Good. Good. All right. We welcome everybody here today to our school board meeting. We'll start out with the pledge of allegiance followed by a prayer. I alian to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. Our Father in heaven, we're grateful for the opportunity we have to be here. We're grateful for the beautiful weather which we have enjoyed today. And we're grateful for this opportunity which we have to be here in this community. We're grateful for this community, the friendships and the people that are surround us. We're grateful for this country and for the freedoms that we enjoy and for the opportunities that we have because of that. We ask that you please bless this meeting
that we will be able to discuss and decide and do those things that are pleasing unto thee. Please bless those that may be needing thy help or assistance either sick or otherwise afflicted that they may receive it. We ask thee to please bless us that we may recognize those needs. We uh leave this meeting in your hands and we say this name of Jesus Christ. Amen. All right. Uh, future board meetings. Um, April 22nd, May 27th, and June 10th, all six o'clock here this administration building. There are a couple items revision to the agenda under HR donations. Move on to public recognition. got a recommendation to approve a $2,850 donation from Wash Elks Lodge 471 from Bingo Charity Game for Southwood High School Arrive Alive Tour. We have a recommendation to approve $750 from Metal
Source LLC for Northfield Softball and a recommendation to approve $100 from Larry Vaughn for Southwood Junior High School choir. I get a motion and second to approve these donations. So second got a motion and second to approve all these donations. All those in favor say I. I. Any opposed? And as always, we're grateful for all those donations that come into our schools that go to help a bunch of these programs. School recognition. Yep. Uh first of all, I just like to um share Mrs. Lewis at Southwood. Congratulations to Southwood's agriculture teacher, Tim Callaway, who has been awarded the 2025 National FFA Lily Grant for Indiana Agricultural Education. This grant is the amount of $8,900 goes toward classroom enhancement to upgrade equipment and purchase new equipment. So, that's really awesome uh that he applied for that
and also received that Willie grant. Also, this hasn't been mentioned by um the other principles and I'm sure they'll do this later, but this past weekend we did have five teams that went to the state competition of robotics that was changed from Lucas Oil that they've done for several years and now they're going to the fairgrounds. Um and they had it in a couple different buildings because of the spaces and things like that. Uh so we had three um elementary robotics teams from Sharp Creek and we had one junior high and one high school from Northfield. And one team um has qualified to go to Worlds um again this year which will be in Dallas, Texas. So we want to congratulate them. Uh you'll hear more about that later because I think we're going to
do a media um news uh release later on because there's just a lot of awesome things that go along with that. And one thing that's different from when we started robotics, um there were a lot of teams that actually qualified, but because Indiana has a lot of teams, um they were they reduced the number that actually go to state, so it's a lot more competitive than what it used to be and there are less um that are allowed to go to world. So that makes a lot more competitive. It's really awesome. I believe the stat was that um in northern Indiana there was only one um public school um that made it to state or to to worlds and that was Sharp Creek Elementary. So that's pretty awesome. So you'll get that information later. Um
but kind of want to share tonight too because it'll be quite a while until we have the next board meeting. All right, that's all I have. You have public comment agenda items only. All right, we'll move on to approval of minutes. Our last regular meeting, March 11th. Get a motion and second to approve those minutes. Got a motion and second to approve our minutes there for March 11th. All those in favor say I. Any oppose? All right. Claims and payroll number 17 questions on either of those you have any changes on that you probably saw the headum cost that annual cost mainly to our whites and bridge students. We do have some students that are high schools that participate in credit recovery. Question on claims. We get a motion second to approve claims and payroll
00717. Second. Got a motion second to approve claims in payroll number 17. All those in favor say I. I. Any opposed? Financial summary. Yeah. So, um just laid out the cash flow for education and operations fund. Uh not much is different than what we talked about um last month. Uh one thing to note uh on there uh with the education fund is the the state requires us to provide an estimated ADM count. Uh that was due by the end of this month. And so um I put in uh 2070 as our estimated number in relation to ADM. Uh that would be the potential for the September count. And obviously if it's more than that we will gain money. If it's less than that we would uh lose some money. But in July, they start paying
us based off of that estimated count for that that six months and then make the adjustment on whatever the actual October account count ends up being. Um, so that's not really figured in the actual cost amounts of revenue yet just because we don't know what legislation is doing with that. Uh but that estimated amount is pretty status quo to what we were previously getting um with our ADM count last fall. So the 270 is or the dollar amount, the actual revenue amount. Once we know what legislation does budgetwise, then I can better figure out what that 270 number will look like at that point in time. And then we'll start kind of building our budget based off of off of that. So So you just go by what seniors are being graduated and maybe what
year olds coming up. Yeah, I have I have a little formula that I have connected that kind of goes through historically what our changes have been and I've tried to factor that number into that with that percentage and come up with that to hopefully I'd rather shoot a little bit short than be way too high and not have that money when it came down to the 80 count. So, And then nothing to really share about operations. I think not much has changed from what we talked about last month. All right. And now we need to um now we need to open up a hearing on superintendent employment contract. There's any things to talk about on that? Uh the only thing I can say about it is that we u by law we have to have
a a public hearing related to superintendent contract. That information was posted uh in the Indiana Plane dealer on March 12th. Uh and then it was also advertised on our website as well um for anybody to observe and then come and make any type of comment during the public hearing. It was posted in entirety all language and everything on the website. Otherwise, we would have spent like $2,000. summary, but the ad has a summary of the points and the the can read it all on their website. Yeah, it's determined by statute what has to be. Do we have any comments or questions on that? Had a chance to look over all that. We don't we'll close that close that hearing. Thank you. This last time well technical. You read them anyway. So I'll read it. Listen
