If your family needs assistance obtaining a coat, hat, or gloves for your child, contact out the uh your child's school office. We're always happy to help take care of that for you. So, mark your calendar. We have some events coming up. Pathways and Possibilities Career Tech Family Night is scheduled for February 11th at the high school. The program is targeted at students currently in grades 8 through 11 along with their parents. You can learn about the high school career tech pathways focusing on engineering, video broadcasting, news, graphic design, and animation as well as business and marketing and a scholarship opportunity from Sinclair Community College. The presentation will begin at 6:00, followed by

006a Q&A, as well as demonstrations at 6:30. There will be no school Friday, February 13th for QPT day and no school Monday, February 16th for President's Day. Remember to hug your favorite pirate on Saturday the 14th. Fact or fiction. I should say it in my my factor fiction voice. Not everything you read on social media is true. >> Fact. What? Did I hear a comment? So, not everything you read on social media is true. Believe it or not, people make things up. >> What? >> I know. It's crazy. >> Unfortunately, when it's something negative, it tends to spread really quickly. >> There are social media sites out there that seem to be devoted to negative news and have posts that are simply untrue. So, please, you read something, don't don't necessarily believe it's true. And

007why is that? Because there are lots of good things happening in West Carolton schools. And we post many of those stories on our social media. You can also find them on the news section of our website. You can feel free to share those stories. And we have a lot to be proud about in West Carolton. That includes our eighth grade girls basketball team. They're currently second place in the Miami Valley League and that would be in the middle school division. The boys varsity team, they're second place. They're actually, if you look at scores, they're tied, but I guess it goes down to percentages and you know, it's it's far more for my brain to comprehend. But hey, they're just a waway. That's what I keep thinking. Go out and support the boys. They're currently second

008place and that would be in their division of the Miami Valley League. You can also check out some stories on our web page. Business Professionals of America, they broke a record for the most wins in school history at their regional competition. I believe Mrs. Earl is she's sitting there with a big smile on her face. She is very proud of her students and she should be. Um 13 students won first place in either uh either individually or as part of a team. So I I keep thinking of them as the pirate 13. They're going to be advancing to the state competition and so we wish them luck. High school students competed in We the People at the Ohio State House and for the first time they received the Ohio Constitutional Scholar Award. um a lot

009of kids there there were a lot of awards given. So please go to our website, read that news item and they were also recognized by uh Senator Blackshere. So that was pretty pretty exciting too. I believe there's somebody in this room that was part of this competition. The choir and orchestra performed at the OMA OMA competition. Overall, they received 16 superior ratings, six excellent ratings, and one good rating. So, check out that story. Pirates are also showing kindness. Um, I think I I showed this picture very briefly at the last board meeting, but I didn't tell you about it. So, these second grade students brought in fabric from home that they cut into six in squares. They laid out the fabric to create the design that you see. Mrs. Fee sewed it together to make

010a quilt. They also created a made with kindness card using the same square design. And all of the students signed it. The card and quilt were delivered to an elementary student who was in the hospital. And as you know, I was very excited last school board meeting to meet Miss Charlotte, which is why I just totally overlooked telling you about this story. And there's Miss Charlotte. And I wanted to make sure she was recognized as a proud pirate for her kindness and willingness to help out at the board meeting. Another story you'll find on the website is about Miss Stacy, who received a staff spotlight yesterday. We delivered the news as a surprise to her while she was in the classroom. She was gonna try and make it tonight, but I don't think she she's

011going to make it. But we're still going to show you this story. So, let's take a minute and take you right into our preschool classroom. Sorry to interrupt, but we have something really special from the board of education that we want to present to somebody in this room. Is there somebody in this room that always help you guys out. >> Who do you think is always willing to help someone out? >> Lots of different people. Yes. But we have one person [laughter] on you. special >> and I wanted to give this award to Miss Turner because she's always an essential part of our team here at the ECC. She consistently goes above and beyond in your role as a preschool and providing meaningful support to our students in the classroom and helping ensure that their

012days are set up for success in here and you have true teamwork and you're committed to supporting all of our colleagues. Um you always whenever and wherever there is to be without hesitation, without being asked often times. You take great pride in your work. Every morning you come outside to greet our students and families with a smile on their face in the car line, no matter what the weather is that day and spend your afternoons moving throughout the building to help students get to their rides in the afternoon and running all over the building to do that like we do. for your reliability, positive, and genuine care for our school community on our students and our staff members. We're incredibly fortunate to have you. [laughter] >> So, that's another story that's on our website. There's

013more to it on the website. You'll you'll see that um if you read that, but she told me she loves being with the children and she gets to play every day. She also told me about her co-workers. They are all here for the same purpose and that is to make sure each child's day is the best. By the way, Miss Stacy is a pirate graduate. Her children attended West Carolton and her youngest is still here in the high school currently. So, in conclusion, if you'd like to spread stories about West Carolton schools, there are a lot of good stories, factual ones. There are a lot of good and true stories to share. I just shared with you tonight just a few. As always, be safe, be respectful, be responsible, be kind. Thank you. >> Thank

014you. It's a great story. All right, we are moving on to presentations and first up is our career technology program with Mrs. Emily Earl. Good evening. >> Hi. Good evening. All right. Most of you I know or have seen or talked to via email but never met in person. Um I have a new role this year after developing some career tech uh programs over the years but that were single courses and then I built a monster that needed managed that we are very excited about. So I am halftime career tech director and halftime career tech teacher. Um and we've been running with this new role to build our programs and they're not very well known yet. So we wanted to make sure that our board knew about them. Um and Janine did a nice segue

015into our community night coming up. So I want to give a little overview of what we offer just so that everyone is aware because there's a lot happening in a very short time um that we think people would want to know about. So I'm not going to read that description. We'll have it posted for everyone. But Kura tuck to us is a way in which we can provide hands-on projectbased workbased skill to students in our own building. Um we want to retain our good students. We don't want to lose them and so we are doing everything we can to keep them inhouse. And so if you have ever heard of Mayan Valley Career Tech Center, which they're phenomenal, they're our partner. They help us through the way. Um, but we offer programs like a kid

016would be going to the career center, but they're staying in the high school. Um, so we have three programs for that that we have started and we are looking at more possibilities along the way. So we want to pro provide these work-based learning opportunities for our students, but keep them in our own building along the way. Career Tech offers so many things. things I could be here all night telling you about it, but I wanted to pick some of the four main reasons that we feel this is a huge opportunity for our students. Uh, one being a $3,000 Sinclair scholarship that I will talk about. Um, it is an alternative graduation pathway. We offer industry recognized credentials and there's college credits and work-based learning. So, we're going to hit on all of those, but I

017wanted to kind of give you a preview of like why do we really want to put our effort into this now? So, we have three full career tech pathways at the high school. Our first pathway is media arts. That's a combination of myself and John Groner. Um the four courses in this pathway as if the student were going to the career center but staying here would be video production, broadcast news, graphic design, and motion graphics. Students don't have to enter a pathway and stay in it and complete the whole thing. So I feel like that's the beauty of what we offer is that a kid can dip in, dip out, they can stay in it for two courses, three courses, or just try it out. Um but opportunities come once they take two courses which

018we will talk about. So one is the media arts pathway. We have um a new show that we show on YouTube three days a week. Um students go out and work with Miami Valley Communications Council. So you can see a couple of my kids in their TV truck. Uh so they work as volunteers on their actual real life TV crew um all throughout the Miami Valley. We're working on building partnerships. So, part of what I would love the board and our district to kind of keep an eye out for is where can we extend those business partnerships. Um, we've only just started now that we are overseeing it as some full programs. So, we are looking to build those in anyway, but we've had kind of got our feet off the ground here a little

019bit with our media arts pathway. We also have a business pathway. So, if you've not seen it, we're hidden in a very small corner backstage in a small closet. But in the new building, we have a phenomenal area that they um planned out for us that will go along with it. We have a sixc screen screen printing press. Um and we also have the spirit store which is next to the cafeteria currently. Um it'll be down by the basketball gym uh concessions area and we'll have a connected classroom where these students can go from classroom to dark room to screen printing room to spirit store. All connected right across from the new um the gym in the new building. But it's a way in which students are not only um creating designs but they are

020then executing it from thought to final product. And so this is in our spirit store class that we have. Um but in our business pathway we have four courses. So we have spirit store and entrepreneurship, the management mindset learning how to be a manager, running a business 101 which is more of the operations side and business influence and sales. So like this getting together the sales and marketing. And then we offer um to both of these pathways, we have starter foundation courses that are semesters where kids can kind of check it out before they enter into the year-long. Our third one that we are in uh the process of developing. We've kickstarted with two of the four courses is engineering. We have Mr. Bodilier that teaches engineering currently, engineering design and engineering principles. Um we

021he's going to work next year on developing the third course that we will start in 27 and the fourth course in 28. That way if a student did want to complete the full pathway, it'll be there and ready for them to do so. Um, we also have, this is kind of in its own separate entity, but those three pathways are graduation routes. FCS, family consumer science, is not a route to graduation, but it is career tech. So, we converted Miss Aller to a career tech teacher last year, and we updated some curriculum to fall under career tech curriculum. So, she does get a little bit of the weighted funding for her courses, but the nice thing is is now we also are incorporating her into we've brought in chefs. Um, we have someone on our

022advisory board that owns a a restaurant in Dayton. So, we've kind of expanded into more of the culinary world for her courses. So, we now have culinary fundamentals that can lead to a global foods course, which in our population, I think would be a huge benefit for students to learn from each other and all that they can offer with what their culture provides. uh child development, which is always interesting for those kids who maybe are looking at early childhood education or just to see what how the body grows throughout the years. How do we mature? It's all good life lessons. Uh stitch and style, sewing and design. So, this is more than your home class where you know you make a pillowcase, right? So, they're making closes and they're actually designing and finding out how

023to cut fabrics and measure fabrics and do the basics that I still forget how to do. So, um, yeah, it's very useful life science courses that are happening there, and we're very happy that we converted that one over. >> So, we also have started infiltrating down into the middle school. So, we have a a big plan and a current active plan. Our big plan is to go all the way down to kindergarten in some form or fashion. Um, that is coming, but right now we are down to seventh and eighth grade. So, we were offering um an IT class and a career class in seventh and eighth grade, but we wanted to make it more intentional and purposeful for what we now have at the high school. So, um but we've been very lucky to

