to go ahead and step up to the front where everybody can see you so this year we've got a a mix of old faces and new faces we've got some returning seniors seniors raise your hand this is their fourth year doing decathlon and they've just improved every single year um we would be lucky to have a senior as good as any one of them any given year and to have three and well four because one couldn't make it uh for Community night um we consider ourselves very very lucky we've also got uh a few freshmen on the team freshman raise your hand the freshman class this year has produced a really incredible amount of talent a bunch of them have signed up for the various different teams and we're really really grateful to have them
um and we have some other new faces as well we have Mr Jameson Krab as well as some other students who couldn't be here tonight and we're we're really grateful that they've joined us um we had our state competition a few weeks back at Indiana State University uh while we were there we got to meet the dean of education and compete and the students hard work that they put in all year year um this year really really shown through everyone's scores were up across the board um scores overall were up by about 10% um Megan Johnson here collected uh gold medals in nine out of the 10 events um Emma heacock who couldn't join us tonight set a new record for my time during coaching for a single score in a single event um they've
all done such a fantastic job and worked so hard this season I'm incredibly proud of all of them and let's give them a round of applause for their [Applause] achievement thank you get anybody want to say something real quick no all right thank you you can go back and you can be seated thanks for being here tonight they mentioned Emma heacock uh I wanted to put a plug in we've got our community night going on tonight for and I tell you what border anybody that's interested we're having a fine artarts celebration tomorrow morning 10:00 a.m. John rwood and gymnasium they're doing one tonight and that's where em is at but anybody wants to come in Tom Mark 10 we will uh we'll be celebrating have performances by Band Orchestra choir Winter Guard uh indoor percussion
some Student Activities so we'll have some fun in there tomorrow at 10 o'clock uh let's see who we got where Justine you want to come up Justine uh our head coach MHS dance state champions two times in a row and watch you one other thing I want to put a plug in what when kayb was here we had the night we had the robotic Showcase in the Fieldhouse we also hosted as we mentioned we're getting the decathlon going again just like the good old days of Wayne babbit and Denny Lynn and Mike Maxwell and all them but we hosted a big shebang in John rwood and gymnasium when we turned it in you'd think it was a Jeopardy TV set or something like that screens to keep score uh the performances on the floor Spectators
we use the whole I was very proud of us being able to run and host that and I you know something else I mentioned I was I was I was proud of our people and the kids and the behavior and things and sometimes you don't see that all the time and some of the people coming in or whatever but the politeness of our people and our coaches that night how well they did uh you know that stuff and being a good citizen is just as important as reading and writing arithmetic so Justine tell us a little bit about MHS dance dancers you can go up if you want and Riley is the assistant coach she can come over here so we've had I think an amazing season overall we've competed at state three years in
a row the first year we were third in jazz and third in hipop and then last year we added Palm to the mix we ended up getting first at state for jazz and second for hip hop which was a huge accomplishment and then this year our goal was to double title for hip hop and Jazz and we did that so we are super excited about that and We snuck into third with palm so that was very exciting as well we have seven seniors this year you guys want to raise your hand you can we're missing our manager Evelyn but this has just been a great group our scores have been excellent every year we compare our scores to see where we're at and gauge everything and what we do is we have to compete at
four invitationals it's required and then that is how you have to qualify for regionals to get a certain score and all of our scores were higher this year than they were last year so that was great and we are actually undefeated for hip hop we got first at every single competition and got first at regionals and at state which was crazy I don't know how we did it but we did it and then for jazz we were also undefeated but we got second one yeah so it was a great year for us um the trick was not peing too soon these dancers train a lot some of them are in the studio too 20 hours a week sometimes so it's been a good balance to try to you know push good work ethic but also
rest and good mental health but they've been an amazing group they work really well together together they really care about each other and I think it shows on the floor so I want to thank them for also making this season great and do you have anything um I would also say thank you because you guys have been such a great group to work with and we always feel like it's impossible like how are we going to top ourselves every year and it can put a lot of pressure on us and on you guys but you guys have taken it like pros and you worked super hard and really every time you guys hit the floor whether that was football games or basketball games or practices you guys have given 100% all year and that's really
all we could ask for you guys are very driven and you have great work ethic and you're just great humans and we love that even more than how great of dancers you are so thank you guys so much we love you thank you thanks guys gals and you know what I'll ask J and Caleb I this is a train this is a did you guys have any problems with the kids on the bus or during any of the TR travels trips or anything like that no any problems with any of the kids at the competitions Behavior or anything like that other than a first class operation no so I think that's as important as anything that the life skills and mentioned being good human beings is going to carry your far than farther in life
