miss regano yes martian carries okay um we're into presentations yes we have one presentation this evening i'm very excited to uh this is something we started years ago and obviously we stopped doing it because of the kovid issues that we've been dealing with and we are excited to welcome back our first school spotlight and mrs peevler volunteered to be the first one because they were recognized so we want to thank mrs peevler and shaw elementary school so with this i'll turn it over to mrs peebler all right you guys go ahead and line up right here okay so some of you come on in parents you can come up here if you want to so you can see it won't stay long i promise um so some of you might know safety patrol for it's

been around for literally 100 years um and this year was the 100th anniversary celebration and so aaa actually came and celebrated with us last week i think it was you know october 6th last spring i have two fabulous fifth grade teachers mrs gentile and mrs thomas who came to me and said hey we want to get this started at shaw we don't have this going on in beaver creek so can we do this i'm like yes opportunity for kids to show leadership citizenship caring caring citizens and so we ran with it they had to do you guys have to apply for this position correct yes as you can see we have a group of them here but not everybody could come and that's okay and there we go um and triple a sent out some

training for us to do with the kids they stayed after school to do their training to help understand the safety awareness going on around them to work on their leadership skills their teamwork respecting law enforcement citizenship and pride so these are all the benefits of our safety patrol and their role in it this was our training and they had to take an oath didn't you guys do you remember that and then these are some pictures of them on patrol so we do happen to have 10 buses we have two parent loops and we have a lot of walkers so we have a lot of areas around our school that need help with helping children know which way to go helping them on the buses we actually have them walking our kindergarten kids to their buses

and to their parents so it's they are able to step up and be real good leaders here they do not direct traffic for cars but they do however direct traffic for walking students so this is what they're doing here stay in here and they love being safety patrols on the buses they the kids look up to them they wear their badges every their sashes every day so on october 6 we had the mayor and aaa come out and we did the 100th year celebration and they had us raise the safety patrol flag um at our school and we got to keep that and we had the mayor made a proclamation that october 6th the safety patrol day in beaver creek so that was really fun they all got to meet the mayor and they also

met our sheriff who was also a safety patroller so he talked to them for a while and he made the joke of no i wasn't the original 100 years ago but i was on the safety patrol and now i'm i'm going to stop talking and let some of our students talk so we're gonna we have we did a writing um assignment if you will about who wanted to speak here and so the top two get to speak now so ima do you want to start so my name's chatna i'm part of the safety patrol program at shaw elementary so this i'm here to tell you about my own experience as a safety patroller the safety patrol program's goal is to keep to create a safe school environment for students by identifying safety hazards and helping

those in need the role of the safety patrol program is to help keep students safe when they're coming and leaving school so we never direct traffic and we greet students help them cross streets and help them get in and out of their vehicles safely my experience as a safety patroller has been very good it has taught me to be more respectful responsible and more alert it has also taught me to be a problem solver by solving issues related to unsafe behavior it is developing leadership skills in me and i'm very proud to be a part of safety patrol thank you [Applause] you can read it it's okay my name is emma and my job as a safety patroller is to stand by the breezeway doors in between the second grade and from fourth grade hallway

and greet students in the morning and say goodbye at the end of the day i also help out by opening and closing the doors it may not seem like a lot overall it is more than what it and i love my post and i think i have an awesome job safety patrol means a lot to me and it is more than just an excuse to be able to come to school early or get dismissed from class i have the most i have um i've had i have had the most precious time with safety patrol safety patrol has also taught me to be a caring citizen in my community and lend a hand to others all in all safety control is one of my biggest influence and inspires me to be a better person thank you

[Applause] all right so i just wanted to say thanks for having us today and letting us share with you a little bit about our program do you guys have any questions of our safety patrollers go ahead well i think i just want to thank all of you for coming i think you are doing a great job a great service this is a great characteristic program too i like that it's tied into that you know i used to teach i know the character it programs like and i want you to know we're really proud of all of you for stepping up to want to do this we're really proud that you came to prep you to present yourselves tonight you did a really great job and we love shaw so thank you shaw for coming yes

they give them a big hand [Applause] i just have one comment sure i had to use my paper pencil here and did a little math so 55 years ago yes i had the honor of leading the safety patrol at my school in west carolina ohio oh wow yay yeah and uh just as you guys know what an honor it is to be able to have this position it's a position of great responsibility and it reflects on your school your community that that you are out there ready to provide a service for those who need it and safety is one of our top in fact if not our top priority here so thanks again thank you very much it was wonderful thank you i'd like to know can you tell me what's your favorite thing about

being on the safety patrol yes that's a great idea being able to help others yes somebody else oh i'm sorry yes you are playing an important role that is a very good comment you're right about that that's great all the way on the internet oh i didn't see the hand down there yes that is very important to get kids on the bus safely thank you so much for doing that and i know the kids appreciate that i know their parents do too yes [Music] oh that is wonderful thank you for doing that and i know that kid appreciated it didn't that make you feel good anybody else thank you so much thanks again for letting us come in today come back and visit us bye and thank you parents for coming and that concludes our

