001Good lines. >> Okay. >> All right. Well, hello everyone. Uh, welcome to our West Carolton Board of Education uh, business meeting. Today is Wednesday, November 12th, 2025. >> Mrs. Gibson, >> yes. Here. >> Mr. Dweller >> here. >> Mrs. Miller >> here. >> Mr. M >> here. Mr. >> Here. >> All right. Please stand for the pledge of allegiance. To the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands. One nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. >> Especially if you've seen the day after Veterans Day. That sounds a lot cooler when it's a whole room, you know. >> All right. So, I'm going to get through some introductions and then we'll move right on ahead. So, oh Jack, should we just start with you? We

002have Jack Egg. He is our business manager. And then right next to Jack, we have Dr. Robin Jordan, which is our curriculum uh director. Next to her is Miss Becky German, our director of student services. And then, of course, we have wonderful Devon Barry, our director of human resources. Moving Mariah Long. I guess I'll be saying the name. So hopefully I get these uh you you'll see why I say that we have >> you want. >> You know what? Yeah, >> because it's a full room. It's nice to hear them say it, you know. >> My name is Haley Schuster and I'm a senior. >> Hi, I'm Daniela Rodriguez Vasquez and I am a sophomore. >> As you can see, if I said that, you would have no idea. >> All right, moving right along.

003We have Miss Lori Gibson, school board member. We have Dr. Andrea Townson, our superintendent. Uh my name is Dane Mundy. I'm also on the school board. Moving along, we have Leslie Miller, which is our vice president. John Lu Allen, which is another member of the board. Angie Shockley, another member of the board. And then of course, right at the end there, we have Ryan, our treasurer. So we got a full house everywhere today. And then uh number five. So that's going to be the agenda. And we do have an amendment. >> We do. I need to add item 11B um athletics and add new item number 16. And then also I need to in our communications update add Shannon Cox. >> Oh, okay. >> So moved. >> Second. >> All right. Mr. Gibson, >> yes.

004>> Mr. G, >> yes. >> Mr. Miller, >> yes. >> Mr. Mu, >> yes. Mr. Sher, >> yes. >> Okay, with all that, we will uh no comments from the public relating to the agenda items. So, we'll move right along to Janine. >> Good evening, everyone. >> Normally, I don't get too nervous at these things, but I don't know. >> Okay, first off, I wanted to remind everyone what's happening in the school district. West carltonschools.com is our website. You can check us out on Facebook at west carlton city schools xwc city schools Instagram at wc city schools. You can also find your school by just clicking on that uh schools at the top menu bar of the website. This is this is something new fact or fiction. So fiction school district has plenty of money.

005We hear those comments out there and you know we are building new schools but we want to remind everyone that money is for a specific use. It came from a school bonded issue and the state is paying 81% of the cost of all of these new buildings. Every co-unded dollar is pretty much the state's cost. So, wanted to remind you of that. Also, um the school district just passed a levy. Now, we hear that, too. And the actual levy that we last passed was in 2016. So, we're looking at almost 10 years. And a building bond issue and an operating levy are two totally different things. And the pots of money are two totally different pots of money and they cannot be intermixed. And you can find out more about that on our website too

006um under the treasures page. Veterans Day, I wanted to say thank you specifically to David Austin, Devonberry, who is here tonight. Nathan Huffman, Benjamin Ali A. I I'm not sure. I probably butchered his last name. Please excuse me if I mess up anybody's last name this evening. And Jessica Richber, those are employees that are here that have served in the military. We also want to thank all of our active milary members and anyone who has served living in the school district. We appreciate you being here, being part of our school district. Tomorrow is World Kindness Day and I said, you know, it's it starts at home. Kindness starts at home. Then kids bring it to school. They share it with their teachers, their classmates, support staff. Then all of those people take it home and

007share it with their It just keeps building from there. I also, as I was thinking about that today, I thought the same thing is true for the flu. So, please remember to wash your hands after you give somebody that hug. Um, yeah, here we go. We had a little surprise earlier this week. Not only the snow, but we had Frosty the Snowman. And, uh, I wanted to talk to Frosty, but my dreams of melted away. I couldn't help it. Anyhow, it's a big hit. We want to remind you that if schools should be closed, it will show up first on our social media pages. Our website will send information to the local media as well, but we don't have control of when they post it. So, your best bet is to look at those two

008things. We'll also be making phone calls. Fall break, November 24th through November 28th. Students return Monday, December 1st. And happy Thanksgiving. I just wanted to tell everybody happy Thanksgiving. And thank you to everyone who contributed to our food drive this year. They collected a lot of food. Meer also contributed $500 in gift cards and they were able to buy turkeys. So they are going to for families. There'll be a drive-thru pickup this Saturday um for those families. And again, the Pirate Pride Award, that's where you can find it. And we would like you to nominate someone if you know someone deserving of a Pirate Pride Award. And thank you, Michael, keeping me on my So, that brings us to today. So, I wanted to start off first with two people, Jeremy Fernandez and Learius Perry.

009if you and your coach could also come up. And Evan, if you're still around, so Jeremy scored a record of breaking. This is a school record of seven goals in a single game. And I found out this evening that it's the same night he also hurt his ankle. So that A lot of grit there. Congratulations, Jeremy. We really appreciate you uh showing that grit off. Then we have Learius Perry. And Learius Evan was telling me, "Hey, I I got an email from um what association?" >> Um from OHS. >> Okay. So, one of the referees, of course, he said, "When you get one of those emails, you immediately panic and think, oh no, what happened?" But in this case, it was a good thing. Do you want to talk about that. >> Yeah. >> Okay.

010>> So, so this is actually the second um report that we we received about the Darius's conduct on the field. Um just as a leader um kind of doing a great job of making sure everybody is doing everything to display pirate pride, everything we expect from our student athletes. Um but is a great leader. Um definitely going to be missed. Has some great teammates to help lead the way and kind of set the tone for the younger guys. So definitely just wanted to give him a special shout out because that's the only one I've received in over 10 years of doing this job. CONGRATULATIONS. >> So gentlemen, before you leave, we're going to want to get pictures. So don't leave without me. And also the coach just gave them medals. And I have for each

011of them some things too. >> You have to hop that way. >> Sorry, I didn't mean to make you hop. I was going to walk over. Okay. I also have to say Larius told me I sat down and talked with him. He said his family has a tradition whenever they have some kind of recognition that goes on a wall in their home. So now with Darius, there's a certificate for you. You can put that on your wall. And Jeremy, that is for you. You're welcome. I also have for each of you a pirate pride coin. This only goes to people who have done special things in our school district. So we want to give you each one of these. They're all laughing because Mr. on the school board has been trying to get one for

012years now. So, thank you very much, gentlemen. Thanks for all you do. Okay, so now we're going to move on to another exciting group, the boys cross country team. Come on up. If you notice, the coach is carrying a trophy. This is a first place trophy. I I cannot remember the last time the cross country team got a first place. And I was really excited talking to these gentlemen prior to the meeting. There are no seniors on this team. So, this is an up and cominging team. So, that's really exciting. I'm excited to see what they do next year. They won first place in the Valley section of the Miami Valley League this year. So, congratulations. And I have certificates for you. Also, the coach has medals for you. So, we'll let him pass those

013up first. >> Michael told for um he placed in the NBL also second team league. Team Okay. So, Kayn Burnham Terrell, are you here? He is not here. Okay. How about Lucas Winsel? I have for you a point, a pen that you can wear as well as a certificate. Thank you so much. Congratulations. Michael and then we have Jaylen Stites. We also have London Smith here. Still important to recognize them. You hear Portillo. also an orchestra >> and he was chosen last year to perform with the right state orchestra. So that was really a big accomplishment. So um yeah, also a district qualifier in cross country. So there you go. Congratulations. And do we have Preston Pearson? AND THEN WE have Tyson Naya. >> How do you pronounce it? >> New one. I'm so sorry.

014I knew I knew one would be messed up. Congratulations. I also wanted to mention too that Tyson was the high school junior student of the month for October. >> We have Cooper Hensley. Cooper was also a district qualifier in cross country. Congratulations Congratulations. And then Kayn Bernham Terrell. >> Oh, he's not. He's the one here. Okay. I'm so sorry. Okay. Well, that concludes that. We do want you to stay because I'm going to come get a picture of the whole team, but you can just go to that area and I'll come get you as soon as I'm done. Now I've lost my little mouse. I did want to move this so you can see the picture. I want to recognize to the ladies that are here tonight. We had two or two district qualifiers for

015cross country with the ladies team. Isabelle Williams, are you here? >> To come up so they could be recognized. Thank you so much. And Evan wanted to talk just a little bit about the coaches because I know that they work really hard to get these kids to where they're at. Um so I'm just going to turn it over to him for a moment. >> Yeah, I just wanted to um give our coaches a special shout out. um doing great things with the program. Coach Walker will not be returning this next year. Um give it up for coach Zack. He's a veteran as well. Also back there, um Derek Duckworth in a red sweatshirt with second team all league. So he got his medal tonight as well. This is the first time we've given out all

016league medals at board meeting. So it's a special occasion. So thank you for having us here. It's great athletes and coaches. So that is all I have for this even. >> Wow. Well, thank you guys. It's really one more TIME to all those that are athletes and all that. You guys don't have to stay the whole time except if you want to. It gets a lot more I don't want to say boring. Uh but >> yeah, it's interesting. Now to some of the sports folks I don't know maybe but you guys are able to lead this probably. >> Thank you guys. >> We appreciate you all. All right, as they start cycling out, um, our first presentation is going to be Shannon Cox, our McGomery County, uh, educational service center superintendent. and a plus one.