than like I say the reading and writing and arithmetics so thank you thank you very much and and I want to remind you 10 o'clock in the morning if you got time come by we'll have some you'll see kids having fun the entire student body having fun well behaved having some fun at school tomorrow at 10: I call Kayla back up to introduce our quizo team also outstanding great job come back Caleb and Mr Bell Gabby is here so let's make sure we get her here all right quiz Bowl students come on up it's going to be a lot of familiar faces so quizbowl is new to MHS this year when the year started we didn't have any equipment any of that we started the team from scratch um it's a growing sport in Indiana
so I figured Martinsville should get in on the action um and we had a lot of our excellent students who participated in all of our other academic competitions also sign up for this we had so much interest that we were actually able to field two teams and our varsity team in their first year of being a team qualified for the state finals um we went there a few weeks ago at Purdue University and we competed every match was super close um and our last match came down to uh sudden death and overtime and our team was able to clinch that win in the very last very last question um as uh before we've got two seniors there's um third Emma heok who wasn't able to make it tonight um again they're all extremely gifted extremely
talented and hard workers um we have Alex Cook who wasn't able to make it this year he's a freshman and has been performing you know beyond his years and has been a great asset to the team and then we have Abram Paulie uh who anybody know who knows Abram knows that he's an absolute Powerhouse um probably the best geography player in the state and is ranked fifth uh in the state of Indiana for quiz Bowl so let's give them a round of applause as well and Gabby where's gabs come on up gabs while gab's on the way too I want to reiterate you know you stereotypes and things you hear about Martins well well look what we got going on tonight got uh an outstanding board meeting have kids doing well academically uh come on
up gavs you're gonna have to talk since you're in end a it come on yep you got Talk part of the deal uh we got dancers we got brains we got smarts uh I might reiterate the basketball team beat blomington South in the sectional which that's always uh you know blomington South so a lot of great things going on at Martinsville High School we're proud come on Gabby tell us a little bit about state finals you've been up there four years were you nervous tell us how you felt tell us about your career um I was very nervous but um I knew I had been there I knew knew the equipment and I knew that um I had trained really hard for that moment so um what what's your best what's your specialty EV Vault
um I made it to state for Vault for two years in a row and that was the only thing I had made it for and then my senior year so this past year I actually qualified for all four events and I finished my best event was probably Vault again but overall I think my best scoring event is be congratulations that's quite that's quite an accomplishment four straight years State finalist and in conclusion like I want to reiterate all the great things going on and I'll tell you something else to share with the board we've cre done I've done it before and we started again last week and we just remembered earlier in the year but uh we're going to do what we call Champions walk from now on at certain times through the year for
Not Just Sports and things like that for for academics last Friday we had a great thing where we did the dance team we did Gabby um Noah and Noah some there m State PRS we did a little uh walk through the lunchroom at cafeteria did some cheering and some hooting and hollering walked around the building teachers had their kids come up high five at the classrooms and then we finished it off with the kids ringing the Arty Bell and uh we're going to keep calling that Champions walk we'll do it again tomorrow at about 12:20 and as I said feel free to stop by at 10 o'clock Tom morning for some fun at Martinsville High School thank you for having them here and for all your support of the schools here in Martinsville can I

then we had some things cleaning up the where we might have something missed somebody's at the end of the scale okay they ought to be able to go ahead and receive a increase and we just make sure that the verbage is on pay scale that states that so those are the adjustments we've made to be in compliance with the audit okay do I have a motion to approve the non-certified pay scale I move to approve the non-certified pay scale we have a motion to approve the non-certified pay scale I'll second it okay we have a motion and a second to approve the non-certified pay scale all those in favor of of approving the non-certified pay scale say I hi all oppose same sign motion carries the next item we're really excited about is an opportunity
to have tella health for our students um sometimes parents are contacted at at work to come in for a sick child at the clinic and they have to take off work come in get their child take them to a doctor get uh get care get prescriptions whatever it might be we've got a contract here with a nurse practitioner to do that tell a healthwise so parents will not have to leave work they can do it there over uh video and we have we'll have our staff trained to do whatever specific tests might be required so it will have an opportunity even if the parents not having their insurance cover it's a lot less for them for going to the do doctor so we're very excited about this to be able to help parents stay at

