001All right. >> Good evening everyone. Uh, welcome to the West Carolton Board of Education meeting. Uh, today is December 17th, 2025. Roll call, please. >> Mr. Gibson >> here, >> Mr. >> Here, >> Mrs. Miller >> here, >> Mr. M >> here, Mr. Sh >> here. >> All right. Can you please stand for the pledge of allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for it stands one nation under God indivisible with liberty and justice for all. >> All right, this is going to be an exciting meeting. So, I know uh we're definitely getting into the spirit >> spoiler alert >> and everything. There's a lot of first happening, a lot of lasts happening. So, we got a lot going on. It's going to be a good good meeting.
002Um I'll start off with some introductions. Um we'll start start at this wonderful table over here. We have Jack Hey, our business manager. We have Miss Robin Jordan, which is our curriculum instructor. >> Doc Dr. I would never doctor. >> Yikes. That blasts, you know. And then, uh, we have Miss Becky Yurman, which is our director of student services. Devin Barry, which is our director of human services. Moving right along. You know what? I want you guys to say your names. It's just special for me. >> It's my last time being able to have them say their names. So, you guys want to say your own names? Hello, I'm Ava Cronin. >> Hi, I'm Haley Schuster and I'm a senior. >> Hi, I'm Daniela Rodriguez Vasquez and I'm a sophomore. >> Hi, I'm not. >>
003All right. And then heading down this line, we have Lori Gibson. >> I am. >> That's our that's one of our board members. We have Dr. I never forget Andrea Townson, which is our superintendent. Um, my name is Dy. I'm the president for my last meeting here uh at the school board here, which I'll be here next year. Can't get rid of me just yet. We have Miss Leslie Miller, our current vice president. And then we have we have Angie Shockley, our board member, Ryan Sloan, our treasurer, and then we have a very special special day for John Lenon, which is his last time being here as our board member. Uh, sadly he won't be coming back. So, I'm sure we'll have a lot to say about that as the meeting goes along. Um, but
004with that, um, I would need a motion in a second. >> This is for the agenda. >> Mrs. Gibson, >> yes. >> Mr. Mrs. Noah, >> yes. >> Mr. Mr. >> Yes. Okay, we have no comments relating to public agenda items. Uh, so we'll move on to the communications update. Mine, >> good to see you. >> Happy holiday everyone. >> So Denise is getting a little ready. I wanted to tell everybody um we're having an issue at the elementary school. >> Jack, I think you know you need to be made aware. >> Um, yeah, we're having a little health issue. We've called pest control. >> Okay, is gonna talk about that this evening. So, here we go. >> I hear you've had an intruder in your building. >> Yeah, I've been trying to go through
005the cameras and see how that >> I managed to get a picture yesterday. So, any other comments about that? the bottom of it eventually. >> So, as you can imagine, the kids have been having a lot of fun with that every morning. So, our elf apparently he's doesn't have all his hair. He's about, you know, a little over six feet. Um, you know, if you're missing an elf, please give us a call. So, I wanted to remind everyone the ways you can stay in touch with what's happening in the school district. West carltonschools.com is our website. West Carolton City Schools. You can connect there on Facebook. X at WC City Schools, Instagram, WC City Schools. And I'm sorry that S is hanging down. We're having a weird connection from my computer to your so I'll
006make some adjustments. And westchools.com an adjustment issue. Um the red arrow just follow that you can find schools. Click on that. You can then choose your school. Go to that for all the upcoming events that's happening. Factor or fiction. I did this last time and I wanted to give you another visual of that. So we've heard the school district has plenty of money. They're building new schools. But the fact is the state is paying 81% of the co-unded cost of construction. So when you look at those pictures, you can see that light blue area on each school. That's what the community paid and the state is paying that larger portion. Um another school district just passed a levy and the last operating levy was passed November 2016. So again, the words are a little messed
007up here on the slide, but the building bond issue was passed in November 2019. That's what allowed us to move forward with building new schools with that co-unding from the state that also locked in their 81% commitment. And although it's all garbled there, the operating levy that pays for the daytoday operations. So, an operating levy and a bond issue are two different things, but sometimes I know it gets confusing. December dates to know December 19th, the second quarter ends. That'll be the end of the first semester. Winter break December 22nd through January 2nd. And the students will return January 5th. >> I'm not going to read through all this, but these are just some of the accomplishments, a short list of what has happened in the first quarter right now, excuse me, the first semester.
008And I can tell you if you're a student here, a staff member here, a parent here, community member here, you have a lot of reasons to be proud of the Pirates. Athletic Hall of Fame is going to be coming up January 30th. That will be at 6 PM at the high school. The ceremony is prior to the basketball game and then the inductees are further recognized at halftime. At this point, I don't have the names of the inductees, but we will be putting that out through social media and on our news page. Here's another reason to be proud of our pirates. The student council, they organized an annual blood drive. They collected 68 units of blood that exceeded their goal by 115%. And that also can save 159 potential lives. This is something it's called
009unity in the community. Universal One Credit Union sponsors that and every other year my or West Carolton gets to give money to the charities of choice. This year it was and they chose Care House to give $1,000 to and the Pirates joined them at their gym during a basketball game to present that check. >> So the Pirate Pride Award, that is somebody you can connect to on our website. It's right there on the front page. If you know someone you would like to nominate, please do so. And I wanted to give you a sense of what was happening with pirate pride award this year. Um, who can forget Ben when he got his pirate pride award? You would have had to have seen it. Um, Satie Porters, she also received one. The boys cross country
010team. We've also had the boys soccer team cheerleaders recognized recognized an out of state band because they choose their song. >> And we've always um been this and we even have a test recipient. >> We've been doing this for a while and Nate received his I don't know how many years ago >> and so ever since then a certain board member always said my son has one. >> So guess what? >> You're still >> I'm not crying because of this award. I'm crying because I haven't seen about my son's here. >> Well, he we've been working behind the scenes to surprise you. >> Pirate Pride Award. You've been recognized for showing pride in West Carolton City Schools. Uh thank you for your dedication to students and the pirate community. MHM. This is weird because one
011of the one of the best things about being a board member is you get to give your kids their diploma. I have two kids. My daughter's in Georgia. She graduated first. And I didn't realize when I got on the board that that was in the theme. After Michaela got hers, Nathan said, "Well, you have to run again because they're four years apart. So you wouldn't get it from me if I didn't run again." So this is this is stinky. >> It's Christmas and you're going to paid. >> Don't blame Don't blame him. It was all my fault. >> You're going to Thank you very much. Appreciate that. >> So, as I said previously, tonight is John's last night as a school board member. He has served the board at least eight years. How long has