presentation for this evening okay okay we are into the questions and comments from the public we have 30 minutes for this so i just want to let you know i'm going to since we have a lot of speakers tonight i'm just going to tell you instead of telling each one separately um you have three minutes to speak when you come up please state your name and address um should your comments require something from us because the board does not will not respond to you tonight but should you have a comment that needs a comment back from us the appropriate person will get back to you within a week so we just want you to know that and thank you for coming to talk to us tonight and if i slaughter your name please forgive me

but i'm first one is bradford west i hope that's right hello again bradford west emerald court i'm not here to again bore you with the latest studies and statistics rather i'm here because as you surely know and the public is more aware of than you may want to believe the election of three seats of this board is upon us as i hope you've noticed over the last several months there is a difference of opinion among us the parents of the district in that light i am confident that with the result of the election there will be a representation of those differences of opinion here amongst you the board members i am one among a cold court of 900 people over 900 people who have been closely following this school board and hot ticket issues plaguing

you recently i do not claim to represent this group but rest assured we are simpatico in the principle of sticking up for what is right for our children i'll yield that not all 900 are likely voting district members but give us the benefit of doubt let's say there are a mere three-quarters or even half by what margin of votes did you win these seats that you currently hold i'm here to find out which of you is deserving of our votes ms rogano you've expressed your trust in the science for mandating mass potentially vaccines in recent social media interactions you stated quote transgenders will be accommodated as a father i read that as you will allow a biological male claiming to be a trans female to enter a female rescue with my 10 and 13 year

old daughters would you care to clarify what exactly you meant and elaborate on how science plays into that position of course you're not going to want to answer tonight ms i'm curious if you have a position on that as well also miss hunt in a recent questionnaire published by the cfbb they claim that you feel that quote the board must decide together policies for health and that you quote believe in parent choice for mask wearing if this accurately describes your positions i again call on you to give us a reason to vote hunt next month that reason being that you stood up tonight and voted to overturn mr ogden's unilateral decision to impose the mandate though i may not choose to capitalize on my entitlement to enroll my children in public schools next year it

is still my entitlement and i will be here to rein you in for the next 18 years while that little baby grows up because they are eligible for that entitlement i'll see you next month renee ryan my name is renee ryan and i live at 1357 chelsea court i am here tonight in support of the bhs women's lacrosse coaching staff my daughter riley is a junior on the team and was called down to the principal's office early in the school year she was asked various questions regarding the coaching staff specific to the 2021 season i understand that there's a parent requesting the staff to be fired and i think the removal of the current staff would be a terrible mistake i have known michelle sorensen and kent critchlow for eight years and i've known jolene

towers for 15 years the significant amount of time and effort spent by michelle and jolene over the last six years to establish and develop the women's lacrosse program will never be appreciated enough michelle and jolene do not have children playing on the team yet they continue to dedicate themselves year round to this program michelle and jolene devote significant time they spend endless hours fundraising coordinating off season camps and workouts as well as supporting adopt a family at christmas their deep commitment and dedication to the success and growth of the women's lacrosse program is extremely admirable and should not be taken for granted we also believe that the addition of kent critchlow who is michelle's father to the coaching staff has helped to take the women's lacrosse team to a more competitive level than in previous

years he holds the girls accountable regarding their overall fitness and expects them to perform both on and off the field he provides structure and discipline which makes the team better i was fortunate enough myself to coach the beaver creek stars basketball program for six years and i also coached the middle school lacrosse program for three years i know from experience there will always be parents who are unhappy due to the lack of playing time decisions regarding the program both on and off the field coaching style or a lack of recognition for their own child no coach is perfect the bh women's lacrosse program has a strong foundation with a winning culture and i believe the removal of the current coaching staff would damage the program and the positive momentum thank you for your consideration john

frazier um danny lift this up okay absolutely just okay you can adjust it messing up everybody afterwards i go the opposite way good evening uh first thank you for the opportunity to speak tonight first to be clear i have not been asked by any coaches or administrators to talk tonight my name is dr john frazee i live at 3746 rideau court here in beaver creek a quick background on my athletic time in high school i lettered three years in football basketball and track i played intercol intercollegiate basketball at the ncaa division one at the air force academy i'm currently getting certified to be a basketball referee in ohio i've also coached sports at all levels including certification as a high school coach through osha i'm here tonight to voice complete support for the women's lacrosse

coaches coach sorenson towers and chrislow are running an exceptional program that should be the model for all sports for beaver creek in all my years in sports i can unequivocally state these three coaches are in the top tier john wooden the 10-time national champion coach from ucla said a coach's primary function should be not to make better players but to make better people this is exactly the experience my daughter britain has had with these three coaches i want to make three points tonight first one parent does not talk for all parents if you look at the entire history of the parents making these accusations and how they interacted with the school the family making these interactions these accusations act like there's one set of rules for their daughter and another set for everybody else this

