Well, I'd like to introduce to you all two very special young people. U a lot of times my day gets spent with a lot of complaints and a lot of issues and phone calls and all

004that stuff. So when I get out into the hallways and to talk to the kids, I I've really gotten to know a lot of them. And I was thinking about about Cohen the other day, like Cohen's got so many college credits and has been on such a different schedule that I haven't been able to spend a lot of time with him. But this is going Hickswan. He will be going to the University of Cincinnati to study electrical engineering. >> Wow. Um I'm gonna let you talk for one second. We see that one is that for our trainer or >> um I'll have to get that. I don't know the answer to that. I'll get that for you. We had seven donations.

007So that's great. >> Yeah, it's incredible. >> Thank you all. Um, any other comments or questions? >> Roll up, please. >> Mrs. Miller, >> yes. >> Mr. M. >> Yes. >> Dr. Rob. >> Yes. >> Mr. Sh. >> Yes. >> Mr. Gibson. >> Yes. >> Item number 10 deals with some personnel items. >> Mr. Good evening. >> Good evening. >> The superintendent recommends that the board approve the following personnel items 10 A through 10F. >> Any comments? >> Looking at the list, you see that we are we've hired our sixth teacher um for next year. Um that that's moving well. We won't be hiring a lot of teachers this year, but few that we have. We're excited to bring those teachers to West Carolton and wanted to acknowledge uh one of our last teachers to

008decide to retire his career that he has spent and many lives. >> He sure has >> Mr. >> Yes. Mr. Thompson. >> Yes. >> Mr. Sh. >> Yes. >> Mr. Gibson. >> Yes. >> Mr. Noah. >> Yes. >> And item number 11. Mr. >> Superintendent recommends that the board approve the following personnel items 11 A through 11B. >> Second. >> Any comments orders? uh summer school preparing for summer school. Uh our administrators >> now we're getting all ready for summer right around the corner. >> Yes. >> All right. So call please. >> Dr. Robinson Thompson. >> Yes. >> Mr. Sher. >> Yes. >> Mr. Gibson. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Miller. >> Yes. >> M. Yes. Item number 12 is our 202728 school calendar. >> So I'd like to recommend that the board adopt as presented

009the 2027 2028 school calendar. >> So move >> second comments. I met with our committee as they do every year. The union takes it for a vote and they send back the copy of we'll get it posted to our website shortly. Roll call, please. >> Mrs. Sher, >> yes. >> Mrs. Gibson, >> yes. >> Mrs. Miller, >> yes. >> Mr. M. >> Yes. >> Dr. Robson. >> Yes. >> Item number 13, deal with another portion of our capital improvement project. Mr. >> Yeah, thank you. Um, I'd ask the board of education approve as presented resolution for GMP LFO 1.9. SH construction company for the performing arts 400's package for the LFO portion of the capital improvements project. >> So those second >> can you give us a little rundown of what's being kept and what's

010>> Yes. On the performing arts side of things, um we're taking down the high school from about the home room, everything north heading up through the breezeway into the 400s. And that will become a practice field for band and athletics. And then we're also taking down the cafeteria as part of the project. We're saving the auditorium, the music rooms, and also the um office area, and the athletic area there with both locker rooms and both gyms and the weight room and wrestling room. Um in the 400s, we are there's not really we're not altering the building at all from the outside, but we are transforming it to move the print shop down. We're bringing technology over from Frank Nicholas, and they'll have their space inside of it. Um, we're upgrading some of the HVAC and

011electrical in that building to accommodate that. Um, so moving the transportation office across the hallway to what is now the current rent shop to finally give them some room. That building, their office now is made for one person. We have three working out of it now. So, we're moving them across the hallway. We're also moving the driver's break room and meeting room over across the hallway by the office to so that way they're out of the garage currently. Now, to get into the transportation office or for the drivers to get in to get their keys, they have to walk through the bus garage where all the buses and mechanics are working. We really want to try to avoid that for safety reasons. So, it'll be a nice upgrade. It'll be minimal, but it will provide

012more space and more flexibility for future expansion that this is an expansion. This is the next part. This is the last part of everything that we're doing. And if you've noticed, we're not where we normally are. We are in the new high school part. And that's the reason why we have to yell is because we don't have our microphones here. Um and but it is absolutely beautiful. Everybody say wonderful job. So I believe we are in good hands with this next section of program and over here that will all be coming down and I believe June 16th is when things will start rolling. Correct. >> It we're telling we're hoping to have staff out of these buildings no later than June 10th >> and so we can hand the keys over and begin this project

