All right. I want to welcome everyone to uh to this uh business meeting. Today is July 16th and uh not too packed of the house, but we got some really amazing people here. So uh we'll call this meeting to order. Roll call. >> Mrs. Miller is absent. Mrs. Gibson >> here. >> Mr. Lella >> here. >> Mr. Mundy >> here. >> Mr. Shy >> here. Would you please stand for the pledge of >> allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands one nation under God indivisible with liberty and justice for all. >> All right. So, we got some uh some neat introductions because we don't have as many people as we usually do. So, it's gonna probably go a little bit quicker. So, I am
probably Let's start with we'll start with Ryan. We have we have our treasure. We have board member Angie Schlock. We have board member John Lou Allen. My name is Nate Money. I'm also a board member. Leslie Miller is not here today. Hopefully, she'll be back at the next one. Then we got our Andrea Townson, our superintendent. We have board member Lori Gibson. And then just as tradition is, we'll uh we'll let our stand reps introduce themselves. >> I'm Haley Schuster and I'm a junior. >> Try again. Try again. Try again. Re >> I'm Haley Schuster and I'm a junior or I'm a senior. >> Third time. Hi, I'm Daniela Rodriguez Vasquez and I'm a sophomore. >> Now it's official. I'm pretty sure >> it's hard to say. >> And then we have uh Devin Barry,
our director of human resources. I mean, I might as well introduce you. >> He made me sit here. He doesn't want to be alone. So, >> our wonderful communications director, Janine Corv. And then I know it's not official just yet, but I would like to at least say hello to Robin, our curriculum director, soon to be after after tonight. So, okay. Well, we'll move right along um to the uh Oh, yeah. The agenda. And we do have an addendum. >> We do. We have a big hiring season. >> Yep. >> Um so, we need to add item or add to item number 10 C. Remove from item 10 D2 folks. Add um one person to 10E. Add three new people to 10F. Add new item 18. Add new item 19. And new item 20. >>
All right. Do I get a motion? Second. >> So move. >> Second. All right. Call for the Mrs. Gibson, >> yes. >> Mr. Lo, >> yes. >> Mr. Mundy, >> yes. Mr. Shocker, >> yes. >> Okay. And we we have no comments relating to the agenda item. So, we'll move right along to Geneva with the communications update. >> Good to see you, by the way. >> Good to see you. It's always good to see everyone here. Um, start out with different ways you can stay in touch with what's happening in the school district. West carltonschools.com, you're going to find news items, um, different things about your school, school supply list. That's always a big thing this time of year, but we'll get into that too a little bit later here. And we also have Facebook,
West Carolton City Schools, XWC City Schools, Instagram, WC City Schools. Just a reminder, you can enroll all summer long. It's usually better to do it now versus waiting until the last minute because everyone else is waiting until the last minute. So, it's a little more relaxed if you do it um early. And this is what I was referring to as far as getting that back to school information. This is an article on our website, west carltonschools.com under the news section. Everybody wants to know, is my school having an open house? When's the first day of school? What are the school hours? Who is the school principal? And you'll see that some of those things have changed from last year. So look at that. Also, first day of school is not the same for everyone. There
are staggered start dates for all of the schools except for the elementary. Other things coming up, a West Carolton alumni meeting will take place here July 24th at 6. High school back to school pool party at Wilson Park Pool August 9th from 7 to 9. This is exciting for everyone. Um, if you're old like me, you might remember that um they used to have a sales tax holiday for um back to school supplies or clothes and maybe it was only like a couple of days. Now it's two weeks and it is for all kinds of items. If you go to our article on the news section, you can click on the link. It will tell you what you can and can't buy. Um, you can't go out and buy a new car, but a lot
of items up to $500 if you buy it will be taxfree during that period. So, if you're planning to do some shopping, you might want to wait. This is an exciting event. We're always very excited about this. This is one of our favorite things of the year. August 5th is National Night Out. We will be there at Waxart in Marine and the event is from 6:00 to 8. Everything is free, which is really awesome. Um, there's bounce houses. I saw this year they're having a falcon exhibit. So, that'll be fun. Uh, to watch the birds. That's always a good idea. I always enjoy that. Ribbon cutting Wednesday, August 13th. That will happen at the elementary school. There'll be a short little ceremony at the beginning and then the community can come in. You can uh
go through the school, take a tour. It is really an awesome building. You're going to love it. So, mark your calendar Wednesday, August 13th for that ribbon cutting. Calendars are available in the school offices and the district office, but I do urge everyone continue to check events on the website at your school. Things get updated and change throughout the year. So, please watch for that. And you're going to be starting to get more and more information as we get closer to that first day. Texts and emails will be coming from your school and the principal. They're going to have lots of messages for you. So, um, stay in the know. Our convocation, we're going to have all these smiling staff faces coming back August 19th, immediately followed by the happy faces of children coming back
to school. So anyhow, that will be happening soon. As always, be safe, be respectful, be responsible, be kind. Thank you. >> Well, very well said. That is exciting. It seems like it's coming so fast. Summer is blowing by. >> July 4th. >> Oh my gosh. Yes. So, up next, we have a wonderful presentation from Christy Robins and Terry Morgan from OSBA. You guys will be talking about strategic planning. >> Yes. So, as you guys are walking up, just a little back history. Um, our last official strategic plan was done in 2007. >> So, um, then after that strategic plan happened, Rusty took that strategic plan, met with the community members, and did an update of his five goals for the district. And that happened in, I believe, 2014. He had arrows all over the district.