012it been? >> Eight years. >> But he's also very instrumental in Pirate Packs, which provides food for our students on the weekend. So, we really appreciate everything he's done. in those eight years and supporting our pirates. So, we're so glad I am so glad we finally got your pirate. >> Welcome to the club. >> I'll treasure it. >> So, as always, be safe, be respectful, be responsible, be kind. That's all I have this evening. >> Thank you so much. >> Congratulations. >> Wow. Yeah, the celebration just began. All right. Well, we'll start with our presentations. We'll move on to points of pride. Longorth >> came over to the other side. All right. Hello everybody. My name is Grayson Sheny and I am here today with some first graders and we wanted to share some songs
013from our concert called Sense the Season which was all about our five senses. So we have our two favorite songs about tasting candy canes and hearing jingle bells. Are you ready? I'm going to be over here. So you just watch me. Pepper. Peppermint candy cake. Red and white and sweet. Tasty candy. holiday treat. Don't you think that you candy? Red is white and sweet. Tasty candy. You're so ty. Peppermint candy cake. Red tasty candy. Perfect holiday treat. Yum, yum. Okay. Well, we Eaglebody after all. Daddy goes out. You can tell everybody I feel >> that's Hi, I'm Shannon. I'm the art teacher. And >> do I need to start this? >> So, you can be heard. >> I'm sorry. >> And there's a clicker there. >> Okay. So, if you guys don't mind just staying
014there, they're gonna say something. >> Hi, Sammy. >> All right. >> Oops. Okay. Thank you. >> All right. So, we started off the year learning about the element of line, which is the most foundational thing in art. And we did a lot of practice with different kinds of line projects. These are my first graders. They had a lot of fun just making um all different kinds of lines and then making it pretty all kinds of colors. kindergarten we made um smiley face um we used lines for like um to make a sun from a smiley face and then they got to use um watercolor to go over the crayon so it made a resist and they loved that. >> All right and our very first um official project was based on the artist Pa Mandreon
015and my first graders learn all about vertical and horizontal line and a lot of them um incorporated diagonal lines too, which I was fine with, but they really liked this project. >> And then kindergarters, we learned how to glue in the art room because that is a skill. Um, so we made those the collages that are behind them. Each class had a giant um line that they they made and when we put them together, they just made a very long colorful line. All right, first grade we continuous line, which is kind of a game to them because we put the pencil down and they don't lift it and we counted to about I don't know, we counted for like a minute and it was kind of challenging for them to just keep that pen in
016the beaver, but they took that line and they made all kinds of really great um artistic creatures and things with it. You can fast forward to the next one, please. And these turn out so wonderful because they're so creative and they just made these pictures all kinds of scribbles basically. >> I love these. based. They were based on the artist. >> And then this was a this was a yearly favorite. Um we went on to shape and first graders I gave them shapes to trace and they could do basically anything they want wanted as far as creating a robot. We looked at robots and just they had to make kind of their own robot like what would your robot do? Would it help you clean the room or maybe make pizza for you? So, they
017just had a lot of fun. I'd like to take them home which I'm kind of sad about because I would have loved to have held on to these and displayed them. >> And then Mrs. Austin's class. I think it's coming up. Um her class added a um writing um unit with it as well. So they got to write about their robots. And then kindergarten we talked about shape and we made based on Brous. >> And then first graders we kind of put everything together with line and shapes and pattern and we made um artwork based on Yayoi Kusama who is called Queen of polka dots. If you've ever seen her artwork, she was super fun. So, the kids really they loved learning about her as well. >> And then kindergarten, we moved on to a
018book called Rounds and Love. It's just such a really nice book about um ground things in nature and outside. And so we based this project on that book which was um a twoe project. They got to paint coffee filters which had a little bit of process art which they loved. >> Oh steam night. So um students got to use marbles. We took a marble ball on the top and a cardboard box lid and they ran a marble or a magnet underneath and got to mix paint and um see what kind of do with the magnet. >> And then we're finishing up with color wheels. We just finished this one today. So, my first graders are learning about the element of color and how to mix primaries. They did all those colors with yellow, red, and
019blue, and they got to mix them. So, kindergarters got to design was a fun little project more cutting and gluing practice. >> Thank you. >> So, we brought a couple pieces. I'm not sure who's gonna say something. Um I think Reagan volunteered. Do you mind going first? Okay. So this was her favorite project. She wanted to say one thing about it. >> It is this. Where did I cut yours? curious was gonna pump how he how he made the um I think the part my two favorite parts are the like the sides and the like socks. >> Great job. Those are great. And then do you want to talk about the color wheel or do you want to just say what you like about art? >> Okay. So, what what was your favorite part of
020working on the color wheel lion? >> You like drawing the lion. >> Thank you. And >> Jackson, do you want to just tell me your favorite part of coming to art? >> No. Miles, did you part? >> My favorite part of coming to Wall is that I get to >> Thank you guys so much. Does anyone want to say anything as they leave or you guys want to save this for the end? >> You guys did so good. Thank you so much. >> You guys were absolutely amazing. >> Wow. >> Thank you. Yeah. Yeah. Jingle Rock. >> Not the traditional songs. >> I heard the beat before. >> You heard that before? >> Everyone's gone, man. >> Well, Evan, I thought you were going to have a full crowd. Uh, >> every time I feel
021like the cutest thing in the world is right in front of me. >> Yeah, you got lot to >> I just assume that every single board meeting is has something that cute in it. So, so the athletic update for um this board presentation um kind of catching us up. We've we were here um to present the Pirate Pride Award. So, we did some of the stuff there, but I'm never going to pass up the opportunity to brag about our student athletes. Um I kind of put this picture up here just because it's been snowy and I couldn't see the feel the the turf at all this morning when I came in and now it's all melted. So, um this was one of the drone shots that we had taken. Um you know, we'll the goal
022is to put everything up on the website to kind of see the progress. Um it's just beautiful. I mean, it's it's absolutely beautiful. Um so, fall sports recap. Um, for football, we had five student athletes named honorable mention all league. Uh, James Baker, Caleb Bugner, Joseph Ingram, Joey Madson, and Thor McKenzie. Um, and three of them are currently playing varsity basketball. Caleb, Joe, and Thornton. Um, all very big athletic kids. Um, it's it's great to see them excel in multiple sports and in the classroom. They're all great students as well. Um, Joe and Caleb were honorable mention all Southwest Ohio. Caleb um ended up being I believe fourth in the league in total sacks. Um one away from the school record for a season with six sacks. Um he's a sophomore. He's a very big
