thank them tonight they specialize in customer service they are kind and caring they embrace change thank you for your time today and i'll be glad to take any questions if you have i'm gonna tell you this is very impressive thank you i
056mean i can't believe the meals that you serve and like are you kidding me it was astonishing no really mad just blew my mind that number but our kids are very lucky to have you and your staff serving them but i am happy to do so and i know that they are too so i mean it's obvious you all care you put our kids first which is what we're all about at beaver creek absolutely so for me from the bottom of my heart thank you for what you're doing for our kids absolutely thank you mr mcconnell my gosh it's amazing i'll uh echo that sentiment i just add that i think it's really impressive how you how agile you've been and how well you've served our kids and it's such a phenomenal price point too
057it's just amazing how you do it so thank you thank you very much yeah i'll just oh i just wanted to echo what they said too but you said something that i don't know what people realize is atypical is that you do not we do not supplement this student nutrition fund from the general fund and i see all the time that districts are always having to do that so nice job to mr ashley to make it self-sustaining thank you very much and i always enjoy your enthusiasm i know i wish i could do like miss fiori did and just talk all about it without it but i know myself in public speaking i got to stay on script and i want to provide you with all the information that they can pre-order the meal that
058they want their specifications yep it's kind of cool how do they order there's an app so you can any any device or phone you can download the app and go on there you can you can log into the visa creek website and go to the nutraslice menus and then you can create an account and do it from your desktop if you like beaver creek high school specialty menu yeah you can go to the go to the pre-order menu and it gives you the options so it's actually pretty neat check it out separate area so actually at the high school i just i'm so used to saying we we've identified it as line one two three and four but it's really just one line but the one section of the serving area at the high school
059we converted to our mobile order pickup station so it doesn't operate like a traditional serving line where there's a cash register and the kids come up and go through you know it's they they do the pre-order meals and we have a whole system set up but um they basically they walk up whenever they've ordered a meal and we have that serving area where they typically would have the food served from but it's labeled and it has their name on it and they if they're picking up lunch a b or c or sometimes we offer it for students that leave before second period if they place an order and we'll have it ready for them and they just come pick it up it's it's ready as soon as the bell rings so does that speed up
060the food service it does it takes about 15 of our a business is all towards uh the pre-order system so it then that solves the problem of reducing the amount of students coming through the traditional times so what did you say of kids that free i mean they want these specialty meals that pre-workout that is at least 50 to 75 of it depending on the day especially nacho and taco bar day whole cow really yeah sometimes we'd have 100 110 of the specialty bars which is why i mentioned in this we're completely redoing what we're doing in the back of the house in the front of house just to make it a lot more efficient so is ferguson hall also have the pre-order option they they don't not okay not at this time so i'm
061freshman i'm keying in on the high school and then i'll venture out from there okay mr ashley i do have to tell you watching i've enjoyed watching mr thompson behind you because he looks like a proud dad watching his son get an award and he's shaking his head and pumping his chest so proud of his of his son standing there so he's been he's been an excellent mentor it is and i will tell you in the otton household so i had two high school students last year i was the one that woke up every morning and made their lunch every day and then when this moved forward they i said why don't you guys just try it and uh i have not made a lunch in like two years and so yeah and my daughter
062has already told me how many she there's so many meals that she absolutely loves that i anticipate with that maybe i won't be making lunches next year but i'd take your business yes i know well thank you josh appreciate it thanks greg okay our next uh item for board discussion uh this was similar but you see a word on the front that says revise we came to the board last month with a 23-24 school calendar and after the meeting a few days after we started looking at a few things that i think we were kind of hung up on and so i'm going to turn over to mr mann i'm going to let him kind of highlight some of the changes that we are proposing to the board this has not gone out to the
063public yet but i anticipate if the board would approve this we feel very comfortable we feel more comfortable with this one than the one the board approved last month so i'll turn it over to jeff thank you mr members of the board the the biggest driving point for the change in this calendar there is going to be the um the semesters if you look at first semester at the proposed one that's in your binder today it's 87 days second semester is 91 days the old one that was approved last board meeting was 82 days versus 96 days so we've we've reduced that gap significantly and and when we saw that we began to see some other pieces that we put in place so let me just kind of walk you through just minor changes the