Um we had looked at doing this earlier and then CO happened and now we have buildings so we had to push it up a little bit but we are glad you were here. >> Great. Thank you. >> Well, thank you so much. Um my name is Christine Robbins. I'm director of board and management services for OSBA. I also served as a board of education member for two terms. So for eight years with Westerville City Schools um board of education. And with me today, senior deputy director Morgan who is uh has been with OSBA for seven 10 years. So she's got a lot of experience and and Terry have say just a few things about yourself. Sure. I was on four different school boards. I did the um Tangi local Delaware area career center ESC of
Delaware Union which merged with Franklin and became that huge ESC of central Ohio. So I was on boards from like the mid 90s till 2010. So >> all right. So um we have done as board members our share of strategic planning and we have facilitated many strategic plans. Um OSBA has a long history of facilitating strategic plans and working with many of the 711 school districts that we have in the state of Ohio. So we are grateful that you're having us here to talk about strategic planning this evening. just want to start. There are a couple quotes that we enjoy um that you can read for yourself, but basically um what we're talking about is developing a strategy that will help you look down the road, help you set a vision, a mission, core values,
and strategic priorities for the district. So you can identify some measurable results um as you align all of the various plans that um you may have in place currently as part of the strategic plan. So um we also as I mentioned um like to approach as facilitators the strategic planning process from a board's point of view. It's your process but we do involve the community and many of your stakeholders as as we'll talk about. So um in looking at our philosophy um what we like to share is that the plan itself an excellent plan is guides the acqu the acquisition and allocation of resources. So it aligns with your budget. It aligns with the resources and it makes sense for you to be able to allocate those resources to the priorities that you set as
a board. Um we also want to talk about the importance of building um upon current successes. So looking at the many successes that you've already had and building on those going forward as we develop a new plan and then guiding district decision making at all levels. So for me as a board member, it was it was much easier for me to make decisions related to projects or programs or initiatives that were brought forward to me uh and the board of education if I was able to look at the vision, the mission, the values and the priorities and make sure that everything was aligned and ultimately it serves as a roadmap um for future success. So just want to emphasize that um the process itself and I are going to be sharing some details about that.
As I mentioned, um we do invite participation from all stakeholder groups. We've had um what we call our core team have as many as maybe up to 70 people. Um as few as 20. The sweet spots usually around 35 or so. And there various groups that would include uh diversity of opinions and perspectives from your staff, from your teachers, um from your community members, um from the board members, but bringing in business partners, bringing in city officials, just everyone who has a vested interest in the success of the school district. Um our facilitation of the process will ensure that it's an inclusive uh process, an inclusive culture. Um Terry will suggest and I'll mention that sometimes it's best to bring in folks that may not agree with every decision that you make to get their
perspective and we would encourage you to do that. We also as facilitators and Terry and I would be the two that would be working with you um should you choose to work with us um we would make sure that we set the timeline that Terry will review. We will work with you to facilitate the core the meetings of the core team and make sure that we stay on task and it ultimately is going to result in a plan that's a measurable plan. So we talk about smart goals, goals that are specific and measurable and achievable and realistic and timely. Um plan that will build support that will involve the community and that will help you to set parameters and boundaries for um the resources that that you have. Terry's going to talk a little bit
about the core team and how this is structured. >> Sure. >> We would come in first and do a planning meeting and we would meet with at least superintendent, treasure, and maybe one board member, maybe another administrator to really define a timeline and all the different steps that are involved. And one of the discussions is how important it is to pick appropriate people to serve on your core team. And that's the larger group. You have to have someone who's committed to make all four quaries. We usually try and do them about three weeks apart, usually an evening at the most 3 hours, 5:30 to 8:30. And we want to make sure that we don't have to keep repeating, right, the work that's been done. So we want to make sure that the people are committed
to all four coming to all four sessions. At the end of the process, we do a brochure where their names will be listed so they'll get credit for being involved in that process. And these are just some of the um groups that we want you to think about and we encourage as we talk about representation of your stakeholder groups. Certainly your administrators and all of the board um certain staff members, certain teachers, uh certainly parents, students. I'm so excited to see that you have student reps on your board. That's great. Elected officials. Sometimes it's worth having maybe a county economic development director who can talk about what's coming down the road for the county which will then infect um the school district. So the planning meeting is really important to talk about who you'd like
to invite and then the superintendent would handle the actual invites and that commitment of the four sessions that they would be there. We keep a really good roster. We do everything by email. So we collect all their emails and make sure that we do um after each meeting we do running meeting notes so they know what happened at that meeting. And we find that that three weeks apart works well because it gives people enough time to think about all the conversation to think about where we are on the decision and if it feels good. We do a lot of going back and making reaffirming what the decisions were made. Sometimes in your case vision and mission are really good. So, we might want to just have a discussion about do they still feel good. We
want to at least talk about mission that you do every day. Vision is where you'd like your district to get to and then core values. And again, if you have ones that are solid, it'll be just a reaffirmation of that. Okay. So, we're good. We can brainstorm. Um then we prior to the first core team sometime between planning and the first core team we would offer a community survey and it's customized questions that again we discuss at the planning meeting what kind of information you'd like to get from all of your different stakeholder groups and we put that together as a survey monkey and then we count on your communications person to get that link out to everyone so that everyone has an opportunity to take The first core team meeting we talk about vision,