023sophomore, but he's he's doing great things. Um so for volleyball, we had two student athletes named um honorable mention Ali, Aubrey Fulker and Katie Moore. Katie's a freshman. Um, very exciting to see the future there. Boys soccer. Um, you kind of hit on this. This is my I think my favorite picture I've ever taken. Um, Jeremy scoring seven goals and he started the year as a defender um on the soccer team. So, um, great kid and Learius um, as well uh, second team all league and Derek was second team as well. Um, great recognition. It's hard the southern schools because the coaches all vote for it and the northern schools are all the soccer powerhouses. So to have three kids on first and second team um is very exciting. Girls soccer. Um Emily Simpson was
024second team all league. Um she is I'm working on digitizing the um athletic hall of fame so all the records right now. Um I have not gotten to girls soccer but I can almost guarantee she's going to be the alltime saves leader. um she has been a three-year starter um and will have one more year to get even more saves. So, she may be flirting with the OHSA record for total number of saves by the time she graduates. Um Sophia was an honorable mention as well. So, again, it's it's great to have our student athletes recognized cross country. Um this group was here last last time I was here. always like to brag about them, the coaches and the great work that they did this year. Michael was second team all league and Cooper was
025second team as well. Um these are based on the league finish. So um you know we have one of the the cross country powerhouses um in the state in our league in Tip City. um their their runner that won our league meet won state as well and um I was at the regional meet and he was over a minute ahead of the next person and this >> kid is flying. I don't even think I could run that fast in a sprint. So, uh he's going to Oregon which is so to get to get two kids up there is is very exciting. Regional qualifiers. We touched on this last meeting, but Cooper, Yahir, uh, Michael, Isabelle, and Tyler all qualified for regionals up at Troy. Um, girls tennis. Deja was all area academic. Um, third team
026all area. Um, Andrea was all all area academic. And Brooklyn was all area honorable mention. Um cheerleading. Again, we've we've kind of touched on these ones before as well, but um first team was Serenity and Morgan. Um second team was Bri, Deja, other Bri and Jila Williams. So, um Deja was so second team all league cheer and third team all area in tennis. Um very impressive and she's what top 10 in her grade in GPA as well. So, very bright student athlete. >> Um, middle school cheer. Um, >> third place and second place in game day, which is which is great. Um, same thing for the high school. Uh, doing great things in a very tough and competitive um, cheer contest. Morgan Harry. Um, I don't we don't really have cheerleading records in our in
027our record book, but she'll probably be the only person to ever win the Miami Valley League jump off. I'm assuming three times, but she finished second her freshman year and then won it last year and won it this year as a junior. So, um, very impressive and she's been winning them at the the competitions they're going to outside of the league as well. So, um, new school records, kind of touched on this last one again, Jeremy, seven goals. Um, very exciting. And then this one was in the past, uh, two weeks, maybe it was last week. Um, oh yeah, 12 a week ago. So, um, Sydney Griggsby is a senior on our girls basketball team. Um, great student athlete. She had 26 rebounds against Piqua. Um, she had she was >> it's all it's all
028hustle and she um she's had a couple of very very big games. Um, so it's very impressive. And this the picture on the right is um she was named to the all tournament team in our tournament we played in up at Northridge to start the year. Um offseason updates. So um for people that don't know, we are really pushing offseason programs right now. Everybody um is pretty much in season year round and we give them the opportunity. So, um, baseball, softball are going right now with our strength and conditioning coach, track and field as well. Um, boys tennis, girls tennis. Um, this is this is basically leading into my slide where I send people to the website for information. We will have every single workout with coach contact information on the athletic website. Um, volleyball
029has not started yet. They're starting in January. football has started, but they are they kick it into high gear in January. Um, soccer will be having lifting starting in January as we um try to replace some coaches. And then cross country is kind of tricky on here because I'm trying to send all our cross country kids to track because some kids don't do both even though it's the same same exact. Well, not exactly. One's on a track and one's running out other places. So, athletes of the week. Um, as a little disclaimer, we only do athlete of the week when a majority of our teams are playing, or else we'd have five football players to end our fall season, um, just because they play so much longer. So, Darius is on here, had a few
030big games there. Caleb Buckner um sophomore um Cooper Hensley won athlete of the week and it actually came down to him and Michael and I told them whoever finishes higher at their meet in the on the weekend um and Cooper beat him so he earned athlete of the week. Deja got it for tennis um as well as cheer. Um it's hard to not throw that in there. Jeremy obviously Chenise Bennett again this was the big the big cheer push with how well they were doing this fall and continue to do right now as their season continues. Emily is just a rock in the back which um you never like you don't understand how hard how hard it is to find a a goalie that can just be that consistency for you at the very back.
031Um she's a great student athlete very brilliant as well. Um, this starts the winter ones. Sydney, obviously, she she received it actually before she broke the school record. Um, and then Joe Ingram had I think he has one or two games this year where he has um 20 rebounds in a game. Um, and and they're playing great. They played a very tough tip team last night, but they had a four game win streak going before that. So, they're doing well. Um, this is the slide I was talking about. West carpirates.com. Um we have a few events coming up to keep an eye out for. Um we're going to do a PE cheer camp um in January and they'll perform at one at halftime one of our basketball games. Um athletic hall of fame end of
032January as well. Um not allowed to announce who who was inducted yet, but we will have I believe two people um going in. Um youth volleyball. This is is something new that our coach is going to do. Um I believe it's fourth and fourth, fifth, and sixth graders. They're going to give them opportunities to come in and um train with our coaches um starting in March. So keep an eye out for that one. Cheer tryyouts as well. We just approved the dates. Um that's going to be in March and we will put out a bunch of information about that. Um and lastly, one of my favorite things that we do is um weighted team GPA ranking. So basically if you play two sports you're going to count as both. Um so we'll have you know
033football cheer versus basketball cheer which is you know there may only be one or two different girls but um whenever we do these at the uh end of season awards all the all the student athletes take their phones out and take pictures of it. So um we like to brag about how well our our student athletes are doing. So um we'll have first semester ones coming out soon. Work work on those over break. And just another one of these one of the picture just to kind of cheer everybody up here with this with this weather we got going on. Um just absolutely beautiful and very exciting. So that's all I have tonight. >> Wow. >> Incredible. >> Jump off. It's basically form for who? It's like toe touch and it's height and like jump off.