024collaborate with Mr. Christic and the middle school on how this would look. So, starting next year, the seventh graders will they call it a wheel. Um there's a quarter class required called health in that grade. Um, but the other three parts of that wheel that every seventh grader will be taking is an intro into each one of those courses that we offer at the high school. So, it allows I kind of call it forced fun when you're a parent, right? So, we want to see do you like it or do you not? We have been experiencing kids that are exploring this 9, 10, 11th, 12th grade and it's too late. One, it's too late to change your mind and it's too late to hop into a pathway if you like it. So, our whole focus

025is to do that exploration younger. And so, we're moving this down to seventh grade. Um, we actually were ahead of the ball game, a couple years ahead of the House Bill 66 passing that required career tech courses in middle school. Um, we luckily were on top of that and already ready to go. So, now we have been able to refine it in a way that makes sense. So, after seventh grade, after students have experimented in those different pathways, they have four options. one would be, hey, none of that's really my jam. Let's check out what else we have to offer. And so, there's going to be a career connections course. And this is where um next year it's a required quarter course as we transition over those seventh graders that are experiencing the wheel. But

026then the following year they'll be able to do a a semester of career connections or a semester of engineering, health, or media. So, after they have experienced their seventh grade year and tested out all the areas, in eighth grade, they'll be able to hone that in a little bit more. Uh the other great thing is we're looking at how we can make those eighth grade courses feeders to high school programs. So we already are ready next year to convert our media course as a high school credit as an eighth grader so that they can jump right in when they get to high school. So we will continue those transitions and vertical alignment down the way. But we do have some great things in place already. Okay. So here's the why. Let's go into the why.

027This is this is what drives me right here. the opportunity that we can provide to our students that didn't exist before. So the great thing about our partnership with Sinclair is we enroll in the Sinclair Tech Prep program and through that enrollment any student that takes two courses in any pathway is eligible for the scholarship. So they don't have to take all four. Um they can take two in one pathway or three across the board. Once they do that, we want them um to then enroll in tech prep. So they do through Sinclair. All they have to do, and I say all because this is very achievable, is maintain a 2.25 GPA. And I also think this is just a great incentive to get seniors not to check out their senior year. Because if they

028can just stay in it, because the GPA is cumulative with all their courses. So, if we can give them incentive to stay above that 225 line and provide this $3,000 scholarship, which if you look it up for a Montgomery County student, this is practically a full ride to Sinclair. Um, they can go into anything. The scholarship does not mean they have to take anything specific. It's for Sinclair in general. So, this is an opportunity that last year at the honors assembly, um, just in our kickstart year, we were able to hand out seven of these. um we will have quadrupled that this year. So we will only continue to grow that and then get kids per purposely placed in some courses so that they could finish their senior year with this opportunity. Oh, they also

029have to complete the FAFSA which is helpful in our FAFSA completion rate. Um so sometimes not all of us are collegebound, not all of us are test takers. I had test anxiety. You know, there's those of us that just need alternative pathways. And so one big thing we can now offer is the alternate graduate pathway for students that maybe don't pass all of their EOCC's. So in Ohio, this is a lot of words. I'm just going to break it down. You choose one option from the left and one option for the right. So in career tech world, but we offer every uh course in a pathway is a tested course. So just like core classes have EOCC's, we have web exam state tests. So if a student passes three of those tests from the left,

030they're on the left side. And then if they either earn their Ohio meets jobs readiness seal or through our program they are completing work-based learning if they can combo those two together they can graduate. Um we also are offering 12point industry recognized credential options in our pathways. So that's another option if they don't necessarily take all three courses to get those exams. So we are very excited to offer this alternative route for graduates that maybe don't reach the graduation option through traditional standards. um industry recognized credentials. So, we're all about what can we provide you when you leave? And one of those things is earning 12 points through these industry recognized credentials. These are all that we currently have in place. This list will continue to build as we continue to add to our programs.

031Um but as you can see, many of those are four points. They would only need three of those and you can get that in just two classes that we offer. So, this is a very achievable thing for students that maybe need that left side credential to pair with their Ohio means jobs readiness seal. Um, we want them to also receive college credits, right? So, I don't know if you're of my era and the stigma that was around JVS, schools and career centers, you know, not for that career collegebound kid. It's not like that anymore. And we want to show them that. So, all of those courses there are what the state calls CEG courses, which means if they pass the web exam in that course, they automatically receive an articulated credit good in Ohio. Um,

032and we have lists that the specific uh colleges partner over to specific courses when they get there. But all of those six courses in that list as of right now, um, they get a college credit just by passing the state test at the end of the course. So, we are very excited to be able to offer them that. We also partner with Sinclair through Tech Prep uh, with courses that aren't even on that list where we are partnering for the Sinclair credit through that course if this credit is not offered. So, a lot of college credit opportunities through career tech right now. And then work-based learning. This is where the fun happens. Okay? So they say work because they do have to work, but this is where they get to get out into the field.

033Um, so through partnerships that we are developing, we want students to actually take what they learn in the classroom and apply it to real life. What does this look like? Okay, this is where also that that mom moment where I'm going to force you to do this. And then they get out and they come back the deck study and they're like, "That was actually fun." I'm like, "Yes, I know." Oh, so the workbased learning, we are aiming at getting everyone the 250 hours. Oops, I had a button there. Sorry. Um, we're working on getting everyone the 250 hours, which is also a report card benchmark that we are going to be able to obtain through career tech pro programming. So, we want to make sure that you all know about it and that you are

034able to help us throughout the way when we maybe need business connections and just be able to spread the word. Um, as Janine said, we are doing um our family nights uh February 11th, which we'd love to see everybody at. Um, where we're going to hopefully help further explain this to our community. Thank you. >> That's wonderful. [applause] >> Thank you. >> Say any questions. That's what I meant. [laughter] >> Thank you so much, Miss Earl. Um, this is really exciting. This is really great. Um, so thank you so much. And I can hear the passion which I love that I mean >> I still have to tame it but it's >> that's that's what we love doing and your why I appreciate it. >> Um when no pressure but I was just curious because

035I love that you that pathway is so important and we really do start too late with a lot of things and so I was wondering when do you think um it might go down to the elementary school? >> Okay. Yes. So um I'm hoping we can start in some fashion next year. I've been talking with how that could look. Uh they have library classes at the elementary um buildings. And so those classes we're looking at. I think that's an easy transition already built in the schedule where we can then kind of collaborate and use some of that time to take what they're doing and revamp it in that career focus. So next year, uh I actually am test going to test it this spring and see what that looks like and trial and error some

036different ideas that we've learned. Um, we are going to sixth grade. So, I spent actually today all day at the Senate House and the House of Representatives speaking to our district reps. Um, and telling them we now have career tech in our district. Um, talked to Tom Young, our House representative, and I talked to Willis Blackshar's aid because the Senate was out today um lobbying for look, we've got this, please continue funding it, but please also don't provide mandates that don't come with funding. And so, um, my first experience today, but we got to talk about that because there's a House bill or a Senate bill coming down that's going to could possibly require sixth grade also. Um, and that that's getting traction. And so, we're looking at So, yes, we're looking at starting this

037spring and then next year to hopefully also get ahead of that curve where they tell us we have to, we want to have, you know, our way of doing it before they get to that point. >> Thank you for that. Um, next question is, how are families notified about these great opportunities? You know, we talk about the incentives, the Sinclair scholarship. How are how are our families being notified about the opportunity? >> So, this is our first year promoting it because we've been building it and we didn't know what that full vision looked like. And so, the Career Tech family night's our first event. So, that's our first time getting it out there on what that looks like. So, on February 11th, um we will our goal is to have a short presentation followed by

038hands-on demonstrations with student reps for every single pathway that parents can visit. I worked with the middle school principal and he has sent it through his Instagram, his newsletter, and through one call. And then in our building, we also sent it through one call. We're going to do another one call closer, too. And they've put it on all of the district communications. That's step one. So we are open for any future suggestions that might be helpful in infiltrating the community um that have worked in a way as you know a lot of you are you know you're from here and you know how you receive communication. So yes any ideas that you have throughout after that we wouldn't be happy for but that's our kickstart. >> Great. Two more quick questions. >> Go ahead. >>

039Where's the loc? Is it at the high school? The >> Yeah. So we own all of our programs. So we converted what we have in our building in the high school. No, I was asking the CTE night the night. >> Oh, oh, sorry. I thought you said where are the programs? Yeah, the night is at the high school. >> At the high school and then can you just provide us maybe a list? I mean, not only right now, but just a list of the current partners that you do have. >> Yeah. So, Robin and I have been Yeah. So, I started collaborating because we have to build advisory boards for every pathway. So, we started building those um and then I shared that list with Robin and she has also helped in reaching out with

040those. Yeah. So, anything that can be helpful in those she'll be able to share. >> I'd like a copy of that as well. >> Yes, we will share. >> What fields you're most looking in that would be great, too. >> Sure. Yeah, we can do that. We can condense it down. It's a very big list of people we've attempted to reach. So, yeah, any help with that, >> we might have connections there. >> That would be >> Yes, that would be great. >> So, I have a couple are >> I'm done. Thank you so much. >> Thank you. Yeah, good question. >> So, I I am the um on this the community I I do the CTC. >> Um would there be any benefit for us becoming a satellite? >> That's what we do. >>

041Is that is that what this is? >> So, the nice thing about the nice thing about what we're doing now is that we own the programs and have full control. But there's also advantage to additional programs you might add in the future, which is what we've been looking at and talking with Dr. about is that you know we had in-house teachers that we were there we can convert and then we have full control which is wonderful but there are some things like healthcare that would cost a lot of money and we don't have the staffing for that so as we look to grow Dr. for welding CTC. There have been great partners with us. They are willing to do absolutely anything that we have a vision for. So, that is something we're looking at once

042we get into the new building, what do we have space to accomplish? And then once we realize where that space is, then how do we um there's been agreement on sending satellite teachers out for things we may not be able to staff to continue to build it. >> Okay. Um and then about the Sinclair uh scholarship, so there's one scholarship. Is that one one person in West Carolton or one person in the >> No, it's every single kid. >> Every single kid that takes two courses can >> can get it. >> Oh, I thought if they were eligible to get it that >> Okay, I missed that. >> It's huge. That is why I'm up here with excitement I can't control. Yes, because the hardest part for us, we did have kids that didn't reach

043the 225 limit. um you know because they just their senior year and they get senioritis and they just maybe didn't try as hard. So I feel like this could not only help our career tech students but all of our kids continue to strive for that 225. Yes. Because every single kid that takes two courses is eligible to receive that scholarship. >> Okay. Um I I guess because it says opportunity it may it made it seem like it was a like it was a big pot and one person got it. >> Sure. Yeah. they have to do the six things in that list. So, as long as they do that, the big one being the 225 and the two courses. The others are just things that you paperwork you need to complete. >> And then my

044last um is you would mention when on the on the business pathway that they were having screen printing and stuff like that. Will community members be able to place orders and things like that through there? >> Yes. So, once it's all streamlined in one um area that can be easily managed over there. Yes. So, we'll have to sh we actually do service all of our district through that. Um, we've had changeover with some teachers, but now we have it on a path that is progressing. And so, next year once we convert over, yes, we have an we'll have an online store because our presence in the building is smaller. Um, but we want to be able to reach out to the community. So, yes, that'll all be things that the community can access. >> Awesome.

