Mr. President, whenever you're ready. Yeah, we stand for our pledge of allegiance. 011due. The Indiana All-Stars, that's if you've been in our gym, those are the jerseys that hang on the gym wall. Kamara Booker Kamari Booker is an Indiana All-Star, so her jersey We've already ORDERED HER JERSEY. >> [applause] >> AND IF YOU HEARD COACH Mitchell saying junior All-Star, junior All-Star, that's because those kids are coming back next YEAR AND THEY'RE OKAY, ON TO BOYS BASKETBALL. Um Boys basketball has the We had several members invited to play on the county All-Star game, which is tonight, and our coaching staff was invited to coach the event. So, many of those players are there and then several others are in AAU. I don't think any of them are here. I want to say their names and a couple of just huge accomplishments. Um Coach Jeff T was named the county

coach of the year, WHICH IS AWESOME. AND ON OUR LIST AND THESE ARE OUR sectional champions. I would like to invite our head girls wrestling coach and Pike High School alumni, Leslie Morales. >> [applause] >> Good evening, Mr. President and members of the board and Dr. Young. So, today I have the great pleasure of introducing and recognizing a group of talented and dedicated young lady wrestlers. These individuals have

conquered many battles in the sport of wrestling and have exceeded my expectations far beyond what I imagined, especially with this only being the second year that the sport has been sanctioned by the IHSAA. I'm extremely proud of their hard work, their dedication, and their leadership as well. The sisterhood that they have cultivated within our team. First, I'd like to introduce Ms. Cynthia LaRose. She is A FIRST YEAR SO, MS. CYNTHIA LAROSE IS ACTUALLY A first year wrestler who showed fearlessness and eagerness to be great. She solidified her presence in the room by becoming a sectional champ and giving us a great match to watch. I wish you could have all watched that match. It was great. Um She showed great perseverance in that match and it literally that match showed what believing in yourselves looks

like because Ms. Cynthia actually started in the team like a month after we had actually begun the season, so she had a little bit of amount amount of time to train and have matches that qualified her for the sectionals. So, that was a great thing to watch for her. Second, I'd also like to introduce to you Alyssa Vega. >> [applause] >> ALYSSA IS A remarkable athlete and a student. Alyssa loves wrestling so much. We actually had an introduction for all the girls during our team and one of the things that Alyssa said for she does for fun is just wrestle. That's literally what she does. This season she has shown great sportsmanship. She has shown what true hard work looks like and also by earning herself a MIC championship, which is a statement of her

hard work. Third, I'd like to present to you Amira Puckett. >> [applause] >> SO, AMIRA PUCKETT IS AN amazing senior with a great future ahead. She had the pleasure We had the pleasure of witnessing what a great athlete she is in our room with consistent motivation to her teammates and having great grit. Also, again, being a first year wrestler, she was a runner-up at MIC and sectionals as well. So, great accomplishment for this young lady. Finally, I'd like to introduce Victoria Flores. SHE HAS ALSO SHOWN GREAT dedication and hunger. Every day she would come into the room, she just want to learn more and more and more and become better. She also pushes all her teammates to the limit. She has great amount of fuel to her, which actually fueled her to also win the

MIC championship. And then, if I may add, both Alyssa and Victoria are both wrestling partners, which shows you just how much they push each other and all these young ladies in the room. So, definitely appreciative of all these young ladies that are here and I'm really looking forward to this third year, what it looks like cuz all of them except for Amira returning next year. So. >> [applause] >> I do have one final one. She could not be here today, but also she was also a MIC champion, which was Coriana Edwards. >> [applause] >> All right, thank you guys. >> [applause] >> All right, thank you. Next up, we are going to talk boys wrestling and with us we have assistant coach Leland Hoya. >> [cheering] >> I'm a teacher at high school, so >>

