All right. >> Okay. Good evening. Welcome to the West Carolton Board of Education business meeting. Today is May 21st, uh, 2025. Roll call, please. >> Mrs. Gibson >> here, >> Mr. Wild >> here, >> Mrs. Miller >> here, >> Mr. M >> here. >> Mr. Sh >> here. >> All right. Can you please stand for the pledge of >> allegiance? To the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands. One nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. >> Pass it over to you, Leslie. >> Yes. Thank you. Um, you're probably all wondering why we're all in green and there is a very special reason why we are. We lost a beloved teacher and we would like to her favorite color was green and she served
at both middle school and our intermediate school and we just wanted to honor her and we'd like to now take a moment of silence. Thank you. >> All right. So, we'll move along and we're start with some introductions. Um, actually, I might do the introductions a little backwards today just because might as well. We'll start with you, Ryan. I feel like you're always last, so I want you to be first. We have Ryan Sloan, our treasure. And then moving right down the line, we got Angie Shockley, board member. We got John Lalen, board member. We got our vice president, Leslie Miller, if I can speak today. Uh, I'm also a board member. My name is Bumpy. And then we got our Dr. Andrea Townson. We have Lori Gibson, board member. And then our wonderful student
reps. They'll always introduce themselves. It's a good tradition. Hi, I'm Christa Barnett. I'm a senior. I'm Haley Shustar, a junior. >> Hi, I'm Danny Rodriguez Vasquez and I'm a freshman. And that's why we we do that. And then moving right along, we got Deon Barry, our director of human resources. We got Miss Becky German, our director of student services. We got Miss Julie Jones. Good to see you, Julie. our director of curriculum. And then last but not least, we got Jack Hey, our business manager. So, it's good. We got a we got a full full team here today. That's really nice. All right. So, we're moving along uh to the agenda. Can I get a motion second for the agenda? >> So, we second >> because we don't have any amendments. We have no move
for the vote. Mrs. Gibson, >> yes. >> Mr. Wild, >> yes. >> Mrs. Miller. >> Yes. >> Mr. M. >> Yes. >> Mr. Sh. >> Yes. >> All right. We got uh no comments relating to the public and no communication update. Um I hope the best for Janine. She feels a little bit better. However, we do got a presentation. It's going to be from our very own on our points of pride. >> Thank you. So today's the wrap up of our state of the district which is combination of all of our points of pride as Mr. Monday said. So, I've tried a new software this year. I'm doing it in Canva, which I love. So, if there's any glitches, I'm going to apologize up front. Um, there was some timing slides in here. So, anyway,
student achievement. Um, these are some of the highlights from the 2025 school year. We have the governor who was here for the reading award. We have our BPA students. Um, spotlight for senior spotlight. Um this is middle school as well which is the first time they um second student achievement. We have Ohio boys and girls Buckeye state representatives. Um we received a five-star award at Russell Elementary School this year for their achievement last year. We have science awards and then Mr. Reynolds is down at the bottom for their Franklin B. Welter lunchon which was recently um held our state report card for last year. We had four stars again in progress. That is really the highlight of the report card um with is closing the achievement gap there. Sorry, kids are making more than one
year's growth. And this is a summary of all of our subgroups with our highest performing subgroup of all students and then the lowest performing subgroup of special education. However, I know Mrs. German's working on co-eing this coming year and I think we will see some great improvement. This is our most current IR data. Usually I present the data from the middle of the year and the beginning of the year, but we're almost done with testing. The big red bar is the high school. They don't really test a lot of students at the high school and I already um the green top bar for each school and I know it's very small. Shows a lot of growth. And the highlight on this one that I really want to point out is the third school down. and
it's the amount of growth made at the early childhood center which is fantastic. Um the bars the green the darker green with the black bars in it that is above grade level. So 44% of our students have moved above grade level and then 26% are on on grade levelish a little higher actually and then 26% grade level. So this is some good information. They are still testing some of them are completed and then the Same with math. ECC is the highlight here. Middle school is still testing down at the very bottom. So, I'm going to call it a work in progress. So, they should finish tomorrow is what Eric told me. So, hopefully I will have those scores tomorrow. Um, our Ohio State test data came out last night. Our ELA came out about 700
p.m. last night. So, I came in this morning to plug this in. Um, a lot of these scores have either gone it by a percentage or two, might be a percentage drop. Um, however, some of these we beat the state standards, um, the state average, which is exciting. And then the 12% in E or I'm sorry, middle school math. Um, we have a new math program that we've adopted, which I believe it's done with Fidelity will help that, but I also have Mr. Christie working plan. So, um hopefully we'll see an improvement there. The high school had gains everywhere. Um government I think was down 1%. One of those was down 1%. Very small amount. So, overall, you know, it was a snapshot in time. Um but these are our scores as of 7 o'clock