017>> Um, >> so we're excited. I know uh people are crowded out and all that, but we wanted to get you guys up here so our guys could be here. So, we appreciate seeing you guys. >> We appreciate being here. Thank you for having us and congratulations to all of the kids. That's super special. Um, so I am Sheena Cox. I'm the superintendent of the McGomery County Educational Service Center. um but the longtime pirate actually roamed these halls when I was a little girl because my dad worked here for 40 years. So pirate at heart um but here for a whole different reason and it's so great to see all of the new buildings and beating here in this space. You guys have worked so hard to do that as a community. So I applaud

018you and I applaud the efforts of the administration to make it happen um alongside of their community. But today tonight we are here to bring you another special award. Um couple of years ago we had some funding that was presented to us from our Adams board, our local um drug and alcohol mental health prevention services in the county. And they said, "We've got all of these really great prevention programs that we'd really like to be able to give to young people in schools. We just can't seem to get any leverage." And I said, "Well, the good news is I can help with that." And so we set out to do some prevention programming across the county. West Carolton City Schools has been a longstanding um partner in that work. But we've recognized over the last

019few years that it's not just about the prevention. It's really about the whole child, the whole teacher, the whole educator, the whole family unit, and technically the whole community. And that means really being mentally um having a mental wellness that is helpful for you to navigate these uh wires that we call life. And life has been a little crazy the last few years. So we pivoted um last year um wrapped up the schools of prevention in education and schools of excellence. Thank you. In prevention and we shifted to schools of distinction in mental >> wellbe. Oh my gosh. I should just let her do it right. Well, wellness. >> Schools of distinction wellness. >> There you go. Do it. Thank you. It's a team effort. That's right. >> Um and so the school districts. It's

020not about just filling out a piece of paper and applying. It's about demonstrating the work and showing that you have set a goal, made progress towards those goals, both at the student level and the adult level. I have with me today, not just my interpreter, but my partner in crime in this work, Amanda Deer, and she is a rockstar in her own right. So, I'm going to turn the mic over to her and let her just continue being the rock star before we actually present the award. We've got a lot of really great stats and information that we want you to hear. All right. And I'm going to ask Mr. Chrysik, he'll come up here um for this award because WE deserve that. We want to honor West Carolton Middle School and their commitment to

021this work tonight. Um and I just want to share with you in case you're unaware of some of the amazing things that have been happening and where some of that work has been focused. Uh in last school year and then I'll give you a little preview of what's happening this year. So last year there was a a goal that was set was that 100% of students were going to be able to identify a a trusted adult in the building and that they were going to see a 10% decrease in discipline referrals for boys in the building. They saw a 90% of students who were able to identify a trusted adult in the building, which is the highest level since CO, which is amazing, and a 22% decrease in visual referrals for boys. That's huge. They

022blew that goal out OF already this year they've had a 29% decrease in disciplinary referral girls for boys and overall for all students a 23% decrease in disciplinary girls and I think it's credited to this MTSS that multi-tered systems of support for this school is being implemented with effective tier one and tier two systems really focusing on those skills that to manage the rough waters of life that Shannon uh referenced. They've got groups that are running. They've got seven tier 2 groups that are running and six more that are coming and the staff are bought in and staff are excited about this and they are helping to move this work forward. That's incredible. That's incredible leadership and we want to honor Mr. Chris with the School of Distinction and Mental Wellness uh award and thank

023him for the work that he's doing FOR YOU ALL. WE'RE GONNA LEAVE ALSO. OKAY. >> Thank you guys. >> Thank you. >> Great partnership. >> All right. Wow. Well, I I didn't get to do it previously, but does anyone have any comments on I don't want I don't want to like make everyone have to wait till the end to say anything. So, >> all right. Well, we will Thank you guys. >> Pretty good. Congratulations. >> Special day. >> Good job. >> Yeah. We're gonna be talking about points of pride with uh our middle school principal. Sweet. >> Just make a permanent reservation, right? Yeah. Um so we were talking about um at first foremost just thank you for we have quite a few staff members in the audience who certainly make this possible um and

024the award possible um when it comes to student mental wealth or mental health. I need my I need a translator too. >> I have to go. I'm sorry. >> Yes. >> Um but we also have a lot of guests tonight to talk about student leadership. Um so um uh we have quite a few different groups um that view themselves as leaders. Um so thank you to all the students who are out and they are going to be coming up to speak here in a minute. Um when it comes to student leadership, we have like formal groups um that certainly do some of um our leadership activities. Um but we also have ones that are um leading in different and unique ways. Um so tonight either from a slide perspective or from students themselves, we'll have

025NJHS um speak to us, student council. Um we've also been able to relaunch uh team leaders um which is something that existed before co and um we've now been able to launch Miss Arnette and her news crew um will has has the latest information um from the middle school as well as a news machine too. Um anytime we do that um things that we focus on is how we can be our best self and be a pirate because seventh and eighth grade um can be rocky and we certainly want to focus on positive things going on. Um, so, uh, at this point in time, I'll go ahead and call up National Junior Honor Society. So, Katherine Patterson, Tabitha Nolan, and her group, come on up. >> Hi guys. So, I am Tabitha Nolan. I am

026a year 2 co-advisor of National Junior Honor Society. I co-advised last year with Shel Arette who has decided to set boundaries and step away from some of the clubs that she was advising and this year I have Katherine Patterson who is helping co-advise NJHS with me and behind me I have several of our NJHS students. We have 31 students in National Junior Honor Society which correct me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure that's the most that we've ever had in >> Absolutely. Yes. >> So we had a lot of students to be eligible for NHS they have to have a 3.0 O grade gradepoint average or higher. Um and they have to go through a rigorous application prog process where they have to get three teacher recommendations um as well as completing a whole

027application demonstrating their leadership skills um things that they're involved in in the community outside of the school and within the school. Um and these students behind me are a few of those who went through that process and were accepted. Um and they're going to highlight just a little bit about NJHS. Hi, I'm Jane Ree and National Junior Honor Society uh give these students a chance to provide for their community and give to their community. Uh 31 of us were elected. How however we could kind of cheat by getting to the school and to write our recommendation down. Uh we are trying to influence the students and the teachers to be nicer and to give to the community. Uh, we also can get a $500 scholarship, which is better than full price, but it's not much

028still. Uh, >> yeah. >> Hi, my name is Brown and today I'll be talking about some of the events that will be happening in National Junior Honor Society this year. already this year participated in the homecoming parade previously previously this year and upcoming we will be helping with the NHS community Christmas party and fundraising to benefit a charity that is undetermined yet until our president we will also do candy or carnations for Valentine's Day and lastly we will be doing a service project that will be selected by our members THANK HI, MY NAME IS I JOINED National Junior Honor Society to make a difference in skeleton and learn opportunities and to meet new people. >> Hello, my name is Corbin and I joined NGHS to help me with my writing and my comprehension. And I

029want to make West Kton a better place and um more like people to be kinder >> and nicer to people that are have disabilities. >> They're very nervous. So, thank you for um being with them. Um I just want to show you one more we haven't gotten, you know, into a lot. The application process takes a little bit of a while. So, by the end of first quarter, um they're selected. So, really so far this year, we've had two meetings. Um and they have participated in the homecoming parade. They represented West Carson Middle School in a homecoming parade this year. Um, but like Sienna said, we are electing next week their president, vice president, and then once they have um leaders in the club, they're going to kind of facilitate the meetings, and then as

030a group, they'll decide what they want their community service project to be this year, what they're going to raise funds for to support. Um, and then they're going to do some programming and organizing in order to raise funds and support whatever charity is near and dear to their hearts. Um, I am a Wisconsin alumni myself. Um, I graduated in 2013 and when I was in middle school here, I was part of NJHS. So, getting to be able to lead them and mentor them as they learn how to serve and care for the community has been just a huge privilege and huge joy for me. So, I'm excited to see what they do. We have a really special group of kids. Um, and I just thank you guys so much for having us here tonight. Thank