mission, and core values. But the second meeting is dedicated to the first part of it to a state of the schools kind of examination. Here's what your survey said, superintendent and treasurer. Here's where we are with our district. And then we go on to talk about critical issues. And we when we talk about critical issues, we want to make sure that we capture the critical success that you have as well as some of the challenges. So we make sure that that's a good discussion. And we always give a really thorough thorough um I guess report about what the survey found because nothing's worse than if you ask people what they think and take the survey and then you never tell them what it said, right? Then they think you're hiding all this. Oh, they said
negative things. So we would make sure that we do that presentation at core team 2. Uh this is just a little graph that shows you all the different steps that are involved in each of the core teams. And we move through critical issues to kind of putting things in buckets, developing goals from those buckets, goal statements to explain what that maybe finance and facilities goal feels like and what it would accomplish and then move into talking about strategies. The strategy brainstorming is solely to give the board and administration some ideas. We, you know, tell the core team that not every one of these things is going to be done, but it's an idea that can be put on the plan maybe for this year, next year, or future. And then we come back after you
have had a chance for the board to approve the strategic plan and meet with just that same small planning committee again to say is everything feel good. And you got your action teams which action teams are usually made up of staff, right? It's not going to be the board or the community members, but it'll be the people that actually will be doing the work. So we come back and do just a check to be sure everything's going well. We have templates that we can share so that the can live online and we make sure that you can change it at any time, right? Something gets accomplished, you think of a new thing, something can't be done, you take it off. It's always a living document. >> Are we allowed to share that online? I've seen
some districts lately doing that. And I like that it's just right out there. Yes. >> And we would say at least once a quarter, you should be giving reports from each action team to the board and usually verbally, right? you know, just a a quick five minute. Here's the things we've accomplished. Here's the things we're struggling with. Here's the things we want to do. And I know that last slide um was very small in your handout. So um in what I should have said as we began, you all have a folder that has the proposal and I believe that is included in the proposal as well. Um so um you'll be able to to actually to read the words and understand um the process itself as Terry described. So um just again to reiterate we
have a design team. The design team is a small group that we meet with for planning purposes. That would be our next step with you is to schedule a planning meeting. Um you would identify one or two board members, the superintendent treasurer. Sometimes there are a couple of administrators that are added to that group and their role is to guide the process to set the timeline to begin to maintain um forward direction as we begin to do the strategic planning. The core team as we mentioned is our stakeholders. We in the planning meeting, we talk about who you want to invite um and begin to create lists so those folks can be invited. Um and their role is to discuss and communicate and decide um the direction that uh the plan should go to be
able to present that to the board uh for approval when it's completed. So they participate in the planning process and we have some really lively discussions. It's been, you know, Terry and I have worked on several plans together and um having students involved has always been a real benefit. So, good discussions about the direction of the district. And then the action teams would be kind of post planning that we would work with you to identify um what teams to be need to be put in place according to the priorities and you would identify who would be leading those teams and some postplanning as as Terry described. So, um, we, uh, we really hope that we have the opportunity to work with you. Um, we do have some references in the, um, in the back of
the proposal that if you wanted to call some of the districts that we've, um, recently worked with, we would encourage you to do that. Um, also, as part of this package, we put together a strategic planning brochure. So, um, it is I think we have a copy of that. Yeah. So, this is what it would look like. This is Parisburg. Um, Terry worked on this uh with our former director a few years ago, but it's actually a a glossy brochure that would include um the process itself, the vision, the mission, the values, the priorities, also lists the those members. This is something that can live online and it's also something that you can print and have available to members of your community. And then you would want to um move into creating some type of
system or tool to track the plan as it moves forward. It is dynamic. We typically don't put you know an ending date. A lot of people will ask how many years is this plan going to be good for. You'll hear people say three to five, but as we know, things change and they change pretty quickly in terms of public education these days and different things that we may not expect like COVID dealing with a pandemic and and that's okay as long as you make sure that people are aware um why you may be changing priorities or why you might need to pivot. So um at this point I think we uh wanted to open it up one more time. >> Sure. Um I don't know if you have a form that you like for evaluation
of superintendent and treasurer but we have adapted our um the O says OOTES forms to include the district goals would also apply for the goals for your superintendent and treasurer and all the way down to the custodians and and we've matched those with the standards for superintendents and treasures. So it's all on one form. The reality is if you set district goals, everybody needs to be using the same goals or you're going to still be going in a million different directions. So, so it's all about alignment and looking forward to the future. And we are happy to entertain any questions. >> I don't have a question, but if we could go back a slide or two, you had the um vision this one from Car and I wanted the kids to see this. our board
reps, but they have a portrait of a jacket. Is that okay? >> Sorry. That's the only way we could get it on the screen. >> It's okay. Um, so I just wanted you to explain that to our student reps because it's important for me to have our students involved in this and for them to have a vision of what they want high school and their education. Take that one. >> Sure. Um, one of the things that we found and this was Parisburg is sometimes you already have a name for how you want your high school years to go. That portrait of a jacket they were or the um yellow jackets I think or something. But so we they wanted to keep the words but they wanted to put some meat with it, right? So that
you know that you're going to have different steps that you would go through. And one of the things that we found is so often particularly boards can kind of get removed from students, right? Unless you're a parent or a grandparent with kids in school. And so having the opportunity for the students to say, you know, we don't have enough AP classes. And so then that becomes a curriculum issue. And then is the curriculum issue a big enough to be a goal by itself? So it just it it really lends itself to being able to what the real needs are of your schools as well as the district. >> Your voice is important. >> Can I ask you a question? Um I'm looking at the suggest in the on the right side of what you gave