045Thank you so much. >> What time on the 11th is it? >> 6 p.m. in the auditorium. >> I think ends around 7:30. Yes, a short spiel shorter than this in the auditorium just to give them an idea of what they're getting into, but we really would then we're going to send them over to the cafeteria and all of our pathways will have student reps and activities and information that where they can go one-on-one. >> Great. >> I also have questions. >> Oh, go ahead. >> I, you know, and I have to start with this. With all of us having all these questions, it shows how important this truly is because typically when we do presentations or see presentations, people are like, "Oh, okay. Good. Thank you." And then we move on. But like for

046everyone to be so involved and to have such a passion for this, I mean, it really shows that you're hitting your stride in this hole. So, I really want to give you credit. Not just because you're rocking it with BPA, but you're [laughter] also rocking it with this. And, you know, I was on BPA and I know the amazing work that you do. And of course I was your student too for >> Yeah. I did not find a picture of our ice skating outing where you holding on to this. I left that one out. Yeah. >> Yeah. The ice skating. Not my not my thing. >> I'm going to need to >> Okay. >> Too heavy. Um [laughter] I was I was wanted to ask we have student reps here. I Yeah. Do you guys

047take any of these classes or do you have any comments or anything? >> I mean you guys are sitting right here. Yeah. Um, it's not a direct um, path, but I take yearbook and it's my third year and I'm editor of yearbook and I work with M a lot and I love your book. It's one of my favorite classes. Mr. Earl helped me start my photography business and um, it's definitely really worth it. I've had a lot of friends that take those courses and I come in just to stop in sometimes um, and I'm like, man, I don't want to leave. like this is so cool and they're always doing hands-on stuff and learning how to use nice equipment. So, I I can speak to it's great. >> Great. >> Anybody else over there? >>

048No. >> Personally, I haven't taken much of like the requirement ones like video production too and all that, but I have taken the initiative ones like small business and other like that. But I have heard already people are actually striving to get the scholarship. Like people are already saying, "Well, I'm going to take this class and this class, so I'm eligible for the scholarship." So it's already in people's minds. So it's already working this the first year, correct? >> So it's working. And actually, I took some of the classes in eighth grade with Miss Roselle. I took medical detectives and robotics and actually did help already like help me that I wanted to purs pursue something in health. So, it actually does help bringing it on early on. >> Also, I do want to say

049that last year um I knew quite a few of the people that did get scholarships and it helped them out a lot. like that's really cool and as someone that's going to Sinclair um it pretty much pays for half of your college. So that's really cool and that's a big help. >> Good. >> Well, you know, the coolest thing about it is for all those watching and for you guys in the audience here, it's this is an absolute testimony of the work that Miss Surl's doing, that Robin is doing, and really the whole team. I know that more than just you guys that's a part of this. And I mean, especially with Paley and her business, which is doing great, by the way. >> She took my family photos. >> Did she really? >> Look

050at that. Yeah. I mean, I mean, that has to bring a huge smile to your face because it does mine. That's a living testimony that the work that you're doing is working and it's already it's only been the first year, so >> really be be very happy. >> Okay. >> Well, thank you. >> Thank you. >> We're so grateful that you came and showed us everything you're doing. Please keep us updated. >> Thanks for all you do. >> Yes. >> And have done for years. >> Yes, absolutely. >> Well, and and piggyback on that is Dr. Jordan with the future ready program. >> Yeah. And thank you, Emily. Um, I mean, she is just such an asset to this district and um, I mean, we could not do any of this without you. I mean,

051you're incredible. So, thank you. And so, now that you've seen one piece of this, we're going to talk about Pirate Future Ready. And I'm just so excited about this program um because we're going to talk about kind of like the overarching umbrella now. Okay. Oh, I have the clicker. Thank you. I'm so sorry, Miss Woody. And so what this is is pirate future ready. If you think about it, is exactly what it means. We are looking to empower every kindergarten student through 12th grader to help them discover their strengths, explore career pathways, and confidently prepare them whether it's college, career, or in life. Okay? And if you read that, that's pretty that's powerful. And that's that's really important and that's a lot of weight for us too. But we can do that. Okay. And if

052you look think about all the even just that one little bucket that Emily talked about, even just the career tech pathways, we got this, you know, and it's exciting. So through this pirate um future ready students will learn about careers and future options even at an earlier earlier stages right before middle school and high school. They're going to explore career pathways at high school. They would take part in real world experiences through job shadows, through student internships, through um you know career speakers, through field trips. They're going to build those skills that they need to help them prepare for whatever life may be bringing them after they leave us. Something I wanted to show you though is the website. So, we've got something built out on the website to help our families understand what that

053pirate future ready program really means. Don't look at my picture. Okay, so the >> Deon I know. Um, so that first little part just explains what I just went through. It explains for our families what pirate future ready means. It's it's really just working do by doing. Okay? And we try to put it in familyfriendly terms. And this visual is hopefully um and I gave you all handouts so it's right there in front of you. >> We have that on the website too for families so they can see it kind of it breaks it down in buckets. So pirate future ready it's it's not just the career tech pathways. It's also work-based learning. Work-based learning is doing. It's do outside of the classroom. Okay? That's the job shadows, the student internships, the career speakers, those

054career affairs. This is outside breaking down those walls, right? It's that K12 career awareness, not just starting in middle school or high school. We want to build out K12 career awareness. And then look at that other bucket, family engagement. That's a huge part of it. And we see families as our partners with this. Okay. Do you mind to scroll down for me? Also, what's really important with this is our business partnerships. And so in order for this to work, especially with that work-based learning, we've got to have our business partners. And so that's part of some of the the work that I've been doing is reaching out to those business partners and and trying to build those partnerships. And you can see some of the existing partners that are on the website already. Um you'll

055see where they can sign up. I put a hand Well, actually I did not put a hand out. Can you click Do you mind if where it says click here? Um, Miss Maxton, I've been working with her from the chamber. She sent out an email to all of our all the chamber partners with this handout along with the link to the Google form for our partners to be able to sign up um to work with us and partner with us. that explains all the different ways that they can partner with us because businesses might not understand the language, right, on what that means. Um, but we've already had it a few additional businesses sign up within the last day actually because of that email that went out. So, we'll continue to get additional businesses sign

056up to partner with us. So, we're going to keep reaching out to more folks. But, this is on the website. It's got the link with the handout and the link to the Google form. The Google form is um yeah, you can open that up. It just has, you know, what their interests are and that helps us then know what they'd like to do. Okay, you can keep going. Go back to the website. And then there's some additional things on the website there. We have a college and career readiness calendar. And this is to help our families know exactly kind of what's going on by month. So that should, you know, kind of break it down. It's just a rough kind of estimate of what's going on. And there's links to things to help them with

057that. Then there's information about the career tech pathways, including the presentation that Emily just gave. So they can use that information. And then at the bottom [laughter] is there's a family engagement um there's family engagement information. This that what you're looking at on the screen. I gave you all a handout. Um this is information about how they can give us feedback and why it's important. And when you scroll down a little bit further, you'll see a little QR code and that leads to a survey where they can give us feedback. Okay, you go back to the presentation. So that's the website um that is now live. We're super excited about that. Okay. Um so I talked a little bit about the building how we're building partnerships. Um it's it's important you know that we need

058those and if without those it's very difficult for us to have those career speakers those lunch and learns and the job shadows the student internships. We want to continue to build those up. If you all have folks that you think would be really good guide them to the website where those the link is that they can fill out that form. That'd be awesome. We'd love that. Okay. Then what I just described with the family engagement, we um you know, I sat at the basketball game this past Friday night. This was the table. I pro they probably thought I was running for mayor. I stopped every single family as they came in. Even the families from Troy [laughter] that were coming and I said, "It's okay. We're glad to have you. Can't fill this out, but

059thank you for being here." and um you know gave them the handout and asked them for their feedback and asked them to fill out the survey and that was a family engagement event. And then we had um last [clears throat] week we had our fast our scholarship and FASA event that was another family engagement event and then coming up again we'll have our pathways and possibilities career tech family night. So, we've just got so many wonderful things going on and that goes back to what Miss Janine said about just all the wonderful things happening in in our schools. >> Wonderful. >> So, thank you. >> Thank you. >> Any any questions? >> I do have one. >> Yes, >> because I was actually on the website. >> Yeah. >> How do I put it in

060the search engine to find it? >> Yeah, it's because we made it live for the meeting. >> Okay. >> So, to make sure we had everything on there we needed. So, the link will be up here shortly. >> Great. Looks great. Thank you. >> Anything else? >> Um, so when you go on here, she helped me find it. Um, I couldn't find it either. Um, it says that this is a sample of the year long. When will there it actually represent dates for I I see a few um but like there's a a high school open house in February, but there's no date um scheduling dates for eighth grade. When when will all that be completed? Yeah, it's just because those dates vary from year to year. So, it kind of I just put it

061based on the month if that makes sense. >> Are you going to update it for this year's dates? >> It's when they give them to me, I'll add them. >> Okay. >> Do you know graduation, for example? That's another example. Like, we know the graduation date. >> Yes. >> Yeah. I think there are dates here that we do know already. That would be nice. >> Yeah. If you all think there's things I should add, I'll put them on there. and they might be linked on the high school calendar so we can get [clears throat] some of those dates from there. >> Um, we have graduation, >> right? >> We have the >> state testing. >> Yeah, testing is pretty much the whole >> um >> Yeah, that's a great idea. The only other thing um

062because um CTC recently redid their website and they have videos of their kids doing stuff. >> Oh yeah. >> Um I think a lot of the stuff that that uh Mrs. Earl showed and if you could kind of combine that on here, >> you know, everyone wants to see their kids doing cool things um and give it a better example of what that means. Um because some parents may not even know what, you know, the media courses and or pathway kind of thing is. So I would I would as much interactive as you could. >> Okay. >> Yeah. >> Thanks for the feedback. >> Okay. >> Great. Thank you. Anybody else? >> Nate, >> I'll be very quick. >> Yeah. >> When it comes to the career fair, I I think it's in March, right?