is not just sports either but also academics and i can provide specific examples if needed second lacrosse program is successful because of all three coaches each coach has a unique role that makes the entire team better that becomes abundantly clear when you watch the games it is clear that each coach is teaching the players how to be successful in sports and in life sometimes that means support the players on the field to ensure the development of future players and not just the playing time of one individual third one person or one family should not be allowed to ruin a season covet 19 took one season for these girls already let them have a great year there are other accusations being made i'd like to chance to support the coaches again in the future if needed

because all the accusations i've heard are false if it isn't already these false accusations are getting very close to harassment of these coaches who are district employees before i close i have one question if there were such issues with the program why is a volunteer coach on this team for three years is this person just speaking now it should be noted that all these accusations started because he didn't like his daughter's playing time even though she started every game bill belichick the six time super bowl winning coach has a quote that should be relayed to this family mental toughness is doing the right thing for the team when it's not the best thing for you all these girls have worked very hard for their senior season please do not let one disgruntled parent ruin the

season for this group or any other future season let the coaches coach let the players play and let's have a great year each board member received an email from me that i sent to the superintendent the ad the principal in human resources and i can provide copies of what i said today thank you for your time [Applause] carrie weiss carrie wiese 2992 idaho falls drive hello everyone i want to thank the board members for giving me the opportunity to speak tonight in support of the women's lacrosse program at beaver creek high school and the current coaching staff i am hoping that all of you had the chance to read my email that i forwarded to the board today that i sent on september 28th to paul otten del ren and brad pompus i just wanted

to reiterate some of the key points for my email i have heard through the grapevine and my daughter that there has been some disgruntled talk about the current program and was specifically approached by a varsity parent who shared that many were upset that some jv members received varsity letters last season including my daughter my daughter rachel was not able to try out or attend preseason workouts in the 2021 season due to her involvement in basketball cheer and covet cross-contamination between the two sports she contemplated not playing last season after she was put on the jv team because she thought she deserved a varsity spot and didn't fully understand some of the decisions that were made she decided to play because of her coach jolene towers if i were asked to give three words to describe

coach towers i would say positive cheerleader and supportive coach towers is a huge role model for these girls and always talks to them in a positive supportive manner i witnessed this personally as i took statistics at half of the lacrosse games it was on the field with the girls every home game and was within the earshot of coach towers she was their biggest cheerleader on the field and off offering her support and guidance throughout the season my experience with coach sorensen has always been positive three words to describe coach sorensen are sweet committed and approachable coach sorenson wants the best for these girls and is fully committed to making the lacrosse program competitive fun and rewarding she also has a huge art and has reached out to rachel on numerous occasions in person and by

phone to offer her advice support and encouragement my interaction with coach chrysler has been limited but if i had to describe him as a coach in three words i would say passionate intense and determined he wants these girls to succeed because he sees the potential in the varsity team and pushes the girls to work hard rachel has never heard coach critchlow be rude or demeaning of practices or games as a parent we often do not understand the reason behind a girl's placement playing time or decision to earn a varsity letter we as parents should let the coaching staff coach and make these decisions and not question them or create unnecessary havoc this is easier said than done these coaches have given their time and effort to build a fantastic lacrosse program at beavercreek high school

without them this program would simply fall apart is it worth reinventing the wheel and asking these coaches for disgruntled parents thank you [Applause] kate rice hi my name is kate rice i live at 1361 town hall road this is my fourth year on the beaver creek high school women's lacrosse varsity team this past year i had the opportunity to work close with the coaches as a co-captain they taught me that as a leader you must promote a positive attitude on the team to strive for greatness and that when you focus on the positives you become a more optimistic of your whole well-being and when you acknowledge the good you create a solid foundation for success and that's exactly what they did some of our girls on the team have been called into the office and

asked about their experience on the woman's lacrosse team i too would like my voice heard i would like to express the positive impact coach sorenson coach chrislow and coach towers have had on the beavercreek high school women's lacrosse program and the personal impact they have made on my life our coaches are the reason that when you watch us play you see an entire unit working together to dominate the ball they are the reason we went from a team with a losing record my freshman year to a 14-4 season this past year it was our coaches who helped us create our team chemistry and our driven mindsets that have greatly improved our program and it's because our coaches show us how much they care that we have grown so much stronger i am very grateful that

we get to hold practices with coaches who care so deeply for us and are willing to encourage us to become our best selves our coaches motivate each of us so that as a team we can achieve our biggest goals we love our coaches we love our women's lacrosse program thank you for your time and support thank you mark myers 1634 applewood drive beaver creek um i i truly am amazed this is my daughter ava she is uh also on the beaver creek women's lacrosse stream uh truly amazed at the appearance and and what i've heard there this evening renee absolutely i totally mirror the sentiment i wasn't clear when i came here this evening exactly what was going on i knew that the beaver creek lacrosse women's program coaches were under attack externally haven't heard