carefully. Yeah, listen carefully. You have questions. I will not guarantee the pronunciation of these names. We have our HR report. Resignation. Lauren Deck, par professional at Northfield High School effective 327. Silva as a teacher at South High School. Uh that's beginning I guess end of 20.5 right the end of this school year end of this under employment. Uh Amy Pal professional and subbus driver for North High School effective 47. Deborah Shinkle long-term sub at Sharp Creek Elementary effective 47 until the end of the school year. Tom Gary, volunteer junior high track coach, effective immediately. John Higgins, volunteer assistant baseball coach for Northville High School, effective immediately. Dr. Chris superintendent um for our school district, effective July 1st, 2025. Mattie Culver, volunteer software ball coach, Southfield Northfield High School, effective immediately. Scott Grineer, Clay Target coach
for Southwood and Northfields, effective immediately. under retirement. Joe Glasco, Northville High School, end of the school year. And under leave, uh number 189, uh leave will begin August 11th, 2025 through June 1st, 2026. I get a motion and second to approve our HR report. Second. Got a motion and second to approve our HR part. All those in favor say I. Any oppose. All right. Motion passes. We'll say a couple things. All right. First of all, um for Joe Glass or we're done. Um, no, no. Uh, Jill Glasco, first of all, I just want to thank her. Um, she's, uh, been a great team member. Um, I know a nice principal there, too. Great teacher. Um, and I know, uh, she's looking forward to retirement, but also just, uh, know that we'll miss her. Uh, and
she will she will be greatly missed. And so, we thank her for all of her dedicated service over the past several years. So, great person, great teacher, and we thank her for all that she's done. And also, I just like to I'm not leaving right now, but uh Dr. I just want to congratulate him. Um I think it's a great choice that the board made. Um I appreciate all the things you've done to get to this point and uh he'll do a great job and been very very fortunate to be able to work with him for the last nine years. Um it's been very very good. So congratulations Dr. C. Yeah, I will agree just Mrs. glass cop. She was there when we were there. That's a long time. Both my kids are all my
kids. She's just going to be one that hard to replace. So, and definitely Chris family. Thanks for loaning him for the next however many years. Long time. Yep. It'll take some time away from home. Yeah, exactly. Yeah, he's got a long time with us. He's young. We hope. All right. Um, guess we'll move on. Heartland Roof Center. Yeah, I sent you guys a for an email to you. Had a update on the road. It's going well. I think they've had some pretty good weather, which helps. Um, on their calendar, April 10th, they will have a ASBA, which is a military test available to the students. Um they'll have a career fair April 16th in the school during school and then they'll have an open house 6:00 to 7:30 the same day after April 16th. Then
on April 21st at 6 p.m. at the First United Methodist, they'll have the National Technical Honor Society. They'll have 32 seniors and 28 juniors, which is pretty good. Uh Mr. and Mrs. Donald How donated a 2002 Dodge Durango for them to fix and they think that will probably be one of the they'll give away. Yeah. This year they got a Pontiac I think 2005 Pontiac buy. One of the local people in Wabash had that and I guess it's a mint condition. Uh on personnel, Dave Brace has been there for 43 years teaching graphic design and he's going to retire. So um they had competitions cosmetology cosmetology skills USA will send seven students the Indiana State Fairgrounds in April 11th and 12th. Culinary arts will send two students and networking cyber security Vicky Hulahan teaches u
they'll send eight students to the national to business professionals of America in Orlando Florida in May. So that's what they're doing over there. Good. Excellent. Thanks Matt. Right. Just a couple of things. Um, you know, legislation continues and we talked about this before the board meeting a little bit. Dr. C and I were talking about it and of course the um it will end I think it's April 29th. So we're just about a month away so we'll know a lot more but there's a lot of things that are talking about. Of course the budget is the big one. The property taxes, school grades are also on there too. Um that's going to be legislated that we'll have to bring that back in. So that that makes some changes. Think uh will change some things again
for us at all schools. And so we're just going to keep an eye on it and continue to talk to our legislators about some of the things that we would like to see happen if um they have other thoughts. And so the forecast comes out like the middle of April, I believe. And so that will give us a little better idea of what the budget will actually look like. So we'll continue to watch that. And the last thing uh we have another update on the video here. I just want to show you that um with uh the project. So since they do this is a little about a minute and 4 seconds. So launch here. They don't have an over overlay like they've done before, but get some more of the foundation completed and more
of the walls. At least four. Look at this tennis courts too. I think the tennis team is going to enjoy those. Would be nice. That's what I like. Are you doing say you're doing productivity? Yes, I am. And to pull that up. So, there's two things on here. First of all, the K through5, we appreciate those people or the one person that actually took the time, we appreciate that, going over, uh, the curriculum that had been sent out there. And so, uh, they spent a lot of time going over it and they have decided for grades K, I'm sorry, for grades three through five, they're going to go with wonders. Um, and so that's very, very good. And then for K through 12, they did not feel like they had a viable option for their
instructional needs. So they're going to continue uh with the Heggertity, which they've been doing, which they've been using. And so they're going to look maybe next year to see what that would look like and see if there's um some other curriculums out there. And so Wonders is the one uh that, like I said, for three through five and K through two is not choosing anything new. Um they're going to continue with what they have. And so I'm going to ask after I get done with this that you approve that. Um Mr. Drake was would like that to be approved. And then preliminary I read results are very favorable, but we do know um there's a lot of time you take the test. So in second grade, you can see that on the first bullet point.