063>> Yes, it's in March. Um, are you guys look at the calendar, it's working. Um, are you guys partnering up on running that? Who runs the career? The counselors do it, but we'll be partner I'll be working with the counselors to help plan it. >> Okay. >> And I'm sharing my contact. >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> Wonderful. >> Anything else? >> Be good. [snorts] >> Thank you. Thank you. >> Appreciate it. >> Okay. The next one is points of pride and there is a robot in the house. So, I always love it when you bring the robot. So, uh, take it away, Miss Kinser. >> All right. I am Amy Kinser. I know a new face, so welcome. >> Um, yeah, I'm the assistant principal at the middle school. I feel like Emily introduced this

064already, so I'm going to read what I have, but um, she kind of brought into exactly what you're going to see here from some of our kids. So, um, like I said, I am excited to announce one of our most innovative teams, which is our robotics team. Uh, the team gives students the opportunity to collaborate, problem solve, and apply STEM skills in meaningful hands-on ways. Um, two of our best, Miss Amanda Null and I think, oh, she is Miss Heisty Shoemaker, she made it. Um, they are teaching kids to not only build robots, but confidence, teamwork, and the skills they're going to need for beyond. So, I'm excited for them to share with you what they have. They did bring some of their robots with them. So, I'm going to hand it over to them.

065>> Thank you. Hello, my name is Mrs. Newell formerly Miss Roselle. Um, so I [laughter] Yeah, no. >> Sorry. >> Um, no, she they didn't know I got married. >> Oh, okay. So, I did say, right? >> Um, so I am really proud to be the robotics team coach along with Miss Shoemaker. Um, but we are coach and name only. Uh, we have done none of this work. um that is completely done by the students. We are basically a sounding board which sometimes just consists of me sitting there and smiling and nodding while they talk it out and figure it out themselves and say thank you so much and walk away and I just stood there and listened. Um these robots were completely created by them, built by them, modified by them, sometimes remodified by

066them. Uh they go to the competitions and they interact with other students and they talk to people and they make sure that they are prepared for when they are scheduled to be there. We we have to do so little work. Um it's really incredible. So I'm going to turn it over to them because they know the most about what goes on in robotics team. >> Hello, this is my name's Laric and I'm the leader of the uh I'm the leader of robot 23727A. Um, >> my name is Cece. CC to be exact. Um, I am the uh other team leader to be uh other than Bradley because I kind of Wait, I called you way last time. I'm so sorry. But I'm the other one because I don't remember the numbers. But we are [laughter]

067uh the B one. They have A if we have B. [laughter] >> Um we are the West Carson Middle School um robotics team which consists of eight middle school students. Um we do the VEX competitions and compete with multiple other schools in the local area. The process can be very long. It's a lot of trial and error. Both teams have to record their process in the notebooks. It takes both teams all summer to think of the goal. The good idea for robot 12. I'm so sorry. 13727A had to redo the robot Rex because it was not working right. And so we built they built another one. >> X-rex the one that brought today. >> Wait this thing. >> Um competitions that we've been to. We've been going to a monthly tournament on the following dates:

068November 11th, December 9th, and January 13th. So far, 13727A, Miss Kelton Pirates, is ranked 23 and 13727B, The Robot Pirates, is ranked 11th. >> [snorts] >> This video was taken place at the Beaver Creek High Oh, competition. This Saturday we have our biggest competition for the robotics. at Washington Courthouse. Ne Tuesday is our last is the last tournament at Beaver Creek. >> Um we our um four goals are we want to win more games, have fun, work as a team, and be a pirate. >> And now we will do um some robot demonstrations. Which one? >> This is 1237278. >> What's that? >> 23. This is our robot. >> Can you explain what that is? >> That was a ball in here. >> She's up to here. >> So, the purpose is to get that

069ball to a certain goal. >> Yes. >> Okay. That's where you [snorts] >> at the beginning of competition there's so much time that the robot has to be in that mode before then they >> okay [snorts] >> okay >> when did you guys find out what the robots needed to do >> yeah we got social media There we go. [laughter] >> Nice. >> Exactly. I would say Uh the ball this robot does the same thing as the first one. He's just built it different. >> [laughter] >> Watch your There we go. >> Yeah. >> Not like the carpet, is it? No. >> They give you a kit with all the parts and you guys decide what to do or do you make up your own parts? >> Make it up. >> I'm trying to get

070the ball. It gets up there. >> So, how many points did you get for picking up the balls versus shooting the balls? >> So, it's not about picking up the balls. It's about scoring in the goals. The long are here. >> You want me to explain how the game works? >> Yeah, sure. >> So, >> this year's game is push back. Well, it's for the VEX one, which is middle school. I think high school has a different game for the box team, but the game is push back. And what the goal is is when well, let me start at the beginning of the rules. So, you start with the autonomous period and you can have one ball already logged in like in the robot already so that it'll like when the autonomous starts, you can

071just automatically have the ball and then it goes and yeah, like that. That's and then once the autonomous period is over, if they count up the points, which I kind of I think, wait, I'll get to that. >> How many How many balls are in the goals? >> It depends on how many go balls are in the goals. If it's four, it's eight points together. Two points for each ball. So after the autonomous period, there's driver control period which there will be two people that are actually at the Beex Arena and one of them is going to be driving and then one of them is there for kind of like emotional support and like they tell you [laughter] and they like tell everybody what to do and where to go. And then you also have

072another team. Well, you guys are on the same alliance, but it's like another robot and you've like never met him before probably. and they they like also help you out to like win the game. But the game is is you try to pick up the balls and there's long goals which is little like clear container looking things and you try to shoot the balls into the container. Well, not shoot them like it goes up the whatever you have for it. >> Demonstrate alert. >> Demonstrator alert. >> Demonstrate how [clears throat] the um thing works. the conveyor belt. >> I know. >> So, in theory, what should be there is the long goal on the other side to try to push the ball into the long goal. And if you have in the middle of the

073long goal, there's these little white lines, which if you get them in the middle of them, then you get more points. And I think as a lyric said, I hope you remember what he said because I don't. [laughter] Um, but that's for like a minute and 30 seconds and then once that's done, they tally the points and whoever has them whichever team has the most points wins. >> Thank you. >> I talked a lot. >> No, >> we need to know. Do you have any questions? [laughter] >> I do. Um, so does everyone take turns? I mean, do you have are there designers and then there's I guess >> Yes, we have drivers, coders. >> Okay. >> Builders. >> Yep. Drivers, coders, and then we got leaders. >> And can are they interchangeable at all?

074>> If the person's not good at the job or they want to change it, they can go ahead and do that. [laughter] >> Terrible driver. >> Fair enough. >> There you go. I just want to say thank you all so much. This was really great. Love middle schoolers. Um and uh it was great to see the demonstration and an explanation of it and way to be great leaders. Thank you so much. >> Thank you. And and there's one that we didn't hear from [laughter] >> just won't I can't notebook. >> It's okay. >> What What does a coder do? >> McKenna is our coder and she also has created the most um immaculate notebook I've ever seen from a middle school team before. um she has every single day that they've been in class. Uh

075for the first time this year, they were able to uh take robotics 2, but be be able to work on the team robot instead. So, um both of these students who are in eighth grade elected to take robotics 2 as a course and just spend that time working on their robot. So, she spent every single day, you can see the that's her notebook. She recorded exactly what happened and she drew a picture of the robot as it stood on that day up until the build was done. Um, so yeah, so while she's shy, uh, that's the work that she produces, which is incredible. She also did all of the coding for that robot as well. >> That is shyness. We are very proud of you. That's quite an an accomplishment. >> You you will make

076a wonderful computer engineer someday. I know because I have one of those in my family and and they're not very social people. So, don't worry about it. It's okay. >> So, be proud of yourself. That's something to be proud of. [applause] >> Any other questions? >> That it's funny that you said that because that kind of does lead me to a question. I'm a person that loves to watch battlebots. So, of course, I wish that at the end of this we could uh, you know, battle them out for the real for the realness. >> They're not going to do that. >> Hey, they're great robots, but come on. We want to see them flip and all that fun stuff. But I It makes me wonder, what do you guys want to do? Uh, you know,

077as you leave high school, go on do career things. Is coding something that is in your you do leadership. Is that something that you're interested in? What do you guys want to do? >> Oh, that's a good question. >> When I get into high school, I know I would definitely be joining the robotics team for high school. >> Um, I had to figure out what I wanted to do after that. So, >> have you done all of the different ones? Have you have you done coding and all that stuff? >> I'm really not that good at coding. We have Jasmine, which is not here today. She is our coder for my team I built. >> But you have dabbled in it at least. >> Yes. Okay. I did also forget to introduce myself. Um, I'm

078>> um I am CC CCR to be exact. >> CCA >> and um I I just kind of am here and >> um I've done coding, building, I've done a little bit of everything. So, which one do you enjoy the most? >> Building. >> Okay. >> And how long does building take? Is that the whole pro? I know they said it's like a couple months to do the whole thing. How long does the building process take? >> It it it just depends if you need to like change anything or if you're just trying to just edit something. If something's not moving right, just depends on what you need to do. >> Okay. Did really, really well. >> Thank you. I do want to thank you guys because um they have to be interviewed >> um