us to look at the suggested project timeline and um while it list the retreats and how long the retreats may last, do you typically find this takes a couple of months to move from? >> That's what we said. You'll have four core team meetings and they'll be three weeks apart. So it will take it will co at least probably three months by the time that you get those Absolutely. >> But that's what we do. We schedule far enough in advance everybody saves that one night for three hours over that time period so that we make sure again it's interesting how really good discussion can happen during the quarantine but then several will be home and start thinking about it and they won't like what the group was deciding. We've gotten to the point where we
just have to call a vote you know because you got different ideas and you've got to meld them into one. So it really it is a I would say at least two to three month project. Timing is up to you and that's what we would talk about in the planning meeting. Fall, sometimes winter, sometimes spring. It's going to be totally what fits in with your schedule. >> Nice. I also have a question. Um when it comes to the fee structure, have you seen any other school district try to I don't know, get a grant to help with this or is this always like out of >> Yeah, I haven't heard any that applied for it. Um >> because I'm like I don't even know if there's grants out there or something like that, but >>
for education foundation for that. I know when Angie and I were on the fire No, we were on the foundation one together. Um I was on the fire department strategic plan, Jack was on the reigns and maybe West Carolton's or you were on Marines, Ryan. And then we tagged into a lot of the city ones and um just looking at different companies and people who who do this I felt that you were best suited for us. >> We I mean we believe the cost is reasonable but what we think is more important is that we were board members and that we know our member districts and we do our homework and we we're not going to guide you but we're going to facilitate and keep the process moving. Every step of the process is so
important and we're not going to let you skip through those. >> How long have you two personally been doing this? >> 10 years. >> I joined OSBA as a consultant about two and a half years ago. >> Prior to that, I served as vice president and chief of staff at Otterbine University. >> But I mean, how long have you been doing the specific strategic planning? >> Yeah, 10 years. >> For I would say 20 years, but the work OSBA the last two and a half years. And I did it when I was a board member. So I was on your side. >> Yeah, >> absolutely. >> And we used OSB. >> Yeah, I was going to say for the student reps, is this something that you guys would see an interest in at least like
if you're invited to join? Of course, nothing's decided, but would that be something that you guys would want to be a part of? They're usually the ones that come up with the most insightful comments. >> Trust me, they do already. >> Interesting. Any questions? >> Okay, >> I will be in touch. >> Okay. >> Yeah. Thank you so much. >> Thank you. >> As you think about this, I'm someone who likes to process. So, if you have questions that up after the meeting as you think about it, feel free to contact Terry or me and we'd be happy to answer those for you. >> Well, thank you so much. >> All right. Thank you. Thanks for having us. >> I appreciate it. >> And I'll also say we're starting to get to the boring part
of the meeting. You guys want to say you can, but uh you certainly don't have to. >> Yeah, they know they know the exciting stuff, don't they? All right. Well, we'll move on to number nine then, um, which deals with some financial items. Ryan, >> thank you. I ask that the board approve items 9A and 9B as presented. >> So, move second. >> All right, Ryan, you want to discuss that a little bit? Anything you want to add? um regarding the financial reports. So these are the reports for the for uh the entire school year July 24 through June of 25. Um I sent you guys an email yesterday kind of just summarizing big picture how we ended the year. Um hope you all had a chance to to see that. Um and and the
the appropriations that are in here are actually for for the 25 26 year. Um so they they are just adjustments needed to the temporary appropriations um that we approved about a month ago. Um but I think big picture we ended the year um a little bit better than what we were projecting compared to the November 24 and the May of 25 forecast. So um so things are in so I mean that's that's a good thing when we end up a little bit better than what the forecast said. That's about it. >> Great. Thanks Ryan. All right. Well, we'll move for a vote then. >> Mr. L. >> Yes. >> Mr. Mundy. >> Yes. >> Mr. Shley. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Gibson. >> Yes. >> All right. Item number 10 deals with some personnel items. Deon,
>> good evening. >> Wow. >> I don't have the agenda. >> Oh, >> that's because we haven't finished it. >> Sorry. Superintendent recommends that the board approve the following personnel items 10 A through >> 10 F 10 F. >> Um on the addendum we added items of 10 C, 10 D, 10 E, and 10 F. >> So move second. >> All right. Is there anything that you'd like to add, Deon, on any of these? >> Uh, no. Just the interesting um fact we're still hiring. We have two more people to hire, two teachers. >> Nice. All right. And I see that some people are coming back as well, at least on the >> addendum, >> which is great. >> Yeah, they do a good job. So, all right. Is any discussion from us? Call for
vote. >> Mr. Mundy, >> yes. >> Mr. Shopper, >> yes. >> Mrs. Gibson, >> yes. >> Mr. Love, >> yes. >> All right. Item number 11 is continuing with some personnel items. >> Item 11, the superintendent recommends that the board approve the following personnel items 11 A through 11 B. All right. >> Second. >> Anything you'd like to add to this one? >> No. >> We'll move to >> Mr. Mundy. >> Yes. >> Mr. Chocolate. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Gibson. >> Yes. >> Mr. Lo. >> Yes. >> All right. Item number 12 deals with our agreement with St. Gita School of Death. >> I'm here for Mrs. Warren tonight who is in Colorado. Um I'd like to recommend that the board approve as presented the financial agreement with St. Rita School for the dev with
respect to the educational program for student from August 18, 2025 to May 22nd, 2026. >> All right. Anything you'd like to add to that? >> We do it every year, right? So nothing different there. We'll move on for a vote then. >> Mr. Sh. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Gibson. >> Yes. >> Mr. Well, >> yes. >> Mr. Mend. >> Yes. >> All right. Item number 13 deals with the Educational Service Center. >> Thank you. I'd like to recommend that the board enter into a contract with Green County Educational Service Center as presented with respect to the educational program for a student for the 2526 school year. So move second. >> This is something that we do every year as well, right? >> Not much difference there. So we'll move on for a vote though. >>
Mrs. Gibson. >> Yes. >> Mr. Wild. >> Yes. >> Mr. Mu. >> Yes. Mr. Sha. >> Yes. >> All right. This one I'm kind of excited about. >> I'm number 14 goes with the support of military children and families. >> Yes. So I need a motion and a second that the board approve as presented the following resolution which is attached the support of the military child and families. >> So move second. >> All right. I' love for you to explain this a little bit more. >> So at the last meeting we had a um representative from Right Path come to visit us, Andrea Edwards, and she will be our liaison with Right Path to support our students. Um currently we have a military population of 44 families or 44 students and 32 families. And um