last night. So, different district data. Um I'm sure uh Mrs. Gibson will talk about our DT meeting today in her speak up. Um but we do use lots of data points um to drive our student instruction and um we discussed some of those today. I Ready, our state testing along with some of the other ones listed, Procore, we have our curriculum assessments, our kindergarten readiness assessment. Um ESGI was going to get that data today. Unfortunately, I did not get it, but that really breaks down information on the littles next door. And then MTSS, which multi-tered system of support, you've heard us talk a lot about it. Um, we did a demonstration today on how we track data for each individual kid or groups. And it's an important um way to really well and even with
the reading allies like just giving that targeted instruction that's research based to kiddos. Some of the other things that we're doing to address learning um we've almost all been trained on the science of reading if not all of us um myself included. Uh we have our new math curriculum which I mentioned and two quotes from students and these are direct quotes after the math pilot. My math is my favorite subject and it's my favorite too. So they love our new math program that we've adopted which is exciting. Um our targeted interventions. We've had a focus on writing this year and academic vocabulary which is in our one plan. MTSS which I've mentioned and some things that we're doing next year. We're expanding our reading lab model um which we've had at Schnel and our targeted
research based interventions. We've talked a lot about Panorama. Um Silera actually helps us write those. We purchased that. Um as well as the materials that we've been purchasing and the code teach model which I've mentioned which has our special ed teachers going in and helping. So, the other thing I'll be doing is hiring an MTSS coach um to help support this initiative, which is very important. I got a kick out of this one. Um, security and safety in a positive environment. Um, our officer Mo yesterday had a rough day, so I was able to send her a picture of James today. And he he absolutely loves Officer Mo and he said she knows how to talk to people and keep us safe. I can talk to her and she has my back. So I sent
her that today and that made her day. Um so we have our SRO officer Nate um at the is and we have our SRO officer Mo and we will continue to have those and both chiefs are very excited. We have our PBIS rewards and today in our DT we presented how we can use PBIS while we're working on student behavior and data um and track those interventions for kiddos. Other With the new buildings, we went from a few cameras at buildings to multiple cameras. The pictures are extremely clear. We use them all of the time. Um, our Navigate 360 does have a panic button on it um in the app. Our mental health counselors, not only do we have Samaritan, but we also have other counselors who use state and children's um and a few
others. And then our new website um which also has communication tools with parents which allows me to out emergency messages not only to the first contact but to everybody on the list or just to communicate with parents. So, it's nice. Um and then our young lady, she said she likes to participate at our PBIS parties um at the school and she likes helping at our PBS stores. So, the kids really enjoy that. Um, our other things that we do to communicate what we're doing is our district leadership team, our building leadership team, and our teacher based teams. So, all of our teachers have a professional growth plan that aligns to our one plan. Um, you might have remembered that as our CCIP, it's no longer called that. Our one plan, um, each building has goals.
There, um, are student measures, there's adult measures, we have subgroup information and we have to track that and then we have to submit our reports um and our funding to the state. So with that we've asked our teachers and our principles my principles also have to have their PGPS aligned with the one plan for the building. Um, fiscal resources, as I mentioned, are tied into that one plan. And then our BLT and our DT monitor how we're doing. And then the teachers get into their individual teams and they look more specifically at student data and instruction. Reading engagement. Um, our students have been coming every month, which I think has been a nice addition. For the most part, we've had actual students show up. Sometimes we have to have a video if something's going on.
Um, but they do a lot of great things. We've seen our STEM program, our musical. Our kids are extremely talented. So, some of the events that we've had this past year include National Night Out. Um, we have many community partnerships. Um, our homecoming parade, which is always a lot of fun. We do our weekly school updates. Our principles do building updates. Um I send out a midyear detailed written report to all of the community, not just our parents. Points of pride saying um that goes out usually in September and Artfest which was a huge success and Mr. G was just here to discuss that. And then also our new web page um which is I think much more user friendly and it looks a lot nicer. So these are some photos from that event. Um,
some other things that we've done with the community, we had the senior citizen breakfast just a few weeks ago. Um, that was a lot of fun. Mr. Wolf is there. Uh, we had about 70 senior citizens, so it was a great turnout. Um, we have our title one parent nights. Uh, reading was another big event here. Well, it happened last year, but here in the ECC, we have conference options for our parents to get more engaged. So, not only can they come in person on different nights, but they can also attend online. Um, College Promise, I've had my own mentee and um, we still offer that. So, we have one student college promise this year and our business advisory council, which some of the board members went to that meeting with me this year. And