064first three months on the first line there august september and october there's been no change november has been no change really the change starts in the december and the january time frame january 20 5th becomes the first day off from school and the 22nd is the end of first semester so the 22nd will is a friday it'll be the end of first semester that moves everything back five days it also allows us to capture january the first we had 11 days of holiday break winter break and now we're at 10 days so what that did was shorten the year which if you look at may there's an impact there on may where the end of the school year for students is thursday may 23rd and the end of the school year for staff is may
06524th whereas in the old calendar the end of the school school year for students was may 24th and staff were coming back after holiday on may 28th so it kind of made some sense to end it on a friday we we felt like that that made sense as well uh the the other item i just wanted to to highlight because i think it's quickly to be an assumption be made and if you look at april the 8th that is not easter monday and so people think that maybe easter monday which is actually the first of april and the reason we said why are we off april the 8th why don't you change that and look at a different idea so april the 8th is a total solar eclipse and we are in the path of
066totality which is not the greatest path to be in at dismissal for your school buses so from a safety perspective we we wanted to make that day a day off that way students could be protected inside or work with their parents or just to ensure that if they're outside they're doing things in a safe way we're we're not able to provide that safety and security on the way to the school buses and uh there is concern about that so we land on april the 8th is a day that we would take off for the parent-teacher conferences exchange day so biggest change that we have is in december and january pushing things back at that semester which does change the ending of the school year for students and staff ending may 23rd 24th and i just
067wanted to make that point of clarity on april the 8th because i think people could get confused but i wanted to give some background as to the decision mr mouton yeah and one thing typically we would like to have that monday off and i think that's something that we've we've tried to do i think that'll be our intent to continue to do that we entertain the thought of putting it in there anyway but then as soon as you put it in we now have the dilemma of pushing back the end of the school year to a friday and a tuesday meaning friday's last student day and tuesday would be our staff day and a couple problems arise when we have a holiday when our teachers are asked to come back that let's say the day
068after the holiday we will have our building principles we'll be asked can we come in on saturday defend to get our room cleaned out can we finish stuff up the problem that arises with that is when we start having people in the buildings then we're also starting to pay individuals for weekend work that we typically would not be paying like custodian work so we run into a lot of problems with that so we felt that it was best just to focus on moving that date off of the first and saying it's going to be the eighth just for those safety reasons i will remind the board that about four or five years ago we had something very similar we were not aware of the date until a few months i think before before it was
069going to occur school districts really in this area many of them closed as a calamity day just for those reasons we did not want to close so we went ahead and purchased solar glasses for our students then we brought our students out and had our students look through their solar glasses as they were instructed to look through their solar glasses to see that exactly so i think i have mine on my bookshelf in the office but we also recognize that we're dealing with a lot of young students that may want to try to see how well do the solar glasses work and it's probably best not to set that up especially if we know when that's going to occur and i would like to commend beth sizemore because beth could probably tell you every event
070that's going to happen for the next 30 years and so she gets pretty excited about that so beth was was on top of that date of april 8th so if the board has any questions we're happy to answer that but i will say if you're a teacher and you have a swing in your semester a difference of 12 days that's pretty impactful how do i teach this group of kids 12 days more than i'm going to teach this group and so this does get it to a closer balance and that was the driving force behind the change in just another quick comment the negotiated agreement with our teachers that we have some agreements and parameters there that that affect start of school time and that kind of stuff so we're working within all those um
071agreements that we have and um it's it's difficult in terms of kind of options there's only only two or three different options to really do on a calendar we've presented you two of them we think this is the best option any questions nope okay uh we'll ask for approval of this i believe tonight it's on the yes it's on the agenda tonight and then we will publish this on our website and push it out the families okay uh our next two items i'm going to ask mr schweiterman and mr schuman to come to the podium um i've shared with you you have a document that i uh put in your binder today and i sent you an email as well kind of a summary i'm looking at making some changes in our technology department i