I'm an educator no Donald Trump no Donald Trump no Donald Trump Trump come the shouts of 5-year-olds from glassbrook Elementary in San Francisco last month this woke program was perpetrated for two years before public outcry shamed at the school to shut it down but the school still asserted it was mischaracterized this is Progressive education gone arai what used to be a good and justifiable evolution in American Education during the Industrial Age has become a wolf in sheep's clothing John Dewey was a major contributor of progressive education in the early 20th century he suggested there was more to education than memorizing traditional subjects like math science English History the Arts education should include learning by doing open discussions and evaluation it should also be interactive and interdisciplinary it was not intended to take the place of
the traditional American Education model this is where we get to the upper levels of Benjamin Bloom's taxonomy of Education in the 1950s now it's reasonable to gain knowledge before one can use it my Masters in Education included a minor in gifted Ed I gained knowledge about how we learn and that there is age appropriate learning that we as good Educators should govern I learned classroom management and regardless of a student's home life ability experiences or perceptions I had to enforce a type of Ten Commandments one of the most notable of my experiences was over hearing a student say I always feel safer in his class her feelings were not an accident and I treasure that genuine expression ideologies like critical race Theory and social emotional learning have been revealed as wolves turned loose on our
our children this is Progressive indoctrination and is a carbuncle that needs healing it's heinous when adults I'm sorry it's heinous when adults confuse children on their humanity and gender it's heinous when children are taught to hate and be disrespectful and to you students I would say don't curse a farmer with food in your mouth likewise respect good authority when good people are doing what they can to protect and provide a future for you yours is to learn and to become yours is to take our history the good we've learned and move it forwards march on thank you thank you Mr Pond that's all super and I will be brief thank you Jackie okay just a reminder as Mrs lip stated earlier spring break is next week and we hope that everybody has a great relaxing
uh spring break whether you're having a station like I am or if you're going on a trip hopefully you have an opportunity to re-energize recharge spend time with family friends and loved ones and uh we hope you have a safe one and see you back the following Monday we also have tomorrow we have our improv which is our Jazz choir which is an outstanding group that's going to be participating in the state competition and that's going to be at Franklin Central High School and that's at 7:30 p.m. so we wish them well wish them luck and uh it's all awesome to qualify for that so it is an outstanding group we also had today I wanted to make sure I gave a big shout out to Cody Miller uh who did a Convocation at Bell
Intermediate aad Academy today an unbelievable talk that he shared with the students there and the staff and uh I was originally going to stay for just a short period of time but once Cody started talking and once he got into his message I was like uh I'm not going anywhere I want to I want to hear this message I wanted to hear what he has to say and it was captivating for the kids um it was inspirational it was educational it it was a very very well done uh Speech now Cody if you don't know is married to one of our teachers Ally Miller used to be Ali DT and Ally is a teacher at Bell and Cody is an Olympic champion an Olympic gold medalist and he is uh in preparation uh to make
try to make the Olympics again this year what an outstanding story he had that he shared with the kids and uh I just want to give a big shout out to him publicly and to Bell for having him there so Mrs Lawson Miss Hammond for setting that up and I know Ally probably played a little bit of a part in that um I won't say any more there to get Cody in trouble or me in trouble but it was it was an outstanding uh convocation and thank you Mr Miller for sharing uh your thoughts with our student body and our staff I learned a lot from it I enjoyed it and uh appreciate appreciate it very very much Eclipse that's the last meeting we have we've talked about the eclipse almost every month since last
September and this is the last meeting we have before the eclipse actually takes place so the eclipse April 8 we tried to cancel it uh because of the headaches it's going to cause but we couldn't they wouldn't let us so just a reminder for the eth we are on e-learning asynchronous which means it's the old traditional e-learning where the lessons are put online the students do the work and they have a week to complete the work and turn it in that's how it counts it's asynchronous the ninth is synchronous e-learning that's where the students follow a schedule with their teachers online the teachers are on visually they are doing it synchronously with them with them that's the key that's what the synchronous part means for it so on the ninth we are synchronous e- learning
okay so that's confusing to people I wish the state would have came up with two different names instead of asynchronous and synchronous because we get confused on it and everybody does those are the definitions for it just want to make sure it's not cancelled it is going to be here it will impact our community but we hope that you're able to enjoy the experience I think if you wait around another 800 years you might be able to do it again that's all I have believe it or not thank you Mr bowan now do we have any board member comments this evening I think Jackie has Joe sorry I would just like to say one thing is again to thank Mr Bell and all those students from Martinsville High School it's excellent to see our academic
and our athletic performances and how we're being recognized across the state of Indiana and also what he said was just amazing to me just the behavior of the kids and how they represent Martinsville and the community as well as they did so that's the only comment I have so do we have a a motion to adjourn I'll make a motion we adjourn I have a motion to adjourn and I have a second all those in favor of AD Journey signify by saying I I I motion carry