our, you know, from there comes our job, um, you know, career, all the things the kids to do. They get to meet with the businesses. Um, and then just some changes coming up for the current year. Um, our building, they just came back from the tour the board did. So, our school is going to open for the 2526 school year. Work is continuing on the middle and high school. And then one of our students, Jeremy in first grade, he's as cute as can be. When he grows up, I want to be a construction man because he wants to build stuff like school. So, the kids see what is I think that's adorable and he's very cute. Um, and then some photos from the school year and what our pirates want to say. So, these are
different events that we've gotten photos from and they want to say when we talk to them. Once a pirate, always a pirate. Today, I had kindergarteners out in the hallway going. So, it's kind of a wrap up. It's been a busy year and um testing scores like I said are coming in literally about 12 hours ago not even um and we'll all start graduation. >> Yeah, it's pretty exciting. >> It's cool to see the amount of things that we do with the community. And I think one thing and I don't I didn't think I saw it on there but uh when the businesses come in to do like a career day or not career day >> it's a career day. >> Yeah. >> Um that's always really nice have local businesses and people come. >>
We have 36 businesses. >> Isn't that incredible? >> Not only that but just everything that you can see is really cool. >> Okay. Well, we'll move along to more business. This is a business business. That's what I like to call it. Uh so, we'll move on to number nine here, which uh is for Ryan. >> Thank you. I ask the board approve items 9A and 9B as presented. >> So, move second. >> Anything you'd like to add to that, Ryan? >> As far as the financial reports, these are for 10 months, July through the end of April. And we're running revenues are lower than anticipated, but expenditures are also lower than anticipated. So those two are kind of a wash. So pretty good shape 10 months through the year. >> Nice. Good to hear. All
right, we'll move for Mr. >> Yes. Mrs. Miller. >> Yes. >> Mr. M. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Sher, >> yes. >> Mrs. Gibson, >> yes. All right. Item number 10 uh is about a resolution. >> I ask for a motion in a second and a second that the board of education approve as presented the resolution reestablishing a capital projects fund for the purpose of accumulating resources for the acquisition construction or improvement of fixed assets and authorizing special cost centers therein and authorizing a transfer to such fund. So move second. >> Anything you like to add as we look forward especially um at the the high school property in terms of the next 12 to 18 months um items that we items that the state is not helping us with items that we would have to
pay for ourselves. Uh this this resolution would help help us um get the high school finalized and and and um just get everything done that we we want to get done as we look to the next 12 to 18 months. >> Correct. All right. Well, we move on for a vote. >> Mrs. Miller, >> yes. >> Mr. Mundy, >> yes. >> Mr. Chie, >> yes. >> Mrs. Gibson, >> yes. >> Mr. >> Yes. >> All right. Item 11 is about the fiveyear forecast which I'm excited for. Correct. >> Um I will before I ask for a motion in a second I will I I'll just go through these three pages. Um I gave you a three page three-page handout. Um you districts have to approve a five-year forecast by the end of every November 30
and the end of every May 31st. Um it doesn't you know like this the forecast doesn't I mean it's just a snapshot one point in time. So this is this is based on information that you know that we had like through Monday morning. Um things things change constantly. For example, Dr. Townsen found out uh on Tuesday morning, you know, that we we have about a $2.4 million annual contract with the McGomery County ESC for all the services they provide for us. Um and and she was told that um that we'll pro we'll probably get about a $500,000 refund on that $2.4 million contract. So >> So that's that's not factored in. Um and and hopefully that means that our contract for next year, which the board will approve at our next board meeting, will be
less than I have >> forecasted in Monday morning when I did it. So um things are things will change constantly as we move forward. Um on the first page uh just this is our general fund revenue and at the top half the blue line is our state funding, the red line is our taxes and then the green line is other um the the state funding budget for the next two years. It begins July 1st. It's in the Senate right now. Um I think the Senate will they're supposed to come up with their version by June 11th and then there'll be a conference committee the last 20 days of of June. And so we'll know at the end of June what our state funding looks like for the next two years. But, you know, based on
the fact that the governor's budget and the house budget really didn't put any additional money for the next few years, you know, for us, and based on what our enrollment's done the last couple years, just for purposes of projections, I've I've kind of flatlined our state state funding for the next, you know, out through FY29. Hopefully, that turns out to be wrong. um we have a better idea of how accurate that turns out to be once we learn in late June what the next two years look like. Um and on our taxes um there's a little bit of fluctuation on taxes, but that's just because the school year is on a July through to June basis and taxes are on a January through December basis. So, but just big picture, you know, if you look
at our taxes this year is about 22.3 million and they gradually do increase up to about 22.6 and FY29. So um so taxes will just gradually increase um going forward. Um down at the bottom you there is a decline in you know in the other revenue and I just made a note that you know interest income is a pretty significant part of other revenue and about a year ago we got a significant you know credit from the state of Ohio OC and and that you know helped us with our interest income but that money has been you know that money has been being spent as we've done a lot of construction in the last 12 months. Um so that is that's one of the biggest variables that um that leads me to have projected declining