072want to commend mr schuman if you see the document that i shared with you i believe it's a 20-page document front back and uh so mr schuman came in said i have a proposal for you we've done some research let me give you my proposal and it was one of the best things uh really to look at you know mike is an individual in our district that we are so fortunate to have and he's always looking at how can we be efficient but how can we be effective and support the staff so that we can do the things that need to happen and his world changes all the time so he is constantly talking about that i don't think he's going to talk about cyber security tonight but he might get you walking out to
073your car tonight about it so i'll turn it over these two gentlemen thank you very much mr otton board of education um this evening uh mr schuman and i would like to talk to just a little bit about this uh proposal in your board book we're actually covering items board discussion letters c d and e and if you want to look at corresponding documents that go with those recommendations you can turn to beginning at page 50 through 57 and then as mr odden said you also have the research that mr schuman did concerning this proposal i had the opportunity to sit down with mr schuman as well and go through that proposal and helped write the summary that you received from mr otten um i think last probably last late last week or middle of
074last week and so um mr schuman um looking at his apartment department and after we received the resignation of a staff member he conducted a review and some research of the best practices and we'll let him talk about that in a few minutes in the industry as well as some comparables of our local school districts and other school districts around to look at their technology departments and how are we supporting the changes in in technology and we also included our department employees in that discussion mr schuman did i wasn't part of that discussion but so i don't i don't mean we isn't like darren um two areas that were really looked at are back end operations in our technology department when you think of that that's the stuff that goes on behind the scenes things
075like adding additional systems that are regularly added and things like cyber cyber security those are things that we have to do behind the scenes on a regular basis to keep our district safe to keep our network safe to keep our technology safe for our students and then how do we support our teachers and our students through the implementation of software so those are the two areas that mr schuman looked at and the recommendation out of that in summary is to take one of our we have two system network administrators in the district right now and take one of them and promote him to uh network and senior network and system as administrator and then we have a couple job descriptions that we want to change we have two current job descriptions whose title is um
076computer technician or lead computer technician and that denotes hardware like we think of a computer we think of the hardware right but there's so much more to technology than just the hardware that exists and so changing those two titles uh to be it support technician because that will encompass both software and hardware and be a better description of what what they do those are just title changes on those two job descriptions but the cis senior systems network administrator job description that is a new job description taking elements of the current job description but the increased responsibility for the new position that we're coming to you and asking about this evening and then one of the things that uh and i'll let mike talk about this a little bit more one of the things that our
077computer technicians do right now requires some of them to be able to do a higher level of something that's maybe within their job description but a higher level of expertise and the idea of taking the proposed salary schedule and adding a line at that bottom of that exempt hourly schedule which allows us to pay two dollars more per hour to the lead ittech and it support technician as determined by the director of technology when we're involved in certain um certain projects or certain things that require a higher level of work during that period of time so i'll let turn it over to mike now and let him talk a little bit more about that what you have logistically in your board book this evening we will ask later for your approval is the adjusted salary
078schedule and job descriptions mike thank you darren so what i got out of that is i did a great job communicating because he got it all right it was perfect this started again when because we've actually had two technology position technicians really leave the district over the past two years first one was during covet and it wasn't difficult to let the technician go and we didn't replace it and then this last year we had one who left and we still are keeping up so i got to the team together we're a technology team that's what we do we went to lunch at el toro and we said where are we lacking in district because i'm watching the help desk and they're keeping up we're down two people and they're doing a great job it's because
079we have technicians who are good at going in and fixing anything you need fixed and then we have systems and network administrators who help with everything on the back where we're lacking is we have way more systems than we used to have so waiting on the systems and network administrators with the correct knowledge and information to fix something for the technicians so they can do their job is kind of one of the areas where we're lacking and the other area in this district is our teachers have way more systems that they deal with every day in the classroom and somehow they need support in the classroom that's not what a normal computer technician does they don't go in and help you use the smart board they don't go in and help you log into the