exactly what they were under attack about or what those complaints were i know that i personally have experience in as a coach it is very tough we don't always make the right decisions parents always want to protect their children in any scenario their idea fair externally is is their perspective and i respect that i didn't hear what all of those complaints actually were but i know that you know that parent probably has their own reasonings behind it however what i've experienced also as a coach is we're there to help help our teammates grow and that is indeed an uncomfortable scenario sometimes that is holding people accountable holding your teammates accountable for their actions for the playing and sometimes it's not perceived as fair but it is what it is that's what we do as coaches

and i've had parents complain about my coaching and that's what parents do they're there to protect their children and so i personally have have loved the growth in my daughter ava from being on that team and being blessed with these coaches thank you michael lindsey all right good evening um uh my name is michael lindsey but recently i've started going by the title uh mr allison lindsay i leave at 2738 riverstone court in beaver creek township four or five my children are in bcs schools but you know that i'd like to focus my remarks uh tonight on one thing i'd like to address the bcs mass policies i'm not here to debate health and safety this is the third school board meeting since the district implemented a broad brush masking policy without any open public

for the record board vote it's been requested numerous times i've watched them at home with my kids in this forum for months now and yet here we are tonight i'm asking the board tonight to make a motion to agendize a board vote on bcs masking policies so the community knows where each board member stands regarding mandatory masking policies this is very discouraging and it gives the appearance that the board its president and the superintendent are hiding behind agenda policies to avoid vote for record accountability to parents and taxpayers on parents choice for masking or universal mask mandates it also appears that board members lack the courage to vote their convictions pursuant to board policy zero one two three code of essex code of ethics and conduct but we don't need a vote we could revise

an optional mask policy this week and follow the lead of more than half of the rest of the school districts in ohio we haven't exhausted all options to us as of today october 21st 2021 53.7 percent of ohio state districts have an optional mass policy for all students this was a standalone statistic but not in beaver creek what's the holdup and what's the delay is an rbcs theme to lead and empower an ohio news article published just last week stated in several districts school officials said test and state protocols are helping them avoid quarantines in the mask optional setting these districts have an option for exposed students to remain in school if they agree to wear mask and test negative ohio state superintendents have said the mass changes make it more feasible to operate without

mass mandates koved will never go away but right now it's in a steep decline the ohio department of health is reporting a seven-day average of 4529 cases a 37.7 percent decline from the recent peak in mid-september my questions for the board is why are we behind the power curve where is our forward phase planned to normalcy why are our students still behind masks that metric is it's time for a change and our healthy kids shouldn't have to wear masks anymore no more mandates thank you go out and vote november 2nd well listen lindsay good evening my name is allison lindsey and i am a beaver creek resident there is frustration in our community right now and i believe that a lot of tensions could be eased if the board listened and then responded to the

concerns presented by our community please just be open to the concerns and please respond to some of these parents individually having said that i have two requests or questions for the board and i respectfully request a response within seven days as per board policy question one in regard to covid policies will you please organize a community form with the experts you are deferring your decision making to parents want transparency and answers and if you cannot provide them please provide an avenue for parents to get those answers namely what do things have to look like to finally return to normal normal meaning we are no longer excluding and i use that word purposely excluding healthy students from attending school and parents have the freedom to decide if they want their child to wear a mask seven

hours a day for multiple school years in a row please do not tell parents to attend greene county public health meetings to get answers we did not elect them to make choices for our children and they have we have no recourse with them and they have no obligation to us questions too i respectfully request an answer to the following questions does the board believe beaver creek city schools are systemically racist does the board believe our teachers are racist and our staff need to undergo implicit bias training does the board believe we should teach our students that our country is systemically racist what is the board's definition of equity what does equity implant implemented in education look like to the board please be specific when i ask people about this i get very fuzzy answers and

it often goes off into conversations about teaching history on a deeper level is the board working to develop a diversity equity and inclusion plan or had conversations about creating one if so why does the board feel this is needed if so what groups individuals and programs have the district and board discuss this with if you are planning to or have had these conversations have you or will you please inform parents before moving forward anymore this is not a red herring that is relevant and needs to be addressed as they run for school board they come up these questions last week i was invited and accepted the invitation to testify before the ohio state board of education about resolution 20 the equity resolution it deals with this very subject thankfully that board rescinded it and replaced

it with a different resolution resolution 13 to promote academic excellence i end with a quote by dieter utdorf conflict is inevitable but contention is not we may have conflicting views but i hold no ill will toward any member here on the board i just have some questions thank you for your time i will email these questions to the board tonight and i look forward to your responses within seven days thank you hi mr christine i'm lunch what's up sorry i couldn't read the writing hi i'm chrisana anderson lutz 2102 march field way um i am here as yet another voice to speak on behalf of the women's lacrosse team coaches um i'm actually not even a little bit surprised at how many parents and girls on the team are here tonight i am surprised that

having been the team mom for three years i have not heard any of the accusations that are being made against the coaches i would think that i would definitely be a first line if someone had a problem with a coach and i haven't heard anything unfortunately i believe that the coaches do a phenomenal job my daughter has had a wonderful experience on the team and she would like to be able to continue her senior year with the same coaches that she's come to know and love i again i don't know what accusations are being made i have recently heard who the family is that's making the accusations i don't understand where it's coming from they're a lovely family they have an amazing daughter she's a phenomenal player i think everybody on the team loves her