034Yes. >> Yeah. She's only lost one and she lost that. I think it was to Deja Lost that one time. >> Deb and I are competing. >> At cheer competitions, they have like a badition. >> This should be a jump off at the basketball game they do between >> the teachers and the kids. >> Yeah. Oh, it's >> You should do that. >> No, >> I'm good. should be involved. >> Tear a hamstring in front. I can't jump, but that's included. >> You could do a toe touch. >> I can't do a toe touch. >> We'll get up there. >> Yeah, do a rebound competition. I know what that is. >> Thank you. >> Thanks, Heidi for that, but I know. No, I uh I did basketball the Saturday basketball game and I walked with
035the ball cuz I didn't know what to do with it >> and they kicked me off. I don't know if any of you all remember this. They kicked me off for the rest of the I was done. That was bad. I >> I played for a good 15 seconds. They they they taught me to just block it and then pass it to somebody. But I didn't I didn't block anything. They pass it. >> You took it. Someone hit it out of their hands and it went into my hands. I didn't know what to do. So, I'm walking around like this. Really wasn't. >> And uh, of course, I don't know if it's still the case, but at the time, the students were also the coaches and George Joseph, love him to death, uh, banned me
036from ever being played. >> Yeah, I was dumb. >> Video, let alone the rebounds. >> You would be welcome to come back and play. starred on the staff. >> Yeah, you can be on the staff. >> I'm pretty sure he still want >> Yeah, I think I'm also banned from the staff sadly. >> Still works for the district, so you might >> Yeah, Jordan still. >> I think the band's lifetime sadly. >> Yeah. Needless to say, the two athletic hall of fame folks, one of them is not me. I can tell you that right now. >> All right, we'll move on to the business portion of our meeting. It gets super exciting from here. Um, item number nine deals with some uh treasury items, right? Thank you. I ask the board approve items 9A through
0379D as presented. >> So move second. >> Any uh further discussion? Uh the financial reports are five months July through November. Uh the the Russell demol demolition bank account that's just a requirement. from OFCC that set a little bit of money aside for a vendor um relating to the demolition of Russell. And on the donations, three of the donations were for the food drive and one of the donations um was for robotics. >> Great. And definitely thank you for the donations. That's cool. >> Any other discussion? >> All right, we move on for Mr. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Miller. >> Yes. Yes, Mr. Sher. >> Yes, >> Mr. Gibson. >> Yes. >> All right. Item number 10 deals with multiple personnel. >> Good evening. >> Superintendent recommends that the board approve the following personnel items
03810 A through 10J. >> So move. >> I'm sure you have some things to add to this budget. >> Uh definitely one of them. Sandy. to congratulate her on her pending retirement. Uh she is our longest tenure teacher in the district. >> So um she said she's going down in the building. >> 36 36 years. >> So congratulate her. We see her please. And of course retiring and I think all the central office is nervous um because uh the job that she does consistently um at work every day uh questions um since I've been here any question that I ask we can always answer um full of knowledge and and you know institutional knowledge of community knowledge so she will be uh sorely missed so we have to appreciate the time that we have left
039with her and uh Kim Connley will probably not be back. Uh so I wanted to um congratulate her on the career that she had here. >> Jack, did you have anything to add? >> No, I'll say Diane Sullivan, she's a longtime computer lab coordinator here in the district and she is stepping aside the end of January. That's uh we'll have to some tough shoes to fill there. Diane's done a little bit of everything in her time that she's been here. And Bruce Canard, bus driver and longtime resident of West Carolton. Um, he will be retiring. I think his wife is making him now. So, um, he retired from Huber Heights as a bus driver, came down here, drove for us for quite a few years, and now he said it's finally time to to hang
040up the keys and do whatever Pam tells him to. Any other discussion? >> We're not going to have any other central office retirees, right? >> I was I will say I'm a lot younger than she is, so you know, I can work later. >> Did you turn that off, Denise? >> Yikes. All right. On that note, we'll call for a vote. >> Just want to personally add Deon did a great job um regarding his comments uh regarding Nikki and she's um just done an absolutely incredible job and she will definitely be missed. >> Thank you, Mrs. Miller. >> Yes, >> Mr. Mon. >> Yes, >> Mr. Sh. >> Yes, >> Mr. Gibson. >> Yes, >> Mr. All right, moving on to item number 11 with some work. >> Item 11, the superintendent recommends that the
041board approve the following personnel items 11 A through 11 C. >> So move second. >> Anything you'd like to add to this one? Seems pretty typical. >> It is no further discussion. We go to a vote. Mr. Yes, Mr. >> Yes, >> Mrs. Gibson. >> Yes, >> Mr. >> Yes, >> Mrs. Number 12 deals with revising a job description. 12, the superintendent recommends that the board approve the revised job description number 115, uh, director of innovation and strategic initiatives as presented. >> So, move second. anything to add to this one? >> So, we adopted this job description in 2022 and the two small changes and it were the removal of >> and school which we don't use. >> Right. All right. No further discussion. We'll go to a vote. >> Yes. >> Mr. G. >>
042Yes. >> Mr. W. >> Yes. Mr. >> Yes. >> All right. Item number 13 deals with another job description for you. >> The superintendent recommends that the board approve the revised job description number 211 accounts payable specialist classified human resources administrative assistant. >> So move second. Our desire was to come up with the possible longest title that we could and we succeeded. Um, no, it is a description an accurate description of what we need in the position. So, it's a combination of two jobs um instead of hiring two people to do those jobs. >> Nice. >> Appreciate that. Any further discussion? Good. All right. We move for vote. >> Mr. G. >> Yes. >> Mr. Wild. >> Yes. >> Mr. Miller. >> Yes. >> Mr. Mother. >> Yes. Mr. Shock. >> Yes. >> All righty.
043Item number 14 deals with assignment of administrative personnel. >> So, I'd like to recommend that the board approve the placement and or assignment of the following administrative personnel in the following position and the following step effective December 18, 2025. So move >> second >> anything like that. >> Um actually this is an exciting um change in the position. It's Dr. Jordan and she'll be moving into this role to really focus on our secondary um career teched programs for our kiddos um building. I mean there's so much that goes with this job. So I had it in 2022 when Mr. er was still here and was very beneficial to the district and I was hoping to keep him but then he received the principal's job. So I lost him and we have a need for this
044at our secondary level especially with our buildings moving together. So I'm very excited. is exciting especially with community engagement to see a big influx of that because I know I'm pretty sure we can say the board but that's that's been a focus of ours is trying to get parent involvement community engagement >> especially at the secondary so >> so yeah that's exciting any further discussion questions >> she's the people >> there you go people person all right we'll move on for a vote then Mr. >> yes >> Mr. Yes, >> Mr. M. >> Yes, >> Mr. Sh. >> Yes, >> Mr. G. >> Yes. >> All right. Item number 15 deals with the the daily rates for substitute teachers. >> Superintendent recommends that the board approve the following daily rates of pay for substitute teachers