revenue in the other revenue section. Um and that just kind of leads into the second page. Um the top half of the second page the blue line is the is the revenue. So you can see you know projecting our revenue to decrease from about 51.6 6 million to 50.3 million next year. Um hopefully, as I mentioned, hopefully the state ends up giving us more money. So hopefully the 50.3 million is too low, but that's what it is like as of tonight. Um and then you just going forward you can just see how um you know our projected revenue is is pretty flat just because there's and that's um and that other revenue which is declining pretty significantly. You know kind of keep is kind of the thing that keeps projected revenue flat. And then you
compare that to to expenses. And you know, this is pretty much what you know what what an expense chart looks like for every district in the state since about 80 to 85% of every district budget is on personnel costs. So, um, as we look forward, um, you the main thing we've been, you know, especially the last five weeks, we've had a lot of meetings in central office just trying to minimize that gap between our expenses and our revenue. Um, that like that gap will it'll get narrower just because this the ESC issue that I mentioned. So um and then the second chart is just the dollar amount of the difference between the revenues and the expenses. Um we had finance committee meeting two two weeks ago and it's like next so next year right now
it's you know this 2.6 million um so hopefully once we get the ESC information then that would make that 2.1 million. So, I mean, that number is constantly going to be changing, but um I mean, our conversation the last five weeks, you know, in central office has has just been what can we do to to keep these spending deficits um to a minimum? And um in the bottom half of page two uh the first part just talks about you know the fact that we're looking at you know having less employees next year mainly through through attrition and just pointing out that you know the forecast does have base salary increases accounted for for next year but um there aren't are not any increases factored in for the next three years 27 through 29. Um and
then there is The third item I mentioned there, it talks about the the refund from the ESC. And then um the bottom two lines there on page two, um you know, as we were just trying to get to get that deficit down next year, we did uh move 200,000 approximately 200,000 per year, you know, to the PI fund. And um in terms of technology purchases, I mean whether that can be reality or not remains to be seen, but that's the way we have it right now. And um and we were able to to save about another 300,000 next year just by looking at um well by by deferring some textbook adoption. So, um, so we've been, uh, we've done a good job the last five weeks in terms of getting these numbers down and we'll
continue to do so to do so as we move forward. And page page three is the forecast itself. Um, right now we are in FY25, which is the fourth column. So the forecast has three years of actual data and then the current year data is FY25 and then it goes out through through FY29. Um I won't really go into detail on on the third page. I mean in my mind the biggest thing as we go forward is is that is the chart on page two in terms of um just minimizing the gap between our expenses and our revenues as as we move forward. Hopefully that clarifies things. And with that, I would ask for a motion and a second to approve the fiveyear forecast as presented. >> Second. >> All right. Well, you did most
of the discussion already, so we'll move on for a vote. >> Mr. M. >> Yes. Mr. Shocker. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Gibson. >> Yes. >> Mr. Yes, >> Mrs. Miller. >> Yes. >> All right. Item number 12 deals with personnel items. >> Good evening. >> The superintendent recommends that the board approve the following personnel items 12 A through 12 I >> move second. >> Anything you like to add? I see there's a few alumni in this which is always good to see a lot of alumni. Miss LA is a was 2018 grant. >> Is there anything else you would like to add? >> No. Um but well maybe congratulate that should be our last for the year which will be 13. So congratulations All right, we'll move on to a vote. >> Mr. Sh. >>
Yes. >> Mrs. >> Yes. >> Mr. W. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Miller. >> Yes. >> Mr. M. >> Yes. >> All right. Item number 13. More personnel items. >> Superintendent recommends that the board approve the following personnel items. 13A through 13 I. second. >> Anything you' like to add to this one? >> Um, no. Just making sure that we're putting everything in place for summer school and extended contracts. Um, some of our employees work a little bit beyond the 184 days that teachers work, even though they're in the same union. Um, the jobs require them to go beyond 184 days. >> All right. We'll move on for a vote then. Mrs. Gibson, >> yes. >> Mr. W. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Miller, >> abstain. >> Mr. M this is Sh. >> Yes. >> All right.
>> By the way, the reason why I aband because you you abstain, of course, because of the coaching. >> Yes. >> I have because one of those people are actually one of my employees. So, I don't want to vote on that. All right. So we'll move on to number 14 which talks about some of the some of the steps for the principal. >> Thank you. So I'd like to recommend that the board approve the placement andor assignment of the following administrative personnel in the following position and at the following steps effective August 1st 2025. Um and it's amending board action from May. >> So move second. >> She was the list. Okay, we'll go to a vote then. >> Mr. Well, >> yes. >> Mrs. Miller, >> yes. >> Mr. M. >> Yes. >> Mr.