013because we want to move as quick as possible so we can start open the spaces back up for summer. >> Okay. All right. Well, with that second, please move >> and roll. >> Mrs. Gibson. >> Yes. Mr. Miller. >> Yes. >> Mr. Dr. Austin. >> Yes. >> Mr. Shock. >> Yes. >> Okay. Uh, item number 14 deals with some Calamity Day. >> I need a motion and a second that the board approved as presented the following resolution. Adopting a plan for alternative makeup of calamity days online learning days. >> So moved. >> Second. Um we have the opportunity to have online learning days in Lizard bags. So we do this every year. Okay. Any questions on this roll call please? >> Mrs. Miller. >> Yes. >> Mr. Money. >> Yes. >> Dr. Rob Thompson. >>

014Yes. >> Mr. Ch. >> Yes. >> Mr. Gibson. >> Yes. >> All right. Now it's time for comments and reports and we'll start with our student reps over there or trio and uh so you can yell >> vocalize over there so we can hear you. >> Um I don't have a whole lot. Um senior stuff is or senior stuff is coming up. Senior is wrapping up. I think as of today was marks two weeks left of class for seniors. Senior signing day was last Friday. There were some seniors upset about it being in the new gym, but it all went well and I think that it worked out just fine. And then um the only other comment I have is they're also a lot of kids that are upset about their senior parking spot. But

015other than that, >> it's your girl. >> But other than that, >> I don't have much, but the school year is ending and so testing is over finally. And that's thanks to the teachers and May 16th because I miss school. And the reason I last name is because student council held a fundraiser and it was fresh a sophomore team, a junior team, a senior team, and the volleyball team. The girls volleyball team ended up winning and the sophom Other than that, um we had student council elections today for the next school year tomorrow. Um we had prom last weekend very nice. Um and there was a middle school farewell last weekend that went really nice. Um me and my family went and just seeing everybody I didn't get to go and really there's not a

016whole lot going on there. We got some organizations um today when there was some hygiene products and we use those. So that's good. We did get a bunch of donations from the Y but it was a lot of already had um like personal hygiene products, shampoo, stuff like that. So um we passed most of those on to Judy Brooks and she's going to use them for month. >> Great partnerships. >> Great. Great. The uh the student rep the round table that we're at, they're going to be getting together in June. So I'll give you the dating specifics on that. We're going to do a a first time ever. Uh we're going to get everybody together, all the uh outgoing seniors and the new people, which tonight we're going to be reading through the applications and

017deciding what we're going to who we're going to interview next week. So to fill now, we've got tall shoes or boots over here to fill. So, it's it'll be a hard decision, I'm sure. >> Very hard. >> Next time. >> Okay. >> I have a school report. >> Go ahead. >> So, I was talking with Heather Davis, which is she's the principal at the greatest school in this district, which is the intermediate school, and I uh I was talking to her and I mentioned, hey, if you could send me some little updates that you have, and uh she did. So, she sent me a good amount here, so I'm going to try to uh make it quick. She uh she really wanted to make it a point that she wanted to make it a point

018to thank the amazing group of teachers, custodians, secretaries, and the related staff who make up our school community. Um she personally asked for a shout out for them. Um she said they truly work hard to make a difference. And then she also was talking about how and I'm sure many of you guys know the students completed the uh testing the OCD test and they have 100% participation in the ELA. However, they're working on the math and science currently at I think the end of the week. Yeah. Make so that'll be happening tomorrow. And then they have the spring already um testing and uh they're going to review that. And then they also uh she was also talking about uh the students got a uh will have a welldeserved break next coming weeks and they're going

019to have their kickoff or kickball tournament uh which seems pretty cool because they go against the Marine Police and Fire Department which is uh pretty exciting and then of course they got launched. So of course I do my best to be here. Um, and then of course I celebrate some of the end of the year stuff. Trips, a trip to Dairy Dream, there would be skating, music, bowling out, alleys, visits to Starbase and Web, which I do not know what those were. I think Starbase and Web, I don't know, but if you guys know, I'm sure they're reciting because I don't know what it is. They're going to have field day, a yearbook signing, a clapout ceremony for the sixth grade. Um, so they have all sorts of amazing things planned. So the big thing