[laughter] >> I had a lot of them as eighth graders, so. Good evening, Mr. President, members of the board and Dr. Young. I'd like to take a moment tonight to recognize our five wrestlers tonight. Although, most of them could not make it because they were very busy with club wrestling and many of them do work. Focus on our middle schoolers today. Quinton Richardson was an eighth grader, also a MIC champion. He's currently not here. Focusing on football. Our next one is here is Caden Zaleah. He is our middle school MIC champion. >> [applause] >> Caden is a multi-sport athlete, currently in soccer. >> [clears throat] >> He went undefeated his sixth grade year. So, VERY BIG HIGHLIGHT OUR NEXT FEW IS OUR HIGH SCHOOLERS. THREE OF THEM. Nathaniel Anderson, Ayomide Dada, and Michael Toomer could

not make it, but I do want to highlight their accomplishments. First one is Michael Toomer. He was a freshman, a MIC county champion, and also a regional qualifier as a freshman in a very difficult sectionals with top two teams in the entire state. Next one is Nathaniel Anderson at 165, another MIC champion. And our last one who could not make it is Ayomide Dada, who is also a MIC champion and a regional qualifier AS WELL. >> [applause] >> CADEN, WE'RE VERY MUCH LOOKING FORWARD TO HAVING YOU. He's a heck of a soccer player, too. Next up, swimming and diving. We have head coach Charles Grace. He's got a lot of student athletes to honor. He knows he's on a time limit, but this was a record-breaking season for our swim dive team. >> [cheering] [applause]

>> Good evening, Mr. President, members of the board and Dr. Young. It's another great day to be a Red Devil. Just a brief summary of the work we've done in the aquatic center this year. I'm going to get started with honoring our coaching staff. Pike High School coaching staff was honored to be named coach of the year for both men's and women's Marion County swimming and diving this year. I'M GOING TO KICK THINGS OFF WITH OUR LADIES this evening. So, honoring our ladies this evening, EMERSON ALLEN. >> [applause] >> LANEY GORNIC >> [applause] >> MAGGIE MANAHAN CHLOE TOWER >> [applause] >> KATIE WARNER ANGELINA MICHAEL >> [applause] >> THOSE NOT WITH US THIS EVENING, ALEAH BRIGGS LORI BOSLETT MADISON CRANE >> [applause] >> Kimali King AND ANNA VELASQUEZ FROM A THIRD PLACE FINISH AT County

and the sectional meet and runners-up at the MIC, we were blessed this year to take 10 girls to the state meet and nine girls earning all-MIC honors. Now, at the state meet, our girls 200 medley relay and 200 freestyle relays both placed in the top 16 of the state of Indiana earning second team all-state honors. >> [applause] >> ANGELINA MICHAEL'S 12TH PLACE finish in the 50 free was the first individual lady to score since Olivia DeRoussel in 2021. Also at the sectional meet, breaking a 37-year-old school record back from 1989. And also earned individually second TEAM ALL-STATE HONORS. THE GIRLS AS A WHOLE PLACED 22ND in the state, scoring the highest point total for Pike High School since 1999. >> [applause] >> OUR LADIES. >> [applause] >> ALL RIGHT, THIS EVENING I ALSO get the

honor of presenting both middle school boys and high school boys. So, I'll start with our middle schoolers. So, Lane Adams, come on up. AJ STRONG >> [applause] >> AND NOAH WINCO >> [applause] >> OUR FOURTH MIDDLE SCHOOL BOY WAS NOT able to be here this evening, Brody Cauffman. But this foursome of eighth graders broke five middle school team records in a runner-up finish at this year's MIC CHAMPIONSHIP MEET. WINNING SIX EVENTS OVER THE COURSE OF that meet, Lane Adams winning the 100 IM and the 100 back, also setting school records in THOSE INDIVIDUAL EVENTS. AJ SETTING RECORDS AND WINNING the MIC championship in the 200 free and re-breaking his breaststroke record from LAST YEAR. >> [applause] >> THE 400 FREESTYLE RELAY OF THAT quartet was MIC champions and also broke THE SCHOOL RECORD. AND THAT

SAME four group of four were MIC champions in the 200 medley relay, meaning that our middle school boys over the last 2 years have broken nine of 11 SWIMMING RECORDS. >> [applause] >> NOW, LET'S GET TO THE HIGH SCHOOL BOYS. Third place finish at County, runners-up at the MIC and sectional the boys team arguably had the best season in school history. So, Asher Allen, COME ON UP. >> [applause] >> MARCUS CHEESEBOROUGH >> [applause] >> SAM DURLACHER LIAM GARRITY ALEX WOZNIAK ISAIAH WINCO >> [applause] >> ROWAN DAISY >> [applause] >> THOSE UNABLE TO JOIN US THIS EVENING WERE Ryder Daisy Ryan Dorsey Brody Pearman AND COLTON POWELL. >> [applause] >> THIS GROUP OF BOYS HAD eight selected to the all-MIC team. 11 boys went to the state meet placing 13th overall, which is the highest school