she has all kinds of things to offer us. And in this offering, one of the things she has offered to do with me is try to get our purple star designation um for one of our schools. So we're just starting with one and we're going to start with the ECC. Um it'll require a liaison, a contact a web page which we've already started and build that partnership. So when military families are moving in and they ask if there's a purple star designation um for the school district and military support, we have that and they help our families um with many things from moving to special ed items to tutoring um school supplies, internships on base, uh field trips. I mean you name it. We talked probably close to two hours. So, you had a snippet
of her at the last board meeting and she is gonna be wonderful to work with. So, we're excited. >> Yeah, it's pretty exciting. >> All right. So, any other discussion? I know. I'm excited about this, especially the purple star. >> So, will we eventually have every school? >> Eventually. So, um, we I'm starting with our younger students because as families move in, if they're looking to put our kids in the ECC for kindergarten, first grade, and then our elementarymentaries, my hope is we can maintain their residency here. >> Yeah. Because military families >> families. >> Yeah. Always. Yeah. >> However, I can keep them online or virtual if I wanted to. So, >> there's other options and we're not So we compete a lot with Mad River and other and Fairborn and Gabber Creek. So
to have this partnership I'm very excited. >> It's really exciting. >> All right, we'll move on for a vote then. >> Mr. Dwell, >> yes. >> Mr. M. >> Yes. Mr. Sha, >> yes. >> Mrs. Gibson, >> yes. >> All right, item number 15 deals with our Marine SRO program. >> Yes. So, we need a motion and a second that the West Carolton Board of Education approve as presented the 2025 2026 memorandum of understanding between the city of Marine and the Board of Education of West Carolton School District regarding the school resource officer SR program. >> So, move second. >> All right. Anything you like to add? >> We still have Officer Nate, which I'm thrilled about. He does a wonderful job with our students. And um Detective Liz Adams is now over help us
donate which we have a great relationship with her so excited. >> Yeah, it is exciting. All right, without any other discussion, we'll move on for a vote. >> Mr. Mundy, >> yes. >> Mr. Sha, >> yes. >> Mrs. Gibson, >> yes. >> Mr. >> Yes. >> All right. Item number 16 is going to sound familiar. The West Carolton SRO program. Um, I need a motion and a second that the West Carlton Board of Education approve as presented the 2025 2026 memory and of understanding between the city of West Carolton and the board of education of West Carolton School District regarding the school resource officer SRO program. >> So move second. >> All right. Anything you would like to add to this one? >> We are lucky we still have officer Flowy. >> Yeah. And I
like to say I funny enough I was at the city council meeting uh when they did their work sessions on the uh on their part of the SRO program and they made a few changes like they changed the time >> so like it better schedule her that was >> yeah I mean it was nothing too crazy but I thought it was interesting. I know one thing I thought was interesting that when reading through it was that we can technically have them at a board meeting. >> We could. >> Yeah. And I remember the one time, but like I just never think about that. Like we technically do have our own security. >> We do. >> Just thought that was interesting. >> We just don't need it cuz we got >> a wonderful community. >> So
many congressional board of education that doesn't fight in front of them. >> No one's storming storming the >> she's come before for us. >> Yeah. I just thought that was really interesting when I was looking through it. So >> she's great. >> She is. They're all wonderful. I mean really it's amazing. All right, we'll move on for a vote then. >> Mr. Mundy, >> yes. Mr. Shopper, >> yes. >> Mrs. Gibson, >> yes. >> Mr. Watson, >> yes. >> All right. Item number 17 deals with the career technical license. If you like to explain that, I will. >> Um, I saved all my motions and seconds for the middle of the year. Um, I need a motion in a second that the West Carlton Board of Education wave the requirement for middle school career tech
ed CTE for the 2526 school year due to teacher lure. We currently offer our students career tech and finance at the middle school grades and we meet the hours required um but it doesn't necessarily mean we have the appropriate license. So these courses would relate to our business CTE program at the high school um if they had a CTE license. Due to the lack of lensure, we're unable to code the courses for funding and related to the high school program. >> So I'll explain this. So this is actually the last year we can wave our career teched middle school program. This is last year. We've had to do it every year. Um, and it might be like we've had licensed teachers. We have it in the program, but in case something happens or somebody was
to leave, I've always done the waiver to protect the the program at the middle school. We can't do it after this year. So, it's our last time. >> Wow. Really? >> And then what's what will change? >> We're required to have >> We'll have to license >> a licensed teacher. You stay in middle school or both? >> It's middle school. Oh, really? >> And well, we're working on adding CTE programs. Um, I've been working with Emily Earl and some of the other teachers and um it would be nice to include those in at the school level. So, we'll get there. >> Well, hopefully that doesn't change much because I'm sure that's >> and we offer them. It just really honestly depends upon. >> Right. >> Okay. Well, if there's no other discussion, we'll move on
for a vote. Mr. Yes, >> Mrs. Gibson. >> Yes, >> Mr. >> Yes, >> Mr. Yes. All right, moving right along to item number 18, which is in our agenda. >> So, I need to amend the administrative contracts for the following administrators for the period of time indicated. >> So, moved. >> Second. >> All right. Anything you like to add? >> Experience. Just experience. Um, Miss Halter needed more time at her. >> All right, that we'll move on for a vote. >> Mrs. Gibson, >> yes. >> Mr. Lwell, >> yes. >> Mr. Mendy, >> yes. Mr. Sher, >> yes. >> All right, moving along to item number 19. >> She's been so patient. >> This might to someone in the audience. Um, I would like to recommend that the West Carolton Board of Education grant
an administrative contract to the following administrator for the period of time indicated. >> All right. >> Second. >> All right. Well, I don't know if you want to talk a little bit about this. >> I will. Um, so as everybody here knows, um, Miss Jones is leaving us for a superintendent's position, and we have been very lucky to find Robin Jordan to replace her. and I couldn't be happier. Um, she will be starting on August 1st and I can't wait to see what we do. She comes with a wealth of experiences, um, from secondary curriculum to a very unique job right now. Um, not only working directly with the superintendent, but she's a like a family liaison at a director level. So, I'm looking forward to see how we can tie in our curriculum with
our families and get more information out. So, Robin, would you like to introduce yourself a little bit? You don't have to. >> Absolutely. Yeah. Um, Robin Jordan and um I'm just so honored and grateful to be coming to West Carolton. um couldn't be more excited and um just can't wait to get started, you know. Um did you want me to share a little bit about just me or >> if you would like background? >> I have three kids, a 20-year-old, an 18year-old, both boys, and then I have an 11year-old daughter. And Um, we live in Mason and my husband is a teacher there. So, he's also an educator and so I know the article that you wrote for me that's on the website is amazing. Thank you so much. >> And you can find out