020that I wanted to mention was their uh especially for next year they're looking for community partners to support the one school one book initiative kick off the school year. Um, this last or this year? Last year. >> It was this year. >> This year? >> Yeah. Yeah. I don't know how you would say that. during this school year. >> Yeah, technically it was last year though if you talk about calendar. Uh we did wonder >> and we got to read a chapter of wonder which uh I had to read twice because mine was muted which was great for it. >> Yeah. So >> there was a reason for this. >> Yeah. So, but other than that, they intermediate school. It seems like they're doing a great job. Of course, last week I had a little

021bit of a hiccup with electricity, but things went good. So, I'm happy everything worked out and uh yeah, it's been good. So, yeah, fantastic. >> All right. Anybody else have any comments? Thank you. Um, first of all, it's staff appreciation week. So, I would like to thank all of my staff that is here. Um, as well as our student considering class staff, um, my teachers, my classified staff, um, bus drivers, everybody that does everything that we do every day to help our kids and I appreciate all of you. Um, and I will have a special day break on Friday coming around. And I also wanted to mention that we have spaces still open in our kindergarten jump start and call our ACC to see if you meet the requirements for entry and that starts June

0221st and we have about 40ish spaces still open. >> What is that, Dr. >> Um, we received a grant to allow students who are going into kindergarten to learn how to become a student. So we 74 spots and we have about half of them full. So we provide breakfast lunch and they learn how to be kindergarteners >> and that how long is that June >> 1st through the 26 Monday through Friday's the whole focus is on kindergarten readiness and really having a positive experience. Um so like students will be able to learn routines, procedures, develop relationships. We're going to implement um morning meetings like responsive classroom. Um we're also working on organizing some field trips as well as having experiences come to the school building. We want it to be really positive so that when

023students come >> as parents. I was going to say that we um that have if you registered your child for kindergarten. Um there are certain eligibility requirements in order to attend. So just if you're interested, call the school and they can let you know if your child is eligible and then we get them signed up spring June. It's going to be a great program. >> I love that. I love that. >> I'm really excited. I was the principal was That's great. All the teachers requesting that. >> Okay. We are requiring that you fully register your child for kindergarten first. So we in order to attend that's the first stepister for kindergarten and then um our Amber at the desk is sharing information. Okay. Mr. Sloan, anything this evening? >> Just repeating Mr. Barry regarding Doug

024Stevens. Um, congratulations and best wishes to him. Uh, really, really, really good teacher, even better guy. Um, wish him the best. Congratulations to valatoran and another big thank you to uh shook construction uh for a beautiful building here. Um just great people to work with especially Lauren. >> Wow. >> Not sure how long it took her to paint that but she can tell us today. Great job. >> All right. Uh we don't have any comments from our education association or classified employees association. So we'll go to central office staff start anything this evening. >> Um yeah I'm going to go back in a couple weeks. Um I attended Hadestown on Saturday night. Our students was amazing from the band, the singing, the acting, the choreography. I mean, I was just so impressed with our kids

025for that play. Um, I told Mr. Coleman, I said, I've been seeing they come to school plays now for over 30 years, and I think that this is going to rank as one of my favorites when it comes to it. I have like Susie Cole, Wizard of Oz were always my top two, but I think Hades Town is kind of pushed into like a real close, real close right there with those top three. They like switch every now and then that. So, very impressive. Um, the artfest I was not able to attend. I was out of town last Friday, so I cheated since I own keys to all the buildings. And I came in Thursday night and had a private showing the artfest and was very impressed. We're all in town with all of our

026students through the artfest. Um, I also cheated in them from the artfest. We came over to see the setup for the uh senior signing day, which wow, what what an event they held in the gymnasium out there. the way they had it decorated and set up. It was just pretty awesome to see the gym set up the way they had it. So, I was impressed. A lot happened in two weeks there and no disappointments all around. I do want to thank the shook team also that are here. Um, yes, we're sitting in a very, very beautiful building. Um, they have been a pleasure to work with for the last seven years. Um, I can't tell you how much I depend on them. um how open they are, how they listen, how they react. Um I