finish or highest team finish in school history. >> [applause] >> Also scoring the most points in school history as well at that meet. In total, this group broke seven school records over the LAST 2 YEARS. THE BOYS 200 FREE RELAY OF SAM DURLACHER, Rowan Daisy, Liam Garrity and Isaiah Winco placed sixth onto the podium at the state meet. The highest relay finish IN SCHOOL HISTORY. >> [applause] >> THEY EARNED FIRST TEAM ALL-STATE honors in that and in that event alone the record coming into the year was 127, they're 125.2 right now. I'm I won't hear this until June, but it is up for all-American honors, which if they were to earn that award would be a top 100 time IN THE COUNTRY. >> [applause] >> THAT SAME GROUP OF FOUR PLACED ninth in the 400

free relay. Again, that record dropping from 316 to 309, spectacular swims. Isaiah Winco's 13th place finish in the 200 IM was the highest individual swim at the state meet for boys swimmers since 1994. >> [applause] >> And as I said before, it's a great day to be a Red Devil. >> [applause] >> Uh I don't cry very often. For those of you who know me, that's a joke. Uh I cried at more than one swim meet this year. That's how incredible it was, though. >> [applause] >> Thank you again for the opportunity. Congratulations again. We might we might say just before we dismiss to our parents who are sitting tonight um again it it it really it really it really showed the talent that that Pike has here in our even middle schools. And it

really it it really it really breaks our heart really especially as a board it really breaks our heart to see I think we got some some I just heard someone said a best record in the country. And it really breaks our heart to see the talent that we have at the middle school level and then everyone is reaching in to to to to to recruit our talent to other places versus coming to Pike for all 4 years. So, I would say to our parents again, please help us close the door on those you live in Pike and those who come and recruit our children to go elsewhere to play sports and and everything and compete, please help us. That means the world to us. Help us as we keep our talent in Pike to continue

to be a force for the years to come. Thank you all. >> [applause] >> It it it's it's it's a shame that that you see this technology. And then we got the number one and then trying to us. >> Going to take a few minutes. We want to take a few minutes just to transition. So, if you all would just quietly transition for us and we're going to continue on with our board meeting. Unless you plan on staying and joining us for the rest of our meeting tonight. I think that was a no. >> [laughter] >> Nice nice try Dr. Webster. Nice try. >> [laughter] >> Thank you Troy. All right, we are on to our action items for this evening. Good evening, Mr. President, members of the board, and Dr. Young. I request your approval of action item E, F, G, and H as presented. So moved. Second. Been been moved and seconded that we accept action items E, F, G, and H as presented. Are there any questions on action items E, F, G, or H? No question, we're on to vote. All in favor say I. I. Oppose. Thank you, Mrs. Gray. We're on to board member items, Dr. Moore. I have nothing this evening, Mr. President. All right, Mr. I'm sorry, Mrs. Wilson. Um couple of things. It's great to be back in in

the Central Elementary School and to see the records that have stood for so long and we had these guys just out outshined from years. Think 1989, maybe? I think that's that's a great testament to Pike and I like the fact that that uh Pastor Webster did say we need to keep our middle school and elementary schools in Pike and we need to do whatever it takes to talk to the parents to allow them to know that we have just as much of a experience and opportunity for the students even when they get into high school. And then secondly, I wanted to give a shout out to Jay Michael who was uh he's in the Pike Fire Department, he became a lieutenant. Um which is something rare. Good. He made it and I just wanted to

give him a give him a heads up for that. And then shout out to my husband because today is our anniversary and I'm here with you instead of with him. So. Duty calls, Mrs. Wilson. >> Thank you, Mrs. Wilson. Mr. Hooper. All right, so I just want to real quick say congratulations to all the athletes. Like I said, just hearing all of those accolades is so impressive. Congratulations to the parents, too. Kids don't get themselves to practice, get themselves that takes a all the work of the parents and just really do appreciate all the work that they clearly have put in on um just put in with their children. I guess leave it at that. Also, congratulations, you know, to have all of these accolades of coaches of the year. Obviously, we have the athletic