080grade book and figure out why your reports aren't running correctly so that's what this is a result of that research we said we need somebody who can take our technicians and bring them to the next level of support so we're really building a three-tier support level instead of two we'll have our technicians we'll give a few of the technicians a little bit extra incentive and training and we'll have them in systems and we'll have them in curriculum support in the classroom and that'll help us bridge that gap and we should still be able to keep up with our normal help desk at the beginning of the year they will be going and setting things up just like normal but as soon as we're caught up they'll have additional responsibilities and then the senior network and
081systems administrator will be responsible for mentoring the people that are going to do a additional systems support great example is you know we image machines all the time we have one person who's really good at that there's no reason i don't like it when i say that about anything in technology there should always be at least two people who have some idea what's going on so he's training one of the technicians to take care of that and that will free his time up for what i said i wouldn't talk about which is cyber security if you look on the job description for uh hang on i thought he wasn't going to say it almost made it procedure network and systems administrator the additional job responsibilities really deal with mentoring technicians and cyber security that's not
082going to get any smaller we just keep going and going if you're really interested we're resubmitting the entire district this summer as part of that so that's a fun project so that's the why that's behind it the research i did yeah i went and looked at what the salaries are it's hard to compare in technology because what we call systems a network administrator in a school district of 8000 is way different than what it is in a school district of 160 000 or a business of whatever when you look at what the responsibilities are that's kind of what i tried to base it on and we're this makes us more competitive because it's about that if somebody leaves we want somebody to come in who can handle the same thing we want to be competitive
083in that area we're a little lower still but working in education has additional benefits and most people can understand that when you talk to them so i think we did pretty well with where we're at any questions and typically as we talk about personnel positions we really push to present and then approve the following month this is something that i felt uh obviously with mike's about what mike has done the work mike's done um that we would ask the board to move forward because it is critical that the amount of time that mike himself is spending doing stuff um and um i mean he's supporting his team the way he's supposed to but he needs to be doing other stuff to get ready for the upcoming school year as well so i figured instead of
084waiting uh we would try to move forward to do this quickly so yeah this looks very well thought out i i hope it over uh reportedly very carefully and i appreciate the thought and diligence that went into it and uh if mike's not hitting on cyber security as much i want to take a moment to just remind folks how important that is i work in defense and intelligence where cyber security is critically important we and i'm regularly briefed on the threats that are out there against computer systems and for one of the things that is relevant for a school district like ours is that we are considered what's called a soft target people tend to think that school districts are the hackers tend to think that school districts are easier to hack into and just
085think of what we would go through if somebody had stolen all the private information about our children was holding that hostage and so i i want to applaud mike for being strong and supportive about cyber security and making sure that beaver fix rules is not a soft target because uh it's it's really important uh and it's something you never want to see happen so thank you for that thanks i didn't pay him for that yeah that's good that's me is that you yeah i'm the switchboard yeah that's my job to make sure things get assigned to the right people and the right people have the rights and if somebody isn't able to handle it what do i need to do to get them there or who else needs to take over is that an additional
086requirement for you no that's what i've done the whole time yeah and we work as a team this team they they gel well they know what each other know and they help each other all the time their goal quite often is to not call me they go and talk to the people they need to talk to and leave me out of it unless a decision has to be made that they think i should have input on thank you great thank you both appreciate that and that concludes items for board discussion okay so we're in financial reports and i'm going to need a motion and a second to approve the following the may 2022 financial reports fiscal year 22 amended certificate of estimated resources and appropriations may 2022 donated items fiscal year 23 initial appropriations fiscal