027can button dial them on Sunday and they pick up their phones. So So it's a great group of people. Um and I can't say enough for them. Um you can tell how much they care by looking at the quality that you've seen in this building today. And sometimes you don't get those people that care. These guys do. And it really shows with their workmanship. So I want to thank them for everything they've done. So >> yes. Yes. Thank you very much. >> All right, just to echo everything Jack said, congrats to everyone who was in the musical as well as the art show, John such an amazing job. Also, thank you. This building is absolutely amazing. I know Jack's put a lot of work in it, but um it's a gorgeous building and I can't

028wait to start the year next year in a new building. And then also I we're going to miss Doug. I I worked with Doug for several years at Chanel. You know, he was he's just amazing and I wish him the best. >> Mr. Barry, anything this evening? Congratulations to the validictorian Cohen and saludiatorans. I guess Jackson my first experience with shook was in 2008 was my first year as a principal and I moved into a brand new building a huge check massive check the size of the table. Um yeah, good good guys and consistent and we'll have buildings for next century that shows up in the area. It's good stuff. Um Artfest Artfest uh I would say from the beginning until now. I think each year gets better if he's going to have a difficult

029time doing himself or or you know actually it's a collaborative effort but uh I will give credit to Mr. is pushed even further. So, good job. >> Thank you. Okay, now to our general comments section from the public and I'm going to remind everyone individual participants will be limited to a maximum of five each during the 45 period that we have and any exception will to policy will be granted entirely with the discretion of the board. So there will be a five minute timer and I have one person that wants to address the board um and it's Tina if you would like to come up and announce your name and address and then I will start. My name is school. Um, I'm here regarding the district's handling of a serious student safety threat involving my

030son. My son received a message that included an image of a firearm in the statement, "I don't care about my life. You are going to die today." This was a direct target threat from another student in the district. Although the message was sent outside of school hours, it was reported that Monday to school. At that point, I felt it became a school safety matter because it was involving two students or multiple students. Initially, the situation was characterized as an inappropriate language and later minimized as not being a credible threat because the image was sourced from Pinterest that does not address the explicit nature of the threat. the impact. A safety plan was implemented, but only after I requested it and about a week after the report. Additionally, a formal investigation for harassment and bullying was

031initiated after I also requested. While I appreciate the action was eventually taken, these steps were not proactive. We did just receive the investigation for the harassment and bullying today. Um, I just felt like there needs to be more communication because our family along with the other students families was left without clarity or confidence that the situation had been fully addressed. Additionally, during the process when we found out exactly that it was not just inappropriate language that was being used, my husband did come to the school and while advocating for our child, he did feel like it wasn't being properly taken and he did use some inappropriate language and now is issued a no trespass order. the district and the property. I'm asking the board to review both the handling of this threat and the decision

032to issue that order. I also directly ask what specific steps will you take to ensure that direct threats are addressed immediately, investigations are initiated without parent request and families receive timely communication about outcomes. >> Thank you. Um, so I was unable to go to the artfest or the spring musical because I was out of town on business. Um, but I have heard great things about both of them. Um, so congratulations to those students. Um, I I also want that we received an email about uh 2026 Congressional Art Awards. We had two students, Haley Krooks and I hope I don't butcher the name, Basil Bubber. Um, so congratulations to them. So there's a lot of art things happening. Um, want to wish uh Mrs. Longworth a happy birthday. Today is her 40th birthday. She put it

033out there, not me. Just saying. Um and um I noticed and this is a question first. So I noticed there's flags or I don't know where we're at on Alex Bell. >> Did we do those flags? Does the city did those? So, when we received our new lovely city manager, who I love working with, um, we talked together about having schools and that's something the city picked up for us in your budget and they out here on central there's the high school flags and they will take care of putting them up and down. They also have Carolton city flags and um, they put in their budget where they will put them up and down and Perfect. >> So, I I did see the new flats um and I was very very very grateful and thankful

034that we had West Carolton colors >> um as opposed to other things in the city, but I did notice that we had go Pirates. Yay for us. Um the the school is amazing. It is huge. It is overwhelming. I'll be lucky to find the door to get out because I am directionally challenged. Uh you're going to help me out with that one. Get um and the only thing only complaint I have is I've been sitting in a high chair this entire seat with my legs and I noticed that I got at least one other person over here chair. So, um I love this building, not so much this chair. Hey, that's all we got. >> All right. >> Does anybody else swing it? >> Yes, I've been swinging. Yeah, I like it. I don't mind.