director of the year, also. Um when Dr. Webster is saying, you know, help us keep our kids in Pike, why in the world would you go anywhere else? I mean, we've got all of the of the years wrapping up. So, don't bother going anywhere else. And then finally, had the chance to go with some other board members to the um ISBA regional meeting this last week and one of the things they went through was a lot of the legislative um legislation that was passed this last year. Um which is a reminder as early voting is out there, please get out and vote. Remember, I know this is the primary. Sometimes our options are limited in the election in November because of what happens in the primary. It is important, get out and vote. And if

you're watching in the news at all, things that have been going on today, it is clear how under attack public schools are at the highest levels and please it it matters who you're voting for for state senators, for representatives, everybody that's downtown. It matters, please go out and vote and keep your school public schools in mind when you're doing so. Thank you, Mrs. Hooper. Mr. Anderson. Uh want to give another congratulations shout out to Ms. Neal on the work that she's done and also again to our our exceptional athletes. Again to their parents, I know it's not easy and it is not cheap. So, thanks again for those. Also to our anonymous donor who has come alongside of our exceptional learners, teachers that have shouldered the load for scholarships to bring in $10,000, that is

phenomenal. I know that they they did it anonymously, so they want to be low-key. So, I appreciate them for that. And also just want to share my sentiments. I had the opportunity to go down to San Antonio for the National School Board Association and I learned so much about uh board superintendent relationships that we we brought back and that's going to help us move forward in the future. >> Absolutely. Thanks again. Thank you, Mr. Anderson. Mrs. Barnes. Uh I'd like to congratulate the Pike chapter of Best Buddies. I was with them on Sunday at the Friendship Walk and the chapter won the spirit award for the second consecutive year. And if you check the website, they are third in fundraising in our area. So, congratulations to Pike Best Buddies. It was fun to be part

of their celebration at that event. I had the opportunity to represent our board at our district wellness council. Um so many wonderful things are happening. We're getting ready for our Red Devil Dash. So, board members, May 16th. May 16th. May 16th. Got you. Got [laughter] you. Um for us to participate with that. And one really interesting thing from that meeting that I just want to share here, we are going to start using a small device that it's a small MP4 player to have a walking classroom. And what it is is there are small short lessons loaded onto this just tiny little like a deck of cards size device. It's an MP3 player, so it's no Wi-Fi. It's just a little battery and headphones and it walks students through lessons that they can use during recess.

So, for those who are just really not wanting to participate in team sports or whatever during recess, they can choose to listen to podcasts that are about lessons in a variety of topics. And so, that's something that'll be starting in our elementary schools. So, that was exciting to learn about that. It's called the walking classroom. That's all I have. Thank you, Mrs. Barnes. Mrs. Kelly. Good evening. I am going to take my opportunity. The board wants This is Administrative Professionals Week. And as you all know, we have one of the most outstanding administrative professionals that supports our superintendent, the board, and many of us sitting here. So, we want to take this opportunity to recognize Mrs. Pettiford for all her hard work and diligence with the board. We have a small token to give her

from us to you. Dr. Young. Thank you, Mr. President. I would also like to congratulate our student athletes, coaches, administrators, parents for an outstanding winter season. Just couldn't be more proud of those athletes. I also want to give a shout-out to the teacher leaders that completed the Leadership Academy this year, and those aspiring administrators completed a um group of of proficiencies. They attended multiple meetings throughout the year. They engaged in activities, all with the um goal of really sharpening their their administrative skills. So, congratulations to those. All right. Well, that is it. We'd like to entertain a motion to adjourn. So moved, Mr. President. >> one thing? I'm sorry. >> is on the floor. >> is on The motion >> want me to say it. The [clears throat] motion is on the floor. Come on.

I need to say this. The motion is on the floor. We we we You don't want me to say it. Let me re Yeah, don't say it. >> Let me re re re can't the motion and and Mrs. Mrs. Wilson. >> You guys know I'm new, right? So, I'm going to hold on to that as long as I can. But, I I wanted to say this because I know it's anonymous, and in my corporate world, when I worked, they always used to say it's better to ask for forgiveness than permission. So, I'm not going to ask for permission, but I'm going to tell you that when this young man found out that exceptional learners were given out a scholarship, and they were thought that they weren't getting the money that he thought they should have,

he called on upon his friends and co-workers or whoever he did, and came up WITH THAT $10,500. THANK [applause] YOU, MRS. WILSON. SORRY. The motion is in order. So moved, President. Second. Meeting adjourned. I don't care. All right.