079at the competition and they have to talk about the robot. So they should be fine now because it's only like two people they have to interview in front of. >> There you go. >> The notebooks it looks great. >> Looks amazing. You did a brilliant job. >> Excellent job. >> Who's presenting the whole team? >> Wow. >> Well, I love it when you bring the robot. >> It's two different teams as well. I'm the leader of one of the teams, which is the B1. >> I'm the leader of the other one. >> All right. >> Thank you. >> So, you're welcome to bring those robots back anytime you want. >> And good luck. [applause] >> Also, I'm so sorry that it seems like this was put together very last minute. There was no practicing. [laughter]

080>> We did a great job. Thank you guys so much. >> Thank you and good luck. >> You guys did great. >> Very female heavy team, too. >> That's cool to see. >> I I've seen them online, especially when they go >> come back over here with the hat. We got to get that on film. Keep rolling. Keep rolling. >> There you go. There we go. Good job. >> There we go. Yeah. They wear >> a nice >> Okay. Well, fun is over and now we have to get back to [laughter] >> our business section of our meeting. Um, so Mr. Sloan, you're going to have to follow the road, but I'm sorry. And that's just the way it goes. Uh, so you have item number nine. >> Thank you. I ask the board approve

081the minutes of the regular meeting held on January 21st, 2026. >> So moved. >> Second. >> Any comments? >> Nope. All righty. >> Mrs. I'm sorry. [laughter] >> Yes. >> Roll call. >> Mrs. Miller? >> Yes. >> Mr. Mundy? >> Yes. >> Mrs. Robinson Thompson? >> Yes. >> Mrs. Shley? >> Yes. >> Mrs. Gibson? >> Yes. Item number 10 is about our financial forecast. Mr. Sloan, >> I ask that the board approve the financial forecast as presented. >> So moved. >> Second. >> You have any comments? >> Um so as we know districts have to approve a financial forecast at least twice a year. Uh they have moved the dates. Um the dates used to be the end of by the end of November and by the end of May. Um going forward now the

082required dates are by the end of February and by the end of August. I've given you uh three pieces of paper. So I will just try to get through that pretty quickly. Um the first page is just regarding our property valuation. Uh a few weeks ago we received our property values um for collection year 2026 which is the bond >> [clears throat] >> uh which is near the bottom of this sheet. Um as we know the county auditor does an update or re reappraisal every three years. Um so in 2024 as indicated um you know as we all know what's happened with u you know with with home values you know there was a um an increase there in 2024 and then um Carl Key said to maybe expect an increase in the neighborhood of

08320 or 25% for collection year 2027. So that's what I plugged into here. Um, one thing this tells us is that for the, for example, for the 2026 line, our total valuation is almost uh $61 million. Um, the main point of that number is that if you multiply that number by 0001, that tells us that if, for example, we if we did a levy in 2026, that one mill would raise 601,000. Approximately, two mills would raise two times 601,000. etc. Um, and then also just want to point out over on the far right column, it just um shows how over the course of the last 35 plus years, the residential value as a percent of our tow valuation has increased from uh the mid 50% um up to it's so it's 77% this year. So

084what that tells us is that for example if a levy were passed in 20 in 2026 that um you know 77% of the cost would be paid by the homeowners and 23% would be would be paid by businesses. Um if a levy were passed in 2027 that split would go to approximately 8020. if if there were an approximate 20% increase um in next year and if the the business value stayed flat. So um it just it reflects the fact that the legislature has given a lot of tax breaks to businesses over the course of the years which puts more and more of the burden on homeowners as as we and other districts across the state um go to the to the ballot periodically to to try to raise additional revenue. Um, and then I will

085just go to the second page. Apologize for the small print, but just thought there was a benefit to try to get all this on on one page. So at the very top, estimated bottom line. Um, so the it says general fund octo so in October the October 2025 forecast. Um, the numbers 12.1, 8.1, 2.5, and minus 4.4 before those were the estimated bottom lines from the October forecast and then right below that are the estimated bottom lines from this current forecast. The main point is that this current forecast is very very similar to the forecast uh that we approved in October. Not a lot has changed in the past three or four months in terms of um just the projections. Um but part of that is, you know, it's just a difference between doing the

086forecast um in early February as opposed to doing it in early May because you know a lot more information um in May obviously than you do in February. And then the line below that is just taking the estimated bottom lines for FY26 through FY29 and then adding in the $11 million that's in fund [clears throat] 70. the $11 million. Um we transferred that back in the 2425 school year to fund 70 um based on uncertainty with the state legislature and uncertainty with um just finalizing some construction projects. So um it's just important to make the distinction between the the general fund numbers and the general fund numbers plus the the dollar amount that's in fund 70. Um the graph below that is it's like right now we are in FY26. Uh the point of the

087second graph is just to show that we are looking at estimated declining revenues and um and we and every other district across the state and the nation. Um you know we're personnel based. So, you know, as you look at your budget going forward, um you your costs are going to increase um every year and that just leads to projected deficit spending as you go forward. Um so, the goal obviously is identifying how we're going to reduce or minimize the gap between our expenses and our revenue. Um but the graph right below that just reflects the actual dollar amount. So this year um this year we are looking at expenses being approximately $1.9 million above our revenues. Um what this does reflect though is like for the previous nine years um our revenues our revenues have

088ex exceeded our expenses for for nine years in a row. So this is um this is the first year since the 2015 2016 school year um where we're actually spending more than we're bringing in. Um the unfortunate thing is that our state funding is being cut as we look forward and and that just adds to the projected deficit spending as we go forward. And as I noted there in the middle um the high department of education do whatever you want to call them >> they have done stimulations for next school year and they are projecting that our funding will be cut by about 500,000 next year. And also just the point that um for FY27 through FY29 uh this forecast has projected 0% on the base salary increases. The graph below that is the amounts

089from above which include the amount in fund 70 and um just shows the estimated how that balance declines as we go forward. The graph right below that the 5.8 5.2 2 4.3 um that is just the dollar amount the cash balance in terms of saying how many months of next year's budget that that year's uh balance will cover. So for example um the 5.2 means that at the end of this June or balance at the end of June will cover approximately 5.2 months of next year's budget. And down at the bottom um where I just wrote in half and full in terms of 2026 and 2027, just making the point that um you you always have to account for the lag. You know, once a district goes on the ballot and passes a property tax,

090for example, you have to account for for the lag on when you're actually going to get a full year. So, just making the point that to get a full year of revenue um for the 20 for for FY28 um a district would need to pass something in 2026. And then if you pass in 2027, you don't get you do not get a full year revenue until the 2829 school year. And uh the last page is just all the numbers um from the 22 23 school year out through the 28 29 school year. Uh I won't go into that just because these graphs and so forth are just trying to summarize and simplify all the numbers and just give us a big a big picture of um of how we're looking this year in the next

091three years. Any questions? >> Grim as it may be, it's our numbers. >> Grim as they may be, it's our numbers. So, well, we can hope for the best when it comes to the state, but a >> and I mean internally, I mean, we're always looking at, you know, at the next year and so forth in terms of what we can do um what we can do from our perspective in terms of um just being as efficient um as we can because you know approximately 82 83% of our budget is personnel based. So, um, we're always looking at, um, at what we can control and that, you know, we can't control really what happens on the revenue side, but we obviously can control what happens with our expenses as we move forward. >> Okay. Thank

092you. All right, we will move on to the next item is >> the roll call. >> Oh, roll call. Go ahead. >> Sorry. >> Mr. Mendy, >> yes. >> Mrs. Robinson Thompson, >> yes. >> Mr. Shppy, >> yes. >> Mrs. Gibson, >> yes. >> Mrs. Miller. >> Yes. Now we can move on to item number 11. Mr. Barry, some personnel items. >> Good evening. >> Superintendent recommends that the board approve the following personnel items 11 A through 11E on agenda >> and F. and items 11 A, 11 C, 11 B and 11F on the agenda. >> So move >> second. >> Have any comments? >> I wanted to congratulate uh Brian Coleman >> in New York >> and Peggy Robinson. Yes, I will have more to say about them later, but they are retiring. So,

093we have I thought it was seven. I counted it again. We're at nine. We were at 13 last year. Um, we will have more retirements. I believe in the upcoming years because we move from 34 years to 32 years for retirement. So, more will be eligible to retire. Um, just for your information, we invite all of our retirees back in June. >> Okay. >> And then we honor them and usually with a bell, >> right? >> And they receive a belt. >> Great. Thank you. >> I also wanted to except Do you have anything else, Deon? I was going to mention that um in 11C we have a alumni. Like to talk about our alumni, Miss Ballard. Madison, >> I'm pretty sure she's an alumni. I'm going to give it a 97%. >> Okay. >>

094Just wanted to recognize that. Always good to see alumni coming back. >> I need a roll call, please. >> Mrs. Robinson Thompson. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Shoppy. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Gibson. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Miller. >> Yes. Mr. M. Yes. >> Item number 12 deals with a personnel item. Mr. Barry, >> superintendent recommends that the board approve listed personnel item. >> Move. Second. >> Any comments? >> Uh, no. >> Okay. Any questions? Roll call, please. >> Mrs. Shley, >> yes. >> Mrs. Gibson, >> yes. >> Mrs. Miller, >> abstain. >> Mr. Mundy, >> yes. Mrs. Robinson Thompson, >> yes. >> Item number 13 deals with some more personnel items. Mr. Prairie. >> Superintendent recommends that the board approve the following personnel items 13A on the agenda. and addition. >> So moved. >> Second. >>

095Any comments here? >> No. >> I have a question. >> Okay. >> I have a lot of questions tonight. Um, have we done a uh a talent show >> one before? >> For some reason, I can't remember where >> I'm getting older. That's what it >> I just didn't know if we done it before or not. >> Yes, we have. [laughter] >> Thanks, guys. >> Okay, roll call, please. >> Mrs. Gibson, >> yes. >> Mrs. Miller, >> yes. >> Mr. Mendy, >> yes. >> Mrs. Robinson Thompson. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Shopper. >> Yes. >> Item number 14 deals with uh a service agreement. Mrs. German. >> Good evening. The superintendent recommends that the board approve the first amendment to the school counseling service agreement with Samaritan Behavioral Health as presented. >> So moved. >> Second.