this is nothing against that family at all i don't know the accusations i do know that i want my daughter to be able to have the best season possible and all of these girls that are sitting here deserve to have the best season possible so that's it thank you thank you [Applause] matthew truman hello matthew truman 102 ridgebrook trail madam president board superintendent boden thank you for the time to speak i would like to begin by saying my family chose to live in this district because of the school system so the current members of this board are in part responsible for the success of this district and those of us who have flocked to beaver creek to enjoy a school system that provides a great education for our children i would be remiss if i

didn't mention the amazing teachers staff and transportation employees thank you all today however i would like to express my concern with mandates currently this board has issued a mandate for all of our children lots of explanations have been given to support mask mandates as we all understand scientific data can be used in a myriad of directions to sell a point either way many of us are already solidified in our views understandably so however you are those who are charged to make the ultimate decisions you have made those decisions with that i would like to ask you to reverse the decision and lift the current mask mandates why because you and i know they simply don't impact our students a recent story printed in the dayton daily news proves my point from the reporting beaver creek

had the most masked exemption request and not one was denied miss regano you recently posted on your facebook page a picture of yourself and another gentleman who spoke at a high school you were indoors not wearing a mask and you weren't social distant you yourselves have broken the rules of the government agencies this board has cited for making and masking our children if you are going to choose to go masterless yourselves knowing you're at a higher risk category why mass children who by all statistics are not vulnerable children get sick they are resilient and recover they recover from the flu from the cold and yes from covid19 they build needed antibodies that help them develop into strong healthy adults so i ask again please lift the mandates now for the health of our children thank

you sorry if i mispronounced your name used to do it yeah that's good my name is matt savikovich i live at 1503 lemke road i have three children in the district i just want to address to the board a few concerns that i have on mandates with cases on the decline in area schools shedding their mass mandates i urge this school board to follow suit according to your own policy the masks work well enough that if a mass child is exposed they do not do not need a quarantine you can make mask optional and the parents who feel the need to mass can do so and not worry about what other kids do since the masks are effective enough to keep children from going into quarantine that are exposed your own policy contradicts the policy

last year which was following the science of my mass protects you and where my mass protects you and your max protects me arguments that the pro-mass parents have been making i have nothing against parents masking their kids i think it should be an individual choice as far as any pending vaccine requirements i will not comply and will pull my three children out of the district if it's mandated here i don't want to have to do that they do very well here and have great teachers considering your history of levees failing and then barely passing i would think very hard about enacting a policy that will alienate at least half of your voters i know i would never vote for levy again if you mandate this shot on our children one final thing i would like

to say is about concerns about transparency on this board how can anyone trust anything that comes out of this board when the board president is deleting valid questions from voters on our facebook reelecting page and then blocking these people from asking follow-up questions uh the questions had to do with how are my children going to be protected from a transgender boy wanting to go into the restroom with my girls she has the audacity to sense or valid questions from voters what else is being hidden from the public thank you jacob whitler 3188 iris court oh jared sorry president oregano members of the board apparently i need to apologize for my poor penmanship i'm sorry for that jared cutler 38 3180 ibis court couple things i'd just like to say for a few minutes um you

know i have never been on the women's lacrosse team but i know michelle sorensen and jolene towers very very well i have the utmost respect for them i've spent hours and hours with them in social situations i've worshiped with them they are remarkable individuals and i like to express my support i would also like to take just a moment and thank you for your covet policies you have done much to keep my family and my children safe you know right now we're still at about 4 000 cases every day that's that's what the numbers are telling us about 80 deaths every day and that's you know you can say well how many school children well you know it spreads from school children to other members of families i applaud your coveted precautions and i thank

you for them finally the issue of a dei diversity equity and inclusion plan has been raised at this meeting i firmly firmly believe we do need such a plan and there are two reasons for that number one we have had instances of racist behavior in the school district which tells me that we probably need to do some education teaching our children about the importance of respecting people who don't look like them or maybe don't believe the same things they believe those things have happened and we probably need to make sure that our students are educated on the importance of acceptance inclusion and respecting other people from other groups second the reason we need to teach them about these things is that they will go into a global marketplace as leonard m moore professor of history

and former vice president for diversity and community at the university of texas at austin has said my approach with a lot of my white students has been i don't care who you vote for i don't care about your political ideology but if you want to be competitive in a global job market you have to be culturally intelligent in america that starts with understanding the black experience i know some of you want to work on wall street what if your black your boss is a black woman who has a black lives matter sticker on her desk are you going to quit it's about getting them to understand the value in other people's perspectives whether or not a person believes in systemic racism our children need to be educated about what that concept is and they need

to understand the perspectives and experiences of people who do not look like them particularly in a school district that is predominantly white like beaver creek city schools is i would encourage this board to move forward with the diversity equity inclusion plan and to find ways to educate our students on the things they need to be able to do to be culturally competent in the world that they will enter when they graduate from our schools thank you very much for your time have a good evening casey harmon sorry move it anywhere you want hi my name is casey harmer i live at 84 ridgebrook trail um i would like to say i really agree with the previous speaker i have great appreciation for what you've done when it comes regards to the covet procedures that you've