031you to NJHS. Our next group um is going to be student council. So Doug Kirk and our student council team, come on up. >> Hi everybody. My name is Doug Kirk. I'm the student council adviser for the West Middle School. I'd like everybody to introduce themselves at this time. >> Hi, I'm Sophia. >> I'm the vice president. Hi, I'm the eighth grade secretary. >> Hi, I'm Maria Kundiff and I'm the senator. >> Hi, my name is Wagner, treasur. >> Hi, I'm Chloe Myers and I'm a seventh grade senator. I'm >> so we're very proud of our uh West Carolton Middle School student council members. They are elected to their positions each year by their peers. Um we're very proud of the program that we put together the last few years. respect. A couple of our

032um student representatives um Haley and Ava were both student council presidents for us at the middle school. Very proud of what they've accomplished in high school. Um but we're going to talk what the kids talk mostly here about what they do this year, what can what contributions they they do for our building. Big thing they've done right now they're going to talk about is the food drive. We raised over 2,000 items to our community as well as well as over $760 in cash um that we collect that people donated which was pretty amazing that people are so giving in this time. So we really appreciated that. So at this time I want to turn it over to Zoe our student council president and she'll get us started. I'm >> Each food drive where we the

033staff and students donate and compete um and give back to the community. Um it shows kindness and teamwork to just give back to the community. And like Mr. Cook said, um we got over 2,000 items donated and at the middle school we had competition and winning students each got prizes. >> Um, every year we wait on every year our student council proudly organizes teacher appreciation week to celebrate all incredible teachers and staff members who make our school special. All days of teacher I'm lagging I'm sorry teacher appreciation week we give them one day of sweets and we also write letters well most teachers write letters like to appreciate teachers and staff members so yeah and we also appreciate them for their hard work and for helping us learn and get better at school >> thank

034you Okay, for spirit weeks, our students host unfilled spirit weeks to give the students dressed up. So, we try to get everyone to I'm sorry. We try to get everyone to where they feel included and enjoy. We mostly do it or dance. So, we can get them with excitement and then the fellow is the student council. Sorry. >> It's a dance. I'm so sorry. It's a dance for people to celebrate members, friendships, and achievements throughout their middle school career and say goodbye as they prepare for the excitement of high school. So yeah, as you can see, we do lots of exciting events during the year. We're very proud of our members. Um, strong group of kids this year. Very, very impressed with the seventh graders in Anchorage this year. So, thank you very much. >>

035Right. So, um, from a student leadership perspective, um, another group that we've been able to relaunch, um, but we haven't had, we don't they weren't able to join with us tonight is a group called teen leaders. Um, so, um, we actually really strategically tried with student council and kids being able to vote for student council, include kids who maybe didn't win on student council, but could still be included in team leaders. Um, so, thus far, uh, we have 39 students in team leaders. U, there are students that are voted by their peers. Um, so there was actually a wide variety of questions um kind of testing loyalty as well as um uh friendship um um as well as as sticking up for what's right. Um their first event um that they went to this year

036was a mental health event that was put on by UD and Caresource um about the importance of talking about mental health and being able to um converse on it. Um students actually put together these slides. Um so they felt like uh they they took a takeaway was that you're not alone. Um which is crucial um for any student. Um but certainly certainly a teenager. Um as well as if you feel like you need support um finding someone to reach out and talk to um is certainly very important um and a critical takeaway for for our team leaders. Um their next their first real event that they are planning is they're planning a lock in um which is like an after school kind of mini carnival um so to speak. Um so that'll be next Thursday

037right before the Thanksgiving break. Um and they have a bouncy house and a lot of different games planned um for kids to stay right after school. Um and the more that we can have clubs and organizations and groups after school, the better um um to keep them in house. Um I know they also have some big picture goals. Um so different things that they have talked about wanting to do um um either upcoming or throughout the school year um would be spirit weeks, random act of kindness week in February. Um we are working towards the idea of using um teen leaders, eighth grade teen leaders as peer mediators um which is certainly helpful um on a lot of different fronts. And then um some bigger type tasks or things that they want to help um

038do are um talking the walk, cleaning up outside um some community service, kind of some intersection with NJHS um as well as the hugest undertaking of some sort of field day at the end of the school year. So I'm very excited to see what team leaders have um in store. Um and it's exciting to get that group up and go even though they're going to be here. So students put together this information for us. Um, at this point in time, I'll pivot to um, Miss Arnett um, and our news crew team um, for us to be able to kind of talk about the intersection of leadership and the arts. Um, so news crew, come on up. Um, hi, my name is Shel Arnett. Um, this is my second year with News Group. Started this last

039year. It was a fledgling organization. Um, and uh, but the kids that decided to join were having a ton of fun and I think everyone in school got to see how much fun they were having and the stuff that we got to produce. Um, I did get a class. So, we now have a media production class. So, they are predominately in charge of making the videos. Um, but I also have members. I actually had 46 kids sign up that wanted to join. And then I said, "Well, you have to do some training so you can learn how to use the equipment." So now I'm about 20. I have about 20 members group. So that that's a good number. I like that number. >> Um so we produce about a 10 to 12 minute video announcement

040every other week that gets shown in advisory class. So that way we know that all the kids are able to see it. Um my my single two-year uh veteran is Prague Sandu. So he's going to tell you a little bit more about it from his >> uh hello ladies and gentlemen. My name is Prague. Uh, being a part of WCMS news crew has taught me a lot about filming, directing, and working at the team. Each episode of news is made to inform and engage students with highlights of what's happening around our school. It's rewarding to see how many students enjoy the announcements. I've also learned how to use various apps like OBS Studio, which is the application we use to record announcements. News Crew has taught me how to represent our school in a positive

041and professional manner. Um, so we did put together a little highlight video, but um, it's about five minutes long, but if you just want to play like the first Hello, this is Kylie and this is Kianne. >> This is this is and this is >> this is mame >> and this is the sandki. Hello, this is Alison and this is Madison. Welcome to our Halloween edition of West Middle School News. >> Hello Heat. Heat. It's sports news here. So, we do we have segments every week. Um, the big ones are question of the week, which it's pretty long, but that's the one where we get to get all of the kids in school involved. We go out at recess and at lunch and we put a microphone and a camera in their face and we

042say, "Answer this question." Um, and you know, you know, the ones that are already ready for it. So, um, that's what I think the kids look forward to the most every week. We always do a sports segment. Um, we have the lunch menu. the kids fight over doing the lunch menu and the closing credits because those are two of the easier things to do. Um, but I think it's been very engaging and I'm really enjoying uh getting to work with all these amazing kids, especially Rob, because he knows more about the iMac than I do. So, without him, this wouldn't be possible. >> And I don't know if you noticed, but I actually got Janine in one of those videos. It's not often that Yeah, >> is the last group too. So, segue to Muse

043Machine. She's going to talk a little bit about Muse Machine. >> Um, so Muse Machine is an arts organization and it might not seem like a it's a leadership organization, but we've really kind of tried to change that. Um, so in a lot of school districts, machine is you sign up, you get some TV shows. A lot of kids will sign up because they get out of class a couple times a year. Um, which is fine. Um, that's a great way for them to be exposed to the arts. But we have started planning activities that the entire school can get involved in. And the biggest one that we've done the last few years is the talent show. And this year we actually organized the Halloween dance. So, um, I have Yepy Cypress here to tell

044you more. Hi, my name is Gabby and this is my third year as a music. Some of my favorite out of school performances were were Hamilton and and the Lion King which we saw at the street. My favorite in school performance was Hype which happened in the beginning of this year. It was presented by Noah Sony, a magician and mentalist. I definitely I'm definitely looking forward to turn tomorrow. >> I really I really >> You're doing great. >> I really enjoy getting to help plan the Halloween and I can't wait for the talent show which I If I get to MC like my wonderful brother Elijah Cypher, which he which he MC two years ago, Muse Machine helped spark my creativity and help me help me meet people that like dance, music, theater, and arts

045as much as I do. Um, so we're not going to watch the highlight videos, but uh, if you look on the bottom there, it says that Mr. Chris was awarded the Muse Machine Virginia Ketering Award, which they gave to an administrator, somebody who supports the Muse Machine organization in their district. He unfortunately was not there to accept the award, and I found out he was not. He hasn't heard the speech yet. So, I'm just going to just do the little part that I had to give um so that he can be recognized in front of all of you. Uh Mr. Chrissy is a champion for Muse Machine at West Carolton Middle School all year. He encourages students to join communicates Muse events in his newsletters and supports my school my school dance fundraiser as well

046as the talent show for the last three years. He has even included Muse Machine as a partner in the middle school's coping days mental health event which he won an award for. So, words. Um, Mr. Chrysik's actions show that Muse is not just another club or box to check off. The care and attention that he gives to Muse Machine shows that he sees the importance of having the performing arts in every school. And so, it is our great pleasure to give the Virginia Ketaring Award to Eric Chrysik of West Carlton Middle School. >> So, that's leadership at the middle school, right? um both student leadership and inherently um other leadership. Um so, thank you families for coming out tonight um to say the least. Um teachers for devoting an evening to come out as well