Shley, >> yes. >> Mrs. Gibson, >> yes. >> All right. Well, item number 15 is going to be a little bit of the same as 14, just different type of staff, support staff. >> Right. So, I'd like to recommend that the West Carolton Board of Education approve the central office support staff salary and benefit schedule and placement of the following personnel in the following positions. at the following level steps effective July 1st, 2025 or August 1st, 2025 as indicated. >> So second >> All right. I don't see too many changes on here. >> They seem pretty much the same. Is there any other discussion like >> Yeah. Well, with no further discussion, we'll move on for a vote. >> Mrs. Miller, >> yes. >> Mr. Yes, >> Mrs. Sher. >> Yes, >> Mrs. Gibson. >>
Yes, >> Mr. Dwell. >> Yes. >> All right. Item number 16 deals with the Green County Educational Service Center. >> Becky, >> the superintendent recommends that the board approve the 202526 service agreement with the Green County Educational Service Center Outdoor Advantage Program as presented. >> So, move. >> Second. Is there anything you'd like to add to that? >> Nope. This is just um a continuation of you know providing services for our students with disabilities. >> Perfect. >> We'll move on to a vote. >> Mr. M. >> Yes. Mr. Sher. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Gibson. >> Yes. >> Mr. Wild? >> Yes. >> Mrs. Mill? >> Yes. >> Okay. Item number 17 deals with some of the lunchroom prices. Jack. >> Yes. Thank you. Um, the superintendent recommends the board approve the lunchroom prices for the
0362526 school year as listed below. >> So, move second. >> Has these changed too much? >> No, it's still 100% free 100% free lunches for all students for breakfast and lunch. >> So, that's always good to hear. Yeah. >> Well, other than that, I guess we'll move on. No one else has any other discussion for a vote. Mrs. Sh. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Gibson. >> Yes. >> Mr. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Miller. >> Yes. >> Mr. M. >> Yes. >> Okay. Item number 18 deals with the school calendar. Andrew. >> I'd like to recommend that the board adopt as presented the 2627 school calendar. So move. >> Second. >> Is there anything you like to add? Um, I just met with the calendar committee and we always come up with different options and this is
stuff voted for. So there's 172 instruction days for students and 184 work days for staff. There's extra days at the beginning of the year so the high school teachers can get settled in the middle school teachers in the new building similar to what we have next year. >> And then I was wondering because I saw option and I see that yours is pulled up. What does the S in the T Is that correct? >> Oh, student and teachers. >> Student and teachers. Okay. >> Student days and teacher days. And that's how we count it when we're doing it. We get into >> Okay. Because I'm looking at those calendars. I'm like, I don't know what that was supposed to be. So, okay. Good. Is there any other discussion? >> All right. We'll move on for
a vote then. >> Mrs. Gibson, >> yes. >> Mr. Mrs. Miller, >> yes. >> Mr. Yes, Mr. Chopper. >> Yes. >> Okay. Well, that concludes that portion. So, we'll move right on to our reports. Um, is there any student represent reports? >> What if there any student rep reports? >> No. Yeah. I mean, it's the end of the school year. >> Well, I do have one thing. >> We got approved to do our OSBA presentation. >> You got approved? November. So we will be putting everything together. Uh we'll start again um in August and uh so then we'll we'll have a meeting in person so everybody can meet all the new people because as you know month they change every year. Um and then the new Centerville kids and new Miamiisburg kids we will probably
have a couple new ones because we're saying goodbye to our senior. So, um, we'll, uh, we'll reconvene and then we'll start planning what we're all going to say. And for you two, because you were not with us when we did our last presentation up at OSBA, the kids everything >> pretty impressive. >> So, all of us adults will be there, but you guys will do all the talking, and if there's questions and and whatnot, you will answer. So, You guys are down for it. It's gonna be >> So, I wanted it to be a surprise. So, >> it's packed, too. Anyway, >> yes. The last time we did it, it was standing room only >> in the room and they're large rooms similar to this size room. >> So, imagine it being standing room only.