put in place my daughter is actually a transplant recipient and she took part in the john hopkins study about how patients do after the covet 19 vaccination she went into the school year with having received both of her vaccinations but because of blood work we got we found out she did not develop any antibodies because of her immunosuppressive medication it made her eligible for a third booster and she is now developing antibodies as the study suggested would happen so we're really happy about that but unfortunately at the beginning of the school year at ferguson hall a lot of the kids had to get i'm sorry can you not hear me um a lot of the kids had to undergo um quarantining and a big problem came from that and that was the kids a lot

of them really fell behind now this is our what going into our third year of having to do this um and talking to my daughter and hearing what her and her friends had to say about this communicating with the teachers was a very very difficult um in finding out what assignments were due and i really think as beaver creek wants to make our students ready to move into the world of college and being responsible adults um i think that the high school level could do better of providing students with a layout of what their assignments are going to be coming up um i looked through all of my daughter's google classrooms and i couldn't find anything she says that she knows that there's a one teacher that does that and the health teacher um and

this goes into children's ability to plan we have students that are athletes my daughter participates in a non-beaver creek sport that she does six days a week and travels for com for the competitions per se and it's you know planning school work around that is very difficult when you don't know that you're going to have an assignment coming up and i feel it puts out our kids at a disadvantage and then finally with that as we were ending this last quarter i worked with her to by looking at her progress book and seeing and that's the only way i could tell what assignments were missing for her was going into her progress book and saying you have a zero for this this says missing this is excused and i wanted her to communicate with her

teachers there is a problem though as a parent that wants to be proactive and help their child i cannot have a three-way email conversation with my child her and her teachers because of how grow creek sets its email up she can't email me i can't email her and so there can't be that whole conversation and there just becomes a lot of well my teacher said this this is the email i have to ask to see her emails and i would really like the board of education to talk to whoever and i t you know and to maybe reconsider that policy to some degree all right thank you and that concludes our public speaks we're gonna take a three-minute break [Music] so [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] so [Music] with the um questions

and comments mrs grafts signed the wrong sheet so we're going to allow her to speak so mrs graff i thought i'd look carefully members of the board members of the audience carol graf 1442 devoe drive i have lived in beaver creek for over 55 years longer than most of the people here are alive my four children graduated from beavercreek high school i taught for a time at the high school i have served this community for over 50 years as a volunteer and or an elected official this is the biggest crisis dividing our community and our schools that i have experienced unless there has been a change in the law in the last four years i believe that one of the prime directives of an elected official in the state of ohio is to protect the

health safety and welfare of those to be served i want to thank each of you members of the board of education for putting the best interests of those in your hands faculty staff and children in beavercreek city school system by mandating the masks for all those while in our buildings trying to keep everyone in our schools protected and keeping the schools open for the best learning environments you can provide during an epidemic is a very very difficult balancing act you have done very well all the many citizens both young and old with whom i have been in contact applaud you for helping to protect those under your wings as well as the health of the seniors and members of the community who encounter those who attend or work in the schools thank you for following

the guidelines of the greene county health department the ohio department of health and the cdc we should each do our part to keep others safe thank you for looking for the future and best interests of the people who live and work in beavercreek and we are now on two items for board discussion yes we have two items this evening uh for board discussion the first one i'm gonna slide i'm sorry i'm sorry yeah i did sorry because i thank you sorry about that okay i need approval of minutes sorry about that i need a motion a second prove wait a minute i didn't even get to it the minutes for the september 16th 2021 regular board me okay go go second any discussion please call the vote mr morrison yes miss hunt yes miss fergano

yes that's just stein yes mr taylor yes and now we're into item support discussion yes thank you we have two items the first item uh we need to present every year a proposed calendar to our board of education and to our community so tonight we're going to ask this will not be approved tonight we would look to bring this back at our november board meeting for approval but i'm going to ask mr man who's been working diligently on this topic there's a lot of facets to it so i'm going to turn over to mr man at this time to discuss the 22-23 school calendar very similar that we've had the past few years you'll notice that the first day of school starts august 15th and 16th we're still looking at continuing the staggered start that

has been a success for teachers or students for administrators transportation every department seems to communicate that they like to stagger start a good long-term student as well in terms of other items on their last day of school would be may 25th so around before june and we have two-week winter break and spring break is the last week of march those are very similar themes the past few years we'll be back next month and i also wanted to thank mr spearman who has he works along the calendar as well any questions thank you okay our next item i asked mr thompson to come up this is an item that uh we discussed with the board i believe back in august uh and this we this has been an item that we have been working very closely