035I can swing. Yes. >> Can you? >> Oh, come on. >> It's okay. >> Jeez. >> I would swing, sister. >> All right. First of all, I'd like to thank all of our staff with since it is staff appreciation time. our st, all the staff, the administration, bus drivers, everybody that does so much for our school district. We appreciate all you do and I know how hard you all work. Um, congratulations to our validatorans, oh my GTA, how amazing. Um, shook construction. You guys have been amazing from the beginning. I told Jack was when we were walking around, I can remember when we started the bond committee and we brought in these little pictures, picture blocks we were talking about and um just to see it all come live. It's just been so amazing. Thank

036you for all you've all done. Um Hades Town. Oh my gosh. We're a little partial one of our little actresses over there, but it was a great show. We enjoyed it so much. My husband and I went. It was great. Um and I we don't say this enough. Thanks to they come to all these board meetings and and video all these. So, we appreciate all you do for that. >> Y >> they bow. Welcome to especially the officials. >> Yeah. And Doug Stevens. Oh my goodness. My son had him all through elementary school and he was an amazing teacher. So, that is a huge loss to the district. >> I know. I'm so happy for him. But that was the very um congratulations to Jack on his award that he received. I think we were

037at this lasting otherwise we would have come for that but anyway I know >> all right >> I was afraid to say artfest sorry artfest was amazing we had the honor of judging how hard was that because the the projects I mean we went back and forth and back and forth we were told we had to give we we were told we had to give three prizes and I begged for four mentions to go with it. So, we ended up with seven weeks, but that was even hard. So, >> I told him we had to cheat. We had to at least do that. But they gave the winners these amazing art sets and they were really nice. So, that was that was very nice. And I also wanted to mention um the softball team. Um

038they did a tribute to Joe Hatcher, which was um Doug Hatcher was the softball coach for 20ome years, right? and his staff announced at the games um and he made all the games fun. Don't you cry, Michaela. And um the softball teams uh had a bench that they and it's got his name on it and they all called him Grandpa Joe. And um it says that on the bench. The minute they took the the cover off, Janice Hatcher walked over, touched it, had tears, kissed the bed. Um, and the family was all there and they told a wonderful story about the bee that he always told and we all wore bee little pens. Um, I I sent pictures to Janine and I Amanda Henderson wrote a wonderful speech. I would love to see that. Um,

039if we can do that because that was very touching. >> I think I don't have a copy of it. So, Amanda, she had it. >> Okay. Um, but I sent Jimmy I'll send you the pictures that we took to that day. So anyway, and I'm sure a little bit more than I do. So, um, shout out to Patrick. So, sorry. >> I'm just I Thompson, you're up. >> Yes. Well, um, first of all, being an artist, the past two weeks have been lovely for me. I loved Hades Town. Of course, I paid extra and I was on stage for the closing show. Um, it was great. Uh, Mr. Coleman, um, I think as an educator, as a teacher, when you see the love and the passion, like they had a special closing that night and

040they couldn't even finish singing because they just were crying. And I was like, "Oh my god, I remember those days of closing night shows." That's why I went the last slide on purpose because closing night if your performer is the night that Yeah, it was just great. So, great job, Haley. You know, again, I love her charact love the character. Um, that was really great. Artfest, I'm saying the art thing. Artfest was great. Um, last year was my first year going and I'll be honest, I help I volunteered to help set up the day before and it was inside and I was nervous. Be honest. I was nervous. I was like, how in the world is that going to happen? Like the inside gym when last year it was spread out, but it actually surprisingly

041worked because I know it's a lot of people that were there and so that was really great. It was great judging. >> Yeah. And several mentioned they liked it better the way it was set up this year. >> Yeah. It was like Yeah. So yeah. So I I you know defined I'm with you Mr. Barry about seeing what it's going to look like the next year because the past two years I was saying have been amazing. Um I first time coming inside this building was two weeks ago. If you think it was two weeks ago, I got to tell you. And um I'm so glad you were in my favorite room, the library. It's my absolute favorite space. This mural is just amazing. Um I would be here all day every day if I was

042a teacher for sure. And if I was a scholar as well. And my second favorite place in this building is the courtyard. And then the third space home because I took home and it reminds me of home classes back in 1900. It looks the same in terms of the layout. I love it. So, thank you Shook. Um, the building is beautiful. Um, so it's a great space and I would love to live in a brand new space like this as a teacher as a kid. So, thank you so much. Did not know about staff appreciation week, but as a former teacher, I knew that this is National Teacher Appreciation Week. So, I want to give a special shout out to all of our teachers um and pair professionals that are um in our buildings. Thank