045effective January 5th, 2026. >> Second. >> Anything like that? I believe my second second year in the job um we requested that we adjust the rate because we fallen behind at that point. Um so that's it's about 8 to nine years ago. Fallen significantly behind the uh the other 16 or the other 15 school districts in the area. So um looked at all of the school districts, looked at their rates and found an average and moved us closer to the average or I'm suggesting that we move towards the average. >> The second part is what we've discussed in the strategic plan that there is a teacher shortage. Um and the rate uh the rate the retirement age or years of experience has been reduced from 34 to 32. So people are eligible to retire earlier
046and we tried to put in a piece to entice some of our teachers to come back and substitute to kind retire as well. >> Very nice. Well, it's nice to hear that we're using the strategic plan already. >> I think that's really good thinking. So, does this mean that we're kind of in the middle again? Like, do we move back to like be a little bit more competitive in the middle of the pack? >> We are. We're about in the middle, but uh I think we are going to put it off for a while and uh others are are probably going to move again, >> right? >> Um but using Ryan's recommendation, one of them is tied to our daily pdeium. So, that one will move slightly when teacher pay increases in our district. The
047others have to come back in maybe three, four years, >> see what happens. >> But with everything going on, just in general, I'm sure this is helpful to try to bring people in. >> The more the better. >> Any other discussion? >> All right, for a vote. >> Yes, >> Mr. Yes. Mr. Yes, >> Mrs. Gibson. >> Yes, >> Mr. >> Yes. All righty. We're moving on to comments and reports you guys in between breaks. That's what I have. >> You have staring at me. >> Anyway, so the software just got to go to the CTC brush. I got to go, which was very exciting. We got to see all the different programs we chose and it definitely helped some students see if they wanted to go or not. And that was good because some
048say I thought it was going to be for me, but it's not for me. And then some said, yeah, it's definitely for me. So that was really interesting. And then all the students were very happy we got the twohour delay. So thank you for that. And it's exam week and then you're off for two weeks. >> You're welcome. >> And again, >> and then one more thing. You guys see this thing right here? >> All three of us have a person who we think >> we have a list. >> We have our suspicions because nobody tell us who it was. Here's some more. Um, so our first One is Miss Leslie. Our next suspect is Miss Angie. >> These are our honorable mentions because >> we didn't know who it was. So these are our
049main John or Jack. >> So we're not sure, but these are our suspicions. And if we didn't guess the right person, >> Deon, you're right. >> Not you, Deon. >> Not you. >> Wait, was it you, Deon? No. What is it? >> They're cookies. They're cookies. >> Oh, they're cookies. >> And they're WC >> coconut cookies. >> Someone would spill. Who >> knows how to make? >> There's a lot of us that know how. I think most of us know how we did. >> That's right. You would think most of us because >> not everyone. >> So my favorite bakery is by ourselves or not. Thank you. elf on the show. >> Suspicion cuz he looks very smiling. Our treasure. >> He does have a baking streak in him. >> He has a baking >>
050does not sell those. So, I I didn't get it. >> Okay. Now, I'm going to press the mic to Okay. So, last week on Thursday, um we moved our toothbrush drive that we were going to do um before our last break, I think, um actually, and we decided to wait and um do a little bit more advertising so kids could know about it um and participate. And we did that last Thursday and it was a really good turnout. How many questions? >> Yeah. So, I have pictures. We were going to present them with I forgot to set you guys. >> But yeah, we have we gave out boxes and boxes and boxes of toothpaste and they have um our um car closet business card um stapled to them. >> But actually had to go back
051to the car closet. This one was full. This she started off withund >> she started off with 100 toothbrushes. had go back to the caring closet twice to get more toothbrushes and more toothpaste. >> Actually asked us for some which was nice. >> I think we got out to >> cuz we were we had we started off with some toothpaste as well but we ran out of toothpaste and some people were actually asking us if they had more. So I definitely think and then as far as donations go um we're doing really good on clothes. We have a lot of We're still getting a lot of donations that aren't always um kid appropriate. So, if you're we're just more like not things that kids want or um teenagers want. So, >> are adults. >> So,
052if you're considering donating, maybe just think about what you're donating a little bit more. Um and we get a lot of random things too that are not clothing items that are not related to us. So, um just keep in mind that we're carrying closet, not good. But um we for real though we do have a lot of greatations and the closet looks great and we are serving quite a few people and >> we're still very >> Yes. But yes, we truly are thankful for all the people that have helped. Um Judy Brooks is a big help and she donated um gloves and stuff which I is very helpful. Um something that we are really in need of are all the little to Those are very um a lot of kids like those. Um >> definitely
053>> travel. >> Yeah, the travel size, anything are really good. If you um have a dentist office and you want to donate toothbrushes, that's where we got all those from. Um toothpaste, things like that. Um those are always really good because we can give them away and kids really need stuff like that. So that's pretty much it. and exams and how >> I think you're you're all forgetting about what you did last week. >> Oh yeah, it's been that long list. Come on. >> Yeah, we went to OSBA and we presented about why you should have student boards and why they're important. I think it was really successful and we talked to a lot of people and we reached a lot of people and um we had a lot of questions. Um we answered and
054I think it went really well. >> Yeah. And we had um we worked with the different schools through our round table and so um >> we got closer with them and just how they do their student board rep stuff and things that we could add. So after a um the Miami kids encouraged us to make like Instagram accounts. So we have a Karen closet account and a board rep account on Instagram that we're just are like setting up meeting ready. So we'll probably show that at the next meeting. And then to tie in with the Karen closet, I went after school and we have a lot of donations and me and my sister went through them and a lot of it we could keep which is really good. So yeah, I'm excited about the parent
055closet. Um we made a new checklist so we can tell what sizes they're taking and how much they're taking with us from them. So that's really good and hopefully we're going to be putting them out soon. And then another thing our school did was we had a dodgeball tournament last month for a break. And not to brag, my team won. >> That's all. >> And you raised $450 for the food pantry, didn't you? >> Yeah. >> With the dodgeball tournament. >> And then also, um, I'm officially being there was a vacancy, so I'm officially being appointed tomorrow. So hopefully they vote me, but somebody else is >> they could just all say >> vote yourself. >> There was one more thing that happened that was quite momentous for the OSBA. The our West Carolton van
056>> transported the Miami kids with West Carolton kids to promise and back. Wow. We actually cheered. >> I know. We like them. We have photos every >> Yes, we have photos. >> We are on Instagram. >> Hey, we're moving >> rivalry >> and and we're continuing on into January. reps will be going Zoomville at that point in time because of the the lovely weather that's already started to come uh come into play. But um we're going to be looking at what they can consider uh a focus point at Columbus. There are so many bills and so many things that are out there right now. So that was kind of your charge to look at everything and uh all of us will come back together and figure out what we're going to tackle at that point.