087year and fund to fund transfers and advances now hire a vice code 5705.41 d purchase order certification second any discussion no no okay please call the vote mr stein yes mrs hunt yes dr fisher yes mr taylor miss regano yes motion passes and under new business items board action i'm going to need a motion and a second to approve the following the employment salary changes leaves of absence and terminations approval of fiscal year 2023 school fee schedule approval of type 4 2021-22 final board sheet approval of the course of study textbook adoption approval revised 2023 24 school calendar approval of new job description number approval of title revisions to job descriptions 217 and 512. approval of updated fiscal year 23 exempt pay schedule fiscal year 23 administrator salary schedule and fiscal 20 year 23 manager
088coordinator salary schedule any discussions yes i have a couple items here first one uh looking at item a employment i would like to direct your attention to the back of the room and introduce christine schmidt christine will be our new ferguson hall counselor she is a beaver creek resident and she is coming to us from tippecanoe high school tip city where she's been there the last seven years and uh worked at graham as well as as an english teacher i believe christine won't let you know i don't know that about everybody we hire so yes so uh mr schwederman help me out with that so so if the uh she'll she's on for approval tonight um item b obviously is our fee schedule i would like to give you some good news for our community
089as costs continue to rise we are actually reducing fees at our high school so there's a number of fees that are high school everything else there has been pretty stagnant but the high school fees appear to be going down and then obviously our course of study textbook adoption i would like to truly thank dr fiori and her team i believe that was an outstanding process they went through to get our teachers to have the buy-in the where they're at and finally our revised school calendar once you approve that tonight we will get that pushed out so that concludes my comments and i'd like to be the first to welcome christine welcome welcome please call the vote oh yeah mr taylor yes dr fisher yes mrs hunt yes mrs regano yes and mr stein yes motion
090passes and we're into announcements so juneteenth holiday all offices are closed on june 20th fourth of july offices are closed and the board of education meeting is july 14 at 6 30 p.m that's next month and we're into board comments doctor oh yeah good for sure i said no i can't um i just i want to uh celebrate all the accomplishments the students we saw tonight that was uh really fun it's great to see all that um i was really struck tonight with all the diligence that went into the work so your comment about dr perry's work and really all of the presentations we saw tonight were very well prepared and thought out and it just really struck me how how well uh we're operating as an organization so i want to thank you all
091for for that diligence preparing all this work and i want to thank the members of the public who came to share their perspectives with us tonight uh it was good to hear from the community uh that uh that they're paying attention what's going on in the legislature and uh and sharing our thoughts and perspectives so that's all okay this is hon jumping around um again like he said um just exciting to see students here i was i thought it was cool to see the graduates really take this as a formal ceremony for him um i'm not sure every teenager would have done that so i thought that was awesome and he said for us to remember him because remember standing next to him so i guess we need to write down his name his name
092is going to be he's going to do something big um sitting on athletic council i'm i kind of keep an eye on the camps and things that are going on all of our sports are running summer camps uh next week is our cross country camp this week was football and girls basketball there's lots of camps going on it's just fun to see kids having a normal summer um and getting to participate in all those things um and seeing our coaches pour their hearts into those kind of things i saw a ton of pictures there's pictures on the girls basketball website if you want to see all the fun stuff the kids did this week our new football coach i think made it a great week for our football players so that's exciting to see and
093i hope that our teachers are enjoying a well-deserved summer break i'm sure that a lot of them are working and preparing anyway or reading or going to training but i hope they're on a beach somewhere at some point that's all i got okay mr taylor taylor hey um of course the students we had the presentations we had it just as uh the amount of excellence that goes on in beaverton across the board academically in sports that really looks it's a part of the flagship of what makes our community a special community i'm talking to somebody yesterday why they moved here why did they why did you guys deep improvement you could have picked a lot of other school systems around and they said there was just only one reason and it was the schools and
094so that's why people want to come here lots of opportunity this person had moved from down in adams county somewhere and said the best the best thing ever because here my kids have opportunities outside of the academic side which beaver creek has known so well but you know the sports and the arts and all those kind of things really hit home and i'm constantly reminded of that by young people who are moving into all the houses lots of housing exchange going on right now so get a chance to see that going on um i was just thinking as bobby was doing her presentation on textbook adoption so i've been obviously you're calculating how many how many of those have i been through so there's about seven of those and uh uh it's tedious at times