043you for your work. Thank you for those late nights. Thank you for the lesson plans. Thank you for all that you do for our scholars that is known and unknown. Thank you so much for all the teachers for teacher appreciation week. Um kindergarteners and readiness didn't know about that jump start. I'm really excited about that. I think it's wonderful. Thank you so much for doing that because it's a very hard transition um for those little people as they get ready to go to kindergarten. So that's really great. Really excited about the jump start. I'm gonna try to come and sneak by if I can. I would love to come and check that out. And um lastly, I did not catch your name, but I wanted to thank you as a parent coming um and sharing

044your thoughts tonight. So I wanted to make sure that was also said. So thank you so much for sharing your perspective. Thank you. That's it. Okay, Mr. Mundy. >> Okay, so I know um I do this a lot where everyone kind of says everything and I'm going to say exactly the same thing because I have to check it off my list. I have no choice. >> You just have to say ditto. >> I I can't do it. I I have more to say, you know, like I can add I can add. So I want to start with this. So >> So you adding >> So I'm sure you guys remember this. It's funny because I have a photo when Wow. Wait a minute. This was I don't even know what building was at, but it

045was with you and you guys when I started on school board you guys gave me the tour of was it easy? Was it? >> And I and I still absolutely love that photo. That was one of my favorite photos. But one of my favorite things is this hat. This hat. I wear this more often than I probably should. Um, I wear hats at weird occasions. We'll get to it. But one thing back. Thank you. You're looking at me. But one thing about this, >> right, this is supposed to be the actual tightened up. >> Why you in the front? >> No, >> I don't need that part of my brain anyways, you know. And so there is a quote on this hat, funny enough, that I put on here and it has been seared off

046by the sun, but I think I can see it. It says, "There is nothing on this earth more to be prized than true friendship death by Thomas," which is really cool. But I just think it's so >> Aquinus. >> Yes, it's Aquinus. >> I don't know Tom very well. >> Me and Tom never got along. famous theologian. >> Oh, I don't think you can spell theologians, but uh I uh but I just want to say, you know, Chuck, you guys really have done an incredible job. And to just look through this and to see like like Andy was saying, I mean, we used to see photos of these things and now to see them come to life is it really is like a weirdest way a dream come true. That's what I was about to

047say. That's crazy. >> Yeah. I mean, it's uh it's wild to just think about how uh how you guys made that happen. So, really and then special shout out to Lauren. Okay. >> All right. No one thought that was funny. Um I will say though, the community giving that you guys have done with >> community partnerships and things that really it sets you apart from other places. And I want to give you guys a lot of credit for not only being amazing building these buildings, but for building our community. And I want to give you guys a lot of credit for that because you're much more than just a construction company. You're almost like a part of this community now for the amount of time and effort and money that you have donated to local

048community organizations and groups. Um you guys really set yourself apart >> and coming to us about it. >> And I'll be honest, when I was before I was on the board, I was education foundation and you guys us and ask us to be help. >> Yeah, >> I mean stuff like that aside. >> It does and it really is such a good part. So to all the schools listening of other places, I don't know. Sugar is great. >> Sugar is great. >> There we go. I got it. Get hooked with shook. >> That's something. >> Write that down. And uh I also wanted to mention uh to the people that's going to watch this on whatever YouTube or something uh that did they did it pan up good? >> No. Okay. Okay. >> Cuz I

049saw you guys were doing your best. >> But what's really cool about this room for those who are in here now and those who hopefully will come and this is true north >> and there may have been some issues and we fixed it when it comes to the west southwest and other things but um Yeah, that is true north. And uh it's just really cool to see how there's so many little details that you can look through this whole building and see little os to past uh schools like the bell and of course our famous pirate ship to even things like this where true. I mean, those attention to details is what sets our school apart from any other school because there's law schools that look alike, you know, and things set out the state,

050but this is our community. This is our school. So, I wanted to thank you guys for that. Um, I did want to say a little bit about Artfest. Artfest was an absolute blast and I know we raised a lot of money um for scholarships through the baskets. I have spent a little bit too much on baskets and I just found out that there was another one I wanted. So that so if anyone likes country music, I have random signatures. I I got you. I got signatures of all these random people I do not know. >> Cool. >> So some Chipotle cards. Great. >> Um I really did want to everyone who came. This was bigger than ever like everyone's been saying. Um this was an abs I mean it was packed this huge gym absolutely