with township on um and so tonight we're gonna ask the board for approval so i asked mr thompson just to give a quick snapshot of what this item is i wanted to kind of give you a refresher of what it is and highlight some of the adjustments that we've made since august through our conversations so this is an agreement between beaver creek schools and the developer kerwin pink llc and as mr aunt also said we collaborated very closely with beaver creek township as we work through this to make sure we fully understand locations and requirements of proposed new roadways that are going in that area so high points it is um an agreement that is going to allow emergency vehicle access through our property at koi and trabine to the site just east that is

known as ashbury park are going to be known as ashbury park if you look in your board book page 43 is the start of this agreement and um the very last page of that exhibit g on page 61 shows kind of where where it is going to go so again ashbury park is a parcel of bluegrass crossing at stonehill village which is that larger master planned area in the township it's going to be developed into a nursing home this will not be the primary entrance it's going to be used for secondary emergency ingress and egress and it is a temporary use until roads are developed further the developer will install at their cost a 22 foot wide path that is going to connect to our path at coin trayvine the path will be 10 foot

wide paved and then 6 foot on each side will be grass pavers it is in a new location from the conversation we had in august and if you look at that exhibit g you can see where it's a little bit different with this new location we won't have to remove any of it we won't have any on our property that's going to need to be moved and we can use more of what's put down initially to tie into future paths that are going in there so again working with the township and we're able to better locate it for future development so exhibit d shows a lot of that which would be on page 54 in your board book and you can see it runs across the southern edge of the ashbury park property line and

it will tie into overbrook boulevard which has not yet been constructed but once that's constructed there will be bike paths and walkways that go along it and they will also tie into the property in stonehill village above north of it there so it will come down azure pacer sham and it also run on overbrook boulevard once over brook boulevard and amersham are constructed this easement would go away so we would no longer have the agreement the agreement is only good until they get secondary access because they have to have secondary access for emergency vehicles approval tonight which is again is later on the agenda would allow these two projects to move forward so any questions at all do we uh supply no removable maintenance on our partners yes we yeah we will work together with

them on that um and we will have the ability to put temporary bollards up to limit traffic through there but we will do the snow removal until the easement is up so that section of it we will do i will say one of the pieces i think that you know i want to commend greg on all the work he's done on this uh you know you're dealing with lawyers on all sides and greg's been dealing a lot with that and i think the exciting thing for us is if you live in that area um we're going to have some connectivity to trayvon and coy that we've never had before if we have students if cole wants his son cole wants to run over to traybinder colt or coy he has to run through fields to

get there so this will actually connect not only the neighborhood there but as we know there's going to be connectivity through the other side of the road as well so this is a great thing for us one of the biggest pieces that we look at is how do we connect our our neighborhoods to our schools we want kids to have that access so this is really a step in the right direction to do that so we're thankful for not only the township being very supportive of this but also the developer looking at this as a positive for our kids in the future there any long range plans to open this up for traffic for a regular basis um for vehicle vehicular traffic no it will be a strictly a walkway bikeway okay thanks thank you

if you want to finance your reports any emotion is second to approve the september 2021 financial reports and the september 2021 donated items second any discussion i just want to report out that we are in alignment with our five-year forecast which we do update every may and november so next month you will be getting an update on the five-year forecast and every month then we monitor our spending to make sure we are in alignment with that forecast so we are in good shape thank you thank you call the vote please mr stein yes miss hunt yes mr morrison yes miss fergando yes mr taylor yes we're on to new business we need a motion and second to approve the following the employment salary changes leaves of absence and terminations approval of the mcesc montgomery county

esc contract approve of easement and maintenance agreement with ashbury park nursing home need a motion in a second it's all moving second any discussion hey please call the vote mr taylor yes mr stein yes miss hat yes mr morrison yes ms regando yes and we're into announcements november 2nd is election day november 18th board of education meeting at 6 30 november 22nd to the 26th there is no school thanksgiving break and november 25th and 26th all offices are closed we're to board member member comments mr stein thank you mr sergano um i just want to say it's great that school spotlight has returned i hope we can keep that going because it was it was amazing to hear from the students directly um i i've said before i felt disconnected with the schools because of

covid and so having them come into the meetings is certainly um a pot a positive experience for me and i'm sure it is for all of us to actually hear from them uh to keep that connection with them so thank you very very much for for uh bringing that back and i hope it continues um i also want to point out that uh this week is national school bus safety week um and that just want to say really appreciate all the bus drivers that are uh that we have that are making sure that our students are getting to and from school in a safe manner we know they're very dedicated and it's a i i i told some of you before i would be a nervous wreck in that position so i i feel for

them that that they have a very um um important job that they do when they do it well and so much appreciation goes out to them for keeping her kids safe and it's also national principles month so i want to thank all of our principals we have a great um cadre of principals in the district that lead our schools very well and do an amazing job i've i really enjoyed the conversations that i've had with them over the last couple years and just really appreciate that we have them here in viewer creek mr taylor thank you mr ghana um so let's start off with the career center okay um the hot ticket is november 4th at the career center open house show up it's a it's really a gym in our county um to see