095and it's visceral at times people have strong beliefs about how academics are presented in the school system and i don't i'm guessing you haven't had any pushback politically on some of the books so that's a good thing that makes me happy because it really shouldn't be an issue in picking math textbooks but apparently some places it is right yeah did you get much participation in that just probably bears repeating for the folks who are watching online and probably couldn't hear dr fiore that those books were all available at curriculum night correct yeah and parents are concerned as well at the end of the day um let's see and um so the nutrition situation is it seems to me like a kind of a moving target right now because we had this discussion at the career
096center as well and what's going to happen you know there is no definitive answer yet about whether what positions schools lunches are next year is there what i thought so you know here you are trying to uh in the dark try and figure out what you're gonna what you're gonna do to make it viable for the students for the cost of the parents and and all those situations going on so we have no idea how that's how that's going to work out so good luck uh career center we're just moving along staff changes again lots of awards of excellence and all the different all the different areas looking forward to the kids the seniors are looking forward to mostly moving into the professions that they've decided to study so we're all excited about that and
097it just is uh you know busy times so people think that schools are shut down in the summer but very much a busy time to try and figure out a plan for what's going to happen next and i will be quiet i'm good so i guess that leads you mr science it leaves me and most of the things i was going to talk about you all have already mentioned so instead of repeating i'll just say that i was really excited to take a picture with our members of the academic team um because they're on so our social media all the time all the time so i'm like wow i've seen lots of pictures of them because they're they're always winning so it's very exciting to i i was on the academic team in high school
098and when i became a teacher i was coaching academic team did not have the success that they have so it's very very nice to honor them tonight and to get a picture with them we'll make sure it gets on social media for you yeah you can say there you are that's me that's it well i would just like to thank our administrators our teachers we're in such good hands in this district from our nutrition staff and you just blew my mind tonight serious in all seriousness i mean it's like i couldn't believe those staggering numbers to our book adoption i know i've had teachers come up to me dr fury to tell me how well things went this year and how you've listened to them and how appreciative they were of you i know as
099a teacher it is nice to be respected and to take my opinion for something because i'm the person in the classroom so that you have no idea that what that meant so and thank you from me and one ended with you know we have incredible staff and jennifer schmidt which is our high school one of our high school teachers had her second book published her students are on the spectrum and these this book is being used at the high school ferguson ankeny and koi and this this time this book was written with mrs schmidt who was at the high school and mrs barnett who was at um ankeny so i just had to brag on our teachers because i've read a lot of this book this is amazing this curriculum so thank you thank you
100thank you we've got incredible staff and there's just one proof if i can add when we're talking about accomplishments of our staff i do have one other staff member i want to focus on an accomplishment and that would be mr madden mr madden okay recently mr man recently earned his bus driver's license that's all right so he is now in the queue for driving a bus in the fall when he's needed so we are very excited about he worked very hard for that he he will tell you just so everybody understands jeff said to me when he took his test he said i was more nervous taking that test than the first time i interviewed as an administrator it is it is the most intense process so our bus drivers i think everybody thinks they
101just walk through and do stuff it is very very difficult to do what they do and to go through the program the classes the training that our bus drivers go through we have they are professional drivers they truly are so i want to congratulate mr man as he accomplished that just a few weeks ago are you kidding me i mean i think paul's excited to be sharing that yeah with someone else now yeah we have a hundred bus drivers that have accomplished it and uh trust me they're they don't get my recognition i just got it yeah now our bus drivers are amazing they are between the bus drivers and the mechanics over there that i call our bus surgeons that's my new name from them it's true but they are bus drivers really are
102amazing and the way they take care of our kids i mean when i was a teacher and they would pull up you know at the end of school at the beginning of school at the end of the day kids are getting on they're so excited to see the kids the kids are getting i'm like okay i mean it's just amazing it's like their own little family on those buses so it truly is i mean i would say to those drivers oh my gosh i cannot even imagine you doing this job really because the responsibility of all those kids in your hands and i've also seen in my neighborhood all right i think you ought to stop talking so we're so excited for you and for our kids and you know i thank you for doing