Second graders that did not pass will have another opportunity to retest before entering third grade. Some of them might take it at the end of the school year because there's a window at the very end. Um I think it's after May 12th I believe uh which is not too many more days left after that. And then also some of them if they don't take it then they'll they may go to summer school and then they will retest at the conclusion of summer school. Now they do not have to be retained because it's really a third grade test but then for third graders they actually have three opportunities to test as third graders. Not um this is going to be the first year they have to do second grade. So in reality they have five times
they can take the test. But for third graders that do not test or do not pass, then they will test again at the end of the school year. And if they do not uh pass, then uh they'll be going to summer school. Um and then they will have an opportunity to take the test one more time at the end of uh summer school. If they do not pass at that point or do not have a um good cause exemption, uh then they will have to be retained in third grade. So that's new state Indiana code. So, but the results right now have been very favorable for the very first time taking the test and so we hope that continues with the second and possible third time that some students will take the test. So, that's
it for for your information. Um, once we have that, we won't have that information until the final results until July um because they'll take it the end of June. Um and so knowing we won't know those percentages to know what they are until you know as far as the the total third grade class. So anyway that's what he wanted me to share. And so I will ask though that you will approve um ask that you approve the uh adoption of wonders for grades three through five. Okay. We have motion and second to approve wonders for grades K through three through no just three through five. Three through five. Yes. So second got a motion second to approve wonders for grades three through five. All those in favor say I. I. Any oppose? Was that the
one you picked? Yes. He has a lot of influence on our team. So, just wanted to make sure we were still alive. I saw the nod earlier, so I I signed it. All right. Um, move on to new business. We need got a recommendation to approve a new the new elementary grades 3 through five name as Northfield Elementary starting uh beginning of school year 2026 2027 and let me just share a little bit of that. um even though that's another a whole another year away. Um the reason for that is uh for different reasons like their apparel and things like that. Do they buy Sharp Creek um clothes and different things like that for one year if they're going to move on? So they'd like to know for sure officially what that is. And so
we talked about a little bit in our cabinet meeting. Felt like it was um good thing. You know, we do have Southwood Junior Senior High School and Southwood Elementary. And so North Junior Senior High, Northfield Elementary, it makes a lot of sense to do it that way. So we also have signage requests as far as Yeah. signs for the building that need to be decided on. Should get done earlier than later. So there's nothing we have to do yet with the DOE. The new superintendent will take care of that next year. Uh because they'll have to do some there's some paperwork and job forms have to complete to make that happen. But make sure that happens. All right, we get a motion and second to approve that new name. So moved. Second. A motion and
second to approve our new elementary school to be named as Northfield Elementary beginning of school year 2627. All in favor say I. Any oppose? All right. And we got a recommendation to approve an overnight extended field trip for Southwood seniors to go to Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, April 13 through 16, 2025. A motion second to approve that field trip. Motion second to approve this field trip for Southwest Seniors to Gatlinburg. All those in favor say I. Any opposed? All right. Motion passes. Any unfinished business? Any board policy? Comment. All right. Any items for board members? Question. I see Chris got some some kind of award award. Yes, I want to congratulate him and I guess the chair walked. Tell us about it. So, I was awarded the school business official of the year for our
region which is region five which consists of I think 11 or 12 counties all the way from Rosville to Anderson area. So, I guess I was just recognized by my peers. Congratulations. Yep. Thank you. Appreciate it. Now he's fired. we go through all that work. Well, we we do appreciate your work, Chris, and obviously that's why that's why we you have the respect of us and I think of your community to be able to take on this next task. I appreciate the opportunity and the support everybody's provided me through I've been fortunate to be in many positions with this district to grow as a leader and a person and so I wouldn't be where I am today if it wasn't for the support of the community and people like you as part of part of
so I appreciate that. Thank you. All right. Anything else? You got over on this. It's 628 and it's at 627. [Laughter] All right. All right. 627. And only the fix.