more about her again in the news section. that I guess I should just say if you want to learn more about me, >> go to the website, right? But um I'm just so thrilled to be coming and to join the team. Um to to just the amazing work that's already happening here and to meet the families and the students and the amazing staff, too. I can't wait. I'm just ready to get going. >> She's been working behind the scenes with us already. Yeah, I've already been coming up here. So, um it's been great to have >> I just can't wait. >> Yeah, I've already got my red and black. >> I saw that. >> So, I'm prepared. >> I'm ready to be a pirate. >> Oh, that's Well, I was going to say you're about
to be welcomed into the pirate family. I have a feeling. >> So, I have a student who would like to ask you a question, though. >> Oh, don't forget the mic. >> Okay, here we go. >> Don't forget the mic. Oh, listen. >> I love this job. >> We need it officially. >> Oh gosh. >> Why you're asking this question first? >> Will you bring candy to us at the meetings? >> Oh, absolutely. >> Oh my gosh. >> I will bring you candy. What else do you want? >> Miss Jones brought the kids candy for every board meeting. >> And Mr. Barry, >> he sent me candy, too. >> I got you. What kind of candy do you want? >> I don't know. Miss surprised me. >> As soon as you introduce yourself, she leans
over. She goes, >> she reme right now. >> Wow. >> Is the camera rolling? What a welcome. >> Thank you. >> Put that on the front page. >> Wow. >> Well, look at that. That's I mean, there's nothing better than that. That's for sure. >> What's your What's your favorite candy? >> Sour Punch Straws. What What now? But what flavor? What flavor? >> Strawberry. Okay. >> Raspberry. >> And Haley, what about you? I don't know. I like all candy. >> The Reesei cup seen one pretty quick. Yeah, it's on. >> Wow. >> Here we go. It's official. >> Yeah. >> I got you. >> I mean, while I'm taking candy requests, feel free. >> Candy. >> Breath mints are always nice. >> I'll bring everyone's favorite candy. We probably should have done this after the
vote so it didn't seem so Yeah. >> Oh yeah. I didn't mean it that way. Sorry. >> Oh yeah. >> Well, let's get the vote going then and then we'll uh please don't be >> we'll talk about candy after. >> All right. Well, we'll call for a vote. >> Mr. Llewellyn. >> Yes. >> Mr. M. >> Yes. Mr. Shock. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Gibson. >> Yes. Well, >> yeah. Welcome. >> Okay. Thank you. Now you can tell me what >> congratulations on being a pirate. We're excited. >> Very excited to have you. >> Practice your arg. >> I'll get the little kids next door to do it really loud and the teachers get so flustered with me. I'm like louder. >> Oh, good. All right. Well, we'll move on to item number 20. >> All
right. It's our last item. I'll bring you sour candy, too. But I'm proud to do it on the way. Um, I'd like to recommend that the West Carlton Board of Education grants presented a limited administrative contract to the following administrator for the period of time indicated. >> So moved. >> Second. Would you like to add anything to to that? >> No. >> Good enough for me. All right. Well, we'll move on for a vote then. >> Mr. Mundy, >> yes. >> Mr. Sher, >> yes. >> Mrs. Gibson. >> Yes. >> Mr. Love. >> Yes. >> Congratulations to him, too. >> All right. Well, I don't know. Um, is there anything on the S reference report? I don't know. Do you guys have updates? I'm hoping some with the closet. I haven't talked to you guys
about it. >> Okay. >> So, uh, Danielle and I went a couple weeks ago and we went into the closet to like reassess after the school year. Um, and we talked about this a couple weeks ago, but we took an inventory of stuff. So, if you'd like to see it, uh, we would like to report that we need more small men's pants and shorts, men and women's t-shirts of any kind. Uh, mostly, um, like more plain than anything. Um, or just general t-shirts and men's shoes. Uh, we're looking for clothing that's in good condition and can still be used. Sometimes we get some stuff and it's like, well, we can't really use this. So, um, just making sure that what you donate is school appropriate and can still be used. Um, on the other hand,
we have lots of toiletries and feminine products and things like that. We have like a lot and socks, lots of socks. So, yeah, I think like we have like boxes of toothbrushes that people donated. So, a lot of that kind of stuff. Um, and then we also want to say that as we go into the new school year, we're working on improving communication from us about the closet and more things that we're working on towards students and the rest of the district. >> Anything else? >> And when it comes to the the needs, can you tell me the first ones before the the clothes again? >> Um, just for the clothes. >> Yeah, cuz I got the shorts or the men and women t-shirt and the shoes. What was the few things before that? Oh,
mouth wash. >> Yes. Yes, we need more mouthwash. >> Um, but other than that, I think we're pretty good. I think, um, we might go get some more perfumes and stuff like that. We don't have a whole lot of like men's cologne. So, um, just little things like that seem to go pretty quick, actually, too. So, and then we also have a little checklist that we made. So, this will hang up in the closet and, um, those that assist people walking through the closet will check off things that are taken. There's no names attached to this, so it stays confidential, but that's just so we can um have a record of what's taken and uh keep track of what we need more of. >> Wow, >> very organized. Thanks. >> We're working on it. >>
That is so cool. >> Great. Is there anything else uh for you guys? Having a good summer hopefully? >> Yeah, I just turned 15. >> Oh, wow. back in my day. >> I I will uh I'll take a second and just make a general announcement. There are two of them sitting there with us this this board meeting and Haley and Daniellea, we appreciate you coming, but we did offer a student rep position to a third student who will be here in August. And I will wait until then to introduce her and share what her name is, but she'll be here in August 6 is our next meeting, right? She is Uh she's expected to try and attend that one. So there'll be three student reps next year. She is a junior I want to stay
right. >> So she'll be with us hopefully for two years and Haley's in her second year and Daniel both of them are in their second year with us. So and Haley we will lose at the end of the years since she's a senior. >> But we did choose a new student rep one uh one female. So we have three girls. We've only had one in the six either five or six years we've done this. We only had one male student rep >> and that was Ashton. He was awesome. But some somehow we the girls just went out when you do the interviews and so but we appreciate you guys and everything you do to commit to be here and share feedback. And >> is there >> I forget what we decided on. >> Yeah, you're
right. There's two >> three and then an alter >> was who I was thinking of but you're right there's a there's a >> we have three plus an alternate that will be in the audience and we'll have one additional up here with us. >> You're right. So >> totally forgot that. I appreciate you reminding me Lori. >> So we've been a few weeks since we did that. >> Well that's good. All right. Well, um, other than that, do we have any committee reports that anyone wants to >> Oh, I do. >> All right. So, the records committee has recorded the records and it is in the record that the records are correct. That's all I got to say about that. >> That lasted longer than >> the quickest meeting in the district. That is that
