004that was fun the next item on our agenda is the board reorganization the board of education is required to reorganize by electing officers for the coming year and it's recommended that the officers will be elected with the effective date beginning January 9th today 2023 and continuing until January 8 2024 or until the next officers are elected the first officer to be appointed is the president of the board are there nominations second are there further nominations any discussion any discussion if there are no further nominations we can take a vote um all those in favor of Wendy Mustin presiding as president of the board please say aye aye those opposed nay yes have it and I thank you very very much thank you thank you for your trust in me and I am going to take
005just a moment of personal privilege to say that this is a new year and we have a new board and we see as a policy making group we see things happening in different places in our country um even in the federal government that make it very difficult to govern and I just want to say that all of us every single person sitting in on this diet believes in providing safe and clean functional environment for our students and our staff providing an overall sense of safety security and well-being for all of our students and providing our Administration our teachers with the tools they need to teach our children to their Highest Potential we will manage the fiscal responsibility so that those policies can unite Us in those efforts and it is so wonderful to work with

008some are required by Statute we have a representative the board always has a representative to the our Township Foundation the Lawrence Township Foundation uh Miss Lawrence already serves on that Foundation um and has for some time but we will also appoint as our board representative Miss Amy Norman and they will serve together on the Lawrence Township Foundation meetings tomorrow night on Zoom 6 30. thank you we will be appointing appointing a liaison to the Indiana School Board Association I um it's it's an important Association for us and through that membership we're also members of the National School Board Association and we have learned a lot through the years and I think members of that Association have learned a little bit from us so Miss Lawrence if you would please be the liaison to that group
009I would appreciate it very much that would be my pleasure thank you thank you very much and we'll be pointing Lawrence Parks and Recreation board member Miss Puckett would you be willing to be our Lawrence Parks and Recreation board representative absolutely thank you very much we're going to have a talk about the dog park all right and now I will leave this to Dr Smith Dr Smith will appoint our policy committee chair and the legislative committee I'm honored to do that Madam president uh as all board members know you are all responsible for policies one of the main statutory responsibilities of the board of education but we need a lead with your Administration to assure that our policies are well done Tim harsbarger Dr hoshbarger out there is my liaison as superintendent and full-time policy
010Guru okay and uh Miss Dunn we asked would you serve as our lead I have to ask her because she's one of my bosses so would you serve as our board lead for our policy committee and then Madam president our legislative committee over the years this has spawned into a full-time job for the entire Board of Education so I'm going to ask Madam president that all of our board members serve on this committee as we have relationships with our current uh our Lawrence Township let's state legislators but also legislators across the state our lobbying groups and as well as our professional organizations that we belong to so all board members be ready to serve and that starts today okay I don't know if I have to do this or not but I'm going to recommend