this to see the career center in the first place and then understand the types of work that they do there with the different different groups of kids that's amazing the last board meeting we had a demonstration by the drone program and uh the technicality of that program just amazes me i don't know how they do it flying drones up through they have a very nice large space to practice in and flying drums through hula hoops placed around the room great precision it's amazing um safety patrol presentation brought back memories of just uh how much emphasis on responsibility that's placed on the kids that they are in charge of other kids lives really and to be helpers to get kids from one place to another safely and make them feel comfortable with uh oftentimes the situation

i mean years ago shaw first day of school i wish we had had safety patrol kindergarten let out and usually they disappear into the buses and pretty soon a little kid was wandering around he was crying he said what what's the story because he's scared of me but uh i walked up to him i said how can i help you he's like well my teacher told me that i was on the red buses but they're all yellow so it put a paper of different colors in there and i guess somehow the message got disconnected very very funny very heartbreaking actually in a lot of ways to get us a peek into how messages are received by people of different types uh the spokes people for the lacrosse team you see they feel very strongly about

their kids and the values that sports bring to our students and it's not just excelling in the sport it's often the messages that sports teach kids responsibility teamwork among many other lessons so it's amazing to see parents fighting for um what they feel is an attack on that on their program and um lastly i have a hundred other things but we'll just go back with the uh with the other speakers as well tonight uh we get your passion of what you're saying and not many people disagree that nascar are an issue that we all hate fans i hate sitting here right now with this man but safety is paramount as this uh mrs graf said in her speech that the paramount issue of public officials is the safety of our kids if there is not

safety and if kids don't feel safe coming to school then there is no learning that's classic maslow hierarchy when you're when you are at the point of feeling unsafe and your basic needs aren't met on that level and everything above that makes it makes it pretty tough so with that okay next um i'm glad to see so many people here speaking tonight i enjoyed that we had varied topics tonight um i wanted to address a couple of things that were mentioned regarding the mass policy um i we as a board we receive a week a bi-weekly update for mr madden regarding cases of covid in our school as well as quarantines those numbers looked a lot better this week which was encouraging to me i did email mr madden and ask him to give me

some information regarding local districts what other people are doing what are their cases looking like what is you know what's the impact of if they have changed their policy what's that impact so that is something i have asked for so that we can discuss that as a board i think that's something that we need to start discussing is getting back to normal doesn't mean my particular view will be taken but i certainly want to make sure that we're getting the information and starting to have that discussion more often so i realize that's not a vote that people have asked for um but one thing i will say about myself is that i don't do anything for show and i'm not going to do something to to to buy a vote so i am who i

am and i'm always going to be as honest as i possibly can and i promise you that i'm advocating for those things um and if there are other specific questions i'm more than happy to answer those on a one-on-one basis but tonight we have a couple of our teams that are doing post-season play soccer women's soccer is playing i believe right now my daughter's on the volleyball team they're playing bell brook right now for the quarterfinals in the district uh so wishing them well and then i believe our boys soccer team plays on saturday again denny's probably going to cover a lot of this in his report sorry he and i both do athletics so we can kind of double up but we have a lot of kids doing some great things the postseason plays

i just wish all of our athletes well and thank our coaches for all they're doing to pour into our kids and uh that's all i have mr morrison you did steal my thoughts i'm sorry okay boasting on the athletic costume so thank you for that i do want to with the fall season winding down i want to congratulate all of our young people that are participating in co-curricular and extracurricular activities our athletes our marching band members and all of our coaches all of our advisors the time commitment that they put in no one realizes the time that they put in to make sure that the kids are able to participate and have successful programs so thank you for the dedication also i heard you say it's national school bus safety week that is again very

very important and i'm going to tell you something what a difficult job what a difficult task if there's anybody out there that's interested in driving a bus please let us know we can always use bus drivers and finally next week is read aloud week and what could be more important than reading to a child nothing as far as i'm concerned so okay i would like to thank um the teachers and the kids that put on the homecoming parade that takes a lot of work and time they had it so well organized it was just amazing so they need to get really they need to get credit for that and um i'd like to thank the district for bringing in chris singleton that was a great presentation where they had several teachers and come and tell

me how oppressed they were the speaker that was a great i went to the teacher session then i went to the session tonight for the community and it was really well i mean well attended and people really enjoyed it so it was great to bring that in and with that i'm going to thank our bus drivers i mean as a teacher when those buses would pull up every day we would say oh my god these people are amazing and you know they love our kids you see them at christmas time i mean they're giving them goodies when they get on the bus i mean i've watched my neighbor and i was behind a bus one day driving home and i was buying the bus bus stop let this get out kid must be like first

grader swinging the jacket dragging it on the grass but the bus driver did not move until he watched that kid compare it open the house door and let him in and i was really impressed i mean wave to the kid kids waved him parents waving so we are bus drivers of great banks and with that i need a motion and second to take us into executive session for the purpose of the appointment employment dismissal discipline promotion demotion or compensation public employees policy one two one two two g one court action one two one two two g3 pending and imminent litigation and security arrangements one two one two two g6 second yes mr stein yes mr morrison yes mr gano yes mr taylor yes mission carries