And we're very interested in they've since done there's going to be a uh well, it's already passed. They they did the OSBA u it's kind of a midyear update type thing that they do and one of the classes was on how to add student reps to your board. >> Nice. >> So this kind of plays in with OSBA. They're very much promoting this from happening. This guy started it long time ago. So we'll uh we'll build on that >> way back in the day. >> We've had we've had so many good students come our our doors, much less the kids at Centerville and these other districts, they're all just sharp as attack. So, I would add one announcement here. We um grant applications as we usually do in May. And after our business meeting tonight,
we'll be getting together to talk about the next steps to selecting our next student reps to replace Kristen. And um there were seven applicants. We had four from the high school and three from the middle school. Obviously, as we go through the process of selecting one or two of those folks, we'll make that announcement later and we'll start in the follow. >> Yes. >> All right. If I remember, did they you guys came in for interviews? >> Yes. Yes, we will. >> Okay. So, that's >> okay. That's exciting. She picked them already. I just went through Yeah, there was about 30 and seven. So, I just went ahead and picked my favorites. >> Do you guys have anything more to add? >> Congratulations, seniors. Y >> this is my last meeting. >> Yes, I think
so. Yeah, >> got a scholarship yesterday at our concert. >> I don't know how I I don't know what it was. Was it like >> I don't remember. But >> it was like um director's choice or something. >> That's good. >> Congratulations. >> There's a couple other students that got awards, too. >> Yeah, I got Congratulations. >> Congratulations. That's cool. >> Okay. >> Nice. Well, I guess is there any committee reports? I'm guessing you have >> Yeah. >> Okay. So, um well, first of all, um the CTC had a board meeting. I wasn't there um because my um my preschooler was having their spring concert that night and so >> yeah, it trumped it. It was so cute. The ants go marching and yeah, it was cool. Um, >> we knew those songs. It was
It was great. Um and then today was uh the district leadership um meeting and um so I can tell you this the majority of it was talking about tier three and data and how it interfere how it interwines and and how everything is connected. Um, but what kind of stood out to me was when you think of a teacher, you think, okay, um, they're they're doing math or they're doing reading or they're doing science or, um, maybe they're doing a little of all of those. Um, but there's so much more that our teachers are expected to juggle all day long. Um, there's the mental load, there's social life, there's their home life, there's referrals, there's vocab, behavior, learning disabilities, attendance, how are they feeling physically? How are they are they making friends? Um, how's their
home life? Are parents in the picture? And are those parents a good influence for them? Um, are their siblings struggling? Are they hungry? Did they sleep last night? Do they have clean clothes on? I mean, all these things play a part in that how our kids do at school. Um, and our teachers and our staff are just amazing and that they are juggling all of this information. And now is the time of the year where they're taking all that information and they're passing it on to the next teacher. Um and so some of these um databases and things that we have put the school has put in, it's just amazing how much this can help our kids um for the next teacher to to to not have to figure out what happened last year. It's
all in there. Um and when they're juggling so much and doing so much, um it's just absolutely amazing um what our teachers do. And you know, when you were a kid and you thought, I want to be a teacher, you know, well, I'll teach them how to do two plus two. There's so much um that that our teachers are expected to do and and are doing it in with with with grace and and such passion um because it's not easy. Kids can be tough. >> That's all I got to say about that. Um so, it was a great meeting. Um I uh I'm going to go ahead. It was my last meeting with uh Julie Jones and she will be um leaving us this year and and going on with her career. Um bittersweet. I'm
very happy for you, but I will miss you very very much. That's all. >> All right. Does anyone else? >> Um well, I sort of do. I went attended the athletic boosters meeting and they are finalizing everything with all of the coaches and and that and getting ready for the pilot pirate island fest which will be September 13th. So please mark your your calendars. Um a lot of the uh cheerleading is having a pee camp this summer uh as well as the girls basketball. are doing Tuesdays and Thursdays with weights. Um they've got girls soccer are meeting three times a week for endurance and uh a lot of the other sports are doing things and and Evan is going to our AD is going to be updating our our summer schedule uh that we have
and tennis is doing their workouts the the 9th the week of the 9th and uh so we're we're all gearing up for next year. Um, there were a couple records. I don't know. Did baseball get the record? >> It was Ben Martin. >> Ben Martin got the steals record. Okay. >> And let's see. Softball. There was another one. Was there another record broken for softball? >> Okay. So, we know then. So, we'll congratulate him for that. The steel record for baseball. So, that's awesome. Do you guys have any? >> That's funny that Ben Martin got that. The Martins, they just they just don't stop, don't they? >> Keeps happening. Such such a good family. Um, with my reports, I don't really have much. I might have been out of town the whole last week. I
will say, uh, Washington DC is a wild place. Those people are nuts. And, uh, good people, just nuts. And then, uh, Yeah, other than that, oh, don't forget NATO is happening currently. This doesn't relate to us really at all, >> but yeah, that's everything downtown is locked down hard. So, >> if you guys do want to check it out, it is going on. This really doesn't deal with the school board at all. So, >> yeah. Thanks. >> And then, uh, we have no general comments from the public, so Oh, well, wait. I'm skipping a bunch of people. >> Okay. Sorry. You want to It comes from the superintendent. >> Um, first of all, I'd like to congratulate Julie on her new position. Um, Julie and I have worked together in another district. So, I'm I'm