047um and either and just to um um flip the script on what student leadership looks like in grades seven and eight. So, I definitely appreciate it. Do you guys have any questions? >> No. Thank you. >> That was great. >> Good job. >> I'm very proud. I mean, I'm supposed to be your rep, so this is great. >> Congratulations. >> Good job. >> Wow. Well, >> can't get much further than that. Yeah. If you guys want to go, you don't have to stay. Mom's coming. Yeah, this is uh and then Oh, there goes all the grades as I leave us with >> but the most exciting part the business. >> Anyone else? Where' everyone go? >> Your intermediate. >> Wow. Okay. Well, >> with that um we'll just get to this part. Yeah. >> I

048mean, all right, let's move on. Okay. >> All right. By the way, are are you guys leaving, too? >> That's good. >> Wow. >> Goodbye. I guess you can't blame him, you know. >> Okay. Well, we'll move on to item number nine, uh, which relates to some financial items, right? >> Thank you. I ask the board approve items 9A and 9B as presented. All right, Ryan, do you have anything you would like to add? I know you have a lot of good information for us. Uh, these are the uh financial reports July through the end of October um on the on the cover page. So I started like the on the projected actual comparisons where um just on a monthly basis as we go uh through June just comparing how we're trending um toward ending

049June 30th compared to the five year to the five year but the financial forecast that we approved in October so nothing of significance to report as of now. >> All right. Without any other discussion, we'll move on to our vote. >> Mr. W. >> Yes. >> Mr. Miller. >> Yes. >> Mr. >> Yes. >> Mr. Sher. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Gibson. >> Yes. >> All right. Item number 10 deals with some personnel items. Deon. >> Ready. >> Good evening. The superintendent recommends that the board approve following personnel items 10 A through 10E. >> Second. >> All right. Anything you'd like to add to that? I know there's a lot of things in this. >> Okay. Well, without any other discussion, we'll move on for a vote. >> Mrs. Miller, >> yes. >> Mr. Mundy, >>

050yes. >> Mr. Sh. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Gibson. >> Yes. >> Mr. >> Yes. >> All right. Item number 11 deals with some more personal items with the addendum as well. So Deon, >> the superintendent recommends that the board approve the following personal items. 11A on the agenda and 11B on the agenda. >> So move. >> Second. >> All right. Anything you like to add to this one, >> coaches? Um as you all know uh my right arm has been missing. Lisa has been gone for so um we've fallen behind on certain things and this was one of them. So look at the addendum. There are many coaches that we hoping that you approve. All right. Any other discussion? We'll move on for Mr. Yes. Yes, >> Mrs. Gibson. >> Yes, >> Mr. >> Yes,

051>> Mrs. Miller. >> All right. I'm number 12 deals with um some transportation things. I think is that could be you, Jack? >> Oh, yeah. >> All right. >> Um the superintendent recommends that the board adopt the following payment in lie of transportation resolution. >> So, move second. >> All right. Anything you'd like to add to that? No, just the students are listed on the um attachment a um along with the uh everything else and um that this is just something that's required for us to do each year. >> Um I do have a question. Has this list been growing throughout the last few years or is this pretty typical size list? >> It's been pretty steady the past couple years. Um it took a big jump about three years ago. kind of stayed steady

052from that point on. >> Okay. I was wondering because seems like there's >> it's a pretty considerable list. >> 137 students. So, >> wow. Okay. Um, anyone have any other comments or questions? >> Okay. Well, we'll move on for a vote. >> Mr. Sher, >> yes. >> Mrs. Gibson, >> yes. >> Mr. Gala, >> yes. >> Mr. Miller, >> yes. >> Mr. >> Yes. All right. Item number 13 deals with um on-site support. >> Sure. Um good evening. The superintendent recommends that the board approve the agreement with Montgomery County ESC for on-site support beginning July 1st, 2025 and ending June 30th, 2026 as >> anything you like to add to that? No, just as um I think Brian probably will go over the number of students in category 6 autism just exploded across the county.

053Um and it's staff just need help and um actually Montgomery County ESC has a really good um Louis team that comes out and provides a lot of support to our teachers. Pretty invaluable and save us a lot of money so we don't have to um send students to other facilities to get. >> All right. Anyone have any questions? >> All right. Mrs. Gibson, >> yes. >> Mr. L. >> Yes. >> Mr. Miller. >> Yes. >> Mr. M. >> Yes. Mr. Shocker. >> Yes. >> All right. Item number 14 deals with the empowering to elevation. >> Sure. The superintendent recommends the board approve the agreement with the empowering to elevate beginning October 30th, 2025 and ending August 1st, 2026 as presented. >> So move second. Anything you want to add to that? >> Just contract Montgomery

054County subscal support. >> So is this our first year elevator? I don't recognize the name. >> Yeah, I think it might be one of our first contracts. >> Okay. And then I don't know if you know this answer, but I was wondering because I was reading through it. First off, I think it's funny that they turn student into a client. That's says that there um but um do you know how many students might be using this? >> This is it's just for one student. >> Just one student. I don't know if you guys saw the cost on this thing. All right, that's good. All right, enough for me. Anyone else? All right, further. >> Mr. >> Yes, >> Mrs. Miller. >> Yes, >> Mr. Mr. Yes, >> Mrs. Gibson. >> Yes. >> All right. And

055then item number 15 deals with educational programs for student. >> The superintendent recommends the board approve the agreement with respect to the educational program for student October 28th, 2025, 2026. >> So again Without any other discussion, we'll move for vote. Mrs. Miller, >> yes. >> Mr. M. Yes. Mr. Sh. >> Yes. >> Mr. Gibson. >> Yes. >> Mr. >> Yes. >> Um, and then item number 16, which is our resolution authorizing retail electrical service. I guess that that's all you, Jack. >> Yeah. Uh we recommend the board approve as presented the resolution authorizing the retail electrical service agreement. >> So move second. >> Anything you like to add to that? >> Just our current agreement does not expire till 20 uh till June of 20 27. Um this will extend it one more or yeah

056this will extend one more year into 2028. What we do is by doing that is we go out and we try to lock in our rates. We basically electrical futures. So we lock in our rate at current rates for those upcoming years and we're part of the consortium with EPC so or yeah EPC. So we're all going out there and uh doing this together as a whole. We have I think total there's 135 agencies participating in this consortium for this for electric services. >> Wow. >> So typically we see the rates typically just go up, right? Is that kind of how it's >> correct? And even we saw our own rates go up from our agreement from prior to 2024 they went from about 3 cents a kilowatt hour up to 6 cents. But at

057times in the past we paid upwards of 14 cents per kilowatt hour. So it's a heck of a deal for us to come in here and we're looking to lock these rates in before we see this next ades rate increase come through which will have all of us ready. Wow. >> Can we jump on that? >> Just honestly, the Miami Valley Cable Council, if you live in West Carolton and you're part of that consortium, pretty darn good rates for us. So, as long as they can keep their pretty good rates and they handle a lot of the south suburbs on that, so turns out pretty well for the residents. >> All right. Well, with all that, no other discussion, we'll go for a vote. >> Mr. Yes, Mr. Cher. >> Yes, >> Mrs. Gibson. >>

058Yes, >> Mr. >> Yes, >> Mrs. Miller. >> Yes. >> Okay, so we are done with that. So, we're moving on to comments or reports. Um, the student reps, do you guys have any reports? I think you have a really good report if I'm correct. >> Oh, look at that. >> Okay, so um the girls and I unfortunately was not able to be here tonight, but girls and I have been working very hard at the caring closet. So, we wanted to share what we've been doing and how it's going. >> So, closet and it looks a lot different from when we first started. I don't I couldn't find my original pictures, but um all the racks, so the circle racks, that top right picture, all those circle racks are brand new. Thanks to Angie. She

059helped us get them. >> Um So, we've been working hard. Um, we've made a lot of maintenance requests. There was a shelf in that back right corner. Um, hanging on the walls that's come down and we have a new cube organizer that's going to go up on that. Um, but this is the general what it looks like. Talk more about that. Um, we implemented this in September. So, um, this is accurate as of September 19th through November 3rd. This is, um, the amount of people we have helped and how many items they've used. So, um, this was the main stuff that's been used. Women's shirts, pants or men and women's shirts, pants, shoes, socks, personal hygiene products. You notice there's a lot of those that are being used. So, that's anything from like feminine hygiene