is wonderful. All right. Um I don't know if you want to talk about it a little bit if you want me to. >> Um we have our alumni committee. >> Um that will be coming up the 24th at 7 or 7:24 at 6 >> here >> this month on the 24th at 6 at this address >> July 24th at 6:00 p.m. here. >> Can Can you Okay. What is the address? 4:30 East Peas. >> Okay, just so everyone in the audience knows, >> it's correct on our website. >> It is correct on the website. It's not on the agenda, though. My bad. >> Accidentally put in the community center >> like a goofball center. >> Civic center. Yeah. And it's funny because I thought that was cute. I put in a link, too, so it
goes to >> the wrong place. Yeah. >> Ridiculous. I'm gonna tell you, I made three agendas for three different things. And I messed all three of them up. It was It was incredible. >> We had you. >> Yeah. Everyone's cookie like musical chairs. >> We fixed it. >> So, yeah, that was >> a scavenger hunt. >> Yeah, it is. >> Got it. >> It was a little extra to it. >> Um, so yeah, the alumni committee is going to be exciting. Um, it's just going to be discussion. I mean, nothing's going to be sent down at all, but we're excited. We have a few cool things that we're going to discuss and kind of gauge what the community wants. um see what things they have interest in, see what things really they don't care about,
and then we'll kind of go from there. And really, it's a lot of it's kind of pie in the sky type of ideas because we really don't have any budget behind it or anything. So, it's pretty much just seeing what they want and then seeing what we can do to to get there. So, we'll have a presentation um that was confirmed by uh by uh one of Yeah. Lori one of our past teachers. So, that's going to be interesting. So, hopefully we can get the stuff to work. >> That's one of the things I was worried about. So, if we can get everything to work, she'll have her >> Michaela and Denise are going to be here. >> Are you guys going to be here? >> We are both alumni. >> Good. >> They take
a little offense to if we can get it working like hello. Well, we got tech pros uh to handle this. So, I'm hopefully it'll be a good meeting with a lot of people coming in. I'm hoping it'll be kind of busy. I had a few people email this on the website. >> Thank you. My fixed agenda. Thank you. I appreciate it. >> All right. And then >> Oh, wow. >> 6:30 and it says it's at 6. It's at six. No, I was trying to say the date and >> nobody watches this anyway. So >> to all those watching, I'm so sorry. >> Way more visitors to that than there is. >> So all three of the people that's watching this, please come. >> Yeah. Tell them. Um, I know you spoke with Amber and did
you guys talk about the community action or the cab meeting at all? >> I'm like I don't know if there's anything official or >> there's nothing official and it's Amber's turn still. >> Okay. All right. I'm like I want I definitely want to come. Yeah. I missed I missed all of them. suddenly go to one >> and then it's >> so we're years with how slow these meetings get coming together, it's going to be years for sure. Um and then I really don't have much on the legislative stuff. A lot's happening, but we'll hold off on talking about it for all those I think. Um all right, we'll move on. Uh comments from the superintendent. You got anything? >> I do. Um first of all, our group that came to present to us tonight for
the strategic plan, their costs are very reasonable. I interviewed several different groups and they range from $54,000 to $150,000. >> So >> I remember I remember when you introduced this to us precoid because I was here then >> and their cost was way bigger. And it was going to take longer, too. Way more expensive. >> So, >> well, there's a cost to this. To have it done and have it done effectively with an outside view to keep us on track is always the best option, >> right? >> Um, oh, I'll be changing the password for the website. >> We just chang any Somebody leaves. I have to change it. So, >> Miss Jones is leaving so I have to change it. >> She gets good to know. >> Remember, we have to remember. >> I
know. And I'll make sure I send it out in my >> Thank you so much. >> That's all I have. >> Thank you. >> Ryan, you got anything to add on this beautiful summer day? >> Uh, I just wanted to welcome Robin. Um so everybody looks forward to to working with you. So welcome. And um on the state budget real quick, um you know, the governor did did schools, you know, a big help by by vetoing a lot of a lot of the financial items um that the house and senate approved. Um as as we know, there is um there's a scheduled veto vote next week. Um there's three main items that that are affecting funding. Uh two of those three luckily don't really affect our district directly. The one relates to county budget commissions
having the ability to look at each entity separately and and reduce or roll back taxes. Um so you know we'll see how that veto uh vote works out. Um, so I we can discuss get into the to the into the details, you know, in the next month or so um once we get past this this veto vote next week. Um, but just uh very fortunate that the governor stepped in and uh vetoed a lot of things specifically like the the percentage um trying to dictate to districts what what your cash balance can be. So um that was a good thing regarding um him U him vetoing that item. So um but otherwise I mean you know K12 is kind of flat funded for the next two years big picture. So um just not a not
a lot of additional money going into K12. Um but that's the world we live in. Um, just because I'm going to forget it. I think and help me to remember on the 30th was Ryan supposed to come in for the work session to give an update. >> You can have him there or we can I can just have him on. >> Okay. So, so he doesn't have to come. >> Okay. Because I'm like I don't know what you would really say. But I know we talked about it during our work session. So I just wanted to be sure that if you don't have to come to not come, you know. So I was just going to forget if I miss anything. All right. Um we have no comments from either of our associations. So we'll
move on to our lengthy central office staff. Well, I guess we technically have another one, but you know, I don't know if you have anything else to add, Miss Robin. Good with what you got? >> Not this evening. >> Not yet. >> Good. Okay. All right, Devin. >> Yeah. If you have anything to add, it's brief and we always keep it brief for you. I wanted to welcome welcome Robin Jordan again. I got to see the process and interview and I think you're doing a good job. Uh the other thing that I wanted to bring to everyone's attention that was really to me as I looked through and I thought about it because we just approved two of them. Um just like this is a record completing my 10th year the record amount of retirees
for one year with 13 was really huge. Um it's also a record amount of kids from parents that are current teachers that we've hired in one year. So we hired four teachers kids as teachers which is really cool. So, two of them were just approved tonight. So, two retirees, recent retirees, and two that are still working that will be working not in the same buildings as their daughters, but uh pretty close. >> Cool. That's exciting. >> It is. All right. Well, we have no general comments from the public today, so we'll move right along to board members. Angie, you want to start us off? >> Sure. I want to welcome Robin for the pirate family. Also want to thank Christy and Terry for coming in to talk to us from last week. Um remind everybody