057>> Do I have So first of all, um I wanted to thank Denise for updating. She added the meetings onto the website, the videos, the on the few that were missing. She got this cut up for us. Um, I wanted to tell the choir what a great job they did at the West Carolton tree lighting. Do you have anything for the stair refs? We're still okay. Nothing for students are okay. >> Hey, you know already. We'll get back to you. Okay. As far as I did want to tell you that when I was at the um CTC board meeting, um there were other board members who are at OBA that were talking about um the your your class and how great you guys did and and things of that sort. So, it wasn't us other
058schools not this too. Um so yeah I just want to let you know that on the board they were talking about it also. >> sorry we have a lot to say today. >> No that's great. >> All right. Um I guess next would be committee reports. Any committee reports? >> Yes. >> Who else? >> Gibson >> G I feel committee or something. I don't know. Um, so CTC um the last meeting um not a whole lot that had to do with just um West Carolton, but um something that we touched on here even was the blood drive. Um they did a blood drive. Now keep in mind they're a very large school um especially when you count satellites and stuff. They actually donated 5,146 units of blood. Each unit can save three lives. So that
059is 15,438. >> Wow. Okay. Um and then here was some statistics that they shared that in the Dayton area 18% of the blood that is donated comes from high school students. >> Whoa. Whoa. >> Yeah. So almost 20% comes from high school students. Um and just in case you're wondering because I know this is being seen by so many folks. Um, to donate you only have to be 16 years old. Um, you have to weigh at least 110 pounds. I hopefully I can get that one. Um, and you have to pass a health screening. Um, so, well, I think it's great that the high schoolers are doing that much. Um, older folks, we need to step it up a little bit. Um, no. And then, um, I have a question for you. You said you
060went to CTC. >> Yes, I did. Um, is is that something that all the sophomores go to or just something that's you sign up to go do? >> No. Um, everybody gets to go. Um, even if they don't want to go, they get assigned a program to go to. And if they like it, good. Because they didn't sign up for anything. If they didn't, >> you didn't sign up for anything, but you will. Well, the reason that I asked that is that um they did they were talking about the sophomore um open houses and that um this was last Wednesday. So the Thursday before that, don't ask me the date because I don't have the calendar in front of me and I don't even know what today's date is. Um they had had so we're
061less than a week actually about five days. um they had already had 1,50 applications for next year after only opening up um for five days. So it's it's something that's really going well. Um and then the only really thing um is that they received the Thomas Edison award which is a STEM award and it was given by Governor DeWine. He was there and presented it to them. So that was >> what happened. >> Very cool. Um just wondering we still do the blood course don't we for graduation. >> Yeah. >> So to all the students watching because you know there's many of those. Don't forget to donate I think it's three times still right to get your blood c. So >> and to all those parents donate blood too >> even though they don't get
062a blood. Uh any other >> pass out? So >> I know uh I got a phone call saying that I saved my life. So >> yeah, if you're 16 and if you're order I know the blood cord is a really really neat thing because that was that was a major is donating blood and I end up getting blood and then >> I don't anymore but next >> sorry I donated other time and effort all right any other committee reports I don't know anything um and I know I have things probably but I don't have anything in mind so move on comments from the superendent Um, first of all, I'd like to wish our retirees um, farewell. Um, especially to Nikki. She'll be missed in central office as well as Sandy who's going down with the
063building. Um, it's hilarious. Very funny. Um, and then I can't believe we're almost to second semester. This first semester has gone by so fast. It's been a great semester with the kids. Um, I'd like to everybody have happy holidays. But last but not least, I'd like to thank John for his eight years of service. You've been a great board member to work with and very supportive of our students and um the district overall. And I just want to say thank you. >> All right, Brad, you got anything? Ditto. regarding everything Andrea said, um, regarding John, um, personally, I just appreciate your support over the years. Um, you've done a great job, um, for the district and you will definitely be missed and we we all wish you the best and really really enjoy working for
064you and with you. Best way. >> Okay. Um, no comments from our associations. So, we'll move on to central office. Uh, who wants to start? Deon. Um, yeah. So, I just wanted to uh wish John a farewell. Um, I've always been impressed with the the work that you've done with powerax. I think um that was one of the things when I got here 13 years ago that Connie Henry talked to me about and I think the work John and many others have done is very commendable. Thank you for always being professional and asking good questions that need to be asked. You're welcome. >> All right. >> Sure. Want to repeat what Evan said. John, thanks so much for everything you've done for our students and families. when I you probably the first board member I
065really got to know when I came on principal and just you know super supportive and very passionate and the pirate packs I got to see firsthand how how helpful they were for a lot of our kids especially younger kids over the weekend so I can't thank you enough and you'll be missed uh Sandy and Nikki also congrats big congrats and Sandy I don't know often refer to her as the goat in terms of when it comes to special education um and the amount of kids she's touched. Then she if you many of you might not know but she goes above and beyond and is one of the only teachers that will um support some of our most um our students with the most significant disabilities that are homebound. Um so that's going to be some
066huge huge shoes to fill and Definitely going to miss her. See her every day in the office. She's congrats to her though. Welld deserved. >> Dr. Dor, >> I just want to echo what everyone's been saying. John, you know, I know I haven't been here long, but you've been so kind and welcoming, and you know, thank you. Just appreciate you so much. And I'm so glad you get to go home. That's going to be amazing for you and your family. And so, thank you for all that you've done for us. We just appreciate you so much and we're going to miss you and um it's shoes that can't be filled, right? But um we're always going to remember you. So, thank you. And congratulations to Nikki. You know, just even in the short amount of
067time that I've been here, she's amazing. And she's another one of those folks, you know, when people leave, they're irreplaceable, right? These are human beings that you just can't replace. And so, she's amazing. And I've enjoyed getting to know her as well. She's incredible. And I just want to say I'm really excited about my new role. I appreciate you all trusting me with this. I'm honored and I'm ready to go. I'm pumped about this. And so, thank you. Thank you very much. I appreciate it. >> Well, John, I talked about you last week or the last board meeting, so um so I I'll check that one off the box, but thank you anyway. Appreciate you. >> Thank you. Okay, >> I appreciate you. Um, I won't talk about the retirees because I know that I'll
068still see one quite a bit. Um, on that one, um, the part that I'm going to struggle with is when I forget my cup of coffee, my phone, my hearing aids, my my notebook, my computer at home, I don't know who's going to bring it to me now. So, I guess I'm going to be turning around driving back home for so I kind of like that part of it. But, um, it's, uh, it's been great having her here working with her and stuff. So, and the other retirees, anytime somebody could put 36 years in, I know Sy's been here for a long time, and she's been wonderful to work with. I can't tell you how much stuff, um, how close, especially when I was in transportation, how close I work with her. Um, she'd call
069me up to come over and repair wheelchairs. Don't listen to that, okay? Anything we could do for the kids, Sandy was all about that. And that was great having her around to to do that. So she will be missed on that one. >> All right, we have no general comments from the public. So we can move on to board members. Let's start with Angie. >> Now it's your time. >> Okay. >> Yeah, just keep on going. >> Um I first wanted to um congratulate um Bruce and Nikki. I know I worked with Nikki on a couple projects for um payroll deduction for organizations we were involved in and she was always so pleasant to work with Sandy. She was amaz I remember being on PTO at Chanel and she always organized the Thanksgiving dinner the
070kids would do for everybody and she was so fun with all all the events she planned and wished the and John good luck as well. or John the sorry this John's last name drive the bus driver >> pardon >> was it the bus driver or Bruce Bruce >> Bruce Bruce okay >> and John I I want to wish you the best of luck I know you and I in the beginning there didn't used to see quite eye to eye over the years but now since I've joined voyage I've really gained a huge respect for you and your dedication to the students and your care and concern for the students and I respect that a lot. Um, and then I want to thank tell you guys I took a tour of the high school and the
071two through four building over break. My son was in town and Jack was kind enough to take him and I and my son's girlfriend on a tour and alls I have to say is wow. It is amazing. Also, I wanted to say it's season to be thankful and how thankful I am when for all of the staff and the teachers of this district. I really realized it as we were touring the buildings and I heard stories my son was telling to his girlfriend about certain people and I plan to reach out to each of those individuals that in the district. But first, the one that is here tonight is Jack. >> He the first story he told his uh girlfriend was um the story of you taking this little fifth grader out onto the fe