so proud of you and I wish you all the best. Um, also graduation is next week, uh, UD Thursday night. Today, I attended a very important event. It was kindergarten poetry day and it was adorable. Um, we will have it again next Wednesday at 2:30 in this room if you'd like to attend. Um, some notes on the budget. I read this morning that the Senate has already made 400 changes to House Bill >> as of last night. >> And 400 >> only. >> Um, so I believe by Friday is what they're hoping to have that completed. I don't know what it's going to look like. They may change us all over the place. Um and then the final thing is related to Kelly's. Um she will be missed. She has been in this district for
a very long time and one thing that we need to take forward um that Kelly always said is be kind. That's all. >> Okay. Right. Just wanted to wishes to Kristen. Um, appreciate the energy and enthusiasm she she brought to all the meetings even though she seems a little sad tonight, but >> Oh, I'm like I'm so slumped. I I did not um the the senior sleepover thing was and I did not sleep over. I just stay was awake. >> Stayed over. >> I just Yeah. >> But I'm here and I made it and I'm awake kind of. That's a good thing. Okay. >> But yes, thank you. >> All right. Well, with that, we have no comments from our associations. So, move on to central staff. Devon, you want to start? >> Just repeating
what everybody said, but thoughts and prayers are for Telly's family. very sad week. Um, and I'm also very sad that Julie's leaving, but congratulations. >> All right, Julie. >> I just want to say um, congratulations to the graduates, Kristen, and all the others that'll be graduating next week. That's really exciting. They always do a great job with graduation. So, looking forward to attending that. And, um, I just want to say thank you to the board. I may not be here throughout the end of July, but you know, just for all the that you've given me in and doing my job here at curriculum and I just really appreciate the relationships that we've built and you know all the friendships too along the way with teachers and principles. So it's it's a big part of my
career and we we did a lot of things. So you know I'll you know hold these memories you know fondly and just I'll keep in touch. That's for sure. I'm not too far away even though >> you say Greenville is out in the middle of nowhere but You're like 20 minutes from my house. >> I'm still in Civilization. >> Hey, she could have made mites every day now if she wanted to. You know, you just can't beat that. >> Just just can't beat that one. So, um, just want to say congratulations to Kristen, the graduates. Um, very exciting time for all of you. I wish you guys all the best. And, um, the next time we meet, school will be out. So, I hope everybody has a safe and happy summer, all of our students.
And, uh, get a book. Nothing else. Get a book this summer. Read a book. >> Nothing wrong with reading a book. was good. >> That was well said. All right, I said it before, I'll say it again. There's no comments from the public, so we'll move on to board members. Angie, do you want to start? >> I first want to congratulate Kristen and all of our seniors. Um, excited for them to start their new adventure, the next adventure. Um, also Julie, you will be very missed by everyone. You've done a great job here. And, um, just wanted the construction staff um building the new schools. The schools look great and what an improvement. It's going to be great. So, other than that, oh, other than Kelly's family, I reach I send my best regards to
all of them. Such a sad moment. I know we had the pleasure, our son had the pleasure of having her as a teacher. She will be missed. >> All right, John. Obviously, kudos to Kristen, our class of 2025. The graduation, as Archie Towns mentioned, is Thursday, the 29th of May, and it's at UD Arena, so there is no worry about tickets because we'll never have to fill that place up. But I love having it there because it's nice and big, and like I said, you don't need to worry about how many of your family members can come and they do a great job holding it for us. Looking forward to that. This will be the last attend at least as a board member. So looking forward to that. Miss Jones, congratulations. You certainly will be
missed and good luck to you in your venture. Um and then of course Mr. My son had her I didn't really meet her as as a a parent and she was teaching them because I guess he was doing okay. I never got a call from her. But certainly my condolences to the family. It's never easy. your mom or your spouse or anyone that you care about like like her and of course a lot of staff here are feeling the the effects of it as well. So certainly we we think about you pray for you. So um other than that the only thing I would just mention is um after this meeting we do discuss the student reps we are going to invite the our current student reps. This is one of the benefits we have
of having them here to actually talk with us. So I mentioned in an email you got that you're welcome to stay with us at the end. So just wanted to verbally tell you that before we >> for executive we just >> Yeah, we'll come back and start. >> That's all I got. >> Okay. Um well, and I'm going to echo everybody. Um first of all, we start out with My heart goes out to Kelly's family um and all the teachers here. Yes, she is the one we were wearing green for uh and did a moment of silence and it is very difficult. My own family had a death in the family recently and it it is a very hard time and uh I do uh send my my condolences and and prayers to them. Um,
speaking of congratulations to Miss Joy. Um, congratulations on your your new superintendent position up there. And I'm sorry to say it is in the middle of BF. I'm sorry. >> I've been there many times for tennis and most of the moment for me. That's where I was born and raised. So, I'm just heading right back. >> That's good. That's good that you're okay with that. >> Wide open to what I am. That's good. >> Yes. And and Kristen, you will be missed on the tennis court and in here. So, uh and I wish all the grads uh congratulations. Uh we do get to say goodbye to them all next Thursday night. Um the kids will not be in when we get back in. So, uh a safe summer. And one other mention, Marine is celebrating