to please join us for the alumni committee meeting on July 24th. And um remind everybody about Pirate Island Fest on September 13th. I know they're still looking for vendors and volunteers. So, if um you're able to help do any of those, please reach out to Sarah D'Angelo. >> That's all you have. All right, John. >> Thank you, Robin. Welcome. Just so you know, you will have a seat at that table next time you're here. >> It's a longer table. >> Longer. There's typically four staff sitting there. So, you will be uh invited to attend every meeting and contribute anything you want to share with us like Deon did and um I would share two things real quick packs of course summertime so for your purposes packs is a weekend food assistance program that Nate and
I are both involved with and I've been involved with since 2016 and we basically give about 300 kids a week uh during the school year uh a weekend pack to take home to help supplement with their food at home and so uh that program. Um, received some more. I've shared a lot of good news about that this year and I'm going to uh kind of finalize something. The uh the biggest organization that helps us is called Dayton Disney. They had an event in June and we'll be donating $26,500 to us. Um, they haven't received it yet, but we will. Uh, last year they donated 25, it was the record last year I think 23,000. And so this is been topping that. So >> just amazing. information there. And also, uh, it's too late to to
take advantage of this now, but um, Powerfax received a a grant a couple months ago, and one of the groups involved in the grant is part ownership in a couple of the Arby's locations around here, and it's already over, but the Arby's down on Hei in Miami did a roundup for us for a week, and so they had the photo of our logo go outside and I don't know what the proceeds of that garnered for us, but there's three different Arby's locations that are doing those. A lot of restaurants are doing them now where they're asking you to round up to the next dollar to donate to a charity. So, they've been helpful in helping us with that, too. So, just wanted to throw that out there. The the actual packing of packs will start
at the end of August, the second week of the school year, as we usually do. But we'll be working with all the schools and attending some open houses to the word out. And of course, all the staff at the schools, we really appreciate because we couldn't do this without their help. And Jack isn't here, but he's he's always instrumental in helping us with the maintenance crews who pick up the packs and deliver them. Just just want everybody out there to know that we're going strong and we appreciate the support. Oh, one more thing I want to say about it. Piratepacks.org is the website and we do have a link on there where if you want to help us with packing, uh we pack weekly. uh you certainly can uh sign up there to let us
know that you're coming. And if you're bringing a group with you, a church group or we have Girl Scout groups, we have lots of groups that come and help us. So, just want to announce that as well, just visit piratepacks.org and we'll have the schedule up for volunteers. Thank you. >> And would you like to say where we pack? It's in the rain behind the paint recre center. >> It is for anybody that's been here a long time. There used to be a water park in Maine called Splash. Is that what building it's called? >> Uh it's gone pretty much, but the uh concession stand that was in operation there is the basically the only building left and that is the building that our um that the city of Marine has allowed us for free
to uh to use for years now with being able to store food. So the packing is done. If you go to um >> pain rec center, think of it. Thank you. If you go to the pain rec center, which is in marine, and you go around to the back of the building, you'll see uh the pirate packs is just a small little green roof building, small building, but it holds everything we need it to hold. And that's where we pack every week. And and again, that's got it own parking, so it's really good. The high school used the baseball field this year because of construction. So a lot of times when we would go packing, at least in the last couple of months, it was full of cars because the baseball team would be playing
on the Thursday when we typically pack. But yeah, thanks. >> All right, Mr. Lori. >> Yeah. Um, you'll find that we repeat ourselves a lot, so um, welcome to Pirate Nation. Um, so glad to have you on board. Um, so glad that you took with humor our our young ladies and their requests for candy, although it's probably not an option. It's It was funny, but they're expecting candy. Um, yeah, it's it's me. Um, I I really wish I had more things to say and but I don't. So, I don't have notes this time, so I got nothing. >> Um Oh, no, no, no. I do have something. Um, so our adopt a school um is up and running. I've already contacted my uh principal and we're already setting dates and times and getting together and
follow that John. >> All right. >> No pressure. >> Easy. >> Wow. >> September. >> Yeah. I don't know. That's right. >> I don't know where that came from. >> I don't know. But >> so Okay. >> Setting the bar so high. >> Wow. All right. Well, I think I'm I guess I'm it now after that. Um there's a few things. Not too much. I won't keep you guys forever. Um I know I'm very excited for you, Robin. I of course I'm sure I don't know if anyone else know. I know it's big shoes to fill. Julie was incredible, but I have so much faith in the amazing things that you're going to do. And it was funny. I was at our Hope for West Carol meeting yesterday. It's not related to the school books,
but well, I guess it kind of is through neighbor, but well, I guess it is. I just I don't know why I said it, didn't it? Because we were talking about you um with our reading allies program and I guess Julie was she even came to a lot of those before meetings and um so we're super excited to continue that program. Um the amount of amazing I don't know what you would call it progress that has been made for those kids through that program has been wonderful. So we're excited for you to jump in on that. >> Oh the reading allies program. You probably because I volunteers that come in and read to our littles next door two times a week for 30 minutes and then we measure their progress. So, our kids have made
a lot of growth and it's been fun for them as well as our community members. >> Yeah. So, >> they're great. >> Yeah. It's been a great collaboration between the community and kids and and they did it in Alabama. That's where it started and it has exploded there. I mean, just so much amazing progress. So, um to have it here has just been wonderful. And >> yeah, so we are just so excited to keep that program going. So, we're excited to have you. Welcome to Power Nation. And I also wanted to say it's it's a little odd. We have uh Kathy looks a lot younger. Um or she changed her name to Michaela. We >> I'll just change my name to Kathy. >> Yeah, there you go. But welcome. I mean to have us obviously
you're alumni as well, but to uh to have you do this is really exciting. So we're excited to see your face now. >> Thank you. >> Yeah. Yeah, thank you. Because I know it's not the I don't know. It's probably pretty fun. >> Glamour job. >> I think it'll be a lot of fun. >> I feel like we're entertaining. We are, >> right? >> I would agree. Yeah, >> we sure know how to pass the time. That's for sure. >> Still helps prep you for converation. >> Take the lights off so I don't >> Oh, yeah. The lights. >> Deon and I are going to have a meeting beforehand. >> Somebody lean. >> Trick is I know how to program. >> If you don't see the lights, I will run back there and do them
myself. I'm just saying someone's got >> to be tradition at this hilarious. >> Why do I see your respit to have you? Um, let's see. Oh, um, I know and I thought you were going to mention it.