072the um grass in back of Chanel and helping him create a kickball field for the kids. His student council he ran for student council in fifth grade. He was the student council president that year and his promise was to build a kickball field. I think Jake was probably thinking of a couple plates and a couple balls. So Jack took him outside. I stayed inside. He went out and with Jack and he led him into a full-blown kickball field. Dirt brought in from the city and he remembers that and he as one of the big things that he was thankful for of staff members. So, thank you for that. That was that was just awesome hearing him at 27 talking about that. >> So, I do want to reach out to the other staff members. Um,
073of course, he talked about Mrs. Mner brick too, but that probably was just funny memory. So, But uh other than that, our district really creates memories, lifelong memories for our students. And we hear so much negative. I think sometimes we need to hear these positive stories. So I do plan on reaching out to all those individuals about the stories he told. So thank you. So I'm thankful for all of you. >> Wow. Well, thank you, Mr. Law. >> And I just missed school. So >> you got words? Well, I have high school report, too. I just want to hear that, too. Okay. >> You want to turn your mic on? >> Uh, we had 64 seniors who have completed the common app for college. Uh, two common app workshops were held on September 30th and
074October 2nd. 28 emails with college scholarship information to date have been mailed out to seniors. All seniors were invited during the school day on 109 10 and 1010 to complete their part of their FASA applications. Uh 74 seniors have completed their FASA which is 41% of the senior class. 32 seniors have been accepted to a college or university at this point and meet regularly with and they meet regularly with seniors to plan and prepare for the next steps. We've the following universities have already come to the high school to meet with students. Ohio State, Miami, Whittenberg, Ohio University, Bowling Green, and Rio Grand. They've also had visits from Army, Navy, National Guard representatives, and they've had buses to take students to the University of Dayton and Wright State campuses. Uh they had uh This year
075they've had 555 positive referrals to date from teachers and staff regarding um students doing good things. Uh and we had two students who performed at the Dayton Phil Harmonic Orchestra on December 7th. And they also had the NHS Christmas party which was a huge success. And their students of the month, ninth grade Evan Turner, 10th grade Kelly W. 11th grade Britney Mendes and 12th grade McKenna Mcun updates. >> Um so ditto on all of what everyone has already said. Um I went through a lot of my stuff already. Um John, we are going to miss you tremendously. Um you have been very helpful. president when I came on. Um, you gave me the information that I needed. Um, just always solid and um, I appreciate that for you. Um, appreciate that from you. Um, I
076can't tease you about your pen anymore. So, there's that. Um, and my final gift to you is that when we finally get to the point where we are so moved to get out of here, I'm going to let you do it. >> Wow. Wow. >> Right. That is my final gift to you. >> Merry Christmas everyone. Have a great Christmas. Have a happy new year. Um and the next time we will I will see most of you will be next year. So see you next year. >> All right, >> Miss Leslie. Well, um I everybody has talked about I want to congratulate the retirees, especially Nikki and Bruce and Sandy. Um I know Nikki's gonna keep her her days filled full of fun things to do. And >> the whiteboard. >> Well, you know, she
077could collaborate with Pam because I'm sure Pam's going to have a list this long for Bruce to do. >> Um So, it yeah, fun times ahead there. Um, I wanted to wish, of course, everybody merry Christmas, happy holidays, happy new year. Um, John. Okay, so we didn't start off on the best, but we have come a long way. I regard you as that little brother, that that ory little brother that I never had. And in keeping with tradition, as I know because I've been here forever, >> me and forever. >> Gift. There you go. >> Gift. >> Yes, that is the uh >> I wonder what it is. >> Parting gift from West Carolton. >> Look at that. >> Much prettier than this one. >> Now you can trade. So, we have this ongoing thing
078between the two of us because he has a big Georgia fame >> and I Florida. >> No. No. Well, Florida's terrible this year. So, there I I can't even go there. >> However, my other school IU is going on. >> Yeah, maybe. I don't know. I can't really say go dogs. >> There you go. >> Look at that >> little says this says Wisconsin City Schools Board of Education 8 years. >> Good luck to you my friend. Keep in touch. >> Nasty little brother. In a few years, I'll make the trip. I'm still alive. >> I've been here forever, so that's going to take a while. But and and then the the thankful thank you for becoming my good friend. >> And uh and I on that thankful thing, I'd like to thank our bus
079drivers because our bus drivers were the best this fall. 19 and uh they brought us pizza and cookies and all kinds of things for my kids um when they needed the most. They've been out playing all day long and I really appreciated all of them and I know that they have a a rough road to drive these days with all of the inclinate weather. So, thank you to the question. That's it. >> Fantastic. Well, John, typically it would be you and then me. Um, that's not going to be the case tonight. I'm going to go before you. I'll let you say the final words. Um, okay. Where do I start? Uh, sorry. I don't like I love board meetings. I don't like these ones because uh I get emotional. So, I'm trying to try. Okay.
080All right, guys. Now, I'm just going to cry because you're so mean. >> I'll start off. Uh, I I will say it is such a bummer that I missed your guys' so class. I heard incredible things and uh to see that you guys continually can make an impact on other districts all across Ohio from the most rural parts of Appalachia to some of the most in-house districts just packed with folks. Um, you guys really did make a difference and it's amazing how few kids can change the hearts and minds of board members that can change the hearts and minds of their people and their communities. So, just be proud of yourself for that. It's just so cool. I think I might have talked about it last time, but I I'm so sad I missed it
081for that delegates meeting. >> You know what? You're right. Well, I think I said something about it. You were you were there in spirit. >> I was there in spirit. Um I I had that delegates meeting which by the way was the best. I love that delegates meeting. >> Did they have the parliamentarian? >> They did which was super cool. The the process was amazing. And to be able to fight for um our values as a board was truly an honor. >> It really was an honor. And uh so I hope I can do that again because I absolutely love that. That was >> I think a lot of people don't like it, but I'm kind of a nerd. >> I'm kind of a policy nerd. So it was just super cool to see uh
082what we can do to fight for our values and to kind of guide OSBA to go forward values that we seek as a board, which is really important. Um, she's telling me to hurry along. Uh, >> I did it quietly. You didn't have to announce it. >> Look, I'm getting there. Uh, retirees. Um, now she showed it to everybody. >> The retirees. Um, I'm just going to do everyone else there. I also like I really like thanking people for the donations. Like that's awesome that people can gather up money to donate so that we can do more as a district because you know with everything else that goes on money can kind of get tight. So I really do appreciate that. Um I was also going to mention I love um being the president this
083year. I of course looking back on it I wish I could have done more. Um but we did a lot of great things. We had a lot of big accomplishments this year. really none of it is me, but it's us as a board and uh I'm I'm proud of us. We do a really really good job. We're a very coherent team. Um and I'm happy that I wrote this down. I'm happy that we uh are continuing to focus to remove obstacles, promote spirit, and to increase education. >> And uh that focus has uh I think has been successful. So, and that falls all the way down to from us all the way down to our admin to our teachers, to our parents, to our students. Um, it was just really, really cool to to be
084able to see that from my point of view. So, I absolutely love that. And for some reason, I wrote this down. Uh, I'm going back to Sinclair for college. So, >> yeah, if anyone >> Yeah, I'm going for a degree. I don't know why. I'm like, >> yeah. So, hey, >> so for any students out there, I don't know. >> Never too late. >> Yeah. Never too late. That's exactly true. You can always go back and go for a degree. So, uh yeah, it's >> You're in your 20s, right? >> Okay. Yeah. 25. >> I had my quarter life crisis. So, I I decided I decided as a reward for my quarterly life crisis, uh I'm going back TO THE OFFICE. YEP. SO, I CAN'T WAIT to see what happens during my midlife crisis. >>
085Because you went back to college. I thought that was because of your hair appearance. >> What? >> Your hair. >> Are you talking about my grand? >> No. >> This is all right. >> All right. >> We're We're going to be coming to a close on this meeting. And then there's John. >> Awesome. >> Um, I wanted to start off. Uh, I was talking with Joe. Joe Cox. >> He's not here too. >> He is. >> No. >> Uh, no. >> I'm not going to lie, I tried really hard, John. Um, but Joe, uh, he had something going on, but he wanted to send his love to you. Um, he did want to be here today, but he couldn't make it for some reason. I can't remember, but he wanted to send his love to
086you. Um, there's a lot of really cool memories that I have with you. Um, it's funny you said little brother. He's kind of a big brother to me. Um, I remember in high school I was going to Centerville schools to get information on student reps and bringing it back to you. Um, so that you could see what the student reps were doing because I don't know, I was in high school and I had nothing better to do I guess than to go to center board meetings which was ridiculous. >> I wasn't playing basketball. >> I definitely wasn't playing basketball. Uh yeah, that's for sure. Um I just remember going to those meetings and I mean watching you and Leslie too, your guys' passion for these kids here and to see the growth throughout those years.