012on what you're looking here is that West in entrance and uh Media Center going up uh Lauren Central the media center this is the art area and the family and consumer Arts area that is being built uh site improvements continue of course with the weather ways to be in with the rain it's kind of slowed that down but Phil is coming in LC pool foundations of course the foundation continues on you'll notice this is an actually the North End of the pool which the next slide shows you that starting next month the North End sides will be delivered and we'll start erecting the the pool walls ln3 story continues on you'll see a lot of classrooms on the second third floor are equipped the three-story again moving down and through the first floor and also
013the center entrance way continues on LM pool the deck around the outside the pool is poured but we will also continue with the deck and the south end of the pool as you can see some additional slides there uh the new HVAC and mechanical room massive and the pool and projects continue on and of course the middle schools uh continue on with uh HVAC upgrades and also as you recall last board meeting moving forward with the Middle School Renovations the bids will go out this month are there any questions for Mr Smith no if you could remind us actually of the move-in day for our lovely three-story building for Ellen Lawrence North we're looking at February 13th the week of we do have a long weekend that weekend that will give teachers and staff uh
014extra time if you will to move set up prior to the 20 seconds of students return thank you sir I have a question we we did have a few water issues over the break with a very cold weather how are we doing with that um I have to say I I'm very proud of our maintenance a custodial and course or uh director of operations monitoring their buildings we had minimal damage and what little damage we did have we've been on it and the schools are back together we're back together receiving students last week so thank you very much for watching over that during that cold weather because we were on it wasn't even it was even when we were on break and you had to make sure people were there watching watching out for us
015so thank you for that okay now um before before this next item 4.2 request for proposal for Architects for the new lecc project we will present the information this evening and then in our action items we will ask you to approve that is rare we usually have our information items and we don't have approval of those information items until the next month this is a rare circumstance in which we um the board the previous board approved the funding for this but we had to wait until the bonds we were approved to to set up sell the bonds so now that that's been approved timing is of the essence so on rare occasions like this where an item has already basically been approved we can move forward with the both the information and the request for
016action so Mr Smith Madam president and Dr Smith members of the board yes we do request to seek approval to send out a request for proposal for an architect for the new lecc facility on the fort the RFP would be sent out tomorrow with the proposals submitted back on the 25th in interviews for The Architects on the 27th the board recommendation for architect would be then on February the 6th the overall timeline would be to move into the new facility approximately mid to end of 2024. this is a process we do for every project January 4th was the notice of the date that we had no remonstrance against this project thus giving the uh the go-ahead to move forward with selecting an architect and then in February March we will select a CMC that will
017build the team to work with us in order to design the project thank you Mr Smith could you remind the public on all hundreds of them that are listening this evening what CMC is construction management contractor they will oversee the actual build on the day-to-day of the project thank you very much so we accept that as information Now we move on to our action items we're zipping along this hummus would be proud of me okay so the approval of the request for the proposal for architecture of leucc project um do we have um Roger Smith would you please um make your recommendation to the board Madam president Dr Smith members of the board would recommend you approve the RFP for architect for the new lecc facility as submitted [Music] so all those in favor please

020no idea what that means so you just stand under the basket I can do that I can do that Jessica you a fool laughs well I appreciate the warm welcome from all of you um you know it's been a long time uh and you know being associated with Lawrence Township Schools I'm as uh our new president um Madam president Mustin um uh mentioned I've served on the Lawrence Township Foundation committee board for many years now and I'm looking forward to continuing to serve one thing that I do want to call out is you know this is our first meeting and the first time that I have the opportunity to think publicly all those people who had the opportunity to vote for us but not just that for the amount of people who were interested and
021engaged in being part of this board our competition for these seats not only were some of the classiest individuals I have ever had the privilege to meet but also people who care passionately about this District I just want to thank them publicly and put on record for uh or their their you know pushing forward and their interest in helping serve this community I hope that all those that were part of this race will continue to to do so and be part of this community and continue to further um our our kids in this District so thank you all for the warm welcome looking forward to serving this community here here very well said and Miss Dunn thank you madam president yes I would like to take a moment and just express my gratitude first of
022all um to this board for the incredibly warm welcome and to superintendent Smith as well as tashila thank you so much for just welcoming us and embracing us with swag and all the great stuff um I also want to extend my gratitude to you all for taking the time um to really meet with us and and share with us the wonderful work that Lawrence Township is doing um as a resident of this district for the past 25 years and a mother of children who have seen firsthand the spectacular work that is going on in our Lawrence Township Schools it is truly an honor to be able to represent this community as well as to hopefully utilize some of the strengths that I have in education um to to support those of us that are working

024of time these individuals sitting here at the desk put in uh this is the formal business part of what they do as board members they're representatives of the community not just here but in the community and extending out with our legislators our business Community they have a lot of responsibility so congratulations to those of you who were elected those of you returning we have a lot of responsibility we do because we oversee the sixteen thousand children that attend our schools and it's it's a very Noble honorable but it's a hard hard job that we have to do and I just have to remind you today is the beginning of the Indiana General Assembly which means our focus is on what happens downtown on Capitol Street and we will certainly be attuned to the needs of