060products to shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste, um, toothbrushes, um, all that kind of stuff. We definitely have people using it and that are in need of it. >> Okay, so our the first one on this is the all new and improved racks. As Kay said, thank you very much, Angie. We have been using them a lot. As you can see, we have a lot of um so on the left of you can see shirts and then the middle is more of the winter stuff and then all the way on the far right you can barely see but that's more of our formal like interview attire if anybody needs that. >> And then we have shelves the one that Hay was talking about that is actually getting put up this week and we will go in next week

061to put all our stuff and our size have helped us a lot by keeping us organized. It's from double extra school to triple >> triple 3x. >> Yeah. Yeah. And we have actually we have clothes in each one of those. So there >> Yeah. They're little circles and they go on the rack and they just say what size they are. So you can organize all of them so they are on the right the right size or on the right place because we go in there every Monday after school to make sure everything's organized and then the laundry room. We got a donations from mom pantry that we got from Judy Brooks and that we have laundry detergent and we have drying sheets just in case they need those as well. And then our mailbox, that

062is where we get all the information. That's where they fill out the checklist. And we, well, Haley picks them up and she organizes all the information to make sure we're being up to date and that we have everything that we need. If we need to get more stuff, what's being used most, if we need to get more stuff of this thing or the other. And then on the bottom right corner, that is our Karen closet, the cont and that's where they can reach us if they need anything. We also got two new emails if you need to reach us for anything regarding the caring closet. It's caring closet at wsd.k12. us. And we also got our own student representative email if you need to contact us regarding something that's not the current closet, but you

063still want to contact your student reps. You can um it has me, Aya, and Haley all I forget his name, but we all have a shared email and we check it every time. It's b studentre at wcsdb.k1 us. >> Oh, and then we got the business card from J. She helped us. >> And then that bottom left corner is our logo that we have made. I think >> that's very nice. I love that. >> And then here's the stuff that we're working on for the car project for we're planning on getting school supplies. Actually, Judy Br is helping us again donating the school supplies and we're working on an updated checklist because we realized that our normal checklist had the vague stuff. So, we're working on like if they get like what sizes are. So,

064we're adding sizes on the new checklist >> and how many of each item is being taken. >> Yeah. And then we are getting more we're working on getting more donations from like local or big businesses seeing if they want to donate stuff for us. And we're also working on a social social media platform such as Facebook, Instagram, and Tik Tok and also our email. And then for example, for the more donations, um I reached out to Sephora and I haven't got anything back, so I'm just going to follow up. But um so I reached out to the one over here closest, I think it's in Kohl's, and I was like, "Would you guys be willing to donate?" You know, I explained what we do and they were like, "We would love to do that. Unfortunately,

065we can't under Cole's policy." So they um referred us to the green and they said that the green would love to help us and do stuff like that. So, we're working on little things like that. Um, donations from Kroger, stuff like that. >> Okay. And then these are goodie bags that went in the parks um two weeks ago. >> So, um yeah, Ava and I put these together. Daniel was not available to help that day. She helped us some planning. Um and then the flyer that you see there was what was in the bag. So everything they got a hairbrush, um, two pairs of socks, and then we had a bunch of like mini hotel to toiletries. So they got a bunch of those. Lotion, toothbrush, toothpaste. Um, I think >> Oh, yeah. And then,

066um, deodorant and then feminine hygiene products. Feminine. So um, we we heard that that really helped a lot of people out. So trying to improve communication and get things to where people Okay. Um, something else we're doing to camping, we are doing a toothbrush drive and that will be next Wednesday um, November 19th at the high school during all lunches. So, it's kind of like the soft drive that Kristen did last year. Basically, um, we have our business cards um, printed on pieces of paper and they're just going to go on the toothbrushes and we'll hand those out at lunches. Um, just trying to get the word out there as as well as announcements on the news. Um, sending emails, like my newsletter, all that goes out. And then, um, just word of mouth talking

067about it. Um, there was some girl the other day that said, "Oh, I need this." And I was like, "Let me help you. We have the car closet." And so any chance I get, I'm like, "I got closet." Carrying closet. Carrying closet. And um, so we take kids down there and help them out anytime we can. The counselors have been a huge help. >> Um, yeah, Miss Alen has helped a lot and um she just works really hard to get kids anyone and everyone in there. >> She also helped the organization like at the beginning when we were still rocking like everything was all over the place. She would stay after school with us and she would go through um clothes that we didn't need, clothes that we would wear, clothes she would fold, she

068was a lot of help. >> Okay, these are things. >> Okay, these are that we need. We need um nice hangers. We ran out of hangers actually because people actually donated coats to us and but there's still more of the formal tire that we got donated. So, we need nice hangers. So, not the like you bought something at Myer >> like the plastic ones are really nice. Those ones things that are just not going to break. I mean, you don't have to spend crazy amounts of money, but something that's going to hold up. >> And we also need legends and more teenage because we have been getting some even for five to eight year olds. I'm not going to say high schoolers. And we need some cheese and we need body sprays. Specifically for the

069body sprays, we need more for boys. We have some for the girls, but I think we only like one spray for the boys. So, we need so like for toiletries because we do >> and a lot of people like those are very easy to access. >> Okay, that's it. Um I do want to say that donation wise um we get a lot of donations and we go through a lot of stuff and out and um we are giving our donations that we can't use. going back to threads. Um, and we took and or she took 10 bags of clothes to threats um two weeks ago, I think. So, not only are we receiving a lot of donations, but the donations that we cannot use, they're going back to. So, I think that's all we have

070for caring closet. Um, and then we have a couple other things, too. You're good. Okay. And then I'll try to make this quick. Um I also um am serving on um the Montgomery County ESC um as a student on the student advisory delegation and that's been a lot of fun. I've been to two of those meetings and I learned so much there. Um, Ava and I do that. And, um, this last week, Preschool Promise came and talked to us and we learned about what they do and, um, how they really help, um, preschoolers. It's crazy what preschool education costs. And so, they are very helpful. Um, and then we talk about college plans. They help out with a lot of that kind of stuff, too. So, it's been very helpful for me, um, because I'm

071sometimes a procrastinator about that stuff. So, getting them to be like, "You need to do scholarships is really helpful." Um, the NHS Christmas party is coming up. Um, we just had Powder Puff through NHS, so that went really well. Seniors won. And um, there's a Nashville trip this weekend um to the for Journalism Education Association. And I'm one of the four chosen to go. I don't know if you guys voted on that when I was here to talk about it, but um Julia um I'm not sure what her last name is. Julia, Nyla Grundy, and Mariah Miles are also going, Miss Earl is going with us. And um Nyla are um competing in broadcast news story. Um Julia is doing broadcast newswriting and I am doing teaching photography. So, um, I already I already submitted

072my photos, but it's a competition. It's kind of like a mini BPA, but for news and photography. So, we'll go for the weekend and hope they all come home with some awards. >> And then lastly, um, Mutiny and Vocal Expressions are two extracurricular music groups. Um, went out and did a tour today um to we went to the I don't know what's this building called the No, this is two floor building. Yes. So, we went to the elementary building and then we went to the intermediate school and we did performances there for them and that was great. And then we also went to local nursing home and did two performances there for them. So, >> that's what I got. >> That's it. >> So, also I have something. Okay. So, um, me, Haley, and I'm

073not so sure about Eva, but we have an OSBA, um, thing that we're going to this following Monday, and we get to express what we do as a student representative, why you should have student representative, and we are we actually had a meeting um, this past Saturday, and we got to work on everything that we're going to say. I think it went pretty smoothly, and I am very excited and hopefully done very smoothly as we all >> you did a super job on Saturday. She held her own head. >> She represented West Carolton very well >> and we had well all the Miami kids were there. All the Centerville kids were there and North only has the one and he was there but poor boy Danny got up there and just >> went at it.