051packed and uh just to see the amount of kids and >> and you know what everyone was having such a good time. People are being who they are and uh it was just a really good time. You know >> there's people wearing funny hats. >> The only turned around every time I turn around. >> Yeah. every single there's a thing that change hats every single time. But um and then I also wanted to mention uh there is a the reason why we do this because not only the show to the community that makes kids happy right here in North Carolton but uh the they raise money for Pam Jacobs Creative Scholarship Fund and uh I don't know if anyone knows who Pam Jacobs is. I know many of us here um she was one of

052the best teachers I've met. Um, she was my teacher at one point and uh, she passed away. It hasn't been recent, I guess, but it's been still recent enough for it's going to get me emotional. I keep talking about it. So, um, to be able to honor her in five years, it has been five years. I'm getting old. That's crazy. But, >> just keep, uh, it's just crazy to see how, you know, people can still come together and do good things even in the future. and uh goodness. >> Oh, she did. So, there's nine kids that applied to that scholarship fund. And uh so we have we have a team of people that look through those scholarships and uh you know, our goal is to give kids the opportunity to pursue their passion of art

053even outside of these walls here and into their community. So, that's really interesting. I think about art. already talked about it, but Haley and Basil was recognized by Mike Turner for the congressional awards. It was at the Dane Art Institute. And what's really interesting about it is um Mr. G. Groer um he goes above and beyond for these kids, not just with the artfest, but even for things like this. It's it's a lot of effort to give and take these kids out of the school and to show them the world and have the world see them. He does an amazing job of doing that. And I also wanted to mention that uh he's trying to get rid of some of the murals and stuff. So if you guys are interested, talk to him or me.

054We'll hook you up with one murals. So um and then about might as well just talk about this dude. Emily Earl at the high school. Uh they're selling yearbooks. So to all those watching, all five of you. Um >> not just this year, all >> Yeah. All the years >> from all the years >> from history. I don't know how long the yearbooks go back. At least a few. Um >> a lot. A lot of >> years. >> 20 bucks each. >> Yeah. >> And then this year's yearbooks and I think like the two years past those are on sale. Those are like price. >> So I don't know if you guys still have the 2019 one. >> I guess myself buying another thing. I don't know why I just did that. You can call

055the You can call the office and they'll get you in contact with them when you're >> Yeah, they'll get you in contact. Definitely. Yeah, it's a it's a really good thing and we're trying to get rid of those ears because they're heavy and >> um and then thank you uh Lori for taking this one. uh city council and west Carolton school was Carolton WCSD. They kind of worked together on a project which was really really exciting because in the past we have had some rough waves on this pirate ship when it comes to our relationship because we were supposed to have really cool pillars that was made like pirate colors but they end up being West Carolton colors which is more like colors. >> West City colors. >> City colors. Yeah. Not >> and um

056so just for us to kind of have that partnership, I'm telling you when you guys leave this district here or this school, go out there, it's absolutely beautiful going driving down and seeing those flags. I mean, we do you feel that pride within you well up and uh it truly is beautiful just to just to see that and I love that partnership and I hope it continues. >> Um it's just really It's nice for us to be able to advertise ourselves and say this is who we are. We're pirates and we're proud of what we have, you know. And another thing I would like to mention is Mer Schools. I'm getting there. I'm getting closer. I'm getting there's all things happen these last year. Um Mer Schools, they have a billboard for their school. >>

057No, they have a billboard for their open enrollment. It's not the same. And they comprehensive high school and takes seven open enrollment students and he strategically places those >> that is very open there's one got mad at me put one up there >> I mean pretty interesting idea you know but uh I I think it's so cool that we're able to advertise who we are and be proud of who we are think that goes away. Few more things. Uh I know I was able to watch Secret Day and we had some wonderful speakers. One of them really got me emotional. She couldn't even finish her own speech and >> and graduate. >> I heard which I hope cuz she she messed me up. I was at work watching this on YouTube. >> First off, if

058you have a comment section, I was going to like say I'm here. that happened and second off I was getting really emotional while I was supposed to work. So to my boss watch this um but yeah those speeches were beautiful. I mean obviously the gym is beautiful. Thank you Chuck. And uh you mean it's just a really really special event. And then um last but not least I think well I did want to mention to you as well really thank you guys for coming here and speaking. I know it's not the thing and I know these situations can be hard. So, thank you for coming out and talking to us. And last is um the middle school farewell was very special and if you were not able to tour it, it was it was beautiful