096>> Any comments? This is normal, I believe. >> We're just making an addition to an adding another mental health therapist because their case loads are full. Um, and make sure all the kids get what they need. >> Good. Excellent. Any other questions or comments? Roll call, please. >> Mrs. Miller, >> yes. >> Mr. Mundy, [clears throat] >> yes. >> Mrs. Robinson Thompson, >> yes. >> Mr. Chopper, >> yes. >> Mrs. Gibson, >> yes. >> Item number 15 deals with our robotics bunch. >> Yes, this is for our high school team. Um, which you can live stream this if you'd like. Um, I recommend that the board approve as presented the West Carlton High School robotics student trip to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. They're excited up there too about it. From March 19th, 2026 through March 22nd, 2026,

097students are learning engineering and teamwork skills as they work together to build a robot that will compete in this year's challenge. During the build season, students design, prototype, build, program, test, and practice with the robot. Students will improve teamwork skills, exhibit gracious profess professionalism, a first motto, and learn from adult mentors and other students in over 50 teams from surrounding states. It is truly an incredible experience for all of our students. We have 24 kids going. >> Wonderful. >> All right. Any motion? A second. >> So moved. >> Second. >> All right. Any other questions, >> comments? Roll call, please. >> Oh, we did. [snorts] >> Um, so my first question was answered. I see that all the paperwork was filled out. Um, how the students are paying for the cost themselves? >> No, it's

098coming out of the robotic sponge. So, they do lots of fundraising and that is how they're paying for it. >> Okay. So, it's not per Okay. All right. >> Okay. Any other questions? Just real quick, I know because it's a good little ride from here from there in a car. It's like four hours. I know. Just curious, does the competition start on the 19th or they go up a day before? >> Um, it depends upon the competition. So, I used to coach and it was um some days it started the day we got there, other days it's next in the morning. So, >> um they'll be taking a bus, >> right? Yeah. >> Yeah. It's fun. It's a lot of fun. >> Yeah, >> they are. It's amazing experience. It really is. Especially the big

099competitions where everybody comes in these >> states. It's great. >> Yeah. Yeah. It was really It's really a lot of fun. >> It's wonderful. [snorts] >> Roll call, please. >> Mr. Mundy. >> Yes. Mrs. Robinson Thompson. >> Yes. >> Mr. Sh. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Gibson. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Miller. >> Yes. And we wish them good luck. >> Yes. >> Hopefully they will bring back accolades of everything they've done. >> You watch it on live stream. >> Okay. Um, we have a new item number 16 and uh it's I will need a motion and a second that the board of education approve Dormitria Robinson Thompson attending the KOSPA national conference in Louisville, Kentucky, March 12th, 2026 through March 15, 2026. >> So move second. >> Okay, we need some information. So can you please

100provide? >> Yes, absolutely. So KASPA stands for um consortium of state school boards association. Um it was founded actually it comes out of the of the OSBA um that was founded in 2020 2022. Um it's a nonpartisan um organization uh with national alliances dedicated to sharing resources, information to support, promote, and strengthen state school boards, associations um as we serve local schools um districts and board members. Um their mission um is to um to be like I said nonpartisan a national alliance dedicated to sharing resources information to support promote and strengthen state school board associations. Um this year they have they always have keynote speakers and as well as breakout sessions. This year um the keynote speakers two of them one is Dr. Melissa Reeves, who is a nationally certified school psychologist, as well as

101Dr. Ralph Simpson, who is a seasoned educator, um an influential leader specializing in transforming educational environments. Um yeah, so that's a little bit about the consourcing of itself as well as the conference. >> Um any other questions? I have questions, but I didn't know. Go ahead. >> What is the cost involved >> for this? >> Can I give me a second? I didn't >> uh Why do you remember that off the top of your head? If not, I can look it up. >> Um >> I mean, is the registration approximately like $2,000 total? Because there's like a separate fee because we don't because we're not actually a member of Kaspa. there was a pre-registration um and then the regular I think it was around the 2000 plus it was I believe 259 a night at

102the hotel for the five nights >> and that's something the district pays for or the individual >> we have a board >> fund um which funds us to go all five of us to go to OSBA and there's some left over from that. Um but it would be to fund uh she would draw out of that. So she would not pay for that. Now, there are have been other things. I know I have gone to conferences where I have requested the district just pay the entrance fee and uh and it's been years and years ago and it was only $75 and I I paid my own way there and I paid for my own hotel and all, but it's it's up to the individual board member as to whether they want all of it paid

103or they want some of it paid. Um, you know, this one she would drive to, so it would be mileage plus the hotel plus the entrance fee and >> and we're not. >> No. >> Well, let me but again, >> we kind of are, but >> yes, because it is actually Ohio um OSBA is a partnering. We actually OSBA which we're a part of, >> right? is a member of Kaswell and actually OSBA will be at CASPA and others there are other school boards throughout the state of Ohio that will be there because they're part of they're part of OSBA. >> So do we have to pay the member rate then or the non-member rate? >> We're currently not a member of CASPA but we are what I'm saying is that CASPA is ail OSBA

104is affiliated. >> I understand what you're saying. I just didn't know if that would include us getting a better rate. I would just say yes. >> And that rate is $2,000, correct? >> Do do you have a total of what the the the cost would be? Well, I didn't I didn't know that I >> I asked her to bring the information when she got here. Um >> I didn't know ahead of time. So, yes, I didn't know ahead of time. So, um I didn't tally anything total. I didn't I do a total. Um it does say um yes the non-member it's no the the general registration is $975. There's a pre-conference that's not but you just do the regular conference it's $975 >> and then >> for the conference and then the stay >> $259

105a night. >> I have to look I don't know. I have to look it up. >> Yeah. When I looked it up, there was the uh the cost on Let's see. All right. Yes. But I'm sure again I didn't, you know, there's other hotels that are more reasonable right close by. Louisville is a big city. Um again, if I would, you know, had more time, I would have investigated, you know, >> hotels that don't cost >> 2359. Now, I've never seen the go. I know. I've seen it. It is a humongous, really tall hotel and I know it's right here in the thick of things, but I'm sure there's probably other hotels that are more reasonable, >> but I would have to investigate that. >> Is there any uh late fees? How long can Ryan,

106do you know how long it we have to >> say? Yeah, it says there aren't any late fees. There was early like an early registration would have been cheaper actually but the it says after January 12th the cost for the national conference only is 8.25 25 then because we're not a member which goes to what Shley was saying that instead of it being 825 I think maybe that's a 925 975 so it's 975 if it had been earlier it would have been a little bit would have been cheaper >> so it's not going to get anymore >> no >> okay so it's >> no it just says after after January 12th that that is the two costs either whether you're member or non-member there's no late fees or anything like that >> if you wish

107to table this. We could vote on it in March when she has all of the everything put together. I don't know if that'll be too late for the hotel. >> I will entertain that. >> When is the conference? >> March 12th. >> March 19th is what it says. >> No, that's not the wrong one. >> Yeah, >> sorry. >> Wrong one. Um because our next meeting is March 4th. So, they could approve it then. I I'm just throwing that out if you desire, >> but it won't get any cheaper. >> No, it's not going to get any cheaper and it won't get any more expensive. Just ask about what I'm asking. >> How much um Mr. Salone, how much do we have? you know approximately what the five of us spend per year to go

108to OSBA, how much is in the fund, how much is left over in the fund that we can use and and this is for all of us to use. So, >> right. >> Um, >> so every year the board approves a resolution saying that the board can't that the board will put a maximum of $20,000 into a board service fund. Uh one thing is that like that is on that's for a calendar year January through December. >> Okay. >> Um so you know our budget our book our books obviously are on a July through >> oh >> a June basis. Um and um so that you know what we do at the organization mean just authorizes us to to put $20,000 into the into that board service fund. When I do the budget, um, I

109don't actually I don't actually put 20,000. I could put 20,000 in in the budget, >> but I don't and I haven't because because we haven't >> spent that >> because we've never spent that much in the past. Um, >> so that doesn't answer your question, but it kind of >> um, >> do [snorts] we usually spend all that you put into it going to OSBA? I get that. I guess that's a good question. >> Off the top of my head, I think I usually budget about $9,000 for for different conferences and um I don't know how much off the top of head. I don't know how much of that 9,000 is remaining. I mean >> I mean the majority of that was I mean OSBA was not $9,000. >> If we're tableing it, we could

110you could provide that information for us. >> Yes. If we then we could get all of the facts. >> Yes, that's what I'm saying. If you want to do that, >> is there anything else that that fund covers for us for the rest of the year? >> I know we have like a retreat and that kind of stuff. So, what what all comes out of that account? Um really it's um it's it's mainly just for for OSBA and any other miscellaneous any other miscellaneous um workshops that the board might go to. >> So that's just for trainings and >> it's for PD. >> Yeah. Yeah. And I think you did a training a little bit earlier this year, right? >> No new board. >> I went to the new board. >> The new board? >>

111Yeah. which that came as well. Yes. >> And there are several things throughout the year that we could all go to that OSBA supplies. I know she brought some of them back. They're on their website. Uh they have a board of leadership um in the first weekend of May. Actually, it's the second because they they went over Mother's Day. >> Thank you for that information. >> But um you know, there's there are countless different things. Some of them are zoom, some of them you have to go to Columbus, some of them are just around wherever. >> So those are opportunities. Um a long time ago we used to go uh as funds and the whole climate changed. Uh the board itself decided against going out of state. Um, we didn't use we didn't put any

112of that into the policy. Uh, it was just kind of understood. >> That's kind of how we did it. Um, because we used to a long time ago. I've been on the board for 28 years. So, >> it's been that first 10, I guess, that we actually did go places. And then after that, like I said, I've gone to a couple, but I paved my own way basically. Um, and and you can do that. Um, there's some out there. There's uh I know that this one in particular was uh put into play because OSBA and a bunch of other states pulled out of an SBA. So they those other states of Pennsylvania also pulled out at the same time Ohio did >> and so they've kind of formed this allegiance. Uh in fact uh the

113the last gal that was running OSBA has gone on and is running that. >> Correct. >> And she replaced Rick Lewis. Rick Lewis was there forever. He was kind of with me. >> So this is this is kind of new for all of us. We've never, you know, I haven't been for years. Um, and I don't think any of the rest of us have traveled anywhere other than Columbus. We go up to Columbus and and do that. So, >> so, um, what is your pleasure? Do you want to vote on this measure tonight or do you want to tape it and then once she gets all of her facts and figures done, we can revisit this? I I think it's kind of up to to you as to how much time that you need to