074So >> I was I was at Saturday you were. >> So, it uh we're all excited. Angie and I uh will be in there and uh it should be good. And I I think I would definitely bring your business cards up there. >> Um because there people are going to want to see that. >> Okay. >> And I'm pretty sure none of the others have business cards. >> Maybe next year. closet. There's a session. >> That's a really cool thing for >> we can do that. >> We love a good idea. >> That's a good idea. Yeah. And you guys make sure when you get up there to present, you definitely tell all about that. >> Wow. Wow. Wow. >> Angie, you have anything you want to add to that? I know you're on that

075committee as well >> for the >> further. Sorry, guys. I missed the meeting Saturday. >> She's been covered for me and then she was gone then I was back. So, >> but we really appreciate in general her helping closet cuz she's helped us out a lot. When we first got our racks, they um got them from a friend and so like the circle goes on the rack to do the shelves, but we got a circle for the other rack they had and we had a rack that was for the circle they had. So we had to get them all swapped out. >> Yes. Yes, we did. >> Not that we have to be overly competitive here, but when the student rep started here and we had this round table idea, Centerville kids and their candies

076for comments was cool. It was a cool thing. And now we got it's a proud thing and I'm glad to see how you're taking it to the next level. >> Oh my gosh. >> Actually, I would like to I forgot to say that. Um, we did get Kenny for comments approved by Mr. White. So, >> it's happen maybe they'll take our idea. >> We got to share good ideas. >> I heard thumbs up for comments. >> Yeah. >> Wow. I mean, absolutely incredible, man. That's cool. Okay. Committee reports. Anyone? Well, I have one committee report. I should have two, but I was not fully aware of my calendar and I missed one today. Sorry. Um, but I was at CTC last night. Um, and again, there's a ton of stuff that that really applies to

077CTC. Great school. Things have changed so much since I went to school and CTC was for the kids that weren't going to go to college or were in trouble in school and that is not the case now. I wish that I had known more. I would have pushed my son to go there. Anyways, off my plane. Uh so these are the things that actually pertain to West Carlton that's going on at CTC. Um so they had a veterinarian science junior studentled dog show. Um, and two West Carolton students won first place with a miniature poodle. >> I don't have no details, but I have so many questions. Um, and then, um, of course they do the college credit plus program. Um, they have 28 students, 20 I'm sorry, there are 28 West Carolton students that

078are doing it and they have earned 57 classes. >> Wow. >> Um, and then they did a student ambassador um where the where somebody goes to a different school to talk about CTC and one of our students went to Jefferson. That's all the information I have because that wasn't actually presented, but I thought go Carolton. We're doing great stuff. Um and then there was the DT meeting today that I missed. Would you like to fill us in on some of the things that the highlights Sure. We had a wonderful meeting and we missed you. You were there in spirit >> so we Yes, you were there with us. >> Yes. >> But we had a wonderful meeting. Um it really was a it was a great meeting. We talked about MTSS in the district and

079had great discussions about that. And we also discussed our district walkth through data. Our administrators have been hard at work going into classrooms and giving teachers meaningful feedback. So we took time to discuss that as a team and did some chat stations around the room discussing that walkth through data. So it's just a really productive meeting. We had a great time. >> Good. So there there's that committee report. All right, that's it for you. >> Wow, sounds like you missed a lot that deal. >> Anyone else have any committee reports or >> you want our school reports or >> Yeah, I think this kind of all goes together. >> I've got my high school report then. >> All right, what do we got? >> Um, well, first of all, I want to say thanks to

080the staff at all the schools that are veterans. I think that's very admirable in all of our active military. >> Um for the high school honor roll numbers for first quarter in 2023 there were 28% of the students um that u made honor roll in 24 it was 45% and this year it's 51% of the students made honor roll first quarter. >> Um as we already know we talked about the boys country cross country team took the L division title. Um Morris was recognized as October's teacher of the month. Students stated she is caring, thoughtful, keeps students um confident and excellent allaround teacher. Student of the month, um Landon Smith, Desiree, I think it's >> Tyson um and Justin. 87 seniors have started their FASA applications. 13 completed entire process. So, it's off to a

081great start. And the photos of the new baseball field were shared by the high school baseball fields of America on social media. This account has a large social media following and post photos of the best uh baseball fields from around the world. >> Oh, wow. >> So, that was pretty cool. High school and middle school cheerleaders competed at Miami Valley League championships at Butler High School. Middle school finished third in traditional and second in game day. Um and spring sports start have started workouts with strength and conditioning. >> Great updates. This just gets better and better. >> All right, either of you guys, I know >> yours was kind of busy today, so You didn't have much to add, I'm sure. All right. Well, funny enough, I don't have um Are we considering the uh

082strategic? Are you going to talk about it? >> You can go ahead. I can >> I mean, I'm not going to talk too much about it because I may brought my notes. So, I forgot. >> So, then why don't you let it >> Yeah, it was it was good. It was a really good I'm trying to remember, but sadly not. Yeah, I'll leave it to you. >> Thank you. >> Yeah, because I don't want to mess it up. >> It was really good though. >> So, we had our strategic plan meeting. It was number two. That's all I have to say. No, I'm kidding. I'm sorry. No, it was our second session where we reviewed our um data from the community survey. We did our presentation on the state of the district which I did

083share with the board. So, >> excellent presentation. >> Yeah, that's it. very good. >> Um, we firmed up our vision and mission statements, but I think we were going to still have a little bit of tweaking on those and started to go into what we're going to focus on. So, our next meeting is in January. Um, great turnout again. Um, very pleased with the community members and their commitment to coming. So, um, and staff and great variety of people. >> Really impressive. >> So, the food next meeting, uh, it's my choice for dinner because my birthday is the day before, so I get to think, I was told. Um, but no, it's just been a really good process and, um, just everybody putting their ideas up and then coming to consensus. So, we will continue

084through set our goals and our um plan on how we're going to meet those and who will be responsible. So, two more meetings to go. >> And it is it's your report was absolutely incredible. And it it's funny because like on the school board you kind of you kind of just know a lot of things just over time you learn. But like I learned so much through that and it was just a really eye opening experience on how incredible our school district is, which I always think that way, but like to see everything that we're up against and to see the amazing things that we continue to do here day in and day out with our teachers and our community. I mean, it is really, really uplifting to see. So, I really did appreciate that.

085That was an awesome awesome presentation. >> They said it was the best one they've ever seen. That means that is what they said. Yeah, they did >> which is good because everybody helped. So it was definitely a team effort and um I really appreciated >> being able to share that. >> I'm sure everyone did step in and say something. It really was. It was fantastic. So and I guess uh it is ears for comments. So if you just want to keep on going >> I'll keep on going. Um, so the student presentation, if you are coming to OSBA, it's at 4:00 on Monday in room B230 and 2:32 on the second floor. So, it's in the booklet as of or as of when Jack looked for me. I asked I was so happy he knew.

086Um, I'd like to congratulate Eric Chrys on his two awards today. He's supporting everything um that helps our kids, which is fantastic. I'd also like to thank the principles who were here to support Eric. Um, and I'd like to congratulate our students who received their athletic awards. >> Great. >> Amazing. I walked out of that room and I was like, "Oh my god." So, it was wonderful to have everybody here. Um, Thanksgiving break is coming up soon and before we know it, it'll be the end of second quarter and first semester right around the corner. So, and girls, great job on the caring closet. It looks amazing. That used to be our our room. I It looks like a store. I'm so proud of you guys. So, good job. >> That's all I have. >>

087All right. Ryan, do you have anything to add? Comments from treasure? >> Just following up on the strategic planning. Uh I gave you uh two pieces of paper uh two slides um that were in the that we presented to the strategic planning just general information on our enrollment and state funding. Um first page shows the kindergarten enrollment um going back to October of 2012 and um just pointed out that four of the last six years have been um relatively low compared to prior years obviously and um just the obvious point that you know enrollment affects our staffing and our school funding as we move forward. Um and then on the second page um just at the top is information on our K12 uh the funded enrollment from the state and just pointing out that you

088know the last three years you know on average we're down about 90 student about 93 students per year average the last three years. So hopefully that will start leveling off in the future. in the middle of the page um is just information regarding K12 enrollment in terms of uh the six different categories of special needs. You can see that on the total line we've stayed right around that 600 number and you know a lot of the conversation at the strategic planning is just um just talking about the different categories of this kids with special need and especially category six um as as Becky mentioned um you know which are the most um can be like the most needy and most costly um students and just the the large on that line. Um about a month

089ago that that number this year was 89 and it's so it's now 93. Um so that's monitor that as we move forward. Then down at the bottom is just um a summary of our state funding which falls into our financial forecast. Um state foundation is almost you know our general fund revenue is around $51 million. So our state funding is about is almost half of our total general fund revenue and down at the bottom is just pointing out that um when I did the forecast in mid October for this year I was estimating 24.6 million um since we are down um 87 students this year um it looks like our funding if that stays the same then our funding will be about 358,000 less than that 24.6 And then um so that will affect the

090estimate for for FY27 going forward. So um we'll update the financial forecast in midFebruary but um obvious state funding is is one of the biggest variables in the forecast and um just a heads up on on how that is looking compared to the numbers that I had about a month ago from the forecast. That's it. Fantastic, Ryan. And this is fantastic information, too. So, I really do appreciate it. Also, just very quickly, I want to give Ryan a little bit of kudos. He he set the the board you guys got the the demographics and how that's changed over the past what's in 15 years. And I I know Devin was at the table during our strategic plan when I was just talking about it. And it it's incredible how much has changed in the last

091101 15 years here in this district. I mean everything has changed and especially the the poverty and like the the what is it the economically disadvantaged has totally different now almost I think 25% more which is just mindboggling. So thank you Ryan for sending that over to us because that really is incredible. So all right, we have no comments from either of our associations. So we move right on to our office staff. Whoever wants to start, >> thank you for >> I wanted to congratulate our our various sports teams, cross country team, soccer team. Um, and definitely commend the middle school and each brave student that stepped up to the mic and and spoke. I know that can be uh quite difficult. and and certainly commend the leadership of um Eric Chrysik. Personally, I met