087It's really incredible and it really pays off for the community because we see it with our caring closet and the things that we do. Really cool. I remember you went with me to pick up my petitions for the board of elections and then I didn't get enough petitions so I didn't make it out of that. But uh I was very lost in that moment. I didn't know what's next and I appreciate you being a guide for me. That's it. I got all this. >> It's up to you. >> Please take it. >> I got some good stuff, man. Yeah, >> write it down. >> I got some really good stuff back here. >> You're a special man. And I'm going to bet you just know I love you, brother. >> And you do a lot
088of really good things and you have a a very strong passion for these kids and especially your kids. and it shows every day. And to say the least, um, I aspire to be I'm not a father, but when I do become one, hopefully, uh, I aspire to be a good dad like you. No. Your turn. Okay. I thought this would be hard. It is. I >> I forgot the quote. >> Oh man, this is a good one though. >> My favorite. >> So chose one of my favorites. >> We'll finish it with your >> We'll finish it with the quote. Yeah. You talk. Well, give me a second. Your turn. >> Um, I I am I'm a little bit overwhelmed. This is from Nathan coming in here to to that. Sorry, >> I can't see
089myself. I uh I I'm not sorry that I am stepping away because I'm also making a lot of changes in my life. So, there are things besides this that are changing, but I certainly have enjoyed being here. And for Angie and Lorie and Demetri, is that how you say? Um, one of the things that I struggle with when I start is you guys been here a little longer than you, but is ideas you have when you come here and things you want to accomplish, things you wish would happen that aren't. get here and it's hard to be patient sometimes and there are things for the most part that I wanted to do in eight years. It took eight years to do some of them but um I just encourage you guys to whatever it is
090you want to see happen and there's a lot of good things happening here don't give up on it keep working some things will happen and some things won't but overall from eight years ago to now ecstatic at what we come here and it isn't because I'm here but I'm glad I'm part of all these things that are happening and everybody in this room is really after the kids leave we're all just the ones left are you're you're the diamonds in this place you're the reason it goes the way it goes and I'm going to miss all you guys and I know the district's in good hands and the board is solid You certainly don't have to look far to see boards that aren't. You don't have to look far. You wouldn't have to go 50
091miles from here. You find plenty of school boards that enjoy turmoil more than they enjoy success. And this is not that kind of board. This board is in tune with each other and don't always agree. That is not necessary that you always agree, but it is necessary that you work as a group. This does do that. So, I want to thank you for your kind words and and I know one of the things I appreciate about you being here is that you have a passion right now. You sit next to the student reps and um I know Adrian and Leslie are kind of spearheading the student aspect of this but you're right there cheering right with them. So and so was Nate for that matter. So I'm really really glad to see where that's gone
092and I know a left. A works with me at the movie theater and she's and Haley, there's one senior on the table there. I won't get to see you graduate unless I make it to the ceremony. But congratulations for all you've done in the district and for the leadership in that closet. And the only reason I almost cried when you talked about the caring closet because that doesn't exist without students and it's It's impressive what you're doing with it. And not to take a dig on Centerville, but I guess I will. They have a they have a thing that when they reached out and helped us, they were so really gracious. And one of their board members who doesn't serve on the board anymore was kind of their leader for their student reps. And they
093had this candies for comments thing. And when you mentioned the toothbrush and toothpaste, I felt We're going a step beyond that because when you have candy, you need to brush your teeth. We're really helping with the next level. >> We're going a little further. But that's just awesome that brushes. Terrific. Nate, I'm really impressed with the board. One of the youngest still probably one of the board members certainly are one of the youngest in this entire state. I appreciate you coming and I I appreciate that the effort you put the passion. You have a lot of passion as a as a student spirit leader in the high school. That's one of the reasons you were so easy to to reach out to to help with the student process in the first place because you are
094passionate about everything you do. so much just I for Leslie um when I got elected and Joe came with me I don't think either one of us were um there was a whole lot of I when I was up there earlier everybody here stood and that really I almost made me pride to see that because when I first got here that is not something I would have seen would have happened when I left. Um but Leslie you just a really good close friend. I I sure didn't see that coming either. But you just don't know, you know, you just you you have people come and and they have a desire and a passion and sometimes it's a little rough around the edges and you get to know somebody and you find out they have a
095lot more in common with you than you thought they did. And when it comes to the two of us, we have a lot of common goals that have happened I don't know if that happens. >> I really appreciate you so much and I don't want to see your Gators or your Hooers do well. >> Georgia's going to lose to if they lose in the playoff, you're either going to probably lose to Ohio State or Indiana. So hopefully that don't happen. dogs when when Angie's sitting here because we had a vacancy and when there's a vacancy on the board, there's a an attempt to well the first time she got elected, but first time she was sitting here when there's a vacancy there's a a call to the public to apply and we have interviews. And
096when I saw you were one of the people we were going to interview, I was I wasn't sure you would get it obviously because you have to interview everybody. But somebody out out and we're really we're really stepping it up because you are one of the people in this district that everybody really respects and cares about and knows loves this district. So I'm so glad to to leave this board as strong as it is. It's really a strong that is right and I just everybody your kind words and have a great 26. >> All right, we'll end this with a quote >> and cupcakes. I guess there's cupcakes. >> Is that what's in the bag? >> Is that for everyone or >> All right. Uh, >> this is >> Yeah, someone illustrate this. Somebody. >>
097We'll be friends forever, won't we? Pooh asked Piglet. Even longer, Pooh answered. Winnie the Pooh ate a milk. >> A. >> So when you move and leave us, don't forget friends as a district. >> Second, someone get me out of here. Mrs. Gibson. >> Yes. >> Mr. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Miller. >> Yes. >> Mr. >> Y. Mr. John. >> Yes. How can