114prepare to go um if you decide to go. Yeah. >> How much time I need for >> Well, I mean, so if you don't find out until March was it >> fourth is that do you want to a vote tonight or I mean it's first of all are we driving? So it's no there's no flight or anything like that. You know there's no it's up the street almost right. It is another state but Louisville's not that far. So it's it's it's a drive. We are covering your mileage, correct? >> Yeah. Well, I mean mileage, yes, it would be mileage, but not a rental car or a flight or anything like that. So, yeah. I mean, it's it's fine in terms of I guess we were trying to ask me about >> Are you wanting the

115vote tonight or you want some put together? >> It's whatever your pleasure. with the with the cost of the event. I I'm good with either word. >> I would like a total just so it' be in our record for what we what we're approving. I think that's the smart I mean total cost. I ask everyone else to do this that for all. >> Yeah, that's what I'm saying with the other trips. We've always done that and that's why I think if we have that total I I would pref prefer doing it at the next meeting >> and that's yeah that's like and that's and I hear you and that would that makes sense to me. I just didn't know ahead of time to do that. >> So I not a problem at all. Yep. That's

116fine. >> Okay. Do I hear a motion to table this item until the March 4th meeting? So moved. >> Second. >> Roll call, please. >> Mrs. Robinson Thompson. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Sh. Yes, >> Mrs. Gibson. >> Yes, >> Mrs. Miller. >> Yes, >> Mr. Mundy. >> Yes. >> Okay. This item has been moved to the March 4th meeting. >> All right. Okay. Uh, that ends all of those things and we will now go to comments and reports and our student reps down at the far end. I'll turn it over to you. Um, so I have a lot today, so I'll try to make it quick. Um, National Honor Society, um, is selling hot chocolate. Uh, it'll pre-sale before lunch. Um, or at lunches before, but it'll be passed out first, second, and third period

117next, uh, Wednesday. Um, it's kind of a Valentine's Day thing. Student council also does a carnation sale, so we're kind of piggybacking off that to use as a fundraiser for NHS. Um, musical auditions. The first round happened tonight and the second bunch will happen next Monday and then uh call backs are Thursday. So >> yeah. What's the >> Oh, the musical is Hades Town >> and it's >> I'm going to on Monday. Okay. >> So it's kind of like um a Greek Gods kind of musical. >> Um and yeah, it's it's pretty it's complicated, but it's really cool musical. >> Will you be fetch in it? >> So fetch. so much. [laughter] >> Uh today there was a um music recruiting tour for um the choir, band, and orchestra. So we went to the intermediate

118school, the elementary school, and the middle school and did performances and just basically um talking um and performing about um each group, what they do, and why you should join music classes um for next year and why they're so great. And um for seniors, yearbook senior photos are due Friday, February 27th. So that's a date that's coming up pretty soon. Uh you have to have your senior youth and baby photo submitted by then. Um I know Janine mentioned it briefly, but OMA um I attended and I um received a superior award um in class A. So, that was a big accomplishment for me because I did a song that was really out of my comfort zone and I received the best rating you can get. Um, I'm sure Ava will talk about hers. And then,

119uh, it's funny because I actually had written down before Miss Earl gave her presentation about your book and how much I love it and um, how it's coming to an end, but we're working towards um, all the senior year stuff and that kind of goes with the senior yearbook photos. And I also was going to mention um this is more of a personal achievement, but my um photography business, Haley Shu Photography, is now an LLC. It's the state of Ohio. I've done um a lot of the official business stuff to get it um moving. So, that's really exciting. And Mis helped me do all that, which I'm very grateful for. So, if you need any photos done, um you can look me up on Google and where you'll find me and all my websites and

120everything. Um so, check those out. Follow me on Facebook if you haven't. And then, um let's see. Oh, um student council and NHS were each going to do a building tour in the new building with Jack um last week, but because of the delays and uh closures, they'll have to be rescheduled. >> It's okay. [laughter] We'll have to reschedu those. So, we're still looking forward to that. Um, and then let's see. The last thing I think I have is um if you're interested in being a student board rep, be thinking about that because um we're going to look for a replacement for me when I leave. So, we'll So, um April probably will be when we send those out. But, yep. Keep that on your radar. I think that's all I have. >> I have

121a question about that. Yeah, I'm a newbie. So, how ex how is that done? I was wondering about that. The student reps, how is there an application? Is there an interview process or what? >> There is an inter there is an application and those will be going out. >> I will have to get those going out um in April and uh then we generally do our interviews in May for the next year. >> And as it becomes even more and more of a program, I hear people talking about are interested in it, >> which is good. >> Really exciting. Awesome. So, hopefully >> the marrier. >> A decent amount of applicants this year. >> Exciting. >> Okay. I don't have much because of the snow and everything, but the staff versus students game is coming

122up and sign up for that. And it ends around February or the beginning of March, I'm not sure. Um, talent show auditions, those are in March. So, if you want to be in the talent show that we have every year, [laughter] >> please. >> Wait, wait, [laughter] wait. The question wasn't about I know the talent shows there. I just didn't know we paid a stipen for someone to run it. >> Let's not say that. >> That's not what you said. >> No, [laughter] I meant it as the stipen. >> Look, trust me. I know about township. All right. >> All right. I'm going to challenge you a little bit. >> You all thought it was a strange question, but [laughter] >> And also, my little sister is in Miss Fe's second grade class, and she

123actually came home asking for fabric and everything, and she was so excited to help. And she actually told me they're working on a new one. And Miss Fee got donated a sewing machine, so she didn't want to have to do it by hand like she did the last one. So, I'm pretty Yeah, she did it by hand and she got donated a sewing machine. So, now my sister comes home saying that she helped because they they have to step on the paddle thing to start the sewing machine and she's like, "I am so excited." And they actually get this time instead of bringing in fabric, she has leftover fabric and they're making their squares. So, they're making a new blanket to send out. And yeah, and that's all I have actually. Okay. Um, to piggy

124back off what Haley said about OMA, it went really good. I performed in a solo, a duet, and a trio. And we als uh received a superior ratings on that, which is really good. >> And then we the people went really good. We got to meet our legislators. And then going to the Senate House was like a really big thing. um unit five which is my group and then unit six we received first place in our class so we got to take home medals and then our unit three which was the Ohio question they won the plaque because they won first place in that category and then overall as a school we got third place which is really good um I'm very proud of all of us and all our hard work it was a

125lot even though it was earlier this year um and then me and Haley had a Montgomery County meeting last Friday Yeah. And that went really good. We talked about AI and we talked about phone policies in our schools and actually we talked about like wanting to have more future readiness in our school and like different ways that we can approach that and like Miss Earl's presentation. A lot of that kind of goes with what me and Haley were discussing too. So that went really good. And then not next week, but the week after, Spanish members from 3, four, and five are going to Puerto Rico. So, and I'm one of those members who are going. So, I'm really excited to go to Puerto Rico finally and hopefully see Bad Bunny. So, [laughter] >> did I

126see that um you had siblings in your >> Yeah. So we're OMI. We did a trio. Me, my brother, and my sister. >> And my sister's a freshman, my brother's a senior. So that's the only time where we can perform together. So we go to perform and get that superior rating. >> Congratulations. >> I also forgot we have a roundt meeting February 14th and we're all going to be meeting through Zoom cuz it's too cold to go to school right now. >> Yes, we are. But very excited for that meeting. And yeah, >> um to add on the ESC meeting, um we we also get to talk to delegates there um at our next meeting in March or April. April and um and we're preparing to talk to them about how important it is to

127push career readiness in schools and at such a young age and how um different ideas of implementing that and um so that's funny because a lot of schools actually don't have that and it's really important and our district proves why it's so important. So it's really cool that we've already implemented it. >> Wonderful. Thank you. All right. Um we We'll move to committee reports. Anybody on a committee gets >> am I on every committee or something? I feel like I am. I think so. >> Um, okay. So, um, DT, I'm using the acronym, but I know what it means. The district leadership team, thank you. I got a little clap back there. Um, met this morning. Um, and it was, um, very insightful and very informative. Um, so each of the schools um had a

128a focus area that they were working on. Um, and I I kind of highlighted ECC because that's my building. >> What I also wanted to say something about um I you know my building is the one who got the staff um >> yeah staff spotlight >> just just just so you were keep make sure you're >> wait till next month. >> Okay. Um anyway, so ECC's was um to the teachers to provide intentional and differentiated tier one instruction. Um so if you're not familiar with school lingo, the whole tier system is complex in itself. Um and it it it just kind of breaks down what kids need. Um and so they started focusing on tier one um and just trying to um get that to work in a better situation so that each child gets

129what they need at the time that's most appropriate. Um so there was walkthrough data that was was presented. Um and then there were worksheets that they had to complete. Um, and so it really kind of gave them goals and ideas what the uh staff needs to do and what we hope that these students get out of doing that. So it was really informative. Um, great information. Um, and Dr. Townsen helped me because it was an RTFI priority focus area and I sat through the whole meeting had no idea what that meant and afterwards I said so it is reading tier fidelity inventory. So now you all know now you all know what I know. Um so that was that one. Um Angie, do you want me to do the finance committee? Go for it. >>

130Okay. So the finance committee met before this meeting. um and just kind of went over the forecast and and um started talking about um some of the things that are upcoming and just recognizing that with all of the state bills, with everything that's going on with the funding and stuff that we are going to be looking at making some big decisions soon. Um so we started looking at some options that we can have. Um we've asked that there be more information gathered and presented later at a at a later date. um and um looking for ideas how we can address this and um we will be coming up with a couple new polic at least one new policy um that will represent how we were want to handle this in the future um I think

131that's okay. All right. And I don't have anything from CTC because there's until next week which I will not be able to attend but >> Okay. Great. Thank you. Anybody else have a committee? >> Well, I a committee will be meeting sometime in late March. We just have Nate and I have to meet on that. >> Did not turn. >> I know. I have a note, too. >> You have a note and you didn't do it. >> Sorry. >> I'll go to our superintendent, Dr. Townson. >> We have a meeting after this meeting. So, I'm just going to congratulate all of our students who have won so many awards in the past few weeks. And also, I'd like to congratulate Stacy Turner on the first spotlight winner. And that's really all I have tonight. >>