092Eric when he was a junior in college >> and he did his student teaching in the building where I was a principal. Um watching his maturation and and growth as an administrator is I think really pretty remarkable. I think he's a good a great principal to have in the district and and I think that was the kids were uh the teachers were a testament to his leadership. wanted to come in. >> Um, similar to what Devin said, really impressed with our sports teams this fall, particularly cross country and our soccer players and um, big shout out to Eric. I don't think we um highlight the work that he does with our huge push for MTSS was a huge focus today in our DT um but really have been expanding it with academics and he and

093Brad at Kobe actually have um had a solid foundation and model of MTSS for behavior for years and Eric has taken it to next level with providing all the social emotional support um for our students and really focusing on his data um to support the kids that are in the building. So, it's a welldeserved award for him. >> Dr. >> Yeah, must sound like an echo here, but um I do I want to congratulate Eric on his award just so welld deserving and and just his leadership and and what he shared today too in our meeting. um with his work on MTSS as well as Brad, but just want to echo what my colleague shared with with Eric. Um and then also just the student leadership that we saw tonight that just, you know, just

094made my heart smile. And student voice and student leadership is so incredibly important. And wow, what a bright future we have. And to see our student reps up here talking about the caring closet. You all are incredible. >> I mean, really, I'm just so inspired by your hearts >> and your kindness. I wish I were you, honestly. Um just the amount of time >> and effort that you have put in to the caring closet and thought it really is incredible. So you all are just amazing. >> So I just I'm so proud of you and I'm so glad that I get to know you. So keep shining because Fabulous. So, keep going. Okay. So, I wanted to point that out. The other thing, I know I have so many things to share. I went to

095the family steam night last night and getting to interact with all of our families and just seeing all of our staff there. Um, it was such an amazing event. It was so fun. The turnout was great and We had right state student volunteers there and we had national honor society student volunteers. It was a beautiful event. So I just feel like I'm kind of on this, you know, amazing. It's just been an amazing week of of things just to share. Um and then we had that productive DT meeting today, too. So it was great. So yeah, thank you all. for being so great. >> Nice. All right, Mr. Egg, top it off. >> I don't know if I can top it off. >> I mean, do you want a hug? >> Yes. >> The I

096I will say um you know, a lot of times we get the younger students come in and they're just so cute and so fun. Now we get to see what they become when they grow up. And you got to see the shine tonight. And tonight was all about the students and the staff shining and we got to be part of it. And I think that's a great thing to see. A lot of people, you read the news and you read the newspaper, you hear about the negatives. >> Tonight, we saw all the positives that are going on in our district. I'm proud to live in this community. I'm proud that these kids grew up here. It's not just the kids. It takes a long a good support system to help help grow them into what

097they are. And that's our staff and our teachers. and it's their family and it's their background, their community that helps raise them. And I think that's a a shout out to our district. And then um I know John has one more meeting in December. >> I'm not going to wait. I'm going to get it out of the way now because you're going to have everybody talk about you, John. John, I appreciate you. Thank you for everything you've done for our district. um you spoke up before you were on the board and you and you you led to some change and it's hard for one person to stand up, let get their voice to be heard and then do what it takes to do to see some change happen and you did it and um I

098commend you for that and for all the work you've done for our community with pirate packs and all the hours and the time you put in here for the school board. And um I'm going to say this week. So next week I'll just say or next board meeting I'll just say you know and you know. Okay. So but thank you very much for everything you've done and I appreciate you for that. >> Thank you. >> Wow man. This just gets better and better this table next week. >> Next month. Yeah. Um we have no general comments from the public. So uh we'll move right on to board members. You know, we're just talking about John. We want to have John start. >> Thanks a lot. Right after hearing that, I got to talk. Thank you,

099Jack. Um, I have two things to share. Pierax is is moving up a little bit. See slowly climbing to not like normal yet still, but that's all right. Um, we have a lot of people coming to help us. I want to a lot of community members, a lot of students. We have an Oakland student right now. We brought a friend now as well, another Oakland student to come and pack with us >> whose mom I believe, >> yes, >> is a staff member here. >> Yes. >> So, there's a link here, but still, these kids go to Oakwood High School. There's two females and one of them is coming three times, I want to say, and is actually an NHS student, so she's getting credit, service credit. So, just a reminder out there that if

100you do need service credit, Pirate Pack is about an hour of credit when you come. You might stay um 45 minutes to an hour. We we'll give you that hour of credit. We don't want you hurt because we get done faster because there's a full room full of volunteers. But we do appreciate the students who come and help us. And we got Girl Scouts that come. We got just a plethora of groups that come and help us. We couldn't do this nearly as well without their help. So, it's very appreciated. And then I'm going to talk about Dr. towns for a minute. As you've all heard the last few meetings, I've kind of picked on folks because it's just going to be too hard to go through everybody in December. So, I want to publicly

101thank you for all the things you do for the district and the relationship we've had in the eight years I've been here. Um, when I was, as Jack mentioned, when I was coming and speaking to the board before getting elected, it was Rusty Clifford's superintendent seat. And, uh, he was certainly charismatic person, but I'm certainly glad you're our leader right now. I think you're the you're here at the right time and certainly in the future. Hopefully, you'll be here a lot longer. just want to thank you for all the time and effort and all the things that you mentioned some of the things that have changed and a lot of those things that I wanted to see happen happened partly because of you. So I just want to appreciate you for all the the security

102we have in this district now and obviously the the bond which is shockly here had a lot to do with helping us get that passed but >> a lot of people did but I just appreciate you glad the district's in your hand as I Wow, that's all I got. >> Angie, would you like to go next? >> Um, I already shared my report. Um, also I should have thanked Devin for his service. Um, as you all know, I'm very big about the military. So, um, thank you for your service. I know many people appreciate that. and um looking forward to we're going to OSB this this weekend. Looking forward to that. And that's all that I have right now. I'm just so proud of all of our students. What a showing tonight. So impressive. And

103I want to give a little shout out to the girls. They they talked a long time about a few things they've done, but I can't tell you how much more there is that they have done over there. >> They are all hours. I was over there dropping stuff off a couple times to Haley I think at 9 10 9:30 after a concert or whatever. So they're working their little tails off. So they have really shined and really done a great job. All the great ideas they have coming up. They've not even shared half of them. So they're doing a wonderful job. Proud of you guys. >> All right, you want to go next? We're just bouncing back. >> All right. So, you may have seen me scratching. I had a list and most people have

104hit some of this. So, ditto for all the other ones, but they already been said. Here are a few. I mean, student reps, I mean, you have to say something. You guys, you girls are amazing. I am so proud to sit next to you and listen to everything you guys do. And I am just biggest cheerleader. Um, now I have to trash that one off. Um, I do have a request. I know at the beginning of the year we had talked about um how we get our CTC kits >> more involved this especially towards the end of the year um and before we know it that's going to be here >> right >> so I am going to give you one more thing to work on um and then let me know since I am

105the CTC rep if you if I can be of any help if there's anything I can do provide let me know >> okay sounds good >> um and I am I know mentioned OSBA. Um, super pumped. It is a wonderful, wonderful event. Um, I learned have learned so much from going to that. Um, the work the hardest thing is figuring out which sessions you're going to go to, you know. So, I know Nate and I in the past have kind of tag team one. Okay, I'll get this one, you go that way, and we'll exchange notes. So, I'm sure we'll be doing that again. Um, we I want to thank Angie. We did the U on October 23rd. It was the um ECC trunk or treat. Um there were pirates abroad that night. Um so

106uh that was so much fun. The kids had great time. Um and I know a lot of people mentioned the student student leadership tonight. They all did a wonderful job. Um but there were a few that stepped up there with no notes. >> And I'm like, you go because that's hard to I have notes. That's hard to do. Um, so I'm sure that they watched this afterwards. Um, but I just thought that that was so amazing that they could just stand up there. Did they stutter? Yeah. But you know what? They did it. And so good for you. Um, and and I and that kind of goes back to you guys. You guys have just just blossomed so much. Remember your stuttering when you first got here and not sure. Now you are grabbing this

107thing and going with it. Um, and then I want I want to thank all the Pirate Pride Award members, the award recipients. That's the word I was going. It's been a long day, folks. Um, thank them. And I did want to mention there was a lot of those that were given tonight. So, John, you might want to see if anybody dropped any on the way out on the way back because there was so many given out, you might just be able to get one. >> Yeah, maybe a couple. You know, I mean, I check the check check the parking lot. It could happen. >> I saw Mr. Whitley with the bag. >> My son Nathan had to rub it in when he got his and show it to me up close so I could see

108exactly what I was not getting. >> Maybe you should take a picture of yours and send it to him so he knows what he's missing. >> Well, >> I have two. >> Maybe I'll give you one of them. >> You have to earn it. >> Yeah, you have to earn it. >> I'm Oh, that's it. >> Yeah, that's it. That's it. It's >> ended on a burn for John. He only has one more left. >> You got to get him in. >> Yeah, that make you count. >> Great. >> Leslie, what do you got? >> Okay. Well, um, first of all, I want to congratulate our sports teams. Um, the cross country team. Wow. >> Um, my son was on the cross country team long long ago and they did well, but they didn't do

109this well. This this is outstanding. Um they're uh they have done far more. It sounds like the entire team was intricately involved in all of their their runs, which is was very difficult to do. Um I have a granddaughter that's currently running cross country, so I'm first in cross country and and their coach is wonderful. He is just a great guy and he has really motivated the the team to where they're at right now. Um, a shout out to Mr. Cre. Um, that is my school. Yeah. Um, they they do wonderful things over there at the middle school. Yes, they do. Um, I didn't know any of those things even more this morning, but I do now. And I'm so happy for them. >> I love that last sentence out, you know. >> Yeah. Yeah.