059to see all the people that I knew, old principles, old teachers. Um I saw Mr. Riger, which he used to come to a lot of these. Um it was good seeing him and seeing everyone's doing okay. But um there's just something really cool about really saying the last goodbye to the place. And um there was even a tiny little middle school mockup. I don't know if you guys do that. I don't know if it's like a thing that construction people do, but it was like the the middle school was like sharp down into a cute little size. And it was so adorable looking at it cuz I felt like Godzilla, which was really neat. So, but it was just so cool to see friends and family and to like really connect with people and to

060like hear their stories about the middle school. I guess there's secret passageways and little hidden places that they were talking about. So, it was just so neat to like hear the stories and to connect with the people there and uh it was really nice and the popcorn was delicious. So, I'm excited. I'm excited for the high school. I know that's going to be really special, too. Hopefully they have a little tiny high school so I can do God's leg. And I think that's my time. >> Okay. So I'm going to bring it all the way around because everybody um first of all staff appreciation week. We really appreciate our staff. >> Yes. >> We have the best staff and now we have great buildings for our staff and it's going to help everybody from the

061buses because we gave them a bus garage that's going to be second to none and a you know break room that they've never had. Uh so that's going to be fun for them and all of our new schools are are wonderful. So that's a good thing. Um I wanted to congratulate Doug Stevens on his retirement. He has been a fixture around here for many many years and I wish him good luck and in his retirement and happy trails. Um the fourth quarter please guys finish strong. Um this impacts the fall sports and if you want to play a fall sport you have to have those grades up. They don't just erase the end of the year. So they carry with you over too. Um and all the fall sports. I know I had a tennis

062meeting here recently. Um so they're all gearing up and those physicals have to be in and I know how difficult it is with family vacation and yes mom has to schedule with a doctor who's already booked. So we need to we need to schedule these things ahead of time. Um I unfortunately was not able to be at Artfest or the musical. I was with six of my grandchildren. Um, but Artfest, I went a couple years ago and it was all the way through the cafeteria, down the hallway, both hallways. I mean, it was it was so um they he never disappoints. Um, I wanted to congratulate our validictorian and our saludiatoran. And when the validictorian said that he had to do a a minor in math, it it shocked me. My son went to the

063University of Florida and he got down there and he said, "I want to be a computer science computer engineering major." And they said, "And a minor minor in electrical." And he said, "No, I want to be." and they said, "Our program requires you to have a minor." >> And uh it was very interesting because when he graduated, he got his dream job, which was Walt Disney. And he asked them, he said, "There were a lot of kids that were putting in the same position." And they said, he said, "What was it that stood out over on mine?" And they said, "Because you got a minor electrical." So sometimes these colleges have a good idea of what you need to get that job. Um and it has come in handy with him. They said the uh

064the reason their reasoning was that he needed to not do the electrical but to understand the electrical and if he was out and about and and that explain. Yes. >> Um I wanted to uh thank you guys. Um, I have been on all of these meetings for seven years and you put up with me being here and being away and the zoom not working and then I have to be on the phone and I appreciate it so much. I have learned so much from you guys. Um, but your uh viewpoint and and just your vision of our schools was second to none. It was awesome. And we didn't know about building schools. So, whatever. And you guys were just, "Oh, we're going to do this and we're going to do this." And slowly but surely,

065it all started to take shape and what it was. And I couldn't be more proud of what it's going to be. And I'm sure that our district is going to absolutely love this school in particular. Uh, and we went into it with vision that this was the the big piece and it is I cannot tell you how many people that drive down 75 that see that illuminated >> that just were like oh my gosh that's so cool so >> beyond just our beyond >> yes >> so you have done what we wanted to have done >> it is the showpiece it is right there 75 and now everybody knows who >> I work it right They're like, "Oh, is that the school?" >> Yes. >> That is >> so we can't all of us cannot

066wait until August for that will be special. Um so the I'm going to we're going to have a work session us guys are on our student reps. Um but all of you don't need to say for that and we will conduct no business afterwards because we do not have an executive session. So >> recess >> we'll recess. Yes. And then we'll close and I'll I'll let you know. So this for part of the meeting.