their 60th anniversary on May 31st. So if you don't have any plans next Saturday, uh do go down. They're going to have amusement park rides and uh bands and everything. It's a one day only event. So that's >> nice. All right. Um so again um we've already mentioned most of this so many emotions so sad um some happy um and so I think we've we went through that the building tour was amazing um the school I think the kids are just going to be absolutely amazed at the new building and um and all the resources and all the technology that's there. Um, it was it was it was a wow moment. So, another emotion for tonight. There's another one that I want to thank, but um because I don't speak the language very well, I'm
going to have some help. Is this do you say each letter or is it SV? Um, so there Penny Stanley won that. >> Devin reminded me and so I wanted to say it out loud. Um, >> I wish I knew what it was. I wish I knew, >> but congratulations because I got an email about it and I read the email and go Penny. Um, seniors again, we're going to miss you. Thank you for all you've done with us and can't wait to see you flip it over on Thursday. Um, >> sleep the night before. Okay. Um, >> dad's proudest >> proud father >> and that's all I got to say about >> would you like to explain the SP a little bit >> yeah just for the people that don't >> SP stands for
the exceptional support person of the year award is given to um it's voted on by other staff members and their peers Um, and it's the well the top classified award for the staff that the non-eing staff here in the district to recognize those folks that either work behind the scenes or that uh we're doing stuff to help everybody else and help the students throughout the year. >> Yeah, it's a big deal. >> So, I really am sorry that I didn't know what it meant, but I do read the emails. >> Oh, that's important. Yeah. >> Well, good. Well, um That that building is special when when you walk in. I I hope everyone will have the ability to check it out someday. When you walk in, just the high ceilings and the grandiose venture is
just beautiful. Um I'm so excited for the little ones to come in. And you know, I'm pretty tall, so I can get pretty close to the ceiling. This one I'm not very close at all. So, I can't imagine what the little ones are going to think when they walk in and just see these high ceilings and all these beautiful windows and you know, everything's all big and span. And then it's really cool cuz of course the thing that was really interested in was that last year was the beam and you get to see the beam right in front of the of the uh gym and it is the coolest thing. It's so neat >> to see all the names on the beam of the kids and the teachers. You see I'm like right. >> Yeah.
Yeah. I was looking right at it. Yeah. That's that's how tall the ceilings are. I wasn't looking at it eye. >> Yeah. >> Um I'm so excited for graduation. Um I know a few of you guys are not going to like my suit. >> What? >> Again. >> It's going to look like Devon's suit. I did not get another suit. >> It had the white shirt. Who cares? >> Look, I did not get the time to get a black suit. >> Look, that's my warning to you guys now. You're not going to like it. It's going to be a disappointment. Except if Devin has an extra suit that he wants me to borrow. >> Yeah, it' be the right color cuz Deon Deon has a good style. That's for sure. Um, but I'm so excited
for graduation. Just to see all the achievement that's in these students and for it to all be in one room is always such an incredible sight to see. So, I'm so excited about that. Also wanted to give a little hint um because he didn't really mention it, which I'm not going to mention anything either, but uh the education foundation has some really exciting news and I'm so excited for the news to come out. So, I'm just putting everyone on on edge. It's really cool. So, That's all I have to say about that. Moving on. Um, and then Julie, um, you know how I get when I say goodbye to people. So, we're going to hold off on me saying goodbye to you because I don't think I'm mentally ready because it's hard for me to
say goodbye. So, but of course, you know how much just the the teamwork that we put in. I mean, not just as a board with you has been incredible. So just how grateful at least I am and I'm pretty sure the board will be agreeing just the amount of hard work that you've done and the passion that you have put into the school district. It shows and I mean you can see in the success of our students the work that you put in. So I hope you're proud of yourself of that because it is really incredible. Um, so of course you're not the only one I'm saying goodbye to because you're also not going to be coming back because you're graduating. Um, >> he's like >> Kristen. Yeah, Kristen. uh you know you have it's
been incredible seeing you especially with the presentations and stuff and I'm sure your dad knows you're on like half of these presentations because of all the achievements that you have done throughout the year and not just this year but in previous years as well. So, I hope you give yourself a pat on the back for all that you have done, not just for our student reps and amazing things that you've done with the closet and the other programs that we were a part of, but everything from BPA to the musical to everything that you have touched has made a difference. So, I hope you know that and I hope that you continue to do that as you leave us and hopefully come back for whatever you do. You know, what are you planning on doing?
>> Um, psychology. I'm going to do Um, I'm going to become a child life specialist at work hospital. >> Wow. Well, we got some local hospitals around here. >> So, Dane Children's I did a shadow there. So, that would probably be my first place. >> Well, good. Well, I hope you stay here and don't go to Timbuktu like Greenville because >> because then I know you'll never make it back. Too long of a drive. Um, so >> too far away for smoke. >> I'll see it roll. Oh man. Well, >> well to to to end this, of course, we have our executive session. We always have the quote. This one's for the graduates. Um it is to go confidently in the direction of your dreams and that's by Henry David Thorough. So other than that,
um of course we have our executive session. So the board will conduct no official business after the executive session. Um so and and that's to review the uh steering representatives. So I will need a motion in a second to uh conduct the executive session for the reps. >> So >> Mrs. Gibson, >> yes. >> Mr. Mr. Miller, >> yes. >> Mr. Martin, >> yes. >> Mr. >> Yes. >> All right, we'll go to executive session and then after that we will see. Thank