110Um, they did a great job and all the kids coming forth and the food drive over 2,000 items. Good grief. That's wonderful for all the families here. Um, let's see here. Um, first of all, the u the student reps program wouldn't be here without you, John. You started it a long time ago. Um, I had wanted to do it before you even got on board and was kind of shot down and then you came on board and said you wanted to and I said, "Hey, hey, I want to do that, too." And we started it together. So, this is that has and I was going to do this on Monday in front of everybody up there, but now you're going to be there. So, I decided to do it here in front of everyone else.

111So, >> yeah, I am. Um, I I really appreciate you bringing this forward. Um, we have had lots of great reps over the years and they have done wonderful things and these guys are just product. They just keep getting better and better as they go on. Um, and I'm going to be so proud of them on Monday. It's they're gonna shine like no other. And uh, so you you started a really wonderful thing and I'm I'm thrilled to be able to carry it forth and help me over here and we'll we'll just proceed on. But you were the uh, instigator of all all of this good stuff that happened. You're welcome. Thank you. Um I have to My tennis courts, Jack, my tennis courts are gorgeous. >> Wow. >> Yes. I'm so excited. Um I

112can't wait for tennis season. >> Uh I I'm so excited. Um we're the girls and I were having our awards ceremony the first week of December. We could not get together, but I'm getting the at South Regency again and we're going to start working with Ann over there and in getting their footwork going and then we'll be able to get out there and use those tennis courts. I just >> look for those warm days. >> I know. I know. But but it'll come. Um but and and happy Thanksgiving to everyone and hopefully if you're traveling, be safe and we'll we'll see you in the summer. Fantastic. All right. So, man, this is it seems like today has just been like a celebration of all the amazing things that we have done as a community, as

113a school, as parents. Um, it's just been a celebration. So, I've just been so happy about that. I wanted to uh start off with my quote and then dive in from there. Um, >> no, once once you say the quote, we're done. >> No, we're changing up the case. Look, I got so much to say. Look, I'll be fast. We cannot wait a minute. Wait a minute. This is fantastic information. You guys are going to love this. So, the quote is fantastic. And uh you'll see why I said this quote. Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. Anyone know who this is? We didn't pass it uh to our children in our bloodstream. It must be fought for, protected, and handed on for them to do the same. And when, of course,

114it's Ronald Reagan. So, >> be wrong. So, >> I uh the reason why I say that is, of course, yesterday was Veterans Day. And I really did want to thank uh our vets, our teachers, our administrative staff that has served this country for us. Um it's it's amazing how, you know, that freedom like said, you know, you have to keep on fighting for it and something that we take for granted so often here, but so so valuable for us to remember and um you know that everything even like with our elections, you I mean we we just had a fantastic election uh good turnout surprisingly. Um so thank everybody not just here but wherever you live for voting and playing a part in that and uh I'm going to keep on going. No, we're not

115there yet. Um, I wanted to also mention uh that November 18th, mark this on your calendars, um, at at 6:30 p.m. in the community room for city council, like the city council chamber room, they're having a meeting for the Wilson pool. So, I think they're thinking about doing upgrades and things like that. So, for those who swim or whatnot that has any interest in the Wilson Park pool, uh, they're having a community uh, meeting. And I also wanted toh say um in West Carolton they have new uh deputy chief of police Alexander Flynn. >> So I wanted to publicly congratulate him on that. >> Um nope. And then uh I wanted to also say >> who was he actually >> are you serious? >> Great football player. >> I didn't know that. >> Look west

116Carol more amazing things. Let's just get >> 05 0 something like I don't know those years run together after a while you know something like that. >> Oh wow time >> I didn't know that. >> Okay that's really cool. This this meeting is fantastic. Um so I wanted to say thank you to Meer for donating that $500 gift card to the food drive. It's really neat to see how businesses can work with the community on creating big uh differences for people and especially now, which of course things are starting to get a little bit better, but it it got a little dicey there for some folks. So, I mean, that's a big deal. Um, and Jack said it best. Um, to all those who got the awards, um, to all the students that was in

117this room, this packed room that's now very empty. Um, Jack, you said absolutely best. that it really does take a village to make that happen. And I mean, we have talked about awards after awards after celebrations and all these different things that we have done to celebrate these students and to celebrate the amazing work that they put in. Finally, we can physically see the great things that are happening here and not the hogwash that's over social media or things like that. Like, this is what we need to be celebrating. I wish we could post this on social media, but no one to to the five people watching, I'm not counting you, but to all the other folks, they should be watching things like this because this is what the community is. It's these people that

118was in this room tonight and not whatever they want to talk about on social media. Um, I also wanted to say the caring closet. Wow. I mean, first off, that was a beautiful presentation. Second off, beautiful logo. I mean, everything that you guys have touched has turned to gold. I mean, you guys are mightest. I'm telling you. And it is just so neat because I remember that passion when we started this closet, right? I I wanted something for these kids and I'm so passionate about it. And for you guys to build that passion, not to get emotional, for you guys to build that passion is so cool to me because this is why this is why we do this. And I know from those stats up there that there's a kid that benefited also that

119got a hygiene product that they didn't have and that they got the opportunity to be like another kid so they could just focus on education, not focus on if they stink or if they even have the hygiene product to do what they need to do or pants or whatever, you know, and that's why we have that closet. >> So for you guys to not just take this and make something of it, you guys took it in and to build that passion. I mean, I hope you guys know that you guys are changing lives here, and there's something absolutely beautiful in that, and I really do thank you for having that same passion that I did when we started this. Um, okay, I probably should have done that a little bit later. OSBA, uh, OSBA, I'm

120so excited for you guys, >> but look, we're look, it's nominated pocket. Um, so OSBA is going to be really exciting. I'm so excited to see the amazing work you guys do. Um, this is both your guys' first time doing this, right? >> So, are you guys nervous? >> No, you are. >> I'm kind of nervous for like how it goes, but we have everything ready this round. I'm going >> You guys are going to kill it. And I'm telling you, you're going to see a full room. I can guarantee it. But you know what? All those people is going to listen to every word that you say and they're going to bring that to their homes and make their communities better. Be proud of that. Especially when you're up there. every word you say,

121they're going to write it down. They're going to really make something of it. And that's because you guys are the head start for that. You're the spearhead. Be really excited about that. There's something really cool in that. All right. And then last thing, last thing in I was going to show this. I already chose my uh my classes. So, uh Lori, whatever you choose, uh I get first pick. >> I know. I'm ahead of the game this time. So, um last thing, and I'll be very quick. >> The last thing you said last thing. Yeah. >> No, no, no, no. One more last thing very quickly. We We won't have the conversation tonight about it, but Tom Young, I want to give him the information. Tom Young was asking me about this adapted sports handout.

122I think it's a great idea. I also understand that there's a lot to come with it. So, it's a very deep conversation. Of course, it comes with money. Not tonight. But, I at least wanted to give you guys the information. So, I'll pass it over to you. Um, and I think it'll be cool to give uh people more opportunity and oh, I will also be seeing one of these games and uh I like to invite you guys to also go because I don't really know what this is actually about. So, >> okay, >> somebody said it for God's sake. >> I think we all should give a shout out to the sign on the new sign on that. >> Oh, yeah. >> You have not driven by. >> Please make sure you drive by. It

123is gorgeous. >> Drive by at night. Drive by at night. It is awesome. I mean, That was the committee. That was >> That was the committee. >> There's a whole committee that chooses this stuff. It's not me. It's a whole bunch of people involved. >> Man, that sign is gorgeous. >> Awesome. So, >> yes. Yes. Yes. >> I'm sorry. >> No, that's fine. Uh, yes. >> Yes. >> Okay. So, >> Lori moved. >> Second. >> All right. Um, >> Mr. G. >> Yes. >> Mr. Yeah. I'll vote. Thank you guys. Have a good night.