132Okay. Thank you >> from the ECC. >> Goodness, Mr. Slo. >> Nothing further this evening. >> Okay. Then we will go over to our table and we'll start with Mr. Hag. congratulations you music winners up there and to also the we the people and the business professionals of America. So looking forward to setting up a new tour for you guys. Um it's amazing what a week's difference has made in the school. So um they've got all the floors uncovered now. They've taken the flooring up. We've got tables and science labs and family consumer science. Um, so it's classrooms on the first floor almost all the way done. >> Really excited. >> So, we're uh it' be kind of cool. You guys are coming at a good time. So, >> is there approximate when when you'll

133get to go and do the tour? >> Tell me when. >> It's really funny because I was thinking about joining >> you guys. You guys tell me when we set it up. take a which would be best, April or May. >> Shoot. By May, uh there won't be anybody left working in that building. Um it will be just touch-ups. So doesn't matter. >> Which which would your pleasure people's >> you guys tell me and we could do it. Um >> I mean I can schedule anything. >> We have one meeting in April. >> Yeah, we have one meeting in April and we have two in May. possibly going to be out of town early. >> Okay. >> The big >> I've seen it though and it's amazing. >> Oh, we can do it the first

134meeting. >> You would not recognize it today even though you saw it just a month ago. I was just there a month ago. It was amazing. >> First meeting in May. >> May 6. >> Yes. May 6th. That's when we'll go. Y [snorts] >> and we'll schedule it to go through it before the meeting. >> We'll meet over at 5:00. >> 5 o'clock. >> Does that give us enough time? >> Is that okay? >> That' be funny. >> Takes about an hour to go through it. If you It depends on how much you go through. >> We have to be here at six. >> We'll do it. We can do it another hour. >> We just Okay. Well, good. We got that settled. All right, moving on. Dr. Jordan, anything? >> I'm good and I'm

135passing. >> Mrs. German, >> I just want to echo all the congratulations. I know it's really difficult to get an award at OA. >> Yes, I actually >> it's difficult as a tuba player and did that. It's very nerve-wracking. It's like one of the most nerve-wracking experiences. Um, so congratulations. shout out. Um, and I wanted to shout out Jack and the maintenance crew because I don't think I think we might have had the best parking lots around. There was zero ice. >> Everything was clear and it was quite the historic snowstorm. >> Oh, yes, it was. >> Yes. >> All right, Mr. Barry, anything this evening? >> Same thing. Um, good job. O >> there you go. uh the robotics team in middle school did a really good job watching CC. CC was born when

136I was a principal. That was Mrs. Ramirez's daughter. >> It was good to see her. And congratulations to the eighth grade girls and the varsity boys basketball. Um hopefully they continue and finish strong. And girl, excellent uh presentation. Um, I've been watching growing the program and more and more interest from students and and a lot of positives that we get to hear. Excellent presentation. Very thorough. Uh, good job. Keep it up. >> All right, we will go to Mrs. Gibson. >> You're up. >> Um, yes. So, again, I could list everything. Ditto ditto ditto ditto ditto. Um I I guess one thing that I that's really on on my mind is um and we started this conversation um somewhat at um OSBA is how can we get parents more involved? That was one of the

137things that came up today at the DT was, you know, if the parents aren't invested, it's really hard for the children to be invested. Um, and so I've really been kind of of of um, searching the internet and picking brains. How do we get our parents to come here to get information that benefits them and their child? Um, so if anyone has any ideas, um, please let us know because that is something that we are really wanting to see increase um, in in our school district. Um, our kids are doing great. um they are making improvement but if they have that parental support it makes so much difference. >> That's all I have. >> Okay. Thank you. >> Mrs. Shley >> turn on your microphone. >> She's [laughter] going to dispose each time. Um so

138I the OMA I had that on my list for the high school. Um, the sol the solist that received superior ratings were Mc Mckenna Mun, Matthew Mount, Connor, is it Connor Papus? >> Papus. Okay. Uh, I can't read my writing. I think it's Alan Rambi and Haley Schuster. Excellent rating was received by Ellie Store, Natalie Vandervort, and a good rating was received by Payton. Uh, the We the People, 18 students attended, third place overall. Uh, West Carolton High School orchestra also received a superior rating. Um, for the seniors, there's 57% have completed their FASA >> and I'm hearing it's National School Counselor Month. And I want to thank all of our school counselors for the great job they do. Emily Earl, you've been great for years in your job. Um, when my son was there,

139I can't tell you how many times I heard the name Emily Herald. Um, great job and you're you're just continuing to shine. Thank you. Uh, Stacy Turner, congratulations. Um, Stacy uh has a son my son's age and she was always such a kind and helpful person. So, I can see why she received this award. That's all I have tonight for the high school. >> Okay. Thank you. Mrs. Robinson Thompson. >> Yes. Not great everything, but ditto all the competitions and especially shout out to Miss Earl. My husband's first name is Earl. So again, my new best friend and I love CTE, so that's really great. Um, I do want to say I'm so glad that Miss Janine highlighted this. Um, it's funny, but not funny. I received a couple text messages myself about the stuff

140going on on social media and I didn't even know about them. They knew they informed. I was like, "Oh, okay." Um, but I just want to say that um, ditto, I hope everyone really Thank you for the how the district of course responded on social media. Um, and like I literally had a parent that works with me that told me that she got a, you know, a text message and everything like that. So, um, it's unfortunate that it's need to be done. It really is. It's a distraction. Um, and you know, but I just want to say I want to call that out, which nobody else has, is that thank you so much for being on it and providing information. It was even highlight tonight, um, with our communication. So, I really appreciate that. Um,

141I attended the fast for night. It was, you know, we had, oh, who knows? We had a historic snowstorm and so, um, the turnout wasn't the best because of that, but, um, it was interesting like we left, um, some people we were leaving and they were still working, um, with our translator, which was a that was a if we, you know, just one if we can just help one new family, one new scholar um, apply, I say it's a win. And we had about and I was there the whole time, but I know there was like about four or five families that came through while I was there. And it was great to see. We had Kentucky State that was there as well. It was one of the partners I saw that Dr. Jordan added

142on there. Um and then um looking forward to traveling um to Central State on Sunday for the royal lunching. looking forward to our young people getting a chance to connect with others that are homecoming kings and queens and student leaders in the in the whole region. Um, and then lastly, happy Black History Month. >> That's all. >> Okay, thank you, >> Mr. Monday. >> Oh, boy. All right, so I only got a few things to say, right? Um, I do want to start I sent that email. Thanks, Lori. I sent that email. She's doing this thing to me so the camera can see. um of the basketball wheelchair and all that. So hopefully you guys were able to take a look at that. Um it's such an interesting thing. Of course, I'm not the best

143videographer, but at least uh to get you guys a little bit of a side of what could be. So I wanted to talk about that. Um so hopefully we can kind of talk about that some more. I wanted to uh to thank Senator Blackshere. Um I'm given the recognition uh for the we the people um team. The constitutional scholar award is really exciting. We the people group has been absolutely stellar. Really every year they do a really good job. But this year especially, I mean it's really really cool to see um them go the extra the extra mile there. And uh we the people is my favorite class. So I always have a heart for um everything that comes with that. And so I do want to recognize uh Mr. Blackshar for that. Um also

144wanted to mention um oh well of course everyone else said it. I'll also say all the kids, the basketball kids, the BPA, robotics, we the people. It's amazing how many good things happen in this school district. And then of course you you mentioned the social media. People try to talk about bad things and bring in negativity especially when it's not true. >> And um I just hope that we continue to push for the good things and show that we are a great school. We are a school of excellence and we earned that and that's something that we push for and uh so just for everyone there um I know Evan was on the uh agenda. I I remember when I was in high school he started and I just wanted to thank him. uh he

145had a fresh mindset and uh he definitely put in a lot of work especially in the beginning there um trying to get things set up and he helped me a lot and in our partnerships when I was in the high school so I wanted to recognize them for that and then I know the NHS I don't know I think you I think you guys talked about it yesterday about the alliance club event the Saints Patrick's Day dinner >> oh yeah >> so I don't know the people that are signing up for Well, to all the folks out there, um, it's March 14th is the Lions Club dinner. Um, and it's always nice to have our >> Yeah, St. Patrick's Day. Yeah, >> it's our St. Patrick's Day dinner, I should probably say. Um, and it's

146always a a good community event that we do. And I always want to thank um, publicly thank NHS for being involved in that and kind of being our waitresses and waiters. Uh, they do a really good job there. And then of course like always I like to end it with a quote and uh I wanted to talk about kindness and this is by William James and it is at the core of the human personality is the need to be appreciated. I think anyone who says that he does not have a need to be appreciated will probably lie about other things too. And that's all I got. Thanks. >> Okay. Thank you. Um I just want to congratulate all the kids. They did such a a wonderful job. all you guys over here. There was a

147tennis kid that you me mentioned. Um and uh you know they they do wonderful things and it would be nice if we would have more of the parents that would uh support them in this. Uh I know we have a lot of supportive parents but then we have others uh that are not. So um Mrs. Earl, you have outdone yourself once again. So thank you very much. you always hear from me promoting the tennis team. So, >> that's what I'm here for. [laughter] >> You do a great job and the kids love it. Um, I always like to get everything that they do on the morning announcements and and everything. So, and now you don't have to go up to Wilson Park anymore to get to us. We're going to be right over there. [laughter]

148>> That's a wonderful thing. Um, and on that note, um, if you're wanting to do a spring sport, you need to get your final forms done. Get it get that physical form turned in and get signed up because I know softball, baseball, uh, tennis, and uh, track is is going full speed uh, right now. So, do that. And last but not least, good luck the robotics team. So hopefully we do well. >> And basketball. >> Boys senior night is this Friday. >> Oh, boys senior night is this Friday at 7:30. >> Girls senior night is February 14th. >> Okay. February 14th, girls. All right. >> Also this Friday night >> at 2 p.m. >> See, winter sports are starting to wrap themselves up. Okay. >> Um this evening we have an executive session. So I

149will entertain a motion in a second, but the board will not conduct uh any official business after the executive session. So now I will still move. >> Second. >> All right. And roll call, please. >> Mrs. Shley, >> yes. >> Mrs. Gibson, >> yes. >> Mrs. Miller, >> yes. >> Mr. Mundy, >> yes. >> Mrs. Robinson Thompson, >> yes. >> And that concludes this part of the meeting. Thank you.
